Hoda, do not overlook Judie's questions on the other side of the split.

Hoda said...

Thanks SHIRLEY.

JUDIE as to the Sandperson My Nelson abode is going to be OK while I am gone and no need for him to stop there...I phoned the detachment to tell them to keep and eye on it and the neighbours know I will be gone so they will do the same.
YES I would like the sandperson to follow me around...27th Spokane, 28,29,30 Windsor Connecticut. 1St to the 9th West Sumner Maine and the 10th in Spokane...it is the only chance I will have to get some shut eye...when I am excited I forget to eat and sleep!!!I eat all the wrong things and become too hyper to sleep...

Tomorrow I will go get some of Uncle Sam's bills...Dragon boat first and then coffee with the team and then to the bank when it opens up...

Lolly said...

Hoda...Shirley...we held dinner but you never showed!!! Sadly, we cleaned up the dinner all by ourselves.

After dinner we tried to sit out by the pond, but it is just too hot. We are now back in watching the ball game.

Lolly said...

Hoda, have you ever told us how you ended up in Nelson?

stronghunter said...

Oh, sorry Lolly.

I am hearing the rumble of thunder here.

Kathryn is out with friends. I sent Hunter up to get into his pajamas. I expected to have to go up and remind him to get in bed, but it is very quiet up there.

Going to check the weather forecast.

stronghunter said...

Occasional thunderstorms are to begin at 10:00 PM. Well, maybe it is a little ahead of schedule out there.

stronghunter said...

Oh yes, it is showing on the weather map. We can use some rain.

Hoda said...

LOLLY...Thanks I imagined being at your table and the food was delicious...

Nelson? Well when I retired I wanted to come to British Columbia. Truth be told I wanted to come to British COlumbia when I first immigrated to Canada...Québec was multicultural and full of adventure when I went up North. Jobs were available and I knew that I had a good education and I was so fortunate to have been accepted as an immigrant I wanted to have a job and pay my own bills and contribute tot he country which accepted me.
Alberta happened because I was living with a Helicopter pilot and his job transferred him to Alberta...I remembered the Colorado Rockies and thought Alberta would be Canada's answer to Colorado...it felt to me that I always needed to reinvent my self on the work field and I always went to summer school to stay ahead of the game, I certified in areas where there were shortages...Alberta was the land of plenty and again I learnt a lot from there as my salary allowed me to travel around the world.
Jobs have always been very hard to find in British Columbia...too many of us want to live here. So when I retired I moved to this province. I lived in three communities in the Kootenays but they did not have all of what Nelson has...the opportunities here are amazing and while it is more expensive than other places in the Kootenay region it is well worth it. I feel I am learning and growing here and I am involved with the community and I have many years left in me to contribute to the country which accepted me...so I live in Nelson and I feel blessed. As a retired person I am still useful and I am still active and I am aware of my potential and how much more I can grow...so aging for me is a return to my joy and enthusiasm for the potential of my being...It is small enough that it is comfortable...we dropped from 10 thousand to 9700 people and mostly people are courteous and it is a safe community with many services...even the homeless have an association and have a bi monthly access to a meeting room with coffee and cookies served!!! They get access to the library and computer services. I like that. International connections to the world and a College and Learning in Retirement association also...I had better stop...this will give you an idea as to why I came here.

Lolly said...

Joseph is at his basketball camp. He left yesterday and will not be home until Sunday. He is in a dorm at North Texas. About 11 last night, Laurel was in bed, reading and about to turn out the light when the phone rang. Hi Mommy....it was Joseph. Joe, his friend and room mate has a cell phone. She told him to get to bed!! LOL

Lolly said...

Thank you, Hoda. Very interesting, now how did you end up in Canada? You came the the USA first, right?

Lolly said...

I do think you are blessed to live in Nelson, but then Nelson is blessed to have you!!!

stronghunter said...

So very interesting, Hoda.

Hmm, cell phones at camp. When I was a counselor at girl scout camp, the kids were not supposed to call home, as I recall. It was discouraged because it was thought calling would make them more homesick.

I think they might have been led to believe that there were no phones to be had. Not sure--been so long, but I seem to remember a story about a kid hearing a phone ring and figuring there was one around.

I guess that has changed now.

I was still hunting for a teaching job and I remember my eventual employer saying he had trouble reaching me.

stronghunter said...

Oh, a helicopter pilot. Very interesting indeed.

stronghunter said...

And I ended up with a government contracts lawyer. Sounds pretty mundane compared to a helicopter pilot.

Lolly said...

I ended up with an aeronautical engineer....still with the guy! LOL

Lolly said...

I am already sleepy this evening. Think the sun took it out of me today.

No problem with Joseph calling home. That boy does not get homesick. He is such a go getter!

stronghunter said...

Well, I was a camp counselor back in the Dark Ages.

stronghunter said...

I heard a noise upstairs. Turns out, as I had suspected, he was watching TV in his mother's room. Let him stay up until 10, then said he had to go to bed, but then had go go up and chase him out of Kathryn's bed. He was pretty good-natured about it. Kathryn would rather not come home and find him sleeping in her bed.

stronghunter said...

We spent a fair amount of time at Wegmans this afternoon. Got myself tired just walking around. When we found out that Kathryn was not going to be home for dinner, we just ate at Wegmans.

Hoda said...

This is a great story about Joseph phoning home and LAUREL reaction was priceless...He is strong this Joseph of yours LOLLY Blessed Be, Blessed Be...

Hoda said...

Up North where it is isolated the experience of living with a helicopter pilot seemed like part of the adventure...so here was this woman from Egypt dealing with dog teams and skidoos and no roads and at one point a house with no running water or electricity and I survived it all and learnt from it too...it was rugged but it was a challenge I wanted to face. The helicopter pilot worked in these conditions and mind set...things fell apart and I could no deal with the frequent camp travel that he had to do and the magic of it all disappeared and I got to see him as an over rated taxi driver in the long and short of it!!!I have real issues with a relationship that is not built on trust and when the trust got tested and eventually betrayed I knew I needed out...So enough down memory lane for one night I would say...

NatureNut said...

Good Evening Eaglebuds!!
When I got home about 7:30ish, some ugly dark clouds were a little behind our house and moving down the hill from N to S.As I was carrying my stuff in, it was really windy & the tomato plant blew over! No harm. We picked the ripe one this AM. Might get split tomorrow!
At Chelsea farm office today, we had a period of thunder and lightning round 3PM & say through the window a tiny fawn flying out of the tall grassy field! Poor baby. It probably was snoozing under the holly tree out there. It headed for the woodsy side of field. More than an hour later saw adult Ms. Hoppy doe at edge of field. She seemed to be looking around and headed in the direction the fawn had run. Maybe that was her fawn. Somehow, they seem to get together late in day.
The 3 mos. old upstairs TV will not get thru to channels, so have to descend to use the rec. room one. Think someone pushed a wrong remote button or something. Duh.
Gotta call TX.
If I konk out, Pleasant Feather Dreams and Good Health Prayers for ALL ;>)

Yes Hoda I want to hear how you ended up in Canada too...very interesting about Nelson and why you picked it...and yes we are never to old and can still contribute...love your thoughts on giving back to the country that accepted you...my favorite saying is "You learn something new everyday" I love to learn new things...

stronghunter said...

Getting ready to head upstairs. I will see you tomorrow.

Hoda said...

LOLLY and PAULA yes I arrived to the USA first. Both times I arrived on a student visa. After I left the first time I had to spend two years in Egypt before I could apply to re-enter the USA. That was after my AFS year. The second time I arrived on a student visa to go to College/ University...I graduated with my BA and started on my Masters program. Visa requirements got in the way and I had to exit for again two years...so I applied to immigrate to Canada as the wars and the political situation were not good in Egypt. Six months later they accepted me and the rest of the story is history...I applied for immigration from Up State New York and I left from Denver Colorado as I was in University there...Greeley actually is the school I was attending. As a Canadian landed immigrant I could enter the USA when ever I wanted and when I became a citizen the same all I had to show was my Canadian Citizenship card...so I started to pay my bills and continued my contact with Mom and Dad and my American Family and they continued to be my North American home...simple really...

Hoda said...

I am blessed with my family and friends and I know gratitude for my life

stronghunter said...

Was watching a program on immigration the other day. A lot was said about Canada and good choices being made about immigration there.

I was upset that we lost a very good math teacher in Culpeper because she was a Canadian citizen and had to return to Canada. We really needed her.

Sad that many talented, capable people can't stay here. People with college degrees they earned here.

stronghunter said...

Now I must go to bed.

Interesting conversations on here tonight, indeed!
Loved HODA'S story about the Helicopter pilot:)

JUDY'S visit with her sister was so very special and I loved the pictures!
JUDY...thank you so very much for the eagle beads, they will make really pretty earrings~

GG was not any better today. Wouldn't eat anything and slept most of the time we were all there. We have an appointment to see her Geriatric Specialist on Wednesday. Will seek a second opinion from him~

I was so hoping we would have heard from her (personally)

stronghunter said...

Snoring cat on my chair with me. Good that I bought such a big recliner. Plenty of room for George and me.

The chair was built for a large man. I have had so much furniture break down that I went for the sturdiest stuff I could find. Have a little trouble touching the floor with my feet when sitting up, so I just keep it in the reclining position.

The furniture is getting a workout now. More of a workout than I expected.

Costume Lady said...

I guess it's my turn to go to bed Goodnight to all. Prayers and blessing for fams

Hoda said...

Prayers for GG WANDA...second opinions are good. Maybe it will take a while for the higher dosage to get out of her system???

SHIRLEY There are so many who are trying to make a life for themselves in the USA. You can not accept everyone. When I came to understand this is when I came to understand that those of you who are born there won the lottery big time when you were born...Not to be taken for granted and must always appreciate it...

Ms Bookworm said...

Good Evening, Everyone!

...and since it's already Saturday back east,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CAROL MICK!! Have a wonderful day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SHAR'S ANDREW, TOO!

Hoda, yours is a fascinating story!
You ought to write a book sometime--I think it would do well. You have led such an interesting life!

Hoping to hear an update on Kay, and on GG this weekend. Hoping that Kay's pain is lessened with each day, and hope that GG will improve each day too. Prayers for both!

Golly, that's some weather you are having back east! I hope it won't be too terribly muggy this summer.

Ken is feeling a little bit better tonight. He was miserable at times today, though. His big toe is still red and inflamed looking, but doesn't hurt. His elbow is another story, though. Right where his "funny bone" is, there is an area the size of a softball that is swollen and red, and it feels hot to the touch. At times it would feel much better, but then something would set it off, and it would be throbbing. He's stopped taking the statin drug for cholesterol (the Dr. has him taking 8 times the dosage I'm taking!), and I suspect it will take a day or two for it to work its way out of his system. He's taking the Apple Cider stuff, and it seems to be working, but just not as fast as it did for me. He's taking ibuprofen, too. Guess it's just a matter of time. He did stay home from work today--using a computer mouse was just too painful, and he spends a large percentage of his workday on the computer.

Gosh, it's been a rough day for the baby herons here. A bunch of them fell out of their nests, and were killed when they hit the ground. I did not enjoy having to go pick them up and dispose of their poor broken bodies. Hoping that the rest of them manage to survive. Still picking up dead fish and crab claws, too. Smells like a not-so-good fish market around here!

Hoda said...

"You learn something new every day" this is such a good saying PAULA. It resonates and it can be made into our reality...Yes indeed!!!

Ms Bookworm said...

Oops--gotta give Ken more ibuprofen. BBIAM....

Hoda said...

ANDY so glad KEN decided to stay home and take a rest...I hope the measures he is taking continue to help him to heal...PRAYERS...

Hoda said...

So very sorry about the baby herons ANDY...that would have been hard to pick them up one by one!!! OH MY!!!

Hoda said...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SHAR'S ANDREW. Blessed be, blessed be

Ms Bookworm said...

Oh, I see I missed a GG update. So sorry she was not improved today!
Praying that the problem is due to a medication, and a relatively simple fix. A second opinion is always good! Prayers continue!!

Well, better hit the hay. Still need to catch up on sleep! Have said prayers for everyone, and for every creature. The porch light is on, and both security systems are enabled. Sweet dreams, everyone.
God bless, and goodnight. Love all of you!

Busy day today - lots of company headed this way (once the fog clears), but Eagle friends are never far from my thoughts.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone. HODA You often share such words of wisdom for the USA. I think many of us who live here really can't see the forest for the trees. I agree to have been born here is to have one the lottery. Now to spend our time building our country wisely along all lines is the key. It's not an easy thing to do. Happy Birthday to Andrew Off to coffee and dog treats. Busy days continue for a while. In fact I doubt I will get on here next mon thru Wed but that camera will be busy. I will have to make a Glo's Glimpses when they leave so those not on facebook can see the photos. HAGD everyone.

Good morning.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SHARON'S ANDREW. Wishing all of you a wonderful family weekend.

Wanda, I sure wish the report on GG had been better but a second opinion from her geriatric specialist is good.

Andy, sorry Ken is still having the gout reactions. Darth takes Endocin and it helps but does affect the stomach. Very sad about the baby herons. I'm sorry you had to experience that.

Hoda, there is no end to your "Amazing" stories. Absolutely fascinating.

Paula has arrived safely in paradise. Enjoy.

Loretta, we have a crippled doe who brings her fawn(s) around sometimes. Cute story and glad the baby was okay.

JudyE & Janet liked the pictures on FB of you and the rest of the family.

Wanda--hoping for the best for GG. I know what you are going through with the non eating issue. Hope the doctor's visit will help.

Wish we had some rain here but at least the TX like days are past.

I really need to shampoo the carpet in the living room...the winter's dog prints have refused to magically disappear.

Hoda - you have added so much to our blog with your philosophies of life. You go Dragon Lady. Nelson is fortunate to have you as a resident!

I am wishing for a few words from Kay today. I am sure she is healing and keeping busy with her rehab activities. Praying that the pain is minimum.

Thanks Margy for your words for Michael HE JUST CALLED - sitting on the plane in Newark DE and getting ready for take off. Everything went well with his boarding. Laurel thought about it, she was not ready to have one, nothing was marked, she had no change. She threw stuff out anyway for a few hours and made $45. Enough to buy paint for Jacob's room. I just tried to call her and she is too busy. Wow! She is selling toys the boys no longer play with. Joseph will be moving into the playroom and Jacob into Joseph's room. I am getting on line now to order new Dallas Cowboy bedding for Jacob and his new room. Joseph already has NY Giants bedding.
