How long until our pair of eaglets take flight? It appears that BWE's have both fledged now.

Thanks for the call over Jim.
Good day to you!

Lori - painting ALMOST done. A bit of touch up & and the service door to paint.

stronghunter said...

Food delivery! Much squealing!

stronghunter said...

One eaglet (Hedgie?) eating while the other (Shammy?) waits patiently--sort of.

stronghunter said...

Parent--Belle, I think, watching the breakfasting.

Good morning all. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Monday. Enjoying the cam this morning. My son and I got out fishing yesterday but couldn't get in to our favorite spot. So we headed to Dam #4 and swung by the nest site. Was thinking we wouldn't be able to see anything but could see nest fine. Got a good look at the new cam too. On way back out my son thought he saw an eagle in nest...I couldn't look with someone following close behind me. Hope everybody and everything has been good for all. Take care. Looks like flight can't be too many days away now.

stronghunter said...

Hi Jerry!

Always good to hear from you and to hear that someone has been to the nest site.

Belle has the fish--eating a bit for herself and feeding the kiddies. Actually, she is mostly eating it herself.

stronghunter said...

Eaglet grabbed a mouthful and went out of camera sight to eat it.

Lori O. said...

Checking in on the new thread.

JIM and SHIRLEY thanks for the call over - you can each have a feather today!

STEVE, thanks for the new thread!

stronghunter said...

Other eaglet managed to grab a beakful. Maybe this a lesson in survival. Time to do some grabbin'.

Hi Lori!

A new thread - thanks Steve and thanks Jim for the call over!

Jerry, thanks for the in-person nest report from yesterday!

Didn't fall back to sleep - I'm sure there will be a nap included in my afternoon.

Have been spending as much time as I can with Bandit - he's very slow-moving this morning and just seems to be wandering around. Hasn't eaten breakfast and didn't eat breakfast or dinner yesterday. He is losing control of his bowels - in the house - so we are keeping him confined to our bedroom and the deck off the bedroom. I don't care if he uses the deck as his bathroom area - easy to clean up and saves him from going up and down 2 whole flights of stairs to get outside.

Have dug up the 3 dead bushes and arranged the 5 new bushes where I want them. Denny gets the hard part - digging the new holes!

Need to get a drink and head back outside! Later all!

stronghunter said...

Yes, it really looks like Belle is encouraging the younguns to grab the food from her.

stronghunter said...

Belle headed over to what looked to be a small food stash. Eaglet grabbed some of it and ran.

Good Memorial Day Monday Morning to all! Good to see you here Jim and thank you so much again for the card.
I think that both Jim and Shirley need feathers! Good idea Lori.

I was able to view the adult and our 2 juvies enjoying breakfast.
Jim - this is the 11th week - won't be long to have them in the nest.

Picnic plans for this afternoon. Hot it doesn't heat up too much for the outside gathering - Of course for the beach people I hope the sun shines brightly all day! Of course that water is downright cold!

glo said...

Good morning all. Hoping your Holiday is spent well and safely. I think I like the term Inspirational too Jim. Think I will turn on the nest and check on the feathered kids :-) HAGD

CarolAnne said...

Did something just happen at the nest.
Walked into the room to see violent wing flapping at very top edge of nest.

Mema Jo said...

C/A - I'm not sure - When I looked at 11:15 I only see one. I have been staring at the noon position of the nest for some talons or feetsies. Noting seen so far......

Oh my - would be so easy to miss a first fledge depending where they were on the nest.........

Lolly said...

Good morning! Can see only one eaglet. Assume one is at 12 and way out of sight. Big wing flap just then and "flight" across the nest.

No major yard work today though there is always work to do. Major job that faces us is digging up and dividing daffodil bulbs. Long over due!!! Also, bought a new flower pot last week. Think I am going go buy a Penta to plant in it. Also, end of last year neighbor gave us a couple of very large pots. Have decided where to put one, possibly both and need to think of plants for them.

Lolly said...

Good morning, Jo. It is frustrating to not be able to see the top of the nest. Just once I think I saw something, but now not so sure.

Mema Jo said...

The big wing flapping an d across the nest was Shammy

Lolly said...

We are going to Laurel's today. Joey is smoking meat. I think I will take potatoes to bake. Keep it simple. Yesterday we ate too much. Just had hamburgers but lots of great appetizers, or "orders" as we call them.

Lolly said...

Wish we were on the road inside NCTC looking up at the Sycamore Palace!!!!

CarolAnne said...

From the Raptor Education Group here in WI : 2 Bald Eagles admitted . . . so far.
One a juvie whose nest tree blew down. He ended up in the Mississippi River. The other is an adult male, possibly shot.

Mema Jo said...

Well if Spunky can go off into the wild blue on Flag Day - no reason why Hedgie couldn't go on Memorial day!

Lolly said...

In my imagination I am there. So are all of you. The Eagle Express is parked close by and Capt Father Gene is busy mixing up Poop Shoot and Eagle Talon drinks. LOL I hear lots of laughter!!!

CarolAnne said...

And did you know wet shiny roads can be death for loons. The wet pavement looks like water, which its not. Once they land they cannnot get airborne again as the need to "run " across water to get airborne.

Lolly said...

Jo and CA, I am beginning to think that Hedgie has chosen Memorial da y to at least branch and that is very appropriate!!!

Lolly said...

Oh, CA, that is awful!!

Mema Jo said...

My gut feeling is that Hedgie went on her first flight and if that is true - I pray for her safety and quick return. If it isn't true == get back down in the center of the nest where we can see you ♥.

CarolAnne said...

MEMA JO - right in either case.
All I can say its was a commotion that was more than wingersizing. And then it stopped (was gone?)

Dern, where's JudyE with her picture captures?

Lolly said...

Just tried to visit the Loon cam but no picture, at least for me no pic. Went to Larry's blog. Seems that there has been no activity on the platform. Also, I did not know that they banded the female last year. Interesting!

Shammy just sneezed twice. God bless you!

Lolly said...

Oh, this is very interesting... I do believe we have had a first flight.

Mema Jo said...

I was hoping that Deb was on the forum and captured a video.....

Mema Jo said...

Leaving the room - need to get dressed - Perhaps she will return knowing I am leaving for a few! lol

I did see a baby osprey at Loch Garten in Scotland

Sandi, am sorry about the downturn for Bandit, and hoping for peaceful outcomes

Jo - Hope the Weather Plays Nicely for your outside family gathering

Mema Jo said...

One thing making me doubtful about the first flight is that ever so often I see a white downy feather come floating down = so may our juvie only went up to the attic (Tree branch above the nest).

magpie said...

Many Thanks to STEVE for the new thread and for our very own
Movin' Jim for the callover....way to get that
feather, Jim !

Mema Jo said...

She's BACK - Wasn't looking so I don't know where she came from....

glo said...

oh geeesh came right here once I saw email re Hedgie etc. I am so glad there are 2 eaglets on the nest. One of them is almost always on the launch pad for part of the day now. Do you think we have the start of branching happening perhaps.

Mema Jo said...

Enjoy your day, Sharon ♥

Lolly said...

I was watching the nest while walking. Just finished. I think she was at the edge of the nest at 12. Did not see a landing, just all of a sudden feet and flapping wings at 12.

Lolly said...

They can certainly go out of sight and still be in the nest or at least at the very edge. I am guessing we will never know when they really fledge.

Lolly said...

Lots of flaps by Hedgie and it looked like she was thinking of going up on the stump.

magpie said...

that's all I saw...tail feathers... and then soon she was
in the
major part of the nest...I did not see or hear anything else.

But Now I am breathing better.

Best Wishes to Every One on their days today...Safe Traveling prayers also

Happy Memorial Day to Everyone!
Haven't been on 'puter mucvh~~~doing this and that in & out of house.
Can only see one peaglet on cam eating.? I'm sure if one is branching, I would have heard lots of Momster noise!
Well, no Blue Angels flying over us this weekend~~boo.Did see some planes on TV at start of car races.
And there was a great Holiday PBS show last night at Capitol grounds hosted by Gary Sinise.
Well, off to finish some chores. Have a great day ☺

I did see that headless fish
come in when it did...
wow, talk about two thrilled
eaglets !

CarolAnne...your post at
10:49 this morning surely put us on alert to keep our Eagle Eyes on the nest
I had not seen it occur when it did

Lolly said...

Back from buying a few grosseries and now potatoes and eggs cooking for potato salad.

Got here in time to see they last few minutes of an adult in the nest. Think it branched 'cause it looked more like a hop than a flight.

Margy.....put out your scareslug!!! LOL I have two scarecrows in the garage. Have not put them out, waiting for the squirrels to finish building their nests. They tore my scarecrow to shreds last year as well as the umbrella cover.

Kay said...

Good Afternoon, Eagle Buds !

I see two contented peaglets ! I guess Hedgie decided a little branching was enough for a while.

SANDI, I can't remember how old Bandit is. What a tough time of life for all animals, us included !

LOLLY and JO, do enjoy your Memorial Day celebrations ! Hope it's a lovely day for our entire blog family !

Thinking of all Vets, past and present as well as our men and women serving today ! God bless them all !

LOLLY, have a nice dinner...the menu sounds perfect. Love potato salad!

KAY, Did you have a party to go to today? Happy to hear, or not hear, of Penny having seizures. Extra treat for Penny girl!

C/A, don't you just hate when you read things like someone shooting an eagle? URGH! Glad they have a facility where they can treat them up there.

LORETTA, Glad that you could get online today. We've missed you!

SANDI, how is Bandit doing as the day progresses?

Good evening all!

Wow, the nest looks MT! I see an occasional wing at noon and a little bit of a beak and body at about 3. Guess we all need to get used to seeing an MT nest. Jo thinks hedgie took off today, eh?

Did some planting, washed some windows, spent a lot of time with Bandit, read a little, took a nap.

I did manage to get Bandit to eat some of his food by putting it in my hand and then putting it right under his nose while he was laying in his bed. Denny will be calling the vet tomorrow to take him in for some tests to see what's going on. Kay, Bandit was 15 in March.

Time for dinner and some TV - will be in bed early tonight ... but only a 4-day work week!! Woohoo!!

See y'all in the AM!

but two hours later, she re-appeared...not really sure how far away from the nest she was...

magpie said...

"we could not see any part of her"

Good late evening to all.

I see there was some possible excursion into the real world today. Happily, both out eaglets seem settled in the nest tonight.

Very tired tonight. Helped Darth with yard work and now dinner is over and the scullery is in order.

JudyE, I'll check your newest attempt to help me see what's going on. Many thanks. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.

The sandperson is packing sleepy dust and fussing about some snowy conditions on part of his nightly route. Told him to just deal with it, eat a brownie, and suck up some raw honey.

Restful sleep for all. Until tomorrow...

HEY My fellow birdiers what does it mean when someone says a NON BREEDING Great egret or Non breeding little blue heron HOW do they no they are non breeding LOL that is the comments that some peeps put on my pic on FB on the GreatBackyardBirdCount I love that page and I am finally able to post since the 25th remember FB blocked me for no reason but they run it so I was punished LOL I am a bad girl

Hoda said...

Good evening all.
Except for the sad news that C/A brought over about the eagles and such I think we all had a reasonably good day.

JANET OLIVIA is a lucky girl to have you two for parwents. Very lavish gifts and very lavish plans for Birthday. I agree with C/A about when to gather and still think that not responding or backing out ten minutes before going out the door is poor manners and so this is my two cents worth!
Beautiful way of handling the situation and I can see why you are tired...I think you get the energizer bunny crown. Amazing Lady.

SANDI, it is OK I have broad shoulders!!! True honey withdrawal is messing with my brains but I was not the one who posted about young stud muffin cleaning windows...I am not telling stories on MARGY but hint hint you might read her posts and find out where this rumour came from!!! LOL!!! Love you MARGY I did not tell on you!!! LOL!!!

Sandi praying for you and Bandit and hope all goes well if you decide it is time to transition. Difficult yet 15 years is a ripe age. Thinking of you.

I see we had a branching today...the consensus is branching...some talk of a fledge yet we do not know for sure...likely branching though...

C/A I do not think they will do sales on line for Kazuri Jewellery. It is made by a women's co-operative in Kenya and they gather the mud and roll it and fire it and paint it by hand and fire it after they glaze it. They are a smal NGO. Thank you for your comments about their beautiful work.

SHIRLEY so glad you chatted with your college friend and I hope my posts on FB were OK that she was not upset by them. Sometime when I am concerned people get annoyed...
I hope it does not keep her from coming to our blog!

SHAR glad you are with Andrew and Kelsey.

JUDIE do not over do it please...putting feet up is a good idea. Tell us about colours and the carpet when you choose.

CarolAnne said...

JudyE
I think it refers to a duller color that occurs after breeding season. The duller color indicates its not "in the mood" lol

Hoda said...

I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned some more LORI...I had not done it for three weeks and every thing needed a scrub down...it was a rainy day and I also tended to laundry and the plants and did some more sprouting of seeds for freshness and worked on my Kamboucha...so it was a domestic type of a day for me...I rather enjoy it.

PAULA thank you for checking in and safe travels tomorrow.
There is a brick at The Four Seas of Mom and Dad's names...I should have told you about that...
I am so happy with the pictures you posted and was there again today. HUGS.

Hoda said...

That is a good explanation C/A about the non breeding birds and their colours as indicator. You know so much.

JudyEddy said...

WOW HODA thanks I would think the flasher the colors the more that they would attract others ODD

JudyEddy said...

CAROLANNE for the last message

JudyEddy said...

CAROLANNE so they are brightly colored and they are saying NON breeding is that backwards

JudyEddy said...

This is one of the brightly colored little blue heron that they said was NON breeding and also has some rose in it two toned one

JudyEddy said...

This is another one of the pic that I put on the blog yesterday

Boy getting home late stinks Look at the time

CarolAnne said...

Thanks for the compliment Hoda - but actually I just love to resesrch and seem to have a knack for it.

JudyE - I can "t imagine those birds to be even brighter than they already are. Maybe its just someones monitor does not have good color settings & looks dull to them.

Hoda said...

Glad you saw C/A's comment. It was the basis of my comment JUDYE...thanks go to her.

Hoda said...

Research is good C/A and then you remember it...I research and say oh I know that and then forget till the next time!!! A great source of amusement for me these days as I realize I forget more frequently than I used to !!!

paula eagleholic said...

Oh Hoda, I wish you had remembered the brick...would loved to have taken a pic of it for you.

We be home. Boys went to bed, I read to Jacob and then we headed home. It was a fun afternoon and evening. Had good food and fun!

Watched the Yellow Crowned Night Heron in its' nest. Looks like there is one baby! Got some pics and will post tomorrow. Was watching the nest when the baby did a poop shoot, Wish you could have heard Joseph's reaction. So funny! Could also hear a soft sound from the babe.

Then had another bit of action. We were all sitting in the backyard when all of a sudden a teenager went over the fence from behind us to the neighbors yard next door. Then another young man went over, Joey went running to the front yard to confront them. Claimed they were being chased and trying to stay out of trouble. They got a little aggravated and Joey let them go. Then here came two more boys, one of which had a banged up head. Claimed the first two had stolen his wallet, then they left, Joey called the police who got there rather quickly and in no time had picked up the second two. Do not know if they found them or not. Our excitement for the day.

stronghunter said...

Pretty sleepy. Time for me to head upstairs.

While we were at the movies, Kathryn tried to put some rice noodles in the disposer. . . tomorrow we will probably we calling a plumber.

Hoda, Jeanie thought your posts were most interesting and that you would be a great friend. Jeanie and I were friends through all of our college years and roommates for a summer at a YMCA conference center where we worked.

stronghunter said...

Yikes, Lolly. That was enough excitement for the day.

Oh--Kathryn said when she and Hunter were down at the city dock in Fredericksburg, they saw osprey fishing and watched a bald eagle fly overhead. There were also herons there.

Now I must go to sleep.

Lolly said...

Falling asleep in my chair. We are looking forward to staying home tomorrow. Nice and quiet. Boys have 4 days this week and 4 days the next week then school is over. Laurel has one more day than the boys.

In two weeks both Laurel and Joey are going with the church youth to Colorado. We will be keeping Jacob and Luke, (the dog!) Fun time!

Lolly said...

Night all!! SED!!!

Hoda said...

Is JOSEPH going to Colorado too? I presume so since you are only keeping JACOB and LUKE!!!

Sandi said...

Good Tuesday morning my eagle friends.

Margy, great news about Lorraine coming home again - is it today? Hope she is able to make it work this time. You are a dear friend to help.

Bandit took a long time getting settled last night. Had several small "poop accidents" on the floor in our room. Watched him stand in front of his water bowl but not even attempt to drink. His tail was down and his eyes were so sad. Then he finally circled in his bed and laid down around 11. Got up once during the night and paced slowly and then went back to bed.

Two IEP meetings and 6 transition meetings today will keep my mind occupied. Denny will be taking Bandit to the vet as soon as they can see him. I hope we'll have some answers this afternoon but I'm not optimistic.

Shirley, glad you got to see the movie...sorry it was a little disappointing compared to the other version of it....but nice you had some time with your son

Yes, today is Lorraine day, will
pick her up after work, I think she is much more physically ready this time, and the apartment has
had some "safety and accommodation" adjustments...
Thanks for all the Positive wishes, Friends

watch for Venus and Jupiter in the West/NorthWest....should be
a stunning "pairing."

I'm afraid we might have clouds and maybe thunderstorms here...

Good Morning Eagle Family!!!

Back to work on a Tuesday, so this will seem like a short, weird week for those on the job.

SANDI, gosh the school year is winding down so fast. I hope the kids and your work keep your mind off Bandit and his problems, and that Denny gets good news at the vet. I know you'll keep us posted.

HODA, sounds like you had a great domestic day yesterday. It always feels so good to get things clean again. :)

LOLLY, enjoy your quiet day today. Glad you'll be taking care of the dog - you sound excited!

PAULA, smart move coming home today instead of yesterday. Safe travels!

Thanks for the explanation, was it C/A???, on the NON breeding pairs. That's fascinating.

SHIRLEY, sorry you weren't thrilled with the movie last night. I've heard others say they liked the Redford version better.

It's wet and sprinkles are falling, maybe a thunderstorm late this morning. No weed spraying today.

We have adopted another bulldog. His name is RoRo, Chinese for boat is what I've been told it means. He's adorable, but Dalai is queen of the house, or thinks she is! So, today is my first day monitoring the two of them by myself. He's very good, cute, sweet, adorable and food obsessed! He's 4 years old. I'll have to get some pictures.

Morning Lori,
RoRo, welcome to the blog animal kingdom.
Happy bulldog monitoring.

Sorry you all missed the Sunday Morning cover feature on birding. If anyone is interested, you can go to the website to watch it.
Sandi, I hope for the best for Bandit.

Good morning.

See two large eaglets in the nest. Sometimes wish I could make time slow down so they won't leave so soon.

Margy, so hoping Lorraine is now able to be in her home again. I'm sure she is grateful beyond words for all your help and support.

Congratulations to Lori on the arrival of RoRo. I'm sure he and Dalai will be best friends.

Sandi, will be thinking of Bandit today and so hope the news is positive.

Shirley, have not seen either version of Gatsby but happy you had some Will time. Sorry about the disposal. There are things I just no longer dispose of except in the back 40 where critters can enjoy.

Hoda has a sparkly clean place to eat her healthy food. Nice. Enjoy.

Safe travels today Paula.

Lolly, being around Jacob for several days might be a good time to do some gentle, very gentle evaluating.

Okay, off for coffee and then into mischief.

good morning to all. i slept in til nearly 7. tom got up with seven @ 5 something....all i wanted to do was sleep.

have to admit, i was pretty bleary eyed this morning.

CAROL ANN< HODA, yes, it was rude to cancel 10 min before. of course the parents have no idea they were the only ones going to be there and that they really hurt olivia....but as i 've said, we've gone thru this before and, so it wasn't a shocker to us. but it stinks just the same.

i guess the reason we lavish olivia as we do as there are no grandparents to spend time/money on her...both sides are deceased, our family is small.....and this issue with the memorial day birthday....we learned a long time ago from michael, instead of planning a lavish party at some expensive place.....its easier and better spent buying nicer gifts and taking her to her place of choice for dinner.

i have to say, the aquarium restaurant was NICE!!!! spendy but nice. good place fora special occasion. and the best sea food i have had in years...broiled perfectly! and plenty of it! the chuckle was that we are sitting here watching all these fish swim in these GIGANTIC aquariums (and they have marine biologists on staff to tend the fish)...and here we are eating FISH...... lol.

anyway, from there, home for presents and tirimisu will post pix later!!!

HODA: i think YOU get the queen crown for being busy. i feel as if i can't keep up with you...not that i am trying....but wow lady!!!!

SANDI: hope your BANDIT is doing okay.... sounds like a rough night.

well, Olivia has her testing this morning so i need to get into the shower and get myself together. lots to do today, but will check in a bit later! hugs, light, love and smiles to all!!!!!!!!!
