Thanks for the call over Wanda, Thanks Steve! Oh, and by the way Steve, in case I haven't said it enough, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR OUR LIVE FEED!! It was right on time and I am so very grateful for it!!
Yep, Sharon! And, I am impressed with Outdoor TV people for getting back to us so promptly in answer to Paula's email. Understand the situation of not having time to fine-tune the camera. We can live with a dark picture til next year:)
It's me Wanda, Sissy. I think I may have to modify my name, too close, people get us confused all the time!!! Sharon is almost here, was between Bluefield and Princeton a minute ago when I talked to her. Can't wait to hug her neck. Man-o-man, I miss her butt!!
Winter Update #2 - February 3, 2010 We had a moderate snow event overnight, and this morning our viewers noticed that the first egg had been laid. Not the best weather, but these adults are diligent and know what it takes to keep the egg dry and warm.
Look for up to two additional eggs over the next several days separated by at least 24 hours.
More snow is forecasted for Friday and Saturday, which will prove to be a challenge to the eagles.
Live feed looks brighter here. I didn't go back to bed, though I would've liked to. Had to run out to get kerosene for heaters and gas for the snow blower.
Good morning. Back from coffee and dog treats. I think everyone went to the grocery store out your way. Your forecast has me awfully concerned for nest happenings Fri through Sunday. Man ya know she is not only going to have to keep that egg warm and dry but also lay another one or even 2 in a storm. A challenge for our eagles and especially their eggs indeed I can't bear the thought. I so hope it goes away from Shep town argh.
Outdoor challenge is doing an excellent job communicating. Love it .
Chinese panda caretakers are recruiting panda tutors to teach Mei commands in Chinese. No word if that will be necessary for Tai. Guess OUR bear must already be bi-linqual! I think the media has done a fairly good job on covering the story. 75 kilos of bamboo onboard plane!
Mits, I can't imagine anybody having a problem with us talking about the pandas here! Don't you dare apologize.
Margy just issued the updated weather warning for this area: storm to begin here by mid-morning tomorrow. Blizzard conditions with heavy snow and 30 mph winds. Sounding worse all the time.
LOL, Sissy! Glad you are going to hug Shar's neck a nd not her butt, even tho' I'm sure you miss ALL of her! Glad that she's making it home before the storm....is she bringing all the dogs, or is Thelma coming, too??
I think the majority of us if not all have absolutely loved sharing the pandas on here. Mits I think your sharing of info and camera time has made it even more fun for everyone. I know it is hard for them to go back and I do hope they pick up Chinese quickly. I would think your volunteer work there has added some awfully special memories just for you. How cool that must be :-)
live cam has developed a louder hummm here. I am off to the grocery store. Have a nice day.
I have no clue how much I will watch while it storms at the nest. But whether or not I blog I will certainly have all of you in the storm and that special pair in the sycamore tree on my heart and in my prayers throughout the weekend.
Both cams look great, Paula. Thankful for Outdoor being so attentive to our requests!
Bye Bye Tai and Mei! Safe travels and have a good life ahead! Because of these 2 delightful pandas I have learned a lot. Happy I had the chance to do so.
Clarity and brightness seem to be fairly equal, but no color on live; can see green of nesting materials on still. Sound intermittant, but buzz persists. In VERY close sync time-wise.
Worrying about Christie---they and other couples are headed for Deep Creek tomorrow afternoon for snow-tubing weekend......can't leave til she gets off work at 2:30. Seriously hope they cancel this trip. Will be worried sick if they try to go.
Hoping that power stays on...sure would hate to not be on here and watching for next eggs. Guess those with phone line providers and battery laptops would still be able to watch, right? Or do you still have a router that plugs in to power??
lol No, Hedgie. I mean duplicate entries.... lol Talking about canceling trips - My Hedgesville son-in-law is planning on Seven Springs (2hrs away) snowboarding trip to leave Fri with the guys and return Sat evening. He has 4-wheel drive but it leaves gd without vehicle. She is stocking up on supplies and knows that the Hedgesville Fire Co. will be there for her if any emergency. I guess that is a 'plan' Lynn, you and I will not only be worrying about Belle and Lib this weekend.
not really, that would be one big tarp, and you don't really want to be dragging something across the plastic. easiest thing to do is carefully sweep it off with a broom. Anything over 3", and it's not sliding off by itself, you gotta get out there and remove it. The plastic can become deflated, and worse case scenario, too much snow weight, the plastic sags, and the pipes bend. Seen it happen, and then that's pretty much the end of the gh.
Oh, no, Jo....we will both be nervous wrecks. Too bad you are going to miss the visit today, too. And I guess we all could lose our internet, then. Hope Belle and Lib can manage without us, LOL! This whole thing is going to really stink. I HATE SNOW! Megan, gh is heated, right? What slides off better---the dry fluffy snow or the wet snow? I find that the wet slides off the sunroom faster than the dry. Remmber before building it, the dog kennel had a tarp over it---even under the deck, had to go out and knock snow off it every few hours to prevent sagging and pulling in to cage.
Good morning! Have been watching the nest while reading the paper. Then read through the blog. Thanks for the Panda slide show.
Bev...so glad you are feeling better. Rain has stopped here, but it is still cloudy! Tried to keep it here so you would not get snow....did not work. I am so worried about the nest. I am like Glo....it will be hard to watch.
Yes, you need a router plugged for laptop to work...if you are using a router, which we do.
Also, the battery on this laptop does not last long.
Well Megan then you work is still Wish I could help when I hear you say you are going out to the gh roof! So thankful your handyman loves your cookies! He sure is a good guy - keep him!
Light fluffy snow was removed with our leaf blower time before last. Maybe this will be light and fluffy!
CH. 4 now was showing Tai in his crate inside plane where caretaker was giving more fruit & carrots. I heard about the tutor that will be in China to teach Mandarin! Both Fed Ex truck & plane have large panda decals on them. Lynne2, Ch 5 news said you could go online to them & they had a Flight link to track the panda travels. Sorry, I didn't look it up yet. Plane will leave at Noon. PS We love eagles too!!! ☺ ♥
Time for me to go eat a bite of breakfast. We stayed up late last night and slept late this morning. Going to be that kind of day. Maybe I should try to accomplish something today!!!lol
Gh is heated when we put the kero heaters in, when things work perfectly, snow will fall off on it's own, but when you get so much snow, it becomes too deep along the sides to slide off anymore, and we have to remove snow along there to make room for more. And if the snow is really wet, it tends to lay and not slide fast enough, and gets heavy quick. Steel pipe ridge along top of gh gets frozen, one side deflates, then it has less strength for snow. And if the wind picks up, you want the gh totally inflated, deflated, loose plastic will whip in the wind, could tear. No, I have never tried a leaf blower, might work on dry snow.
Not unusual when only 1 egg to leave it unattended (in good weather) Serious incubation doesn't start until 2 or 3 eggs. It is so the hatching is around the same time.
I wonder if NBG will have 3 eggs? I like BWE with only 2 eggs.. easier to take care of by the Lady & Lord
Lisa says : 02/03/10: The Dunedin Osprey Cam in Florida could be seeing osprey chicks hatching any day now. They've had cold weather for Florida, so we hope the eggs are okay and they get chicks.

WINTER STORM WARNING now in effect for many of us. Looks like it may start earlier than originally predicted...go to NOAA.gov and type in your zip codes.
Loretta, thanks for the info
Megan, sorry that you're going to have to deal with more greenhouse snow removal :(
Lynn, I sure hope Christie, and Jo, your son in law reconsider travel this weekend.
If Belle lays another egg today, will they then start incubating, thereby keeping the eggs covered through the upcoming snow, or if a third egg is to come, will they leave like they do now with the one?
Lynne, you won't see the eggs unattended after the second one arrives, except for eating and switches. Sometimes they also do this so the chicks hatch closer together.
Both eagles gone from OK. Saw one pull a piece of paper out from the bottom of the pile of sticks and proceed to eat the paper. Looks like heavy rain there.
i GOT a bit shocky when I saw the nest empty, but then I remembered we see that every year. Belle is slowing the incubation of the first, so there won't be so much difference in size between chicks.
The still and live cams do look more similar, which is better than yesterday in the afternoon for sure. But I don't like it as bright as the still cam has been when there is a glaring light on the nest, day or night. That's too much bright in my book.
Hope you all are having a great week. Keep smiling ... either things will get better and others will smile too, or you'll spread it around. Either way you'll be looking at a bunch of smiling faces. ]:~D]
Wish they would build up the nest on the left side. Looks like a weak spot to me. And, while they are at it...build a lean-to to protect from wind and snow.
Yes, have had cameras for research before. I think BWE was one of the earliest ones. And Hornby was in 2006, as was ours and quite a few others. I don't know who was the first.
Have finished a manicure. Now I guess I am going to have to take the laptop to the bathroom to do my face and hair. Come out from where ever you are, Belle!
Good afternoon everybody! I am in Bluefield but going to head back to Bedford tonight before the storm hits. The Panda Express did wonderful on the trip up here! Yay!
Saw the egg....Belle is tending it....hard to know for sure, but looked whole....????? She pulled some fluff away. Sitting now, but still pulling fluff around.
Sharon, that was a mighty long trip and now another going back!!! Thought you were going to stay for the weekend! Did you go home just to show off the Panda Express????? LOL. You be safe, gal.
Trying to multi task snd it is not working. Trying to watch cam, which needed to be refreshed, blog, curl hair, and pet a purring Annie at the same time. Poor Annie gave up on me and left. She thinks my sit down at the vanity is her time.
If the feed is slowing down your computer you can do that...seems to help most people. If it's fine, leave it alone. Doesn't hurt anything else that I know of.
I watched our eagles for a long time this morning and really could not tell one from the other. Maybe they are like the old married couple that has been together so long they have begun to look alike!:) At one point, I could tell Belle with her fancy neck feathers, but if she is not turned toward the camera I cannot tell. They turned that little egg just about every 15 minutes...I thought they were going to wear it out. LOL Got some photos on the Album. Going to GG's. BBL
It is spectacular to see them do it Lori and it is nerve rattling as all get out!
They will sit on the egg cup and sometimes spread their wings just to keep the snow and or rain from getting in on the eggs. They sometimes sit for a period of time and you can only see their heads - they all of a sudden when you least expect it Whoosh! up those wings come and they shake off the snow. They then either switch or back down they go.

THANKS FOR THE NEW THREAD...SNOWS A COMIN'.
I like pears too, but can never find good ripe ones:( I think they are about as good a fruit as you can eat!
Helen, I like your attitude about losing Tai...he will be helping the population of an endangered species:)
Thanks for the call over Wanda, Thanks Steve! Oh, and by the way Steve, in case I haven't said it enough, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR OUR LIVE FEED!! It was right on time and I am so very grateful for it!!
Does anyone know the stats on Belle's egg laying records? Like what is the fewest amount of days between egg laying and the longest?
Yep, Sharon! And, I am impressed with Outdoor TV people for getting back to us so promptly in answer to Paula's email. Understand the situation of not having time to fine-tune the camera. We can live with a dark picture til next year:)

Wanda - 2 days is the least and 4 days is the most between Belle's eggs
She seems to pop out the 3rd egg on the 4 day span
All the egg laying information is on the front page of the EM yahoo group
I just updated the front page with our first egg information.
OK ya'll take a look at both the live feed and the still cam....
Outdoor channel sent me an email, saying NCTC tweaked the picture....I think they are both very similar in brightness...what do ya'll think?
So, did everyone go back to bed? Or sleeping in.
I told outdoor channel I thought the pic looked brighter, but that cloud cover would be the real test.
Live feed looks brighter here.
I didn't go back to bed, though I would've liked to. Had to run out to get kerosene for heaters and gas for the snow blower.

Oh, I agree Lynn, no need to stop talking about Pandas.
And yes, I agree Tai has to go back to keep the species genitically diverse!
Eagle is back....and my still pic is now ahead of the live feed.
Wanda, I'm with you....love pears, but rarely find any that are worth eating anymore.
Well, now vet says that Tai will be going to Wolong.......???That's not what I read earlier in the week.

Too much 'double talk' lol

Chatting and missed an egg roll and change of position ....
Jenny and Aaron are coming around noon to visit. Hedgesville bunch was headed here but vehicle in for check up.
They sure need more fluff in the nest
Hardly anything for them to pull in beside themselves.
Megan - could you ever put a large tarp on the gh and when snow accumulated you could just pull it off and then put it back up?
not really, that would be one big tarp, and you don't really want to be dragging something across the plastic. easiest thing to do is carefully sweep it off with a broom. Do I have cell phone numbers? If your power goes down, but the cam does not, I could still watch and report. Have unlimited long distance.
LOL Think eagle was just knocked out of the nest. Whoops! Both gone now.
MT nest....I can hear a louder hum as well.
Morning! I'm surprised they left the egg unattended. Lots of nice fluff. Wonder why they put the nest cup so close to the edge?
Lots to do today, can't hang around and watch cams all day :(
Have fun, take care, get well if you're sick. :)
Yes, the hum is much louder. Wonder if that has to do with moisture? The hum does signal when the cam has stopped.
Hi and bye, Delphia!
Nice and bright on both cams~~~that egg sure shows!!!
Time for me to go eat a bite of breakfast. We stayed up late last night and slept late this morning. Going to be that kind of day. Maybe I should try to accomplish something today!!!lol

MT nest---except for the egg! COme back, Mama.
naked egg, and no eagles...It sure looks like that egg cup got a lot deeper since yesterday
You know one of them is probably right above the nest in the tree. Sun is warm out there, gotta let that egg cool off a little.
Looks like Belle is back.
My still cam is behind the live feed again.
Good girl!!
Megan, feel your pain about the whole thing. :(
The sun is nice and warm out there today :)

Accidentally stumbled onto a new litter of puppies - the shiba inu ones
New litter of Shiba Inu Puppies
Shuttle launch still on schedule for 4:39AM Sunday. Guess no bad weather predictions for FL. Hope our skies are clear by then!!
The five Shiba Inu pups (3 boys and 2 girls) were born on Saturday, January 16th, 2010. This is the second litter by their mom, Kika. Both parents are Champions and have been OFA, CERF and temperament tested.
Hello All. How much snow is expected at the nest this wkend? Poor Belle is going to need some Gore Tex!!
Plane is taxiing toward the runway at Dulles now. Goodbye, Tai Shan. :(
Our egg cup is soooooo deep
Hope it does the trick!
Mei will be staying in Chengdu. Tai will travel by truck another 2 hrs. to conservation center.
Plane is off the ground!
In the air....goodbye Tai and Mei. Safe travels, happy lives....
I didn't know that Mema Jo, but that makes sense.
Oh, those puppies are so cute!
The plane is in the air with our babies on it!!
Love you Pandas - Happy lives!
Hope they have the bamboo you prefer!
Goodbye Mei and Tai...May God keep you both safe and you learn your new language easily.
Hope Sharon gets in before the snow.
Be safe everyone.
thanks, everyone, know you love the pandas too.....you can track flight at FlightAware.com.....#FDX9750 to Chengdu International airport
Going to head out for dry dog food, and see life outside before I get stuck in here. bbl
Sharon is here, got here around 10ish this morning. She is gone to get Mattie from school. She called that she was sick but I think it is because Sharon is here and we have been missing her!!!

Can hear eagles in the tree. Would prefer them to be on the egg!
Lynne, you won't see the eggs unattended after the second one arrives, except for eating and switches. Sometimes they also do this so the chicks hatch closer together.
I'm sure one of them is up in the tree.
And Belle always has her egg cup at the far end of the nest.
Both eagles at OK nest, doing nestorations. Cool pic!!!
then I hope the second egg comes today before the tomorrow!
Both eagles gone from OK. Saw one pull a piece of paper out from the bottom of the pile of sticks and proceed to eat the paper. Looks like heavy rain there.
Welcome WV Susan.
Forecast is for a lot of snow, 12-24"
Eagle back, with something in talons..fluff?
Now , oh, took off with the floppy nestover
hahaaha!! Eagle just picked up some debris and flew off with it!
Back with more crib rails
building the snow fence?
Jeez, what a tree she just brought in!!!
Boy I hope Lib doesn't try that again...really stumbling all over trying to place that branch

Please, don't step on the egg while building!!
LOL Had Savannah up on the right side of my screen, she is looking to the left watching our eagle. Well, that's what it looked like!
Then she looked right at the cam as if to say....Did you see that?
anyone happen to know when and where the very first eagle nest camera was?
I thought Lib was all settled in, but no, gotta eat a piece of nestover, then up fooling with the unweildy branch again
Wish they would build up the nest on the left side. Looks like a weak spot to me. And, while they are at it...build a lean-to to protect from wind and snow.
Welcome, WV Susan.
Jo, I posted the puppy cam link a coupe of weeks ago.....can't believe you missed it!!!! Aren't they cute?
Do you mean on the internet, Lynne?
Thanks for plane tracking info, Mits.
I really need to go, but I do love watching this action.
on the internet, yes, but I guess they were able to install cameras for research before internet?
Hey Lib, get on that egg so everyone stops worrying, would ya?
He is ignoring you, Paula.
Yes, have had cameras for research before. I think BWE was one of the earliest ones. And Hornby was in 2006, as was ours and quite a few others. I don't know who was the first.
Lib standing there and was just calling out. I hope nothings wrong.
Then back to the stick...still looking around, pulling at something in the fluff, now looking around again.
Don't scare me, Paula.
Looks like the NBG male brought lunch for his mate. He's settin, she's eatin.
C(°Ù¿°)D

Did you see that shadow fly over?
Did you see that shadow over the nest?
lol Guess we both saw it.
Yeah, I saw that too.
Going to upgrade my adobe player
BBILW
Have finished a manicure. Now I guess I am going to have to take the laptop to the bathroom to do my face and hair. Come out from where ever you are, Belle!
Has precipitation started there? I think I hear it on the cam.
No, it is snow dripping or the wind. It is 37° and partly sunny now.
He is really calling out now.
Flew out to the right.
Good afternoon everybody! I am in Bluefield but going to head back to Bedford tonight before the storm hits. The Panda Express did wonderful on the trip up here! Yay!
OK, I hate to say it, but I am worried. I hope my fears are unfounded.
Are they always so vocal? Is everything okay?
Who, Paula??
Back with a stick
Think there may have been other birds around nest? I could hear crows, maybe a hawk nearby.
I would really like to see two eagles right now
Picking at nestovers...not even checking the egg cup...I'm really worried that Lib may have damaged the egg trouncing through there with that stick.
Something is definitely off. Didn 't even look at egg cup.
Lib was settling down to incubate the egg, pulling fluff around, etc. So I stopped my video and wasn't really paying attention.
Next thing I know he's up again playing with the stick. And that flyoff shadow over the nest, I think that was Belle leaving.
That's HP up in the tree
They are both there doing there thing "again" all is well.
Yep, heard that. Now if one of them doesn't come down and roll that egg, something is going on.
Had his eyes on Belle Megan . They need to go listen to the weather and get that fluff in there
Oh good! Who dat?
Saw the egg....Belle is tending it....hard to know for sure, but looked whole....????? She pulled some fluff away. Sitting now, but still pulling fluff around.
Whew, eagle back on egg..sorry to worry everyone...Lib just seemed to stomp through the cup and that really worried me.
Just signing back on... Aaron upgraded some of my programs.
I can't get into the live feed...
will try in a few minutes...
Still cam shows me that there is our eagle on the egg cup... right?
I wonder if they can sense when bad weather is coming??
Well, Mama is back.
C(°Ù¿°)D
Jim
Yep, Jo, she's there.
Looks like Belle, but not 100% on that ID.
Gonna go grab some lunch now...and a drink! LOL, I wish.
That was odd, guess everything is alright. Pass the G&t's... birds can sense the change in the barometric pressure, they will know a storm is coming.
Don't sign out of you Live Feed - I still am getting the wording
Error
Unable to play video -- (might mean that ad)
then says OK for you to click
Sharon, that was a mighty long trip and now another going back!!! Thought you were going to stay for the weekend! Did you go home just to show off the Panda Express????? LOL. You be safe, gal.
Trying to multi task snd it is not working. Trying to watch cam, which needed to be refreshed, blog, curl hair, and pet a purring Annie at the same time. Poor Annie gave up on me and left. She thinks my sit down at the vanity is her time.
Love seeing that eagle in the nest!~
Think I hear some chilluns down at the center.
I'll go for the g&t, too. Worried about the expected snow, do not need this behavior!!!
Watched the video on FB of Lily and the cub... His/her dark hair is coming in now. Cute little one with as much as you could see.
Egg Roll just happened
Hi Sharon I bet Mattie Jane was very happy to see you!
Travel safely
Glad to know you'll be back before the snow starts tomorrow.
NZ Asia trail Fishing cat in view..
Must have been my adobe flash player update because I can now get the one cam up - adult is sitting above the old nest......
It is really raining or foggy, at OK, Jo. Both were working on that nest earlier. About time for eggs there.
Looks as though the CO FtStVrain nest had a light dusting of snow this am.
Lolly I hope they use that nest...
Looks like that is Belle to me now...long eagle! I have to learn to trust the eagles!
Guess Lib didn't want to incubate!
Maybe Lib was sent to get some extra food for the next day or two...
You know - grocery store trip.
Egg Roll
Finally got my live feed up/running.
Noticing a white feather on the tip of the right wing..
Jo, tell Aaron to disable hardware acceleration on the cam page and your computer
Yup, fish, milk, TP...
Paula he has already gone.
Want to email me directions...
By disabling hardware acceleration what does that do?
Another egg roll
wiggle wiggle
Machinery near by.
Paula my live feed is ahead of my still cam. Just compared when the egg roll was taking place.
If the feed is slowing down your computer you can do that...seems to help most people. If it's fine, leave it alone. Doesn't hurt anything else that I know of.
Paula, just did that on the computer. Will see if Jack notices a difference.
Yea Jo mine is ahead now too, posted that awhile back.
Aaron upgraded my Firefox and said that should speed things up!
Is NBG gonna get snow too?
I would like to see some food brought to the nest. Have not seen anthing but stick brought in today.
LOL
Got some photos on the Album.
Going to GG's. BBL
Storm is coming up from the south
Don't see how it is going to miss NBG or BWE
I think I missed a switch.
Our eagle with the small white feather on the right wing tip is no longer on the egg cup.
Hi,
A quick visit. I have my "A" day class, so there's a little time for me to catch my breath.
I see one of our eagles warming the egg.
I enjoy reading panda news on this blog. I don't always get around to look at the other cams as much as some of you do, so I like the updates.
Good afternoon girls!
Wanda that's so funny about L & B turning the egg so much. I can't wait to see them do that.
So do we have egg #2 yet?
Nope Lori, Just one egg still
That's all right. It's not like we are going anywhere! LOL
How on earth as these two, or three counting the egg, going to handle 18 - 24" of snow?
Uncovered egg cup
Eagle (looks like Belle) has returned to the egg cup
Hi Mema Jo!
Is that Belle or Lib that is just getting on the nest?
It is spectacular to see them do it Lori and it is nerve rattling as all get out!
They will sit on the egg cup and sometimes spread their wings just to keep the snow and or rain from getting in on the eggs. They sometimes sit for a period of time and you can only see their heads - they all of a sudden when you least expect it Whoosh! up those wings come and they shake off the snow. They then either switch or back down they go.
Lori - can't ever be certain but it looked like Belle.
Lori - Chloe (Germany Bulldog) has an
UTI Christine took her in to vet and
has meds. Doing better.
About to head home. Plan to make a grocery store stop. Need birdseed and provisions just in case. Already have many provisions.
Maybe another snow shovel if I can find one.
See you later.
Now Shirley - If Will has a shovel that is all you need!
I sent Outdoor Channel another email and told them the brightness on the live feed was much better and that they were doing a great job!
Egg Roll
Egg roll!
Wiggle Wiggle
Another wiggle wiggle
Whenever my Live feed gets to
59:29 (I think that is what it says) it automatically changes to
00:01 and keeps going
Doesn't ask me if I'm still watching.
