Oh, golly--there's a raccoon running around on the roof above me. Can't believe it's out and about now! The sun's nearly up!

SPLIT - and Best Wishes for a Good Day, Every One

Ms Bookworm said...

Gosh--I did the split, even at my age, and survived!LOL

Ms Bookworm said...

Oh, my--guess I need to venture forth and turn off the porch lights, and the kitchen night light. Back in a few seconds. (You'd be surprised at how fast I can move with bees in the house!)

Ms Bookworm said...

Ahhh--back again, with coffee. I may survive!

My friend Sandy goes today for an MRI of her brain to make sure cancer has not metastasized there and to the oncologist this afternoon.

keeping my prayer fingers crossed for your friend Sandy...

Justin has a nonossifying fibroma. I am one grateful soul this morning. This is a benign tumor that will eventually go away. It will probably grow as Justin grows and when he stops growing, it will disappear. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.

Judie said...

Good morning to everyone.

So much going on with bears and bees and raccoons and hawks. I live a boring life.

Lily updates: One of Dot's cubs may have been injured by a car. Dr. Lynn says they tried to find the bear but couldn't.

I would love to see a bear in our yard but would be very scared. Bees, no thanks.

Sorry Judy & Janet's mom's house did not sell. Hopefully soon it will.

Shirley, enjoy the visit with Virginia inside or outside.

Loretta, so happy you had a nice day with Sherry.

Sharon, hope you all get a Justin update very quickly.

Congrats to Lolly and Jack for accomplishing so much for Joseph and Jacob. I know they are happy.

Ms Bookworm said...

I'll be hoping and praying that Sandy gets a good report, Sharon.
(((HUGS)))!! Gosh, sure makes my problems seem less important. God bless her!

Lolly said...

Good morning! Just read my late last night post. I think I must have been half asleep!!!LOL If you can understand it, you are better than me.

Out to mow shortly!

Andy...so sorry about the bees. Your house is attractive to all kinds of creatures!!

Ms Bookworm said...

Sharon, that's a wonderful report on Justin! God is indeed good all the time!

JudyEddy said...

ANDY be careful there may be something wrong with the Racoon to be out during the day

Judie said...

Sharon, wishing the best possible results for Sandy.

Typing is not so easy now. Will go in search of more coffee and newspaper. Will call today to arrange for first therapy.

Margy, sure seriously hoping you get some Swingin' Bridge time this weekend.

Wanda, sounds as if GG is doing a little better. I'm sure you did, but if not, maybe ask about the possibility of depression as a med side effect.

Have a good morning all.

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Lolly!
I'm afraid I've inherited the "critter" gene from my maternal grandmother. She had gazillions of assorted birds and animals in her yard, and every possible injured or lost creature on the face of the earth eventually found its way straight to her!

magpie said...

Judie
You could hire someone to do your keyboarding for you, or get one of those voice machiens ☺

Sharon: Okay, score one in the GOOD Column for Justin....and hope that more good news come along like that

Ms Bookworm said...

JudyE, you're right about the raccoon. I'll be extra careful.
With all that's going on around here, nothing would surprise me.

magpie said...

Lolly
I think I understood your other post....I read "Jack," and "accomplishment..." and those kinds of positive things

Judie said...

Doing a Margy.

Sharon, good news about Justin. What a relief.

Andy, please take care with those bees. So very sorry about the inconvenience and expense. I think last year it was a rat?

Each summer we can have "Andy's Scariest Adventure" week.

Lori O. said...

Good Morning All!

Mom and SIL just left. That was hard to say goodbye. We had such a great time. Total bandana count is 74 - amazing.

We went out to dinner last night at Carabas, then another trip to JoAnn's to find thread to match my laundry room curtains that my Mom wanted to shorten.

ANDY, so sorry about the bees. After so many attacks and multiple stings in my life, I would have been at the hotel with Emma, too!

LOLLY, did you get pics of Jack's handiwork at Laurels?

JUDIE, so sorry about the rotator cuff injury. How did you do it? That's a lot of PT!

WANDA, there's always time to workk on the Clothes Closet. It's such a great project.

Is PAULA at the beach this weekend?

I think I'm going to plan a trip to Deep Creek Lake for next weekend. Anyone been there?

LINDA, so glad to see you back on. You were missed so much!

magpie said...

So just call the Eagles in and we'll forget all about anything

magpie said...

Lori!
I can tell you that Lynne2 and Steve have been to Deep Creek, so you will get ALL the information you need....and I think
Christie and Shannon have been there....in the Winter ! ☺

Ms Bookworm said...

That's one of the many reasons why we can't let Emma out in the yard by herself. Oh--I heard on the news that a couple of women on the bike/hiker river trails in our vicinity have been bitten by coyotes. The durn critters are getting rather bold! Lots of hikers are carrying golf clubs with them!

magpie said...

I better get [back] to work...

Take Care, Everyone

Linda said...

Good Morning and thank you for the welcome back comments!

Any and all are welcome to come up and stay for a while. We can do some BEAR WATCHING!

Judie - I used to be petrified of these bears, but once you learn they are just looking for food and they are not aggressive at all, you start to keep your cool!! I don't freak out, but I certainly respect their size and might!!

Shar - So relieved on Justin's report. I know you are, too!!

Lolly said...

Lori, yes I got pictures. Will download them later today. Posted pictures on fb with my iphone, but they do not show the shelves and desk.

Lori O. said...

Hi MARGY! Thanks for the info about Lynne and Steve. I will await their Deep Creek tips!

SHARON, so, so happy about Justin! Amen!

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Judie,

So sorry you have that bum shoulder to deal with! Prayers that the PT will be super effective! Yes, last year it was rats in the attic. They are still there this year, too. At least I think it's rats. Hope it's not raccoons!!! Perish the thought!

Lori, so glad you had such a good time with your Mom & SIL. Wonderful memories!--and 74 bandanas? Simply amazing! Ooh--that's right! You were attacked by a swarm of bees in the yard. Was that last year?

Lori O. said...

ANDY, yes the bee attack was last year, and there were two others in years before. They petrify me!

Ms Bookworm said...

No wonder, Lori! I've only had a few single stings in my life, and the last was in the mid-1960s. Can't imagine having a whole swarm after you! I'd be petrified, too!

Linda said...

Andy - I think the bees are chasing you out of your home. Might be time to think about Texas!!!

I don't know how you can even deal with that.

Speaking of nests.....

We have so many around this place!! We have a robin nest on the railing just outside the sunroom. We have another robin's nest in the tree on the far side of the driveway who is now on her second clutch.

We had a robin's nest in the burn pile that Dennis moved after the four babies fledged.

We have a pileated woodpecker nest in a tree in the backyard. You can hear the babies when you get under the tree. Now I know why that darn woodpecker was literally making sawdust under the tree a couple months ago!!

We have a junko nest in the front hanging flower basket. Not producing too many flowers anymore, but three nice little eggs!!

We have a phoebe nest just above the door on top of the flood lights where we grill. Can't use the lights. The poop droppings from that nest are amazing!!!

We have Hairy Woodpecker fledglings feeding on the railing with their parents who are smaller than them!! The larger babies sit on the rail and wait for the parent to get food from the suet. Then the parent comes to the rail and feeds the baby.

Same thing with the nut hatches. One will come to the suet and there are about five walking around the tree closest to the house. The mom gets some suet and brings it back and feeds the babies.

And now we have Rose Breasted Grossbeaks feeding their young ones at the feeders. The Dad seems to feed more. The baby waits on the railing while Dad gets the food. He goes to the railing and feeds the baby.

It is all so beautiful to watch. I could sit and watch all this activity all day!!

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, I'm expecting the Critter Guy to call before too long. Better go make sure I'm presentable, and check to see if there are any more bees in my hair!
(Hope not!) BBIALW.... Hope everyone has a fantastic Red Friday--including our Red!

Linda said...

Can't stay............we have to go get Dennis' glasses this morning and do some shopping. Ugh!

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Stay away from those bees, Andy!

Are you sure Emma is okay?? Would hate to see a bee get in there and sting her.

Also happy to hear kubby is doing better and able to get back to work.

Love you all.......

Ms Bookworm said...

Don't worry, Linda. Emma is in our bedroom, in her crate, with the door closed. Will feed her shortly, and take her out FRONT to go potty, if the coast is clear. Must check for baby herons and 4-footed critters first, of course.
LOL--at this point, I guess I'd better check for Bigfoot activity, too!

Linda said...

Andy I will keep the BEARS here.

You can keep the BEES there!!

We have lots of bees outside pollenating, but I would NOT want them in my attic or anywhere near ME!!

Bless you.......

BREAKING NEWS: An alert has been issued for the North Eastern coast of the United States for all citizens to be on the lookout for a woman known only as Hoda the Amazing. She was last seen skulking around a public library in CT. Attempts to determine the purpose of her skulking have failed to produce information. Officials are also investigating what appears to be a gathering of unusual boats off the coast of Maine. Marine warnings have been posted. If you hear or see anything about this woman, please notify EagletMomsters immediately. No reward is being offered.

Good Morning - the blog has some good good reading this morning. I am waiting for my 2 daughters to arrive - I is so
hot out I hope they have an air conditioned restaurant in mind.
I have been out to put feed and water for my critters. Linda you have such an abundant count of different birds. I know Paula has a nest in a hanging basket - I am waiting to find out what bird it is that has hatched.

Judie said...

Headed to check email Judy.

Ms Bookworm said...

Oh, for Pete's sake! I think there might be a bee stuck in our smoke alarm--it's doing one quick chirp every few minutes. (It has a 10-year battery in it, and is less than a year old.) Still haven't heard from the Critter Guy. It's 8:00 am here, so he's NOT getting here earlier than scheduled! Grrrrr! Maybe the smoke alarm is chirping because I'M doing a slow burn!

Mema Jo said...

Our heat index today in these parts is 105 degrees and could hit 115.

Lori, I haven't been up to Deep Creek in a couple of years. Kids and I used to go to one of the State Parks & rented cabins mainly in the winter time. One suggestion is that Dutch's in Frederick opened a new restaurant up there - it is called Silver Tree. Give it a look on Google - Where are you staying? Enjoy the lake and scenery - you may even get to see a bear or two! lol

Sandi said...

Good late morning all! Played tennis from 7:45 - 10 to avoid the heat! When I got up at 6:15 I remembered that I hadn't made dog food last night (played Life with the kids for 3 hours instead), so I had to do that before the dogs could eat, then rush to eat breakfast and get out the door with my racquet. Good decision b/c it is ♫ HOT, HOT, HOT ♫ out there now!!

Andy, what a giant PIA you are dealing with - bees are far worse than swarms of stink bugs!!

Linda, welcome back to the blog, girl - we have missed you!!

Sharon, what wonderful news about Justin!! Thank God!

Judie, a large cottage on the water - sounds worth waiting for! We had been in our house for 28 years, and had raised our 2 kids in it, and both sons and Dennis are packrats. Dennis lost his job the first week of June in 2006 (we knew it was coming about 2 weeks before that). The house went on the market on June 21st, sold on June 27th, and we moved on July 24th. Talk about quickly disposing of accumulated stuff!! And, our house at the beach was already furnished so we had to get rid of furniture as well!! It was a banner year for the Good Will, that's for sure!!

My sister, brother-in-law, and the kids are off to the water park today. I would go and watch (I'm not a waterslide person) but the park charges you whether you get wet or just watch - I'm not paying $12 to watch! I'll wait for the photos from Mitch! Think Mom and I will enjoy the quiet today and stick our noses in books!

Have a good day, my eagle friends!

Ms Bookworm said...

Okay, Momsters. Need some quick advice. Went into the hall to check on the smoke alarm, and got buzzed by a bee. The hall, which goes almost the full length of the house, is completely dark, and so is the living room. I have all the shutters there closed, and the TV and lights all turned off. It's sealed up like a tomb. The only light is from the kitchen window and the patio slider in the dining room, both at the west end of the house. I need to feed Emma, but must mix up her food in the kitchen. If you were me, would you take her out on a leash and feed her on the front porch? I can then hurry her back to our bedroom to her crate, after she goes potty. There is still a bee loose in our bedroom somewhere. I'm hoping it will eventually go to the window, where I can whack it with a fly swatter. Golly, Texas is starting to sound really good right about now, even with triple-digit temperatures. I could run, and not look back!

Ms Bookworm said...

...I'd much rather deal with armadillos, Lolly!

Morning all.

going to be hot here again today. I promised myself I would defrost the freezer on a hot day so all of the stuffis in the sink in the utility room and I am lettingit defrost its self.

Andy, beware of racoons--they found two rabid ones here in my little town recently. Bees are better? And there was a bear sighting down the street last month. I guess I live in the PA Wilds!

Linda, I want to come to your house to sit in your backyard to watch birds all day !!

Wanda, my Mom was given meds to increase her appetite--would you believe anti-depressants?

After intense investigation, to include inquiries made by the RCMP and Interpol, the offer of a reward has been received for the identification and apprehension of the Canadian woman seen skulking in a CT library and rumored to be the instigator of the gathering of unusual boats near the Maine coastline. As the woman is NOT believed to be armed or dangerous, the reward offered is an eagle feather. How the eagle feather was obtained will remain a secret of a confidential informant.

Ms Bookworm said...

Love your news update, Judie! Too funny!

JudyE, fantastic job of putting Judie's news flash into newspaper format!! Gold star effort!

Well, the bee guys have been here for a little over an hour. The guy in charge says our bees in the house are a minor number--he's seen over 1,000 bees flying around inside a house before! Yikes!! He got up on a ladder and checked out the living room/attic situation, and there were a bunch of dead bees up there in the lighting shelf, and about 8 or 10 still alive. He sprayed them. The spray they use is pyrethrin. He also made several small nail holes in the living room wall and ceiling, and sprayed in those, too. Since they've been here, only 2 live bees have shown up--in the kitchen and dining room. They head toward the light. ("Go ahead, little bees, go toward the light! Find the rainbow bridge--please!") They promise they will get the entire hive, and give us a written 6-month guarantee of no recurrence. They will seal everything up so bees can't get back in. By the way, he says that although these bees are a bit agressive, they do NOT appear to be Africanized. That's really good news! Update will follow....

JudyEddy said...

I still can't get the live cam and I am still trying anyone else having issue ok I guess I will go find something constructive to do

My delete I didn't finish reading seeing they weren't Africanized.bees

Ms Bookworm said...

JudyE, he said that they were acting more agressive because they had already made honeycombs--Africanized bees would have gone after everyone in a really nasty swarm, and they don't give up!

Ms Bookworm said...

Gonna go check and see how the guys are doing. BRB...

UPDATE: They've removed about 20 pounds of honeycomb from our house!
Filled a 13-gallon kitchen trash bag! Now they'll do repairs and put fine metal mesh so bees and rats can't get in there. There are a few bees flying around outside. The bee guy says those are the ones that got left outside yesterday when he sprayed and sealed up the hive entrance. They aren't being agressive, and should die before too long. I wish he hadn't had to kill them. They had done some hard work on that hive!
The official guess is that they were in there about 3 weeks to a month. He's had to remove up to 200 pounds of hive from a roof before!!!

stronghunter said...

Oh my, Andy. I did some research. Sometimes they have to take out sections of a wall and you then have to get it repaired.

JudyEddy said...

ANDY that a lot of bees and honeycomb and I just put one more wanted pic of HODA on the Mis blog it is one to where she is dressed in disguise as a male I have been bored waiting for Jordyn to wake up and went on the pic sites that I use to do with Jordyn pic and there are new ones out there its tooo funny

JudyEddy said...

Carls dad as a business
The Bug Man and his firm kills bees
Carls step brother worked for them but then went to another co that doesn't kill them He is into saving the honey bee

Ms Bookworm said...

Shirley, one of the reasons I picked this company is that all their people have at least 3 years experience doing construction work. They will make the roof and eave repairs themselves, before they leave.

JudyE, these guys usually save the bees, but due to where they were located, it was too risky to try to vacuum them up alive. The whole bunch could have ended up in the house! If the bees are in a swarm on a tree or plant or auto, or something, then they can save them.
Considering that probably 30 or 40 bees ended up in our house, it's OK with me that they didn't save them. Too bad--since they had to spray the honeycomb to kill the bees, it's no longer edible. What a shame! Sure looked good!

Ms Bookworm said...

Oh, they did have to peel back some of our roof to get at the hive. They will repair it. Guess that's why it's so darn expensive!

Been sorting through papers and pictures given to me about 30 years ago. Most has little meaning for me. Uundated pictures of unidentified people I believe were family members. Clothing indicates some are as far back as early 1900s. Keep wondering why I have kept them and why I would continue to keep them.

Judie said...

Oh, I know what to do. I'll take them all to an antique store and then someone can buy them and create a whole entire family with everyone having a name and a story of his/her own.

The bee guys are done! They did a good job of putting everything back together, and closed everything up so neither bees nor rats should be able to get in. They did give me a written 6-month guarantee. He said if I see a LOT more than just a few bees outside, to call immediately, and he'll come and re-check everything. The part I liked best was that he said, "God bless you, AND your house" before he left. Very polite young guys. I would recommend them! (Oh--he also said that if he hadn't sprayed the bees in the wall last night, I would have at least 50 bees flying in the house right now!)

Ms Bookworm said...

Judie, that's a good idea! Take all the unwanted pictures to an antique dealer. There's a hot market for really old pictures out there! Note to every Momster: Don't forget to write who, what, and when on the back of your pictures so later generations will know what's up!

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, have really enjoyed spending most of the day with you pals, but gotta try to get my Walmart shopping done. Leaving Emma in the bedroom so she doesn't get into trouble trying to catch stray bees. Will take her for a walk when I get home, for being such a good girl! Will be back here later tonight. Thanks for getting me through the bee crisis!! I LOVE us!!!

MS. BOOKWORM; your bee story is amazing. scary amazing. i think i would have been quite unnerved.

JUDIE: the APB for HODA was quite amusing! :)

its been another hot dry day here. no rain in sight.

good news on the cat front: they can find nothing wrong with chelsea's cat! everything seems to have stemmed from stress. she bought a plug in cat destresser....feliway. it has pheremones in it to put the cat in chill out land. wasn't cheap, but if it will calm her down....she is out and about now, and eating and acting more normally.

still waiting on a closing date for this house though!

so it looks to be a long dry weekend. hot too. hope everyone is taking precautions in this weather.... lots of water and gatorade.

all right, have a great evening!

Hello- Just a head's up for those in our area, severe storms possible tonite, and then worse tomorrow afternoon/evening. I got this from Foot's Forecast, they have Fb page, they are usually pretty spot on for predictions in our area.
Foot's Forecast
'3:10 PM 6/29 (Forecasters Jason & Foot) Ready for some story relief from this heat? A "Derecho" may be coming to town Saturday evening, and it could get really nasty. Remember the storms of July 25, 2010? Hurricane force wind gusts of 80-90 mph ripped power away from hundreds of thousands in the DC and Baltimore metro areas, striking Montgomery and PG counties paricularly hard.
A look back from NWS Sterling http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/lwx/events/squall_line_20100725/

Similarities between that event and present day include wind shear, instability and surface temperature. The system that will be responsible for fueling this event looks is barely noticeable on radar in the Western Great Lakes area, but by Saturday afternoon you'll notice it! Sterling NWS has stated: "A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EPISODE IS EXPECTED ON SATURDAY ACROSS THE AREA. STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND VERY LARGE HAIL." Additional details here:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html

Our Severe Weather Team is preparing a decision support graphic for those in event planning, outdoor activities and public safety for posting later this afternoon.'

So heads up if you have outdoor plans for tomorrow afternoon, and any things outside that you might want to secure, hoping this will change but last year it was a wicked storm and this looks like it could also be. Be safe!

I have had an awesome day. Hope and Carol and I went shopping and my oh my is it a Super large store with a variety of choices. Windsor is very pretty with a lot of trees. I cooked supper and was great to go out to the garden for ingredients. Carol's and Dave' dog Zach is adorable and he follows me around and gets in under my feet hoping for scraps to fall off ! He is a terrier. We went to Starbucks and looked at family pictures. I hope you all had a great day also.

grannyblt said...

Lolly---Honeycomb--was that Jimmy Rogers?

I'm off to sleep in the cool basement. Storms went south of us--we sure need the rain....

SED to all...

CarolAnne said...

Lolly - it is called Feliway and comes in plug in diffusers or spray. We get it from a PetCo store (or their online site). Most bigger pet stores carry it.

We just spray it in areas that she tends to offend in. Sometimes right on the object or just low to the floor, sort of like air freshener. Its a small bottle and very expensive, but in our case definitely does the trick.

Jo, thank you for the Hoda update. Glad she's having a good time.

Shirley, I had strawberries and cream. Watermelon and ice cream also very good. Headed south to your place.

Been a long day. Rather depressing to look at "family" and not have a clue who they were. Plan to contact FL Dept. of Vital Records to see if I can fill in some blanks. Also will look for information about the military place in WV.
