Tuesday

We are watching the goings on at the nest.  If an egg was laid this AM, the fact that there has been no incubation for this many hours is not a good sign for this particular egg (if there is one).

We'll be preparing an update and will continue to watch.

New thread.

Thanks for new thread Steve.

WVJerry said...

Good afternoon. Didn't know an egg was seen. I am happy now I can watch on my phone now. It was not working the last two days for me. Sorry for my last post...but I was upset at my "full" season was going to end.

WVJerry said...

Eagle in nest now.

Lolly said...

I see the eagle and a fish. Do not see an egg.

Thanks for the new thread, and thanks Jerry for the call over.
Enjoy your new feather!!

home from work I see eagle with fish in nest

THANKS FOR THE NEW THREAD STEVE

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Jerry ! Congrats on a feather.

EAGLE IN NEST WITH FISH

If there was an egg in the nest I must have been covered and like you said, Steve the eagles have NOT been there much if at all today. I vote for no egg.

Thanks Steve for the fresh new thread

Lolly said...

I must say that the picture they posted with the new thread looks lie an egg.

Two eagles now!

Sandi said...

An egg???!!!!

I am seeing an eagle in the nest standing on a fish. Making some chirping noises. I have seen no egg; then again, the eagle is standing/sitting right where an egg would be.

Forgive my manners! Hi Jerry! Thanks Steve for the new thread and thanks, Jerry for the call over.

Jo, so glad to hear that Elliot made out fine with his surgery. Prayers now for quick healing of his little body! God love him!!

Cam just shook. Now 2 in the nest. Looks like Belle who just arrived. She is eating and Shep has backed away. Still can't see any egg - Belle has her back to the cam and is blocking my view while she chows down.

WVJerry said...

Two .now. Second one with fish first one brought but didn't eat.

JudyEddy said...

I forgot to ask What is the American Life Steve was refering to and who said that there was a egg in the nest I don't see any

Lolly said...

The first eagle had a nice fish. Second eagle is now chowing on the fish. Someone was hungry.

Hard to tell with two eagles in the nest, but I see no sign of an egg. Clear view now...no egg.

Sandi said...

Dinner in the nest would be excellent! An egg in the nest would not be good! Very cold and windy today. Then again, eagles can handle the cold and Belle is a seasoned veteran when it comes to eggs.

Both eating now - still don't see any egg!

JudyEddy said...

the pic does look like a egg sort of but nothing now

gym today for Jordyn in a bit

Lolly said...

Judy, look at the new picture Steve posted with the new thread.

WVJerry said...

Hi Jo, Lolly and Sandi. Yeah...I didn't see an egg but have not been on until now. Just saw comment in new thread post.

WVJerry said...

Hi JudyE too.

Lolly said...

Nice to see both eagles...now back to my closet for another hour! On a roll filling trash cans, recycle can and stuff to give away!

I came out of the closet (hee hee) for a while, now back I go!

JudyEddy said...

I LOVE the way the sun shines on there backs

JudyEddy said...

Shep is standing where the egg was in the picture HEY back at YA

JudyEddy said...

poof one

Sandi said...

STILL seeing no egg! Also, not seeing that fish anymore!!

Shep out!

JudyEddy said...

poof two

Sandi said...

MT nest - NO EGG!!!

JudyEddy said...

I don't see the egg either but the pic just could have been a white spot of a stick maybe did you see it in the picture he posted

WVJerry said...

Thanks for the reporting...I lost the Cam now. I'll keep checking back.

JudyEddy said...

I also lost the live feed got to get ready to go to gym see my Jordyn have a blast

JudyEddy said...

taking tablet they have free wifi but I usually watch her

paula eagleholic said...

I vote that it was something else besides an egg...Don't think Belle would ever leave an egg...she laid an egg on the snow covered nest one year and never left it!

paula eagleholic said...

Someone on the OD channel feed posted that she laid an egg and it is buried in the grass...I think more people would have noticed!

Sandi said...

I'm with Paula. I know she doesn't have to incubate the 1st egg immediately but I don't see both of them just burying an egg and then leaving it all day. Plus, Belle hasn't been acting like she does just prior to laying an egg.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth.

stronghunter said...

Getting dark now. I don't see an egg or any sign of one.

stronghunter said...

I do see something light-colored partially covered in nesting material. Lower portion of the nest at approximately 4:00. I don't think it is an egg, but don't know what it might be.

stronghunter said...

I hear something at the nest. Maybe a fox.

Sandi said...

Daylight is fading fast and no eagles have returned to the nest.

Time to start IEP writing! Goodnight all!

stronghunter said...

Good night, Sandi.

The white object I saw under nesting material is close to the spot where the white object is shown in the picture Steve posted. Wondering what it is. Certainly not normal egg-laying behavior for our eagles. Must be something else.

Lynne2 said...

oh my, been under the weather (it was not my brightest idea to go to work yesterday) and I see there MAY be an egg???

Lynne2 said...

I see NOTHING on live or still cam. My hope of the Full Snow Moon shedding some light on the night activities is a bust....sort of, as the moon will not be very high til very late tonight.

JudyEddy said...

And I don't think 🌝 🌚 🌛 🌜 full or otherwise we won't see anything

grannyblt said...

I agree with Paula and Sandi and the rest of you that the behavior is not right for an egg.

Sandi said...

Not sharing my opinion on Facebook or on the Outdoor Channel chat, in order to avoid friction. But about an hour ago, the Eagle Cam FB page posted this: "As the day progressed today and they did not return, I realized that the egg might not have been a viable one."

I have heard stories of eagles and falcons incubating eggs for weeks (even for a full term) before reaching the conclusion that one or more of them isn't viable. I don't agree that it's something an eagle could determine immediately.

Of course none of us will ever know for certain, but I have been watching Belle for 4 years now and nothing about her behavior in the past few days indicated that she was ready to lay her first egg. In addition, if she did lay one, I think more people would have seen it AND she would be in the nest right now incubating it.

I'm sticking with the belief that someone saw something in the nest that looked like an egg and made an incorrect announcement.

Time for bathtub and bedtime. Goodnight all! See you in the early AM!

JudyEddy said...

I also agree SANDI I deleted one of my comments a bit ago because I know some peek in on us and I don't want any friction also

stronghunter said...

There was something in the nest. Steve's picture shows that. And it does look like an egg. However, the eagles aren't acting like they had an egg. Could there have been something very wrong--a broken egg or something like that? Just throwing that out as a possibility.

stronghunter said...

And, of course, the eagles bring all kinds of things into the nest. As Sandi said, it's something we won't know for certain.

Still hearing that fox or whatever from time to time at the nest site.

stronghunter said...

Today was bowling day for me. I had one reasonable game and two terrible ones. Not being able to practice is hurting me. Just hoping that my knee gets better soon.

But also thankful that I'm getting around pretty well.

JudyEddy said...

Shirley so sorry about the game and just remember its just a game
I was so hoping deb had a video and no talk of her laying the egg that I have seen

Mema Jo said...

Good Evening to all ♥
I will definitely NOT add my opinion to any discussion of an egg or not because that is what it is - An Opinion. I don't think we will ever be sure why, whatever it was, was covered with flugg. I just don't want any drama and I'll patiently wait for a viable egg... ♥

Mema Jo said...

Baby Elliot is doing well this evening - at home with mom and dad.
Aaron said his son is talking away and telling him all about his day.
I am so grateful that the day is over and that it went so well - by the Grace of God ♥

JudyEddy said...

just saw a message under the live cam I never noticed before

Judie said...

Shirley, sorry you had two not-so-good bowling games today. Just take care of that knee, please.

Jo, most happy Elliot is doing so well.

Time for the pillows. Restful sleep everyone.

JO, love Aaron's description of Elliot's little speech last evening! So happy the baby is doing well!

JUDY, I don't think anyone answered your question re:This American Life. It's an NPR program, aired here on Saturday afternoons and chock full of interesting stories.

I have NPR on about 8 hours a day and can't imagine life without it!

SHIRLEY, it's a Victory in itself that you were able to bowl at all--you're well on your way to a big comeback! Yeah!

Thanks for the eagle/nest reportage everyone!

Yesterday's Doggy Play Day was fun. Now my long delayed (due to illness on the part of my hairdresser)Do is today at 12:45. I'll be home before the snow begins to fall. Expecting 1-3" between 3pm and midnight.

Sandi said...

Good afternoon. Checking in from work. Nest still empty with a piece of fish. I might try and swing by nest on my way home. Usually Usually don't see anything but will try anyway. Probably be 5-ish at that time...depending on how long I'm at Salvation Army store in Hagerstown. Take care all. Don't know much but if you all say no egg - I agree. You all know these two better than anyone - imho.

Praying for JACK...
You too JO and Mr. ED.

I have been skiing every day and it is awesome. Saturday I signed up for an Intermediate Ski Clinic, looking forward to some more tips and at the same token am a bit anxious...am I over my head?

Very dark threatening clouds today and the helicopters were out setting off avalanches to make it all safer. A bit eerie to hear the flares which trigger them...I was on the trail far away from where they were and it sounded like very close sonic booms...I checked and they said if our trails were in any danger they would have posted to not go out on the trails...

Long weekend coming up for us this weekend. Family Day...they are just trying to make the back country a bit safer by triggering avalanches before people head out there with their kids...

Laughing so hard...I was asked to go for a photo op as a representative of Friends of Kootenay Lake...they are the young group which test the waters of the lake. I enjoy them so much...the young people are working and are away so they asked me to do it...funny for the way I am because I am not at all formal.Photo Op sounds formal to me!!!

Judie said...

Congratulations to our Hoda on becoming a photo-op star.

First Owlet Hatches in Savannah

Right before darkness on February 3, the female Great Horned Owl arises from the nest bowl and exposes the just-hatched nestling for the first time. The owlet, still wobbly and weak from its prior life inside the shell, totters around the bottom of the nest bowl till the female returns and continues brooding it.
