i am a newbie to this group and not a regular since I am finding it harder to get to know people and talk back and forth blog style (I am used to chatting away on facebook groups, but finding blogs harder to chat on--that is just me and my problem, not complaining).

So, I have not gotten to know you well and i do not know the history and who everyone is, but welcome to hedgiebaby! (Was Lynne's blog name hedgie? Sorry to be dumb but I do not know all the history)

magpie said...

first she was hedgesviller
then it was Hedgie not sure if with capital or lower case H

Lolly said...

Love that Puffin! Took my ipad to the bathroom with me instead of my laptop, That last eggroll Shep would not even let us have a peep.

magpie said...

I mean then SHE was hedgesviller
then Hedgie....

that sure caught my eye before I
joined up almost 5 years ago

gotta love Hedgesville !!!!

Unknown said...

Oh, so from Hedgesville, WV? I know where that is. Many years ago I worked at the VA Medical Center in WV and met lots of Hedgesville folks

Lolly said...

Lynn was Hedgie and had a hedgehog as her avatar. One dedicated momster, our very own nurse and medical adviser.

((Hugs)) right back to you, Christie.

magpie said...

You are not dumb at all, Lydia

Yes, Lynn was Hedgie...
we have Lynne1 (grannyblt) and
Lynne2 (Lynne S)

I don't have facebook at all and probably never will, but I do understand and can certainly tell...over the years....how much
easeir it is to stay in touch
in many ways.....

You are doing JUST FINE!

Lolly said...

Lydia...we are all pacing the waiting room. :)

carolinabeachmom said...

Hello all you pip watchers! :) I hope I can watch for awhile today, if my husband doesn't want to get on. H

Lolly said...

It has been a long time since Belle took her turn, right? Maybe she is out searching for that BIG fish I want to see delivered.

I remember the time that Lib had delivered many things and the pantry was packed. Still have a picture of that occasion. The nest was loaded!!

Lolly said...

Hi Candy!!

Lynne2 said...

You'll need a "cheat sheet" Lydia....we all made them I think to keep track of everyone!

expara=ex paratrooper, Steve.

Lynne2 said...

So, Steve's FB is the NEW look and it's kinda nice. Of course it will take some getting used to...

I found a free online typing course for him to take! He'll have HOMEWORK while I'm at work...LOL!! He's a slow hunt and pecker now.

carolinabeachmom said...

Hey Lolly, and all. I have been watching at school every day, even tho I can't chat there.
Hey to Lynne 2. Margie. Jo, Hedgies baby. Grannybit, Lydia, Linda, Glo and Eagle Eye Sharon. So good to see you all here. I have really missed you all. Is it Belle on the nest now. I am done farming for now:)

carolinabeachmom said...

I am so pleased to hear a jatching is starting. I have worried about that deep snow storm, even tho it didn't stay long there.

Lynne2 said...

time for you to get your OWN computer, Candy!! Good to see you!

Lolly said...

Candy, that is Shep on the nest. See the spot on his tail and the notches in his white tail feathers?

grannyblt said...

Confused Lydia???

Whenever we refer to Lynn- it is in reference to our late friend aka Hedgie

When we speak of Lynne, it is Lynne2 whose husband is Steve, also the name of our moderator, Steve Chase.

Even though I am also Lynne, I'm always refered to as Granny.

Lynne2 said...

we have a baby i think!

Lynne2 said...

yep I do believe!

Lynne2 said...

ANYONE ELSE SEE?????

grannyblt said...

EEk..I was hunting and pecking away and it looks like we have a hatch?

Lolly said...

Lynn, thought that Steves moniker was for
ex paraplegic. LOL

Lolly said...

I did not a good look. Hmmmmm?

glo said...

I was rebooting so no video here. Will watch closely for next up which should be soon if hatch MaMa will arrive quickly I think

Unknown said...

Did anyone get a good look just now? Shep stays in the way of our view! LOL--but i sure could hear the peeping eggs!

Unknown said...

I could not tell if that was an egg slotting apart of if Shep's feathers were in the way!

Unknown said...

RAK! meant splitting

Unknown said...

Cam chatters (some) are saying one bobble is out

Lolly said...

Shep is just trying to keep us from seeing. Grrrr!

Lolly said...

It is 76 here and going up. Want to get out and dig in the dirt, but do not dare leave,

Lynne2 said...

Really Shep?????

grannyblt said...

I got notice the cam crashed..bbl

Sandi said...

Holy cannoli! 51 comments that fast!!!??? I have been sitting here at the computer for the past hour compiling a list of music videos to send to the 8th grade teachers every Friday from now til the end of the year. All of the songs have a common theme - overcoming adversity! Had fun finding them all and I think the 8th grade teachers will appreciate the laugh at the end of surviving each week with these kids.

But in that amt. of time, you guys have racked up 51 new comments??

Anyway, thanks Steve for the new thread and thanks to Jo for the call over. Now I've gotta read back and catch up!! BRB!

grannyblt said...

Got cam back, phew

Linda said...

Welcome Back Candy!
So glad you're here ♥

Costume Lady said...

LOL...I think Shep is doing face plants!

Sandi said...

Welcome Steve and Christie! I knew who hedgiesbaby was right away! =)

A baby maybe?? Need to watch closer - have been watching music videos and not paying a lot of attention to Shep.

paula eagleholic said...

Costume Lady said...

SANDI, we had an 8th grade teacher to join us for Family Friday...a lovely young lady. She teaches in Winchester, Va.

Unknown said...

Where the heck is Momma Belle?
I need her to come do switch with Shep and send Shep off fishing so we can see what has happened. Some of these chatters on the cam page are saying they saw a bobble....driving me nutz

stronghunter said...

Hi,

Wow, lots of comments over here on the new thread.

Welcome Christie! Thought it had to be you when I saw the new screen name pop up.

Thanks for the new thread, Steve.

Won't stay new for long. We have lots of watchers and posters today.

Trying to see the notches in Shep's tail. I have always looked for the spot on his head.

carolinabeachmom said...

Thanks Linda. And hello ot Wanda and Paula. AND you got that right Lynne2. I am a about to go crazy having to share this one. Time will tell.

Missed the whole thing trying to get reset and fold my dried clothes.

glo said...

When the queen isn't pleased ain't nobody pleased!!!

Lolly said...

Nick better be a good boy! Paula, fantastic about the eagle in your yard. Please...attach a camera to you at ALL TIMES!

I think it is fantastic about the music videos. Need them for Laurel.

Lynne2 said...

I'm pretty sure I saw one. BUT, this cam picture is wonky.

Lolly said...

Do heads roll when the Queen is not happy?

carolinabeachmom said...

Woew Payla, you had an eagle in your year. How lucky can you get? We have jsut had the osprey come back to the harbour. :( I sure wish they were eagles.

Lolly said...

Today I see what you all were talking about concerning the cam not being in focus. Certainly not the clear picture we had earlier.

Either Shep is nodding off to sleep or just concentrating on the action beneath him.

Linda said...

We have a HATCH

carolinabeachmom said...

Did it kind of look like the egg on the top was cracked open to anyone, or was it just a feather from Shep?

Unknown said...

Oh my gosh! Now I clearly saw that. We have one egg cracked open and a bobble!!! whoo hoo!!!!

Linda said...

WHOO HOO!!

I saw two pieces of the egg
The chick was underneath the
split egg...

stronghunter said...

I see those comments on OC, Lydia.

I have been gone. Thought George (my cat) had a bladder infection and had to make a quick run to the vet. I was right, so he is on antibiotic now.

George has lots of problems with the last part of his digestive system.

Oh yes, quite sure I saw a little head sticking out of one of those eggs.

carolinabeachmom said...

It did look like it was split in two.

Costume Lady said...

Must have been 19 of us trying to type at the same time:) ERROR

Lolly said...

Still two eggs but one is WIDE open!!!! I would consider that a hatch!!!!

glo said...

yes egg totally cracked open I can't claim I saw the bay but its out of the egg for most part.

stronghunter said...

Belle!!

Linda said...

BELLE RETURNS

Costume Lady said...

Wonder where Belle is...her Motherly instincts don't seem to be working today!

carolinabeachmom said...

Here comes Belle. Maybe we'll have abetter look

Sandi said...

OK, here we go. Belle in with new grass. Now for a switch!

Costume Lady said...

No sooneer said than done:)

floralgirl said...

Yes indeed! Now get up so we can see again!

Linda said...

Yes, that egg was too open for it not to be a hatch.

Shep will definitely get up and show her....

And us...

Lolly said...

Ok, now give us a good look at the bobblehead!!!!!!

Lynne2 said...

YAY!!!

carolinabeachmom said...

It is wiggling with the egg still on it's head

Lynne2 said...

almost there baby, come on out!

Costume Lady said...

Not quite out, yet.

Linda said...

It's moving underneath the egg.

How cute.

And chirping away...

Welcome Little One...

hedgiesbaby said...

we have a baby!!

floralgirl said...

Cool! Now get that eggshell off it's head :)

Lolly said...

Bobblehead!!!!!

Linda said...

Just saw it pop its head out...

Did anyone see that?

carolinabeachmom said...

You would think that
Belle wwould taker the shell off it's head. :) <3

Lolly said...

Look at that!

stronghunter said...

Egg is split, baby trying to get free of the shell.

glo said...

yep too cool Uploading video now

Lynne2 said...

Good to know I wasn't hallucinating! Now Belle, how is he supposed to finish getting the egg off of his head with you sitting on him!

Sandi said...

I guess it depends on ones definition of a hatch. How amazing to be able to see that little chick trying to get completely out of that egg. But I don't think it's completely free yet so again, it depends on what you consider a hatch. It's sure close enough for me!! =)

Woohoo!!! Oatmeal Creme Pies all around!!!! =)

carolinabeachmom said...

I can hear it peeping
~

grannyblt said...

Awww

Linda said...

You're awesome, GLO!!!

Lolly said...

I sent Hoda a text...she is off galavanting as she always is!

carolinabeachmom said...

I guess Belle and Shep are going to sit on it for awhile to make sure they don't have to start the feedings. LOL

Sandi said...

Lolly, check your email! I sent you the list of music video links for you to forward to Laurel! =)

Congrats to all of us on our first chick of the 2013 year!!!! =)

carolinabeachmom said...

Glo, I sure wish I could do all the things you do on line and with a camera.

Lolly said...

I do not ever remember seeing an eaglet at such an early stage of hatching.

stronghunter said...

Got a screen grab of the cracked-open egg, but a video is much better. That little chick is trying so hard to get free of the eggshell, and mom has it all tucked in.

carolinabeachmom said...

Just missed St. Patrick's Day by one day.:)

glo said...

Pretty cute video. Uploading now Sort of like an Easter bonnet :-) Bless its little heart.

Lolly said...

Well, we do know that they can completely hatch while under mom.

Lolly said...

Belle just brought flugg...It is up to Shep now to provide the first meal.

glo said...

Here is our bobble head still with attached helmet Our helmetted little bobblehead

Unknown said...

Oh i am so eggscited...glo, where do we find your vid? Momsters? i still have not gotten the blg thing down yet.

And who is the Queen?

grannyblt said...

I may actually tear myself away from this screen to get something done today I don't think any of this counts as house cleaning..... BBL

Unknown said...

Oh never mind...goody! I see your link here glo. Shoot.. I did not know we could post links here

Linda said...

Just looked up at what point an egg is considered hatched?

From Wikipedia:
Eggs laid on land or in nests are usually kept within a favourable temperature range (warm) while the embryo grows. When the embryo is adequately developed it breaks out of the egg's shell. This breaking out is known as hatching. Baby animals which have just hatched are hatchlings, though standard names for babies of particular species continue to apply, such as chick for a baby chicken. Some embryos have a temporary egg tooth with which to crack, pip, or break the eggshell or covering.

Yep, we do have a HATCH!!

Unknown said...

Granny I have done NOTHING today except to watch this computer...between Shep nest and WCV critter cam I have wasted my whole day away so far...geesh!

glo said...

12 to 48 hours from Eagle egg pip to eagle egg hatch is average time. Of course our eagles already show us over and over that they are the experts NOT us.

floralgirl said...

If you get a dust rag and clean the keyboard while you're watching, it's technically housework :) Back to work, glad we have a chick!

carolinabeachmom said...

Great job Glo. Really could get a good look of it on your video. Thanks for sharing.

glo said...

oh Lydia its not a waste at all. I spent most of the night and day watching this. Its a pretty special eaglet here as you will learn but not too much time to really tell the whole story just yet. Its CHERISHED and not even quite out yet.

Linda said...

Right at about 45 seconds you can see the little chick OUT of the egg in GLO's video on Facebook.

NCSuzan said...

Congratulations to the new parents! And to The Momsters and Dadsters! It is such an exciting event. Maybe now I can get dressed for the day.

glo said...

LOL floral girl Wow I actually HAD to do that just a short while ago.

Linda said...

I went full screen and saw the little baby!!

Sandi said...

Glo, thanks so much for capturing what we all saw and putting it on FB! Your video is great and the momsters and dadsters who weren't here to see it but who are on FB will really appreciate it!

carolinabeachmom said...

MEGAN, you have got my idea. I think I'll dust around this computer.

I just love hearing the trains in the background.

NCSuzan said...

And welcome Steve and Christie!

Linda said...

So knowing we had a Hatch right at about 2:30pm, it will be interesting to see when Bell gives it nourishment for the first time.

That shell is upside down right now and the eaglet is OUT!

Sandi said...

Looks like it's completely out of the shell now and Belle and baby have said hello!

glo said...

Sandy and all hopefully even if you aren't on facebook you can se our little helmeted bobblehead video. Magpie was able to see a video even from work this morning :-)

Lolly said...

Oh, Megan! You had me laughing out loud big time with that comment, Wahooo!

Glo, fantastic video. Those who are not here right now will be so grateful to you!

Oh, look, the is completely out of the shell.

Lolly said...

Lydia...the Queen is our very own Lynne2. She is always saying what she will do when she is queen. So, I do think she will make a great Queen, lol

magpie said...

Well Congragulations NCTC,
Shep and Belle...

this is a Happy Day...

Sandi said...

Found this with a Google search. It's about chickens but should apply to eagle chicks as well.

"Chicks, just before they hatch, draw into their abdomen the the nutrients in the egg. Rich in food value and liquid, the yolk provides the newly-hatched chick with all it needs to eat and drink for up to 3 days."

Belle won't wait 3 days and am willing to bet that Shep will show up with at least 1 fish today! That boy knows about fishing!! And he knows there's another mouth to feed!

magpie said...

I trust someone has put the information somewhere where NCTC Steve could see it....
please and thanks if not already done, I can't do that fancy stuff

Unknown said...

Yep! Just saw the new bobble without the helmet!
Well Linda, bobble should be okay without nourishment for awhile since he/she has just eaten the egg membrane, but I hope Shep brings in a big fish! Time to stock the pantry!

Unknown said...

Yes Sandi, that is what I have always been told by the mods from other eagle sites...about the initial nourishment having come from the egg and yolk...so they are good for awhile :)

Lolly said...

I am now going to venture outside and I am sure I will come back to 101 comments. :)

Have heard from our Hoda. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers, she is having a bad day. SHE IS FINE, just someone dear to her has problems.

Unknown said...

and thanks Lolly. LOL I need a doc of who is who

Jewels said...

Bobblehead has made his or her presence!!! Tears of joy and tears from FB. I am so estatic. Mom is smiling those Irish smiles today!!!!

Jewels said...

Now eat lil bobblehead when Mommy feeds you and get strong. I need you strong and healthy!!! For you have a much bigger purpose in our lives than you know!

Jewels said...

Welcome Sis!!! Bout time you get your buns here!!!!

Linda said...

Yes, I knew that about their nourishment, but I also have watched Belle feed the eaglet drops from her beak pretty early on in the first day.

I just didn't know how early because some of the hatches we have witnessed have been late in the evening.

Just curious, since we still have a good bit of daylight time here today!

Linda said...

Sirens...

Unknown said...

Here is a link (if this works) written in terms for children to understand on the hatch process. I think it is great for adults too.

It is written about whooping cranes, but would apply to eagles and other raptors/birds as well. Hope you like it

http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/crane/VisualizeEgg.html

glo said...

I have sent Steve a message with helmetted bobble head link on fb, It is the only way I have of making contact but that should work.

Belle seems to be hearing something that is alerting her....

It sounds like chirps, but it might be something else...

Could it be the wee one?

Hoda said...

I will go read back.
I have the nest up now.
Thank you LOLLY for news of the hatch.
Ma Belle is tracking something in the air...here she is saying back off. She takes off the bubblehead is still stuck with part of the egg shell. So so so cute.

Linda said...

Lots of shaking...

SHEP RETURNS...

Lolly said...

What happened eaglet all alone, heard Belle fussing from across the room?

Linda said...

I wonder what all that was about?

Jewels said...

DADDY being so gentle, did a egg role, nestling down now

Hoda said...

Wiggles down after a very careful approach to the cup...
I see no food in the nest...has any been brought in? Has the little one been fed.
I must read back.

Linda said...

((((( HODA )))))

Whatever it is.....
We are here....
We love you....

Hope your day gets better...

Especially knowing we have
a new little eaglet now!

Unknown said...

What a great daddy Shep is! Awww--bobble is active! ♥ Belle did not stay very long...

Linda said...

HODA - No food has been brought yet. No feedings yet.

The little one is but an hour old now.

glo said...

Belle was watching him or something going on. I think she wanted he to come to the nest. How cute was is first view of the egg.

PattiO said...

Congratulations Everyone! Shep is soooo cute and gentle tucking the little one in. I thought he would have come back with a fish though.

Lolly said...

Shep was really very careful settling in on the egg and eaglet. I think Belle saw Shep arriving WITHOUT food for the pantry and was really fussing at him. Now, she is off to get the pantry stocked.

glo said...

baby does not need food for several hours no worries.

glo said...

I do totally understand why Belle may want to stock the pantry. I want to see that nest lined with fish!!!

Jewels said...

Not sure HOW I am going to go back to sleep with all this excitement!! And darn, a still cam at work, but hey at least I can keep my eye on them!!
Congrats Eaglet Momsters and Dadsters! What a proud and happy day it is!

Lolly said...

Have not made it outside yet, Ate sone lunch first. Now to go outside.

Is Shep doing a faceplant? Maybe.

Lori O. said...

BIG ((((HUGS))))

Unknown said...

Okay..I MUST go do something. AT LEAST get something out for dinner. I have done nothing but watch cams all day!
And yes, no worries...new hatches have all the nourishment they need from the egg for a little while.

But ye, need to bring in the pantry provisions for later...soon will be 2 mouths to feed!

Unknown said...

What an EGGsiting afternoon...see ya all later. Was fun spending time with you today

stronghunter said...

Lydia,

Re: Cheat sheet--I just got a little notebook and started making a list of everyone on the blog. I made it alphabetical by putting a couple of letters on each page, then alphabetized it by the screen names. Left room for notes about each person on the page. I still have that notebook, though it is falling apart now.

stronghunter said...

We are almost to the first split on this thread. Wow!

Jewels said...

Glo, I always sneak peak at FB, but we are not allowed to have our phones out at work... and IT dept has made it so hard to see or watch anything on the computers at work. Barracuda filter filters out even most reading material anymore. They don't trust us at all I guess. But I will be sneaking some time in when I go make my lunch and go to the bathroom!!! LOL Thank you, and you too get some shut eye!!

Jewels said...

Thanks Lori, could not have missed this!!!

Jewels said...

Alrighty, going to try to get some more sleep. For those who have my cell, if anything happens, text me!! Love you all!!!
