Just got home from visiting GeeGee. She is still doing great...drove to church this morning. I watched her going down the steps, and she did it with an ease that I haven't seen in a long time.

I was thrilled to hear that the Bluefield Girls saw Lib & Belle. We all love Lib and Belle with all our hearts, but I don't think we can come close to the Love Affair that those two sisters have for
them. YES, SISSY, WE KNOW THAT YOU WANT TO BE A PANDA WHEN YOU GROW UP, but I know how you must have felt when that Royal Couple showed up...they were ther JUST FOR YOU!
Thank you Thelma for keeping in touch with us. You will be blessed for keeping an eye on the HOME FRONT! I feel that Lib & Belle knew that EAGLE EYE SHARON was there and it was time to make an apperance. Have a safe trip home and enjoy the beauty of those beautiful WV Hills.

Mary Marg and I just got home. Have not read anything. Just wanted to say it was a fabulous weekend.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, my visit this morning . . .

We went to NCTC this morning. We parked at the road and walked up to the tree. It was me, Beverly and Mattie. We did get to see the remnants of poop shoots below the tree. We stayed there for a few minutes and Mattie needed to go potty. So, went walked back down the gravel road to the asphalt, walked maybe 100 feet and here they came!! Liberty and Belle both came in today, talking to each other on the way. Liberty went to the limb that goes across over the nest. Belle landed in the nest. She took off again and was gone for a while and then came back with a stick. She then flew to an upper limb and sat there a minute, then took off again. They went off to the left of the tree. We stepped on the other side of the barn, looked up in the sky and there they were, soaring. It was absolutely such a spiritual time. Sis took quite a few pics and will post them when she gets home. It was just so awesome.

Mema Jo said...

I am very thankful you were able to see them - like I said to you earlier that made your visit complete

There are so many small things that went on and may fail to be mentioned because the entire day was just so full of "Making Memories"

At the 3:00 Critter Show before Steve introduced the new director of NCTC to the filled auditorium - he graciously introduced all of us Eaglet Momsters in the audience and we stood PROUD!

I am so excited about my Fox photo and Eagle Frame with the "cookie kissers" within it. I have looked at them both a hundred times. I would like to tell you all about it, but you already know! LOL What a wonderful surprise that was. When Bob brought his photos in, I couldn't wait to see if he remembered the foxy one...was I ever disappointed when it wasn't there. Had the frame at home waiting to hold that precious picture and it JUST WASN'T THERE! I thought I'd have to wait another year to find a mate for my other photo. I just kept thinking, "Didn't Bob know how much I loved that photo?" I told him three different times.
You will never know how happy I was to see that photo appear! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

MITS said...

glad none of us spilled the beans on that one, Wanda, we were so looking forward to when you got your well deserved gifts for all you and Gene do to make our time so special:)

Sunday, October 19
Today the cub is 50 days old, which means he is half-way to getting his name! He weighs 2,092 grams (2.09 kgs. or 4.6 pounds). The cub continues to improve his muscle control and movements. He is actually moving forward by scooting around on his belly using all four limbs. The past three nights I have seen him travel the width of the nest box; it takes about an hour and several nap breaks, but he eventually makes it. There are grip strips on the floor of the nest box that help him along by keeping his feet from slipping (we put these down to help Mei Lan when she was first scooting). Once he masters scooting, the next step is crawling. To crawl, he must get his legs underneath his body and move around with his belly off the ground -- after that, there is no stopping him!

Yesterday we got some much needed rain here in Atlanta. Mei Lan did not mind it and sat outside enjoying her bamboo, seemingly without noticing the wet weather. However, Yang Yang hates the rain and acts as if he is melting in the slightest drizzle; needless to say, he did not want to spend any time outside yesterday and complained until he was brought inside. He was still a bit grumpy about it last night as well!

Lun Lun also dislikes rainy days, but she and the cub were nestled in their cozy den and did not have to contend with the rain. It will be a few months yet before the cub ventures out of doors. They spent the day eating and resting as usual. The cub's latest weight is 2,003 grams (a little over 2 kgs. or 4.42 pounds); he gained 65 grams in 24 hours!

Friday, October 17
Nursing bouts have definitely increased in duration over the last week or so. Previously, nursing bouts lasted seven to 10 minutes. Currently, nursing bouts are lasting 17 to 20 minutes. Because they are lasting longer, the cub utilizes all four of Lun’s nipples to obtain the milk he needs for his growing belly. During the nursing bouts, the cub also spends about 10 minutes rooting about to find one of the four different nipples. When he can’t seem to find one he will vocalize, and Lun Lun will assist him by changing positions or adjusting him, so that he has to ability to find the correct location.

The cub’s weight yesterday was 1,938 grams.

Nest Update

10/18/08:
On Tuesday, we had a sighting of a young immature bald eagle.

And then Saturday morning, we saw an older immature bald eagle. Note this bird is getting closer to achieving a white head and tail.
