good evening folks! wow. i checked in this morning, around 8:30 and there were 15 comments. come home to 406 comments!!!!

and, a new baby! :) yeah!!~!!!

after reading the comments, sounds as if all is going well.

we spent about 4 hours working on the invisible fencing. the most difficult part was winding it thru the fence.....and tom had to go to get more wire.

i worked in the flower bed some....finished putting out the white rocks, put out my bird bath, my gazing ball, etc. more yard work to do, but it was nice to get out there for a bit.

bowling is done for the season. :) we bowled against the "vacant" team tonight...the team that was kicked out for poor sportsman ship. not sure WHY they kept them on the roster...as they haven't been there since november????? but they were...so we just bowled and had fun.

a lot of fun!

and now, get ready for work tomorrow.

SED to all. holding all close in heart and thought....have any of you ever thought how much light & love those baby eagles are bathed in....? with us all watching and loving and sending.....its pretty awesome folks!

Well, it was fun reading the posts about the feeding. I knew Shep would come through...you have to remember, this is only his 2nd year as a Dad :)

Gonna go check out the videos now.

paula eagleholic said...

Well, the videos were great! I can see how fuzzy things looked. They looked much clearer today on the still cam.

I think the nest looks such a mess cause the picture isn't sharp.

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, and I think the second food item looked like a mouse!

paula eagleholic said...

Oh and I have to say that Hedgie is a very peeping chicklet!

Dozed off for a while but the stuuuuupid Sandperson woke me up making noises in preparing to take off. Restful sleep for all and may the snowflakes fall far far away from the nest.

Night all! SED!!!

Jewels said...

Good morning from the work place....I think the eaglet names would have been perfect.... mom would have definetly said Shamrock for the second baby.... Glad there was more feeding wafter I signed out.
Margy how sweet of you !!! I pray that the snow holds off or does not come, as my drive could be slippery!!

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

Some snow on the ground here. Trying to see what is going on at the nest. Does not look bad. Belle not tenting. She just woke up.

stronghunter said...

Brief check on the babies.

Sandi said...

Good Monday morning Jewels and all my eagle friends! No snow here in Bethany and the nest doesn't look snow covered either - good. The wind sounds wicked in WV though.

Sandi said...

Good morning Shirley!

Sandi said...

Have caught up - sounds like our names are official, Hedgie and Shamrock! I like!

Prayers for all the needs on the blog, especially for Lori's dad, Dana's dad, Margy's friend Lorraine, Sharon and Andy for relief from their pain, and for Hoda's American brother & sister (sorry Hoda that I said nephew in my email - I misread).

Could you please add Doug Hudson to your prayer lists? His son Jake was a student of mine last year. I found out on FB last night that Doug has 3 brain tumors - he is at Johns Hopkins and his surgery to remove them is today.

Make it a great day all! Let's hope the fishing in Shepherdstown is better today. Even the best fishermen have a bad day, right Steve? =)

DanaMo said...

Good morning! No snow in Hagerstown. I think the play kids would have loved a 2 hour delay today. Oh well.

Thanks Lolly and Shirley for telling me about puffin. I would never have found that on my own.

Two things I need to remember:

I need to take his prescription to the pharmacy.

Please remind me if you think of it--in an hour and a half or so.

Thanks.

Good morning my early risers....and a good morning to those who will rise later!

It was such a lovely weekend! Got stuff done around here, eaglets hatching.....I have warm fuzzies!

Warm this morning, we are expecting rain. Then a couple of cooler days. Glad I got the yard work that I wanted done, done yesterday.

I am off tomorrow, but we have a dr. appt in the early p.m. for tom's shoulder. Surgery coming up for him as soon as school is out. Been putting it off.

However, as for today: YOGA DAY!
I have so missed it while I was ill! Can't wait for tonight!

Hugs to all today! And special blessigns light and love to our dynamic duo: HEDGIE AND SHAMROCK!

Good morning all you eagle watchers out there. Just got on and saw the feeding, and will now leave it on for the children, Never made it back on Saturday night, as my husband jumped right on his farming when we got home. Did see Glo's videos of FB and was so excited to see that we had another hatching.

Raining here, hope you all have a wonderful day. Happy watching.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Good morning eagle buds!! Saw the babies getting there breakfast this morning and she made sure Shamrock got some too. Hope the weather doesn't get to harsh up there. We are supposed to be rainy today but north of us is supposed to have a "wintry mix". Stay safe out there y'all. I will be lurking around and watching while I work.

Oh yeah, I wanted to let y'all know, Isaac is doing much better. They had to put him back on the continuous feeds while he was sick but are now weaning him back down. He is not interested in eating hardly at all but I think it is because of the continuous feeds and bolus feeds. I don't think he is ever hungry and I don't think he is gonna wanna try to eat until he is. That is just my opinion but that is what I believe. Other than that, he is doing really good and the speech therapists are coming regularly. Pray he gets the hang of eating so he can get rid of that Mic-key button and be totally tube free.

I love us! Have a good one! Hope everyone is well and has a great day!

glo said...

Good morning all Breakfast at the nest I read. Yeah!!!! Off to a much better day as far as stress over food. Our eaglets will be kept warm and dry during weather. It's gonna be a great day. Off to coffee and dog treats, with a light heart.

Just read back. Thanks for the update on Isaac and prayers for Doug.

paula eagleholic said...

Cool, just got to see the quick feeding...they are the peepingist pair I think I've ever seen! Very vocal. Shamrock did good trying to hold his little head up for a bite.

paula eagleholic said...

Sissy, I agree with you on Isaac. I don't know how he could be hungry and interested in food when is belly is full.

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING...

I finally got to see the chicklets being fed. Not a BIG appetite just yet but, it will come!

Starting to snow a little harder now...about a half inch on cars. 29°

Dang, I missed the feeding!

Snowing here now. Supposed to get up to 5" today and a wintry mix. YUCK!

grannyblt said...

Good morning all. I read back to see that our kids have had breakfast. Windy at the nest and looks like snow on Belle.
Thanks again Linda for telling us about Puffin. I was able to check on the hatching yesterday while I was away from the computer.
Snowing here--past ready for warmer weather..

stronghunter said...

Good morning again,

I see those snowflakes on Belle's feathers.

I did fall back asleep for a bit, or at least I think I did. Then George decided I should sleep no more and started his walking-on-me procedure.

Still snowing lightly here. We have an inch or so--maybe two. School is closed, so I do not have to worry about the gym suit, just taking the prescription.

grannyblt said...

Lordy Shep, the youngins need food, not sticks...

Good Morning and (((hugs))) Linda! How are you feeling.?

Lolly said...

Oh, yeah, I do like that Puffin as it is so fast. Wow! Have not figured it all out yet, but working on it. Trial and error!

Glad to read that there was a feeding this morning. I wanted to see the pantry stocked when I got on. No such luck!

Lolly said...

Also, very happy to see no accumulation of snow.

I have a dentist appointment at 12. Time to get my crown. Have done very well with the temp.

Lolly said...

Look at Shep, he was tucked. lol Pulled his head out after I started typing. He's a sleeph head like me. :)

paula eagleholic said...

Shamrock is looking right at the cam! Turn around and get some food, Buddy.

Lolly said...

Oh, I love it! Brunch time!

paula eagleholic said...

Or Hedgie...

Lolly said...

LOL He is still so wobbly.

Lolly said...

I think Shamrock needs a neck brace.

Lolly said...

He was leaning his head backwards and fell completely over.

paula eagleholic said...

Is that Shep or Belle on the nest?

Chicklets down for a nap :)

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like Belle to me.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for the reminder, Judie. Gym suit can wait since school is closed today.

Some people would be quite amused that an inch or two of snow can close the schools, but that is the way it is here. There are lots of country roads for the buses to cover, and a bit of snow does freak people out.

I do recall having a student once who was upset because she had an accident driving to school on an icy day. She was ready to sue the school. Don't think that would have worked, but people do tend to blame the schools for all kinds of things.

stronghunter said...

I do not see snow in the nest, thank goodness.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

It is Belle in the nest. She relieved Shep a few minutes ago.

Lori O. said...

DANG, missed another feeding. Belle looks beautiful in the nest!

Lolly said...

I am off to the dentist. Oh, the joy!!!

Sandi said...

Hi all from school!

Had the cam page up on the Smartboard this AM around 10:30 when Belle fed the chicks. Someone at NCTC ZOOMED the cam in for a close up of the chicklets! SO COOL!!!! The kids were wowed - so was I!

Easy to tell them apart right now b/c Shamrock is still so wobbly. Hedgie gets right up there for the food!

Hope to see more food in the nest when I get home this afternoon! Later!

stronghunter said...

Okay, on the names of the babies, some people on the OC are calling the babies Kat 1 and Kat 2 to honor Kathleen, one of their members who died. A suggestion has been made that the eaglets be called Hedgie and Kat. I am just putting this out here for your consideration. Some of them have agreed to using the name Hedgie.

stronghunter said...

Exciting, Sandi!

stronghunter said...

My thoughts on the names issue--we do have a lot of new people posting on the OC because it is what they find when they look at the cam.

I know that some people who have been on the OC for some time do not know anything about the Momsters. They think they should be naming the babies, or at least should have a part in the process.

I would like to prevent confusion on the part of the new people, and since I suggested the name Shamrock, I am trying to do what I can to make peace with the other group.

Ideas, anyone? I think we should think about this, and then maybe one of our leaders can post a decision on the OC.

I really like the names we have been using, but peace and harmony are important, too.

stronghunter said...

This is what is posted:

Donna Flowers · Top Commenter · Huntington, West Virginia
It took one little scroll to see that they are being called by different names AGAIN. One group is calling them Hedgie( to honor a friend in that group that had passed away) and Shamrock. Another group are calling them Kat 1 and Kat 2 ( to honor a friend in their group that passed away). I don't know any of these people, and I think all the names are fine. But to have the same names would be nice. How about Hedgie for the one group's friend and Kat for the other group's friend?

There are many different groups that follow this nest. Hancock has there own names for the wee ones too. It does not bother me. When I post on here about the babies I am just going to call them baby 1 and baby 2. It will make it easier on here.

I didn't know Kathleen had passed away. She was a sweet lady. I think it would be appropriate to name them Hedgie and Kat.

Shirley, I think Hedgie and Kat are great. Kat1 and Kat2 are ridiculous.

WV sUSAn said...

That has to be someone just making funny business.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for your thoughts, Susan.

WV sUSAn said...

Has Shep still not delivered an actual fish? Belle keeps getting that dark thing at the top of the nest and feeding bits.

stronghunter said...

Oh my goodness, both getting fed. Precious!

stronghunter said...

Shep needs to figure things out and get a fish.

WV sUSAn said...

Shirley, is there some kind of stock pile at the top of the nest where we can't see?

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

So, are we going to change Shamrock's name to Kat? I will abide by whatever the group wishes in that regard. Off to physical therapy, woohoo! It is helping though, so I will keep going. Catch y'all later this afternoon!!

WV sUSAn said...

Sharon, soooo glad to hear!!!! Go gettem, girl :-D

glo said...

Well we certainly all do know how it feels to love and lose someone and then want to do something they loved in honor of them I can deal with Hedgie and Kat also if that's the decision. Given the Momsters have known and loved this nest since 2006 i think it also is fitting that eaglet 1 IF we can even tell them apart soon, would be Hedgie and eaglet 2 would be Kats. Everyone would feel like they have a special eaglet in honor of someone they love.

Mema Jo said...

Good Afternoon - I've been reading the Outdoor comments - I have no problem going with "Hedgie" and "Kat"
Let's wait to hear from the morning crew's opinions.

Last comment was from Bev about going to therapy

Food storage seems to be up at top of nest Perhaps Rob will zoom out once so we can see.

stronghunter said...

Not sure where she was getting the food, Susan.

I see that both are in the nest now.

stronghunter said...

Shep seems to have settled happily on the nest. I think he wants to be a "house husband" and send Belle out to bring in the bacon--or whatever.

stronghunter said...

Sounds like a good idea, Jo. Thanks for the response.

Mema Jo said...

Switch TIME

Both Belle and Shep in the nest

stronghunter said...

Would be nice to see the 12:00 part of the nest.

stronghunter said...

I am not sure we are going to be able to tell these little ones apart. They looked like twins this morning.

stronghunter said...

Shep off. Chicks alone.

stronghunter said...

Nah. I think Belle is still there.

stronghunter said...

Maybe she has convinced Sheppie boy to get some fish.

stronghunter said...

Feeding.

stronghunter said...

Something dark being fed.

stronghunter said...

I see something pinkish and something green in the nest. Anyone know what it might be?

Belle settling back onto the babies. Shep was sent away. Shep is supposed to do some fishing.

Get with it Shep.

WV sUSAn said...

A pine cone and some moss, I believe, Shirley

stronghunter said...

That makes sense, Susan.

Mema Jo said...

I have no clue what is up there at the 12:00 position. I guess it is the pantry.

Don't know what she was feeding - and I don't know what we are seeing laying in the nest.

stronghunter said...

I must get going. Still need to deliver prescription to the store. Kathryn will pick it up later.

stronghunter said...

Kathryn will probably be very happy to see Hunter go back to school tomorrow. She is very busy at work, and she told Hunter that she was busy. She gave him some tasks to do to earn gaming time.

She called me at lunchtime and told me that he had called or texted her 25 times. I think he spent more time trying to contact her than he did on the tasks.

She had silenced her phone. She is still trying to be a good new employee.

DanaMo said...

okay did you see the lady on the OC who said they named the eaglets after her and her husband? That is why I don't read those comments. I just get peeved.

Oh...how rude, I didn't say good afternoon.

Lolly said...

Back from the dentist and no new crown, It did not fit another being made.?????? Why, why do I have trouble with crowns fitting? However, he did no more drilling, did not work on the crown and break it. He apparently is a perfectionist and wants a whole new crown. So, I wait another 2 weeks.

stronghunter said...

I hope she was joking, Dana.

paula eagleholic said...

Personally, I think that any group can call the eaglets anything they want. If our people want to post on the OC, then out of respect for both groups, I think they should call them E1 and E2, and vice versa. The OC group that used to be on their forum now has their own FB page (it's not the one you see scrolling under the live feed...those are just viewer posted comments)..and they can call them whatever they want to over there. I'm sure Hancock is calling them something else. Unless there is a formal voting process, I say let each group name the eaglets as they desire. That's my opinion.

Lolly said...

Actually, over the years, the eaglets earned their names. The names we eventually gave them fit their personalities. We are also very content with one group calling Shep "Smitty". I can go along with whatever this group wants to call them. Hedgie is Hedgie and not going to move from that one! :)

Lolly said...

I am off to work in the yard. Sun shiney and 68, just beautiful and so many flowers in bloom and the oak trees are finally putting out their tassles. Yea!

WV sUSAn said...

Nice that the babies were born on Patti's and husband's birthdays. I kinda think she meant that's what THEY would call them, like "amongst themselves."

DanaMo said...

okay I admit, I'm just cranky today!

I know what I will call eaglet number 2 in my heart and I will respect whatever the decision is for eaglet 2 on this Blog. I have made one or 2 posts on the forum a couple of weeks ago and none last year. I don't do any other fb pages for this eagle nest. So for me it really doesn't matter. This was Lib's home and now its Shep's home. This is where I will be for this Eagle Nest because well its home.

paula eagleholic said...

Margy, I agree with you about OC and memorializing names...that's why we can all call the eaglets what we wish...sometimes it's very personal.

With so many other groups out there, it's hard to have just one name for the eaglets as opposed to the parents.

paula eagleholic said...

Looks like some snow or sleet on Belle.

magpie said...

Righto, Paula...I am following our posts here as compassionatly as I can, both about us, and other groups...I appreciated your insight and outlook also....

UPDATE FROM NICOLE:

Praise the Lord- Isaac has made it two days without any huge vomiting spells! He even ate about a tablespoon full of food and drank a little bit at breakfast this morning. Introducing suckers has helped a lot with the oral aversions :-). He is so chatty and loves singing back to me when I sing to him. Such a sweet baby! Thanks so much for all the thoughts and prayers-it has been a rough few weeks but he is on the mend!!

I see snow on our precious Belle (I think it is Belle). It is a cold, 37 degrees, rain here. Mattie's first high school softball game got postponed and I am so glad. This would be miserable to try to play or watch in. Still don't see any food in the pantry. That is what I am praying for now. BBIALW! Time for Tom to get home and I like to have supper waiting on him when he walks in the door. (He likes it too!!!) LOL!

Granny, crazy how that works sometimes!

Belle seems perfectly content keeping the young warm and dry. I don't see any signs that she is concerned at all about food conditions at the nest. I am choosing to relax and enjoy. I sure hope the little ones like whatever it is shes been giving them LOL.

Agree Glo, Belle really does look perfectly content!

Nice to see the good news about Isaac.

You make good points, Paula. Good that so many are interested in the eagles.

Good wet afternoon my eagle friends - 1 work day down! Yay! A very calm, normal day actually!

Poor wet, icy Belle!!! Sure wish I had opened the cam page to see fish everywhere in the nest!

As for names, I only post to the comments under the cam to answer a question like how do I tell the male from the female or do we have 2 babies yet? When I do post there, I refer to the adults as "the male" and "the female," the eggs as egg 1 and egg 2 and the babies as chick 1 and chick 2. I don't post any names b/c to me, the names are personal to our group.

Even when I share info. about the nest with my students, I refer to the adults as the male eagle and the female eagle and the chicks as chick 1 and 2; I don't call them by names.

Having said that, I agree with Paula. We chose Hedgie and Shamrock as the names for this year's babies, so that's what I'd like to call them. It doesn't matter to me if the folks on the OC Facebook page or the Hancock site call them by some other names or by no names at all. If we post to the comments under the cam, I suggest that we not impose our names on others and just stick to calling them the chicks or the eaglets. JMO.

Bev, a former student of mine has a daughter who went through chemo and a bone marrow transplant for a rare blood disease. She was in Johns Hopkins for almost a year from age 6 months to about
1 1/2. Because of issues with her digestive system from the chemo and the transplant drugs, she didn't eat solid food for most of that time. Ally is almost 4 now and still works with a speech therapist on learning to eat. It may take Isaac a while to learn how to chew and swallow and even like regular food. Hard to be patient but ...

Need to check out FB to see if there's an update about Jake's dad's surgery today - thanks for the prayers and positive energy everyone.

BBIALW!

Glo, talk to me about giving Dex aspirin for his arthritis. I give Bandit Dasuquin with MSM and it really seems to help, but it's expensive.

Sounds like the C-5

Latest FB update from Jake about his dad (posted around 12:30pm):

Surgery was a success. Many thanks for all the prayers from everyone. The doctors said he may be able to come home as soon as Wednesday. Please keep praying.

Hi everyone. I am at work and first chance I have had to peek in. Went to look at cam and saw beautiful icy protective Belle keeping the chicks warm and dry.

I did read back on your comments and I am too new to have a vote or opinion on names. In fact, my daughter admonishes me not to name wildlife as they are not pets (I know we all know that). I don't really care what they are called and I am sure they don't. All I care about is that they thrive.

I do comment on the OC and I like doing it. I think I will follow the advice of some of you and post E1 and E2 or something similar when I comment on them. I have already taken to calling male eagle Shep/Ben/Smitty when I post there so as not to offend any group. Maybe it is easier to just day Dad.

Gotta get back to work. Have not been able to stop thinking about this nest all day. It is snowing and sleeting hard here where I am in south central PA. Should be a tricky drive home later.

Take care everyone

Sandi I sent info on fb about aspirin as I give it to Dex.

I appreciate the reasons for not using the eagle's names on the OC site. I had been using the names of the adults, but have noticed lots of people who have chosen not to. Can't recall if I mentioned the eaglet names.

Overall, the good thing is that lots of people are interested in the birds and their welfare.
And I am happy with the names we chose--Hedgie and Shamrock.

True, the eaglets have usually earned their names, but we have given names for sentimental reasons before, too.

I think some of us feel just a little protective of our own group and our history, and that is not such a bad thing either.

I think that is why it bugs me a bit when someone says that the majority of people call the male eagle Ben, or some such thing, and seem to wonder who we think we are. But, logically, that is not the important thing.

Just thinking in print here . . .

OK well hoping those watching the sleet and snow will continue to post cam updates fairly regularly. I stopped watching Belle in the snow back a few years ago "more ptsd" gosh I am a mess, and well I don't like hearing her getting sleeted all over either. I am sure she will sit as long as she can and keep Hedgie and Shamrock warm and dry BUT sleet is so much heavier than snow. argh. Go away precip!!!

stronghunter said...

Yes, that mess on Belle looks really yucky, Glo.

I think calling the eaglets and eagles our names just on our blog is a nice and respectful way to handle it.

Just got done shoveling about 1/3 of the concrete pad parking in back of the house....it's a lot, and heavy, wet snow this time, too! The really good news is that Dad says he may get the four wheeler with the snow blade out tomorrow (after another inch falls tonight) and teach me how to plow it that way tomorrow!

SANDI, so glad Jake's Dad came through the surgery well! Prayers he gets to go home Wednesday.

I'm praying I don't miss another feeding! I want to see those babies!

Shirley, you DO know that Alaska has more bald eagles than any other state in the US, right? If eagles can thrive in Alaska, then WV is a piece of cake for them!! Look at how the ice doesn't even melt on her feathers - that's b/c they are such incredible insulators that they keep her body heat in very effectively! Relax! Breathe! =)

Great update on Doug, Sandi...

From my naturalist NY Pal this morning:

"This morning on the way to work a Bald eagle swooped down
and picked up a dead rabbit in front of me. It had a difficult time getting airborne with it but made it into the trees with several crows after it. I imagine they had claimed the rabbit first and weren't happy about losing it."

glo said...

ha ha I am not at all worried about Belle's ability to handle the sleet and snow. I see it all the time here all winter long. Belle is not at all the issue in the precip.

Unknown said...

I keep reminding myself that the snow etc, insulates the eagles. And yes, true--they sure do THRIVE in Alaska.

Back to work now. Our roads are very icy so I may leave here early while it is still light out and I can take it slow

Sorry if I have offended anyone, it was not intentional

stronghunter said...

Can't imagine who you could have offended, Lydia!

I do know about eagles in Alaska, but that ice on Belle makes me feel yucky. I would not want to spend a winter in Alaska.

Thanks for the update on Doug, Sandi.
