Tuesday

New thread.

Update:  I have a bit more time now so I thought I would fill you in on the cam issues.  First off, the power supply issues were cased by a combination of losing our standard power feed and having to rely on the solar panels that have not been charging up the batteries well.  With all of the rain and cloudy weather, that was causing continuous problems with the cam feed.

Second, we are in a major finance system transformation at NCTC.  This means we have not been able to do procurements for more than six weeks, and will not be able to get rolling again for several more weeks, or longer, if we don't have a permanent funding bill for the year.  This is why we could not get up in the tree in August, as we usually have.  We now have to plan to go up in the tree in early November, and we are hoping it can be done in the normal way this year without a crane; the tree looks healthier than it did last year.  Once we get up the the tree we can work on the sound and clear any suckers that have grown (and blocked the cam).  By then we should also have a fully dedicated power source from the barn.

I cannot speak for The Outdoor Channel folks, but I believe their decision to go offline for now was due to the frustrating amount of signal outages.  Can't blame them.

The other variable still is whether or not we get a more normal nesting season.  Only time will tell that one.

So hang in there.  We are thinking about the cam issues, but as I've said many times, the work being done on the cam is beyond the day jobs that our tech folks have to tackle.  We're doing the best we can.

Steve thank you so much for coming on and updating us on the work that needs to be done for the cam. Prayers that you won't need a crane to get up in the tree to fix the sound and the growth blocking the cam. Prayers for the fully dedicated power source from the barn. Prayers for the techies to be able to get this work done. Due to they do have day jobs as you have said. Steve and all others we appreciate this work that you are honoring the eagles with. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Good morning, everyone.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Many thanks to Steve for the excellent update on the power and finance issues this morning.

I think the cold snap predicted for So Cal has come...today: cloudy with a low last night of 62° and a high today of 64°. The lows will be 10-12 degrees lower for at least a week.

We also had some light rain last night, and more will be coming, I think.

C(°ٿ°)D Jim

hedgie said...

Rain for you is good, Jim! We've had more than enough here!! Wish we could get it to veer into TX!

Heading out. See y'all later!

I am off to YOGA and errands.

WOW----fireball and sonic boom of a meteorite was seen/heard in Harpers Ferry today! They don't think it hit the earth----so guess that means it just fell apart in the upper atmosphere??!!!

Hoda said...

Back from a good yoga practice...Too wet to run errands so I came back to the flat.
The Prosecutor in the Amanda Knox case says he will appeal!!! The man is bonkers...I hope he loses his appeal for the corruption charges on a previous case...90 dyas before the reason is given by the appeals court for the acquital...There is an extradition treaty between the US and Italy, so it will be dicey as to how she would not have to be flown back to Italy...Foreign Affairs will have to interferre, the Secretary of State, Hilary Rodham Clinton, will have to find a way...I can not see her going back for an appeal process. She says she would like to go back to Italy to visit...

Hoda said...

Lynn how close are you to Harper Ferry and did you hear the boom or see the fire ball?

hedgie said...

The man is totally insane, Hoda. Somebody in that government better rein him in fast. And Amanda would be foolish to EVER set foot back in Italy! Maybe she should go to a country that doesn't have an interdiction agreement!

Watching the news and reading in the commercials
OK what is WOW ??? I am in the dark!

There must have been real issues with face book yesterday it all started with everyone getting the old look to the news feed back and of course that didn't last long at all and then not just Geula disappeared but 4 others did but they are all back now ODD I say

While I was home for lunch I lost cable, TV and the phone so I called Bright house and told them I noticed my neighbor had BH over and was wondering if that could have interrupted my service and she thought not well while I was waiting for her to come back on the phone it all came back so I guess it did have something to do with it Well just now as I got home the cable man was waiting in my driveway Now wasn't that nice that he waited but he didn't know I was up and running

WANDA what a good menu at the soup kitchen

JUDIE I hope the cats are doing better

WOW on the news 387 people did not show up for juror duty in Tampa and is the judge is PO'd big time that is 40% who were suppose to be there I guess he is going to prosecute these people ordered all of them to come to court on Nov 4 to tell him why they felt it unnecessary to show up or send in the return part of the summon with a excuse I cant wait for that to resolve Back to reading and the news

According to Allegany County 9-1-1 officials at about 4:30 this morning folks throughout Western Maryland awoke to a sonic boom created by a meteorite that moved through the area. 12 calls were made to Allegany County 9-1-1 beginning at about 4:22 am from Frostburg to Oldtown. Callers reported hearing a loud boom and seeing a blue or green light flashing through the sky. County 9-1-1 officials from around West Virginia claimed they received calls about feeling the sonic boom from Carpendale, Capn Bridge and Wardensville. Early reports are that the meteorite may have allegedly crashed somewhere in Virginia. But Virginia Emergency Management officials say they have had no meteorite reports. NASA officials have been unable to confirm the reports at this point.

Hi Eagle Pals ! Just doing my daily check in, per my promise. Very, very tired. Was away from home for three hours today, only for a Cat Scan---why is that so debilitating ? Arrrgggghhh. Of course I have had to drink copious amounts of water so I won't glow in the dark and that fluid keeps me on the move, so to speak. Results won't be in until tomorrow afternoon and with this particular doc I don't expect to hear from him unless there is something needing immediate attention. I'll call his office tomorrow or Thurs. a.m., but that's sometimes an exercise in frustration. Anyhoo, I'm okay, just too tired to read back posts right now---hope to catch up tomorrow.

Did read Steve's message and it helps to be on on what's up !!

Prayers for any and all in need !

Hi all! Great report about the sonic boom and meteorite. Cool!

So, here we are in Santa Fe... and it is raining! lol We did go to the plaza, walk around, look in shops, and found a cantina. Had a margarita and watched the last of the TX Rangers game. Jack says "Do you realize we have seen more rain today than we have seen all year?" True..........

Not going to any balloon fiesta tomorrow! Do not know what we are going to do, however, right now I am enjoying a glass of wine and thinking about meatballs for dinner. Do not want to send Jack out in the rain to grill. Too windy to put down the awning.

THANKS TO STEVE....really appreciate his explaining what is going on. So happy our Sycamore tree is looking good!!

Good evening everyone. I am home but Sissy and Tom are still at the hospital. Her lipase was elevated so they did a CT scan to check for pancreatitis. The CT scan was normal. They are now calling in the surgeon to see if possibly it could be early pancreatitis or if the surgery she had before, the Nissen fundoplication, may have been wrapped too tight. Waiting to hear from them now because if they don't admit her or send her home, I have to go back with her so Tom can come home and rest before work tomorrow.

Hi all! Rain has slowed but still hear sprinkles on the roof. We have had a fun evening just the two of us giving each other a hard time.

Paula, to answer your question...the balloons do not go up in rain or wind. We plan to go to Taos tomorrow. We will see what the weather is like for Thurs or Fri. Special shapes go up both mornings and there is a "glow" both evenings. That is when the balloons are tethered to the ground, but they fire up and glow in the dark. Fun!

Would like to see some of the competition as well, but will just have to wait and see.

I am now 2 hours behind you. About to shower and go to bed, though it is only 10:30 here.

Loved Taos, Lolly. Bought my beloved Indian Story Teller there. Also saw my first and only Road Runner near there. What a treat that was!

Soup Kitchen was a goody tonight. 46 guests and we did have enough Stuffed Peppers for everyone, even a few SECONDS! I opened up 6 large cans of Beef Stew and offered that, instead of peppers to the children, and all of them chose the Stew:)

It's so distressing to hear about Sissy...I'm praying that nothing serious is found and perhaps a more bland diet will suit her innards, for now!

Praying really hard for you, Jo, to have a thumbs up report after your scan♥♥

Hi, Gang,
Sorry to be getting here so late!
Have missed quite a few of you. We took off on an adventure this morning, fairly early. We drove all the way around Lake Tahoe! Golly, at times the road was pretty narrow, just 1 lane each way, and VERY winding! No guard rails, either! Actually kind of scary, since the posted speed limit was 55 mph! We just went slower, and kept pulling over at every opportunity so people could pass us.

Have read back some on the blog, and see that Sissy is back in the hospital! Prayers for her, for Sharon, and for Tom and the whole family! Prayers for the EGD tomorrow.

Prayers for you, too, Jo! Will certainly be praying for your CT scan.

Prayers continue for Judie & Darth, and the two Bombays. Hope things improve rapidly!

Good to hear from Lolly & Jack! Nice that you are getting rain, even if you had to go on the road to find it!

Steve, thank you for the new thread, and the much appreciated detailed info about the live cam!
We surely do appreciate all that you and the other NCTC folks do to keep the cam running as much as possible! Many thanks!

Ms Bookworm said...

We did stop at the Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge, as planned, but the restaurant was closed for lunch. They didn't open for dinner until 4 pm, and we did NOT want to have to drive back to the timeshare in the dark, or in the rain! TOOOO scary! Got some pictures, but now can't find my USB cord to the camera. Might have to wait till we are back home to show you all any pictures! My avatar is a pic I took on our last trip. We went by this same place again today, though. We went to the Blue Water Bistro in South Lake Tahoe for dinner. YUM!!! Nice atmosphere, right on the lake with a spectacular view, and excellent gourmet food! By then it was about to rain, and the lake looked rather cold, choppy, and ominous. As we were eating, 4 skeins of Canada Geese came swooping in, and landed on the lake, close to the shore. Beautiful! (But unfortunately, too dark by then to get pictures!) The low clouds were beginning to move in quickly over the water, and the wind was getting stronger (about 30 mph), so I bet those geese planned on spending the night. By the time we left the restaurant, it was raining, blowing hard, down to about 40 degrees, and miserable out!

Ms Bookworm said...

It was so nice to come back to the timeshare and get comfy in our cozy jammies and lounge around! I have some leftovers of my fish & chips for tomorrow, too.

Gosh, just checked the weather report again for here, and there is not only a severe storm warning, but they are predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow! (No significant snow accumulations, though--thank GOD!) Predicting a high tomorrow of 42, and a low of 30. Good thing I packed my long johns!

Ms Bookworm said...

They predict more rain and another inch of snow tomorrow night. Hope there are some good movies available! We don't really want to go sightseeing in that kind of weather.

Well, Kubby is already watching TV through closed eyelids, so I guess I'll quit before I do a face plant!

Prayers have been said for everyone, and for all creatures. Making sure the porch light is on. Enabling both security systems. Sleep snug as a bug in a rug, everyone. God bless, and goodnight. Love all of you! :o]
P.S.--the bug in a rug I mentioned is NOT a stink bug OR a bedbug! Eeeew! G'night, all!

Lori O. said...

No, I'm home again...actually at work now. Long day yesterday.

How are the kindergarteners?

DanaMo said...

They keep me laughing on a daily basis! They are also frustrating. It's so hard to start a new year. It takes all year to get them where I want them to be, then I have to start over. That's the thing with kindergarten, they come in knowing very little, having little to no structure. It's like starting with a new born. Kindergarten is really their first introduction to "real" school. Preschool is play, these days kindergarten is real work. The new first grade they say. Thank God for all the hugs...that's what gets me through the day :)

Lori O. said...

I've heard that kindergarten is a lot of real school work for kids now...when did that start?

GOOD MORNING...
MARGY, wanted you to know that every one of the books and article of clothing that you donated is GONE! You did a terrific job of sizing everything and folding so neatly...our guests are going to be spoiled and think that ALL CLOTHING should be done up as nicely as yours:) I try to hang clothing by size, but don't always have time. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
All of DANA'S donated items are gone, also, as are the items of our anonymous donor of a large quantity of toiletries.
Our guests have started coming in a half hour early so that they can dig into the new donations, but in the process, they get in the way of our preparations. So, we had to put up signs telling everyone that they wouldn't be admitted to the dining room or Closet until 4 o'clock.

There's that handsome Count Dracula an Midnight the cat:)

Speaking of the cat, we think the black, stray cat, who lives in our woods is going to have kittens again. We're going to have to figure out someway to catch Mama and give her away or spay her. She is feral and that is a difficult situation:(

Judie said...

Good morning -- better morning that is.

Wanda, so glad the soup kitchen was, as usual, a great success. Oh, no thank you, two panthers are enough. Hope you can find a place for the black kitty.

Wanda, wishing GG an easy time today and quick, quick pain relief. Please give her a hug.

Quickly saw Sissy is back in the hospital. Hope she's okay. Maybe an update I missed. Prayers.

Kay, hope you are more rested and the CT results will be happy ones.

Hoda, I see my request for the sandperson to visit was honored. Glad you got some rest.

Judie said...

I know I've missed a lot and apologize for overlooking anyone. Now the update.

Was truly exhausted yesterday and after a nap then dinner, I just went to bed.

The night was relatively quiet. I wake when I hear them moving around or jumping on the bed. Hissy fits occur when they meet. I believe it is the smaller Naomi that is the instigator. Both have eaten some but very little. Both litter boxes have been used but, nothing in nothing out. As I type this, Stella is lounging on the desk in front of me and Naomi is slinking around my feet. Interesting that both are becoming very affectionate but are quick to bite if they've had enough petting. I now believe the real reason for wanting to give them up is that they do not get along. Maybe they never will but I hope we can improve their level of tolerance. Of course, we need to adjust as well. Not easy having to panthers around and the need for increased energy requirements.

Taking some time off. Going to get my "do" did then have an exam to try to finish before tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

stronghunter said...

Hoping that your day with the panthers is a good one, Judie.

hedgie said...

Hoping that Sissy's procedure is over---it was scheduled for 8....she did not have a comfortable night fromwhat she posted on FB. :(

hedgie said...

Jo, hope your CT goes well! I have mine coming up soon....if the gal at the drs. office gets off her butt and gets it scheduled! Always a bit of scanxiety involved.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Good morning all. Just spoke with Sissy. They have not taken her yet for the EGD. Tom is there with her. She is hurting pretty bad. The pain is like a squeezing pain around the top of her stomach. Not sure about the jaw pain today. Her pain meds last about an hour and they have it scheduled for every 6 hours.

hedgie said...

Andy, sorry your vacay weather isn't better, but sounds like a nice, cozy place to hunker down in! Enjoy....even tho' I know you miss Emma!

Judie, sounds like things are settling down....figured they would! If Stella is laying on the desk, I would say SOME calmness reigns!! Adjustment period for you all.....the two of them will soon figure out how to avoid/elude each other and choose their particular hiding places....it just takes time. Just don't want YOU being attacked!!

Lori, glad you are home---whirlwind trip, huh??!!! Enjoyed your videos!

Wanda, hope GG's microwave treatment goes well!!

hedgie said...

DanaMo---time spent with your wee ones lays the foundation for their educational future, and you can be so proud of that!!!

Someone asked about Liesl. She is FINE!!! BUT a bit more demanding that she was. "She wants what she wants when she wants it!" DIVA!!
We have one more day on antibiotic. And tonight is GRADUATION!!! Not sure how well she will do, because she has not been very good at her lessons since she was sick. :(

hedgie said...

Still no update from Sissy or Sharon...

Almost time for me to head out for the new "do." Will catch you all after lunch.

JudyE, glad you got the day off for your truck check-up Monday!
