Thank you, Steve. TGIF My name is Ceil! Been trying to comment for a couple days & elec. keeps going off, so Good Morning to Everyone before I get knocked off again! ☺ Will get the others~~~~~
While we still have juice, hope all the eggs and eaglets get sat upon big time today!Maybe BW should name the baby Windy!! We only had a few flurries that couldn't land. I have to call work & see if there is elec. DUH Was gonna shampoo, but won't be able to use drier if power goes out again. I can wear my Panda hat!!LOL
I teach A Senior Citizens Sunday School class, and each year we follow these eagles from eggs to fledge. I put pictures up on Power Point for them. They love it.
Has anyone heard from Lynne and why she hasn't been here with us? Hope there was no misunderstanding, we love her! I know I put my foot in my mouth sometimes, hope she is OK!
Lynn-Hedgie sorry about tooth so I've gotten more caught up. Now I know it is not same one you had trouble with before and fixed. So so sorry pinch your arm like Norma said.
Maybe you folks have discussed this------but how do you all feel about the KILLER WHALE that killed the trainer yesterday---Isn't this the 3rd trainer that he has killed!!---FOLKS ARE STILL BUYING TICKETS!!--(or will be)--they said they know 99.9 percent of the time--but this is one of those times we just don't know???---
At gym--talked to former St Police---who used to live up where LYNNE2'S in-laws live---He said one wouldn't believe how much SNOW they have--unless you saw it!!---REMEMBER the paper said they had 200 inches a couple wks ago!!
Lisa......how eggciting a day this is!!!!!!! Have had BW up constantly for three days now! We are sooo ready for this little one to make its appearance.
JUDY.......welcome to the greatest blog ever! So, where do you live? So neat that you share with your senior citizens! Cool! I hope they know our eadgles names. lol
Good morning everyone. I woke up this AM with 8 in of snow...OMGosh! I used birdseed on the shoveled walks, and it worked like a charm on the ice underneath. I am sure I read that suggestion here on this blog...so thank you.
Oops...forgot to tell you...got an email from Lynne. She's okay---just having some trouble with not finding work, so taking on more pet sitting and babysitting jobs. Worrying about U/E running out soon. Just not feeling terribly sociable right now. But she'll be back!!
Megan, was trying to come up with a different name for you and it hit me - blooming idiot! HAHA! Love you. I am also with you on the whale thing. What are they going to do? Punish for acting like a whale? DUH!
I was just reading a story on how skaters don't get dizzy when they spin on the ice...I would be on the floor fast! Did you see the other night the one lady who spun so fast she gave herself a bloody nose? I don't think that's very good for your body.
Good morning! Such excitement with BWE Love it! Hedgie be careful NOT to blow away. GD's 600 lbs chicken coop blew over and is upside down! What a wind out there! Good luck with the tooth.
She didn't even know her nose was bleeding, either! But, she sure did dance beautifully. I don't know how they get their body in those positions! I would break in two!!
Here's a good one---Margy probably got her chuckle for the day. Officer on an unlock call radioed in that he couldn't get it open. Dog in vehicle. Someone coming who will try to "coax" the dog into unlocking it! ROFL!!!
Talk to you all later. I'm almost outta here. Yuck.
We are now in the long waiting period to the hatch. The adult eagles incubate the eggs for about 35 days or so. The eagles are diligently taking care of their two eggs, and fortunately the weather has been relatively fair.
The eagles are keeping the eggs warm with their brood patch, a featherless section of skin filled with blood vessels. The little "dance" they do when going back on the eggs ensures that their brood patch is in contact with the eggs.
Watch for the rolling of the eggs throughout the day, about once an hour. This is done with their talons rolled up to protect the egg, and the rolling action ensures that the embryo does not stick to the eggshell.
We still feel that one egg is likely viable and the other probably is not, but they may surprise us.
Also keep an eye out for live fish being brought in from the Potomac River, which is a few hundred yards down the hill from the nest tree. The fishing on this stretch of river is excellent, and some of the fish brought in are big ones. Big or small, the fish don't last long.
Morning all. Come on little eaglet. Just got an e-mail from the Baltimore Sun. Yesterday a dangerous convict was accidently let out. He was captured in Martinsburg WV. Sorry about that. Send him back
I thought maybe Steve would post your pic on our Daily Blog Paula. I almost lost the P....r this early morning about 3 times in a row. I would move out for the day if it had happened!
Glad you found Lynne for us and will pray for her.
Welcome Judy - very glad you decided to come on in. We have a Judie and sometimes a Judy B.
Do you think it would be too late in the whale's life for him to survive if they would set him free? I'm with you Megan as to my feelings about animals and mammals being used for entertainment.
I have seen the picture of the pipped egg this A.M., and I was just thinking he (I think it's the male now) is setting higher and lighter on the eggs. So the hatching could be well advanced. But they haven't started in on that fish yet....
Judy - I feel for you - you may have checked a box you thought you were supposed to check - but some bad things happen "by default" - my first name showed up here after I got a second google mail account on purpose before I would post here, thinking that would hide my name ... not realizing that by signing up for the account in good faith - by using my real name in the signup process - my first name actually showed up the first time I posted on the blog here, instead of the kickngbird name I gave to the account! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PRIVACY ANY MORE. I mourn its loss! So sorry you've had this problem by dipping your toe in, just wanting to share some of your joy of eagle watching.
Here an egg There an egg Everywhere an Eagle Egg Oh how many eggs we see!
Okay, enough of that! Was "walking" and watching BWE. Saw the switch and then she came back and said "Enough!" And tore into the fish. Yep, now he is out fishing again. Egg was rolled where we could not see the hole and crack.
Jo, I did not think there had been eggs at Hornby, but saw mention of some eggs. Think it was possibly about another nest. Saw eagles there this morning,
Oh yeah, I wanted to tell you all. Tom's mother took a couple of steps the other day. She may be coming home. The insurance is running out and the time has come to either sell the house and pay for nursing home care or bring her home. Tom's sister (who will inherit the house) said she will quit her job and take care of her at home. I think if she could have done that, why has she been in that nursing home in the first place for all this time. But, I am a daughter-in-law, so I am biting my tongue!!
But, anyway, her taking a couple of steps is great!!! Progress not perfection! That is what we are striving for!!
Whoa Paula - I got my birds mixed. I guess I just thought if one species did it so did the other. Now - CO snow is gone from Eagle's nest and Snowflake (female owl) is in the nest box. Blocking view of those 3 eggs that will be removed by Dave.
Hi all y'all. I'm b-a-c-k.....and not happy. Or habby, either!! They didn't do a single thing! Painters were painting office. One "gas" room being painted, and the other one in use for an extended procedure. So now I have to go back EARLY Mon. AM. So have to tolerate for hte weekend, plus get up qand out at a ridiculous time come Mon. Who in the world paints an office during business hours? The fumes were not pleasant. Oh, and my dentist, who is semi-retiring, wasn't there today and won't be until next fri., so I have a new guy.
Hedgie I am sure you are disappointed- Never heard of painting during business hours...the fumes would have made me stay away. Hopefully Monday things will go better!
SeaWorld - Most reporter's questions can't be answered until the situation is evaluated as to what and if any changes will be made.
My hubby is on the phone ordering his brand new Dell computer..... he has been looking them all over & finally made a decision - Maybe I'll get his older one!
Wonder if Steve will uodate the update now that he's seen the latest pics showing only one egg??
Sissy, hoping that all works out for Mrs. Riffe. Understand your frustration with the family dynamics.
Wonder what will happen with Mason once he's home? No long halls to tool the chair through--if they can even get a motorized one approved. My friend Rick was sent home Weds. Insurance wouldn't cover hospital anymore, but not enough improvement to qualify for rehab. Sent home with a bedsore, to boot. Oh, yeah...Winchester is such a GREAT hospital....no better than any others if truth to be known.
Hi, Everyone, Have been trying to get caught up on the blog. Lynn, so sorry about the saga of the dentist! Hope you don't have a headache from the paint. I can't believe they're painting the office during business hours either! Our daughter is allergic to oil-based paint, and if she walked in while they were painting, she'd break out in hives all over! Hope you end up liking your new dentist, too.
About the orca at Sea World--I think they should stop using this particular whale in the shows, and if they can't turn him loose where they caught him in the first place, they should just put him in a huge tank with a couple of his pals, and let him be. They say he's been too long in captivity to release, but it's possible that his old pod of whales might still be in the same area. They ought to do some checking. As far as still doing the whale shows, but keeping the trainers out of the water--what good will that do? The whale grabbed the trainer and dragged her into the water, she wasn't in the water when attacked. Poor whale--it's in trouble for just being an orca! People forget that wild animals will always have the wild instincts they are born with. (JMHO) :o[
Now another thing comes to mind--those whales get to be pretty HUGE. What do they do with them when they have several of them that have reached full size? I wonder just how much swimming space they actually have, and if it's really enough for them. I bet it isn't. Maybe that's why they tend to have some not-so-good days.
Already had a headache just from the sensitivity of the tooth---so don.t know if paint made it owrse, but do know I can still smell it!
Andy, don't know where they captured Telly, (whale's nickname) but sure htere's no way to know where or even IF his pod would be. Sure wouldn't want to see him isolated in a tank, either. Her co-worker said that the trainers' ponytail brushed Telly's face, and he feels that is what triggered the event. Probably a playful gesture that went wrong. But when you see pictures of her laying her head on his face....it's the chance they take when they forget the power of natural instinct.
Off to run a couple of errands. Annie needs litter. Then taking her to have her painted. The last picture is what I am going for! Only kidding!!!!!!!!☺ We are not going to do it, as we can not agree. Jack like the leprechaun on the back end. roflmbo
Lady BW is really sitting high. Come on eaglet!!!
Sissy, so glad there is progress with your MIL. Bless her! Bless you for putting up with and keeping quiet.
Yup, we forget they are wild animals sometimes, and they act like wild animals. I agree Andrea, don't know what staying out of the water will do, she was out of the water.
Sissy - so glad to hear Granny Riffe is coming home. Glad daughter is stepping up.
Ceil, just finished reading papers---nothing about the Baltimore subject arrest! Don't you just love the "released by mistake" stories? Hope heads roll!
Paula and Wanda...that's the ONE thing that has stayed the same-----receptionist has been there for the whole 30-odd years I've been going. So either she FORGOT that I have to have gas, or she didn't know that painters were coming in today, I guess. DUH!
Errands were taken care of and now back home. 41 and misty....just yukky! Wish I could go outside and enjoy the daffodils, but no, just have to look at them from the window. I do have two arrangements inside!
Another exciting time sitting courtside. Beginning to anticipate paparazzi swarming around any day now. Have to share: all the attention is based on athlete's selection as faculty of the year. Sadly, the ladies lost to Richmond.
Lynn, am sorry about the dental appointment confusion. What a mess. Is there any emergency dentist nearby?
Sissy, happy about the progress of Mrs. Riffe.
Mits, many thanks for the SD baby elephant. Just adorable. Didn't know about the herd response to a birth or the long time the babies spend with mom.
Eagerly awaiting the BWE chick.
Welcome Judy to the best blog family ever.
Okay, off to tackle some laundry -- price for goofing off today.
IOC was unhappy the way the Canadian women celebrated after getting their medals, came back on ice with cigars, champagne and beer...hey I would celebrate too, if I won a Gold medal
Yea, they didn't think they should be doing that on the ice...in their rooms would be a different story...or a bar I guess, so long as you didn't let anyone bite your medal...(that's another story!)

I know :( I heard they close I-68 down at the WV - MD border
Oops...forgot to tell you...got an email from Lynne. She's okay---just having some trouble with not finding work, so taking on more pet sitting and babysitting jobs. Worrying about U/E running out soon. Just not feeling terribly sociable right now. But she'll be back!!

Good morning again everyone!!!
I was just reading a story on how skaters don't get dizzy when they spin on the ice...I would be on the floor fast! Did you see the other night the one lady who spun so fast she gave herself a bloody nose? I don't think that's very good for your body.
Good morning! Such excitement with BWE
Love it!
Hedgie be careful NOT to blow away.
GD's 600 lbs chicken coop blew over and is upside down! What a wind out there! Good luck with the tooth.

Wow, we have hatching at BWE??
Hooray!
Just a quick stop. Will catch up later today, I hope.
Off to another basketball game - ladies, this time. My motto: support the wannabe adults in and out of the classroom.
Have a nice day, everyone.
Winter Update #5 - February 25, 2010
We are now in the long waiting period to the hatch. The adult eagles incubate the eggs for about 35 days or so. The eagles are diligently taking care of their two eggs, and fortunately the weather has been relatively fair.

Guess Steve had that already posted before he found out there was just one egg.
But Megan, it is totally out of love! :0)
Welcome, Judy!
I love how that fish at BWE has not been touched...it's just for the hatchling! :)
Morning all. Come on little eaglet.
Just got an e-mail from the Baltimore Sun. Yesterday a dangerous convict was accidently let out. He was captured in Martinsburg WV. Sorry about that.
Send him back

Do you think it would be too late in the whale's life for him to survive if they would set him free? I'm with you Megan as to my feelings about animals and mammals being used for entertainment.
Yes, Paula, that fish is sitting there getting "ripe" for the occasion. Sometimes it just seem LB is just sitting and staring at it.
Lynn....thinking about you! So sorry!
Yes, unfortunately those whales have been held captive too long, they would not survive in the wild.
Both eagles at West End.

(JMHO) :o[
Amen - Andrea!
Taking a break -
BBILW
Now another thing comes to mind--those whales get to be pretty HUGE.
What do they do with them when they have several of them that have reached full size? I wonder just how much swimming space they actually have, and if it's really enough for them. I bet it isn't.
Maybe that's why they tend to have some not-so-good days.
I agree completely Andrea!

WOWSIE CHECK OUT BWE
Where did they go......
Oh My! She's on the eggs - but 2 min is too long to be gone.... Must have been the switch.
Workday done, got a date with my Wii Fit for an hour! BBIALW!!
BWE back on eggs....
Yup, we forget they are wild animals sometimes, and they act like wild animals. I agree Andrea, don't know what staying out of the water will do, she was out of the water.
Sissy - so glad to hear Granny Riffe is coming home. Glad daughter is stepping up.
Have not heard a word from Steve about the one egg...but he was emailing Margy, so maybe she'll hear something.
BABY ELEPHANT BORN AT SD ZOO
So Lynn, why did they schedule an appointment for you today?
Well, Paula that was my question too?? Surely they knew what was going on. Might be time for a new receptionist!
Ceil, just finished reading papers---nothing about the Baltimore subject arrest! Don't you just love the "released by mistake" stories? Hope heads roll!
Lynn, he just got picked up in Martinsburg WVA at a friends house today...
Paula and Wanda...that's the ONE thing that has stayed the same-----receptionist has been there for the whole 30-odd years I've been going. So either she FORGOT that I have to have gas, or she didn't know that painters were coming in today, I guess. DUH!
eagle moving around in different positions BWE
Oh, okay...guess it will be in tomorrows' paper.
Wind has finally died down here. Snow flurries persist off and on.

Great article about the baby elephant. Congrats. to SD again. Neat to have that camping opportunity for folks.
Hi everyone,
Another exciting time sitting courtside.
USA hockey team is beating Finland 6-0
watching the eagle's head at BWE is like watching a tennis match.
its the men's team, if they win, they will be in the gold match Sunday...
Carolina chicklet is 2 weeks old today...really getting big!
Jo, Canada beat the USA women's team for gold yesterday...2-0
Don't think she's listening, Mits! Must still be watching the game :)
that's ok, she will catch up:)
Heading home, see ya on the flip side!
yeah I read about that other story;)
US Hockey playing for gold on Sunday. Sort of a boring game today.
Well I was hoping for an eaglet today. Taking his time. Maybe he know the fish was eaten by Mom.
Vicky said she got a photo of BW chick. Has anyone seen it besides her?
not yet Red, nothing on the BWE site yet.
hope she sent it to Lisa
Go, Team USA!

She sent the photo to Lisa and me. Definately hatched. Not warm in Bama today.
