Hi all from sunny BEAUTIFUL western PA. So jealous of y'all getting together at the nest site this weekend. I did get a chance to check out a local eagle nest this week and saw both parents on the nest and then one of them took off to the sky. I am presuming there are eaglets there. Our back quince bush has nesting robins and another shrub has sitting cardinals. To top that off, the next door neighbor has a cotton tail living in her hosta plants about 6 feet from where I am about to plant the garden. Goodbye beans. Today may be the last for birding for a while as the leaf cover makes it difficult. We saw 39 different species on Wed. Youse (see, I'm learning Pittsburghese)have a wonderful time at your reunion. Lynne in PA, formerly Houston TX

Mornin' Mits...any luck with the dolphins yet? A few years ago when I was in OC with my family, brothers sister neices, we were all in the water when this huge school of fish suddenly came at us, jumping like crazy...and then we saw the dolphins! They were no more than 20 feet out from us (we were all in the water). I was such a shock and happened so fast my mind couldn't quite grasp what was happening...and in a few minutes they were all gone. It was amazing! They are there and I am sure you'll see them!

Good Morning, all! Dana, thanks for the reminder-- Bob Quinn has another vote from me! Hidey certainly seems to be enjoying the sunshine this morning! I'm enjoying the birdie concert in the background! Think I'd better go get some coffee, though-- and some breakfast sounds good, too. BBIALW --and TGIF! :o]
Good morning all. May not get on the rest of the day. Busy one. MM has doctor appointment. Hope drain comes out and all is well. Granny BLT we say youse in Baltimore and the DC crowd makes fun of us. Mits, I sure wish I was at the beach maybe having a cup of coffee with you and staring at the sea! It's been a long time since I've seen God's Atlantic! Used to go more often...my mom lived there for a few years.
Morning Deb! Crazy weather you guys are having! I have friends in Ethan, near Mitchell...not sure if that's near you, it's a big state! But they've had the same kind of weather.
Lori, that's so funny! I stopped using the lingo shortly after we moved here when I was 14 because the kids in school always made fun of me....tried to loose that accent as well. Not so easy to do!

I grew up in Southern Calif., and I could be walking thru the biggest mall or anywhere and turn to someone and say "You're from Pennsylvania, aren't you?" They look at me all shocked and asked how I knew. The accent.
Yes you all are right this is Memorial Weekend---Monday being Memorial Day but some observing over weekend. Remember our Service People now servicing and those that have served. That I can remember on our blog; someone please add if I miss any of our blog people that have served: Suzanne, Jim, Red-Bill, oh I feel I forgetting someone???
Hi ya', Mits! Dolphin watching yet? Water temp only 53...you probably know, but for those who don't....Atlantic temp is warmer in Nov. than it is now in OC area!
L know what I wanted to add for Memorial Day to Thank You For Serving Our Country: To All The Blog People On Here That Have A Family Member That Is SERVING NOW or IN THE PAST--THANK YOU !
I could always tell when folks at work were transplants from Michigan, because of the way they said the letter O or some words w/ O in them!!! When I first came to WV from DC/VA, people laughed at my southern accent...ha! They don't KNOW southern! Ceil, tell MM Hi and yes, we are going to miss the Three Sisters tomorrow. Hope Drs. apptmt. goes well and that she is no longer Drano #2!
WOW!! you guys are talking too fast for me to get caught up this morning. Beautiful morning here, looks like Hidey is enjoying it. Weather looks good tomorrow for the nest visit:) Mockingbirds are on full volume here this morning, driving me nuts...... I can't hear the radio over them- Sharon, I can trade you two or three beautiful melodic mockingbirds for that oriole. Gotta get back outside- must finish cutting flowers before the sun gets any hotter. Have a great day everybody!!
WHOA!---MITS!---I'll never forget that time we went to the nest & this tree was completely covered with ORIOLES!!---a BEAUTIFUL sight to see!---We don't have that many here---
Good morning my favorite Norma! How are you this fine and glorious day? Friday morning....but no bread and sausage. And would you believe Jack made raisen bread this week and I ate only 1/2 slice! Down another pound this morning! Only one more pound to go!
What a treat. Got to see the baby and both parents today. What a precious family. One of my avid e-mail buddies sent me the info. on this site, and that's how I got started. Am not very good on the computer so it takes me a while to figure out how to blog. Love, Gwen
Hi Lolly! I can't wait to meet everyone. Feels like the whole family getting together at Christmas! I wish you were going to be there. Wanda I'm excited to meet you, too. I saw your pic with the turtle.
I need to get headed up 270 before these holiday weekend travelers have me spending the night at work.
Wish I could have you all on speakerphone in the car!
See you in the morning.
Please, email if there's anything I can bring.
OH Lolly - I'm a huge gardener, too. Still so much to do. Never done.
God Bless you - each one - may His hand guide you safely on your travels with all the crazy people on the roads. :) Lori
Yeah, now I can say down 39 pounds. Goal was 40. I am going off the diet in a couple of weeks. Going to maintain for a couple of months and possibly diet again to loose another 10 pounds. I am fine now but would really love to loose another 10, but it is time to cook for poor Jack. He has been so great through this. And, LOL he has lost 12 pounds. I think that is because we are NOT having wine as often and he is exercising with me.
Just a heads up to those of you who may travel through Sharpsburg on your way to Shepherdstown. I think most of you are going to meet at NCTC at ten, so it shouldn't be a problem. The Memorial day parade is tomorrow in Sharpsburg and the main street will be closed from around 1-1:15 pm until 2:15-2:30- you won't be able to get thru town then.
This is what I am ordering for you, Lolly: VEAL SILICANO: Tender cut of veal lightly breaded with italian bread crumbs, sauteed with prosciutto ham and fresh sage in extra virgin olive oil. Finished with a dash of lemon and a touch of butter and the chef's choice salad.
Sharon, I do not want any of those stupid starlings...I have too many of my own. I can sweeten the mockingbird deal by throwing in two carolina wrens:) Merry Maids just left the neighbors house...hubby said if they came in our house they would run away screaming, the worst part was I couldn't disagree with him....ha ha- oh well- a little dirt never hurt anyone. Off to water the GH and pick out plants for the weekends mkts.
MORNIN' LOLLY!!---Isn't SHARON on the BALL--this am?? ho!--I automatically think of your home made bread & sausage--most every Fri--LOLLY---you didn't just get beautiful---YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BEAUTIFUL!!---enjoy your family this weekend!!--
Oh, I am so sad! Just heard a thunk. A Hairy Woodpecker just hit the glass on the window, think he is a goner. Adult has been feeding a younger one in the tree above the suet. Possibly it was the young one. He was larger than the one feeding him. I am so sad.
OK, Lolly. When you start dancing on the table, I will take you out of the Wine bottle;)Of course, if your dance is entertaining, I may let you go for a while!
Lolly, we have a list of 19. A good group for a Nest Visit. During Open House, we usually have 30 or so. Lori is our newest Momster and look forward to meeting her:)
Hate it when a woodpecker gets wiped out! Once saw a cat get one of our downey woodpeckers and I chased him all over our property. When I finally caught up with him, it was too late. I wouldn't let the cat have him. Disposed of him myself!
DANA...thank you for getting on your soap box for Bob Quinn and his CAUSE. He is a super guy and we wish him luck in this contest! Vote early and often!!
Go back to Dana's comments at 7:58 this morning and VOTE if you haven't already and if you have voted....VOTE AGAIN. This is a very special cause!
I emailed Chris at Outdoor TV last night about our Pop-Up cam and this is his replyl: ********************************* Wanda:
We have temporarily taken down the pop up cam to see how it impacts bandwidth usage. The eagle cam has been very popular, but unfortunately, some users are leaving it up all day to run which adds quite a bit to the expense of the cam. While we are unable to identify people, we can see IP addresses that are using an extraordinary amount of bandwidth. So our concern is that they are popping up the cam and walking away from the computer with the cam still running.
We are looking at some other solutions to this issue and may be able to add back the pop-up shortly.
LYNN2--NCTC is closed tomorrow & probably this holiday week end!-----You need to ask MEMA JO about it---She is the person that asked for the EAGLEMOMSTER visit tomorrow!
So much to read before beginning! I need to say Hello before reading & take my chances! Thanks Wanda for publishing Chris' response about the Pop Up! I can feel the excitement on the blog! Tomorrow will be great but sure will miss all of you not able to be here with us.
Update on NCTC VisitI just called my contact at NCTC about Security. All buildings will be locked - all the more reason we appreciate the Eagle Express! Anyone planning to visit on Sunday - the guards will use the original list that we had for Saturday to allow visitors on Sun. If gates are closed at entrance - push the # key. The guards would then open them and you would proceed to the Security check point. Have you license ready just in case for ID. NOW - I'll publish the names on here that I have and you need to get me an email QUICKLY to add anyone's names even as a Just In Case. My contact is leaving at 2:00 from NCTC. Clilck on my name for email address.
05/22/09: We plan to take the Osprey Cam to 30-second updates in the next day or two, so we will be ready for hatching, which should start around June 1.
Jo, sent you an email. Wonder if Chris means that if they can track down people by ISP they will block them??? I trust that they have nothing to do with the still cam sionce we still access it directly from NCTC site....that's the one I keep open all the time, since Hughes cop gets me if I have live for too long.
Stupid lawnmower won't start....Bill checked it and says it's the sparkplugs...SIL's bro was at Lowe's getting the wood to repair soffits and he's getting plugs...hoping they are the right ones! Don't really have grass to mow, but plenty of weeds and they will be hay if I don't get it done soon!
This is getting pretty exciting, Hidey getting so close to taking off.
With respect to bandwidth and ISPs, I believe there are at least 3 or 4 people at my office---where I think the network's all on the same ISP---watching the nest. There may be more. We're sucking a fair amount of access out here to Michigan.
I checked in on the LW nest early this morning, it was such a peaceful site, sun not quite up yet and mom?dad? all tucked in with the babies sound asleep.
Always find this very amusing......the Prez will be spening the weekend at Camp David.....how do I know??? For locals who read the Hagerstown paper....they always post security closures at the Catoctin Mt. park in the paper.....which means that he will be in attendance!
I need to get off of here and start fixing our lunch for tomorrow. Gene has already started slow cooking his pork. He will make Genes Beans tonight and cook them slowly all night, so that they will be warm at lunch time. After I make my Mac & Cheese, have to wash and curl hair and then it will be time to get GeeGee for crab legs...so, if I don't get back on here tonight, I will see you in the morning at the BLUE PARKING LOT. Can't miss it...turn right at the 4-way stop sign and the lot is on the left. Guards will direct you. Have a good day:)
WOW!---Just saw MY FAVORITE PANDA-----the 'LITTLE PRINCE'---'TAI' on CH 7-ABC---lying back & munching on bamboo!----MY FAVORITE OF ALL MY FAVORITES!!---TAI!--I'll always remember the JOY we shared---watching him grow up!!---Still have his pic on my fridge---(talk to him some times too) ho!
Pic at the ZOO!---CROWD FUSSING!!--He may have to go back to CHINA!!-----I have forgotten who had planned on kidnapping him from the ZOO!---Wasn't it our friends from across the POND???
Well, wouldn't you just know it. One of the baby starlings is on the ground hopping around but can't fly yet. Now, I have to sit here and watch that crap. The flicker is at the hole in the tree. Reckon flicker threw starling out?
MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM!---Do you have plans for the holiday!!---You know what I dislike most about being retired!!!!!----We don't get the holidays off!! ho!
Hi, Norma...so what do you say to the little Panda on the fridge?
Your comment reminded me that there are a couple of newer postings at SD on the blog.
One of them is about a 4-year-old male, which was born at SD but was sent back to China over a year ago... Apparently, he was given an opportunity to mate with an older breeding female recently, and he made the most of it. Usually, these early chances are for familiarization and are not completed.

I had to double check the map, I did drive right by Ethan on Sunday on the way home from the Hills.

This bird is trying to kill me. Standing literally on the side of the nest! OMG, now she is at the launch pad. She skeered me bad just now.
Oh wow, my heart is racing. She just took me right back to Spunky's fledge!
I have an oriole in my holly tree. Never seen it this close before.
That was beautiful! Alvin just jumped back into the holly tree.
WOW!! you guys are talking too fast for me to get caught up this morning. Beautiful morning here, looks like Hidey is enjoying it.
Weather looks good tomorrow for the nest visit:)
Mockingbirds are on full volume here this morning, driving me nuts...... I can't hear the radio over them- Sharon, I can trade you two or three beautiful melodic mockingbirds for that oriole.
Gotta get back outside- must finish cutting flowers before the sun gets any hotter.
Have a great day everybody!!
Parent in nest with food! Now both there.
Cool!! full nest-
Parent alert!! Parent in Heidy's nest!
I have a hard time keeping up at times, as well.
I'm checking to see if my new fun name comes up! :)
BOTH
PARENTS!!
hahahaha
Good name Lori! :)
gonna have to work for the food this a.m.
love it Lori
Shuttle landing delayed until tomorrow...stormy weather possible during both windows in FL today.
we were at the nest the April after we lost all 3 eggs, and the orioles were like Christmas ornaments in the tree below the sycamore
We don't have mockingbirds here. Thelma does in Bedford though.
OK, Lori, I like that name! You are now dubbed with that name FOREVER:)
Sharon, you are so lucky to have an Oriole. They are one of my favorite birds. We seldom see one here at our house.
I see Bal. Orioles every once in awhile over at the lake. I saw a Bullock's Oriole this weekend in the Black Hills. They are really orange!
Thanks Costume and Sharon -
It was funny the other day when I had to sign up for the yahoo EM group and every name I put in was taken...So my head's been spinning since.
Didn't mean to disappear, a co-worker brought her 2 mo. old baby in. Must be baby day. Hidey is 10 weeks tomorrow.
MORNIN' AGAIN!!--Been on phone--now I'll never catch up!!---DEB!--I Did check the NEB KESTRELS earlier!---growing--growing!
Oh thanks too, Mits.
How lovely to live by a lake, Deb!!
Hedgie we'll get along great - I'm a news junkie, too.
Bullock's Oriole
Is that Lib or Belle in with Hidey now?
Deb, are the Bullocks more billiant in color than the Baltimore orioles?
Parent just left!
I have only seen one, Wanda, it seemed very bright to me, but sun was shining just right on it.
I am going to say that was Lib because of where the feeding took place.
Off to work, bbl.
WHOA!---MITS!---I'll never forget that time we went to the nest & this tree was completely covered with ORIOLES!!---a BEAUTIFUL sight to see!---We don't have that many here---
Good morning! Taking a peek in before I get out and mow today.
Lori...I guess you will be meeting everyone for the first time, right? Have fun! This is the greatest group.
I won't be there except in a bottle. LOL
Wishing you a good day DEB!!--TGIF!
Good morning my favorite Norma! How are you this fine and glorious day? Friday morning....but no bread and sausage. And would you believe Jack made raisen bread this week and I ate only 1/2 slice!
Down another pound this morning! Only one more pound to go!
Have a good day, Deb:)
Weigh to go Lolly!!
LOL Like that!
Lori
Lolly, I promise to take you picture out of the wine bottle, before you get drunk!;)
Be careful Lori. See ya in the morning!!
Glad you are here Gwen!
Megan, I do have a million and 43 lovely starlings I will trade you for the mockingbirds!
Oh, Wanda.....let me get a little tipsy. Want to be the life of the party! ROFLMBO
Bye Lori! Have fun!
This is what I am ordering for you, Lolly:
VEAL SILICANO: Tender cut of veal lightly breaded with italian bread crumbs, sauteed with prosciutto ham and fresh sage in extra virgin olive oil. Finished with a dash of lemon and a touch of butter and the chef's choice salad.
Sharon, I do not want any of those stupid starlings...I have too many of my own. I can sweeten the mockingbird deal by throwing in two carolina wrens:)
Merry Maids just left the neighbors house...hubby said if they came in our house they would run away screaming, the worst part was I couldn't disagree with him....ha ha- oh well- a little dirt never hurt anyone.
Jack carried him away so the cat won't get him.
Will all the buildings be locked at NCTC this weekend?
Sounds wonderfull Wanda! Let me know if I enjoy it! LOL Oh, and thank you!
OK, Lolly. When you start dancing on the table, I will take you out of the Wine bottle;)Of course, if your dance is entertaining, I may let you go for a while!
Love it!
Wanda, how many are going to be there?
I don't know about the buildings, Sharon.
MORNIN' AGAIN MEGAN!---Where did you learn to talk 'bird talk'?--I wonder where you learned all those descriptive words!! I love it---ho!
Lolly, we have a list of 19. A good group for a Nest Visit. During Open House, we usually have 30 or so. Lori is our newest Momster and look forward to meeting her:)
Time to leave my fine friends! Need to eat a bite and then go mow before it gets too hot.
Have a Fantastic Friday!
BBL
Hate it when a woodpecker gets wiped out! Once saw a cat get one of our downey woodpeckers and I chased him all over our property. When I finally caught up with him, it was too late. I wouldn't let the cat have him. Disposed of him myself!
The NORFOLK SITE IS UP!---Check those 'REBELS'---They are sitting in the nest--Aren't they AWESOME!!
The BLUE HERON site is so LOUD this am!---She is till on the NEST-- Several different birds -- all calling at the same time--
Did the group going to the nest tomorrow have to get special permission for that day and time or can you get on the grounds there any time?
LYNN2--You always have to get permission to get into NCTC!---They sponsor our blog!---So we just have to ask! Isn't it a wonderful site!!!
I emailed Chris at Outdoor TV last night about our Pop-Up cam and this is his replyl:
*********************************
Wanda:
We have temporarily taken down the pop up cam to see how it impacts bandwidth usage. The eagle cam has been very popular, but unfortunately, some users are leaving it up all day to run which adds quite a bit to the expense of the cam. While we are unable to identify people, we can see IP addresses that are using an extraordinary amount of bandwidth. So our concern is that they are popping up the cam and walking away from the computer with the cam still running.
We are looking at some other solutions to this issue and may be able to add back the pop-up shortly.
Chris
They could start putting time limits on the cam. Make you restart it every 15 or 30 minutes or something.
OK Norman, thanks! I figured so, but my husband wanted me to ask because since we can't go tomorrow he thought Maybe Sunday.
and by that I mean NORMA ☺
I am so glad that Lib and Belle built the second story of their home right under the camera!
Heidy was up-close and personal!!
I know, I just love when she is up close and personal!
LYNN2--NCTC is closed tomorrow & probably this holiday week end!-----You need to ask MEMA JO about it---She is the person that asked for the EAGLEMOMSTER visit tomorrow!
LYNN2---don't worry about spelling, etc----no one really notices---ho!
Good 'Sorta' Late Friday Morning to All!
So much to read before beginning! I need to say Hello before reading & take my chances!
Thanks Wanda for publishing Chris' response about the Pop Up!
I can feel the excitement on the blog!
Tomorrow will be great but sure will miss all of you not able to be here with us.
MORNIN' JO!---Please read LYNN2 note---in re: getting into NCTC!
I really hate that everybody can't be there! :(
SHARON.... how is Sissy this a.m.?
BWO UPDATE.....
Nest Update
05/22/09:
We plan to take the Osprey Cam to 30-second updates in the next day or two, so we will be ready for hatching, which should start around June 1.
XL is nursing in Atlanta
Capt Gene & 1st Mate Wanda
Lynn - Jenny S.
Margy
Suzanne - Paula
Sharon - Mattie - Thelma
Lori
Sandra & Tom
Iris - Dana
Megan - Jo
Decided not to put last names...
Got my email from Lynne2
Good to go!
Add Lori's friend Kate to the list, Wanda!! I emailed Jo for Security.
Jo, I sent you an email, thank you so much..you too Norma..and just let me know that you got it!
I just checked out the Momsters website, it's great, and I loved the video from last year! Who was the filmaker?
I never keep the live cam up, just check it a couple of times a day
YEAH! thanks again Jo...will do my very best to work it all out cause I hate to miss it!
watching the eaglets at LW..soo cute
I haven't gotten any emails from Suz in the last couple of days....anyone else? Wonder if she's taking time off...sure hope she's not sick!
Anyone know off the top of their head when the panda cubs are weaned???
around 18 months in captivity....I heard from Suz this a.m. she was at work
At least Tai was weaned at that age, and he did very well:)
Hidey is playing Cam Ham again!! No hiding now, LOL!
Always find this very amusing......the Prez will be spening the weekend at Camp David.....how do I know??? For locals who read the Hagerstown paper....they always post security closures at the Catoctin Mt. park in the paper.....which means that he will be in attendance!
I always hear the copters going over the house, and I know he is going there.
Sharon...how is Sissy?
She is doing better. She went to the lake yesterday.
Poor little (well, not so much) Hidey, nice close up but she's getting very hot!
Well, wouldn't you just know it. One of the baby starlings is on the ground hopping around but can't fly yet. Now, I have to sit here and watch that crap. The flicker is at the hole in the tree. Reckon flicker threw starling out?
There are also sparrows taking dirt baths!
I love our CAM HAM! lol
Awww, little starling! I know most people don't like them, but I think they are kinda neat. Did you know you can teach them to talk!
If I could teach a starling to talk I would teach it to say GOODBYE!!!
Well, I don't like them because they took over the flickers' nest but I certainly would never hurt one and don't want to see one hurt.
MEGAN---Love your 'bird talk'--ho!
That is right Megan! This starlet don't even have a tail, just a little gray thing hopping all over the yard.
Thanks for info, Mits.
Oh, Norma, sure hope they delay that move!
** GOOD MoRNING **

MEGAN---CAN you teach me 'BLUE JAY' talk?
Lun Lun and Xi Lan are rasslin on and off of the hammock.
If he gets a hold of her back, he really chews away. Looks terrible, but she seems to enjoy it.

Hey Jim, when are you going to travel east to meet us? :)
ZZ is also on cam, but she's sleeping away.
I noticed she doesn't always climb way up a tree to sleep lately, and she's sleeping on a rock structure at the base of a tree this A.M.

Jim
Jo, don't forget the mist-blowing fan to put in the nest tomorrow! :)
MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM!---Do you have plans for the holiday!!---You know what I dislike most about being retired!!!!!----We don't get the holidays off!! ho!
Look at Hidey's beak!
You should read the blogs yourself.
