Tuesday Part 2

Hi Folks,  We are all waiting with baited breath to see how this nesting season is going to work out.  I recently contacted the Regional Bald Eagle Coordinator for FWS, Craig Koppie,  and he sent me this message a few minutes ago:

"There could be several reasons for this issue. There could be a replacement nest they constructed during the fall and they are visiting less frequently at their usual location as you suggested. There might be a mate replacement so they are starting later due to a new pairing. Or lastly, they are the same pair and just sense a colder than normal year and are holding off a few weeks or so because of icing on the river and greater snow fall potential. I believe somehow, nature knows."

We know that these are the same two birds, so we need to figure this year's delay is caused by  a new nest or the cold weather.

I am betting that the cold weather is impacting timing this year.  This is the coldest stretch of weather in many years.  Combine the weather with the snow and the iced up river and that's enough to delay things...

So time will tell which theory is correct.

Craig just released a cool book with Teena Gorrow called Inside a Bald Eagle's Nest.  Check it out here.

Well, I'll add my experience. Can get the live "picture" and hear the wind but the "picture" is frozen. So is still cam.

Maybe by morning all will be working and we will wake to find eggs being tended - she says optimistically.

Mema Jo said...

Judie on the live feed - hit F5
At times the refresh once it runs out of time will start it up again.
Check out the timer to see if it has stopped.

Hubby and I are heading out for an early dinner. Earlier today two of our daughters came by for a visit.

Checked on the local nest here at the beach...they are incubating!

Got the cam back...in the NHZ??? Not in view

Pretty sure I'm seeing an occasional snowflake flying on the live feed. BTW, my live feed has been running now for 2 1/2 hours without having to refresh it - knock on wood!

Nest is MT again. What is UP with these eagles??

paula eagleholic said...

Finally got a new debit card: re- the Target fiasco!

NatureNut said...

Good Afternoon Eaglebuds. Got done doing some stuff, went to drug store, and now I see NO ONE in the nest. I sure think I see the nest bowl now that it's not so sunny. Looks like just below 12 o'clock! Right? Then we should be able to see 1/2 a bird when sitting there.
Jo, LUV your new avatar. Best cardinal pic I've seen!
Paula, glad you've been on and have some home birds incubating. How is Larry doing? All our thoughts and prayers. Plz tell him he WILL be OK!!!!
My newest theory about the Park nest where I work is that Mom could be IN the nest incubating also and we just can't see her head. That pair did build up the top of the nest on the front, street side where we view it.

NatureNut said...

P.S. Forgot to mention I've seen a few random snowflakes too on Live MT nest! And it's still running, but no sound right now.

paula eagleholic said...

I see those couple of wayward flakes, too. Just got the cam back up

paula eagleholic said...

Thanks, Lowreeda! I keep telling him to have faith that the treatment will be successful. He has good days and not so good days. He has to get off the Aleve...and Tylenol just isn't doing as good a job on the pain.

Lolly said...

Still can not get the cam. Watching on my ipad. Nest is empty and it looks like snow coming down.

Lolly said...

Oh, Paula, so very sorry he is having pain. Not good! Yes, keep positive thoughts!

This afternoon I decided to clean the dining carpeting
The area rug placed over the carpeting in the dining area was getting worn, and the carpet needed shampooing,so I removed it to find I have part of the pattern on the carpet. Mom didn't have the carpet cleaners remove the area rug last time she had it cleaned. Guess I'll be getting a new area rug real soon.
Hope I can get the cam up before dark

I have returned from Cracker Barrel's dinner with hubby and Michael.
I'll be watching Downton Abbey also ♥
Last week's episode opened lots of new drama.

I have the MT nest in view. I though am hoping for an egg before early Monday morning. Mainly because the weather's forecast is decent and we have to get this bobble head season underway. Remember that BWE is expecting hatching as early as the 17th.

Mema Jo said...

Hello Paula. I saw your eagle in the tree down at your Paradise - beautiful ♥
Please remind me again as to what day of this week does Larry have some dr visits. Sending him prayers for successful healing.

Good evening,

Snowflakes flying across the screen at the nest.

Need to catch up. I have been out with Kathryn and friends today.

stronghunter said...

Got to see Heidi and her new baby for the first time. Heidi is the young woman I've mentioned before. She's one of five children who grew up next door when my children were growing up.

Heidi and Jay went to the Dominican Republic for a year. When they returned, they married in September of 2012 and Heidi resumed her teaching job here. She had a baby in December. She came home with the baby on Christmas eve after having a C-section.

On that day, Jay told her that he was leaving her for another woman. She kept things pretty much to herself except for the friends who rescued her at that time.

It just takes my breath away. Heidi is almost like another daughter to me.

Heidi joined us and our other friends for church and dinner today. It was so nice to see her and meet her baby boy.

I am sure she will appreciate Momster prayers. We've known her and her siblings since they were small children. She's a leukemia survivor, and a tough young woman, but she really needs some extra love right now.

Thank you.

stronghunter said...

Jo, you just reminded me that I have a couple of Cracker Barrel gift cards. Need to use them.

Lolly said...

Oh, Shirley, that makes me so angry!! On the day she came home with the baby???? That is wild!!!

Lolly said...

Omg!! I just got the cam on my laptop. What oh what is the problem?

Lolly said...

I have tried all afternoon to get it, so why now? Whoops! Just got the twirly thingy!

stronghunter said...

On the day she came home with the baby--Christmas Eve.

stronghunter said...

Kathryn and Susan noticed from her Facebook posts that something was wrong.

Lolly said...

That makes me sick, Shirley! He obviously was not worthy of her. God bless her! He does not deserve the baby nor her. OMG! What a cad!!!!

magpie said...

My prayers are IN, Shirley....
so sorry for this sad situation for Heidi...if she has YOU and YOUR family for friendship, love and support, well, she has many blessings with which to go forward....may good things, eventually, come of this.
Glad you got to meet up with her AND the baby :)

DanaMo said...

Internet explorer won't open the cam. I had to open it on Chrome.

Mema Jo said...

Hope I don't jinx myself but my live feed has been running 1:10:48 - like Judy commented the other evening: The black spinning arrow doesn't happen at night... Probably due to fewer viewers.

I am just now reading your comments about Heidi, Shirley. I remember the pic you posted of her visit with you.
All I can say, which is no consolation at this time, begone you
hollow man - begone. Heidi is worth a lot more and deserves much much more then the worthless person you are.
Pryers for Heidi's broken heart and for her to forge ahead with her and her son's life. ♥

stronghunter said...

"Hollow man"--yes. I did not know him well. And I do not want to.

stronghunter said...

Yes, I had a picture of Heidi and Jay with Kathryn, Susan, Hunter, and me on my Facebook for awhile, Jo. It was their wedding we'd just returned from when our neighbor's house burned. I posted several pictures of their wedding reception, as I recall.

Good evening all.

SANDI: so glad you have taken the steps to get your mom comfort and help at this time. Bless you … this is a difficult step to make.

AND SO VERY glad the pups were adopted!
It has been a good weekend. I need to figure out how to move that video of Olivia to my blog so you call can see it. She skated very well yesterday and got a blue ribbon.  She was the only one in her division, but they judged her against the “book”.
It was fun seeing her interact with some of the other girls: finally!
Chelsea, her older sister stood there with tears streaming down her face while watching Olivia. Chelsea is not prone to outbursts of emotion. Although they are sisters, I think Chelsea has more of a motherly love for Olivia, which is pretty neat.
Spent yesterday catching up on house work. I dyed Olivia’s hair tips robin egg blue. She loves it.
Tom and I went and had a night out. Then I slept in til 11:30 this morning. I had not slept in in 2 weeks. Felt great.
Weather was superb today…50’s and sunny. I had windows open and touched up the house a bit. Grilled out this afternoon.
Hope everyone has had a good weekend. I skimmed over everying.

LORI: rock and roll girl. On to another week! I know you’ll be up early.
((((hugs)))) to all. Good night and SED

Enjoy your skiing, Hoda. Susan has taken up skiing this winter. I think she is really enjoying it, but so far she's been plagued with accidents. This time it was an ugly bruise from her ski pole on her hand.

No snow on the nest that I can see.

Hope it stays that way, as we're predicted to get a bit of snow on Monday night.

SHIRLEY, an absolutely horrible and heartbreaking story about Heidi. Really don't like her scoundrel husband - soon to be ex. LOLLY is right - he doesn't deserve her or the baby! PRAYERS for Heidi.

I keep checking throughout the day hoping to get a notice that there's an egg. Maybe today.

We're expecting another 5" of snow tonight, but we usually get another inch or so on top of what is forecast. It'll be a yucky drive to school tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a great day. Light, love, hugs, and smiles, as we zoom towards the 1000 posts mark…..

Sandi said...

Goodorming my eagle friends. Nest is sunshiny but MT and I am disappointed about that. I'm sure our eagles know what they're doing but ...

Yesterday was a pretty good day for Mom. Her neighbors (a couple in their 30s) have no kids but have a dog named Zoey who is their child. They stopped by for about an hour - brought Mom a card, flowers, and M&Ms with Zoey's picture on them as a Valentine's Day gift. They didn't bring Zoey b/c of our dogs but Zoey comes to visit Mom EVERY day to get treats and love - and she gives back a lot of love as well. She's one of those dogs who is able to actually smile and she smiles when she sees Mom. Mom can be sitting on the sofa reading and will look up and there is Zoey on the front porch with her face pressed against the glass of the french doors and her smile. Mom opens the door and in comes Zoey with either Carolyn or Tony.

Lisa and Madeline came over in the evening (Mitch and Michael are in NC for an ice hockey tournament this weekend) and we got Chinese carryout for dinner, then had cupcakes and ice cream to celebrate Madeline's 12th birthday, which is today.

This morning will be busy - packing up the car, getting Mom up and dressed, and then driving to the ice rink to see Madeline's free skate and interpretive events. We'll take the dogs and leave them in the car, then leave Mom at the rink with Lisa and Madeline and hit the road for home.

Denny heard from a coordinator at Gilchrist yesterday and a nurse is supposed to contact him today about setting up a home visit with Mom to discuss how they can help.

Paula, I'm sorry to hear that Larry is in pain - is that what sent him to the doctor in the first place? How long did he have the pain before he mentioned it? I am sending prayers and positive energy his way that this Friday's surgery goes well.

Janet, anxious to see Olivia's video. I cried last year when I saw Madeline compete for the first time and she landed her sit-spin so I know the feeling!

Lori, hope you have a productive day today and don't get too much snow tonight.

OK, gotta eat, then get moving. Will try to check in on my phone as we drive back. If not, you'll hear from me when we get back to Bethany this afternoon/evening.

Have a great day.

Shep is messing with the egg cup

I think she's still finding little scraps of fish to munch on.

Hate to do this but I need to leave for a few hours.
Hoping that they stay at the nest longer..

Eagle in the nest.

I see just one of them at the moment, but I was away briefly, and I am not sure which one I'm seeing, as it's only 1/2 eagle. Sitting on the egg cup, though. Maybe Belle.

Need to get some chores done, and animals think it is feeding time. Funny how they get their idea even though it really is not 5:00 yet.

AZPatti said...

Belle, I believe, in the nest cup.

Hello all! Been busy but am in lurk mode when I can. I seem to be able to get the cam at home but the twirly arrow seems to haunt me at work. Prayers for all in need; Sandi's mom, Paula's Larry, Dana's dad and others I'm sure I'm missing.

stronghunter said...

Hi Patti!

Yes, I agree. And it is a good sign.

stronghunter said...

Going to have to leave for a bit. Difficult to operate the mouse with a hungry cat sitting on it.

AZPatti said...

Hi Shirley! Sure hoping she's decided it's time!

AZPatti said...

I certainly understand that, Shirley!

AZPatti said...

Holiday for me today so I decided to do taxes while watching the royal nest.

paula eagleholic said...

Watching here too...see Belle in the cup.

AZPatti said...

Nest reporting duties for me, I see. Belle still sitting in the egg cup. Facing 9.

AZPatti said...

Looking around, placing flugg.

paula eagleholic said...

Hi Patti...and Shirley if you're still here.

She's giving the cup a test drive....tucking in flugg

AZPatti said...

Hi, Paula!

paula eagleholic said...

Oh I can hear the wind. Listen for her chirps...we know she chirps when she lays an egg!

AZPatti said...

I'll be listening!

AZPatti said...

Dang that twirly arrow!

paula eagleholic said...

First sound I've heard all year!

paula eagleholic said...

Knock on wood...no twirlies here today...of course, I'm at work. Decent internet here!

AZPatti said...

Wind sounds horrible! Sometimes, it sounds like a lion roaring and other times like a revving engine.

AZPatti said...

Belle still looking relaxed.

AZPatti said...

She's up, moving sticks around.

AZPatti said...

Digging in the cup.

AZPatti said...

Settling back down.

AZPatti said...

Settled in again, tucking flugg and trying to move sticks out of the way.

paula eagleholic said...

Tucking it in.

paula eagleholic said...

I think more flugg is called for ☺

AZPatti said...

Up again. In the IEZ.

AZPatti said...

Poof!

AZPatti said...

Nope, someone still in IEZ. Looked away, maybe Shep came in and poofed.

AZPatti said...

All I see are talons.

AZPatti said...

Going over the split!
