Oops--bringing this over:

Hi, Gang,
Checking in to see what's happening.
Went to get some breakfast earlier, and never made it back here. Lots of cleanup in the kitchen, then lots of reading for school. Have a final tonight in Transcription Practice.

Looks like Belle is back on the nest. Maybe she knows more than we do. Praying for a miracle!

Welcome to the newcomers who are here today!

Judie, condolences for the loss of your ancient washer. Mine's currently a Maytag, but the previous one, a Kenmore, was the best ever. Daughter has a front-loader, and it's extremely good. Wish I had one of those, but only if I win the Lottery. Definitely look for one with a ding or scratch--Sears outlet near us has fantastic deals on those. Well, back to studying.... Later, alligators! :o]

Steve- we believe three eggs have now been laid. The last one laid during the snowstorm on Tuesday around 6 pm.

Mema Jo said...

And I'm still digging out! At least it is starting to melt where you clear it off. Thanks Steve.

Jim I've been waiting all morning to hear about a new thread - Thank You!

Laura said...

Someone on the nest finally.

Mits said...

thanks, Jim for the call over....3 eggs, so far

Ms Bookworm said...

Thanks, Steve--

There IS a 3rd egg, but we're pretty sure it's fallen down into the snow that was in the egg cup. Not sure if it would still be viable, but Belle doesn't seem to want to give up on it. Lib, not so much. MTBR...

Laura said...

So does everyone feel the eggs are still good. they spent so much time off of them. Wish some of the snow would melt.

Mits said...

thought this was cute from the Mount Washington Observatory....

Dear helen,

I received a humorous email from an Obs fan today that pretty much sums up the state of Mount Washington’s weather:

"I usually check the weather on the top of Mount Washington to make me feel better about what it’s like in Baltimore. But, today, I think your weather is better than ours. I get the feeling that it will be Easter before I dig out my car.”

The storm that buried this person (and probably most of the rest of you) once again missed the Whites. Such is the theme of this winter so far. December ended .46” below average, January 6.08” below average, and February is already behind by 6.86”.

Thirty-year Obs veteran and current director of summit operations Ken Rancourt recently attempted to raise moral at a staff meeting by pointing out that “in 1988, we got 110.9 inches of snow in April…” Here's hoping for a repeat this year!

The eagles are on the egg well and then off again.
1st egg 2/2 10:15pm
2nd egg 2/6 2:12pm (est time)
3rd egg 2/9 6:00pm (est time)

Mits said...

Laura, my gut feeling is they are not viable, weather has been so severe there in the last week, but never say never...

Lolly said...

I yelled at everyone to come on over!

Thanks Steve!!

Brought this over from the old blog:

Lolly said...
Yea! Sounds like Bev just may be joining us. That is SUPER!

Wanda....I created a blog for Laurel's pics. Will add mine later.

Ms Bookworm said...

I was wondering...you know how people who fall into near-freezing lakes and drown are thawed out, given CPR, and sometimes survive? If the eggs got frozen quickly enough, would they be viable when they thaw? Just a thought.

Lolly said...

Has someone emailed Steve. He asked for an email to update him.

Judie said...

Hi Andy, have a great night at school and with the transcription final. Let us know when you get home.

Steve Chase said...

I used to work up on the Presidential Range, in the winter at times, and have friends that have worked ( and still work) at the Obs. It is a cool place to work, but don't be fooled, even when the wind is howling at 140 mph and it's 30 below, they have extremely nice diggs there...

Mits said...

Andrea, I don't think so...:(

movin said...

Steve, I believe one of the earlier eggs has reappeared out of the snow in the egg cup; so now it appears she has two under her.

C(°ٿ°)D

Jim

floralgirl said...

I'm no expert, but I don't see how they can be viable, especially the first two, which have been buried under snow. The third egg has been uncovered for so long, so many times, seemed doomed when she laid it during a blizzard.

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, gotta go study for tonight's final. BBL....

Mits said...

I watch the Obs cams all the time, love seeing the wind chill there, makes me feel all warm and toasty.

floralgirl said...

I love those cams, too. MIts. I grew up in NH.

movin said...

Close up of ZZ at San Diego.

Jim

Judie said...

Thank you, Steve. Hope you are able to stay warm.

Mits said...

I did not know that, Megan....it is a very interesting site...I have posted its address here before, but know one said if they visited the site or not....

Mits said...

I love the pic, and the stories....

Lolly said...

When we went to Mt. Washington a couple years ago we rode the clog railroad to the top. It was fun!

Mits said...

that's on my bucket list, Lolly...so much to do, so little time left.

bev. said...

I made it here.

Well, my 2 cents say that the last egg may have a chance. It was covered well during the worst of the storm and we watched it being rolled with the nest material. At least I did.

I never underestimate a raptor.
But that being said , the eagles have no way of knowing if they are viable or not. so we may have to wait and see.
and i love seeing them

now how can I get Tea out of my carpet. Just spilled the darn thing

Mema Jo said...

Mits - you talk your jubby into that retirement by showing him your bucket list! Go while the going is good! ♥

Mema Jo said...

BEV - Today'slesson learned:
Don't try to drink tea and blog at the same time!

bev. said...

Yep!!. I get that now LOL

I will have to go and try and get it out

Mema Jo said...

So Mits go ahead and give us the url for the 2nd time of the OBS - Thanks.

Mits said...

well we keep having winters like this, we will never get out to do anything....

naturegirl said...

Good Afternoon everyone....I'm glad to be back for another season...trying to catch up on all that's happened since Lib and Belle's return....jus got the internet back up and running..Hope all goes well for them.

Mema Jo said...

Bev Google or Bing Tea Stains

Costume Lady said...

I was thinking about HUMAN FROZEN EMBRYOS...They get thawed out and develop into babies, so who knows?

PA Nana said...

Hi everyone. Brrrr the wind is still blowing but thank God we still have power.

Opened my email and had 597!!! All comments to the blog were appearing in my email box. Whew! Took a while to delete them and correct my blog status.

bev. I love your avatar. I watch the Peregrines in Harrisburg, PA, and recently got word that the male and female have been spotted in the area. Now waiting for the rest of the story.

Hope you get the tea out of your carpet.

... later

Mits said...

ah, the all too familiar sounds of jets taking off from Reagan Airport..things getting back to normal, I pray.

Costume Lady said...

Lolly, love the boys in the snow photos. How wonderful for them to have snow to play in. At least you know it won't last. (Hope not)

ceil said...

Lisa at BWE doesn't think any of them are viable

bev. said...

Well, now I will pray,
HI PaNana
little dad is back and they have in the nest box and so things look good for a new season.
Not mating ,just in the nest box

My avatar, is my favorite falcon from here in Edmonton Alberta. She got injured and I was invited to the release. she has a transmitter on her back .

I post all the happenings on the BCATW site under Canadian nests

That Belle is a trooper.
Now I will Google and see if I used the right stuff on my stain

Mits said...

well I'm thinking of a couple of years ago, when they were close to hatching and they did not survive, this was earlier in the process, therefore, much more fragile, but that is just my thought process, will leave it up to experts and L&B

bev. said...

I just e-mailed Lisa a bit ago and she said you never know. O f course we do not know and I just keep remembering Maine in 2007 and how long she was away form the eggs and 2 still hatched, even the storm took the young

Mema Jo said...

Welcome back Naturegirl! Almost thought I was seeing NatureNut here again. I am sure with you being in WV
that you have just as much snow as everyone else!

Ceil thanks for that message. I value Lisa's opinion. But I'm still praying
for a miracle - even just one little eaglet, please.

Costume Lady said...

Remember Elizabeth Brown? I think she was the very first frozen embryo go be implanted and given birth to and, as far as I know, she is still living and was a healthy baby.

Mema Jo said...

Yes Bev I was remembering ME nest also.

paula eagleholic said...

Awesome!

did you see Lib fly in from the bottom left?

paula eagleholic said...

big ol fat fish! Yay Lib!

bev. said...

Is this her normal call. What a dad . Bringing her food

Now here is a thought . I wonder if she is going to lay egg #4. this is the same as happened before #3
It is not impossible right??

Mema Jo said...

Must get a few things accomplished today. Mits - I am still holding my valentine cards for all the great grandkids :(

Thanks for the link

BBILW

bev. said...

I am still hopeful.

paula eagleholic said...

Not too many 4 egg clutches.

Mits said...

well the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away....just had some resourceful souls here for the last 90 mintues, clearing off both driveways, and the walkway....

Costume Lady said...

Not impossible, Bev. An eagle pair somewhere in the west...don't remember where produced and I believe fledged 4 eggs:) May have been 2 or 3 years ago. Read it on here somewhere, didn't see them.

Mits said...

OK had the 4 clutch, right?, but did any of them survive?

PA Nana said...

Oops! Was posting on the old blog while trying to catch up. Geez!

Saw/heard Belle call for delivery and Lib obliged. Looks like a big catfish.

I see one egg for sure, but there could be another on the right of it, only buried a bit. She is relentless.
God bless her!

Mema Jo said...

OK SUTTON Had 4 eggs.... Only one I know about.

Costume Lady said...

Has Belle always laid 3 eggs?

paula eagleholic said...

I thought Elizabeth Brown was the first invitro to come to full term. Not a frozen embryo, but I could be wrong.

Steve, did you get all the info?

The second egg that disappeared last Sunday has reappeared in the egg cup.

paula eagleholic said...

OK only hatched 2 of the 4

Belle has had 3 eggs every year that the cam has been online, 2006 to 2010

Costume Lady said...

This is not the one I was referring to but, interesting:

thanks for being so hospitable

glad some of you are getting help digging out. We have groups here that will help(volunteer groups)

On July 25, 1978, Louise Joy Brown, the world's first successful "test-tube" baby was born in Great Britain. Though the technology that made her conception possible was heralded as a triumph in medicine and science, it also caused many to consider the possibilities of future ill-use.

stronghunter said...

Back from doctor's. Roads are passable, some more passable than others.

We had a little excitement on our journey. I stopped at McDonalds to get Hunter some lunch.

There was lots of water dripping from the roof while I was paying and picking up the food. Then all of a sudden a huge load of snow and ice dropped on my hood.

A woman and a child were walking into the restaurant. The look on her face was priceless. I got out of that spot as quickly as I could, then pulled over to check for damage. Everything seems okay.

Dr.'s office said my pulse was a little high. I guess so.

What is being eaten? Is it a bird?

Has someone e-mailed Steve with the egg count.

More food!

Costume Lady said...

Oh, Paula, you could be right about that. That name just popped into my mind when I was thinking about frozen embryos.

paula eagleholic said...

Geesh Lib, you'd think the chicks were about to hatch! Fish #2 is a whopper as well!

bev. said...

Just looked how close Belle was to the edge. Hope she does not drop her parcel Lol

This is too funny. She is not going to share.
she is saying, no incubate, no eat
and Lib off again

paula eagleholic said...

Wanda, look up, Mits just posted the info.

Lolly said...

That is a huge fish! So happy to that in the nest.

Costume Lady said...

Invitro didn't bother me nearly as much as the thought of having an embryo that had been frozen for years, implanted and birthed.

paula eagleholic said...

Temp is finally up to 34° here in Eburg...

Lolly said...

She is tearing into it like she was starving.

Hi y'all. I don't think I'd want to be anywhere near Mt. Washington right now....the coldest place on earth...brrrrr. My family is from that part of New Hampshire and lucky for me, my parents got to Texas and warmer land :)

Looks like Belle is being an awesome mama hanging out on the nest.

Lolly said...

Hi Becky! Snowing hard all day up here in the DFW area. We are up to about 4 inches and still coming down.

Lolly said...

Belle left! Maybe Lib can come eat now. Whoops is that him, or has Belle returned?

paula eagleholic said...

Belle took off to the right, then Lib, i think arrived from the back, now eating

Lolly, wow, that's just the difference of a few hundred miles. It's cold here and nasty rainy, but no snow. Hopefully you don't have to drive anywhere or very far. Of course, snow is a relative novelty to us, so maybe you should be and play in it like your husband said :) Take pictures and post them!

stronghunter said...

Bev, give me a minute. I have to go through the process myself to tell you what to do. Somebody else is welcome to jump in and take over . . .

paula eagleholic said...

Lib is gone

paula eagleholic said...

I think he realized the egg was cold.

stronghunter said...

Please take over, Paula. You are better at this than I am.

paula eagleholic said...

Which doesn't seem to bother Belle...just my thoughts.

Paula, I tried to copy and paste it, but it did not work for me.

paula eagleholic said...

OOops Belle about landed on Lib, she brought back a stick

Lolly said...

My what a messy nest. So, you think that is Lib? I am amazed if you think it is him.

Back from walking in the snow. Wish I had my boys here. I would blast them with snowballs and help them build a snowman. Think I shamed Laurel into going out and playing.

Have lots of pictures but feel foolish to post them. Nothing compared to your snow. However, this much snow for us is so rare and fun! Will let you know when I get them up.

Wanda, you are full of it today!

paula eagleholic said...

Well they both stood there looking at each other, then they both took off

I had a really noisy one here this morning Bob but with the sun and snowblindness, couldn't locate him !

Those rosy house finches are something else too...they really get chirpy come springtime...and the robin! Overwinter or a new spring arrival ?

magpie said...

Oh Paula
Thanks for the Dunedin 3rd hatch news, saw them feeding when you posted that earlier ☺

magpie said...

by the way, just in case no one else did, I emailed Steve that the first 50 or so comments on the new thread had info about the eggs, and cut and pasted Megan's and Jo's posts about it also
sure he was reading that, but just in case not

hedgie said...

I have deleted all pics and documents from my netbook. Also found that my internet favorites DO take up computer space because when deleted they end up in the recyle bin (deleted emails don't!). So I deleted a lot of them, too.

Another Hedgesville Great Grandson story - This time from Joseph age 6.
Phone rang and it was my gd saying that Joseph wanted to talk to me as they had been watching the Live Feed.
'Mema - we just saw your eagle fly into the nest - then he flew out but he is back now and he is eating!' He was so excited. I told him we thought he had a catfish from the river - the river where you and dad go canoeing. Joseph said 'You mean the Potomac?'
Took me for a loop! I promised him that when the snow goes away I would take him down to visit the Sycamore Palace and hope that he could see Lib & Belle. He was there at Open house
but it was that very rainy day and didn't go by the tree.

magpie said...

Love it Jo, keep it coming ♥

going to go add pics now
bbl

hedgie said...

Margy, mighty short off-time for you, kiddo...:( Be very careful in the morning---there will be lots of black ice.

Love your birds, Bob! I haven't seen any recently----even threw bread out this morning---all still there.

paula eagleholic said...

Cool JO.

Lynn- emails don't go to your recycle bin, they go to the deleted folded in your email programs. Your favorites shouldn't be taking up that much space to delete them. Try clearing out all your browsing history instead.

paula eagleholic said...

I don't get too many jays here, but when one showed up at the feeder yesterday, all the other birds scattered!

paula eagleholic said...

And you must have some clean windows, Bob. How is Mrs Bob's toe?

paula eagleholic said...

Margy, I sent Steve the pic of the two eggs that were visible earlier.

ceil said...

Jo that was cute. Hope it clears soon and you can take him.

Okay, I have uploaded a lot of our snow pictures on facebook.
We are up to 6 inches and they said on the news that it will continue for another 8 to 10 hours. It has been above freezing all day,but been snowing since 3 this morning,.

Got a terrible scare today. We took Daisy out for a walk and my neighbors were out and Daisy was goofing and jumping and pulling like crazy playing....and slipped out of her collar. Long story short, she got out to the road and took off. Steve was able to corner her in a neighbors yard and bring her home. I was scared to death. Thank God she got trapped in their yard by snow drifts but he had to tackle her to get her. Thank God thank God thank God they are both OK.

I just posted a bunch of pictures on my blog.

We shoveled for hours. I'm DONE, I don't care what happens from this point on!

Paula, I said that emails don't but favs do. That's why if we log into our email on another puter, our mail is there, but our favs aren't----email is with the email provider; favs are on the installed/used browser, I guess. I delete browsing hx. and cookies every day.

OK Daisy Back to the rubber room with the straight jacket and tranquilizers.

Gosh Lynne gald that story turned out the way it did.

I am back from my own cabin fever cure. I am really cold and actually managed to fall into a snow bank today with my camera and big eagle lens. Neither camera nor lens are weather proof.I wiped it all of and I think its ok. Snow is cold but soft. :-) The best news is I wasn't at all embarassed. I was running to get pictures of the "clicker fish:-) " and well I didnt get any that time but all around me the cameras were going off so no one was watching my graceful moment.

And there sits our Belle. Hmmm Bless her heart I know nothing else to say.

Love the photos Bob Thanks for sharing with us.

Lynne good pictures. Daisy reminds me of my Princess. If she got out the door or yard. Off she would go but the neighbors knew her and would bring her back. Glad all turned out okay.
