Good Morning Ga-Girl...thanks for the call over and welcome to our blog. Don't think we have met yet. I am WANDA and I live in Martinsburg/Sheherdstown, near Lib & Belle's nest.
I watched Mei late last night and she was not her usual listless, restless self. She was eating her bamboo as if she hadn't eating in days. Same thing this morning. First sighting of her at 6:45am, she was eating again with much gusto.
Hi Wanda!..nice to meet you. I am having a great time getting to know everyone. I have been hanging out a couple of weeks now. My name is Mariah and I live in Covington Ga about 20 miles east of Atlanta.
MORNIN' DEB!---We had a most beautiful day yesterday!!---SUNNY--but not hot!!----MONDAYS were always hard for me too--when I was working!---Get the ROBIN NEST pic today!!!---looking forward to seeing your pic!!
MITS---Didn't have much time to scan the blog this am----MM (your sister)---having surgery today---Will certainly keep her in my thoughts & prayers---at 1st read--I thought it was your grand-daughter!!---
Hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day!!---We took a long walk in the woods---with the dogs--looking for wild flowers!!---The dogs thought they were in heaven-----they found the creek!---ho!
I'm new to the Eagle Cam. Would someone please tell me how old this eaglet is? It looks to my untrained eye that he/she is about to fledge -- yesterday flapping wings and hopping up and down. Some info please? Thanks!
MORNIN' & WELCOME--HAWKLADY!!--I think she is a female!!---But no one is sure!!---Isn't she fun to watch!!---We have always had 3 EAGLETS---in the nest---This is new to us watching the 'only chick' eat without competing with other siblings--ho!
Good morning all. I am working now but I feel like I have been beat!! :) Good weekend!
Norma, we didn't get affected by the flooding. It is further north from us. I didn't have a clue it was even happening. I saw it on the Today Show this morning too.
MORNIN' SISSY!---I thought of you folks all weekend!----HOPE YOU HAD FUN!----HECK!!!---you kids have fun---doesn't matter where you are!---That's what we love about you all!! ho!
05/11/09: We hear from photographer Bob Quinn, who was watching the platform this weekend, that everything was nice and quiet at the nest. The father was often seen sitting on top of the camera, and both parents took turns incubating the eggs.
FOR GA-GIRL AND NORMA... AND anyone else that hasn't seen the bears on Snowman Cam, I have posted a picture on my blog WILD AND WONDERFUL of Mama bear and her cubs late last night...it is not very clear, but you can see them, non the less.

Morning all. Jim, Dana told us last evening that Ed's nephews' baby was stillborn. Very sad. Unless there was a delay of some kind, MM should be on the table now...anxious for report when it's over. Shuttle Atlantis scheduled for 2:01 pm lift-off. NASA channel on DirecTV is 283. Seriously doubt that we can see it here in daylight the way we can at night with clear sky.
The worst thing about surgery delays for me was always getting a headache from not having eaten or getting my tea-caffeine fix! Poor MM. Have seen one bear at the cam in the daytime but didn't know about the cubs....thanks for pic, Wanda!!
SUN coming out! Maybe it won't rain after all! Hope we don't have those crazy winds from late Sat. and yesterday---pollen was blowing terribly....achoo! The bear around here is out and about in daytime whenever he's around, but the one where my daughter lives always came at night----he no longer comes since there are no dirty diapers in the trashcans in the area---all the kiddies have aged!!
Hey, Sissy, thanks for b-d wishes. Hope you had a great weekend....don't know details about your friend Patty that I saw you mentioning on Facebook, but it must a been a bittersweet time for you all.....I'm sure you were celebrating her life and not mourning her passing.
Good Mid Monday Morning to you all! Praying for MM's surgery to begin with skilled hands. Don't like surgery delays but could always appreciate emergencies taking precedence and I am sure MM will be just as patient as He is in control. Ceil - thinking of you there in the waiting area! That's sometimes the hardest place to be!
Norma I saw all the 5 children and 9 of the grandkids on Saturday at my daughter's 50th b-day bash. That was also my Mother's Day Delight! Five of the great grandkids were there! In June I am going to see the Germany crew! I am very excited about that visit! Did you get lots of phone calls
Norma - can you come to Shepherdstown on the 23rd Saturday for the Nest Visit with us?
Norma, she lives next to Sleepy Creek State Forest near Shanghai--southwestern corner of Berkeley Co. I'm on the northwestern corner next to Morgan Co. They haven't seen one in a few years; I last saw one here last summer.
New update this am at LOON site!! There is another set of LOONS on the lake & two other birds have gotten up too close---at least they think the NEST LOON has been in a defensive position most of am!! some times we forget birds can sense feelings of fear too!!
One of the baby's at HI is stuck to it's parents talon or something!! The parent keeps going from one side of the nest to the other and the baby is stuck. Can't tell if it is stuck on the talon or what!!!! OMG, I can't watch!!
I just went on a walk this morning. Now starlings are thought of as aggressive mean spirited birds. This morning a gold finch was attacking and chasing off a starling! It was a funny sight to see.
Hidey needs to settle down!! My heart is in my throat as it is.
HI was my worst experience yet since I have been watching the cams. And that is my favorite cam to watch (besides ours of course). Don't think I will go back there today.
OMG...poor baby. I'm getting a message that HornbyIs1 is shutd own due to bandwidth usage and won't be back on until they fledge...huh? Trying to get 2 up....not having any luck.
Yeah, I turned off the sound at HI too, looks pretty calm right now but not sure what is happening. My heart doesn't fair too well with this stuff. Head really pounding now.

Both Liberty and Belle were in nezt just minutes ago, one of them think it was Belle was pecking at the camera haha!!! Then she flew away. Hidey is looking more eagle like through the eyes to loosing her baby face. Just my opinion....
thanks for clarifying who's who! I do know the larger is the female, I just get the names mixed up. I've seen some comments about when Hidey will leave the nest - that it happens at about 10-12 weeks. Is that right? Do they ever come back after that?
They do come back for a month or so after they fledge. After they fledge, we all sit and hold our breaths until they return but that is sometimes a day or so before they return.
Hello to all, I am new to this blog and at work, so we will have to get to know each other later. Just wanted to let you know that at about 6:30 am (EST) Hidey flew from one side of the nest to the other! He was on the farther side going toward the tree trunk. He snatched something out of the air - a bug maybe? Will get back on after work- Vickie
I have been watching---looks like it was MOM that returned to nest alone & has covered the other EAGLET!---POOR THING!---She is at least saving this one!!---keep praying!!
Anna, there was an eaglet at Hornby Island that was somehow stuck to the mother and they are saying it fell off when she flew out of the nest. Not sure if they are looking for it on the ground. Our Hidey is still alive and well though!
There are some pretty nasty people on the Hornby Island chat. I will hunt you all down if you start getting nasty on here! :) Well maybe not but we have always gotten along so well and I am so grateful for that! We have loved each other through so very much!
that is because any freakin idiot can come onto the chat, we have gotten rid of some of the nasty people on here, thank heavens, or at least those who think they know it all.
At 10:30 this morning I looked under the eagle tree and found Echo lying on the ground. I picked him up. He was soft and warm but absolutely still - no signs of life.
Just when we realized that Echo was managing very well in dealing with his big sister and was getting his share of the food, this totally unexpected tragedy occurred.
We are all upset. It reminds us how tenuous life is, especially in the wild. We will miss little Echo but still have Hope.
HEDGIE---That is DAD in the nest with little 'HOPE' under him!--He fed her & she was starved!---I don't know where MOM is now!---I'll never forget ECHO---even though we hardly saw him!!!---

OH MY GOSH. WHAT HAPPENED AT HI.. ONE OF THE ADULTS JUST FEW AWAY WITH THE BABY ATTACHED TO IT...
One of the baby's at HI is stuck to it's parents talon or something!! The parent keeps going from one side of the nest to the other and the baby is stuck. Can't tell if it is stuck on the talon or what!!!! OMG, I can't watch!!
My heart is beating a thousand miles a minute. That was a horrific site!
Parent back in the nest now but I can't see the babies.
Ga Girl / Sharon
Can you give an update
I have Hornby up but only see the adult's tail end in the nest
Oh My What a cry
WEE ONE STILL ATTACHED. SHE HAS SAT ON THE OTHER ONE
so sad:(
It's little Echo
Link to Hornby forum (does have some pics)
OH JO!----I thought you understood that I can't come on 23rd---that's Memorial weekend!!----Sorry--
I think we just got sound back on our cam!
I just went on a walk this morning. Now starlings are thought of as aggressive mean spirited birds. This morning a gold finch was attacking and chasing off a starling! It was a funny sight to see.
They are saying it is still stuck. That was just too much. He is still stuck, i think he is dead.
Yeah, it is dead. Omg! I can't watch anymore!!
That whistling sound I hear must be baby eagle talking to himself.
He's noticed the camera. He staring right into it!
Sharon - I had to turn Hancock sound off but I do think our Cam now has the
sound back on! Thanks for the alert
I hear the wind.
Hidey is singing - "Mommy wow, I'm a big kid now"!! Serious wing flapping happening!
Head really pounding now.
http://www.wildearth.tv/web/hornby-island2
OMG---OH NO!---What will happen now--NATURE is cruel sometimes--
this is too -- too gruesome!
Yeah, I just posted on their chat that this is mother nature at its worst!
They have contacted the powers that be but I am not sure how they could get close enough to the parent to remove the baby.
Can't tell what is happening....got 2 up and mama is just sitting quietly...
Hidey, cute pet name for the eaglet. It looks windy and cold at the nest. Hidey's flapping around and almost lifting off.
I thought Hidey was out of there just now. I think I might work and not watch any daggone thing for a while!
oh my goodness --- hidey testing those wings has gotten an inch or two above the nest, in a hopping/flying kind of thing!
real glad the sound's back. that's what alerted me something was going on. :)
Someone called Doug and he is going to watch carefully....don't know what in the world they could do....if they were able to climb she would probably just take off with the baby still stuck...
Dad back in nest now.
Mama is hollering loudly.
This eaglet is big and has grown up awfully fast. I wonder if it is a female?
How many eaglets does Hornby have? Looks like two distinct bodies moving under her.
Or maybe not....baby looks bigger up close.
Ceil just called they are still waiting, Dr still doing emergency surgery
Oh wow, Mits, that is the pits!! That is the hardest part sometimes of having anything done!!
Hi all. We have several in our office that are watching as much as we can and we have a question. Can anyone tell us how old our baby is?
WVGirl, Hidey hatched on March 14.
And bless MM's heart. It is so hard to wait once you get psyched up to go for surgery!
What going on at hornby is the pits!
Ceil says she is sleeping on and off, wish I were up there.Mary Margaret is such a sweet heart and so is Ceil, I am blessed
I think Ceil and MM are pretty blessed to have you too!
aww thanks, Sharon
I agree, Shar! Mits, you need to stay put for your ribs' sake AND to keep us posted!!!
Thanks, Eagle-Eyed Sharon...we really appreciate the info!
We love to share information with each other. That is how every one of us have learned!
Sun is gone and it's getting gloomier...think the rain is getting close.
Had some phone calls - distant death in the family.
Still following the Hornby's
Praying that MM surgery happens today - maybe late in the day and she will be able to stay overnight like she wanted to!
Parent just brought Hidey's lunch. I think she had been looking for it for a little while!!
It looks like Hidey don't know quite what to do with a still wiggling fish but parent just left and I reckon she is fixing to find out!
Hidey has his lunch!
Sorry, Jo, that there has been another death. My sympathies.
It is so awesome to watch Hidey learn - he/she's picking at the fish. I have never seen this so up close as I'm new to this. Very cool!
And yes, it is addicting - seems I'm watching this more than I should while I'm working :)
I am home for lunch, need to catch up on the blog.
Hidey turning her head completely upside down for Belle to feed her.
Hidey may find she can eat faster by feeding herself! lol
Raining here now.
HOPE at Hornby is alone in the nest. I didn't see where Mom went..... I was
emailing Deb
Well, the mom just flew off at hornby, hopefully when she returns the eaglet won't be with her. That is so sad. :(
I hope MM gets into surgery soon.
Hidey left half his fish so Momma had to land in the nest and feed him the rest of it. Momma is a beautiful bird!
Adult back at our nest. Lunch is over, bbl.
I am keeping an eye on Mei in the birthing den eating the bamboo!
Whole family in our nest!
Moving sticks again!
HI site said parent flew away and was sure they saw Echo fall away. bless its little heart!
Wow, up close and personal at our cam!
The whole fam damily is in the nest!
OMG - both Lib and Belle are in the nest and Lib (the female?) is right up in front of the camera.
Lib was just yelling into the cam
We sure do have a FULL NEST !
There went Lib...looks like another fish laying in the nest?
Becy - Liberty is the male
Belle is the female
Hard to tell them apart Belle is the larger of the 2
Awful morning at HI :(
Liberty is the male and Belle is the female Becky.
Both Liberty and Belle were in nezt just minutes ago, one of them think it was Belle was pecking at the camera haha!!! Then she flew away. Hidey is looking more eagle like through the eyes to loosing her baby face. Just my opinion....
Very, very sad at HI. The other one is sitting up there so pretty, like not a care in the world.
thanks for clarifying who's who!
Hello to all,
I am new to this blog and at work, so we will have to get to know each other later. Just wanted to let you know that at about 6:30 am (EST) Hidey flew from one side of the nest to the other! He was on the farther side going toward the tree trunk. He snatched something out of the air - a bug maybe?
Will get back on after work-
Vickie
Welcome Vickie and thanks!
Some talk on HI forum that Echo may have fallen in the garden...guess Dave will be looking.
Mary Margaret just went into surgery
Bless her heart!! PRAYING STARTS NOW!
so sad at HI, those chat rooms are crap, it would be better if they had a blog like this, where things could be talked over at a better pace
Clouds threatening at Kennedy...ready to resume countdown as of this moment.
I have been watching---looks like it was MOM that returned to nest alone & has covered the other EAGLET!---POOR THING!---She is at least saving this one!!---keep praying!!
Sorry I missed seeing that SC Eagle Lover! I'm sure Hidey will treat us to many more antics before the first fledge!
Welcome!
Did we lose a eaglet? Where was this at so sad!!
Anna, there was an eaglet at Hornby Island that was somehow stuck to the mother and they are saying it fell off when she flew out of the nest. Not sure if they are looking for it on the ground. Our Hidey is still alive and well though!
Hornby's little Hope is now being fed by the adult.

Liftoff!
Mei is looking very very bored!
Wish that panda cub would come!
Exciting feeling Lynn!
Lift Off!
WHoo Hoo! Yesterday has NCTC ranked #2 on the beakspeak.com.
On the 7 day range we are #6.
As I keep saying ---
We know we are #1
Oh, Mits, relieved to hear that MM didn't have to wait any longer....4 hrs. is plenty long enough!
Panda nap time! For me and Mei!
Very strong thoughts for our Mary Margaret
BBL
Oh, poor Hidey. Mommy ate all the fish. Well, like they say, "if you snooze you lose"! LOL
Except for me of course and you know that I know everything, right?? :)
for sure:)...there are some real idiots on that chat.....
From Doug Carrick:
IN MEMORY OF LITTLE "ECHO"
At 10:30 this morning I looked under the eagle tree and found Echo lying on the ground. I picked him up. He was soft and warm but absolutely still - no signs of life.
Just when we realized that Echo was managing very well in dealing with his big sister and was getting his share of the food, this totally unexpected tragedy occurred.
We are all upset. It reminds us how tenuous life is, especially in the wild. We will miss little Echo but still have Hope.
If that is the female in the Hornby nest now, whatever was on her face appears to be gone...so it must just have been wet.
As sad and tragic as it is, at least Doug finding Echo puts closure to it. Fly free, little Echo....RIP.
It is a relief to know that Echo was found. That could never have had a good outcome, I don't think!
HEDGIE---That is DAD in the nest with little 'HOPE' under him!--He fed her & she was starved!---I don't know where MOM is now!---I'll never forget ECHO---even though we hardly saw him!!!---
I certainly have more respect for the EAGLE than I had before---and I didn't think I could ever respect them any more!! GREAT PARENTS!!
that is dad in the nest with hope
WELCOME LAYNE!---If you are a bird watcher---you have come to the right blog!----
Oh, wait a minute, you all watch birds on here? I must be in the wrong place.
LOVE YOU NORMABYRD!!
LOL, Sharon!!!! Too funny. We needed that!
