Monday

New week thread.

Wanted to do a quick plug for a program that NCTC hosts each year at NCTC called SC3.  This is a weeklong event that brings talented high school kids from across the nation to Shepherdstown.  This year there is a great speaker list, including the great writer, Barry Lopez, and a host of scientists, filmmakers, photographers and sustainable building experts.  Students take the skills they learn back to their schools and communities.

If you know a high school student who might be interested, or a teacher that may have interested students, please take a look at the SC3 website: http://www.greenschoolsalliance.org/students/student-climate-conservation-congress-sc3

Thank you Steve for the new sunny Monday threat. Sounds like a good program. I'll check around my neighborhood.

Will also call the others.

Andy, when you return try www.intelius.com if you haven't already.

Ooops, sorry Steve. Threat should be thread.

Thanks for the new threat/thread, Steve! Sounds like a great program for high schoolers - will give some thought to who I might pass the info. onto at the local high school. Thanks Judie and Jo for the call over! Haven't been able to watch the cam at all today but am happy to read that all is calm. Also glad to read that Lynn's toes are blue - my fav color, and her vision will be improving shortly!

New jeans on order and I wish they'd hurry and come---old ones won't even stay up so wearing a pair of navy sweats that Shannon (!) got me at Wally World---size 10!!
Yikes! Think I'm presentable. Going to go a head and log off. See you MUCH BETTER later I hope!!
Fingers crossed!

My glasses are ordered! Yea! Eye is doing just great, do not go back for 3 months. Doc was pleased with how my eye looks. Should have my glasses by Monday but possibly as early as Friday.

Only one eye dilated so I can go work in the yard soon.

Annie was just having a dream, I think! She was asleep on the sofa in the living room. All of a sudden she was crying, I went in there and she was still curled up on the sofa, eyes closed. I petted her and she started purring. Hmm????

Sharon, so glad you are feeling better!

Thanks for the Thelma update. Wait until her cards start pouring in! Is there anything else we can do to lift her spirits?

Mema Jo said...

Oh Our T-Bird - It's up to you and her counselors Sharon. I hope you might notice a change for the better in Thelma

DanaMo said...

Thanks for the information Steve. I am an elementary teacher, but will pass the information on to the science department head at St. Maria Goretti.

Thanks for the new thread.

I'm home, AMEN!

Wrote a letter to the coach. Couldn't help myself, had to stick up for my daughter! I feel so much better!

I am proud of you DMO I sure hope your words make a difference!

Dana - I sent you an email and need your response....... ♥

Mema Jo said...

DanaMo said...

Okay putting the word out there again. The only "slogan" I have so far for the buttons is "Welcome to our Nest".
I feel like someone had something really catchy, but I don't remember what it was, help!! Send me the suggestions in an email though because they get lost or missed here on the blog. Send it to myactv.net email, please

DanaMo said...

Sent an answer JO.

DanaMo said...

I don't think Monte was thrilled that I spoke my mind. I thought I said my peace as carefully as I could and still get my point across. I can't wait to see if I get a response.

Sandi said...

Home from day 1 of a 4-day week. Only 3 more to go!

DMo, glad you wrote the letter - hopefully it will hit home with the coach. But even if it doesn't, you'll know that you spoke up for your daughter and for her teammates!

Sharon, so happy you're back!!! Sorry that Thelma is not happy. What we want and what we need are sometimes 2 very different things!

Lori, some encouraging news about Kate's mom! Hope it continues.

Lolly, good news on the eye doctor visit!

I've passed Steve's info on to the principal at my former school.

Mema Jo said...

Come on Momsters/Dadsters,
get your brains clicking with a catchy saying that will go around our Button along with a nest photo! Send your suggestions to Dana

Hoda said...

DANAMO I am very pleased that you spoke your mind to the coach. You are a professional teacher and you know what works with students and how to encourage them and bring along successful results. More importantly you are a mother and you were there and you obviously saw the effect he had on the students and how demoralized the team was. It will make him a better coach if he knows how to read it with the intent in which it was written. Good on you DANA

paula eagleholic said...

Is the still cam still down? Mine still shows the old picture...

Lori O. said...

Judie will surely come up with some catchy phrase.
I loved her Shirley's Girlies as a suggestion for
Shirley's bowling team! lol

Sandi said...

When I got home this afternoon, I had a very hard time getting the cam page to load. Then it ran for about 50 minutes and then I got the arrow circling around the middle. Now the page won't load again! Just a white screen. Grrr!!!

DanaMo said...

You know what's really sad, Hoda? The coach is a teacher too!

DanaMo said...

Just want you all to know...I passed off quite a bit of my poopy cash yesterday! ☺ Much to my children's dismay. They thought I was horrible. It was washed!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Instead of "Bless This Mess", maybe "Bless This Nest".

DanaMo said...

That's a good one.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Hi,

Dinner is in the oven. Kathryn is having the pleasure of checking Hunter's math homework.

Had some fun today. Went to the bank and they wanted to know why I was negotiating my refinance with the competition, so I said I would be happy to talk to them as well.

stronghunter said...

Well, Lori, I am not the captain of the bowling team. The captain's name is Janet. But thanks for the suggestion!

Hmm, eaglet pecking taking place.

Sandi said...

Sharon, Which one is Wayne Newton? =)

Shirley, is Hunter off next week for spring break?

Got the cam back! Grocery shopping tonight so I need to fix dinner for dogs and people and then scoot!

Later!

ANDY, hate to hear about the invasion at your "desert house". Hopefully insurance will take care of all, but it's still an affront to the psyche.

LYNN, we love you from the top of your pretty curly head to the end of your purty blue toes ! How about a chorus or two of ♫ Am I Blue ? ♪ ?

MARGY, loved your use of "ootching" recently. I'm now hurting from my grey and straight haired head to the tips of my gnarly ol' unpainted toes ! So, I'm ootching myself toward my pizza dinner, evening meds, PBS News Hour, Jeopardy and DWTS.

I see today the cam has a new look. I like it but it takes a little while to load. Maybe that will improve. Last day of my vacation since this is my regular day off. Probably won't post much but will stay active as my work allows. Take care. I will watch for info on the nest visit. I have to work until about 9:30PM that Saturday and work Friday night until 6:00PM. I agree with everyone that the eaglets have grown just in the short time I 've followed that cam.

Evening, all!

Now that the chicks are a little bit older, they can eat more at one sitting.

I hear the rattling in the attic, too.

#1 moves over for some chow.

paula eagleholic said...

It does look like the cam view is of a smaller area of the nest.

paula eagleholic said...

Ha, they are so full, they can hardly move! #2 could barely get up, then flopped back down.

Lynne2 said...

Uh, Children, DADDY'S HOME. You might at least lift your heads in acknowledgement....

Are we seeing Belle's brood patch? The way she is standing there is an indentation in her centre front feathers.
Shep is in nest eating

Hoda said...

OK I am off to yoga and will be back later. Enjoy!!!

paula eagleholic said...

#2 just missed Dad with that Poop shoot!

Judie said...

Kay, do NOT feel self-conscious about using a cane. While recovering from my multiple ankle fractures, I found the wheel chair > walker > cane very helpful. Most everyone was so obliging and I, of course, was not reluctant to accept. There were even one or two drivers in D.C. who sort of slowed down as I moved through a pedestrian walk way.

paula eagleholic said...

Very good observation Hoda! Yes i think so.

Oh my Belle is getting snippy with Shep...he hopped over to her...and I think she snipped at him.

Lynne2 said...

It would be Hoda. You can't see the actual patch from this angle but the lack of feathers there would make it look indented

paula eagleholic said...

I think she told him to go back to his own fish!

Lynne2 said...

there goes Sheppy Cottontail

Think that's a super program at NCTC. I may send the link to our naturalists. Our Park programs for students have been chosen as Green.
Went to work at Chelsea for a couple hours~~very busy & our top gal finally got married and they are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks!!
Lucky, lucky.
Go to Park Thursday also. Other girl who works in office has to go to NC. Her brother called and seems their Father who uses a walker fell over on the Mother and she has 3 compression fractures of vertebrae~ Yikes, how awful.

Gotta go get my spaghetti "of the Stars"! Instead of Seasonall on meat & the sauce, I sprinkled Emeril Legasse's Essence & it's on Paul Newman's Sockarooni!!

WV sUSAn said...

Don't know the particulars of the coach, but you can really get such a mix. We had a VB coach who wouldn't show for the first game or so. Crazy. And then try to coach when he got there... a regular event that was NO good for the team.

Ha! How much are you going to charge for stinkbugs, Lynne?

Hi all! Have been out in the yard and now ready to just sit for a while.

Yes, Kay, use that cane!! No one, no one at all, will think anything about that cane. Use it at home and use it going out! Please and thank you!!!☺

Lolly said...

What is on her beak? Now that is going to bother me!!

JudyEddy said...

Bells wing glos

DanaMo said...

I think the girls are going to make 3 of the stink but catchers...One with light, one without...or maybe it's different types of light. I forget.

I know coaches all take different approaches, but I really don't think that tearing down the girls self esteem really accomplishes much. My daughter took the failure on as her own. I can't have her do that, I would rather she not play if this is the way it's going to be.

stronghunter said...

My comment box is at the bottom of the blog.

Belle has been still for so long that I refreshed to see if everything was okay with the cam.

stronghunter said...

Have been trying to tidy up the place for an appraiser to come Wednesday evening, but the other bank says they will just drive by. Would be a lot less trouble and expense.

WV sUSAn said...

DMo, I completely agree. That's not a form of motivation. Does this person have children?

WV sUSAn said...

Shirley, you know you have to be at the ready. As soon as you are not, they will want to take an indoor tour.

Lynne2 said...

NO CHARGE Lolly, and FREE POSTAGE!!! Place your orders now! LOL!

Dana, we tried the light trap, the one made with a soda bottle. It failed miserably, although no doubt they are attracted to light. I was going to try and "apple" trap now. The SBs that are in the house came in in the fall to hibernate. I've read that when it warms up, if they cannot find their way back outside and to a food source, they will die. I believe this to be true as this time of year we do find many dead ones. SO I was interested in seeing if they'd be drawn to apples left out, as they eat apples outside.

hedgie said...

Home and settled. New glasses are so much better!!! We went to Pizza Hut for dinner and I am stuffed! Watched Jeopardy and now trying to stay awake for DWTS!
I'm sure I've missed a lot here, but know that I DO care!

Good plan, Lynne2. Most of the stick bugs I've found are very slow, dormant. Even with the warm weather. But... I've only found three or four in the past couple weeks.

Lynne2 said...

Hello LynnE Bluetoes! Of course we know you care! Good to see you! Glad you got your new specs!

Lynne2 said...

Oh Susan, you lucky duck. 3 or 4?? We killed just about 2000 (yes that is a 2 and three zeros) late summer/early fall last year. Much worse than the year before. We have to do a "sweep" before we get into bed. The fly at the TV at night. GROOOOOSSSSSSSS!!!!! There have been some not so funny at the time SB stories on here....the worst being Sharon "having one for breakfast". UGH!!!

stronghunter said...

Back in the 1950s, my best friend painted her fingernails purple. Now, this was back when purple nails were very unusual.

We thought it was really cool, but our history teacher said that her nails looked like she had been beating her fingers with a hammer.

Things have changed since then.

Lynne2 said...

and yes, the ones now are far more lethargic than when they come in fall. I'm very interested to see if the apple thing works.

Lynne2 said...

wow, did they really HAVE purple polish back then? or did she use something else?

Lynn, so glad you new spectacles are working so well. All the better to see us with. Being stuffed is good, also.

DanaMo, sorry about the incident with AnneMarie's coach but one lesson you have provided to her is to stand up for what we believe is the right thing to do. I feel certain that the coach will provide a coach's perspective (read winning)but your message to AnneMarie is critical.

Nest looks quiet and peaceful. The sandperson is about to depart to visit the momsters and dadsters. School house for me in the morning. Restful sleep for all.

Had to come back to say CarolAnne has provided a tour down memory lane and just a whole nest full of chuckles. Thanks so much!

Night all.

Might be kind of late to check this:

Find Venus, in the West and sinking fast....
look above it,
Pleaides is sitting right about above it. Very pretty.
Use field glasses if you have them.

Good Evening Eagle Pals xo

I'm about a day behind on Everyone's doins'

Happy about your new specs and what sounds like a nice outing with Christie....aaah, nuthin' quite look some good pizza !

I thought of a slogan for the buttons:
one small problem, I forget what I thought of...have it written down
somewhere and also can check one outgoing email to look for it

magpie said...

Oh it is:

(with a picture of both parents and both babies, such as maybe what Sandi posted on her blog a few days ago:)
We Are Family

magpie said...

So I'll send that to DanaMo by email

magpie said...

Guess it has a double meaning sort of

We are Family, as in the Royal Family

and WE are Family, as in the Momsters and Dadsters.

Happy to read of Sharon's feeling better today, and Tori's next big steps on recovery, thanks for those posts, pals

I saw Tiger Swallowtail butterflies today,
and some wild turkeys
in Morgan County

Beautiful thought, Margy.

Miserable incident at the desert house for Andrea and Ken....
so sorry to read of this disrespect for others' properties....
in the work I do, we take so many calls of vandalism and destruction, in addition to so many "People" calls

magpie said...

Thanks Shirley

Good Luck on choosing a new name for the team
How about Strikes and Spares
but so many good and humorous suggestions have been offered

Thought of you when I saw those Tiger Swallowtails !

Hope Lynn gets some ID ideas from our Butterfly specialists on the one she saw earlier

Good to hear that Tori has been decannulated!

Hey, DMo---I had a beer with my pizza this evening! Sure tasted good!

Well, I'm calling it a day here.

Prayers for all needs. Sleep tight, and sorry I haven't caught up. Back is feeling enough better that I don't want to press my luck.
Love to all.

Tough that WV Jerry's work schedule seems disadvantageous for the Nest Visit Week-end activities
:(

My two days of make-believe Retirment are over, they have been packed to the hilt....
so time for beddy-bye for me...

Prayers for all our many needs, especially those for Wellness and Comfort

God Bless This Nest, and
God Bless Us, Every One

Yawning here. Time to call it quits for the evening.

Hoping the damage is not too bad, Andy.

So happy to hear Tori's good news.

I will see you tomorrow.

Odd thing, here. I keep getting wrong number phone calls from an attorney who is trying to reach his client. I called back the first time and left a message, but it has not stopped the calls.

Later, I got put on hold and gave up.

Tonight, I got some strange response that did not make sense.

magpie said...

Good Night, Shirley

Hope the tooth problem gets resolved quickly...
and best wishes with the house appraisal...

Mean to add:
Jo
thanks for the thorough work on the Nest Visit email....
xoxo You're Doing Swell !

'Night, now for real

Good evening all. Have not been on for quite a while and hope I haven't missed any important issues.

Since my priest friend sent me an email that he hasn't heard from me for a long while and was concerned I thought you all just might miss me too. Sure hope so.

Hoping Lynn has been improving physically.

Was surprised to see how much the chicklets have grown. Wow.

I'll check in when I can but this 'puter is spitting and sputtering and fighting me daily.

Prayers for all. Love you guys.

Gee Whiz! Musical Comment boxes!!

My celebrity spaghetti sauce was not as good w/Emeril's spices. I picked it up by accident instead of the Seasonall. OK w/a little salt and parmesan! Lunch tomorrow.
LOVED Carol Anne's Momster list. (Some of us DO know the secret of Sheetz!!)

Was just checking Isla on her Scotland nest. It's snowing on her!!!!! BOOO

Should have got on here sooner. Missed Margy. I saw a Zebtra Swallowtail today at Chelsea!!! Have to find out about Lynn's butterfly.

Very good yoga class.
Clear night here toight.
I am glad you got a response from the coach and I am glad youare also attending the meeting. At least this way you could put a stop to further guilt on AnneMarie.
I hope it goes well DANAMO.

LYNN I am glad your day went well and that you enjoyed your supper with Christie.

Cold here tonight...I havenot checked to see how low the temperatures are going to get.

A woman from yoga class had an encounter with a cougar who was protecting his deer kill.It was in one of my favourite parks...Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. She is OK was just excited as she was telling the story. No harm done.Fish and Wild life officers have been notified.

Jo, Jack has read the book and is now reading the 2nd or 3rd in that series. He told me I would not like it. Laurel is reading the book, she likes it, but says I would not. They know me.

I did like The Hunger Games and now we will go see the movie.
