LYNN and MARGY
I have aMUlti Faith Calendar and it lists things in Universal Time.
Thisis what they have to say about converting Universal Time to Local Time...

" Thre are two ways you can convert Universal Time to Local Time:

1) Add ONE hour for every meridian
(15 degrees) east of zerp Longitude. Time zones east of Greenwich can fall the following day.

2) Subtract ONE hour for every meridian( 15 degrees) west of zero longitude. Time zones west of Greenwich can fall on the previous day.

Sir Sanford Fleming established Universal Time in the 19th century, and created a standard time system for the earth. He didvided the earth into 24 pole to pole meridiansspaced 15 degrees apart. Greenwich is the centre of the meridians at zero degrees.

The west cost is 120 degrees. Divide it by 15 it gives 8...so for me I take eight hours off to figure out local time.

So if you would like from an Atlas figure out the degrees of the east coast and divide them by 15 and it will give you the time.

I figured three hours difference between east and west coast. So you all would subtract five hours to get local time.I did not figure it out through an Atlas for the East coast...

I hope this is not confusing and sheds some light on Universal time.

Quick visit.

Dinner over. Chinese take out/carry in.

Jo, in case I forget, have a wonderful picnic tomorrow. The weather should be perfect.

Paula, safe travel. You and Nick enjoy the weekend.

Sure hope GG and all are having a terrific family night, especially if GG is having some Jayden time.

Too late, Hoda. I have already revised the test for insanity to include a question about those who sit watching and talking to invisible eagles. lol

Headed to the t.v. BBL, I hope.

Thanks Hoda...I think I follow most of that....not so sure about the Atlas part, but understand the 15-degrees concept, and I'll work on the atlas part;
I like the idea of a Multi-Faith Calendar even more !

I am quite fond of a little booklet, Our Daily Bread...
something for each day....a scripture passage, and a more or less modern analogy to it, and then a phrase/paraphrase for the day
here's one I liked this week:

Faith connects our weakness to God's Strength

Decided to return as I am fading quickly.

The sandperson is merciless.

The night light is on for anyone who needs to arise in the darkness and for anyone (Andy and Hoda) coming in late from the West coast. Restful sleep for all.

Evening Everyone in Eagleland!Read that eagles were heard, but not seen.
Saw that Lori's buddy, Kate, had good test results!!! ☺
And Mai has a new home. Will have to find info on that later.
DanaMo, I can understand Aric being a little overwhelmed at first w/college.I breezed thru high school and thought I hit a brick wall at Univ. Shouldn't take a LOT of classes first year.

POWER at Chelsea.Got home a little after 8 PM. So our leader
lady, Kathy, was cranking out lots of work. I made a banner & started 6 road signs to go with it, but will have to finish over weekend.
She's designing panels for a celebration in about a week of an old school. She stayed up til 1 AM most nights at home working on computer. Today, she could print the text and pictures.Altho, the historian folks sent the text, etc., she begged them to double check name sp. Seems the school, town, and a family all have the same name, but is spelt 3 different ways! They had some errors, of course!Kathy can't possibly reprint all that, so she made whole lines of text in little strips w/corrections that can be placed on top.
I hunted and pecked on Blogger last night & accidentally found the way to resize pics & correct spacing, so put up my only Hurricane pictures from 2003---Isabel. Think conditions are similar, but heard road to Park was covered in downed trees and wires. It's more narrow than our Park entrance road I think.
Gotta finish din din~~~later

hedgie said...

Loretta, glad you got back to work....sorry it was such a long day! Belle DID appear this eveing at 8:01 but only for a minute! Pic is in Momster album.
I don't know any details of Mai's adoption---just that she WAS.

Linda said...

Sorry I disappeared there for a while.

We had a late dinner and I have been "computer fixing" again. This time the second office location of my work.

Lynn - Dennis has been MUCH better. Could have been the power, but he did say he was going to make a concentrated effort to to be so impatient and short with me and it's been so much nicer! We're both happier! I just find he gets frustrated so much easier than he ever used to.

Lynne2 said...

evening all....

Sorry to see Aric is having some adjustment issues. I'm sure it won't be long til these first weeks are just a memory.

Glad to see Kate's test results were good!

Thanks for checking on the Darvocet Hoda. I guess it must be pretty much banned everywhere by now. UGH.

So happy to see Belle made a visit! And alone? perhaps Truder is being chased out of the picture by Liberty? one can hope....

We'll be staying home this weekend. My house has become a pig stye as I have worked every day this week. Need to start getting more coordinated again!

hedgie said...

Glad that he is better, Linda, and that he recognizes it as his problem. Maybe he needs a part time job!! Full retirement isn't for everybody! Or he could get involved in some volunteer work. It might do you both good!!

Linda said...

Lynn - I just think he gets cranky and short. He has MUCH to do here and is outside most of the time. He is one of those that does EVERYTHING!

He splits his own wood, has a huge garden, does woodworking, is moving stuff from our basement to the new barn, keeps the yard, has spent time this summer running electric and phone out to the barn, and more. And he helps inside too. He does the vacuuming for me, mops the floors most of the time, and does over 50% of the cooking. He definitely stays busy and I'm spoiled in that regard!

Lynne - Welcome!! Do you have to work Saturdays? Hope you had a good day today! ♥

Lynne2 said...

No, our clinic is not open on Saturdays! YAY! Today was, as usual, very busy. The receptionist I work with on Fridays gets kind of cranky!

Lynne2 said...

WOW, Dennis is a busy guy!

Linda said...

Although, he does do so much that sometimes I feel like he is taking over everything and it's kind of weird. Learning to share your home and kitchen after retirement is a bit different. I always was in control of all that stuff - where it went, how and when I took care of things, etc.

In the winter he does even more inside the house because I am busy with tax season.

Linda said...

Yes, Lynne - Dennis really is. He is always doing something.

I think he may build us some new kitchen cabinets once he gets the upstairs part of the barn fixed up as his wood shop!! He likes doing that!

Lynne2 said...

Well, I need to get to bed. No scheduled activities tomorrow other than cleaning, but I'm trying to keep within a hour of my bedtime anyway. I seem to get up very early even when I don't have to, and even if I stay up late, and end up feeling like doo doo.

So, goodnight and prayers for you all!

Linda said...

Well, I am glad you have tomorrow and Sunday off, Lynne! How about Monday?

Cranky people aren't easy to work with, especially when they have no reason to be that way with you!

Linda said...

I've got lots of tomatoes to can tomorrow. Here's hoping I learn how in the next 12 hours!! Ha Ha!!

It looks pretty easy, but I was thinking of doing crushed tomatoes like I use when I makes sauce or chili. I don't know if I should just can them and crush them later, or crush them first. Any suggestions?

Linda said...

I don't "makes" sauce....... I "make" sauce!! LOL

I do have a canning book, by the way!

Lynne2 said...

Oh, she's not cranky with me. She's just cranky! It really is very, very busy. I just let it flow......But some things I do make her crazy, like when I have 6 or 7 charts on my desk....she's convinced no one can work like that! But I'm always on top of what I'm doing! Or, like when we pull charts for the next day or so....she pulls them one at a time and writes them up (we just write in the reason for the upcoming visit) and I pull them all out into a pile and THEN write in them. Just so funny how nuts that makes her! Besides that, she's a Raven's fan.....UGH! So ever Friday, I wear my Steelers sock and she wears her Raven's shirt! All in good fun!

Lynne2 said...

Linda, I have never canned anything in my whole life! So I have no idea!

Lynne2 said...

I'll see you good folks in the morrow!

Was watching the Weather Channel. Don't know how that Lee slipped
in so fast, but will cause lot of rain in Gulf Coast--Galveston & maybe Houston, TX, but not further West. :>( There's a front coming down & looks like by Sunday or so, could be rain from ME to LA!!! We have chance of rain for next 7 days! Was rain in Winchester area awhile ago.
Hope to get more pics on blog over weekend.
And I wanted to get my Do trimmed Monday, but it's a holiday!
Guess Paula may have already headed to Paradise. I bet she couldn't wait!
If I konk out in front of TV (highly likely) please have
Pleasant Feather Dreams ;>)

Linda said...

I've used that pickyourown.org site before for other things!! Thanks again, Hoda!

hedgie said...

Hi, Lynne. Good night, Lynne! I'm glad you aren't going anywhere this weekend! Try not to work too hard!

Linda....I would say crush your tomatoes before canning. You'll get more in each jar!
I knew that Dennis worked very hard at home.....but was thinking maybe a change of scenery could make a difference!!!! You are a really lucky gal to have such a good dubby!!!

For those kind of new----that is hubby spelled with the first initial of YOUR's first name!!
Loretta started it with a typo---fubby for Frank; Lolly followed I think with jubby for Jack, etc.

hedgie said...

Linda, my son-in-law cans his tomatoes for salsa! Another great use!!!

Hoda said...

Loretta, PAULA did head to the beach, she must be close by now and we are waiting on her to check in.

Goodnight LYNNE 2

Hoda said...

Thanks LYNN for the explanation of fubby, jubby , and dubby...LOL

hedgie said...

Loretta, can you slip a hair apptmt. into tomorrow's schedule??
Yep, Lee developed rapidly. Hope it isn't too bad for the Gulf folks. Have a good night---in the bed, not the chair!!!

Wishing Paula would check in....

hedgie said...

Speaking of weather....Mom said it was 114° on her patio yesterday afternoon in Missouri. Yikes! Supposed to be 90'ish here for next two days, so guess it's filtering eastward---with humidity.
And sorry, Jo----storms are now possible in the forecast for tomorrow.

Linda said...

Lynn - I didn't know about the fubby, jubby, dubby either!!! That's cute.

I do agree, getting out would be good for him, but he is such a MAJOR home body!! He did work part time at a local garden center for a while, but they worked him to the bone, since he was the biggest, toughest guy who would actually WORK!! He ended up miserable, so I told him to quit!

I should make him get out more, even with me. He hates to leave, but is always glad he went!

hedgie said...

I will say night-night to any who may be going to turn in. Going to take my bath...and then will check back to see if Paula is in Paradise, and to check on the late-comers.

Linda said...

That is a good idea for salsa, Lynn!

Well, I'm almost done with this last update. Ugh....it is taking so long and my scapula (is that right, Lynn??) is killing me on both sides. I need a massage!!

Every time I think I am done there is one more thing.......

Hi,Everyone!
Getting here pretty late tonight. Fridays are always so busy for me!
Had to finish transcribing the Dr. reports and get them e-mailed in. Then, don't know quite WHAT hit me, but got busy and cleaned out our pantry and freezer! Go figure! Had a lot of long-expired stuff way in the back, so good thing I cleaned it out.
Need to get in the habit of ROTATING stuff more often! Next project is to put new shelf paper where needed in the pantry. Anyway, after all that, had to go do weekly grossery shopping. Got all of it done! Got some laundry finished & put away, and some housework done, too. As I said before, I don't know quite WHAT hit me!LOL :oD

Oh--Lynn, to answer your question, I AM left-handed. Have learned to do a LOT of stuff right-handed, though, out of necessity--and of course, typing is ambidextrous, I guess.
BTW, glad that Mai was adopted. Hope it works out for her. Don't beat yourself up, either! You went way farther than most to try to make things work out, but she was just the wrong dog for you. Please give Liesl a hug for me! She is such a dear!--she IS perfect!

Have been praying for Aric, and hoping that he will find his niche. It may take a few weeks. Paula's advice is great! A nice care package with homemade cookies might help. A card or note would, too. Don't worry--he'll make it, and so will you!

Lolly, I'm so glad that Annie is back to her old self! Maybe it was a combination of the extreme heat, and her missing Jack. Older animals get to be such creatures of habit, and I think they can get upset more easily when the routine is changed.

Lori, how is little Andie doing? Have you given any thought to keeping her yourself? Glad the two "boys" seem to have transitioned well, and I'm praying that they find a home TOGETHER! ...That's great that the BV fledged! Hope he hangs around to keep you company.

Well, think I will go spend some time with Miss Emma. She has been especially sweet today. She found another spider for me to squish this morning--an ugly one! Bless her heart.

Prayers have been said for everyone, and every creature. Making sure the porch light is on. (Thanks for the night light, Judie!) Enabling both security systems. Sleep well, everyone, and have a great Labor Day Weekend! God bless, and goodnight! Love all of you! :o]
P.S.--Emma says "WOOF!!"

Oh, hi, Paula! Glad there's not too much damage! Hope it's an easy fix.
Mighty glad your bed is dry, too!
Hope you and Nick sleep well. G'night!

PA Nana said...

WOW! Hoda, that time thingy has me very confused. I can figure out the times across the US but that's all. Have to use my fingers too. ;D

So if I'm left handed and have a reasonable function of math, does that make me right-brained?

I just passed algebra and wasn't allowed to take geometry or trig by the school admin. What I really wanted to take was chemistry. I like to analyze
But NO! I switched to a business course. Got good enough grades for the honor society, but too many ahead of me. Very disappointed.

When I started a part-time job after junior year, summer and senior year my grades suffered.

Good evening/morning everyone.

The left/right brain has me a bit confused. If, as a lefty, I should not be proficient at math I must be a mess in the gray matter. HELP!

In high school there was a bookkeeping class and when we had a difficult assignment, all the guys and a few girls would come to my house since I understood the assignment and got good grades. Surprised my parents when they showed up; and me too. Most of the guys were jocks. Some were very special friends that I'm still see & talk to. We'll be celebrating our 50th reunion in 2 years. Wonder if any of those jocks will remember me. :D

Costume Lady said...

Ok, move over Andrea, my turn;)
Love your "dog speak" about Emma, she sounds like a real sweetheart!

Enjoy your weekend Paradise, Paula & Nick:)

We had a cook-out at GG's for our holiday fun. Capt. Gene cooked everything but the baked potatoes and sauteed mushrooms...that's my specialty (not much to that)!
Karla and Jayden were missing, much to GG's dismay. Dustin had a home game tonight and Karla wanted to go to that...Bless her heart, she felt so bad about not coming over.
We kept GG up til almost 9 o'clock. She was close to doing face plants on the table, so I gave her her bedtime pills and Denise took her in to get her jammies on. She came back out and hugged and kissed everyone, ONCE AGAIN:) It was a good night for her:)

I will most likely be working in my shop tomorrow, getting things straightened up and ready for HALLOWEEN...next month! Hope this is a good year:)

lYNN, seems it took a long time for Mai to get adopted, I thought she already was.

LORI...Victor/Victoria must have well under your care and made a big, healthy fledge:) You did good!

MARGY, hope all the CRAZIES stay at home this weekend and that your phones stay quiet:)

Has JUDIE had her first instructional school day yet? I have not read all the comments...I'm about to do a face plant, which is good. If I didn't do 'near face plants' I wouldn't know when to go to bed:)

GOOD NIGHT MY FRIENDS
SWEET DREAMS
PRAYERS FOR ALL

Hoda said...

Pa NANA, don't worry about the Universal time thing...when you see it listed subtract five hours and you will get east coast time.

Now it is past midnight and no one is reading...so I will confess!!!
Last time I took a math class was my first year in the American University of Cairo. I had to take math as it was a requirement. I was such an awful student that the professor made me promise to not EVER take another math class and rounded me from a forty eight point five to fifty so I could get the requirement out of the way. I ALWAYS hated Math. I am right handed except that I knit with my left hand. A French woman taught me how to knit, a mother of my best friend in Cairo, and she was left handed and I still knit that way...when I try to change I drop stitches and my knitting is not smooth nor does it have flow, tight stitches...so what does all this mean LYNN??? Shhhhhhhhhh...don't tell my math secret to anyone!!!I figured you are all mostly asleep by now so no one will notice...

Costume Lady said...

DIANN...I had a bookkeeping class in my Junior year and could not grasp it very well. My teacher told me that I would never make it as a bookkeeper.

I wonder if anyone is going to be up to watch Belle and Truder when they arrive in the morning? Is LORI working on the long weekend? DANAMO is not, JUDYE does go to work...if I get up I will go to the Sycamour Palace Café...maybe KAY will be there??/ Goodmorning to all who will be up to report on their arrival.

Hoda, your secret is safe with me.
I'll probably forget come morning.
;o)

Wanda, have the same problem. I'm a lefty and my mother was a righty, but she insisted that I learn to crochet. And I did, right handed.

And when I played softball in school I threw left-handed and batted right. Go figure....

That's why I think I have a mixed up brain. :D

Well, not really, DIANN! I woke up at three, went back to bed and tried to sleep so got up at 3:30. I should always check in first that I'm on instead of reading the blog non stop and just missing people! Maybe that's my right handed/left brained way of doing things. :)

Lori O. said...

I'LL BE UP TO CATCH OR NOT SEE A VISIT - NO worries HODA. Love that you think that way! Great lesson on UCT, and you KNIT! What do you like to knit? I prefer crochet, just one hook to manage.

LOLLY, I'm so happy Annie is doing fantastic. Watching them want to play again is such a high, as if they are well again! Glad that Jack/jubby is home again. :)

SHIRLEY, why do you think it's obvious you are a right brainer? Just curious. ♥

LYNN, I agree with JUDIE, no guilt over Mai!!! Being on the inside of a dog rescue I've seen it many times and you did the absolute right thing for both of you! It has to be a match for it to work. The rescue should accept and learn from Mai's misplacement. You, put a smile on! No one here would change a thing about you. ♥

The cats are fed now and baby Andie is looking for hers...but her's goes in the blender so I can't do that until Kate is up. Andie is going to be one big cat. She's so tall and lanky with huge feet but still so young so it's very funny to watch her play! I don't think we will keep her. Would love to, but five cats is enough. KNOW THY LIMITS!

KAY, how cool that Lauren is at Univ of Beijing! Hopefully she'll bring her Grandma a great gift when she returns...a trinket and lots of good grades! So what do you have planned for Seth and Malcolm night?

Now, if I could just get in a pill, or fruit or something like what ANDY had yesterday that made her all pepped up to clean the house I'd be in fine shape!

Lori O. said...

Need to go look at LORETTA's Isabelle pics. Total blessing that DC escaped with minimal rain and wind with Irene.
Still love that HIDEY avatar, LORETTA! It gets a smile everytime I see it.

Oh, ANDY, I'm so happy your transcription work is going well with the doctor. All that hard work is beginning to pay off! Awesome for you!

Next weekend I'll be down toward Virginia Beach for a week vacationing!
I'm so excited. The house backs up to a part of the bay that is a wildlife refuge so it should be great ... fun taking pictures.

I'm doing okay with the whole Aric thing, I haven't heard back from him since I have offered my advice to him. He must have been busy yesterday. I hope I'll hear from him today, since the kids that were leaving campus probably left yesterday after class. I hope he has some friends to hang out with on campus. I'm sure there are plenty of kids who don't live in OH, they say the campus is about 50/50. G☺☺D M☼RNING ! Happy to see Belle showed her pretty face, at least briefly, last night. Cam down for morning, bummer !

LYNN, yes, Lee is my youngest kid and only son and he does live in NJ. He calls and e-mails frequently--a great son !

MARGY, thanks for the book info ! It's on my library list now.

JUDY, the OK duel cam is a nice set up. However, as a daily visitor during mating, nesting season, I can tell you the cams are frequently down. Solar powered and vulnerable to weather problems. Far from ideal.

LINDA, in describing Dubby, you described my Subby--thank your lucky stars--not all guys are that great !

LORI, hmmm, a gift from China, maybe. Poor Lauren. She tried to back out of going due to her Grandma Judy's condition, but we all convinced her that Judy would hate having been a factor in such a decision. Besides, we have no reason to believe Judy will not be around when Lauren returns in Dec.. Tonight Seth and I will have pasta marinara, listen to Prairie Home Companion---great fun from the MN State Fair and then watch the last episode of "The Big Apple Circus". Hot and muggy with bad air quality is with us again. Not a pleasant weekend for outdoor endeavors.:( Whoopee, you're taking a much needed vacation ! So happy for you !

Lori O. said...

Happy Friday MARGY! Was wondering if weekend's are busier for you since more people are home doing things and stuff to get into !? Yes, Perry's father, Mickey, is one of the dearest men I have ever met. He was a pastor but doesn't do the Sunday thing much anymore because he forgets his place in his sermon; however, he spends lots and lots of time out visiting veterans and patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

Lori O. said...

Hello KAY!!!
Sounds like you have a great plan for you and Seth tonight. I bet Malcolm is always glad to come over, too!
How is Lee's MIL Judy doing? That was so nice of you to talk Lauren into going to China despite Judy's illness. Is Lauren going to do a FB page or something where you all can check in and see what she's up to?
This will be the time of her life!
((Big first morning HUG!))

Good Sat. AM! Catching up.....
Andy, thanks for letting me know your hand-dominance! I suspected left!
Diann, glad that it has not affected your math skills!!
Hoda....right handed, but math not your forte, either...and Wanda: right or left?
Diann: I bowl left, and throw a ball right-handed, but bat left. Go figure! Do almost everything else left! I learned to knot okay---it's a two-handed thing....but could NOT catch onto crocheting because Mom and Grandma were both righties and it was just too confusing to this confounded brain!! Oh, I could do a chain---but nothing else!

Wanda, no Mai was in her original foster home all this time (since early Apr.). Who knows---maybe they decided to keep her!

I see our cam is gone......suppose we won't have it back all the long weekend. :( No storm here.....Wanda, anyhting closer to nest overnight?

Good Morning Eagle Pals!!

Hope everyone had restful sleep!

I see some of the early birds were up and at 'em early once again!

I need to catch up, but wanted to wish everyone a Happy Saturday!

See I drove everyone off again! :(

Lori, I'm sure you can't wait for your vacation to begin! Great plan! Lots of photo ops that close to a wildlife refuge. Are you going alone or with other people? Is KAte going to be at home? Alone with the critters? Hope she is feeling okay.
Cute pics of the kitties!

Judie, what do you have planned for the long weekend?

JudyE and Margy---hope your workdays are easy ones!

DnaMo and Kay....up earlier than I expected for a Sat.! Bet you all have cookouts planned by the pools for Monday, right??

hedgie said...

Wanda...sounds like GG was in fine fiddle last evening. What a sweetie. Gee----doesn't seem possible that it's "shop" time again already!! How will you fit that into the busy schedule?

LYNN and LINDA, can't wait for the vacation. Kate and some other ladies going with. First vacation in a few years. Then back to Orlando, Universal this time, first week in October. I'm most excited about the location of the house and the potential of seeing a lot of wildlife.

For A Day of Service, there's a few Virginia State Parks that have asked for volunteers to take pictures that they can use for their websites, volunteer group sites, programs, ect., so I want to try to hook something up there next week and do that on the way down. They didn't ask for professionals (I'm no Glo or Scott) so I should be able to give them something they can use.

HEY!

Isn't this national Vulture Appreciation Day ??

Some kind of Vulture Day

Let's celebrate !!
Thinking of Lori's Baby Fledged Black Vulture !!

Hello from work xo

wvgal_dana said...

Oh Lori your baby fledged !!! ( :
HUGS I am so happy you have one that will be flying around.
Now will it stay in your area?

Good Morning Everyone and Lurkers ( :

I have comments to read.

Prayers need requested; I had ask you all to pray for Mrs. Shoom colon cancer back about month or less ago. She passed away. That is Ed's grandsons babies great grandmother which yes she seen a lot of because Linda did Daycare.
That family needs prayers plus her friends expecially a Micki (lady) and the people she did Daycare for a long time. Thank you all !

Also prayers needed at this time. I call this morning Ed's Aunt Jack down in Florida passed away. She had been sick while Ed was alive. Ed's sister from Johnstown PA called me this morning. Which I thanked her so so much for letting me know. So that entire family needs prayer.

Lolly said...

Back inside! Did not do any work. Jack and I just walked, and sat and enjoyed. It was wonderful! Now, 82 and heading up.

No, no rain. :( Earlier this week we had a 30% chance, then it was 20% and now...it is gone completely. However, we are going to have lower temps. Hopefully, the rain will come....some day!

I am right handed. Have not had any math since high school and then only Geometry and Algebra 1. Squeaked by in Algebra. Jack is right handed and the math whiz..aeronautical engineer.

Lolly said...

Sooooooo HODA!!!!! Your secret is safe with me.....I relate!!

I also knit, though have not been doing any since a year ago. Need to get a project started as I love to knit while we travel.

I had a great aunt teach me the basic knit stitch. While in elementary school I was in a little musical play...Hansel and Gretel. I was the mother (tallest girl) and I sat and knitted. lol Then while married but no children yet, I took the Sears knitting classes. I am not a pro, but like to knit.

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

Have been busy here. Rus called last night to say he would like to come down and spend the night so he could head out this morning for his model plane fly-in. He just left for the event.

Kathryn and Hunter are at football practice. It is Hunter's weekend with his dad, so he will be with Tom tonight.

The critters and I are spending some quiet time together now.

stronghunter said...

I liked to crochet many years ago. I tried knitting, but was always afraid I would drop a stitch and never pursued it for too long.

I hear what sounds like thunder. I wonder if Rus will get to fly his plane.

stronghunter said...

There was a knitting club at school. I always marveled at the boys who joined.

wvgal_dana said...

Oh Lolly knitting...lol. My sister is GREAT at knitting or anything like that. Beautiful work!! When my daughter was going to be born. I ask her to teach me to knit. I wanted to knit her a pair of booties for when she was born. Well I got all kinds of excusees. So I got a book and everything and went about my project. Whenever my sister came around I was proud at how far I had gotten. Only to be told, "You have to take that all back out it isn't done right". So I would tear it all out and called her ask her to come show me. She said, "You got the book". So again well my daughter was born and there was 1 bottie finally done right or wrong. Of course my sister said, "This kid does have two feet you know!!!" I was so discouraged I never tried knitting again.

I really enjoy seeing peoples works of art of knitting, crochet or anyting they make.

When younger I loved to embroiery l the pillows cases and sheets ( :

Lolly said...

For those of you who did not see this on fb....here is a link to a video of of rafting on the Colorado river. This is not Jack's raft...but what he did. It is a great video.

Rafting video

stronghunter said...

I really enjoyed your FB video, Lolly. It reminded me of a river trip we took on the Snake River many years ago. We did the calmest trip as we had Rus and Kathryn along. My hubby later did a white water trip in West Virginia, but I was pregnant with the twins at the time, so I stayed home.

Judie said...

Good late morning!

Just doing school work and some house work stuff. No plans for anything special.

Linda, wish our garden had produced enough to can anything. This year and last we barely got enough for eating. Two years ago canned 43 pints of tomatoes. It's hot work but oh so worth it.

Jo, even with rain there will be sunshine on the picnic with you there. Enjoy!

DanaWV, condolences on the loss of Mrs. Schoom and Ed's aunt.

Lori, not sure if this coming week starts vacation, but if so, please enjoy.

BBL

Lynne2 said...

OK, not even noon and one project has lead to another and another.....Good thing I have lots of energy today!

Never knitted. My aunt showed me a basic crochet stitch. For some reason, no matter how hard I tried, my stuff always ended up in rounded, tubular things.

Happy canning Linda!

Prayers for your Ed's family DanaWV.

wvgal_dana said...

That was a great!! video Lolly. When I was there we seen several rafts going down the river. Remember on fb the one picture where my daughter is throwing the stick in the water for the dog. I told you all that the dog had his own rafting outfit.

I had for the time I was out their a Grand Crayon rafting trip. Already set up for her and me. She talked me into canelling it because of my neck and back.

After watching this picture --- she was RIGHT! I would still love to go rafting if I got back out there.

Lynne2 said...

and YES Margy...it is International Vulture Appreciation Day!

Lori O. said...

Oh DanaWV, I can relate, Shirley too.
My mother can knit, crochet and sew probably with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back...and still beautifully. She's tried so many times to teach me new stitches, etc., and I try a few weeks only to stuff it away with the piles of beautiful yarn I have for the one day I decide I'm really going to do it! LOL!

HODA, 2 + 3 = 5? I'll keep your secret, too!

stronghunter said...

Oh, I would love to grow enough tomatoes to can. I did that long ago. Actually burned my tummy canning tomatoes when I was expecting Kathryn. No big deal, though.

I came home from the hospital after her birth and was back in the tomato garden harvesting within a few days after she was born. Kind of surprised my neighbors.

Hmm, I think we are about to have a storm. Power is doing something strange, too.

wvgal_dana said...

Hi Shirley so you like to crochet. My sister crochet curtains and a full size blanket. White with raised up red roses and green petal. It was beautiful!!

I guess she just didn't want me to learn things she was good at???

It is a strange thing though???

When I embroieried I helped any of the girls that wanted to do it. It made me happy to see their excitment and their finished item.

Wouldn't know why a sister wouldn't feel the same way????

Lynne2 said...

SO, I am changing my avatar to celebrate Vultures!

stronghunter said...

Hmm, storm that was supposed to miss us is coming through.

Lynne2 said...

Dana, some people just don't have the patience to teach others things like that. That's probably all it was.

Lolly said...

I am off to really start my day. Need to get beautified and eat a bite. Need to get to the grosssssery store...Laurel and family coming tomorrow. Going to pull one of the rolled flank steaks out of the freezer. Yummy!!

Have a great day!!!!

Lori O. said...

Hooray for the VULTURES on their special day! And, for all the Momsters who went through the fun of having vulture chicks with me! Thanks for the reminder LYNNE & MARGY!Haven't seen my little guy this morning.

Love that avatar LYNNE and in orange, my color!

JUDIE, still have to work next week before going. :(

LINDA, forgot earlier that you were canning today. Hope you got the ideas you needed. Mom always made pizza sauce, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce and all the ways you can slice, dice, cut, tomatoes! I, like LYNNE, have never canned in my life.

Lori O. said...

Oh LOLLY, you're already beautiful inside & out.

Thanks for the video. I never get tired of seeing the Grand Canyon. Went river rafting once and scared the devil outta me for two whole days! Frozen to near death, too. Be glad you stayed home, Lolly!

stronghunter said...

Lynne's answer makes perfect sense, DanaWV.

I have similar problems with computer people when I ask them to teach me stuff. I figure I won't have to ask for their help if they show me what they are doing.

Sometimes I think they are just playing it by the seat of their pants and can't explain, because they are guessing their way through the process they are following.

Not sure if that explains knitting, but maybe . . .

You can usually find knitting classes that would probably be fun.

Lori O. said...

Can't change my avatar until LOLLY gets rain. Someone should put up a crochet hook to inspire some of us!

wvgal_dana said...

You all are so sweet to me and I love the people in the group. Even the ones I've never met. In a way I feel I've met all of you.

Today is me and Ed's 22 Anniversay 23 yr together. I am ok (I got great, sweet, wonderful memories)...Mom and I are going to take him out to dinner tomorrow. He liked ham and they serve ham on Sunday.

I haven't told my Mother and Margy I know you go by there. Don't you say a word---zip. I fell out of my bed which is high. Two nights ago-cracked my temple BIG KNOT- dizzy but made it to freezer for ice. Cracked bone runs along teeth...I have a normal appt. with xrays Oct 3rd dentist. I'll just keep that.
My eyes are bloodshot (hee hee I'm a heavy drinker). It is a concussion I am sure. So is my nurse friend. I got inside contusions in many place where I hit.

Daughter said, Mom put a sheet down take that boxspring put in on the floor and then put mattress on it. I hope you don't have a hard time getting up. lol no hard time getting up from it ...like sitting in a chair.

It all happened because I stopped taking a medication slowly. For restless leg syndrome. 3rd day off of it I torn the bed up and fell out. So yes I am back on it. I do know that a certain problem it had started causing I can work on that since I know it was the medication.

I was like a drunk for awhile..after throwing up.

I see my regular dr Oct 27th so I'll tell him too.

Boy am I sore!!!!

WHO serves ham on Sunday? The cemetery? LOL---don't all restaurants have ham anytime?

DanaWV, I too have some words for you. I think putting off seeing a doctor is extremely foolish. It is far better to have a professional decide what is necessary,or not, rather than take such a risk for complications. I am not happy with your decision to wait.

DANA WV, you're getting good advice from people who know---take heed. Too bad about all the sadness in your life, seems to all come at once. May each be comforted in accordance with their need. Your daughter was spot on in having you cancel the rafting trip. Much too far from Denver for one thing and an adventure only for those who are in prime physical condition. From what you've shared of your condition and health problems I'd say you should never embark on something unusual without having a full physical and a doctors okay. Not my biz, JMHO ! Did the nurse friend say the bone running along the teeth is cracked ? OMG. No ham for you tomorrow---how about some grits.☺ Forgive my levity--I know it's an important day for you and in memory of Ed. I'm sayin' ask yourself what he would want you to do were he still here and I don't think it will be "he'd want me to ignore it all until my upcoming regular appts.". No, the man you've described would want you to go for medical help pronto !!! I have to admit to having little chats with Stan now and then, seems to help me sort things out when making decisions and I can almost hear him saying, "Kay, you know what you have to do......".

LYNN, no poolside meal planned yet, but I wouldn't be surprised. It's a sweltering 95° today, down to 84 tomorrow and 72 sweet degrees on Monday ! Yeah, that's outdoor weather !

hedgie said...

I am going to use my phone camera to take a pic of Marlon and Liesl. (Oliver is in the class after hers) I just can't believe how big he is! I will have to send it to Carolyn's phone and then she can email it to me and then I'll be able to post it. I don't have internet on my phone.

wvgal_dana said...

Lori sweetie I am sorry .. I hope I didn't upset you by asking.

I know Lynn and everyone cares.

They would just say like they did when I called. Desk clerk said go to ER. I have Insurance Blue Cross Blue Shield but on Oct. 1, 2009 they dropped to a lesser plan. I have to pay for insurance now each month, and there are two different deductibles I have to meet. So I am paying 80% until then and they pay 20%. Dental they took away all together. Ed's life insurance they took away Oct 1, 2009 he passed Nov 25, 2009. (I had that on my blog as 2010 and found it out and changed the year). So I have to watch every penny I spend. One of my drugs keeps going up and the company won't help me because they said I had insurance. I don't go to my cervical and spinal pain doctor anymore. Can't afford too.

I need to be able to take Mother to Ryans (which I get tried of but it's where she wants to go...price is cheap enough during the week 1-3with tax includes drink $5.82.)

Kay, thanks for telling Dana the "WWED" advice! I never thought of that tactic!!

Glad your weather is set to improve! 72° sounds perfect!!! Not too bad for the pool, either, as long as your stay under!!

LORI, love those kitty pics and hope they find a great or 2 great homes ! The Chinese gov places a lot of restrictions on visitors/students. She is able to send e-mail--had to tell her FB/Twitter friends to resort back to that archaic form of communication. ☺ It will, however, be the time of her life as someone with a double major in Chinese and Art. Last night the group, about 14 students and their Pitzer University prof went to a lively night time area of cafes, bars and street vendors. Time for good sleep today and full exploration of the campus. Tomorrow off to a small village near the Great Wall for the night and then a day of hiking ! I'm so thrilled for her !!!

Eileen's son, Max, spent last Jan-Apr in India for his semester away. No restrictions---full electronic priveleges there. It was so exciting to hear his stories when they were all here last month ! How lucky these kids are !!!

LORI What What...NEW MATH??? 2+3=5??? Since When??? HA HA HA !!!

JO I hope you have a great picnic and I will pray the rain holds off, glad to read there is a plan 2 where you can go under a covered area.

LINDA chime in through out the day so I can know how the canning is coming along...it sounds like a real adventure.

I have crocheted shawls, and bed spreads. I knit sweaters and pullovers, and I have also knit a blanket...

Doing laundry and house cleaning this morning. Watered the flowers earlier but they are beginning to look tired. They have been in bloom since June so I do not blame them really...the herb garden still looks good however.

Sorry about the camera down...I agree we are likely not get it up before Tuesday now...All the more reason I am glad Miss Belle, AKA HRH, Her Royal Highness, stopped in for a minute last evening.
