Report from Jenny's (daughter)sightings

Chickadee babies have come to my garden today....yes, they are one of my favorite birds. Coming home from the store I also saw a box turtle crossing the road headed to my house.
Not bad for a dreary rainy day...

magpie said...

Zippity Doo Dah!
Great Time for a New Thread...
Thanks Steve
Thanks Jo

love the chickadee report also
Jo

xox time to unplug from the computers here
Jewels is here now ♥ ☺

New thread - :o)
Thank you!
Only plain birds here: robins, sparrows,a goldfinch or two, and a busy little wren filling all the bird houses with twigs to protect his territory.

Thanks for the new thread, STEVE, and for the call over, JO!

Congrats, JO, on your new feather!

Good evening. Haven't checked out the nest yet but want to thank Wanda again! The yellow columbine is just gorgeous! Hope to get a picture of it soon. Didn't find the dark ones yet but it took 2 years for the yellow one to bloom. So there is hope.

Sharon, sorry you have to wait. I also have to wait for approval of the insurance company. Waiting to get Synvisc (sp?) injections in my knees. Why are doctors not giving these approvals? Too many business execs trying to be doctors. Just had to vent.

Megan, thanks for posting the name of that purple flower (weed). I remember now that planted "silver dollar" seeds a few years back and think that is what they are. DUH! My memory is really going astray lately.

CarolAnne, love the avatar. Looks like the 'Morton Salt" logo in red.

Hoda, just reading your posts make me tired. Feels like I was at the gym - and no sweat!

Lori, best of luck in your education. If you were closer I'd meet you for lunch.

No hummingbird today that we saw but those d%#& starlings and grackles are making a mess of the feeders. We did have a flock of goldfinches the past week but those big black birds are scaring them off. IMHO

Forgot to thank Steve! Thanks and congrats to Jo for the feather.

Now must check the nests - eagles, osprey and peregrines. BBL

Hello and good evening eagle budlets
Home from work as if you didn't know LOL
Naturally I went to the park and saw all thee and one parent feeding time seems to be right before 6 now

also I found a little bowl nest on the ground don't know what kind of bird it belongs to its small and has a couple of feather stuck in it to the inside so I took pictures will post on blog as soon as I get to it and download pic

JudyEddy said...

I put the nest on the blog if anyone wants to try to identify the nest and the feather that was in it

Little birds nest????

Judie said...

Good early evening.

Thank you Steve for the fresh thread and congratulations to Jo on a feather for her Spring bonnet.

Interesting day today. Remember I have 100 students to monitor in a large lecture hall. Proctor did not show up to help with the exam, students helped me distribute the exam copies, invisible proctor emailed and now wants to make amends by grading the exams. Well, grading is electronic. Got lots and lots of hugs and some high-fives, a basketball player stopped by for a hug. I will calculate final grades tomorrow.

Where is Hoda? Well, she's off having a grand old time while I sit here wishing I had a brownie! Okay, a glass of wine will have to make do.

Will try to read back and catch up.

Lori O. said...

JUDIE, was today your last day with the kids? Sounds like they really enjoyed your class.

Mema Jo said...

Just checked nest - 4 little feetsies side by side

Sandi said...

Good evening all!

Thanks Steve for a new thread and Jo for the call over!

Gray and drizzly here all day, but not cold.

Almost looks like an MT nest - I can only see one pair of feet all the way at the top. Maybe our eaglets are preparing us for what we'll see in about 5 weeks?

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Good evening my eagle budlets. I just got home from a meeting. Still waiting to hear about the MRI and I will call tomorrow to see the status. I go for physical therapy tomorrow and Thursday. Not going back to the pain management clinic for 3 weeks to give this physical therapy a try. Got too many different things happening at the same time.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I left 3 birds off my list. A downy woodpecker, a red-bellied woodpecker and a pileated woodpecker.

Oh, and starlings.

I put the nest of FB to see if any one can ID it
I did put on blog if any one knows nest if you could ID it under Misc Blog I was trying to think what to do with it thinking about seeing if a school would like it Shame it fell out of the tree It really has been windy when I am at the park

JudyEddy said...

OK DVR time

I agree, go the Physical Therapy route for a bit...

Judie:
Of course! High-Fives and Hugs...
one question:
Did the Basketball Player pick you up and hug you, or did he bend down and hug you, or did you
just settle for hugging him around
his waist... ?
Well-done, Professor, wonderful
report of this important day ♥

magpie said...

Well, Diann...I guess a finch-only feeder with those tiny holes and expensive niger seed...would
deter the grackles and starling....

magpie said...

a friend/co-worker of mine has a nest with 5 or 6 eggs in a nest that bird built underneath a
Dallas Cowboys blanket on an outside bench! We have to figure out what kind of bird it is...

magpie said...

JudyE
neat pictures of the nest and the feather...
I do not know, but I betcha
someone here will !
maybe the nest-birds found the
feather and brought it in
for nest materials

magpie said...

I like ALL the birding reports
from all of us here....

I saw tiger swallowtails this past
week-end, and maybe a young zebra...
and maybe a Mourning Cloak,
or some other dark colored
butterfly
LOL I had typed "buttfly" then
corrected it ☺

Judie said...

Lori, not sure if I am going back. Cannot seem to make the final decision but thinking I will give notice this summer.

Well, Margy, the way it works with the basketball players is: they bend down to hug my head and I hug their knees. The player today is hoping to play professionally.

Still raining here.

Hope Lolly's blood work results are good. I'm sure they will be.

Sharon, hope the insurance approval comes through pronto.

Headed to put my feet up. Sandperson is here and wants to get going to beat the traffic.

WHERE IS HODA? I WANT A BROWNIE!

Restful sleep for all.

paula eagleholic said...

Evening, all!

I made a comment last night, but it disappeared! So I'll make it tonight....

I love coming here everyday and reading about what my friends are doing and how their day is doing. I may not comment on everything, but know that I am here!

JudyE -
thanks, but I am really a novice...especially

but don't always SEE what I am

paula eagleholic said...

All caught up on "dandy Lion" origin, wine and bacon sauce! Very interesting reading!

Judie, glad to hear it was a pleasurable semester...probably makes it harder to retire!

Oh, cool JudyE, guess it just didn't show up here....like others that happen every once in awhile.

Cool nest, Judy, no clue what kind of bird...I would venture to guess a sparrow of some sort.

Have my hanging flowers out front, ready for the finch to nest in...if they choose to again.

Carol Anne, nice to have you back!

and Lori, good luck on your interview!

paula eagleholic said...

JudyE, I can't ID many birds either...have to go to the bird book! But I've definitely learned more by being on here!

Good evening,

Watching DWTS...surprised that Derek and Kelly are in jeopardy.

Kathryn came home and told this story, then posted it on FB:

saw something very strange..... this kid came in with his (I assume) mother to leave a car for repairs. She did not really speak English and was having her son help her fill out her paperwork... while he was standing at the counter he reached down to the desk.. opened a plastic storage container pulled out a paper clip... and ATE IT.... People never cease to amaze me!

I have not read back so I will go do so and come back to write some more...

Margy, we have a Niger feeder but the goldfinches seem to prefer the black oil. They seem to have discriminating taste.

Judie, glad your students appreciate you. Best wishes for a relaxing summer.

Sharon, hope you get approval if that'll ease your mind. Hugs & prayers.

Time to say goodnight & God bless.

Hoda said...

Well JUDIE!!! Mrs Robinson and Ben say no Brownies for you!!!
Love you!!!
MARGY asked a good question about being hugged by a tall basket ball player: Lift me up bend down or waist hug? Which was it? If you answer you might get a brownie!!! LOL!!

JO got a Feather YA YAY YAY JO.

PAULA always awesome to know you are here and I love knowing that C/A is here also.

ISS will change commanders this coming week. We in Canada have been very thrilled with Commander Hadfield's stay. He led a sing a long with students yesterday. He answered many students science questions and it is indeed good to have had him make it closer to home.
MARGY I thought of you and PAULA everytime I heard about something else he was doing.
Now I will go catch up on the old thread.

Rode my bike for 2.5 hours today and it was lovely.

Yoga class was terrific.

When does KAY come back from her holidays?

Sorry DIANN I find when I move about I do not get as sore or as fatigued...it creates energy rather!!!

paula eagleholic said...

LOL, Hoda, on the bugs! Well, it's protein.

stronghunter said...

Agreed, Margy.

This was a teenager/young adult. Kathryn was amazed that he reached into a closed container on the desk and took the paper clip.

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like the kids are awake...I hear calls.

paula eagleholic said...

Windy at the nest.

stronghunter said...

Hoda, I have never forgotten about the time I was walking down the street chomping on bubble gum when I suddenly found the gum was very spicy. I had chomped on a wasp.

I guess I was about 12 at the time. Yuck.

Hoda said...

I will check out the recipes JO on the Dandelion. The leaf looks like a lions teeth is what I meant to add yesterday...
Nelson is a spray free zone so any of the dandelions here are good.

Well I put away all of my winter clothes 83 today and continues to promise the same for the rest of the week. I took off one blanket off the bed also so will have to see how that goes this evening.

Tomorrow yoga and then I will volunteer at the advanced polls as they start tomorrow. For the next four days we have advanced polls. I will have to go vote first...bike ride in the morning. I cooked rice today but I have to do something about protein as injesting insects is not a sufficient in take I would rather think not!!!

Glad those three women were rescued!

Eating a plastic paper clip???Not much nutritien there I would think not!!! I can see why KATHRYN would want to report on this odd indeed SHIRLEY.

stronghunter said...

Paula, my flower pots are hanging out there, too. I've gotten nests from time to time as well.

Hoda said...

Yes I see that windy at the nest!

stronghunter said...

I don't think it was a plastic paper clip, Hoda. I believe it was metal.

Hoda said...

Wasp??? WASP you say???
OH ME OH MY!!!
SHIRLEY!!! Poor twelve year old you!!!

Hoda said...

I tell you maybe the kid should try some whiskey or gin to disolve metal paper clip!!! LOL!!!Oh Me Oh MY!!!
I hate to think what his insides must be going through!!! YIKES!!!

stronghunter said...

There was a time I stole paper clips, but I did not eat them.

When I was a new teacher, the school would not give us any paper clips, but the secretaries used to have open containers of them on the counters in the office. I would go down and sneak a handful from time to time. Probably the greatest larceny I have ever engaged in.

stronghunter said...

Hoda, I learned to chew with my mouth closed.

Lynne2 said...

OK people, listen up.

BUGS, especially WASPS, and paper clips are NOT for eating.

Lynne2 said...

really, I can't leave you all alone for a minute....

Lynne2 said...

Amid all of the terrible news that we are bombarded with each day, I was thrilled beyond words to hear that the three women held hostage for so many years are free at last. Along with a child, no less.

I'll not think of the bastards who did this, or speculate further on why I have seen cadaver dogs on scene for now. I will pray for these young ladies who are back in the arms of their loving families!

And I must say...America's new hero, Charles Ramsey...isn't he quite the character!

Lynne2 said...

Good night, prayers for all.

Lolly said...

I have been gone all day and now I return to reports of paper clips, wasps, and bugs being ingested. Good grief!!! I think Hoda's special brownies would be much better!

Oh, I am sure my blood work will be fine. It was routine and will find out in a few days. Have been eating very healthy and walking so all should be good!

Worked in the yard all afternoon and into the evening, a gorgeous day. So very nice to enjoy the temp!

stronghunter said...

Just watched Charles Ramsey being interviewed, Lynne. He is really a character. Loved listening to him.

Good Wednesday morning my eagle friends. Another one hour fog delay for me this morning. Usually the call comes at about 5:15am but this morning, I was already up and taking Bella out to pee when the phone rang. By the time I would fall back to sleep, it would be almost time to wake up. Oh well, it still makes for a shorter work day so it's all good!

Sandi said...

Would not care to eat dandelions, wasps, bugs, or paper clips (metal or plastic)! EWWWWWWW!!

I think Kay will be home today.

Diann and CarolAnne, it's so great to see you on the blog!

Sharon, I hope you get the insurance approval for the MRI quickly!

Both eaglets are awake and scrounging for some protein to eat.

Prayers for all the needs on our blog. Make it a great day!

i have to say, i've never had the urge to eat any thing odd and to the best of my knowledge, have never consciously eaten an insect, although i have read that we have all eaten them...but i shall not elaborate on that...! :( just dont' wanna think about it!

yesterday was a good day, just a busy tuesday. the week is moving along so quickly, it is now mid week, again! soon may will be half over!

i am looking forward to our camping trip next week! this weekend i will try to complete packing the camper, although most of it is done. but i will wash linens, etc.

i think i need a few days away......unfortunately, i don't think there is wireless internet at the campsite, i will have to use my phone to try to keep up with you folks....but a few days from the normal routine will be lovely!

have a superb day. light, love, hugs and smiles to all! holding you close in my heart!

Jo, have fun with Kristen and the grandkids.

Safe travels for Kay.

So, I have procrastinated long enough and now must begin calculating grades. Ugh! Wonder if eating paper clips would help? Um, no, I think not. Would rather have MD crab cakes (:

Another dreary day here. Hope the sun shows up.
