Thanks for the new thread, Steve.

It's cooled off in So Cal ... just right now, somewhere in the mid 70's.

Gene caught a young groundhog in our TURTLE trap...I hope it was he and NOT a turtle that was the tomato bandit!!!

Wanda, our family came from Minnesota where everybody used to have a garden; so for the first few years after we moved to Del Mar we continued the tradition.

It worked fairly well for a couple of years, although the sandy soil wasn't near as good as they had in Minnesota...

But one year when the garden had just started getting a good growth up, the Cottontails came through one night and ate every growing green thing right down to the ground!!

We harvested what we could, but everything was undersized and we were only able to save enough for a very few salads from that year.

Christie is having another interview right now about the job she applied for. She and Shannon are also getting final preps made for their vacation Sunday---going back to CanCun again. Sure hope she doesn't get sick this time.
Oh, Pelosi......Oblama is on The View....oops, that's Obama, isn't it?
RAINING! Hope it makes it to Megan's.

hedgie said...

Wanda, the "bite" pattern on the tomatoes would be obvious for a turtle---shaped like their snouts. Groundhog or rabbit just plain gnaws away!!

hedgie said...

Lovely tomato Margy grew for you, Wanda!!

hedgie said...

Satellite is out----it is POURING here!

Costume Lady said...

The bite mark is just not deffinate enough to determine what it was. Some were eaten completely, which indicates a groundhog...maybe we have both...have had many times in the past:( Lot of work gone to Hell in a handbasket!

Both of Finney's chicks are doing some serious wing exercises. I wouldn't be surprised if they go today.

Also the last one at BWO, the male, should fledge today, I believe.

hedgie said...

Thunder now.....but rain seems to have stopped, at least for the moment. Guess I should shut down if electrical....will wait to see if there is another boom.

hedgie said...

Jim, one of the Finney chicks hovered completely out of cam view last evening!!

hedgie said...

Sun is back out....wonder if that means cold front has gone through or if it's just going to get STEAMY hot?!

stronghunter said...

Was going to watch The View today, but were watching cartoons instead. Oh, well. I am sure I can watch all of the analysis later.

stronghunter said...

. . . we're watching cartoons.

stronghunter said...

Rain on the weather map looks pretty spotty, Lynn. We haven't had any. Not sure we are going to.

movin said...

I "think" the male at BWO is missing from the nest now...fledged.

movin said...

Take a look at all the changes they are making to the site for San Diego's pandas.

hedgie said...

Ha! Still hot and sticky out there.

Thinking about that huge tomato Wanda showed us reminded me that at our first house, we would plant our garden at the back edge of the yard next to a hayfield. Used REAL fertilizer from uncle-in-laws' dairy farm (yep, yuck!). Grew lovely tomatoes then. When Mom visited, she would climb out of the pool, pick a tomato, wash it off with the pool water and eat it like an apple!

stronghunter said...

That is some tomato, Wanda. It does look like a pumpkin.

movin said...

tHAT is a huge tomato, Wanda, and beautiful too.

I think they have outsized buns and you could make bigger patties for a burger with tomatoes like that.

Looks like the BWO male has returned now.

Had TV on & now that Severe storms should be over for Frederick, Mont. Cos. in MD & Loudon & I think Fauquier in VA, we get to wait and see until Warnings, Alerts, etc. end at 7 PM for LOTS of MD & VA cos. Guess best to look at your weather networks for exact places/times.
Batten down the Hatches!! ☺

hedgie said...

Hope you get NICE rain, Loretta. Sun here now...no coolth!

Christie's interview went well....lots of beny info---ALL good. Laid to rest a couple of her qualms....she has decided she will definitely take the job when they make the official offer, which probably won't come until she returns from Mexico. Just enough time for offer, acceptance, two-weeks notice and then off to Miami for 2 wks. training!

hedgie said...

Just had a six-point buck pass through...fur is getting darker...fall preparations already?!

hedgie said...

Time to run. Going out for dinner with friends......to talk about the beach house!!! I may be a partial owner....hmmmmm!
See all y'all this evening sometime.

stronghunter said...

Sounds like a nice opportunity, Lynn. I hope it works out.

stronghunter said...

Ready to take a panda nap. Tom came and picked up Hunter.

Hunter and I had a nice trip to the library and then to Carl's for ice cream. I think he liked the ice cream part best.

Looks more and more like rain here.

NatureNut said...

He had some sprinkles and then nice rain after 3PM. Not enough. Was nice temp foe awhile, a little sun that's now gone & VERY humid! I don't understand the "chance" until 7PM part. Didn't hear if there will be anymore.
Little Ms. Wren is still sitting in the birdhouse, but she comes out more frequently for breaks. I don't know exactly when eggs were laid, but I was guessing they should hatch over weekend. Guess we'll know by her actions whether eggs are OK or not. I wonder how much longer they will brood if eggs are not viable?? Suppose we will be shown!
Gotta check oven---hate to put it on, but Fubby wanted his Omaha filet!

Hi, Gang,

Thanks, Steve, for the new thread.

Thank you, everyone, for the prayers for the kids' safe flight!
They made it here OK, and it was a smooth journey. Busy as all get out visiting. Haven't read the blog yet--maybe very late tonight.
We went to Jen's favorite lunch place today--Tony's Deli in Anaheim.
The lady that runs the place is the "Sandwich Nazi", but they're the BEST deli I've ever visited! Their sandwiches, mac salad, and cole slaw are FANTASTIC! Gotta run--they're calling me to the kitchen.
Will BBL! :o] :o]

evening all!

Andy, glad your peeps got there and you are having a nice visit!

Sounds like we should have all headed to Shirley's in our PJs today for some fun and cartoon watchin'!

Funny video Lynn! Guess the WOODS isn't the best place for me to spot bears! Sounds like Christie will be changing jobs! Good for her!

Had a bad storm early afternoon that blew power out to some of Irvine...they are on some 3 phase system, whatever that is....most was out, but some stayed on. Then we had a second storm about 2 hours later. I think we are done now! The caterpillars I took over there changed to chrysalises today!

Gotta run for now...laundry calling

Well, here I am and slam wore out from learning technology. The afternoon session was really fun as we learned something about using animation and videos -- how and when to use for specific course goals. Instructor freaked when he saw I pulled up blood spatter video. Tee hee.

Well, I see Shirley made it into "real" clothes and Hunter is eating her out of house and home while watching Sponge Bob Square Pants. Some people don't like that but I find it hilarious at times.

Heavy downpour in D.C. Didn't know a thing until we came out of the workshop and saw the aftermath.

Wanda, so happy you enjoyed the pumpkin tomato. I'll have to try that variety soon.

Hope Christie had a super interview and, if she wants it, gets the job. Oh, see now that it looks very positive. Yippee!

Have tried to catch up quickly. Brain is feeling very old tonight. Going to try to skim the newspaper. BBL

stronghunter said...

Hi,

Sponge Bob: Kathryn said that she saw an interview of the creators of the program and that people were trying to give it some kind of meaning or political message. He said that it's just meant to be silly. And that's all I see--harmless silliness. I think Sponge Bob is much better than some of the other kid's programs out there. I got very tired of I, Carley today, for example.

Hunter told me today that he wishes third grade was the last grade of elementary school. Fourth graders in middle school? Thank goodness, that is not going to happen. I told him that I think he can wait awhile to go to middle school.

stronghunter said...

Blood splatter video. I'll bet that did freak out some people, Judie. I just know you enjoyed doing it, too.

hedgie said...

Hi gang! Fat and sassy here. Great dinner....great company. Waiting for more photos from realtor....if they look as good as what few we've seen, guess we'll be making a trip to the Outer Banks. Hope I can catch Candy while we're down there......but if not, she and her hubby ARE planning to come for Open House!!

stronghunter said...

Kathryn said it is pouring rain at her house. No rain here. Bone dry. We live about 10 minutes apart.

stronghunter said...

Share pictures, Lynn.

hedgie said...

Gee, wonder if Ragdoll felt that quake?! We haven't heard from her since she left for the hike, have we? Hey, Deb.....hope you didn't have any bear encounters!

Wonder how the osprey release has been going in Yankton? Too bad we won't have any pics this year......:( I think Janie spreads it out over several weeks.

Andy, so glad kids made it in okay. ENJOY!!!! Know how happy you are!

Judie said...

I think sometimes people try to "read" too much into what is just meant to be fun. Sponge Bob is fun, for me. Glad to know someone else thinks so.

Yep, I was demonstrating how video could be incorporated into an online/power point presentation for illustration. So blood spatter patterns were being used to show things like how close the stabber was to the victim, did the stabber run or walk away, how tall the victim was relative to the stabber, etc. Great fun -- better than Sponge Bob. 'Course some people get freaked about Sponge Bob. Go figure.

Dana, take it easy. Shirley, glad Kathryn decided not to wait -- $ will work out later.

Okay, I need to get some sleep. Have mostly chores for tomorrow. Hope the temperature and humidity will be more pleasant.

Turning my light off but will leave the night light on for others coming. Hope Andy won't be too tired to set our alarm. Pleasant dreams and prayers for all who are in need.

HI ☺

Just got through prior thread and starting on this one...
but there is pretty sky view in the West:
bright brilliant Venus, and to the left above...like two twins...ruddy Mars, and above it, Saturn...watch for these three in the next few nights as they slightly change positions...

any pre-dawn risers, check out waning Moon and bright Jupiter oooching closer to each other
more in the Eastern/Southeastern sky

need to catch up backwards but the Venus Mars Saturn thing isn't going to be visible too much longer tonight because they are all setting

Yeah, were are all of our MISSING bloggers these days!

Lynn...house at the Outer Banks...cool! Drive is a nightmare in season though. I've been once in October a few years back and loved it. Thought it was interesting how many of the homes on the way down and back had all these tiny little graveyards...in the FRONT YARDS! We were in Corolla. VERY different from what I was used to seeing in OC or DE. Nothing like it. It took us about 6 hours with stops for the dogs to get there, no traffic. Steve has been twice IN season and both times the traffic was horrible and it took almost 9 hours. UGH. But, that's the price you pay for an in season trip. Not fun if going for just a few days.

WE have a beautiful clear sky above us with a light cloud deck to the south and east. Can see MEGA lighting reflecting on them from storm on the eastern shore! Can see the planets! Seems a little less humid finally.

Going to put myself to bed now. Was at Irvine all day and did yard work all evening. I thought the Pred wasn't making a difference in my pain levels, but clearly it is! Wish I could take it forever!

Prayers for all of you friends and have a good night!

Hi everyone. We are having wonderful temperatures after a good hearty rain. I like to play in the rain but don't tell Lynne.

Before I really checked over the posts, I thought how I missed Margy's postings about the ISS and the planet reports.

Lynne's earthquake reports are invigorating and "rock." (he he snort he he).

And where is Slippery Rock? I'm going to have to get the map out.

And I would love to have some baby cardinals to watch.

And prayers are going up for Kathryn

Hi all! Went through the blog fast, sure I missed a lot. However, I did see the bear story,Lynn. That is just awesome! I will trade one armadillo for one bear. lol I'll even throw in a mole!

We spent the morning at the beach but this afternoon we went for a ride. Went to Padre Island Natl. Sea Shore, then went to to harbor to look for ships. No ships but watched dolphins. Then home for a luscious dinner and a walk on the beach. A family had added to this mornings castle. Met them this evening. Cool!

It has been a great week. One more day then home Saturday.

Lynne, if market was good enough to get what my house appraised for 20 yrs. ago, I would move to the O.B.'s in a minute! Just love it down there. Yeah, traffic is a bummer in season.....but off, it's not bad!

Asking for some extra prayers....SIL Shannon's Grandma in hospital---probably a heart attack. His Papaw is already dealing with cancer and can't manage well on his own. Shannon's Mom is heading down to Clarksburg early iin the monring.

BEagle, glad you're back. I missed your updates.

Lynne, glad your ivy pain has subsided. Now stop scratching!

Margie, looking forward to meeting you whenever.

Wanda, lovely tomato. We finally got a few from Jim's garden but they were only as big as a golf ball and one as big as tennis ball.

Lolly's sand castle is lovely too. She's having too much fun. Hope it continues.

To those going or thinking of going to the sandy places, have fun. Myself, I prefer the mountains.

To those I didn't mention, Goodnight and God bless you too. ((hugs))

Hi, Everyone,

Well, everyone but me has turned in here. Kids were exhausted. I need to go make some deviled eggs, so haven't enough time to read and catch up very well. Not sure who still needs prayer, or who is in need of some new ones, but just praying for everyone, and letting
God sort it out. I'm sure He can handle it.

Judie, sounds like you enjoyed your class today--that's good! I LOVE
Spongebob Square Pants!!!! He is the sweetest, cutest, funniest little guy! I love his innocence.
Couldn't find a better cartoon for kids--small ones and big ones alike!
(JMHO, of course.)

Gotta go do my deviled eggs, so am leaving the night light and the porch light on. The eye-scanner security is enabled, and so is Dana's thumbprint-scanner security.
Prayers have been said, so sleep tight. Will talk to you tomorrow, when I have a chance. God bless, and goodnight! Love all of you guys! :o] :o] :o] :o] :o] :o]

I really could do without these random Middle of the Night Sleep Interruptions.

Wanda....wow, it's like an OBX migration for your peeps!

Lynn, if we could move anywhere, and we will after we hit the Mega Millions, we'd be in NC. Beach AND the mountains!! A home on each side of the state! We'll settle in Mayberry of course, as our "middle ground"! I hear that Sheriff Taylor and his deputy are some kinda fun down there!

Very, very sorry to read of Shannon's grandparents serious health problems. UGH. Grandparents are so special...I sure do miss mine. Prayers for them and for the family.

BEagle....don't you go playing in the rain...when it's lightning!! The only Slippery Rock I know of is not too far straight up north from my own hometown which is near Pittsburgh.

Diann, hope you are feeling better yourself! I LOVE the mountains, too. But also the beach! Not so bad to be living in this area of Maryland, where either is only a 3 hour drive! But haven't been to the beach in a few years since my jaunt to the OBX.

Going back to bed now. Tracey and I are taking one of the hawks to a wildlife rehabber in the morning. She's awesome with the birds, and this one has a little case of "bumble foot" that's not getting better despite Tracey's best efforts. Really looking forward to meeting her and seeing her critters!
