Are you feeling anxious now Shirley? Or you just want to get back to sleep?

stronghunter said...

I wasn't as frightened as I was on Tuesday, but it was unsettling. The critters did not seem concerned, though. So much for the theory they sense something. Dogs were sound asleep. Cat was awake, but he heard me come downstairs and figured I would be good for a little milk.

stronghunter said...

I want to go back to sleep. I am okay.

Lori O. said...

There was a time when I was staying with friends in quake prone Northern California and set the USGS as my home page.

I hope you can get some rest.

Must feel weird that Hunter is going back to school and you are officially feeling retired! YEAH! You've had a big year, Shirley.

stronghunter said...

Just noticed that one of Germanna Community College's new buildings will not re-open for classes until at least spring semester because of earthquake damage. They are trying to find space for the classes that were to meet there, including science labs. Tough problem.

I have taught for Germanna, though not in that building. Have been hoping to teach there again eventually, after a break.

stronghunter said...

I have been to San Francisco. We noticed the equipment set up to detect earthquake movement.

stronghunter said...

Going to say good night again and try for some sleep. I hope the earth stays still.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for your kind words, Lori. See you later.

Lori O. said...

The nest is still very, very dark, but it's not too early to hope (and pray) for a visit this morning!

Lori O. said...

Light on the nest now.

It's JudyE's day with Jordyn so she may not be up early - though I hope so.

Lori O. said...

WHAT A GREAT DAY! TRUDER LANDS IN THE NEST!!!

aw I missed it! Let's hope that means they will start coming again. I've missed them.

Good morning Lori.

Lori O. said...

Hi DANAMO!

How was your dinner with Aric last night after that crazy day he had?

stronghunter said...

Good morning! Time to get Hunter going. I need to be decent so I can walk him down to the corner for the 8:15 bus.

DanaMo said...

We had a wonderful dinner. We visited for a couple of hours, dinner, ice cream and some shopping. Then we took him back to the dorm. I couldn't even watch as he went in the building. I thought I was going to be okay, but as we pulled away the tears flowed!
I posted to FB this quote that came to my mind. It was MY quote in my senior yearbook, but exactly how I felt yesterday.
"Baked in an enamel shell, I weep, I rage, I care. Yet outside I am smoothly controlled. Please to not come too close, enamel chips easily."
I was holding it together so well, and then...well the enamel cracked!

DanaMo said...

How weird does it feel not going to school, Shirley? I bet it's going to be very strange at first not to be writing lessons plans and reading papers (you taught high school? or middle? I can't remember).

JudyEddy said...

Hi DanaMo,

Did you have memories of sending him off to kindergarten for the first time? You survived that one. :)

Have a good day.

T-Bird said...

Good morning eagle momsters and dadsters. I had problems getting on the blog this morning. Did anyone else?

T-Bird said...

Say Mattie off to school this morning. She is going into the 8th grade. Justin had already been dropped off before his mother came up to get Mattie. I hate that. I really wanted to get a picture of him too. He goes into the 11th grade.

T-Bird said...

Saw not say : (

DanaMo said...

I don't remember kindergarten being such an issue, plus he wasn't 7 hours away. I really connect with Aric, so I will just really miss him. I'm excited to see Kay. That will be alot of fun and once I'm home I will be distracted twith so much to do before going to school on Monday. I've left a lot undone at home! Here I'm just sitting in the hotel playing on the computer.

I would like to go for a run, but looking outside of the hotel, I'm not sure I am in a place where I could safely run outside. Lots of highways. May have to go on the treadmill, but that just isn't as enjoyable.

Lori O. said...

Sorry DANAMO. I know I really don't like being cooped up in a hotel either. I understand. The treadmill sounds like a good idea, then you could probably take a nap to pass the time and rev up again.

Lori O. said...

Hello THELMA. Sorry. I hadn't scrolled up far enough to see that you snuck in!

You okay this morning?

Lori O. said...

My avatar today is the surviving Black Vulture chick.

It's not a full body view because he's standing on the roof of the barn where he lives. He's up there everyday now. This is the cutest he's ever looked.

hedgie said...

Good cloudy morning. No rain yet, but looks threatening. I got the debris from yesterday's breezes blown off the deck.

Lori, BV chick is looking good! Love that inquisitive look on his face!

Thelma, sorry you didn't get your dou photo. Justin and Mattie are in same grades as my Jess and Jenn! They started Mon. and seem pleased so far.

Hoda, I'm good----I always stay in tub for at least 30-40 mins....so I had just finsihed bath when I posted the Doris greetings!!

It is also Mary Margaret's birthday, but she doesn't blog---and, of course, neither do Ceil or Mits anymore. But, for US, I'll say ♫ HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MM!! ♫

Dana, sure can understand your emotions---perfectly normal! And love your yearbook entry. Who knew how appropo it would still be in adulthood?!

JudyE--yea on your videos!!!

BTW--the bathing eagle was on FB and I copied it to here last night....later found that Paula had posted it on FB first!

hedgie said...

Shirley, how did the bus stop scene go??
I wondered if you felt the after-shock....I didn't, but haven't talked to anyone else up this way to see.

A morning nest visit! Maybe they are back to routine after vacation!!!

stronghunter said...

Bus stop event went fine. He had told me that I did NOT need to walk him to the corner. But I was dressed just in case.

He wanted to have Flash outdoors. Then about halfway to the corner, he turned around and said that he did not want to ride the bus; he wanted me to take him because he did not know anybody, but I encouraged him, and he went on.

I did walk down to the corner across the street, just kind of following, but I did not cross the street. Other parents were with their children. (This IS elementary school. The other children were smaller than Hunter.)

The driver checked each child in and waved at me as she pulled off. After I came back in, a bus came down the street here. It may have been his bus, so he might be able to catch it in front of the house. We will see.

Lynn, I definitely felt the aftershock at about 1:00 this morning.

stronghunter said...

Pictures of bus stop event on FB.

Lori O. said...

Ahhh, SHIRLEY what a nice Grandma you are for Hunter! That bus story is very sweet.

Yes, LYNN, we did have A NEST VISIT THIS MORNING! I was so excited to see them since I missed them last night... and for the past week and a half!

JUDYE, I loved the eagles bathing video. A few of them have dirty looking (Juvie) heads like Truder.
Thanks for sharing here since I missed on FBook.

LYNN, thanks for checking out my vulture chick avatar pic. I have the bigger one of it and it's much better, but had to crop it down for an avatar. I think he's adorable in this photo.

stronghunter said...

I thought the USGS said there was an aftershock at a little after 5:00 this morning, but that might have been that odd time they use and was really the one at a little after 1:00.

stronghunter said...

Very nice vulture pic, Lori.

Judie said...

Good mid-morning to all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DORIS AND MM. Wishing them both many more.

Exciting to know the eagles have visited again. Maybe checking to make sure the nest is still there.

Wanda, glad GG is okay and unaware.

Shirley, a 4.5 is pretty strong. Damage in Culpepper seems extensive in some areas. Glad Hunter managed his bus ride. Sure hope the day goes exceptionally well for him.

Lynn thank you for the eagle video and Judy is nominated for video champion.

Hi Thelma and Lori. Nice picture of the vulture.

Wishing everyone a terrific day and lets hope Irene heads out to sea.

Shirley, glad Hunter got on the bus....ooooooo I hated those days. Mattie's first day is today too. And DanaMo....awwwww!!! Such and emotional time for everyone, these first days of school!

Love the Vulturette picture Lori!

Glad to see the news of recent nest visits. I always seem to miss them.

Hope everyone has a great day.

No rain yet.....cleaning up some of the ruined mulch....or trying to! Charlie is bringing a fresh scoop.

stronghunter said...

Need to water plants. Might want to do some cleaning in the garage today. Just might want to get both vehicles in there this weekend.

stronghunter said...

You really got a lot of work created for yourself with that job on your house, Lynn.

stronghunter said...

Gonna water plants. Just learned that we have the possibly of flash floods today. Nothing to do with hurricane, either. Good grief, Lolly. We are going to want to send you some of our water.

stronghunter said...

Posted some pictures on my blog. Outer Banks traffic and Hunter's first day of school. Now I need to get to work around here.

Getting to be time to stock up on some storm essentials. Isabel knocked out power for several days. My car is fully gassed. Not sure about Kathryn's.

stronghunter said...

One last-minute purchase I made that was helpful during Isabel was a bag of ice. We kept it in the freezer and put our food there.

hedgie said...

Hey, Jo, you said what I was thinking to DanaMo!!!

Speaking of school lunch.....I think Carolyn said that it would cost over $60 a month for the girls to buy lunch at school. NOT going to happen.
I am fully in favor of school uniforms for ALL. I think it would eliminate a LOT of problems.

stronghunter said...

Hunter said he would buy his lunch, but when I was in the grocery store, I picked up a camouflage lunch box and he said, "Okay, you can buy it." This morning, he said that he wanted to pack. Might as well, he said, since I had bought the lunch box and some Uncrustables and Rice Krispy Treats.

School uniforms: Not a bad idea. Of course, I heard lots of objections from most high school kids, though not all of them.

Some also think that if students have to wear them, so should teachers. I would not have really minded, except that kids do need to understand that it is truly okay that adults don't have the same restrictions they do.

I would especially like to see uniforms that DON'T include underwear showing above the pants.

Sparked by Shirley's post. Hope it doesn't offend anyone...A friend posted it to fb.
I just had to share this...To all you guys who "sag" your pants and show your butt and underwear... did you know it originated in prison? It was a signal to the other MEN that you are "available". So if you want to keep going around looking like you're "available" for another dude to "tap that"... then you just go right ahead.
And, oh...BTW... it's called PBS... Prison B**** Syndrome. ~;o)

He will always be your first born and you will always have this bond with him.

STAY SAFE EVERYONE WITH THIS HURRICANE

Congratulations to all the parents and Grand parents who saw their kids off to school this morning...I loved SHIRLEY's story of simply following behind and keeping an eye out for him. You are a GREAT Grandma Shirley.

Hello, Everyone! See we had Eagle visits for HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREETINGS TO DORIS & MM!!!

We are getting some heavier rain now. Did not feel any aftershock at 1 AM.Just saw on Noon News most of report Lynne2 wrote. They were saying to stay away from rest of seashore, too. So, Paula, Stay Home!! I think Hoda asked about Paula's Paradise---it is in Southern Maryland near Crisfield, The MD Crab Capital!!!

JudyE, thx for the great videos!! And thx to Paula & Lynn for theirs!
Sounds like a bittersweet first day of school for som. DanaMo, hope you feel better about it soon! And great pics, Shirley, of Hunter's day!
Lori, you can almost say a vulture is Cute. Guess we like ALL babies!

stronghunter said...

Margy, I do hope the court appearance goes well for you. I checked the Martinsburg newspaper and saw a story about a high-profile trial that is the one I am assuming you are talking about.

I am sure you will be happy when this is over with. Prayers.

stronghunter said...

I am going to guess that Lori's avatar is the first one on this blog of a young TV.

It is kind of cute, isn't it?

Hoda said...

Thanks Loretta about PAULA'S Paradise location. I keep watching the news of the hurricane and it looks not so good. I wish you all well.

Hoda said...

Thinking of you MARGY and the court appearance. I had to do that as a witness for the prosecution when I was a school teacher. A fight had broken out in a school dance and we had had to phone the RCMP. I did not like it at all. I am sure you will be good at it do let us know how it went for you and thanks for checking in, in the middle of the day.

Kay said...

Good Afternoon Eagle Buds ! Happy to say I'm feeling good, able to eat to regain strength and all systems are go for the DANAMO/Kay meeting !

LYNNE, I hope the stunt that former landlord pulled is a blessing in disguise. It gives Steve a chance to make job finding his sole focus and we'll cross our fingers that it works !

LYNN, Wow is right on the disabled Eagles and their fun in the water ! Who know having one's house painted could result in so many other jobs and expenses ! Grrrrrr.

ANDY, thanks for that special late evening prayer ! It worked !

LORI, what a great visit you had with Belle and Truder ! So happy it occurred at a time when you could see it through !

DANAMO, allow those tears, they are normal and healthy ! Too bad you had to run into some of Indy's dirty ol' letches on your walk. It does show you still have that "ooooh lala factor", however !

stronghunter said...

I went to court to testify when I was a young teacher, too, Hoda. A student came into my classroom and beat the daylights out of a boy in my class. The parents had charges brought against the aggressor and asked me to testify. It turned out okay, because the victim, who had been a reluctant student became my best friend after that.

GRANNYBLT, I'll have to put Lisbon and The Spread Eagle Tavern on my day trip list. If you ever get closer to Columbus give me a holler !

DANAMO, "Dog Mourns" brought a huge lump to my throat and big tears to my eyes ! How touching. The origin of the baggy, butt crack revealing and altogether disgusting trend is good to know. When I pick Seth up from school I often go early just to watch the kids as they emerge. There are kids, like Seth, who look like normal, regular guys n' gals, of course. But, the swaggering baggy panted goons with body mutilations and outrageous hair styles and colors are a sight to see ! It's as good as a trip to the zoo just to see em'. ☺

Dana....I do remember the crying when Michael went away to school. I cried a lot!! I think it is something about the first one leaving. Also, Michael was very self sufficient and I knew it was an end of an era.

I cried too, when Laurel went away to school but not as much. Also, I knew I would be talking with her more.

Wish Candy and Jim were not staying at their home. Wish they were heading away from the storm.

Wait, Lynne is a mother of 4 legged children.

Lori O. said...

Am I correct in assuming this will be Redskins Central tonight?
Gametime 8:00 in Baltimore.

JudyEddy said...

everything stays the same except billing and I need to add my phone number to the momsters list that I was sent who do I send it tooo ?? I

I like the cable Telephone because the phone number and persons name shows up on your TV if you are watching TV don't have to jump up to see if you don't have the phone with you But if you are watch a DVD it doesn't I just tested it and Jordyn is watch the wiggles DVD and it didn't show until I turned station to 4 not the video output channel

hedgie said...

Yes, ma'am, Lori, you assume correctly! Except that when it 's the Raven's....I'm sure there will be some devisiveness!! "Sister team" rivalry!!

hedgie said...

Send it to me, JudyE!

Now sitting here with ice on my back. Worked in the kitchen for a while, making pesto. Realized uh oh, my back is protesting. Jack rubbed the sore spot for a while and now I have ice on it. Guess I will sit for the rest of the day.

Jack finally got his permanent crown this morning. Tomorrow is his last day of therapy, and he leaves me Saturday. Get my husband well and he leaves me. lol

Severe thunderstorm in progress. Could lose power at any moment. Lights flickering.

Hunter got home before it hit, thank goodness. I was ready to drive down and meet the bus if necessary.

Supposed to have dinner out with Will tonight. I want to take a shower, but not until this stops.

Lori O. said...

Lynn, I was wondering if we had any Ravens fans on here.

DanaMo, I hope you're feeling better about Aric going off to school. Will you dine with him again tonight? Add my name to the 50 I'm sure you already have who want you to give KAY a hug for them!

Sun is actually shining now!

PAULA - do you still think you may go to the beach? I, a big worry wart, hope you stay home, safe and dry.

HODA, did you yoga, row and write today? :)

Lolly said...

Here is a cam to watch Nags Head Fishing Pier and the beach. Should be interesting to watch.

Okay, everyone get a shovel...quick! We gotta dig a channel from the East coast to Texas. Now!

Lori O. said...

Hey LOLLY, did you break the chain of consecutive triple digit temperatures?

JudyEddy said...

I got two shovels in case someone doesn't have one LOL

Lori O. said...

JUDYE, for some reason I can't imagine there's one shoveless woman in this group. Helpless? NEVER!

Lolly said...

No, the temp here at our house right now is 100.

Lolly said...

Yea, for Judy! She has two shovels ready! Wahoooo!

Lori O. said...

Wait - when it comes to all the techy video stuff you do - I"m helpless! OUCH that hurts! lol

Lori O. said...

LOLLY, IS THAT 59 OR 60 DAYS now?

Lolly said...

Actually, Lori, I think that one day last week broke the chain of consecutive days. Right now we are just short of having the most days ever over 100.

Lolly said...

I think today is 59, but not positive.

paula eagleholic said...

Lori..love the vulturette pic

Dana...funny about the whistling run :)

I cried when I left Michael at college...happy yet sad emotions...and of course when he graduated

Probably won't go to beach unless neighbor needs help with her boats...going to call her tonight

Getting my do did now!

Lolly said...

I should say we are about to break a 30 year old record, not ever. However, we have already broken one record...this summer we have had the highest low temps at night. I am thankful that we are away from the city and therefore a wee bit cooler (is cooler a word?) than what is reported each day.

paula eagleholic said...

If I do go it would be down Friday night and back Saturday...

Lolly said...

Wish I could get my do did! Do done? Barbara my hairdresser retired. Actually, she had to because of her health. She has cut my hair for about 30 years. Waaaaaaaaa! Did have another girl cut it when Barbara broke her hip earlier this year and like her, but she is on vacation now. No do doing for me now!

Lolly said...

Uh, oh! Jack has run to Wal Mart. Kitchen sink stopped up and he needs a snake. Isn't that what you call one of those things? He stopped it up....not me!! Whew!

Lori O. said...

A hurricane warning has been issued for coastal North Carolina!

hedgie said...

Now MANDATORY evac for RESIDENTS on OBX and OC. Mits is getting condo maint. to bring in their balcony stuff rather than trying to make a quick turn-around trip down to OC.

Costume Lady said...

lori, you are doing a great service by raising that vulture
They are like Nature's sanitation wokers which are needed to complete the Circle of Life in the bird and animal kingdom.
Also, I'd venture to say that none of us have ever seen a baby vulture before:)

hedgie said...

LOL...if you count a snow shovel I have three!!

Glad Jack got his final crown, and sorry your back is flaring up, Lolly. You must have missed the sad saga of Lori's BV's last week. A raccoon killed one of the chicks...:(

JudyEddy said...

Headin out to have dinner with Angie

hedgie said...

Good luck finding a snake, Lolly. THey all looked at me as if I ws crazy when I tried to buy one a few years ago. Around here, anyway, the only place to get one is to hire a plumber. ARGH!

Lolly said...

He is working on the plumbing. I think he got one at Wal Mart, Lynn.

Lolly said...

If there is now a mandatory evac for OBX, does that mean Candy has to leave? Hope so! They are surely to be without electricity and that is not fun!

Lolly said...

Beverly has a request on fb. She needs some friends to like a site for her. Go to fb!

hedgie said...

Jessica saw the either the nurse practitioner or the PA...they think it might be hormonal. They gave her shots of pain med and anti-nausea med, and are going to try Rx strength Motrin for a week. If no improvement, then a cat scan of her brain.

hedgie said...

Good, Lolly!!! LUCKY!
Yep, clicked on Sissy's ear bud thingy! And Glo's collar thing for Dex!
Since Jim is a county volunteer, don't know how that work....I would feel better if they leave, too.....MTBR.

hedgie said...

I'm surprised that traffic isn't heavier leaving the OBX (watching traffic cam). Guess it will pick up later tonight.

Lolly said...

She says they are NOT leaving since he is driving that van. Prayers girls, prayers for Candy and Jim!

I got this press release today from WCV, NX is going to try again!:

On Tuesday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m, the Wildlife Center of Virginia will be releasing two Bald Eagles, NX and KS. I hope you can join us for this special event! The eagle release will be held at Berkeley Plantation. Late last month the Center did its first-ever eagle release at this historic estate – and we’re going back next week! The plantation provides eagle-friendly habitat and is just across the river from the James River National Wildlife Refuge – 4,200 acres of protected land that hosts one of the largest Bald Eagle roosts on the East Coast.

The release is free and open to the public, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to see beautiful young Bald Eagles up close.

Additional information about Berkeley Plantation, including directions, is available at: www.berkeleyplantation.com/visit.html

I'm off to bed - no nap today, so it's an early night for me. Prayers for all those in the path of Hurricane Irene and for those unwell humans and critters.
I love you all ♥. Goonight!

Texas HS football starts tonight. Temps on the field are unbelievable. They say coaches are taking precautions, how about just postponing? Good grief!

It is official. Our 59th day at 100 or over. 10 more days and we make the record. Groan..... Send me the hurricane!!!

Oh, and yes, Lynn....a snow shovel will work. Let's go dig!!!!

Even though we only have the still cam I still wished they would show up this evening. I was soooooo happy to see them last evening. Could it be two in a row?

Hope everyone has battened down the hatches!!!
Would you believe, Fubby was talking to son, Dennis, who lives about 1/2 hr. away & Den was planning to go camping with tent trailer AT PT. LOOKOUT, MD!!!!!I overheard part of the conversation & made F call him back! No answer, but left message.
And hope Candy and Jim will get out of Dodge.

Will try to be brief (fat chance), but must share something. I haven't been on here much as have been on phone & searching Internet for addresses, etc. The "boy next door" passed away TU PM.He was about 44 yrs. old. The Bishop family moved in when Michael was about 3 years old. He was a little younger than my daughter, had two older sisters. One sister is still next door--bought & stayed in house after folks passed. Everyone was shocked! He was married and had 3 daughters & lived in Elkridge, MD now. We were also surprised that girl next door is trying to make the arrangements. Seems couple split up at end of last year. Sis said cause was brain bleed & he had high blood pressure but gave up pills as he didn't like side effects. His father had heart attack at age 45, quad bypass & lasted 20 more years. Michael was on life support because older daughter's 16th B'Day was today! They had to remove him TU night. He was an organ donor.
Sherry & I recalled one old story about when kids were little. His Mom was a great seamstress and had made him a Batman cape. Mike came over one AM, wearing his cape to see Sherry. She went to the door still in PJs and I think he had a small piece of paper w/him & announced to her, "these are the STRUCTIONS"! Meaning, how the play events of the day would go. To this day, we use the word STRUCTIONS!

LYNN is PAULA'S Paradise House part of St. Mary's? I looked at a map of Maryland and wondered which area she is in..I hope all the creatures there are safe and make out OK with this hurricane. Worried about them. Also the people there. God keep them.

Hoda said...

Oh Loretta so sad about the gentleman. I am sorry he passed and what a blessing that something good could come out of it since he was an organ donor.God receive his soul.Must be hard on the sister.

Hoda said...

Oh I found Crisfield, Maryland on the map and it is right out there, looks exposed. Prayers for all the creatures great and small in PAULA'S Paradise.
