From a local eagle watcher this am:
"I’ve been watching the Eaglets since they were eggs and blog on your blog all the time.
I have a question. Yesterday driving home about 1:30-1:45 PM, I-495 North was at a standstill going over the Potomac from VA into MD. (Nothing new.) In any case, I saw 3 Eaglets just circling around, very slowly, over the river, just sort of gliding. I got a good look at them, and do believe they were eaglets. They had their wings out, end wing feathers looked like fingers, and their tails were spread out like a fan. They were all black, large birds. Quite awesome to watch, actually. (The one time in my daily commute I DIDN’T want the traffic to start going again!) Anyway, could they be our Eaglets? Well, I mean the NCTC Eaglets. Would they be that far from Shepherdstown? They were circling around the bridge and the Potomac, but they don’t have to go that far for food, the Potomac is near their nest, isn’t it?
Thanks in advance for your response. Even if it wasn’t the NCTC eaglets, it was awesome to watch them. They’re SOMEBODY’S eaglets, and since there were 3 I just thought they were ours."
I told her it could well be the Shepherdstown eaglets. They will continue to move out away from the Shepherdstown nest territory.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 341 of 341Wasn't watching Room 222. It was on blog #222 and that made me think of it.
Mits, do reckon Lun-Lun is with child?
Several thousand blogs ago, I asked what was the technical name for a baby osprey - an osprelet? Nobody ever answered. Anybody know?
Ok sorry to excite you all but I'm back lol.
Naming stents; looking back in blog to make sure I read that right? Yep re-checked it and you all did. Can't believe it ! What's next? lol
I know after baby it is Juvienel and Sharon you can respell it for me.
Pinky, juvenile! Happy to oblige!
By Lisa At Blackwater:
One of our cam watchers recently asked about my reference to the "chicks" and whether this was the correct term for them now. In fact, the young are now "juveniles." I use the term "chicks" as a nickname, much as a human parent would refer to the "kids." But for those wanting to know the correct biological terms, I can offer the following definitions, which were in a paper titled "Names of Age Groups of Young Birds" by Harold Wood:
NESTLING -- A young bird within and not ready to leave the nest.
FLEDGLING -- Normally ready or physically able to leave the nest and survive, and still being cared for by its parents.
JUVENILE -- A young bird out of the nest and able to take care of itself, but which has not completed the post-juvenal molt.
IMMATURE -- A bird after completing the post-juvenal molt, but has not acquired the complete adult plumage.
YOUNG -- A generalized term applied to the bird less than one year old, when a more definite determination of age cannot be made.
Young ospreys only take about eighteen months to acquire their adult plumage, and they do not have multiple feather stages, so with ospreys they are referred to as juveniles and then immatures until they get their adult plumage.
Does anyone want to guess who that cam watcher was?
Pinky, was that you?
All those names are used for eaglets too, I think, but they are still eaglets. That is why I am wondering if there is a word for them too, like osprelets.
Nope not from what Lisa said Sharon. She wrote that about Osprey's.
I don't think the cam watcher was our Pinky I think that Tiger came over to BW to get information to take
over to his site to show his intelligence.
Mema Jo, I think you are probably right. Hope somebody like Tiger never shows up here!
Write Lisa and ask her. I had to email her to ask the question.
Even when we were learning about our eaglets. Wherever information was, I copied or cut and pasted into this blog.
So I am a copycat lol.
Yet we all learnt from it.
I am a kitten not a Tiger....hee hee
If you google Ospreylets... you don't get anything except 2 misquotes concerning eagles and blue herons
Jo did you go to the store?
You mean you didn't miss me?
COME ON NILLA
GET ON THIS BLOG
Ok Sharon Maybe a round of "Where is Nilla, Where is NIlla"? She is watching America's Got Talent trust me on this!!!
We're back. I am tired now... but not feeling too badly at all.
Sorry I sunk so low to name Nilla's stents - thought it was kinda funny and cute, guess the percoset is making my judgement a little off...
Where's the wet noodle (and I don't mean those styrofoam pool ones) to whip me for my error LOL
Mema Jo, you've got mail.
Belle, I thought the stent-naming thing was cute!! It's all gravy baby!
If she's watchin TV - she can't blog :( They run it through the TV she said. I thought it would be somehting on a pushcart they'd bring into the room, but they have it rigged so it is right on the tv screen - now if I could do that at home...hoooooo would that be sweet???
Whom ever went to the store bet they didn't buy toilet paper.
I like the stents names myself.
Well Nilla might have said she was coming on but she sure sounded tired. Yet who knows for sure. If she does get here then we'll know for sure.
BELLE I loved the stent names...
I'm trying to decide what to eat... any suggestions out there? What did you buy at the store Jo?
I'm not feeling too bad, but don't want to eat anything that'll make me feel sick...
Maybe she's zooming around the world on google earth? If she's not watching TV I can GaROOONTeee she's got Tai and Mei on that big screen... how nice that would be to wake up to after napping...
PINKY Ever since your email, I don't go to new grocery stores LOL
CEREAL
& Peanutbutter crackers
I'm starving too...humm big cheeseburger yummy
I think I'll wait on the cheeseburger for me... just a little rich... LOL but you enjoy one for me.
I'm hoping another fringe benefit of my new and improved sinuses will be that since I will be able to smell again that food will taste even better, but dreading that thought at the same time - I want to LOOSE weight and that'll be hard if food tastes extra yummy...
what a double edged sword that'd be
Just dreaming of the cheeseburger .
Belle I didn't buy cereal & peanutbutter crakers at the store - That is what I think you should eat!
Okay I am gonna eat a big bowl of ice cream.
peanutbutter crackers sounds good, not sure on cereal... not feeling like crunching and chewing a whole lot though just yet.... My son made me some mac & cheese - sounds good - maybe we even have some applesauce - I think those two things go together
What's everyone else's go-together foods (like veggie soup and peanutbutter crackers for me, grilled cheese and 'mater soup... stuff like that)
Belle,
How about a grilled cheese sandwich, ramen, eggs or soup? Glad you are feeling good enough to eat!
I'm gonna have a chocolate eclair ice cream bar!
Yes! I can blog, surf and eat ice cream!
What, did everyone go to eat now?
Belle- chicken noodle soup and saltine crackers
OK, found my memory, going to watch Freid now
Grilled cheese and new england clam chowder
Floralgirl what kind of ice cream are you eating?
Paula you multi-tasker you! Impressive! Chocolate eclair icecream who makes that? tell me more - sounds delicious - like a mini boston creme pie - which is my favorite...mac & cheese went down very well and seems to be settling nicely...
NEWS FROM NILLA
Just had a phone conversation with our gal, Nilla. She sends her love and said to be sure to tell everyone, "I miss them". She can't get the webTV working, so she won't be able to blog.
She admits that she has had a very long day and is very tired. She really is expecting to go home tomorrow. She can't have her cell phone in her room due to the heart monitor. She had a very good laugh when I told her you all were naming her stents - Big Stent, Inbetween Stent & Spunky Stent.
She said the blood pressure is lower & staying steady. She sounded good! So tomorrow when she gets home - then we'll hear from her.
Found your memory Paula? Where'd you loose it, and how'd you remember you didn't have it if you lost it? Giggles - sorry I think the percocet is makin me punchy LOL
Thanks Jo glad the blood pressure got lower and is staying steady. Great news !!
Thanks for the great report Jo - so happy to hear she's sounding good. I hope she can sleep well. Hospitals aren't the easiest places to sleep. They gave me a medicine for my nausea and said it would make me very sleepy and to sleep for half an hour to let it take effect and allow the icky side effect it caused pass - no WAY to sleep in there... but I did rest and it wasn't too bad. And thankful it worked so well. I was really miserable after my foot surgery a few years ago with feeling sick
Nilla needs to call in some hunky maintenance man who can fix the internet for her, either that or not pay for it. I won't be satisfied that her blood pressure meds are working until they take a reading after some gorgeous man smiles at her and she gives him a pat on the arm ;)
Sorry Paula-started watching TV-Edys Sundae Cone (tastes like one of those drumstick cones)Yummy! Jo- thanks for letting us know about Nilla
Belle didn't you know that is why we have this blog. So we can go back and see when and what we lost. If we ever had it to begin with. The blog tells it all.
Well, my brat has had my computer tied up for a while I am going to bed now.
Sweet eagle dreams, my friends of fine feathers. Blog with you tomorrow!
Belle,
That did sound funny, like I had lost my marbles and found them again! Shopping for computer memory for the notebook for my son to take to school.
Good to hear the news from Nilla Thanks JO Wishing you a comfortable and good night Belle
Maggie sweet baby girl Its time for our littlest Eaglet Momster to wake up and eat up...grammy is gonna be telling us about your next weigh check in and we want to watch them ounces climb so down the hatch girl
Good night all..gonna do a litle work on a Data base for a while.
Sweet dreams Sharon.... see you in the morning.
I'm sleeping here in my computer chaise tonight - when I lay my head back I get that red stuff ( don't want to spoil appetites) draining down - icky don't want that for sure...it is pretty comfy for sleeping though, I've spent many an hour dozing in it when I was supposed to be doing my coursework... lol
Anyway- just went into that to let you all know I will be setting the record for the longest lurking session tonight LOL What award will that get me? Toothpicks for my eyelids?
Going to be away from computer for awhile. On second thought, I am going
to sign off for the night. I have some things to get done before going to bed.
Goodnight all my eagle buddies.
Sweet eagle dreams............LOLove
Shopping for books now
Niters all Eaglelanders....since most are leaving. I'm going to stretch out these aching legs. Catch some country music videos.
Nilla, Maggie (eat up), Belle AOYP=Angels On Your Pillows
Nite Friends
Night Glo, don't work too late - remember you're semi-retired (is that like being a little bit preggers?) {{{{hugs}}}}} and sweet dreams
Oh no Paula - make sure you are sitting and have a defibrilator (spell for me Sharon, please?) Those books are SO outrageous. The darn professors are in cahoots with the publishing companies and keep changing editions every sememster so you can't get used a lot of the time
Night to pinky, too... sweet dreams. See you tomorrow.
{{{{{hugs}}}}
HI EAGLE BUDDIES----I just read all 256 blogs----I just got on, cleaning lady here today---(messed up computer)---Oh you all have had a busy day---sorry I wasn't here---SO VERY HAPPY BELLE--you are home & feeling better---(you can sell your meds on street---BIG BUCKS)--KIDDIN'---Oh GREAT NEWS about NILLA---I bet after ride home--she w/be a little beat----I thought of her all night---Has anyone ever tried to quit smoking "cold turkey"---They say "WAR IS HELL"--but quitting smoking is worse---So glad she went to Winchester---I talk tomorrow---want to hear more about everything you all talked about today---seeing eaglets---WOW---I agree that taking time to talk to the animals & to stop & smell the roses brings you as close to God as can be here on earth----That may sound jumbled---but you get what I mean----I read the other day that people who spend time talking to the animals---live longer----so we will all live to be 150----
Night to Jo,too... don't work too hard! Sweet dreams once again.
Belle,
Am really surprised. All the books are available used, and the total for the first semester is only $353...thought it would be higher.
HI NORMA
Hi Norma! Wow I like that age estimate... I've heard people who talk to animals a lot get locked up in looney bins, too.... do those go together? Put us in loony bin and then we get such good care and are protected from the outside world so we live long and perspire? LOL
Wow Paula - that is a great deal... What's he taking this semester? If you said what he was majoring in, I'm sorry I don't recall.
Did everyone go nighty night? I'm bloggin alone
Lurk mode set.... sweet dreams to all and thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers - I know they helped me in many ways
Y'all are the best!
No, Belle, still here, looking at Amazon now.... undeclared major, but interested in science, not sure what he wants to be yet... taking core classes this fall..
I talk to my doggies all the time!
Some said good night, others are probably lurking....
And I guess I talk to myself all the time, too. Wonder if that counts?
May as well....
Go for it ?!?!?!
Legs need waxing! Send it here!
Wow, I went away for a little while, and tons of post since I left, and now I'm hungry. Good Night All!! Talk to you all tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping in, ya'll come back now, ya hear!
Ok, going to sign off for tonight.
Sweet dreams, eagle friends.
Good Morning Suzanne! See any Eaglets yesterday?
Good even-morning...
Short of time, can't read all comments.
Did anyone calculate how far from nest area to DC?
Congrats, Suzanne, on the sighting...
Have a great week...
Jim
And the place got very very quiet, seems ALL bloggers are off in eaglet dream land! Sweet dreams buddies!
Good morning Suzanne, guess you're still on your way in to work? Can't wait to hear if you saw our 'lets on your way home.
Hi Jim, glad you stopped by... as the eagle flies DC to the nest site.... following the river, guessing it isn't more than 45 miles tops... I'll check mileage on the C&O canal path, think that might give a better estimate.
Sunny so nice to hear from you - thanks for the well wishes, they're most appreciated. Hope the busy schedule is filled with more fun things than stress.
Where is Suzanne? Where is Suzanne? I am here, I am here
Hope the deer are hiding,
Hope the deer are hiding,
from her car, from her car
Just getting dark in Brisbane, not much action anywhere else to watch
Tai is sleeping on his ledge...looks so peaceful in there
MOrning again Suzanne
sounds like the tiger cubs are going to get to know you pretty well - very handy to have them as a stop right on the way home!
My surgery went very well, hopeful there will be much improvement in quality of life ahead :)
I dozed for awhile, but was feeling awake, and since I'm sleeping in my computer chaise, figured I'd log in to greet you properly... I'll snooze again in awhile after take my percocet. I'm trying to stretch out the time between doses and I think I've about maxed out the wait at 6 hrs
Hmmm need to eat something with my pill, what can I get without making noise and waking up the house... should've thought of that when everyone went to bed and had a snacky wacky prepared...
Suz - any luck on getting the pictures downloaded? If not - time to sweet talk your IT guy at work or get your computer set up at home...
not many animals to watch on this side of the world...
What do you usually watch?
pill down with a piece of stale (hopefully no mold growing on it) bread...yum lol
ok I will quit blogging or you'll feel like you're never going to catch up
I'm glad you're enjoying the new camera. You might be able to get a usb card reader that would allow you to transfer pics without installing any software, but not sure how that would work or not on your work computer. Walmart I think can txfr the pics to cd from the card, but that costs of course. Hopefully library will do the trick for you 'til you get set up at home.
what do you need to do to get your computer set up at home? I ask because we do a lot of computer fix-up/repair for co-workers,friends and family and have lots of pieces parts laying around...
Your schedule is a tough one for sure. Is there a way for you to work from home a day here and there? Or could you work 10 or 12 hr days and only commute in 3 or 4 days a week? With gas prices that would be nice, as well as giving you more 'life' hours.
What type of work is it that you do? There are a lot of gov't facilities in our area - IRS, ATF, Coast Guard, VA...
I know what you mean about getting 'sucked in' to the computer. I still do, but I'm better than I used to be when I was a stay home mom - I would have computer online all day and chat with friends between all the mom stuff
ohhh the maine cam is so pretty lights just starting to creep in - glinting off of the spidey web
looks like someone is perched on the branch to the upper right of the nest - I've seen parent perch there before but can't tell coloring yet
CT osprey cam is pretty too - sun coming up front and center... messy messy nest LOL
I know all about the security stuff - hubby works for IRS and they have it set up so he can log in securly using their laptop and VPN tunneling to connect and he's able to work from home a fair amount of hte time - he also works 4 10 hr days. Makes it much nicer. Traffic - if you work 10s you could go in after the heavy stuff in the morning and home later in the evening... hard to go in early enough in the morning to beat the 3pm begin of the rush out, though... I sure hope you can work something out... I'll see if John knows of any security type openings at the center, if you're interested
Color kicked in on maine cam I wish the water was more defined in the pic, but it makes a good background. I remember someone saying they could see boats going by - I don't think I can see clearly enough to tell that
Juvie in the nest - picking up sticks - reminds me of our kids 'playing house'
Or maybe it is a parent - just hopped back up on branch - still too much backlight to tell coloring for me
Yeah I noticed the web at the BW site too - not sure if it is the type of lens that makes it look so different or not
eagle out of sight now at ME nest
two in osprey nest the smurf one
I don't know enough about the ospreys to know if that's parent and young or two parents or two young LOL
Yep the IRS in Martinsburg, where hubby works. Lots of folks commute in from Chambersburg area down 81
Oh that was so funny - watching the CT osprey and the one looked at the camera and started talking - same exact time a blue jay outside the house here started calling Too funny!
maybe one young and one adult - the one I think might be an adult just moved mostly off screen so can't be sure if it has white now or not...
MT nests all around wonder if Tai is up
good timing looks like he is just getting up and stretching wish they had a still cam of htem so you cuold watch , and I can't watch the live one there for long - computer starts getting really slow and I have to restart it to get the video memory back
guess it is only fair to make us share the pretty view
Bet Floral Gal is out watering - that has got to be a ton of work... if the weather pattern stays like this she's going to have to get some sort of crop irrigation pipes run - what a pain that'd be to do
Good morning Suzanne and Belle. You 2 sure have been busy this morning. How are you feeling, Belle? Having much pain?
I have the yucks this morning. Raw chest, cough, just feeling like doody. Oh well, life goes on.
Starting to work now. Going to try to stay on task a little better today. Don't want to stretch the day out any longer than I have to.
Aww Sharon sorry you're feeling icky - it is Andrew's fault for pouring the icy cold water on you... make him fetch and carry for you all day!
My percocet is kicking in now - took it around 3:30 - stretched it to 6 hrs and it is taking a while for it to work this time... next dose will have me cozy I reckon
Andrew won't be here to take care of me all day. He has summer band everyday from 10-3. Will have to come up with some OJ though.
Belle, if you wait too long on the pain meds, the pain gets a hold on you and it takes longer to help. Be careful with that.
Yep that's what I'm discovering Sharon, but the next pill should catch it up
lol deja vu
That's so pretty Suzanne - the sunlight glinting off the water's ripples
must be a wee bit breezy up there
Just went to the Maine nest. That is the most serene picture. I love it!
Good Morning you chatterboxes!!!
So good to hear you so bright & cheerful this morning, Belle & Suzanne. I thought I would check in before I go to an early morning appointment. Sharon Take care of yourself! I'll check on you as soon as I return.... LOLove
GLO Got my email this morning concerning order from CafePress. It is already in MD - May even receive it today.
Hey ladies- How's the percoset, Belle? Can't take that stuff myself, makes me loopy and nauseous.Did I spell that right, proofreader? My ears were burning when I was outside just now, thought it was the gnats that were biting it,thenI saw you guys were talking about me.I do have drip hoses running through many of my flower beds, but not all, garden just isn't in a big flat open field-some places haveto be watered by hand. When it becomes this dry,any water you put down is being absorbed so fast because every part of the earth is sooo dry.I am getting majorly frustrated-no rain relief in sight.
I forgot to report that my sister bought me a figurine this past weekend of an Eagle sitting on a Harley with a doo-rag on his head. It is so cute. She also bought a cigarette snuffer of an eagle's head with a doo-rag. Won't be stuffing a cigarette in it though. Seems sac-relig!!
A cigarette snuffer is a little figurine with a hole down the middle of it that you sit in an ashtray and stick the end of your cigarette in to snuff out the fire.
Sorry Nilla for mentioning cigarettes!
Good Morning Friends! Loved the BELLE AND SUZANNE EARLY MORNING SHOW Have a great day! BELLE, Sharon is right on the money, if you wait too long to take the pill, it will take longer to get rid of the pain. You want to be in a nice dreamy place right now so that you can heal. I'm with FLORALGIRL that stuff makes me really sick, so be glad the only side-effect you have is a nice drozziness.
Yes, Suzanne, Nilla is supposed to come home today with her new body parts intact.
Baby sparrow on my roof with no tail feathers. Baby cardinals have been everywhere. They are growing so fast.
SHARON How's that little youngin "goin to get down" and shake his tail feathers!!!!
8:57amEST Just got finished catching up on the "Good Early Morning Eagleland Talk Show" with Suzanne and host this am was Belle.
Very entertaining !!
Up again howdy all
That was a quicky Belle.
lol mits shaking its non existent tail feathers poor thing
How's lil Maggie doing? How're YOU doing? You still buying goodies for her? Has the lulaby stuff arrived? Sounds like you need to order the heavy metal version for feeding time :)
Morning Pinky. Did Nilla say what time discharge would be? SHe best not have a cigarette on the ride home
NEW THREAD IS UP, COME ON OVER THE WATER IS FINE
LOL a quicky... yepper couldn't afford anything more LOL
The Suzanne and Belle show - hmmmm wonder if there's any money in that? Would be a different sort of commute for ya Suz... wha'dya think?
Maybe my little sparrow will shake hard enough to shake out new ones!
Morning Mits,Pinky, Sharon-in for a sec.-back outside to cut a few more flowers before it gets too hot. Suzanne- I've stopped listening to the "weather experts".Check weather underground daily to see the radar-but it has become too stressful to watch the weather evry day hoping for rain, and I can't handle the people in 3 pc suits complaining cause it was a cloudy day or they got rain and there are asking hey, when's that sun gonna be back again. Can't take the fakiness of it all-they won't say drought or focus on the fact that some places haven't gotten rain in weeks until they absolutely have to-gotta keep things cheery OK sorry for the rant-too much Bob Ryan viewing last week-and Jim Handly's comment about it being cloudy for a whole day and he couldn't take much more may have driven me over the edge...BBIAFMAICSF- Ha figure that out-
YOOOOO, COME ON OVER TO NEW THREAD, OR IS SOMEONE TRYING TO BE 400, IN THAT CASE GO FOR IT AND RECEIVE YOU NICE CAN OF WAX.
Lol Sharon - now that's some shakin! I got a visual of it - a'la Disney animation - ROFL (well in my heart I'm rollin, but not on the 'to do' list for a couple of weeks...) LOL LOL
ok I need
a prize
