Well, Megan, if we all could unload what we've got and pool our $$, we could probably swing it!! I was just looking at properties on the Outer Banks a little while ago....found one in Candy's community and everytime I tried to click on the photo, I froze up!
Tuesday update from Atlanta...they have a pic too....
Tuesday, February 24 There's really no reason being the world's cutest panda cub shouldn't work out for Xi Lan, but if it doesn't at least we now know that walking the highwire is not in his future.
My pancakes will be for tomorrow.... Can't eat meat and must fast for Ash Wed! Sooooooo yummy yummy I'll fill up my tummy with pancakes (usually its pizza or toasted cheese and tomato soup.
Daughter was here all morning visiting! Helped me with some chores! I so enjoy her (or any of them)when they visit. No ggbaby yet - May not be much longer!
They just showed the bucket and the guy tearing down the nest on the news....the text, which I'm sure was supplied by F&W, said "How do you tear down an eagle's nest? First you check to make sure there's no eggs and then..that's how you do it" showwing the guy w/ a rake or whatever tearing the nest apart. No doubt in my mind was just their way of getting around the egg issue and not admitting anything that would stir up the controversy.
Jo, tomorrow IS Ash Weds.!!! Hey, Red, it's not bad in a pinch...it would be different if I was cooking for the family..but for just me? Naw....can works!
It is Ash Wed tomorrow and I will not be able to eat meat and I must fast to 1 full meal SOooooooooooooooo I will eat a lot today - (not a sausage person) so I'll stick with Pancakes tomorrow dinner. I had my Kinklings today! WHoo Hoo!
I guess what I am saying is that I don't know why you all aren't eating STEAK today and just plain ole' pancakes tomorrow on Ash Wed. After all these years you all are confusing me and my ways! lol ((hugs))
To sum up those requirements, Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent.
Fasting as explained by the U.S. bishops means partaking of only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another full meal) is permitted at breakfast and around midday or in the evening—depending on when a person chooses to eat the main or full meal.
Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, milk products or condiments made of animal fat.
Historically this is the day for Christians to obtain absolution before Lent begins with its fasting and prayer and giving up of fat and eggs.
This is why pancakes play such a big role today. In past years Christians, mostly Catholic Christians, would have to use up their rich foods such as butter, dairy, oil and eggs before Ash Wednesday and so used these items to make pancakes That must have been before my time:)
It was a different wonderful time for sure I grew up in Massachusetts..along with a couple others on this blog...well anyway. MA is a very Catholic state. My best friend to this very day is a very devout Catholic. We have known each other since we were 3 and 4 old enough to talk and walk over the stone wall...and in school we started the day with Bible reading followed by the Lords prayer. A handful of us said an extra sentence or two at the end while most of the class sat there quietly with their heads bowed. Then on Fridays you could always count on the school lunch being Mac and cheese and fish sticks. Not just during Lent but every Friday.
I never felt like I was being forced to live or undergo some sort of religious whatever that was a violation of church and state. I don't think those who sat there quietly while a few others finished the Lords prayer as they had been taught felt that way either.
I think we were taught to respect each other as well as the value of faith. We were sure politically incorrect. What an awesome way to grow up and attend school
I may be going to hell in a handbasket...I had ham hocks with cabbage, potatoes and carrots. Pray for me. Oh, I forgot, I'm not Catholic...I like their different rituals throughout the year. Teaches disipline. I will go to service at my church tomorrow night and confess that I had a bad, bad meal and get some ashes on my forehead. Hope that will take care of it:)
Customs and celebrations In other parts of the world, Shrove Tuesday is marked by quite different celebrations. In New Orleans, for example, it's celebrated with the Mardi Gras, and in Rio de Janeiro with the equally raucous carnival.
Other old customs include the annual pancake grease at London's Westminster school (schoolboys fighting for pancakes in return for a monetary reward); Mischief Night (breaking into people's houses in disguise and demanding pancakes); Lent Crocking or Lensharding (throwing old crockery at people's doors and asking for pancakes to be tossed back), and shroving - a visiting custom in which children sang or recited poetry in exchange for food or money.
I think I have finally recovered from my 18 hour shift over the weekend. Just in time to get ready to go to work tonight:).
Enjoy your time at Mardi Gras...I am sure you are all hoping to see/hear the preacher man again LOL.
Keep an eye peeled out in CA though I think WE and or PH have good things instore anytime now. Oh and of course Blackwater just might be "hearing things". I surely wish they had a live cam but they do have an awesome cam and web master/mistress anyway.
We have some beautiful rituals too, like the washing of feet. Shows humbleness. We also wear lace prayer hats...but I haven't worn one in years. Told you I'm bad!
I'm Catholic, but don't go to church, or follow any practices....I just love pancakes...sounded like a good dinner to me.
My Dad came from Massachusetts also, yes, lots of Catholics there....parent went to church faithfully until we all had our first communion...after that, they sort of drifted away from church. My parents did follow the no meat on Fridays for the longest time, though. I love meatless meals, can eat potatoes and pasta anytime, anywhere.
There are occasions where I do still observe the faith, too.
that was the sun paper article from this a.m., but the video was taking after that article, but I don't believes that there was no egg in there like Jose said....I'm mad at them:(, and don't have alot of trust in what they have said...wish someone would buy our new president a watch, so he could be on time:)
A single bald eagle egg was lost today when a federal biologist dismantled a nest close to the runway at Glenn L. Martin State Airport in Middle River.
The eagles' movements had become a hazard to aircraft operations. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Craig Koppie scaled the 80-foot oak but said he could not get close enough to see the egg until the nest fell.
The shell will be tested for thickness and contaminants. The birds are expected to move quickly to another nest site and lay more eggs.
"I'm more at ease knowing this pair will be away from the runway," he said.
Well that sucks if it's true. They said no egg on that first news story. What a shame, not a very well though out plan, in my opinion. They should have gotten rid of that nest completely last year, if it needed to be done, when it wasn't occupied.
you know the very LEAST they could have done was put the egg in the so called nearby nest if there was such a thing to begin with....if someone had gone to the nest last night to rescue the egg, would they have been arrested for tampering with an eagle nest???
yes, I have cam duty, then the big meeting about when we will start the 24/7 pregnancy watch...will be a late night tomorrow night, thank heavens I don't have trail shift tomorrow
just panda cams in the panda house room, occasionally I try to sneak the red pandas on, but the best cam to see them was turned off, the other cams are in another building. Panda cams are manned fro 7 to 7, the other cams are when people can do them
Just getting settled back in with 330 miles behind me. I was just watching the video clip of Luney that you were talking about earlier. I was grunting as much as he was trying to NOT fall from getting into the hammock!
I had a fabulous time, thanks. So nice to see family...my sister and brother-in-law in Annandale treat my like royalty when I am there. Sister in Baltimore, has been in poor health for years, so we like to team-tag on that visit. Paula, I have a nephew at Mount Saint Mary's - on his way to becoming a priest....he tried to call on cell phone tonight and he lost service about five times in rapid succession! It was funny, one question at a time, and he was gone!
Megan My brother-in-law, semi-retired, has a porch converted into a a greenhouse! He has lots of sprouts growing, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, eggplant, carrots, and lots of nice spices, rosemary sage, parsley, garlic. I thought of you, but it is a teeny tiny one.!

Also, Deb, real glad to hear of your uncle's progress, hope the wheelchair solution is found soon! Sounds like there are creative minds in your family that will take care of this...♥
Whew! that was a lot of reading! Very interesting things, sorrowful about the nest near Martin Airport, they just sort of snuck that information in about the lone egg. Not Nice! Poor planning.
Glad to get all the Lent news, got a refresher at my sister's today too, know about those two little meals and one regular meals, and nothing in between. I have ten minutes to fasting time!
Belle has not budged a feather since I have been watching...
Hope all sleep sweetly tonight. Peace, Love and Prayers xo ♥

Hi Wanda it is nice to be able to be on again. Was on a little at a time. Last Monday got the Cold in Sinus...kicked me eyes and head. No tv and no computer...haven't even gone out. Yesterday started feeling better. Maybe by Monday will be out again.
You all have a WONDERFUL time as I know you will at NCTC. If I could have gone. I'd be in your RV ( :
Red except for that one time with having trouble 2 IWS sites up. I've had no problems. Now I just have to figure out what happen with whichever player. I was always able to click on panda video's from Atlanta. Now I click and nothing happens...no video. Unless someone give me an idea. Seems time always figures it out.
Wanda I would get on computer for just a little while then turn it off. Could only do a little due to it made eyes and head hurt too badly. It was enough to keep me up. Read where CO had their 3rd egg on 24th....yeaaaaaa

They just showed the bucket and the guy tearing down the nest on the news....the text, which I'm sure was supplied by F&W, said "How do you tear down an eagle's nest? Maybe they shouldn't have built a runway so close to the Chesapeake.
Egg roll
Jo, tomorrow IS Ash Weds.!!!
Hey, Red, it's not bad in a pinch...it would be different if I was cooking for the family..but for just me? Naw....can works!

BWE update........
Nest Update
02/24/09:
We believe our PC issue has been fixed.
At this point, we're anxiously awaiting the hatching, which could start around February 27.
After all these years you all are confusing me and my ways! lol ((hugs))
think we are both past that age where we have to fast now, Jo aren't we? Are do you still follow the rules:)?
We would know for sure if it showed it's tail! I think raccoon too
Guess just because around here, it's always pancakes on Shrove Tues., Jo!!!! Creatures of habit!
LOL, Mits....bet it's instant pots, too, isn't it?

I kind of enjoy the meatless Fridays.
Your food restrictions are confusing me too....
its part of Shrove Tuesday, Jo...something we grew up with...Ceil was going to a church tonight for their pancake supper
you bet, Lynn, stick those puppies in the micro-wave....slop some butter on them, carb-city:)
much simpler than in the old days:)
I'm with you Megan. I would need a manual.
Guess I'd better clean up the kitchen now that I have a full tummy!
its easy if you have done it as long as we have, second nature:)
Fat Tuesday, or Shrove...

earthcam .com must have a lot of viewers, Bourbon Street keeps cutting in and out.
Well no matter what - I sure hope the Pearly Gates open really wide for me! lol
I guess I am a creature of habit, Mits.
Or else Hubby is!! Meatless Fridays & Holidays is our thing.
my in-laws always did meatless Fridays, even after they said we could have meat on Fridays, except during lent.
Got the NO cam open & there is our
empty balcony waiting for us again tonight. Took a while but it finally opened.

the lent crocking, cracked me up:)
I'd like to throw some crockery at the door of the guy who took down the nest today:)
roflmbo...your a shoe-in, Wanda:)
I think I have finally recovered from my 18 hour shift over the weekend. Just in time to get ready to go to work tonight:).

I like customs and traditions, and like to learn what other peoples customs are.....
yes, Lisa is the best:)
I'm sure the preacher man will be there:)
We have some beautiful rituals too, like the washing of feet. Shows humbleness. We also wear lace prayer hats...but I haven't worn one in years. Told you I'm bad!
we used to have to wear coverings over our head too, but that was long ago....just heard jubby come into garage...off to do the pancakes:)
NCIS is coming on soon. Look really good tonight...not a re-run:)
Lynn, I like your idea of pooling our money and buying Megans Dream Property. Probably eagles on that property! No pandas, Sissy & Sharon:(
off to watch NCIS, thank you Mr Pres for having your speech later:)
There are occasions where I do still observe the faith, too.
BTW, I didn't watch Mits' video of the nest tear down, but apparently there was an egg in the nest
Baltimore Sun Article
The link has the WJZ video also...
NCIS over...kind of strange...and now time for O-blah-ma.
that was the sun paper article from this a.m., but the video was taking after that article, but I don't believes that there was no egg in there like Jose said....I'm mad at them:(, and don't have alot of trust in what they have said...wish someone would buy our new president a watch, so he could be on time:)
Mits, it was a new article
A single bald eagle egg was lost today when a federal biologist dismantled a nest close to the runway at Glenn L. Martin State Airport in Middle River.
The eagles' movements had become a hazard to aircraft operations. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Craig Koppie scaled the 80-foot oak but said he could not get close enough to see the egg until the nest fell.
The shell will be tested for thickness and contaminants. The birds are expected to move quickly to another nest site and lay more eggs.
"I'm more at ease knowing this pair will be away from the runway," he said.
yes he is late, isn't he.
And then he's on tomorrow night or the next night too.
ok, have not seen that one yet...that is a shame...and no animal activists around...wonder why?
Wonder where the Audabon Society was????
Sp.?? Audobon ??
Hey folks, better pay attention out there
We're Being Watched!
They didn't say when it was going to be dismantled in the first article..not that I could see.
good question, Lynn
lol.....Paula, that is so funny:)
Well that sucks if it's true. They said no egg on that first news story. What a shame, not a very well though out plan, in my opinion. They should have gotten rid of that nest completely last year, if it needed to be done, when it wasn't occupied.
Audubon Society....had to look it up myself!
Paula they dismantled it at 11 this a.m....I put a video of it on the blog earlier
And what a shame if they are going to cut down the oak tree..
Yup, saw the video too. Such a shame.
they are fish and wildlife, so I'm assuming they know what they are doing, guess they had to go public with some kind of story.
Did anyone see the big black trash bag in the OK nest?
no, Paula
raccoon at Pix
you know the very LEAST they could have done was put the egg in the so called nearby nest if there was such a thing to begin with....if someone had gone to the nest last night to rescue the egg, would they have been arrested for tampering with an eagle nest???
ok that was weird, was just surfing around the net, some voice came on, sounded like an eastern european accent....maybe it was the sea otter...;)
Cute otter article!! Thanks for the correct spelling!
I knew it didn't look right!
The sea otter had an eastern european accent??
His was the only pic I had up...maybe it was a terriost....
Mits, when do you go back to the zoo? Tomorrow?

You all have a WONDERFUL time as I know you will at NCTC. If I could have gone. I'd be in your RV ( :

Now I just have to figure out what happen with whichever player. I was always able to click on panda video's from Atlanta. Now I click and nothing happens...no video. Unless someone give me an idea. Seems time always figures it out.
Dana, you might need to reinstall QuickTime.
You can download and install it here. Just pick the one without iTunes and uncheck the two checked boxes.
Quicktime for Windows
Wanda I would get on computer for just a little while then turn it off. Could only do a little due to it made eyes and head hurt too badly. It was enough to keep me up.

People talking on the Maine Cam. I wonder if they are there to look at the tree damage.
Now it is quiet there. I heard one man say, "Oh yeah......, definitely." Couldn't understand the middle.
yes, just checked and it is quiet, there except for the crows:) it amazes me that a white pine withstands the winds up there.
