Good Morning steve and thanks. I just wanted to wish everyone a very merry christmas and a happy new year.I will be back later,I need to get some breakfast.
Megan, I remember you once told us about seeing so many eeewwwwiieee's on your fence. Do you think it could be the same ones we saw near NCTC. I posted a photo of them a few weeks back.
Don't know Wanda, turkey vultires tend to roost in large flocks...We often have many of them in the morning on the fence posts drying out their wings and waiting for warm air currents.
mORNING, Wanda. No, I've caught the new thread first while opening it a few times before.
But I don't always sign on to it first..not the first time.
It is 46° and still falling apparently here in So Cal. We will have a fairly clear 59 later, but we are going to be doing rain both on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Oh, my goodness, Megan...I'm glad to know that they were drying their wings...I kinda thought they were waiting on you to slow down from your work so they could see if you were FAIR GAME for them! LOL
Morning all! Mits, do you have the news on? Hope you don't need to go out...stay away from River Rd. near Fenway!! HUGE water main break....cars and people trapped! Rescue operations underway!
That's interesting about the buzzards, as we call them out West here, Megan.
Growing up in the Torrey Pines Park area, which is world renowned for its thermals and updrafts...wind coming off the sea and encountering sandstone hills and steep cliffs, we would have 4-8 buzzards and Red-tailed Hawks soaring in large circles over our house almost always. But I do not believe I ever saw a congregation of buzzards anywhere on the ground. In fact we almost never saw them on or near the ground at all.
Lynn, I was wondering why my water pressure was sooooo low....hubby called and I turned on the news....it is a humongous water main break, pipe is 5 and a half feet wide....
Jim, my dad had an uncle who was 2 yrs. younger! Where does your family live? Dave, are you serious about collecting eggs? Do you have a farm? Forgot to tell you, I hollered loud when I passed the Terre Haute exits both going & coming on St. Louis trip!!! Did you hear me?? Daughter thought I was crazy!
Helen, they are calling it an aqueduct!! Repair predictions sound dire....wouldn't it be terrible if you don't have water for the next couple of days??? Better fill jugs/pans, etc. now aNd go get your shower!!!
They are taking the rescued folks to Holton Arms to warm up....the campus you didn't know existed, Mits! Saying "back up " is to Mormon Temple where closest shut-off valve is.
I actually saw an eagle in our nest a few minutes ago...first live visit for me in a long time.
Turkeys in PA
A brave crow or raven at the ME nest
One day this fall while birding we saw 7 turkey vultures on the ground near thousands of rare canada geese then went to lunch and an hour and a half later they were still there.
Merry Christmas to all of you if I don't get back here before then.
Holy Cow!! Just saw the river on River Rd, Bethesda!Said there was a 4 ft. wall originally, & it's 96" wide! Rescue people in boats & helicopters got people from their cars.

Granny, did you see the photo of about 25 vultures on my Wild and Wonderful? I have never seen so many congregating in one place. There was a deer laying on the side of the road (which I deleted) and they were dining on that poor creature.
HEY PAULA!!----I think maybe we should just hitch a ride to FL---I know PEOPLE there!!----ho!---Wouldn't that be LOVELY!!!--DIVINE---WONDERFUL!!----ENJOY WANDA & GENE!---
Yes, Paula, we are taking GG and far as she wants to go. If she feels well enough to go all the way, to Ft. Pierce, then that is where we will go....if she gets tired of traveling or feels bad, we can turn around and come back home. We have all the conveniences of home, if she gets sick...we have a nice. comfy bed for her and I always take a little case with ALL her meds....Dr. phone numbers. She is really looking forward to this trip because she has been feeling so well.
MERRY CHRISTMAS GRANNYBLT!---I enjoy hearing about all the EAGLES & other birds you see in your area! I can smell your home-made bread baking!---ho!---I never forget folks who bake bread!!---LOLLY has it on Fridays----ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS!!
Ha Ha good morning everyone. I just got done listening to Christmas at K Mart and it is on my list of places to go today hmmmm Maybe I will rethink that destination. Might have what I am after at my local Walgreens.
I have been so busy I am meeting myself coming and going right now so not lots of sit down and watch cams time at the computer.
I did want to pause though to Wish all of you a Merry Christmas Time gets busier now for most of us over the next week or even two. Be safe, be happy be healthy and remember in prayer those who have needs on this Blog. We know who they are and what their needs are. (((((hugs))))) Glo
Wanda, my mom used to live in Port St. Lucie, which is near Ft. Pierce! She moved to Missouri where my sister is almost 4 yrs. ago. Glo, ice crystals were beautiful!!! Paula, the few folks who needed medical attention were taken to Suburban.
Son John went down to the hospital this morning...Suburban..news crews everywhere...helicopter taking landing on and off the hospital...no water pressure there either...
Most turkey vultures die as a result of being hit by cars, flying into power lines or other structures, or getting caught in fences or leg-hold traps. Eggs and chicks are sometimes eaten by nest predators such as raccoons. Large owls prey on young and adult birds. Turkey vultures escape a lot of predation by being large birds. They also tend to spend a lot of time soaring in the air, where no predators can reach them. When harassed they will regurgitate their stomach contents of rotten meat, which is usually enough to deter predators because of its putrid smell.
Luney is plumb tuckered out!! His worldly travels finally got him!! It is so much fun to watch him. Somebody make em keep the cam up!!!! Don't they know who we are?
Good afternoon Hedgie; I have about 12 good laying hens. they are 2years old and at there prime. They slow down in egg laying but i get enough for my use.I do sell some in the summer. We are getting some freezing rain right now and i do wish it was all snow,i hate ice on the roads. Have a great day
Ok, now, let me see...We have to get some clean water to Helen, pick up Norma and Megan, stop in and see Candy then on to visit with Red (Maybe he will fix us breakfast). Stop in Florida to see Norma's relatives and then on to see Jewell and before we leave Florida, we'll swing by and visit with Bobbi. Sounds like a fun trip to me! :):)
I did some ice fishing in Michigan and it was fun for a while, but the COLD sensation that you have all around you, while standing on a lake is more than I can take. I like pier fishing in warm weather and catching flounder! Ummm!
Did you send your Christmas card via Xerox to the troops? (http://www.letssaythanks.com/Home.html)
I just did, thinking it might not make it in time, but the software grabbed mine so much faster than usual that I think they are sending them directly to the Mideast and printing them there. There's only a couple for Christmas specifically though.
Sent my card last week, Jim! Glad you got a good report, Mema Jo! Helen, the flood made the St. Louis news...Mom couldn't believe the pics! I was getting some straw for my Nativity display out of a bag that I have under the porch and found an old nest---wren, I think---which I knew was in there from spring...there was an unhatched egg in it, in perfect condition! Petrified or frozen?? Who knows! Will take a pic later and post it on yahoo mail! Well, dough has doubled....time to start the real work!
Just a heads-up that we'll be temporarily turning off the webcam tomorrow night (Tues, Dec 23rd) so that we can take Aki and Amaya to their new parents. Of course we will do some goodbye videos before we leave so that everyone has a proper send off.
just got a message from Ceil while I was out....they are about an hour away from Spokane, Washington, they are taking them off the train there and busing them to Portland , Oregon.....she has see 3 eagles so far:)
Deb - if you have over 200 pictures then we should be in for a great Christmas treat!
Sounds like some great Eagle Watching earlier at OUR Nest.....lucky you guys! I guess I was in bed by then, who knows, time is a blur. Can someone please stop the clock for a little while?
The Fire and Rescue people in Montgomery County did an awesome job, what heroes they are! God Bless the folks who have been so severely up-ended by this disaster.
Hope all is well in all our Eagle Corners
I did see ISS this morning, it was a little pale, but nice nonetheless. And the crescent moon is as beautiful as ever.

Good news about Ceil being almost at her destination, wish she could have taken the train all the way there! xo Give her our love, and Mary Margaret and Jim too, Mits...♥ ♥
Oh Pooh! I was going to print some pics to mail & heard geese. Checked & see I missed the PM Eagle Alert. Did anyone save some pics? I put some on blog from earlier today.
H-e-l-l-o!!!!!! Have been so busy today and no time to get on the blog or even check the cam, House is ready and now I am in the big middle of cooking,.
I am so enjoying all the Christmas cards, but I was unable to get them out since I was whisked away to NYC.
Looks like I missed more action! Rolls are done! WHew...what a job...I'm getting too old for this...now I know why my Grams was way ready for me to take over the job 36 yrs. ago!! Think this is the first time I've had to do it alone, tho'! Glad you've got water, Helen...is it still brown? Margy is right...does MCFD folks did a great job! Kudos to them all...and whoever the chopper crew was--??State Police??
yes Lynn, they are great people here in Montgomery County....never had any brown water, just barely any water....the break happen a block away from the Cabin John volunteer fire station, and they are the main station in this area that does water rescues.....State Police helicopter and Park Police helicopters were involved
Yes, Lynn it is a big job getting food ready for a crowd at Christmas. Michael and Ashley are looking for a new house. He said maybe we could all be together there nexr year. I told him I do not cook Christmas dinner at anyone's home but mine. I can not see Ashley preparing Christmas dinner.

Uh that would be vultures, not vultires, which is an entirely diffenent species...
I was never very fond of John and Yoko, as a couple, but I LOVE THAT SONG! Thanks for the memory, Megan.

BTW we call Turkey Vultures "Buzzards in Alabama too.
Lun Lun is dragging the fur off of Luney again today! Thumping along over every doorway and ledge.

Looks like Belle is eating and Lib is moving sticks into the wrong place! :) ☺
Aren't they loverly?????
Son John went down to the hospital this morning...Suburban..news crews everywhere...helicopter taking landing on and off the hospital...no water pressure there either...
Lib just flew off...Belle still eating.
Would love to sit and keep watching, but Grandma's Sweet Roll dough is calling...all day affair...will try to pop in when I can! TTFN, as Margy says!!
Wow, Wanda. There must be at least 50 buzzards in the herd there. They probably have troubles getting aloft in cold weather.
I wonder if they have predators. You'd think they would at least be perched on something at a safe height.
C(°ٿ°)D
Jim
Belle is devouring that brunch
Most turkey vultures die as a result of being hit by cars, flying into power lines or other structures, or getting caught in fences or leg-hold traps. Eggs and chicks are sometimes eaten by nest predators such as raccoons. Large owls prey on young and adult birds. Turkey vultures escape a lot of predation by being large birds. They also tend to spend a lot of time soaring in the air, where no predators can reach them. When harassed they will regurgitate their stomach contents of rotten meat, which is usually enough to deter predators because of its putrid smell.
Good morning to Norma and all the other bloggers I missed earlier.
Merry Christmas to everyone...think I'll see if Suzanne got to work today now.
C(°ٿ°)D
Jim
Thanks, Megan. I read something on Wikipedia about buzzards. they had quite a bit of info, but nothing on their defenses or role as prey animals.
C(°ٿ°)D
Jim
Luney made it over the ledge all by himself. OMG!! He is a big boy now.
Incoming!!!
you know she is going to move that stick after she finishes eating
Sharing leftovers...
Love that regurgitating fact, Megan
She just did, Mits.

Dave do you do any snow sports? (skiing, snowmobile, ice fishing?)
I did some ice fishing in Michigan and it was fun for a while, but the COLD sensation that you have all around you, while standing on a lake is more than I can take. I like pier fishing in warm weather and catching flounder! Ummm!
Mits - what is in the CC osprey nest...those dark thingys?

I wonder if they had 2 chicks and they died...they haven't moved.
The odd thing is they don't look like osprey chicks...look like pigeons or something
They don't have chicks yet at CC Osprey nest...first egg last year was Jan 30th....
