We are getting some pretty good gusts now, but nothing like Isabel.

I can use my phone to send a message on FB. The application I use for the blog is not working.

Daisy is pretty nervous...we saw some lightning when we just took them out (trying to get them out every time the rain lets up a little) but WE didn't hear thunder. She acted like she did, though. Our wind is still really not that bad, thank GOD!

oh my Lord...another death from a tree falling on a home.

Think I'll shut it down for the night. Hopefully get some sleep. Hopefully still have power in the AM.

Good night, prayers for all, and stay safe.

Kathryn works very near Quantico, and she saw the fighter plane, and so did Rus. He said that people were terrified and running because they saw fighter planes and did not know they were there to protect them.

Hoda said...

If the blog goes down LINDA, and I hope it does not, I will be looking to hear from you on FB.I hope STEVE and his family are alright. Not having a new thread makes me worry about him.

stronghunter said...

I'm ready to head upstairs, too. Hunter and Kathryn have already gone.

Definitely hearing the wind blowing.

If we lose power and dsl service, I won't be on FB or the Blog! I don't have one of those "smart phones" with 3G or 4G!

We are just on the edge of where the west edge of the cone of tropical storm strength winds, depending on which model you look at. The winds could be around 40mph or lower, so we are hoping the power lines don't come down!!

If we do lose power and dsl, I will try my cell phone and ask my son to post something for me on my FB page!

These trees around here are so tall and full of leaves, that worries me with the winds!

Linda said...

Goodnight Lynne and Shirley. Praying that you stay safe and with power through the night.

Candy says:
It is turning into night time on the good old Outer Banks. The wind is still blowing pretty hard out of the northwest. I looked out earlier and saw that the water was just coming over the bulkheads acrossed the street. High tide now and I looked out to see that the water had come up and acrossed the road and is coming all around the houses on my side of the road too. Never saw it like this in all my years here.

I am at Laurel's on my phone. Have my computer but apparently Joey changed the password. Grrr'. O need to read the blog to see how everyone is doing. Boys are in bed. I will have to tell you about Joseph's soccer game!

Linda said...

Lynn - Glad to see you and learn you're still with power! Stay safe tonight!

hedgie said...

I don't think there would be any problem with the blog. It is in cyberspace---not dependent on electiciity or anything that anyone here involved would be able to do anything about. As long as we have power and internet, we have blog unless Google has major trouble.

This has been a total non-event here. Glad to say that no rain on western VA/Tenn border---race has been rain-free!

hedgie said...

Wanda---you have email!!!!!

Thanks Lynn for posting Candys comment. That is scary!

♫♫♪ Happy Birthday, GENE, ♪♪♫ !!! Hope you've had a great day !!!

Sounds like a brief, but good visit with Belle and Truder this morning ! Hmmmm, were they busy with hurricane preparedness ?

PAULA, A Hurricane Party---now that's the way to ride one out !!!

WANDA, what a tense situation for Karla and hubby ! How did you all celebrate the Captain's birthday. You may have said, but I had so much to skim.....

LORI, those kittens are a riot, I know ! It's going to be hard seeing each of them go to a permanent home, but satisfying, too ! Love the pics of young Black Vulture ! He's actually kinda cute !

My kids in NJ say they are prepared as they can be for Irene's impact there. I worry because they have two huge trees on their property and losing either of them would be devastating and dangerous. I hope they're staying in the center of the house or in the basement.

Saying prayers for all in need and particularly for those in Irene's path tonight. Hope you can get some rest before daybreak !

♥L♥I♥B♥E♥R♥T♥Y !!!!!!!

Linda said...

It did look like the rain just stopped just east of where you were. A perfect circle just bordering your area. That's a good thing.

You never know with these systems which way it will "wobble."

Glad to hear Candy is okay, but wonder how things will be in the coming days.

We're heading upstairs to try and get some sleep before Riley wakes us up in fear......when the rain starts. Poor Pup! Maybe we'll give him something before we go to bed to settle him down a bit.

If I don't come back tonight, wishing you all a good night and praying everyone in the path fares well!

Love and hugs to all!

May God Bless and Protect Us All and All those critters we we dearly love, in our homes and beyond..... xoxo ♥♥♥

For those of you who are still kind of new.....speaking of 9/11....Paula's late ex-husband was a firefighter in I think Brunswick, MD--they had the only truck small enough to fit through the tunnels into t he Pentagon courtyard....he was with the crew that was commandeered to go there. There was a chapter in a book devoted to their service, but now I can't remember the name of the book (I gave it to Shannon). There was also stuff in the book about an Arlington, VA firefighter on scene who lives in Ranson, where Shannon and Christie live who was also a county volunteer with Shannon. Shannon was on-duty in Fairfax Co. that day, but was not re-assigned to the scene.
My BFF Jan (now in CA) was a DOD employee---even tho' her office was in Roslyn, VA, she had a daily meetig at the Pentagon.....she had not yet arrived when it was struck.

PA Nana said...

Well, not much from the storm yet. Expect the major rain and winds will happen when we're asleep. If we get too much rain for the sump pump to handle or the power goes out, we'll be floating down the street. Wave as we go by.

Lori the TV pix were great. As someone else said, you have made us look at them with a different opinion. Now, how about some pix of the kittens? You know I love cats and would love to have more, but I live with a someone who never had a pet growing up. He does tolerate my 2 cats and they can make him a softie. He gives the treats and they know it.

They are funny at treat time. Jim usually gives them a treat about 10 pm each night and if he runs late they come to his chair and stare and prance around until he takes notice. If he moves, Missy will lead the way to the kitchen with her tail high and puffed out. Bandit just follows the crowd. ;o)

Was trying to watch both football games tonight. Steelers won but the Pats just didn't play well. They didn't bring their whole defense team to Detroit. Boy, could they have used them tonight.
With 4 min. to go it's Lions 43, Pats 10. Brady did not have a happy face tonight.

hedgie said...

Diann, float this way if you do and I'll pull you in!!!
Funny about Jim and the cat treats. They are SO smart!
Local stations are nothing but IRENE.....thank goodness the race was also on one of the extra ESPN channels! Doubt that the football games were simulcast anyplace else but their assigned network channels...I didn't even try.

LYNN your last post on 9/11 is full of the GRACE that sees us through things. It was not there time and it was meant for others to lend a hand. Karma plays a lot in my understanding of such things. Karma is never punitive, rather an opportunity to learn, to lend a hand, to be of service...THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT.

PA Nana said...

Lynn, I'm worried most about losing power since my recliner is remote controled. We purchased it with my shoulders surgeries in mind. I wouldn't be able to pull the leg rest up without it.

Guess I could just stay in my bed (recliner) until the power is restored... ☺☺☺ Jim's home and could feed me breakfast, lunch & dinner in bed. haha .. another funny.

PA is under a state of emergency per our govenor.

Hoda said...

LYNN I saw your pictures of the bucks and the racoon in the same frame. I am pretty amazed that they were so close. The anlters are wonderful and I thought of you saying LIESL was stuck by the window looking at a buck and I smiled. Pretty wonderful pictures thank you.

I'm back, too, Lynne. The weather alarm started screaming. I came downstairs hoping that it was not a tornado. It is a flood warning. I think we are okay here.

stronghunter said...

Hi, Everyone,
Boy, took quite a while to catch up on the blog again tonight! No wonder--lots happening.

Hot & humid here again today. Not supposed to get better until Tuesday.
Think it's caused by a tropical storm in Baja California.

So very grateful to hear that everyone seems to be OK with Irene storming away! Praying for everyone's safety.

Lynn, very, very interesting report about dog food. In a month Emma will be a year old, so considering the options when we switch to adult food.
She eats Blue Buffalo lamb & oatmeal puppy kibble now--gets 1 cup in a.m., 1 cup in p.m. We switch every couple of months to Blue Buffalo chicken & brown rice for puppies.

Glad to hear that Lolly's back is feeling better--praying that the trend continues!

Praying for Nilla, too--hope she gets to go home soon!

Many, many prayers for Lynne & Steve!
Hang in there! (((HUGS)))!!!!

Lori, love the BV pictures! Hope they are OK through the storm.

Continuing to pray for all those on the prayer list. Praying, too, that the Sycamore Palace will survive the storm without damage, and that our eagles will stay safe. Glad to see that they visited the nest again!

Well, getting pretty tired now, and my eyes are not wanting to focus correctly. Think I will call it a day. Have said prayers for everyone, and for all creatures. Making sure the porch light is on and burning brightly for those seeking shelter. Enabling both security systems. Sleep tight, everyone! No bad dreams of Irene allowed! God bless, and goodnight. Love all of you! :o]

Good Morning Greatest Eagle Family!

I haven't begun reading posts yet, wanted to check in first.

I hope everyone is safe this morning. Lot's of rain, wind and leaves that have been blown off trees here, but nothing big blew away.

It's still dark and I've got all the outside light on...that's another good thing, we have power. All the digital clocks were flashing so there were some breaks in service around
2am.

When it gets light I'll go out and see if there's any downed trees. I do have a chain saw, or two and really great neighbors, so it should be fine.

Wish I could see the nest and know the nest and eagles are okay.

Going to read now...Prayers for everyone's safety, those with two or four feet, bless us one and all. Praises Lord!

Lori O. said...

SHIRLEY I can't believe the story about your mother and her chimney. I'm the same way, never go upstairs!
Bless her heart. So glad she wasn't hurt.

Rain is slowing down, but the drops are still big!

I'm so grateful to have this wonderful group of Eagle BFF's that will even indulge my love & concern for the vultures born here. Thank you for jumping in and loving this surviving little creature with me. Your comments have all been wonderful. ♥

Lori O. said...

LYNN, your young bucks pic is so cute! Love the one of the deer looking at the raccoons, too.

They are adorable!

Your Missy sounds like my Burry. He hears any bag crackling and he thinks it's the treat bag!

Lori O. said...

HODA said it well, LYNN. That was very kind of you to relay the story of Paula's husband at the Pentagon. I didn't know that. Thank you for sharing the story.

We love you HODA! Thanks for all your support and concern during the HURRQUAKE! Very funny name, Lynn!

KAY, so glad to see you're okay and got on with your new lender laptop! Give SIL a kiss on the cheek from us.
Let us know what good deals you find on a new computer. We should form a co-op!

Lori O. said...

So funny reading LYNNE, SHIRLEY & WANDA up at MY early hours this morning! Hope you all got some rest.
This is second morning in a row I've gotten up at 4:30.

Oh, LINDA and KAY, I heard you each groan. LOL !

JUDYE, thanks for posting the cat in the Two Harbors nest video. I always love seeing a visual in the nest so we get a better idea of how big it really is. Was surprised at how high the back wall is on that nest.
You know, it said Two Harbors, but wasn't that the West End Nest?

DanaMo said...

Yes, Lori, it is good to be home. Boomer is at my side. Frisbee is sleeping with Monte and me since Aric isn't here. But life is good. School starts tomorrow. I just hope I am ready! I was just reviewing my plans. I take the kids on a school tour each year and this year we are going on a jungle safari to search for animals. I will have pictures of animals all around the school at people and places they should know and they will collect a coin. This way they get to meet all the teachers, the principal, and find all the "specials" classrooms. Always fun.

Good morning JudyE. Just turned the news on now to see what's going on.

OUR low was 86 yesterday has something to do with the dry air that the Irene has pulled over us

It wasn't bad here at all, I think the nest should be fine. We had some rain and wind that I heard overnight and even now the trees are blowing a bit, but I don't even think I lost any branches. I have lost branches in a bad thunderstorm. The nest should be okay, at least I hope I'm right!

JudyEddy said...

that is the link that I also put up a couple of times I love it because of all the different maps and on the bottom are camera of our area that way you can see how pretty our area is also Sorry to repeat but didn't know if you had it DANAMO I do like the other link because you can take your cursor and move to where ever you want to go on the map the Intellicast weather active map

Lori O. said...

Hi DANAMO & lurkers!

I'm back. Had to feed the cats and then I just start fussing around cleaning things and mediating cat squables.

Linda said...

Good Morning! Reporting in with intermiteant power. We started losing power at about 4am. It comes and goes, so we're still thankful for that.

We are getting pretty strong wind and heavy rain right now. These huge trees around the house are scary right about now. The yard is cluttered with leaves, but the more leaves that fall off, probably the better. That way the wind can go through the trees easier.

Gonna catch up. I see many of you still have power?

Lori O. said...

The rain has stopped and the winds have slowed. It looks like it does after a big thunderstorm with so many shredded leaves all over everything.

I've seen several Hummingbirds in the past few hours and can hear the Blue Jays with their loud squawking. Oh, and a few Gold Finches flying around, too. Keeping an eye out for the vulture chick to pop up on the barn roof.

Lori O. said...

JUDYE, thanks for the video instructions. I would like to try that. :)

Lori O. said...

Good morning LINDA! I'm glad we still have power. Wasn't bad here. DanaMO said Annapolis, MD, got several inches of rain, but that's good because last night they were expecting a total of 11 or 12".

Lori O. said...

Think I'll turn on the TV now and catch up... Lurk mode.

DanaMo said...

Just sitting here eating my yogurt getting ready for Mass.

Will probably run into school today, just for good measure! LOL!

Lynne2 said...

Good morning! WE STILL HAVE POWER!!!!! Glad to see Lori, Linda, DanaMo and JudyE have all checked in and have power and no major damage.

I don't think we are out of the woods by any means because we are surrounded by woods and the wind is still howling. My rain gauge (a quart sized Won Ton soup container wedged between bricks) is full. Didn't even get it out til about 6:30 last night. So from then til now we've had 4". My guess is that overall, we had five.

No major damage here except to my poor butterfly bushes. The small one spit in half, the larger ones are bent to the ground and I can't tell if they are broken or not. Two crazy dogs on leashes prevent further inspection.

Lots of leaves and small branches are down. The birds were all sitting on the shepherd's hooks this morning patiently waiting for the return of food! So the feeders are back out and I hope they stay put. Hummingbird Wars are proceeding as usual!

Lynne2 said...

Shirley you won't believe this....a woman on the eastern shore, in Centreville (where my former mother lives) was killed by a collapsing chimney in her home. A tree fell onto the house causing it to collapse. So far, I think that is the only MD fatality. SO very sad.

stronghunter said...

Good morning!

Power is on.

The rain and wind have stopped.

The sun is shining.

I put the finch feeder back out. I felt guilty seeing the little finches waiting and looking for their food.

I see that the live cam is still out. I really think the nest and eagles are fine, though.

stronghunter said...

Oh, Lynne, that is awful about the woman being killed by the collapsing chimney.

stronghunter said...

Well, we now have over 900 posts.

Lynne2 said...

yeah. Steve posted something on FB at some point yesterday so I was hopeful that he'd pop over and give us a new thread. Oh well....

You have sunshine already! Rain still falling here but very light;y now.

Lynne2 said...

Lightly I mean.

Lynne2 said...

Not exactly sure where he is, but he may have lost power too and can't get here.

Lynne2 said...

The power company "tree" contractors were all over this area last summer cutting limbs around power lines and I think that really helped a lot! Not much to do if a whole tree comes down on the lines though. I'll be staying out of the woods here for many days to come.

Lynne2 said...

well, Steve is still asleep and the dogs have been out and fed and gone back to be. Think I'll go back up and lay down and watch TV and maybe get a morning nap in!

hedgie said...

Good Sunday morning, eagle dudettes and dudes.
Gloomy, still raining.....as it apparently did all night. Not heavy---just steady. Breezy but not really what I consider windy.
Lots of leaves down, but dead ones. Don't see any lumber anywhere that wasn't already down. I'm sure the nest is just fine.

Morehead City, NC beaches in sun, sea looking fairly normal. Dune erosion as to be expected. Waiting to see some footage of the OBX.

hedgie said...

DanaMo....love your student school safari!! What a unique idea. Very good way to acclimate the little ones to their new world!!

hedgie said...

Scary stories about the chimneys.
Shirley---so your Grandma didn't even know??? Did she hear the noise?
Thankful that my chimney is EXTERNAL....if it fell, it would just land in the yard---it would tear out a chunk of roof, but not crash through!

Linda said...

Good to see everyone checking in with reports of no damage! Our winds are still pretty hefty right now, but our gold finches and hummers are on the hooks in the front covered area looking for food, too. We put the feeders out front, but not out back yet.

Getting a major gust right now. We had 5 turkeys stroll across the front yard about 30 minutes ago (2 Moms and 3 chicks). Saw them lay down in the hay field when we got a gust of wind. Smart turkeys!

We were up much of the night with Riley. Dennis finally went down into the basement with him, which helped. We moved 2 of our recliners down there yesterday! Good thing!

I've got a nasty headache and just want some more sleep. Maybe I'll try to sleep on the couch. I'm kind of scared to be upstairs right now!

stronghunter said...

Hunter is one funny kid. We told him to go upstairs and get dressed. He went upstairs and took a shower. Then he called downstairs and asked if he was supposed to take a bath.

When he realized he hadn't been told to, he said, "Awww, well, it's okay that I didn't use soap, then." The kid sometimes has to be sent back to bathe again because he will skip the soap.

When he was in kindergarten, Susan and I had lunch with him. When we noticed he was eating with his completely filthy hands and asked about hand-washing, he said, "We don't have to!" I think kindergarten teachers might want to have hand-washing time before lunch.

Someday, he will outgrow this. For now, we have to say, "Wash your hands. Use soap. Dry with a towel." In his mind, it is only necessary to do these things if he is told to. And then he has to be inspected.

We have been told that he is all boy.

The battery backup gives us a few more minutes. We'll see how long this one lasts.

Love you all...... ♥

We just had to send him back upstairs to change clothes because he had fetched his shorts out of the dirty laundry. I am not sure where he got the shorts he is wearing now.

OBX pics coming up---beautiful sunrise!!! All looks relatively calm. I'm sure Candy is relieved! Need to check FB to see if she has posted yet.

hedgie said...

Candy says:

Good Sunday morning to all my FB friends and my family. Well we survived another storm. I think we are lucky as we still have power. It went off around 2 this am, but was back on this morning. Taking a look outside, still have a lot of water in the front yard, but not like last night...

stronghunter said...

Lynn, it was my mother whose chimney was taken down by Hugo. I didn't see the mess, but there were bricks and soot everywhere.

hedgie said...

Lori, this week the TV is Cornell's Bird of the Week.....close enough to a BV to say COOL to celebrate vultures, huh?!

stronghunter said...

She said she heard all kinds of noise in the night, but she did not get up to look. I think she was too afraid to do that.

hedgie said...

Put a pic of the OBX sunrise on my Lair.....sorry it's not any bigger.

hedgie said...

Oops, Shirley...sorry...your Mom!!

ALso need to correct a mistake I made about Hazel in DC (which was the last 'cane to hit DC directly)...it was '54, NOT '55! So I was 5!

Lori O. said...

SHIRLEY, so glad to see you made it through and didn't lose power.
FUNNY STORIES about HUNTER! Reminds me of my brothers when we were kids.

I'll have to check out the Cornell link, Lynn. Thanks for the heads up.

Remember when we saw Belle with drops of water on her beak? I just posted two pics on my blog of the Black Vulture chick drooling that reminded me of BELLE & PO'J. I don't know what causes the water droplets though.

stronghunter said...

She lost phone service and power for several days, but her next door neighbor had phone service, at least. I called them to check on her.

hedgie said...

Oh-oh, Linda....hope it comes right back on!

Laughing about Hunter, Shirley!! All boy, huh??? Do you remember how Rus and Will were at that age?

Irene did NOT decimate the Ocean City beaches!! They replenish every four years...and it appears to have held!

hedgie said...

Guess I'll pull out the umbrella and go get the papers.

stronghunter said...

I would have been 13 in the summer and fall of 1955.

Lori O. said...

I would have been a twinkle in my father's eye in '55 -- had to say it LOL!

stronghunter said...

I do not remember Rus and Will doing all of the things Hunter has done. Of course, they were two of four children. Maybe I did not notice as much.

stronghunter said...

You are a mere child, Lori.

Lori O. said...

LOL Shirley. My Mother would really love you for that!

GOOD MORNING...

Nest Update

08/20/11:
We decided to end the season early due to renovation work at our Visitor Center. Please read our Osprey Cam Web Log for the full details, and see our update to the Osprey Cam Gallery.

We hope to be back online in mid-October when construction is done. Thanks for a great season

paula eagleholic said...

LOL Shirley, you should have left that post on here! I saw that yesterday, too.!

paula eagleholic said...

Guess the evac in OC is over, found this on the inlet cam website

Ocean City is open to everyone at noon and all of our hotels will be open for check in at 3pm today (Sunday August 28).

We can’t wait to see you in Ocean City!

paula eagleholic said...

Cannot get to the outage map for delmarva power, guess they are a little overwhelmed

hedgie said...

Yep, Paula, BWO info was posted back on the 20th or 21st!! You must have missed it while you were in Paradise!

stronghunter said...

Maybe so, Paula. I saw that it was removed from You Tube, although someone re-posted it. I did not want to cause any problem. Anyone who wants to see it just needs to Google "Weather Channel Flasher."

Wonder how many drinks those guys had?

magpie said...

Good Morning Eagle Pals..or at least, some of you....glad to read from those here that things are
"relatively okay"

I have family in NE with some power outages but holding their own okay...bro Fred and sis in law in CT said they have never seen this much water and they have been on the planet a long time

Glad FuzzleMa the Other Irene is not in Massachusetts right now !

hedgie said...

Actually, contractors goofed in their roof protection, and rain came in and ruined all of the center's computers, etc.

stronghunter said...

Hunter is out on his bike. I need to get dressed and go inspect my property.

magpie said...

Ditto that, Prayers for the Bears, Shirley!

And yet another round of interesting Hunter vignettes....
I just asked James if he uses soap when he showers...he says yes...
and when he is here, is immersed in loads of soap bubbles in the tubby....
nothing quite like a clean kid !

xo

stronghunter said...

Perhaps we need to purchase bubble bath for Hunter.

magpie said...

wondering about Judie...
and my sister Annandale Anne...
hope to hear from one or the other of them soon....
and also thinking about Megan of course...and how her gardens have fared in this deluge

going to go try to ring up my sister Anne

Good wet soggy Sunday morning! Bless my
trees as they are standing tall! Still getting rain and yard is full of leaves.
Some House Finches are at the feeder along with 2 wet squirrels.
GD up near Philly doesn't have power.
Inconvenient to say the least.
Candy and Jim are alright! Steve Chase
has power and is ok per FB.

Hubby is heading out to Mass but I elected to stay home. Yesterday was a very long day as the weather developed

stronghunter said...

I can understand that you might be very tired, Jo. I was really tired after the earthquake. I still had to shop for Hunter's shoes, and I was truly unnerved by the quake, probably more so because Hunter was with me and I felt the need to protect him.

stronghunter said...

Well, Susan just called and wants go go ahead with our planned crab feast this evening if we can locate fresh crabs.

I do not know if they will be available, though.

hedgie said...

Sun is out!!

Good to see everyone checkig in!

stronghunter said...

Susan and Kathryn agree with me that this hurricane was not nearly as bad as Isabel.

No live crabs available. I am not surprised. Feast postponed.

stronghunter said...

Steamed crabs are available, however.

hedgie said...

Be careful, Shirley...if you find crabs they may not be fresh!
Good luck!

paula eagleholic said...

Lynn, thanks for the BWO info, I do recall that post from them about the water coming in...

Shirley, aw they removed it LOL

magpie said...

some tree limbs a'saggin'there but nothing has crashed down yet,
Darth's good too...

last week-end before school starts Tues for the Professor..

paula eagleholic said...

Shirley, if you do find live crabs, go thru them when you are putting them in the steamer, toss any dead ones.

magpie said...

I'm going to disappear,
will be working my way back to Berkeley Springs with James in a little while,
by way of Back Creek to see how high the water is so far [don't worry, we won't be swimming]

Hope to find through the day's posts that all is going to be okay with everyone...

Whoa Babe! Glad I didn't flub on the Aug b-day list - I need to get Sept
out there... the 4th of Sept will be here before you know it!

I am still open to suggestions as to how to publish b-days of the Momster/Blogger groups.

Lolly said...

Good morning! I am home. Had major armadillo damage to repair. Do they know the mighty armadillo hunter is gone for a few days? I think so!!!

Have caught up on the blog. See that all is well! That is good.

Now I have to run into town to pick up the cake and fresh flowers for the table. Where is Megan when I need her. Not here in TX for sure!!☺

Have a great day and I will be back after the party this afternoon.

JudyEddy said...

Home for lunch and to do some reading LOL Hey I noticed a few peeps are talking about rain gauges well a real rain gauge has a small opening, you can't just use any containers it will not record it accurately at all, that why the hole in a real gauge is small, you can fill a kids pool fast in a rain storm or quart jars but they are not accurate at all so buy a cheap real rain gauge the hole is only about a inch or smaller all depends on gauge

JudyEddy said...

wow this blog will be a thousand by the end of the day I Hope STEVE is ok not getting a new thread does have me worried also I need to go check facebook to see if he has checked in there I'll be back in a sec

Hoda said...

Good morning /Good afternoon everyone.
Relieved to read that those who chimed in are doing well and power is on and off, but nothing more serious. I am glad this seems to be on its way out and you all are blessed with the GRACE that saw you through it.

Laundry is done and I am off to yoga and groceries. There is a Memorial for Jack Layton in the park this afternoon and I think I will attend that, at least long enough to sign a book with my respects.

See you all later...Stay Well.
Hugs.

hedgie said...

Lolly, so sorry!!! Yep---they knew the great white hunter was gone! Enjoy your party!

JudyE---thanks for repeating the rain gauge info. I have tried to point that out before but don't think anyone saw it!!

hedgie said...

Jo, don't know what you want to change about the b-day greetings, unless you want to just publish it once a year to cover all 12 months. If so, doing a spreadsheet might work for you.

hedgie said...

Howdy, Hoda! Getting your laundry done reminds me that I should, too!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

DURING THE NESTING SEASON OF 2011, I, ALONG WITH MANY OTHER CRUZERS, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE SANTA BARBARA AREA, WENT THROUGH SOME VERY MAJOR WITHDRAWAL PAINS AND ANGST, AS WE WERE UNABLE TO FOLLOW OUR ‘”FAVORITE” AND DEARLY ...BELOVED COUPLE – K-10 AND K-26.
WHEN IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT THE “OLD“ NEST, IN USE SINCE 2006, WOULD NOT HOLD UP THROUGH ANOTHER SEASON, WE ALL AGONIZED WITH THE REST AND BREATHED A BIG SIGH OF RELIEF WHEN THE PAIR WISELY CHOSE TO BUILD A NEW ONE.
WHAT FUN THAT MUST HAVE BEEN TO WATCH AS K-10, THE MASTER NEST-BUILDER, SCRAMBLED TO BUILD NEST #2. AND WHEN IT BECAME OBVIOUS TO ALL THAT NEST
#2 WAS NOT BEING USED, DR. SHARPE AND CREW SEARCHED FAR AND WIDE, AND HIGH AND LOW, AND FINALLY LOCATED THEIR FINAL NEST #3.
BUT WE CRUZERS DID NOT GET TO WATCH ANY OF THE USUAL STAGES – WE MISSED THE NEST BUILDING, THE BONDING, THE EGG-LAYING, THE HATCHING, THE FEEDINGS, AND THE GROWTH. WE TRIED TO SATISFY OUR APPETITES BY WATCHING THE SYNCHRONIZATIONS OF THE PAIR K-81 AND K-82 AT TWO HARBORS AND WITH THE MELODRAMA AT WEST END WITH K-51 TRYING TO USURP K-01, UNSUCCESSFULLY, DESPITE HIS TRYING HIS BEST.
SO IT IS WITH THESE THOUGHTS IN MIND THAT I HAVE DECIDED TO FULLY FUND A NEW CAMERA AND SET-UP FOR THE NEST OF K-10/K-26 FOR THE 2012 NESTING SEASON. THIS WILL INCLUDE, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO – NETWORK PAN/TILT/ ZOOM CAMERA PLUS OUTDOOR HOUSING, INFRARED ILLUMINATOR, WEATHERPROOF MICROPHONE, TRANSMITTER / RECEIVER, SOLAR PANELS, CHARGE CONTROLLER, BATTERIES AND ELECTRONICS ENCLOSURES, CABLES, COMPUTER, AND VARIOUS MISCELLANEOUS.

I PLAN ON BEING HERE AND ABLE TO WATCH IT THIS SPRING, TALONS CROSSED.

Not raining but still a bit breezy

hedgie said...

JudyE---OBX is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. That pic was taken very close to Candy---she lives on the sound side of Kill Devil Hills. Pic of course was taken on the ocean side!

hedgie said...

Oh, my....wht a generous person Bette is! That will surely be an expensive proposition....but I'm sure that Dr. Sharpe will gratefully accept her offer!!!!! Hope that she isn't bee too overly optimistic......what if they decide NOT to use #3???

Mema Jo said...

I'd say that Bette from Santa Barbars is an Eagleholic! It's fantastic for
her to be able to do that! Dr Sharpe
will be very pleased with Bette......♥

Mema Jo said...

lol Lynn - laughing about our comments about Bette being so similar...

Mema Jo said...

BTW - what did you have for breakfast
that was Yuck?????

hedgie said...

Jo, when I went to the store they were out of my Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage rolls...so I got Bob Evans..."original." It smelled and tasted like the awful stuff my ex's uncle made when he butchered. NO seasoning at all. (I always doctored our portion with pepper, red pepper and sage before we froze it) To top it off, I wanted scrambled eggs....but just can't make them right anymore. Either butter or milk (whole, not skim) has changed because they always are so watery....I ended up dumping it ALL down the disposal. Couldn't even abide my toast because of the sausage smell. Have candles and a potpouri pot burning still!

LOL, Margy---no biggie! Be areful on your trek.

If Anne has power back, then assuming that Judie does, too, if hers was out.

Kay said...

LYNN, oh, yuck ! Jimmy Dean is the only way to go on sausage. I love the "hot" sausage, but only allow myself to have it about twice a year. I've stopped adding milk to my scrambled eggs. I just beat two or three up and scramnble quickly using oleo or olive oil. Not watery.

Your 9/11 Pentagon history is so interesting---the stories that unfolded there and out in the PA countryside are often overpowered by those at the Towers. An amazing day in our history---one that turned a lot of ordinary men and women into heroes. God Bless the souls of those who lived through it and God rest the souls of those who did not.

Beautiful OBX sunrise ! An omen of good things to come.

Loved seeing your "notched ear" deer. coons and bucks, too !

JUDYE, enjoyed watching the cat meow-ander through the nest. Wasn't that the same nest the rattlesnake visited recently ?

Calling all gardeners, horticulturists, green thumbers. My lovely Dwarf Alberta Spruce is looking puny. Losing needles. July and half of this month were extremely hot--perhaps too hot for a Canadian tree ???? Any ideas on what to feed it or how to help it ? A couple of weeks ago I pushed it back to a spot that gets some morning sun, but shade only after noon.

Judie said...

Way too much to catch up but what I saw suggests all the momsters and dadsters are safe and relatively unscathed. Beautiful day today.

Did check out the cat at TH. Lucky cat. Did not end up a late night eagle snack.

Have some final prep to do for next week.
