Friday

I'm up in CT and just looked at the cam. We have replaced the video card, thus the more reliable signal. I was worried about the flapping I saw, thought it was tape. I called the NCTC, and they told me they had seen it too and had headed out with a spotting scope. One of the eagles was on top the camera flapping in the wind to dry out. And a piece of tape is now loose. Keith is working to get the tree folks back up ASAP.

More later.

New thread.

Mits, I learned my lesson the hard way...tried and true for special occasions!! It was always much easier when Mom (and grandma) were around to help the novice...but can count on one hand the number of times mom has come for the holidays since she moved from Annandale in '89 (the year Grams passed), first to FL and now MO...and the girls don't have much time to help me get ready. But they DO do the last minute stuff, like stirring gravy and getting the meal on the table, AND they do the clean-up!

If our birds came, I missed them!
Finally posted pic of last night's moon. A little distorted. Later there were lots of clouds & couldn't see it at all.
Instead of wrapping & cards, I ended up decorating---but not tree yet!Not sure how we'll handle 2 cats!Last year, Fubby didn't want to put it up, but I had to have Something. So I only put longer branches on the top & made the "Felice Navidad" palm tree!

Lynn we leave on the 20th. Yep Amtrak Out to Chicago and then North Dakota and I have to look at the rest. I keep forgetting.
I like duck also. I think most people do not like goose and duck because they have dark meat.
Lynn I am only decorating a little and cannot find some of the things I want.

Loretta, when we had our dogs all special ornaments went to the top of the tree or else a wagging tail would knock them off.

ceil said...

No birds tonight Loretta. Not sure if the gun fire kept them away. It was loud. You know LIb and Belle are smart

Hello my buddies of the evening!

Glad you found your tree skirt...
I am trying to find one of my special red bows! I don't want to dig through all the boxes so I may just go buy one..

We returned from Mass and ate dinner here at the house. Guess What I Am Going To Do - get my cards finished. I told hubby NOT to call me when the Christmas movie came on this evening.

2 of my gals are doing Christmas baking together next Friday! And I must tell Paula that they are making
BUCKEYES !

With so many here on Christmas Eve - we have to do a buffet. Last year we actually did Italian with lasagna, salad & bread & it went over really big. There were other finger foods around & a favorite Crab Spread with Bread was brought by a daughter. We just haven't had a big sit down dinner in quite a few years & it is due to not all arriving at any set time. We sure do have a great time!

hedgie said...

I don't have the girls on Eve anymore...too busy with their own families now, so old traditions have gone by the wayside. Bill and I have steamed shrimp for dinner and then he goes to spend the evening w/ his kids and grands.

Just put tonight's moon on blog. It's rounder (used a different setting) & found a spot w/fewer tree branches.

Jo, I have rationalized that mail pickup isn't til Monday, so can procrastinate a little longer!!☺
Re: cooking---I tried a duck one New Years & when putting in oven, it's little stumpy legs were facing me & I pictured those little orange webbed feet. Brought tears to my eyes. Never got another one!(It was tasty, tho)
When we had our dogs, always had to keep ornaments away from tail wags, but they don't climb trees like cats.
Funny story---When cat, Binky, was six mos. old, she had a cube to play in w/one big round hole. She never went in it much, but stole things & put them in there.Noticed Xmas tree had been tampered with---she put ornaments in her cube!

Funny, Loretta!!!!! I don't have any pet stories about the tree....wagging tails have done minor damage, but no big problems! Of course, I've never had cats inside!

Moon IS perfect from what I can see....lots of branches/limbs in the way! Shining bright in the office window, tho'. It looks very cold.

Mema Jo said...

Oh Hedgie - thanks for reminding me of the steamed shrimp... One of the gals will bring them I'm sure!

We have an early 4:00 Mass and then are all at the house by 6:00 eating.
Since none of them are any farther then an hour's drive from their homes, it doesn't prevent them from having their family time. Still working out well.

I'm going to try to go over to Shepherdstown around 10am & see Megan at Market - check out the wreaths. Aaron said he would tag along with me - then maybe we can visit Betty's for brunch... Be great if the weather tomorrow is like it was today.

deb said...

I just got moved into a winter weather warning, but that is still better than the blizzard warning. 1-3" of snow with winds 30-40 mph. Blizzard areas are 6-10" of snow with stronger winds. I might not get to go and check out the swan tomorrow.

Mits said...

batten down the hatches, Deb.....oh boy Jo, Betty's, get some bacon:)

Mema Jo said...

Deb I'm sure your boots and shovel is right by the door. I wonder where the cats will go........ lol

Someone is out on the porch but they can't get out there right now.

The cats haven't been back in a long time, not sure what scared them away, but I am happy they are gone.

I am still hoping the weather people are wrong and I won't get anything.

They are closing the interstate already in western SD, not going to have hundreds of stranded vehicles for this storm.

OH, cool, see you tomorrow then...
Sunday's market weather- Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

I would imagine, having experienced other Winters there, You are ready for whatever comes your way:) Be safe and keep warm.

Jo, Lasagna and Salad sound wonderful for Christmas buffet.
We usually have a buffet of picnic fare. Sandwiches, potato salad, fruit salad, bbq shrimp. The only thing that gets cooked is the shrimp and Capt. Gene does that. A GOOD DAY FOR ME;)

Lolly said...

Better late than never! Jack and I were busy today hunting down our new laptop. Have not found it yet! This evening I started wrapping Christmas presents. Only have a few to go. I have to get this done so I can go away with Michael to NYC. :)

We had a windy day today, but not cold. High in the 60's and tomorrow high in the 70's. Will be thinking of you Deb. They said winter will return tomorrow night, but no freezing temps.

Saw where you were talking about Christmas dinners. Have always had turkey, never a goose or a duck.

One year Jack and I were looking at slides. We had a flashlight with a pointer so you could point at things on the slide. He started wiggling it around and Fu, our cat started chasing it. Fu hit the screen for the slides, it fell over onto the Christmas tree knocking it over. It was like slow motion...the glass spire on the top on the tree crashed into a billion pieces as it hit the top of the slide projector.

Tomorrow church and more wrapping of presents.

Nite all....sweet dreams! God bless you all.

Costume Lady said...

Loretta, my Mom used to have a kitten (a stray that she took in after my Dad died) and he would creep ever so slowly to her Christmas tree and then snatch her sparkly tassels and run like the wind! Then he would go behind the bedroom door and play with them.
She really loved that cat.

Lynn, Helen and Ceil...get well:):):)

Megan, I'd love to skip church tomorrow and come see your beautiful handiwork...we'll think on it. Hope you go home empty handed:)

Oh, Lolly, in case you don't know, the Rockettes put on a fabulous Christmas show! So excited for you!
Nite, Nite.

Lolly said...

Looks like we have reservations for dinner Friday nite, then go to see Spamalot. Saturday we have reservations for the Christmas Spectacular and we will have dinner after the show. It is shaping up. I chose Spamalot as I think Michael will enjoy it the best.

Wow, lots to comment on!

First off, I thought the day was great when I won the tickets for my son...well the day got better. Mom is doing MUCH BETTER! She ate lunch and dinner, no nausea or anything else. Everything else checked out OK. Stayed for a long visit. She's on the mend!

Duck and Goose - I love them both, cuz I love the dark meat! Have made only duck though, Mom made the goose. We have it at Easter. We have a standing Rib Roast for Christmas.

Oh my, pet stories and the tree. I was wondering why I kept finding candy wrappers on the floor...Boo was picking the candy canes off the tree and eating them! Then, you'll never believe what he did last year...the worst ever...you know what male dogs do to trees! Yes, he lifted his leg on the tree!! I caught him before he did too much damage! I was ROFLMAO.

Loved everyone's food and pet stories from today.

Have a good night and great morning...I'm gonna try and sleep in!

Night all!

Yea Paula! So happy that your Mother is doing so much better. Prayers that she continues to do so.

Christmas dinners for us has been different throughout the years. For us it will be ham.
Tree stories when we had the cat. When she was a kitten she climbed the tree. Funny never ruined any ornaments. Grown she always loved laying under the tree. Her special hiding place. Like you can't see me. We always laughed so much because you could see her.

No he didn't .... Good Morning Wanda.

I'm going to send out the pic I took of the two in the nest this AM. So everyone can get an eagle fix through Eaglet_Momsters. I'll send a second one to you Wanda so you will be able to open that one.

Costume Lady said...

Costume Lady said...

Thanks Dana, I was watching the last few minutes of the visit, but couldn't get 'puter to TYPE!

wvgal_dana said...

Yes I do...I think they gave us ALL they could give. I know some wanted it turned some more towards left (counter clockwise) but they couldn't do that. I am so glad we have such GREAT people that work on this nest and cam.

Costume Lady said...

That was a great experience...working along with them. As some said, where else could you find workers who would allow the bloggers to tell them what to do? And then listen and do it?! It was a good day.

Costume Lady said...

Thanks for the photo, Dana. I did manage to get a few. Just caught the last few minutes. It is always so good to start the day with a visit from them.
Going for coffee now. BBL
