DAVE I know how you must be feeling as retirement gets nearer. I was going out this Sept., but chose to stay another year. I would love to spend all my free time finding and watching nature. You are lucky that the eagles are so close to you.
RED I have a BIL living in Bon Secure ? Alabama. Was born up north in New York, but his father and relatives came from Alabama. So he went back for a visit and stayed and married. I think that is in southern Alabama. My husbands father used to be a champion oyster opener and alligator wrestler. I'll pass.
WANDA Don't know much more about his life down there. He moved to Florida to work in this restaurant and then came up north to NY with it's owners. It was quite a place in my home town; very fancy and well known around the area; Flo-Jean Restaurant. Everyone called him Alabam instead of his real name of Jim. Never lost his southern accent and was such a kind man. Met his mother once, Fanny Mae, when she came up for a visit. His brother Bic was a character. His southern expressions were so cute. woooweee. On the plane it felt like we were on a cordouroy road when he hit turbulance. He didn't like heights, and he wouldn't go out on our back deck as we were build on the side of a mountain. From our deck we looked straight down to a running brook.
Yes Bon Secour, Al is almost on the Gulf, just a few miles north of Gulf Shores, Al. Gulf Shores is known for its clean pure white sand beaches. I was in that area a couple of years ago.
I see Mei is in another new position. My heart goes out to her.
WANDA I hope you get pics of the butterfly that emerges. I find the whole process facinating. I have a parent of a former student that has a butterfly garden down here. When the Monarchs come through, she tags them and keeps track for others. Each year she comes into our classroom and brings all kinds of info and butterflies. Last time, she ever brought in cloth make believe wings the children could wear when they went out to release the ones she brought. They just love it, and then we watch our own Painted Lady butterflies in the spring.
Well, I have to go and get some brownies and muffins baked and then head out grocery shopping. If you smell anything burning, it is my baking down here! :) They call me hit or miss; never know how things will turn out.
Am hoping for good news when I return. You all keep your eyes peeled.
Just finished reading today's blogs, and now a storm is coming....lots of "rolling thunder." Better shut down! Steve, glad all went well. Candy...you've never even been to Ocracoke???
Well... I was born in Alabama... pouring rain here now, small cell just formed right over top of us- might be coming at you, JO. Lightining strike just went off that sounded like it hit something nearby-
Now At 1128 am EDT...a thunderstorm was over Shepherdstown...moving east at 22 mph. Locations such as Boonsboro...Brunswick and Braddock Heights will likely be affected through noon. Brief periods of heavy rain and wind gusts of 35 mph can be expected with this activity.

Wednesday, August 6 Lun Lun’s most recent hormone results show that her progestins concentrations are still high. The concentrations were somewhat lower than in the previous week, but this does not seem to be a decrease that would indicate she is nearing the time for a possible birth. Her behavior remains normal. She is still eating well, active and going on exhibit. So we continue to watch her closely and are prepared to begin birth watch at any time. Rebecca Snyder, PhD Curator of Carnivores
As of the end of last week, Lun Lun was still eating the giant panda building out of house and home – a sign that she has yet to enter the final phase of pregnancy or pseudopregnancy. Urine samples sent to Smithsonian's National Zoo Conservation and Research Center recently indicated that Lun Lun's progestins had increased significantly, which does suggest that she may be drawing nearer to a birth window. The might-be mother, while active and hungry at present, should become more lethargic, exhibit a sharp decrease in appetite and begin to prefer the solitude of her den over coming days. What do we do now? We wait, we watch, we analyze … and we cross our pseudothumbs
Gotta love their entheusiam at a time like this (and sense of humor). To have a baby panda to watch from there or NZ would put the icing on the cake for this year.
Yes, Helen, I find that odd that Atlanta would have to send samples to Washington; I would think that examining a urine speciman would be something that any zoo could do. Why, I can do it right here at home (just a quick trip to Wal-Mart). LOL
I love Wall-Mart too. It really saves me a lot of time. The almost always have what I need. We don't like their meat. The thing I don't like is parking....can never find a space near-by. I can't even find a handicapped space when I am with my Mom. I got into an argument with a woman one day, because she zipped into a handicap space that I was about to pull into. She had no handicap tags or hanger. I was so angry that I walked to her door and wouldn't let her get out of the car...she finally left.
Afternoon Eagle Buds. Your rainstorm just went thru here so turned on puter again. Wanda you were so BRAVE in parking lot. If you did that down here, you'd probably get shot!
Red spoke of Gulf Shores---the most beautiful beach we have ever seen!Hope it doesn't get too commercial. My daughter & SIL lived in Mobile a few years for his job & her doctorate program. You have to go thru Foley which is hometown of author of Forrest Gump!
Do I see Tiny??? THANK YOU, Paula!!!;>)) At the nest area in the Park where I work, I mentioned I had heard squealing, but bird talking was out of sight. I thought maybe it was osprey, but a coworker has heard that too & said it was eagle.Wish they would make appearance too!
Hmmm..I think I've missed something...Who's George???? Way to go, Wanda!!! Hint: Spring Mills WalMart parking is better than the mall--wider aisles, more H/C spaces!
Hedgie, "George" is the name we gave the large, fat, ole Gray Squirrel we used to see on the Kent nest.
He's since had a bunch of offspring, and at least one of them was seen digging the hole in the middle of the Kent nest last year, which ultimately led to the nest collapsing.
Good afternoon everyone. I am late. Mix up with jury duty. Got notice but no number. Showed up and was told not till next year. Know I will get a notice that I did not show. Wow. Nice family reunion in CT
Lun-Lun hasn't even entered the luteal phase that Mei is in yet...that phase is usually 40 t0 50 days before birth....keepers think Mei may be past those days, but they are not really sure when she started...for as much science that goes on, there really is no clear answer to pandas behaviors....
Great picture from Steffi. She saw K-67,65,83,88,89,& 70 all flying together. She has film of her feeding Pe and Pimu. She thinks K-62 didn't get the memo about the flying party. They are such great people who do above and beyond their jobs.
Hi all, I am finally back from grocery shopping, and I beat the rain. We have a severy thunderstorm watch here today. Mostly cloudy here. Anything beats 97 degrees.
LYNN That is right, I have never even been to Ocrakoke, NC in my 26, 27 years living down here. I have friends that have gone there for a weekend stay to get away from up here. I went to go on the ferry once and it looked like showers, so we turned around. Come to find out, there were waterspouts out there from the storm.
Just caught the edge of the hail storm, thank goodness, now it is pouring rain.. been trying to mow grass between storms all day, I give up on that for today- way too wet now.
Well had sshort heavy rain & sun out here too.Big umbrella blew out of the glass table--luckily no breakage. Hubby didn't think it was getting windy so didn't take it down, but it's my fault!! I didn't tell him!!
Good afternoon everyone! I have been working on this new system today and it is as slow as winter molasses on my computer. Anyway, getting ready to go back to it. Been watching Mei today. She sure has not left that birthing den very much at all.
August 7 Mei Xiang has been spending more time in her den. She has created the biggest pile of bamboo we have ever seen in there. It is a wonder that she can get through the door to her place beside the bed.
Mei has also been showing more pregnancy behaviors. In particular, she has been cradling the Kong toy for a total of four hours and 45 minutes in four time frames: at 4:14, 7, and 10:04 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. We also saw ano-genital licking for 11 minutes at 4:14 a.m. and another five minutes at 1:39 p.m. Ano-genital licking as well as the increase in cradling behavior is a signal that we are reaching the end of a pregnancy or pseudopregnancy.
Mei left the den at 2:30 this afternoon and dragged another piece of bamboo into the den and proceeded to eat for at least 45 minutes. She continues to have an excellent appetite. Two urine samples were collected this morning from 4:09 and 7:40 a.m. Mei has not urinated today.
Well, I THINK the storms are done. We had four here, three w/ lots of thunder, but no significant rain! Sun out, nice breeze and much lower humidity. Hope no one had hail or wind damage.
@*%#- One more small but nasty looking storm in PA coming at us- has heavy rains, thought it would go by us- looks like it is shifting heading right for us- 80% chance of hail-
I almost missed him. I've been concentrating on watching Mei that I've been guilty of not having my cam up. So glad I did 'cause I really needed that Eagle Fix!
Wow, Megan you sure have a knack for taking pics. Those bunnies are too cute. We spent a fortune one year trying to keep them out of our garden, finally someone told us to put chicken wire around the bottom, on the ground and up the side of the fence. Worked like a charm.
I wish I had a good camera- one of these days- when my ship comes in.. hope it didn't sink... those darn bunnies are right in the middle of a bed of carnations- mom was so clever to hide them right under my nose- hard to keep them out of the gardens, electric fence is useless on them.
Megan I just looked at you newly posted pics - Your 4 o'clocks are so colorful - I love them. Had to chuckle as I scrolled down and tried to determine what that fuzzy brown plant was before I read the caption about Baby Bunnies.
I was just out on the deck and the storm clouds above look just like yours! At least they are moving...
Megan your pictures are great. The bunnies are so cute. Sorry they cause so much damage but you supply them with gourmet food supply. Good night everyone. Pleasant dreams.
Wanda- it was starting to storm when I found them so they got lucky cause I came inside-tomorrow is a different story if they are still out there, I'll try to move them to another part of the yard away from the gardens. I lost a whole crop of strawflowers to those rodents this spring- they ate about 140 of them..
MEI on 1 and 2 cam.....Dr Snob from WVA is on Hopkins, this show was supposed to be only 6 weeks, but got good ratings so they brought it back for another week...too bad they brought here back

Glad to hear you felt like a King!
Take care & don't overdo.
Thanks for the heads up Dave.
Mei is very interested in her nether regions this a.m.
Whoa- King Steve- has a certain ring to it...
What was that noise on Mei's cam?
Good Thursday morning to you all. Glad you are doing better Steve and feeling like a King too. :)
I see Mei is still in waiting, juvie eyases is in Finny's nest and parent just came into the Hobbie chick with some food. He is now devouring it.
DAVE I know how you must be feeling as retirement gets nearer. I was going out this Sept., but chose to stay another year. I would love to spend all my free time finding and watching nature. You are lucky that the eagles are so close to you.
they were opening and closing the doors, Jo, and you could hear them cleaning the dens down with a hose

So glad to hear we had another visit from our Liberty and Belle this morning. Missed it again tho, but what a pic to start your day with t-bird.
CANDY, how interesting; tell us more about your F-I-L!
Hi Candy!
Daughter is coming shortly after noon hour..... so I think I best
get ready for her.
Maybe Mei will do what our eagles always do --- wait until Mema leaves and then put on a show!!!

tee-hee, hope so, Jo:)

Glad to hear that Steve.
Jo, that looks like a piece of plastic bag in CT nest.
My Mom is from Mobile...been a long time since I've been there...
I guess his brother, Mike is now in Foley and is the captain of a tugboat out of Alabama on the Mississippi.
I have never been any farther south than Hatteras Island, but would love to go go there sometime.
Hey Paula, maybe you and I should make a date for when I retire to go down and look things over! :)
I see Mei is in another new position. My heart goes out to her.

Candy, you have some interesting family members, very colorful. I do too, but some stories, I can't tell!! LOL
STEVE, of course they treated you like royality, you are to us!
Get better soon.
GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE in the WORLD OF THE AMERICAN EAGLE.

No rain here on Gosling Marsh. We really do need it.
Oh, just as I posted the last remark, I heard THUNDER!!
Here comes number two, storm has shifted a little, headed towards Sheptown.
Headed out to Hagerstown - Storm will be following me I fear....
BBL
looks dark at the nest
looks like a hole in the nest, wonder if George has been there?
I hear your thunder bumper....
And since we are missing our juvies so much...I brought Tiny back!
Helen, maybe that IS George or what is left of him.
By the looks of the radar, it should be pouring at the nest.
Just got this in from Atlanta:)

they have a great sense of humor
LOVE IT, Paula!!
good to see hime again:)
Gotta love their entheusiam at a time like this (and sense of humor). To have a baby panda to watch from there or NZ would put the icing on the cake for this year.
him, not hime!
Tai is cooling off by the waterfall
man, people were not happy that pandas were inside, and in their side dens most of the afternoon yesterday.....
it would be wonderful, Wanda....interesting they send there urine sample to the Smithsonian CDC, just like we send Mei's'
they must be more laid back there, than in DC....
Tai has a frosty treat.
Yes, Helen, I find that odd that Atlanta would have to send samples to Washington; I would think that examining a urine speciman would be something that any zoo could do. Why, I can do it right here at home (just a quick trip to Wal-Mart). LOL
oh no, not WALMART:):):)
don't know why they do that, must be some sort of protocol...
I could send Meggy! She loves to go to Wal-Mart.
I love WALMART, it is just some of the loud screaming people that upset me.....
I guess the zoo could have some sort of agreement with China that the samples are sent to D.C. for security purposes.
would love to see Mei deliver on Maggie's Birthday this Saturday.
Osprey munching at CT
Sunshine on our nest :)
you could be correct...these are China's pandas after all!..I will have to ask one of the keepers next time I go to the zoo
Wow, she'll be two, won't she MIts? Do I Smell Cake?
I love Wall-Mart too. It really saves me a lot of time. The almost always have what I need. We don't like their meat. The thing I don't like is parking....can never find a space near-by. I can't even find a handicapped space when I am with my Mom. I got into an argument with a woman one day, because she zipped into a handicap space that I was about to pull into. She had no handicap tags or hanger. I was so angry that I walked to her door and wouldn't let her get out of the car...she finally left.
yes, Paula, she will be 2, and Molly will be 1 on October 1st...quite the handfull
you go...WANDA!!!!!
We did have a little rain, but it didn't amout to anymore than 21 drops.
No, I am not going to walmart today..
THANK YOU, Paula!!!;>))
At the nest area in the Park where I work, I mentioned I had heard squealing, but bird talking was out of sight. I thought maybe it was osprey, but a coworker has heard that too & said it was eagle.Wish they would make appearance too!
Hmmm..I think I've missed something...Who's George????
Way to go, Wanda!!! Hint: Spring Mills WalMart parking is better than the mall--wider aisles, more H/C spaces!

poor Mei looks like she has a tummy ache
Severe thunderstorm warning for here---it just left Helen's in Bethesda!! Hope no problems there.
Gonna shut down...BBL
no problems here, was a very brief t-shower, sun is out now
5 osprey at CT
Shhh... Spring Mills walmart is hidden secret- still new, hence clean, and often very empty.. Hagerstown is the worst in the area
Make that 6 at CT, one on the cam! All present and accounted for!!
wow, the whole family!!!
Mei is awake chewing on her paws
Good afternoon everyone. I am late. Mix up with jury duty. Got notice but no number. Showed up and was told not till next year. Know I will get a notice that I did not show.
Wow. Nice family reunion in CT
Thanks for info, Jim!
Mits, if Mei is looking uncomfortable, maybe that's a SIGN????
Oh-oh...another storm coming close. Later!!
hope you have a good lawyer, Ceil:):):)
And now CT is MT MT MT
panda with its head in a honey crate....can't tell who it is:)
it's Tian with the honey crate:)
after a nice meal of bamboo, Mei has dragged more into the birthing den
Interesting how she has been nesting in the den and Lun Lun hasn't...(from the comments you posted about Lun earlier)
Lun-Lun hasn't even entered the luteal phase that Mei is in yet...that phase is usually 40 t0 50 days before birth....keepers think Mei may be past those days, but they are not really sure when she started...for as much science that goes on, there really is no clear answer to pandas behaviors....
I will try to check when they did AI on Lun
It's hailing here:((( wicked lightning strikes all around us...
Lun-Lun had her AI, a full month after Meis', and Mei's was March 18th.....so along way to go in Atlanta, but who knows:)
I see that Mei is all done with her bamboo and has decided to take a Panda nap.
MEGAN I hope the hail goes easy on all your beautiful flowers. You don't need hail.
Just caught the edge of the hail storm, thank goodness, now it is pouring rain.. been trying to mow grass between storms all day, I give up on that for today- way too wet now.
Thanks, Mits.
Glad someone is getting rain...
Sounds like you really need that facial you just won, Megan.
Son just came home, so is't Lator gater for me. All have a wonderful rest of the day.
our rain dampened the streets and made it hotter and more humid:(
bye, Candy
PAULA, FINALE OF HOPKINS TONIGHT!!!!!!!
Well had sshort heavy rain & sun out here too.Big umbrella blew out of the glass table--luckily no breakage. Hubby didn't think it was getting windy so didn't take it down, but it's my fault!! I didn't tell him!!
Yeah, here too, the sun is out and it's HOT... not a lot of rain even though it poured several times.
Thanks, Mits!!!
Mei zonked out, other panda pushing big ball around. So cute.
That is Tai, pushing the ball around....new update coming soon on panda page....
Mei has got a hefty appetite today...
Good afternoon everyone! I have been working on this new system today and it is as slow as winter molasses on my computer. Anyway, getting ready to go back to it. Been watching Mei today. She sure has not left that birthing den very much at all.
Got to leave another comment so the comments will get emailed to me! :)
yes seems like she has been in that den, more than out of it...C'mon Mei...Ceil says it feels like it has been 9 months
oh dear, Mei sounds stressed
or maybe she has the hiccups:)
she must have seen the stock market
the person running the cams must be having an anxiety attack
and she is on from 4 til 10 tonight
she came out of the birthing den, and is still huffing and honking
I don't see any contractions though.
I have been listening to her Mits. She does not seem happy!
ok, maybe a nice drink of water will settle her down
don't know about her, but I could use a drink....
back to eating:)
maybe she had heartburn, Sharon
August 7
Mei Xiang has been spending more time in her den.
I so pray it is pregnancy and not pseudo!
Well, I THINK the storms are done. We had four here, three w/ lots of thunder, but no significant rain! Sun out, nice breeze and much lower humidity.
Hope no one had hail or wind damage.
Me, too, Sharon!
zippo here in Bethesda, but they were close by....only heard thunder once...glad they are out of the ares...hubby flying home tonight
no food in the house except mashed potatoes and gravy.....sounds good to me....
I'm sure glad that human pregnancy isn't so "iffy"--LOL!
Helen, that's good comfort food!
yes, Lynn, and watching Mei, I need it:)
I'm sure you do! But what will you feed jubby when he gets home?
Guess I'll go rustle up some dinner. BBL!
@*%#- One more small but nasty looking storm in PA coming at us- has heavy rains, thought it would go by us- looks like it is shifting heading right for us- 80% chance of hail-
Lynn, hubby will get something at airport before he leaves....will not be home til after 9
It is still bright in the valley - between here and Hagerstown today I hit quite a few downpours.
Was not able to see a rainbow....
Cam zoomed in on Mei's face...so cute! Looks so peaceful.
Cam 2, that is!
There was just an adult in our nest.
Raining again!!! No storm, tho'...sounds like more rain than what we got earlier with storms!
Juvie!
Nope, adult...gone now....I clicked so fast I only barely saw it and when I went back...gone!
At this rate I will never get anything done outside tonite....
Skirted that storm-phew..but wait, here comes the one that just passed Hedgie..
Adult back in nest!!
I'm seeing 2 adults in our nest. Anyone else see them?
Mei should be the one on the floor with all the bamboo on Cam 1
That (cute) FACE should belong to Tai or Tian. How about those teeth!
No rain here yet gals! Maybe the mountain is holding it over on your side!
EAGLE ALERT
OH MY! ADULT IN NEST WHOO HOO
Another beautiful flower, Megan!!!
Cool!!
What a beautiful sight! Sure do wish we would see a juvie or 3!
Liberty hasn't moved much
Must be waiting I HOPE
on Belle........
Don't fly away just yet!
POOF
Is the time on your still cam moving?
Mine is like stuck at 8:05:35 PM
Boo, just missed it! :>(
Well, shoot, missed the visitor again!!
Now it is moving forward ....

I think that is Tian on the close up, with the pearly whites. He has good dental hygiene.
I almost missed him. I've been concentrating on watching Mei that I've been guilty of not having my cam up. So glad I did 'cause I really needed that Eagle Fix!
My dear sweet sister sent me a pic, bless her heart. Still not the same.
Now it looks like Mei on both cams. Think we are too late to hope for a cub, huh?
She is busy with something.
No, SIssy. I think Mits said the watch would continue through the 12th
for Mei.
Did your eagle cam go psychedelic like mine just did?
I added some new pics to my blog-
mine did, jo, and now it is back with all of spidey's artwork
Now it's back to the norm...
Spidey still around our nest...
I have my NZoo speakers on so I can hear Mei..... She is going to knock
me out of this chair if she starts
with a loud bark!
Had to chuckle as I scrolled down and tried to determine what that fuzzy brown plant was before I read the caption
about Baby Bunnies.
I was just out on the deck and the storm clouds above look just like yours! At least they are moving...
Thanks for sharing more great pics, Megan!
Not too sure, but I think the cams ARE on two different pandas!
Yeah, Lynn, they are now.
Mei is on one but I am not sure who is on 2.
Been watching Pandas---lots of action!!! LOL No wonder Sissy wants to be a panda---what a life!
Megan your flowers are beautiful & th0ose bunnies are so cute.Hope they don't eat a lot.
Hopkins is on at 10PM!!!
Well, you beautiful people, I am going to call it a night. Been a good day. See ya'll in the morning light!!
Oh yeah, WISH I WAS A PANDA!!
that is Tai on 2...going to watch CSI and HOPKINS....later:)
Megan, your flowers are like a breath of fresh air. What did you do about the bunnies?
HOPKINS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES...hope it comes back in the Fall.
Megan your pictures are great. The bunnies are so cute. Sorry they cause so much damage but you supply them with gourmet food supply. Good night everyone. Pleasant dreams.
Daggone - missed the visits!
Finally got about 20 minutes of rain here...at least I didn't have to water tonight.
if it is anything like the Hopkins 24/7 that was on in 2000, it is just going to be a summer show, Wanda.....Good night, CEIL
Wanda- it was starting to storm when I found them so they got lucky cause I came inside-tomorrow is a different story if they are still out there, I'll try to move them to another part of the yard away from the gardens. I lost a whole crop of strawflowers to those rodents this spring- they ate about 140 of them..
MEGAN you are an excellent photographer:)
Blogger cop got me!
Going to leave for a few..... BRB
Hungry bunnies!
They're still cute!
Cam is right on Mei's tail end...
That is if Mei is still on Cam 1 but now out in her den area........If it is Mei she is eating now.
MEI on 1 and 2 cam.....Dr Snob from WVA is on Hopkins, this show was supposed to be only 6 weeks, but got good ratings so they brought it back for another week...too bad they brought here back
Well at least Dr Snob is a topic for conversation!
Which one is Dr. Snob?
