Linda--some pictures of the Northern Lights.

onewith said...

I saw that you want to name the intruder, do you ever go over to the NCTC cam, we have thought about it long and hard and have tossed names back and forth for over a month, Will you consider any name or do you have to belong to the momster/dadster. Also, How are the Kitty's are thry sick or will they be Ok

magpie said...

daggone it, no Northern Lights visible here, maybe too many town lights, but I did see Jupiter
(East and Yellow-White) Pleaides, Triangulum and some other beauties...skies have cleared nicely!

onewith said...

How can I see pictures of what you post, I would really love to see the things that you see, but I am so computer stupid,,,

magpie said...

wish Lori had checked in...maybe I missed it...wonder if her new laptop is running okay....
will look for that early morning post !

Hoda said...

onewith, I think you are talking of the OC site, you keep saying you post to the NCTC site, yet I think you mean the OC site. Am I correct?

Linda said...

Thanks, Shirley. Very beautiful. I asked Dennis and he told me more about them, too. Duh!! I guess I should have known that from school!

Onewith - Lori usually posts early in the morning. She is the caretaker of the kitties who have been ill. I am sure she will see your post and respond. Her day starts when most of us are sleeping!

Hoda said...

onewith, if you click on the link STRONGHUNTER posted at 9:51 you will see the Northern Lights...

Lolly said...

Onewith, Naturenut, DanaMO, and Costume Lady have posted pictures of today. Click on their avatars and that will take you to their homepage. Then click on their blogs. Wanda's (Costume Lady) are on her Smiles blog. Loretta's (NatureNut) has pictures on nook blog. DanaMo just has one blog, I think. Does that help? Hope so!

Lynne2 said...

OK, THOSE northern lights are really pretty, and only seen way up north....ours, when they are visible here, are not quite so spectacular, although very cool as we rarely ever see them. If you are on FB, check out Megan's page...Mad took a great picture of what we saw!

Hoda said...

LOLLY check your email...

magpie said...

Williamson, WV...see that Linda, thanks for the answer...that's a loooong way from here

wonder how Hedgie is doing and if she will post ?

stronghunter said...

Sometimes it is just a colorful glow in the sky, not as dramatic as those pictures, though, especially as far south as Virginia.

stronghunter said...

Best view I ever had of the Northern Lights was the summer I spent on Lake George in New York State.

Hoda said...

Our skies are clear and with beautiful stars, but no northern lights tonight...ENJOY what you have...

Linda said...

Oh Margy.....Did you ask the question about where in WV?? I'm sorry!! Get a bit confused through all the posts sometimes!

stronghunter said...

I have some pictures we took of Northern Lights on my blog way back when I first started posting. They were taken here in Virginia. I'll see if I can find them.

Lolly said...

Got it, Hoda! Thanks!

Linda said...

LOLLY - YOU have mail......

stronghunter said...

Northern Lights in Virginia

This is a view from my back yard. Pretty good, I think. Will's photography.

Linda said...

Do the northern lights only show in certain areas?

magpie said...

Hedgie and I both asked, Linda...that's okay, you're doing fine!

stronghunter said...

Well, you have to scan down to the bottom of the page to see the Northern Lights.

hedgie said...

Ta-da!!! FINALLY. Have been trying to post for a long time but blogger cop wouldn't let me do anything! Here is what I was trying to say!

Good evening, pals! Very tired here.....don't know if I'll get caught up or not.
Kay, I've been using that formula for gnats for a long time. Seems like they become immune to it in a few days! Good luck.

Kay, love that poem! Thanks for bringing it to us again!

Checking out pics now. Sounds like you all had a great nest visit and camaraderie! So glad it all worked out well!!

magpie said...

Wow Shirley, Great! Beautiful!
And a whole bunch of other cool pics too

Helloooo Hedgie !

stronghunter said...

Hi, Lynn! So good to hear from you. Glad you were able to get past the blogger cop.

Lynne2 said...

Shirley, those are great pictures!

Linda, they are a phenom of the arctic circle and the northern most parts of the continents south of there. Every now and then there are solar flares so strong that they can be seen further south. But never as beautiful as they are in the far north!

Hoda, do you ever see them up your way?

Hoda said...

LYNN it is good to see you on here. How is LIESL and has she seen the beach yet? How is your knee? Oh I missed you on the blog earlier today. It was so quiet with so many gone...

Lynne2 said...

Hello LynnEllen!

onewith said...

Linda and Hoda, Thanks i will check in the morning to see about the Kitties. and I think you all are right the O/C, I check out the forum everyday looking for the cam. How will we know if Lib will show up if it is down? And what are they doing . I hate that we will have to wait until Jan.

Lolly said...

Thanks, Linda!

Hi, Lynn! Have missed you today, glad you finally got in.

Hoda said...

LYNNE 2 The BEST Norhtern Lights I ever saw were in Northern Québec...oh they downright danced...I could stand and whistle and they would dance and come towards where I was standing. They were pretty impressive in Northen Alberta too. I see them in southern BC but they are not as impressive...I still like to see them though

Lynne2 said...

we all share the same concerns about the cam, Onewith....sure sucks that it's down. We will miss a LOT if it's not back online til January....

Heading for bed, good night and prayers for all!

Lolly said...

Night Lynne! Great to have you on this evening. You are missed when you are not here!

Lynne2 said...

I'd LOVE to see that in person Hoda! The best ones I saw several years ago lasted for a few hours and I was mesmerized. Red, then red with streaks of yellow, then blue and green off to the side, and the colors were all the way up to the zenith! they didn't dance, but the did change up in intensity and patterns quite a bit!

Hoda said...

onewith, there is a lot of work to be done by NCTC and they have their main jobs to do...the camera is an extra bonus. They are hampered by schedules and budget allotments and they do their very best and we are ever so very grateful for the work they do...

stronghunter said...

I am sure Hoda gets the best views. The ones I saw in New York danced. We saw them almost every night that summer. Had a good view from out on the lake.

NatureNut said...

Just went outside. Couldn't see anything. Dark sky, light clouds, a few stars & some trees and road lights toward North. BOO Can see stuff like that at Park fields.

Just found what channel Ravens are on, but it's 1/2 time & B'Ball is tied at 2 each.

Good night, Lynne & all hitting the hay!

paula eagleholic said...

Had some phone time with family...back now.

Welcome onewith! Please chime in any time!

Judie, glad Frank's surgery went well. Yucky ride home. Good dinner and asleep, all is well.

gonna go check the sky, not sure if I'm too late or not....nothing here but stars, we had some rain earlier while I was mowing.

Hoda, will check my mail.

hedgie said...

I am so glad that all went well with Darth, Judie, but wow, what a long day for you both. :( I don't rmember it taking so long for Bill when he had his done.

No northern lights here. :(

I read GWTW the summer I was 12....I read almost non-stop for 3 days!!! Absolutely loved it!!! The first time it was shown on TV (no VCR then) I played hooky form work!!!

JudyE---great that you found earrings! I know that's what you wanted!!!
Jo, was Faith working in the gift shop?

magpie said...

Good Night Loretta, and sure was great to see you AND Frank today....
xoxo ♥

hedgie said...

Last night was not good.....Liesl had a restless night, as did I! We are having elimination issues....she has only piddled twice today, and no p--ps........getting ready to take her out one last time before putting her down for the night, and then I'm heading to the tub and bed.

We had no luck today with the house hunt. Have a couple to see tomorrow, and the one that Irene and I like agsin.

We did drive down to Hatteras......much evidence of the the destructive power of nature....but a lot of recovery evident, too.

Can't do anymore.....sorry gang. Too pooped to even pucker. Love you all! Praises for the good health news, prayers for those in need, and Hmmmmmmm for Lynne re: Steve's results. Maybe he needs to ask for a different Dr. There's always more than one in clinic!! I don't know how they assign them, but do know that you can switch! Right, Jewels???? (if you are lurking).
G'night, pals!

The sandperson is not being very subtle tonight. In fact, down right obnoxious. So...

The night light is on for any who may need to arise in the darkness, may need to arise in the darkness with only one working eye, for those headed back the hallway, to the tub, or arriving late from the West coast. Restful sleep for all.

Good Late Evening !

DANAMO,love seeing the Tuggers ! Happy news that your Dad is already coming home ! Hope your Mom can keep him from overdoing !

LORETTA, more great pics ! Priceless video "Trick or Treat"--a real treat to see for those of us who couldn't be there.

WANDA, it's fun to see the different perspectives each of you camera bugs have ! Hope the splat on the windshield wasn't anyone we know !

JUDIE, relieved to hear how the day went for you and Darth. Hope you can avoid rush hour on the trip tomorrow.

LYNN, find it interesting to hear the gnats seem to become immune to the vinegar treatment in a few days. Makes you wonder how they communicate, huh ? Wonder if Liesl is off sked due to change of water ? Dogs often go into the mode she's in when taken to a kennel or left with someone else. Guess they're more sensitive to change than we realize !

LINDA, thanks so much for your lists of prayers and praise.

I'm taking that list and heading to bed now---"see" you all tomorrow.

Lori O. said...

Whoa, I'm still sleepy! I barely slept Sunday night because I was so excited about going to the nest and seeing everyone, and I couldn't settle down enough last night to go to bed early even though I was soooo tired!

I have many pictures to post, but need to figure out where Kate is in getting things off my old computer and onto the new.

It was so awesome to meet JudyE knowing that she had come all the way from Florida! I recognized DanaMo before I even got out of the car, JudyE, too. Can't wait to see the pictures of the Early Birds together - DanaMo, JudyE, Margy and me.

Wanda looked absolutely beautiful with her new hair! She and Jo both had their regal eagle canes and JudyE got the last one in the gift shop. My favorite gift shop find was an unusual wood eagle refrig magnet! Very cool.

Lori O. said...

ONEWITH, thank you for asking about the kittens. They all appear to be fine at the moment and I pray they stay this way. Still they are quarantined until the first of January to be sure. They get sweeter every day.

of course wish you had gotten more sleep..
better add an extra scoop to the coffee brew this morning!
Maybe the airways will be busy with reports of the fabulous Northern Lights seen in some local areas...

I'm sooo excited. I managed to get my pictures loaded onto the computer before I left for work this morning so I will put them on the blog when I get home today!!!

DanaMo said...

Good morning early birds! Wow I went to bed early last night! All the excitement wore me out. Had so much fun yesterday and saw the eagles! Made my day.

Now today my dad gets to come home. Oh Kay I hope my mom can handle him! He has been told over and over that his success will depend on him following the rules. Let's hope he is a "good boy". We are also a little worried about the dog, they have an Old English Sheepdog who is just a puppy and loves papa very much. Hopefully they can control his excitement too!
I told mom to call me if she needs help, of course she insists that she is a "big girl". I am waking her up at 6 to get herself ready for the day and go over to the hospital.

DanaMo said...

Lori-did you see the video ☺ ☺ The flying labs thank you very much!!

real quick Lori:
as we were leaving, we caught up with Judy in the pkg lot,(DanaWV, Wanda and I) to set up trip to Swinging Bride...everyone else had already left..
so DanaWV wisely suggested we TAKE JudyE to the bend in the road,
Voila! Soon as we pulled up, first one then the second eagle perched in the tree

magpie said...

knowing that DanaMo had yet to see her first eagle ever, we called her, she was, as she said, at the Antietam Battlefield cemetery...
and she made it back to see her first bald eagles ever

Sounds good Kay, your upcoming evening with the boys....
☺ ☺ ☺

Kay said...

No doubt those sharp eagle eyes were watching you all when you were under the Sycamore Palace ! They must have been waiting for you to leave so they could zero in on their home. Surprised you could keep JUDY from scaling the tree to cut back the leafy branch we've all griped about ! Guess she's heading home now for a grand reunion with Jordyn. Safe travel JUDY !

Kay said...

What did you have for lunch besides parsnips ? I don't think I've ever seen those on a menu and can't say that I've missed them !☺

LYNN, I put out fresh bowls of vinegar/detergent three times over two days. "Caught" a few more over night and seem to be gnat free this a.m.. May change once a door to the outside is opened. Do you change the brew that way or just leave it out for a while ? I noticed the odor dwindles after a few hours and that's when the little pests began to ignore the bowls.

It was so wonderful yesterday connecting faces with names. Right away I felt the hugs and love of the people that have come to join the blog and are NOT now new people hee hee. Lori I just love you, you are so precious, DanaMo I felt we have been so close us both know the Pries at St. Mary's.
JudyE to know you on the blog was just like I thought you would be. So full of life and loving.
I am so proud to have met the 3 of you. You have those wonderful hugs and to know you are a part of us. HUGS♥♥♥

Paula needs prayers for Tony and Heather that they may find the answer they see, and are at peace with it in their hearts.

Diann glad you made it to the Reunion. I just know you enjoyed it ( :

DanaMo your Dad comes home today. Prayers that he will take it easy and give time for Gods healing.

Lori I see your Mother is coming home also today. Prayers that Gods gives that stomach HEALING by the "TOUCH OF HIS HAND".

Kay glad Seth and Malcolm will be with you some of today ( : Kay there was so much excitment over the eagles flying in. One eagle flew some putting on "The Momster
Show" so I am thinking that was our Belle. Then flew onto a limb. Then the other eagle flew in. I don't think JudyE had even thought the whole time about trimming the
nest plants. lol

The menu was great as always at NCTC. I know my grandmother fixed parsnips. I couldn't remember what they taste like. I got them with my turkey and dressing.
Parsnips were delicious!!!!!!!

I enjoyed out guide Marie Brady. Yes young but fascinating. Loves nature. She had already told us there is a path going over to the nest. While we were waiting at the
Admin. Bld. for others to come. We told her we would be better to drive over. Some of us could not do that path. So I do believe she knew where the nest was. Just wasn't watching it for the eagles.

Good morning to all.

Will be very busy the next few days so visits will be few and far between. Have 100 papers to read/grade, police class begins tomorrow night, Darth requires some driving to/from hospital. No need to send out a red alert. Will check in when I can.

Tried to skim over recent posts. Paula, not sure the reason but prayers for Tony and Heather.

So happy the NCTC visitors had so much fun. Looked at Margy's pictures. Not one unhappy face in the bunch. Wonderful memories for all.

Okay, need to get to work to grade as many papers as possible before heading for the hospital.

Be back when I can. Love and hugs to all.

JUDIE Good luck with your busy days...look after DARTH and I wish you both well.We will miss your posts.

BWO update on Cam

10/20/11:
Technical Update We have a slight delay in getting the Osprey Cam back online. We're waiting for the Visitor Center contractors (who caused the water damage) to purchase our new PC, but we hope this will happen soon. Note that we will not let the PC issue delay the start of the Eagle Cam season.

paula eagleholic said...

Sharon, we are going to take name suggestions and then vote on the Momster group

I'll send out an email this evening with instructions!

Sharon, that horizontal branch was trimmed off last year.

Hoda, DanaMo has pics that include Lori in the group pic...and so does Wanda.

Good Morning - Tues is my day with Kristen and we are enjoying ourselves.
Except she is rearranging my dish cupboards - I hope hubby can find things

Clarification on my comment from yesterday Marie said she has always
known about the eagles' nest and where it is. Also Marie can't see it from her
office but does and will check it out as
she drives to & from her work bldg.

paula eagleholic said...

Thanks for the clarification Jo!

wvgal_dana said...

Paula Will the vote be a "POLL VOTE LIKE WE DID TO COME UP WITH THE NAMES LIBERTY AND BELLE"?

Mema Jo said...

Now for the Good News I received from
the Mastrangelo boys

Joseph & Andrew with their dad down in
the back yard were going to shoot off
a rocket. They did so and it makes some noise. Lo and Behold they looked up and 3 bald eagles were circling overhead above their house. They called out to their Mom and she said she was in awe watching them circling and going higher & higher. Their dad joked them that he didn't think they were bald eagles. Well Monday was the library day and Anthony told the Librarian about the sighting and asked for some books about eagles. He brought them home and showed his dad what the eagles look like in flight. He knew he had seen them and proved it to his dad. My gd and I are so thankful the children appreciate the eagles and all things pertaining to Nature.

Laurel called with an interesting story.....Joey took Bosco and PC (Porch Cat) to the vet yesterday. Bosco is doing great for a large, old dog. Yea!

PC is not a young female, LOL, but a 2 to 3 year old male cat. He has been neutered. Laurel was afraid the stray had all kinds of problems, but no, PC is just underfed. So, he is now getting up to date with shots and PC is now living in the garage. The garage door is left open enough for PC to go in and out, but closed at night to protect PC. Guess PC should now be called GC! LOL

If Laurel can ever get Isabelle to accept PC, PC can move to indoors. Oh, and Laurel put a catbox in the garage and PC is litter box trained. Yea!

Good Afternoon!

JudyE - Safe travels today as you make your way back to FL

Sharon - You crack me up!!! Palsy?

Time for me to get a move on! Did not do too much yesterday after mowing. Think I will try to do a little more today and see how I feel. I sometimes think sitting around while sick, makes you feel worse than you are. Does that make sense?

Anxious to see your pictures, Lori!
