Thursday

We are all watching to see if a nesting season materializes in the nest this year.  In past years we have seen eggs in the next week, with a good deal of presence in the nest during the second half of January.

We suspect that the lack of time spent on the nest could indicate that our pair has another nest, a normal occurrence after using a single nest for this many years.  The cold weather could also be an impact, slowing things down a bit.

Time will tell, and I will keep you posted.

New thread.

Goodorming Lori, Judy and all my eagle friends.

Judy, how are you feeling today? Do you work today?

Hoda, hope you are sleeping!

Another encouraging sign, to see eagles in the nest earlier and earlier in the morning.

Tennis for me at 9am. Forecast is for 55 degrees today and then just rain tonight, no snow.

Have a great day all.

Goodorming Linda! Great to see you back on the blog!

Linda said...

Don't have time to read back or to stay and chat!!

Gotta get ready for church. It's nice to se the nest dry and with the glorious sun shining on it!!

Will try to catch up later this afternoon.

Hoping everyone is happy and well!!

Have a Blessed Day!!

Linda said...

Thanks, Sandi! It is good to be back!!

Have missed y'all!!

Question: What is NHZ you all keep mentioning. It obviously refers to the nest, but there must be a story behind it!!

Sandi said...

Lori christened the area of the nest that we can't see the No Head Zone (NHZ) b/c often, we get a view of a body and/or tail with no head! :)

Linda said...

Haha!! That is a good one!! I'll have to get with the program!! I know I have lots to get caught up on!!

Sandi said...

And Lolly created "goodorming" which I love b/c i don't have to hit the space bar to make 2 words - thank you, Laurel Beth!!!

Looks like the nest is now MT and I need to scoot to get ready for tennis.

I do love their tails - don't get me wrong... ♥

That is Shep in the nest now - I think?

They had best be digging that egg cup deep - Tonight into Mon we are due about 5" snow..... Hope Belle waits to lay eggs.

Mema Jo said...

Hoda - I change my mind
It is Belle in the nest

Hoda said...

Jo I think this is Belle in the cup.
Straight white tail feathers, is Belle according to PAULA if I am not confused!
Yikes that is a lot of snow for Monday.
I too miss seeing their heads...
Is she tucked in?
We used to be able to tell so much by when she was resting or not before egg delivery

Hoda said...

I hear you JO and I agree with you.

Judie said...

Good morning!

Hoda, the Super Bowl is a contest between two Sandpersons. There are several rules. Each must be wearing snow shoes, each must be carrying a fully loaded satchel of sleepy dust, there can be no hitting or kicking, and the winner must make a special visit to Nelson, B.C.

Seattle Sea Hawks versus the Denver Broncos. Game taking place in East Rutherford, NJ - just across the river from NYC. It's a big deal. Big party day in the U.S.

Lori, keep at it. You're on a roll.

Off to find more coffee, check he nest, and to prepare for the visitors.

Good Morning. A beautiful bird in the nest!!!!

stronghunter said...

I see Belle. Shep is in the NHZ> I see his feet.

NatureNut said...

I don't hear any sound on my cam pic.

stronghunter said...

Hi Loretta!!

stronghunter said...

There was a soft eagle call a few minutes ago, but I don't hear anything now, either.

stronghunter said...

Looks like snow is disappearing from the ground below the nest. Unfortunately, we are supposed to have snow and ice tomorrow.

NatureNut said...

Just checked again and there ARE feet at the mystery zone.

stronghunter said...

Yep. Two of them.

NatureNut said...

Hi Shirley! Guess we checked at the right time!

stronghunter said...

Surprised no one else is here.

stronghunter said...

Poof Belle.

stronghunter said...

Feet are not visible now.

stronghunter said...

stronghunter said...

Got one screen grab.

NatureNut said...

Both POOF. Got captures earlier to put in album.
Seeing an eagle in the AM makes my day.
I read that Groundhog prediction is not favorable. But how much worse could weather get?

NatureNut said...

Hoda, All our pro football teams belong to one of two "Leagues", so they are not divided by location. There is AFL--American Football League & NFL--National Football League. (Within each league are divisions, I think they're called). That's about as much as I know. ☺

stronghunter said...

How much worse could weather get? Oh my, maybe we should not ask that question.

Mema Jo said...

That was a very long visit

Jenny is here - I have been on the phone

Now off to visit with Jenny

BBL

Mema Jo said...

Hi Shirley and Loretta - I have been watching our beautiful couple for over an hour. I am glad you all got on and were able to see the end of the visit as
I was all alone until Hoda came on.
I have FB pictures - Probably put them in our album soon.

Stay warm and I am praying no eggs until after our snow storm melts... ♥

Judie said...

Saw our two eagles. Looked like Belle in the nest and Shep's feet were in the NHZ. Soft eagle chirps. Left to do a chore. Now MT nest.

Hoda, you are just too funny. Lowreeda gave a good explanation. The best team from the NFL and the best team from the AFL play in the Super Bowl. The winning team becomes Super Bowl champions for a year. Denver is favored (quarterback and several others have SB experience while non of the SH has that experience. Seems I always go for the underdog. However, Darth's aunt is the epitome of Chatty Cathy so I doubt I'll be able to focus on the game.

Okay, back to a few more "getting ready" chores. BBL

NatureNut said...

I must use that expression!

Now what is the history behind it...

Thank you LORETTA
Thank you JUDIE

We were here SHIRLEY.
They had quite a long visit.

I am off to yoga for the rest of the day.
Two workshops with two separate teachers.
Looking forward to them!

Enjoy the day.
I am with JO.
I hope no eggs till the snow melts.

Just getting on for a second. Larry and Sandy arrived Thursday evening. That night Larry got sick with a stomach virus. Will NOT go into details. Last night just after I got dinner on the table, I came down with it. Excused myself to the bedroom and Sharon and Dan left for their RV. During the night Jack got sick. He is still in bed. Larry and Sandy left half an hour ago. Larry still has symptoms but Sandy has not come down with it. Gave them garbage bags and sent them on their way. About to cover us with a blanket here in my chair. Not much sleep last night. I ask for prayers for my brother in law, Dan. He absolutely should not get this bug. It could easily send him to the hospital because of health and previous surgeries.

I'll be back later. Expect some ice and snow today.

Sandi said...

Home from tennis and there is Miss Belle in the nest - yay!!

Jo, I agree with you that this is "da nest" for this season!

Good morning to all.
JUDYE: glad you are doing better. I hate that you have to work when you are feeling so poorly.

Had a nice long sleep. I had run out of soy and had had some night sweats and poor sleep for a few days. I doubled up yesterday so I slept well, and long last night. Not too much on the agenda today, get ready for classes this coming weekend. Get ready for the week, make some dinner…It will be just us here tonight, trying to decide on dinner food….game around 6 I think. I can “watch” the game, cross stitch, etc play on computer …. Not a die hard fan, but I like football okay. Chelsea invited us over, but I just want to have a lazy day here at the house…and with the colder weather coming in, I don’t want to be out on the roads, although it will likely be fine.
SIL, Chris starts his new job today. Quite the change for him working 3 p to midnight. Hopefully this job will be a good fit for their family.
It is raining this morning, but colder air is supposed to find us again and by tomorrow possibly some ice and snow. We shall see.
I will put some more peanuts out for the birds. I see they are eating seed and suet right now.
Hope everyone has a lovely day. Go LORI: You can do it!!!! Cheering you on!!!
Light, love, hugs, healing and smiles to all. Enjoy your day. Party on. GO whichever football team each of you may be rooting for. Lol.

I think we might have killed our family room TV, or perhaps it expired without our help. It gave Kathryn quite a shock yesterday. (An electrical one.) I turn off the power cord last night, then Kathryn went down this morning and tried to get it to work. I am wondering if she remembered I had turned it off. Don't know.

Good late morning, Been pretty busy lately...49 hours last week and 53 this week. OT will help pay around $500 repair bill. Still have a problem but not brake related. Getting kind of discouraged about the whole thing. Looks like I have missed some excitement lately and things seem to be picking up at the nest. I'm guessing this will be the nest used for this season. I can only watch the CAM about 30-45 seconds before it disappears. I did see an eagle finally the other morning...not sure which one...it had a black patch on white part of tail feathers. First and only time that I have seen an eagle. Thought I saw Sandi's Mom is some better and glad for that news. Hope things will be good. Would like to see Peyton Manning win a Super Bowl but have no other interest in the game. Take care all. I may not always post but I do check the CAM from time to time - just haven't seen much to report. Enjoy the day.

stronghunter said...

stronghunter said...

I believe it is Belle who's still there.

stronghunter said...

Hope you get to enjoy the game, Judie.

stronghunter said...

You enjoy your day, too, Jerry. And I hope you get to see more of the eagles. They seem to have decided that Groundhog day is a good day to visit the nest. Maybe the nice weather today is drawing them in.

Tomorrow is supposed to be pretty dicey weather-wise. Just hope it is not going to be too challenging for our eagles.

Sandi said...

Just checked the Shepherdstown weather:
- high of 51 degrees today
- rain this evening changing to sleet and then snow, low of 32 degrees, 1-2" of snow expected
- tomorrow, snow in the AM tapering to snow showers later, temps steady in the low 30s, 3-5" of snow expected.

Belle and Shep can handle that - after all, they're EAGLES!!!

Belle is still in the nest, just standing at the 3 position looking around. She chirps a little every once in a while. I am headed to the grocery store but sure am happy to have seen so much of our eagles already today!! I have faith in our feathered pair!!

Later.

stronghunter said...

Poof.

grannyblt said...

Yay , I saw Belle for a while. Things are looking more promising

Lolly, sounds like you all have been on that cruise ship. Hope it passes quickly for all.

Judie said...

All is done except to await the new bed sometime between 1-5pm.

Chatty Cathy: Anyone remember a doll called Chatty Cathy? Darth's aunt Kathy literally talks non-stop. I've sometimes found myself staring at her mouth in amazement and trying to figure out when she takes a breath. It really is exhausting to try for an actual conversation so I usually just mentally drift off to my fantasy world. Kind of interesting, his Uncle rarely says a word - gee, wonder why?

Lolly, so very sorry everyone is having stomach problems. No fun for anyone. Hope everyone is better and Dan escapes the virus.

Hi Jerry. Nice to have you here today. Glad you got some extra hours to help with the expenses.

Shirley, have Will or an electrician check out the electrical problem. Could be wiring in the wall or the outlet not the tv.

Speaking of Chatty Cathy, I've done enough.

oh Lolly, so sorry for the stomach virus. Your lack of details leads me to think that it came on suddenly, with forceful evacuation of the digestive tract from both ends. Norovirus, maybe? Been there, done that. It's pretty short lived but nasty while is active. I truly hope and pray that Dan will not get sick, and that the rest of you feel better soon.

what will happen top E3 he is still in the nest make me cry to turn it on

JudyEddy said...

you know I may have gotten it wrong E3 was the older eaglet not the younger one darker feathers on him Not certain if it was the smaller one right now????

JudyEddy said...

after looking at the eaglets I do think it was the larger one that parished

JudyEddy said...

this was on the facebook page of the Southwest page

For all of those asking, I think E3 died from an obstruction. I've had the joy of having a macaw for the past 36 years. Birds naturally hide any illness- by the time they look ill, they are very ill. The dominant chick tends to wolf their food, and likely got a bone or something stuck. If it was a respiratory thing, we would have seen coughing or nasal (beak) discharge from its nares (nostrils). Probably if we went back on the vids we would have seen E3 not pooping, or just pooping white liquid (urine), and then that stopping as the bird got dehydrated.

Good Groundhog's Day Afternoon Eagle Buds !!!

Just checkin' up on y'all...

LOLLY, sorry your family was hit so forcefully with a vile bug--prayers for all of you and especially for Dan !

Great reporting on our lovely eagles ! So happy with their frequent visits and nestoration work.

Seth did come over last night for our usual dinner, radio show and TV. Hugh picked him up at noon and will be taking him back to school this evening. I feel sure he'll be home next weekend, too, as he wants to watch Olympic coverage as much as possible. I'd like to see him socialize more and enjoy weekend on campus experiences, but as long as he needs these recharge times his parents and I are here for him.

Yesterday 50, today 32. It rained all night and the huge piles of snow have diminished a bit, but now we'll have ice galore. Disappointed with the Groundhog news, but it is what I expected !

WVJerry said...

Just got a couple quick things. Thanks for the well-wishes. Just went out and messed with car. I had a piece of metal rubbing something and was able to pry it away and it seems to be fine. Also had the Service Engine Soon light on for a while - I just played around some hoses and wires and such related to the EGR valve and the light went out. Might return but it's out for now. Also was experimenting with CAM. When the little arrow just starts to spin - I hit the pause button - it refreshes itself - and continues. Not perfect but more tolerable for me. Glad a lot of you know about the whole nesting process and can help someone like me understand things. Alright now an eagle to watch.

This game has been a real mixed bag for me ...

Loved Queen Latifah singing America the Beautiful, not so crazy about the opera singer who performed the Star Spangled Banner (sorry, not an opera fan).

Loved Bruno Mars, like the Chili Peppers, but mixing them didn't work for me.

Commercials have only been so-so, except for the Doberwawa, or is it Doberhuahua?

And then there is the game itself ... nuf said!

Shutting down for the night - just rain in the forecast for Bethany. Goodnight all - it was a good day for our eagles!

Holly glad you and Jack are starting to feel more human.

Sounds like our nest is going to be used this year.

Jerry hope you get the car issues resolved.

So sorry to hear about E3.

Saw an eagle out front today and yesterday. Also saw a juvie out on the ice that was floating down the river today. The ice pretty much melted overnight on the river. The snow melted yesterday .

Been working on getting pipes wrapped under the house..plus new heat tape on some other pipes.

Larry got started on removing the ceiling from the front room..he is putting in a new one for me for my Christmas present.

Closing down for the day
Eagles made a lot of trips to the nest.
Tonight it looks MT - really can't see too well up in that area. Soon I think we will have an egg.

Prayers for good health to return to whose with illness..... ♥

Goodnight to all ♥ SED ♥

Hoda said...

LOLLY so sorry you continue to not feel well.
Prayers for healing.

JO let us know when CHRISTINE hears about her new house. I hope it is close to family.

I like LARRY very much. Practical and to the point. Fixes things. YAY

Thank you JUDYE with all your help posting pictures in our album. I am grateful.

It felt like a normal day at the nest. Like SANDI I am more at ease for this season.

E3's death is so sad. I do not think they can send someone up there to remove him/her.
I hope whatever the eagles do to remove it they do it at night, or that some administrators are watching to turn the feed off! There will be an emotional response.

stronghunter said...

Sad about the loss of E3.

Hope that a good night's sleep is all that you and Jack need, Lolly.

The bowling alley was very busy today, Margy. There was a group next to me, and when I reached down to pick up my ball, one of their balls rolled down and hit my hand. I know I should pick up my ball on the sides so my hands don't end up between balls. Just got a little scrape. I'm okay.

I got ice and a band aid from the concession stand. They offered to let me fill out an incident report, but I declined.

They had a bowl-as-long-as-you- want event today. Not sure what the price was, but they said some people had been bowling all day.

stronghunter said...

Getting near another split.

stronghunter said...

So nice that you saw Jewels today, Margy. I enjoyed meeting her at the Momster gathering.

stronghunter said...

SED, everyone.

It looks to be raining at the nest, and the weather map shows that snow is close.

Still fairly warm here, and we're to get rain and then some snow, but likely not much.

Hoda said...

Glad your hand is OK SHIRLEY.
Yes better to not get it stuck between moving balls as a regular occurance.

Good night
See you tomorrow

Lori O. said...

It's Monday - yuck! Back to work/school today.

Lolly, hope you're feeling less puny today, and the rest was just what you needed.

Shirley, sorry about your hand. That must have hurt! I don't think it's good when a bowling ball hits anything other than the pins. :)

Went to bed at 10:30 last night and took forever to fall asleep. It'll be a long day. I have Adult Sim (in the simulation lab) today. Don't even know what we'll be doing.

Hope the nest and everyone in the storm warning area stays safe and warm. Only got a dusting here overnight.

Sandi said...

Goodorming Lori and all my eagle friends.

Nest is MT and it appears to be snowing there. Snow must have just started as there is none in the nest.

No precipitation here and it's way too warm for snow.

Lolly hope you and Jack are back to normal today.

Lori, sorry about the poor night's sleep - lousy way to start a school week!

More state testing for me all day today (actually all week this week). Have a good day everyone.

Kay said...

Good Early Morning Eagle Buds !!!

LORI, too bad it's "simulation" and not stimulation lab--but then you may be stimulated by simulation, who knows ?

SHIRLEY, ouch ! Lesson learned !

So sad about E3. Another reminder that our wildlife friends live in a very dramatic and sometimes cruel world. I guess we humans do, too, for that matter.

Hmmm, cherry pie. As a kid I always asked for cherry pie or cobbler for birthdays rather than cake. Still do, even though I can have only a sliver.

Yikes, what a lopsided game ! The kind I find uber boring. I watched PBS all evening---Sherlock Holmes, a local documentary featuring the history of the Ohio State University neighborhood, and D. A. with it's usual delightful, even though soapish ups and downs !

Have to call the dentist 1st thing today---a little piece of a front tooth crumbled off---hope he can just file off the rough edge---hate to think of capping a front tooth !

Have a great Monday all ! Saying a prayer for all with the punies !

Good morning. Happy snow day!

DanaMo said...

I can't believe we are missing another day of school. I am really so done with this weather and missing days.

DanaMo said...

Looking at Glo's pictures I am amazed at the number of eagles. The pictures she shows where they are catching fish and fighting for the food really shows what it is like outside our little window at NCTC. No one home right now. Wonder how this weather is going to affect our pair.

The game was awful. I wasn't routing for either team because I simply didn't care and have no loyalties in football, but man, that was one boring game. Turned it off in the 3rd.Even the commercials weren't anything great. Of course, Bud did a great job, and I liked the one Pepsi commercial. I did not like the Coke commercial. But that's just MHO! LOL
