Now that Nestcapades have begun in earnest I'm offering up this primer on how eagles mate, how fertilization takes place, etc.. This info matches that of the NBG commentors which is repeated over and over again through the season. Seems many people think there is penetration, but NOT !

YEP i got a video and I am uploading it right now I had just turned off the camera to start another short one I try to keep about 5-6 min although I got a message from Youtube I cam start doing 15min one now but like to keep short so I am putting it on now I did get it right from the beginning and will let you all know when it is on It is 145 long

JUDY, I think HP is seen frequently at all nests where there are cams. When there are wide views available there is even more seen because most eagles have a Lover's Branch, using it more often than the nest.

Kay, thanks for the info on mating. Speaking of NBG, the eagles there lay their eggs earlier than here, wonder why they don't have the cam turned on for everyone yet. The guy at Blackwater said they're expecting eggs within the next week or two. They're closing off one area as of Monday b/c of an active nest.
The video is done and I put it on Facebook with a copy and paste but not ready for the blog yet it is uploaded and not copy and pasted on it so should be soon

I agree, SANDI. I'm wondering why the NBG cam isn't up yet. Perhaps with a young, new female it will take a little longer. If so, the staff may not be witnessing enough nest prep or HP to feel the time is nigh.

Kay---warning about grilled PB&J---jelly is VERY hot!!!! But yes, fix it the same way as cheese. Just don't go too heavy on the PB&J or it will be oozing out with every bite!

Walked past the computer to see both eagles in the nest! Next thing I knew, Shep was flapping his wings and trying to mount Belle again!! After a few seconds, he stopped. Right now they are beaking and fighting over a stick! Both standing on the rails at about 6.

Lynne2, you mentioned taking a walk at Loch Raven today. Where do you live? We lived in Perry Hall for 30 years before moving to the beach and I was born and raised in the Essex Middle River area.

Thanks to JUDYE, I got to see the HP between our Royal Pair. Didn't seem as though it was exactly right, but, at least he got the right end:)
Looks like it is GOOD BYE to the beautiful weather we have had the past two days. I wasn't able to get outdoors Friday, but yesterday was a great day to clean the leaves from the back of the house. Don't know what we'd do without a blower. I have a small rake that allows me to get into spaces that need the leaves loosened up so that the blower can do its job. That was easy for me...no stress on my knee...not so for the back:)
Surely I got my daily dose of Vitamin D! Doctor said I was very deficient in 'D' and has me on 50,000 units caps. Have no idea why I would be deficient in any vitamin...I eat well and take a multi-vitamin and calcium with vit. D. Seems you can't get it right all the time!
Must get ready for church...

Wanda......I hope that high a dose of D is only for a 6 week period. That's the ONLY recommendation for taking that much.

I was exhausted last night LYNN...I slept straight through...I think I am fighting off an infection...many people around me coughing and wheezing...the technicien at the mammogram facility also had a cold and I am sure I got it from there...I had a good and sound sleep. I feel much better.

Late night post from Robyn---I misunderstood about the comment of Tori crying when she heard her dad's voice: he isn't there yet.
"Ok going to get some sleep she is already telling the nurses no by shaking her head lol. I am 1 floor down from tori. On Monday her dad will be here and Tuesday my mom and dad will be arriving... Night"
Glad to hear that Bobbi and Ted are coming up.....locals, we must try to get with them while they are here and treat them to a lunch.

Adam just came back from camping with the scouts and has a tick on his arm. Thing is it's embedded, but it appears to be dead. You would think I could easily pull it out but it's not coming out. I'm afraid to pull it out and have the head left behind!!
