Tuesday Part 2

Hi Folks,  We are all waiting with baited breath to see how this nesting season is going to work out.  I recently contacted the Regional Bald Eagle Coordinator for FWS, Craig Koppie,  and he sent me this message a few minutes ago:

"There could be several reasons for this issue. There could be a replacement nest they constructed during the fall and they are visiting less frequently at their usual location as you suggested. There might be a mate replacement so they are starting later due to a new pairing. Or lastly, they are the same pair and just sense a colder than normal year and are holding off a few weeks or so because of icing on the river and greater snow fall potential. I believe somehow, nature knows."

We know that these are the same two birds, so we need to figure this year's delay is caused by  a new nest or the cold weather.

I am betting that the cold weather is impacting timing this year.  This is the coldest stretch of weather in many years.  Combine the weather with the snow and the iced up river and that's enough to delay things...

So time will tell which theory is correct.

Craig just released a cool book with Teena Gorrow called Inside a Bald Eagle's Nest.  Check it out here.

Shep's shadow can be seen above Belle's spot. Oops, and he POOFED.

Kay said...

Thanks for the JO relay, HODA ! I hope it doesn't take long for her to rejoin us.

stronghunter said...

Hoping Jo gets everything straightened out.

DanaMo said...

Just checking in. I can't believe how much snow melted in the nest. WOW. Will we have an egg soon?

DanaMo said...

It would be nice to have a Valentine's egg! ;)

Mema Jo said...

I am hoping that I can sign back in here

Hoda said...

Yay!
Here is MEMA JO!

I hope so too JO

POST AGAIN PLEASE

Kay said...

Belle picked around at the egg cup a little, then turned around and is sitting on it.

magpie said...

Well I see feeties and I have live feed with sound

Hello!

Kay said...

Hi JO, eureka, huh ?

Belle is calling out for her guy !

magpie said...

but I don't know what kind of feeties these are....
I don't see much white

just signing on, must have missed something

heard the eagle calling

Kay said...

Wanting dinner delivery perhaps ?

Kay said...

Shep heeds the call.

magpie said...

now I get it, I am seeing the front end of this eagle

whew

magpie said...

Oh gracious!
What a sight !
Two glorious eagles

Kay said...

Hi MARGY ! Did you get the tests out of the way and do you now have your cherished Blazer back ?

Lolly said...

Just cam back and see the tail of an eagle!

Jo, come on baaaaack!!!

Lolly said...

Ohhh, my Valentine just invited me to sit outside with a glass of wine. Yes, it is that nice! Headed out! Can not turn that down!

Kay said...

Shep POOFED again, but Belle is holding her ground.

Kay said...

Shep arrives with big twig, busy guy !

Kay said...

Belle moves out of his way rather than getting hit by the twig. She's fooling with flugg up in the egg cup region and he seems satisfied with the latest addition to the crib rail.

magpie said...

wowser, I had about 11 minutes of live feed, heard MY first eagle chirping too, and saw the stick hassling..

o boy

Yes, what a snoe-melting kind of a day

DanaMo and Lori, excuse me, I had your two fathers switched, I thought (and posted I think)
that it was Lori's Dad going on the cruise...

Kay said...

Belle moved up an out of sight, but you can tell she's moving a limb around at the 11 spot or so.

magpie said...

new word
snoe
sorry

Yes, Kay, tests are good, everything on schedule for next Friday,
and Yes, traded the Spaceship back for my ol' Blazer
It was fun while it lasted, all in all

xo

Kay said...

Hmmm, MARGY, maybe you're psychic. It would be grand if LORI's parents could go on a cruise, too. ☺

magpie said...

Happy 10th
Anniversary to Jenny and her husband, Jo xoxo

magpie said...

Sharon for T-Bird:
I am sorry for the loss on the death of her Aunt....((HUGS)) - please deliver, and xo's

Kay said...

MARGY, there's a comfort zone one has with a tried and true vehicle. I've always developed a special relationship with mine and they've each had a personality all their own. Crazy, huh ?

magpie said...

I saw a dozen robins in Winchester, today...love their sound as much as I love their beauty

finally got some live feed back again, now I need to see some H-P
but more, some egg-laying !!!

Kay said...

I need to think about dinner and get set for the evening of entertainment from Sochi, but I can't bear to leave. Our beauties are so busy with nestorations---I love it !

Kay said...

Oh, robins, harbingers of Spring---though I know most of us see them all winter long.

magpie said...

Yes, Kay, I do have some overwintering robins near the apartment, but these babies were definitely Returning Ones....they were all abuzz with activity for sure!

Live feed, is not alive right now for me....and I, too, have some things to tend to...

Good Evening, Eagle Pals...
Enjoy yourselves.....
xoxo

Kay said...

There she goes, calling again. She doesn't seem to want him to get far away.

NatureNut said...

Hello Everybody. See someone eating and chirping in nest!!!

Kay said...

Darkness is setting in and Belle is still in the nest. What a good sign it will be if she spends the night ! I'm gong on my way, but will be checking back often. Eggcitement reigns !

Kay said...

Night light on !

Janet said...

Good evening to all!
WOW DANAMO: a cruise! That sounds awesome.
Yes, the plan is to video the performance….
KAY: thank you….
Livvy and I are back from the hair dresser. I have a great stylist. She fixed Olivia’s bangs up very cute….lowered my ears…and life is great. Went over to Sally’s and picked up some sky blue hair dye. Liv wants some blue tips in her hair.
It is rain rain raining. Cold and rainy. Brrrrrr
Had a great day at work.
Thomas has spoiled me rotten for valentines day….. He is such a sweetie.
Hope everyone has a super evening. We’ll be heading to Hooters shortly!
HUGS

Lolly said...

Back inside and see Belle in the nest and the nest is looking great. Is tonight the night?

Lolly said...

She is arranging furniture. LOL

NatureNut said...

I had "heard" chirping, but don't know who was singing! Now I have no pic & no sound after refreshing.
Margy, glad you got "Old Faithful" back! Mucho prayers for your next wrist surgery.
Is that the same Friday as Paula's Larry's surgery?? I wanted to tell her that I think bananas are good for putting on weight.
We go0t real lucky today and young man knocked on door to ask about shoveling driveway this AM. That hadn't been touched by us and altho Fubby's back felt better, I gave him a $20 as a Valentine gift for paying the shoveler! Now we could get out if need be. I didn't have any work at Chel, but Wed. there was no heat---out of oil. Maint. guys brought some cans of diesel which they swear is the same thing. Heating expert tried the reset/primer button~~~~BROKEN. Need new part & no one coming back til TU!!! It was 37°, I was only there for a couple hours maybe, but didn't have on gloves and right hand fingers quit working!!! Very scary! Got OK after I left there w/gloves on, went shopping. Could that be carpal tunnel???
Sorry, I have no big problems, I hope, and should stay silent. Sure if there was something wrong on CT scan of ear "shadow" they would have called me. XXXOOO to all ☺

Lolly said...

Running sprinkler system in the morning. It is so dry here! While sitting out I see the Flowering Quince is leafed out and many daffodils are about to bloom. Some are blooming already.

Was that geese I just heard? Sounded like it!

NatureNut said...

Just had live cam back for a second and saw a foot and part of head at Noon.

Lolly said...

Thin Belle just poofed!

Kay said...

Oops, just walked by in time to see Belle still there and then POOF. Phooey. Still, a lot of interest there---maybe tomorrow.....

Love and prayers for all !!!

Evening all. I finally caught a glimpse of the royal couple. Very frustrating that I can't get the live feed or still cam on my computer. Glad I have this iPad

Sandi said...

Hi all - we are in Elkridge. Roads were fine and we didn't hit rush hour traffic. Lots of folks headed toward the beaches for the long weekend. Lots of snow here but no problem getting Mom in the condo. I texted her neighbor Tony that we were on our way and he texted back that he had shoveled a path from the parking lot right to Mom's door.

We have had some Pizza Hut pizza and Mom is all unpacked. Tonight she will be back in her bed with her comfy new memory foam mattress pad - hopefully she'll get a good night's sleep.

Lolly, sounds like you are feeling better - yay!

Janet, Madeline has an ice skating competition this weekend as well, but hers is on Monday. Not sure if we'll stay to see it or head back home Sunday evening. I have so many things that need doing at home that have been neglected b/c we've been driving to Baltimore every weekend. We haven't gathered things for the accountant to do our taxes, I haven't updated Denny's Quickbooks account and balanced his business checkbook, and my upstairs bathrooms haven't been cleaned and our bedroom dusted and vacuumed in I don't know how long.

Good to be able to see the nest again, even if it's MT and the snow looks pretty much gone in it - what a surprise! Thanks for the eagle activity reporting from this afternoon/evening. Maybe this weekend our pair will "get busy!"

Hoda said...

SANDI
Glad you made a safe trip.
Glad your Mom had a clear path leading up to her door.

I think we have two surgeries on the 21st, am I right?
MARGY, & LARRY?

DanaMo said...

Glad your mom is settled Sandi.

Cruise is off for now. The agent didn't call the cruise line soon enough to put a hold on the cabin. She will keep checking and trying to get mom and dad a spot. They shouldn't have canceled their first reservation back in Dec. they had insurance, but mom was just so negative. Sorry, but it's true, not nice to say, I guess.

Weather is supposed to be really nice next week.

Good night everyone.

Sandi said...

Hoda, I'm pretty sure you are right about the 2 surgeries next Friday - Larry and Paula.

magpie said...

Good Evening again...

Hello More Eagle Pals....

yes, Sandi and Hoda...
Larry, on the 21st, and me.....
Mine will be easy peazy, just the other hand for carpal tunnel surgery

Larry's - more of a concern, and
sending the Mega Prayers now, then, and afterward....

Happy Birthday to Madeline, Sandi,
and hey, all those things you mentioned that you have to catch up on...will come along pretty soon...Please HUG yourself a thousand times and then some for
all that you are doing for your Mother

xo

magpie said...

Loving to hear about the more and more snow-shoveling angels amongst us

Loretta...not sure what to say
about your hand that quit working....could be Carpal Tunnel, but...watch it and see, but COLD sounds a real good cause for it too, since it eased up when you got your hands warmed up

stronghunter said...

Noticed the full moon this evening, Margy. It is beauteous.

stronghunter said...

Okay, they are doing the skeleton races at the Olympics. That looks about as crazy as the luge.

stronghunter said...

Will and Hunter are our snow-shovelers. I used to enjoy getting out and shoveling snow, but haven't been inspired by it for a few years.

stronghunter said...

I think someone mentioned looking at Google today--If you have time, click on the individual hearts.

Lolly said...

Oh, yes, the full moon! Saw it through the bare trees in the middle of the night when I had a "calling". ☺

Dinner was delish...now finishing up a fantastic glass of wine.

We have decided to go to Dallas tomorrow for a Zacharooski basketball game. It is at 1:00, time enough for us to get back for our plans. He plays 3 against 3. Coach from his school is awesome, or so we are told. Zach got a bb net for Christmas and he can dribble and make baskets. That is great!

No more news reading till at least Monday!
Canada's Chief of Defence Staff blames Canadians for their protests and indignation over Veteran Suicides due to Gov't dismissing them 2,4,6 before their ten your pension!
Our protest is seen by him as giving suicide " honour" status. He is not seeing it as a request to not balance the budget on veterans shoulders!

Well I just finished emailing the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff!!!
I suggested that they might want to stop dismissing soldiers when they can no longer be deployed due to loss of limb or PTSD in service of our country.
I suggested that anyone in this situation should be put on life time pension indexed to the same category as cabinet members.

Hey all
SANDI: let me know how Madeline does! I hope she does great!
Here….it has been a busy evening and I am tired. When Tom got home, we hustled across town to Hooters and had dinner with the kiddos. Then over to their house to meet their new furbaby, Jasper. He is a mutt. Very cute, just under a year old. Seems to fit well.
Now home. I spent about 30 min putting Crystals on the collar of the costume for tomorrow. One at a time, placing glue, then crystal at a time…glad that’s done…my eyes were about to go cross!

JUDIE: did the sandman escape early? I’m getting very sleepy very quickly!
Good night for now. SED!

Good morning, HODA & MARGY!

Hoda, Glad you wrote your letters - hope they feel enough to act on your suggestions!

Janet, did you get Livvy's blue hair tips taken care of?

Sandi, Hope you can relax a little in Balto this weekend. Is your Mom glad to be home? I bet she'll really miss you. ♥

Shirley, what's up with the bb heater? I have one sits in the water in the bb and it has been working for close to ten years, now. Very happy with it, and so are the birds.

Kay, I've been turning on the Olympics and falling asleep to them every night. Always hate when it's over. Don't know how some of those youngsters do those flying ski acrobats in such baggy clothing!

Yes, homework on the agenda for me today. Didn't get all the info I needed at the hospital yesterday, but enough to start. Lots to do!

Can't wait to get the egg alert email - hopefully today! WoooHooo!

Thanks Hoda for the play by play during the night. All of your info. sounds encouraging, even though we still don't have an egg.

And an eagle is back with some nice fluffy grass - oh both are there. I heard one land so I know we have sound.

Sandi said...

Morning Lori. My sister and I are in a tough spot with Mom. Lisa and I feel that we are really ready to set up hospice care but we are unable to use the word hospice with Mom since we've not told her that her aneurysm is leaking. After spending a week living with Mom and seeing how much of the day she spends bent over with her head on her knees b/c she says "it doesn't hurt that way," I know these meds aren't working. Who wants to spend 60% of their waking time doubled over like that???

NatureNut said...

GM! Just saw Shep move the leftover whatever down toward 4PM & nibble, then moved a stick. Was a shadow from above and he just poofed.

Janet said...

Good morning eagle buds.

LORI: no haven’t had time to do the tips of olivia’s hair. We got home about 8:30 last night and after I put the crystals on the costume, I was to tired to do much. I hit the bed shortly thereafter. I had warned her it likely would not be last night, but most likely later today.
HODA: our night owl. Glad she has eagle eyes in the middle of the night, but am sure she would rather be sleeping….
Not a lot else going on around here this morning. Just finishing up coffee, sent Olivia to the shower. We have to leave about 8:30…there is the ice skating competition, a swim competition and a 5 K all at the sportsplex early this morning. The parking lot is small, so we will have to park off of the facility. She has to be there between 9 and 9:15.
Will check in later and let you know…hopefully with pix and video.
Light, love, hugs and smiles to each of you! Have a super Saturday!

Janet said...

Sandi: JMHO: maybe it is time to say the word hospice to mom. They can provide so much comfort, not only physical, but mental, and spiritual. Hospice was the best choice we made for our folks, and for Tom’s dad. It is tough, but it ismuch easier after they are there.
Our mom was in so much pain from the cancer. We engaged hospice services the end of august and she stayed around til the end of October. But for a few weeks of that, she was up dancing, smiling, etc. of course, as the time to leave came closer, she spent more and more time sleeping, but the pain meds made life so much more bearable.
Palliative care is a beautiful thing. It gave mom time to say her goodbyes, it gave us peace of mind knowing she wasn’t hurting. They came to the house, she never had to leave her home.
Blessings, light, comfort and love to you and your family. I know how tough this is my friend. ((((HUGS))))

NatureNut said...

Sandi, just read back and see your description of Mom's behavior. All God's Blessings and strength to you and your family on how/when to proceed. I don't know how you're doing it.
Endless Thoughts and Prayers for you and all our ill Momsters and Dadsters and their close members. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Janet said...

Maybe, talk to the doctor, see if it "is time" in his view...then go from there???? (((hugs))))

NatureNut said...

Janet, good luck to Olivia and enjoy!!!!

Sandi said...

OK, I'm going to go out on that limb where Judie, Jo, and most recently Hoda have been and say TODAY IS THE DAY for an egg! Some time today, on February 15th, which is the latest date she has laid an egg in the past 9 years (I think it's been 9 years that folks have been keeping track of Belle's egg-laying). Belle didn't decide to sit in that nest to keep the egg cup dry last night just for fun! She knows something!

NatureNut said...

See from comments that the dark brown material in nest is is probably wet flugg/phlugg (sp?). I thought they caught some furry prey!
Got a couple captures to put in album.
JO, when you're all set up w/new 'puter, you have to check out the Snip It feature! It's better than sliced bread for video still captures. I can't even remember the 6 or more techie steps we had to use before!
Altho, you'll probably still prefer your Still pics.

NatureNut said...

EAGLE in nest!

Judie said...

Good morning.

Looks to be Belle sitting in the nest. Perhaps today is the day/night.

Yes, sandperson got me early last night. Was just very tired.

Sandi, so sad for you and your sister. I'm sure you two will find a gentle way to do what is best for your mom.

Hope Jo gets permission to come in the front door today.

Hoda, get a protest poster and take a "selfie" to send to the Prime Minister.

Waiting with all of you to see what happens today. Does anyone remember if an egg was laid in daylight?

Ah, new mattress set is here. BBL Stay safe.

NatureNut said...

Hooray,Hooray!!! She's still there! Put my 2 pics in Momsters' album.
Wish they could zoom out a tad-oh well, can see that bird is there. Turned around now, so NHZ.

Hoda said...

Why would you have to say anything about the aneurysm leaking?
SANDI just tell your MOM you have decided that 24 hour nursing care is important. You can take about what you observed while she was visiting. You can say it will give you comfort
We had 24 hour nursing for my mother.
When she left the nurse was in the house.
We knew how she went about her transition.
Blessed Be

grannyblt said...

Good morning all. I've been awake since 5 since the phone was pinging with the news of the overnight visit. Can only get live feed for 11 seconds before the spinning circle. Good thing the ipad is more reliable. I really need to shower and then get started with laundry, but I'll keep the mini near.

Sandi, I know what a difficult time you are going through, I'll keep you and your Mom and the rest of the family in prayer.

grannyblt said...

Hoda, my daughter lives in Alaska and she is one hour behind Pacific time.

Kay said...

Good Morning Again, Eagle Buds !!!

Sorry I had to bug out on ya, HODA, but got some needed and good rest. So good to see it wasn't all a dream in the middle of the night. Belle is definitely planning on delivery !

SANDI, you and Lisa will come up with the right words and a plan, I'm sure. Your Mom is in a weakened state and may not protest as much as you anticipate. I would think she worries about being all alone a lot of the time. Seems to me that patients usually know more than they may reveal about their condition and what it means. Prayers with you all !

stronghunter said...

Good morning!

I saw Belle, then the cam went down for me, but now it is up, and Belle is there on the egg cup.

Now the cam is down again. Oh, please, we really want the cam today.

Anyone else having problems?

stronghunter said...

Now cam is back.

Sandi, I am thinking of you and your family. I have wondered if your mother might know more than you realize.

It does sound as if it would be a good idea to discuss everything and all of your options with her doctors.

Kay said...

So glad we have a Momster in a far West time zone, making it possible to get near 24 hour coverage of the nest.

The wind doth blow at Sycamore Palace.

May the Ides of February bless us with an EGG !

Thanks to all of you who are doing captures for the album !!!

Waiting eagerly for JO to git er' Google on and join us !

LORI, take time to enjoy our nest twixt homework assignments !

stronghunter said...

Cloudy today. Looks like it could rain or snow at any moment.

Sandi said...

Shirley, the live feed has been running for an hour and a half for me without stopping or without me getting that twirling arrow.

Hoda, you are absolutely right why didn't I think of that? Just home health care since she lives alone. Thanks - will talk with Lisa about it today.

Kay, sometimes I think Mom knows her time is short. For example, while she was at our house, she had me go to all of the websites where her investments are to check the passwords. It was like she wanted me to know where all her money is. But other times she says things like, I just wish the doctors could figure out where this pain is coming from so they could get it fixed and I can get better.

Snowing lightly here in Elkridge and at the nest. And Belle is still there keeping that spot dry!

I suspect that the outlet may be the problem with my birdbath heater. I could probably plug the heater in elsewhere. Just would need to move the birdbath.

Right now, the water is not frozen anyway.

Speaking of Momster's out West. Poor Andy is suffering in 70-80 degree heat according to my newspaper ! Had more snow overnight, but within a week we are to have temps creeping up daily toward 60 ! It will be soooo nice to see the ground again, in all it's brown glory.

Belle gives us a good look at the empty nest cup--she's moving around and hopefully thinking about getting down to business !

DanaMo said...

I have the cam and see an eagles backside. Just sitting. :)

stronghunter said...

It does look promising . . . Belle is still there.

DanaMo said...

Maybe today will be the day?!?!?

stronghunter said...

Hoping, Dana.

Kay said...

Don't see a mention of Shep's having brought breakfast in. Our mama needs some nourishment ! Just enough of her scruff is showing so we can see that she's looking around. Perhaps following Sheps' movements.

SANDI, lots of advice to be had here as so many of us have gone through similar times in our lives. Take what you can, discard the rest and use us as a way to vent and sort out your feelings. That will lead you toward all the right decisions on your Mom's behalf !

Kay said...

Hey, DANAMO ! Looks like a front side to me ☺. So sorry your folks missed out on the cruise reservation--hope there is a cancellation so they can join their friends !

Kay said...

LORETTA, the years run together, but I'm sure I've seen daylight egg laying. May be thinking of Norfolk, but I think Belle has given us a daytime view before, too.

Judie said...

Grrrr! Snowing here. Really so weary of this weather.

DanaMo, do hope there will be a cancellation so your folks can take the cruise. Here's wishin'

DanaMo said...

Well now it looks like the front side, but maybe it has been all along. I could't see any white earlier.

DanaMo said...

Kay, I think this is the first time we have been on together in forever!!

JO WANTED EVERYONE TO KNOW, that she is alive and well - on FaceBook now - but she still can't get on the blog. She's working on it.

Kay said...

Thanks, LORI ! I know many are keepin' up with the action via FB and it's good to know JO is one of them.

So, how's tricks at your place today ?

DANAMO, I know, we aren't often on here at the same time now that I'm not one of the early birds. What's the latest word from Aric ? Does he seem to be happy with things at DU now ?

stronghunter said...

Snowing here now.

Kay said...

Oh, my, snow falling and wind howling at the Palace. Gives me the shivers just to see and hear it !

stronghunter said...

I will add my vote to the list of those wishing that Dana's folks will get that cruise.

stronghunter said...

Supposed to be a windy afternoon in these parts.

Kay said...

I'm so happy to have witnessed Belle rising up and moving around earlier. Now I know that we can see into the nest cup. While I'd love to see the nest fully, at least this is a comfort.

Lolly said...

Good morning! Hoda, thanks for all the good reporting on the nestcapades. Knew to get the cam up because of your comments on fb. Have you gotten any sleep?

We leave shortly to go to Dallas for Zach's bb game. Going just for the game and then heading home. They have other plans and so do we for this evening.

Sure wish it was not snowing at the nest. Did she sit in the egg cup before there was snow?

Sandi....Hoda did have a wise suggestion about the hospice care. Hope that it works. Prayers for your Mom.

stronghunter said...

Speaking of going out on a limb, I have placed an order for Verizon Fios. They are to do the installation on Thursday.

I saw Jo's comments on FB. Thanks for bringing it over, Lori.

Saw the snow at the Sycamore, then the connection went down again. Frustrating.

Lolly said...

Belle is up. Could not see into the egg cup.

stronghunter said...

Not fair that our matriarch is locked out. Good grief.

Serious snow here now.

Kay said...

I saw the interview of a poor woman beside her wrecked car in the horrible PA turnpike chain reaction accident. She was understandably teary eyed as she called this, "the winter from Hell".

Belle, Belle, do move over a bit so we can see that nest cup while you're stretching !

stronghunter said...

Yes, she was sitting in the egg cup before the snow, Lolly.

Kay said...

LOLLY, yes, she began to sit there very early this morning and the snow didn't begin in earnest til' about an hour ago.

Have fun at Zach's game !

stronghunter said...

Funny thing--a weather person here said that the snow today will stick on the grass but not on the roads. What grass? Our grass is covered with many inches of snow already.

stronghunter said...

My phone and my computer are beeping away. One beep for every comment on FB. With Jo on FB, there is much conversation over there.

Kay said...

LOL, SHIRLEY, grass indeed ! I can't wait to see the brown, brown grass of home again ! Sorry you're having cam issues--it's working well for me. I agree, taint fair for JO to be locked out here---Mr. Google Gatekeeper---let our leader go !

stronghunter said...

Yes, Kay, that mess on the PA Turnpike is awful.

Lolly said...

Just was chatting with Jo. She is trying to get on.

Lori O. said...

Ahhhh, Sandi. Precious moments with your Mom.

It's finallly stopped snowing here. YAY. Melt! Melt!

Lolly said...

Going to say bye now! Need to eat and dry my hair and get ready to go!

stronghunter said...

I am hoping that my cam issues, etc., will be cleared up with the new stuff from Verizon. I am also supposed to be getting a new hard drive soon. Will is supposed to install it for me. Now I am worried I will have the same problems as Jo.

stronghunter said...

Belle still in the same spot at about 9:00.

stronghunter said...

Grass will surely be brown here, too, Kay. My Colorado brother said that it has been so long since he has seen his grass that he's concerned about snow mold. I don't know much about snow mold.

Kay said...

Shirley, never heard of snow mold, so looked it up on Wikipedia:

Snow mold is a type of fungus and turf disease that damages or kills grass after snow melts, typically in late winter.[1] Its damage is usually concentrated in circles three to twelve inches in diameter, although yards may have many of these circles, sometimes to the point at which it becomes hard to differentiate between different circles. Snow mold comes in two varieties: pink or gray. While it can affect all types of grasses, Kentucky bluegrass and fescue lawns are least affected by snow mold.

Here's hoping this definition is as close as any of us get to the stuff !!!

stronghunter said...

Thanks, Kay. I was going to look it up. They have a nice lawn. I hope they do not have a problem.

Kay said...

Belle displays such stoicism, sitting there with feathers ruffling in the cold wind. Looks like snow has stopped for now.

grannyblt said...

I've heard that if you don't rake up your leaves, your lawn is more prone to snow mold.

Kay said...

LYNNE1, that makes sense. Thankfully my condo dues take care of leaf blowing duties. I can't recall ever seeing snow mold in these parts, but rural areas fall victim to it as huge expanses of leaves are left to rot. What's the latest news on David ?

Hoda said...

SANDI there are many levels and depths to knowing and how we know.
On one level your mother knows.
It is too much knowing so on a different level she does not know.
Perfect example to check o. Her banking info and sites. She is a smart and practical lady.

DanaMo said...

Oh Sandi...praying for all of you!

Aric is much happier with his major change. It was never the school, it was engineering. He sounds "animated" if that is possible on text messages! LOL!

DanaMo said...

I'm freezing and so sick of winter, I'm going out of my mind. This year I have talked about moving more than ever. I don't know how many more years I can take before I make my dream come true. Spent the evening looking at homes on Zillow in the Naples/Marco Island/Fort Myers area. Monte was right there looking with me. I think there is something good about in state tuition for college too. JudyE? Whats the story? We could establish residency before Annemarie goes to college!

Kay said...

DANAMO, glad you're getting positive vibes from Aric ! What is his Major now ?

Lolly said...

On way to Dallas. Dana, you should live in Florida one summer before you move there permanently. It is so hot and humid!

Kay said...

DANAMO, LOLLY has good advice re:Florida. I had a condo in Tarpon Springs for three years, late 70's. Had encounters with snakes, insects of all kinds, roaches that go by the lovely name of Palmetto Bugs, an alligator and went to the hospital after a deer fly bite. I could take a shower, go outside on an exterior walkway to the elevator two doors down and be dripping with sweat by the time I got there. Then there are the hurricanes....My condo was gorgeous with an open view to the Gulf, but I've never missed it for a moment ! There are so many more pleasant sun spots, in Texas and Arizona particularly.

Hoda said...

I am watching JO.
I see your comments on FB
I think she is just curled up in the cup
Facing cam is what I think as tail feathers are not in view.
Her head is not in view either.

DanaMo said...

His major is computer science. He is doing code and such...

Calling out by Belle. Looking for lunch?

I love hot and humid. Can't be any worse then it is here in the summer.

Oh food arrived., I think? And Belle left?

DanaMo said...

Not interested in AZ. Not sure that I would want TX either, no offense.

Sandi said...

I hear Belle calling out and then chirping. Calling for Shep? She's up and turning around. Rearranging grass. Now Shep is in the nest.

DanaMo said...

CA would really be the place to go, but cost of living is too high and I'm an East coast kinda girl I think.

Sandi said...

One just flew out - saw a shadow. I'm guessing this is Belle still in the nest??

Kay said...

We'll just leave it at "to each his own", but I can assure you Florida hot and humid is far worse than any experienced in most of the country !

Kay said...

I think she wants him to bring lunch in. Come on Shep !

DanaMo said...

Nest is empty? :(

Sandi, my friend who was looking at puppies just put a deposit on one. I sure hope your friend finds a home for the siblings. They are adorable. And already been together for 13 weeks so I hope they can stay together.

Kay said...

She Poofed ! May have to scrounge up a meal on her own.

Sandi said...

Did Belle take off?? You know that saying, if you want something done, best to do it yourself? Maybe she went to get her own lunch!

DanaMo said...

Did she consider allergy shots. We are all somewhat allergic to dogs, but that hasn't stopped us from having 3! I could never give away dogs that I already have, way too hard. I would suffer first. But that's just me.

Sandi said...

Dana, I've gotten a text and a message on FB from people who are interested in the puppies - I don't think they'll stay homeless for long, not with those faces! Didn't the all black one in the front look like a tiny black lab?

Sandi said...

When we got our cat many years ago, Denny discovered he was allergic to it. I said get used to it. Then we found out Kevin (about age 5 at the time) was allergic as well - kept getting ear infections and eventually needed tubes in his ears. At that point, we gave Shadow to the neighbor across the street so we could all visit him and hear about how he was doing without having him in our house. It worked out OK.

I saw one eagle return to the nest but I don't know if s/he is still there and in the IEZ.

Dana, BTW, I'm with you as far as it can never be too hot or too humid. But I'm not sure that Denny feels that way. That's why I think we'll keep our place in Bethany and either rent or buy something in FL for the winters - I have heard lots of good things about the Fort Myers Beach area.

stronghunter said...

I see eagle feet in our nest.

magpie said...

SPLIT COMING UP,
MAYBE, 4 OR 5 POSTS FROM NOW
XOXO

grannyblt said...

Dana, the hot and humid in FL is unrelenting for months. And what Kay said about the bugs...

Kay said...

The snow is clearing out of the nest quickly. Light and fluffy--you can see wisps of it blowing away, Belle and Shep have probably cleared some of it--with body heat if nothing else.
