Hello vatray
Good Morning Eagleland! Norma I got the 'woods' up last evening! Missed the turkeys this am.

Welcome Vatray, Morning all eagle friends. Prayers going up for all those in need, recovering, or sick. Megan, what a beautiful picture. My husband took the 3 grandkids we are keeping for a while out to see the eclipse. Little Dannah (4 years old) had to have a picture printed to take to bed with her. It was cool. Has anyone heard from Suzanne today? mauley

geez-looweez, Norma did you eat 2 rice crackers instead of one....I have Baltimore Berger cookies here, and brownies, and I'm desperately trying to stay away from them
Have you heard of Crazy Horse and Wounded Knee? Those are all here in SD. The Natives here were not treated well during those times and are still not doing well. If you visit the towns in western SD, poverty is really bad. Some of the tribes have opened Casino's which is helping their economy some, but not enough. It is a sad situation and there is still a lot of animosity there. Things are slowly starting to change, bringing Native studies to all schools in the state is a positive step. The schools on the reservations are changing how they teach and have started teaching Native languages again. The hope is that bringing pride in their heritage back will help reduce suicide, drugs and alcoholism. I don't want it to sound all bad, as you can see in the picture a lot is being done to bring back old traditions. Pow Wows are a big part of that, using Traditional Dances and music. I wish that there was a way to get past the bad parts of our history, not to forget it, but to forgive it.
I hope that is what you wanted to know and that it wasn't too long.
Dances with Wolves, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Thunderheart--all SD.
SORRY--KIDS---i am talking about my sweats hurt "BAD" around my waist!!--Don't tell me that isn't happening to some of you!!---do you all not eat when you are on the blog?--more food on my desk than in my fridge!!!----ho!---
NORMA-Put the food back in the kitchen and make yourself walk out there to get it. Excercise will burn the calories you are going to eat. LOL.
Hello everyone. Have to grab something to eat and run to the store. Need food in the house for the weekend in case I can't get out. Hubby and youngest are leaving for PA tonight. So it will be me and the oldest. Hope electric stays on or I am in big big trouble.
Been back and forth washing clothes. Keeping up on comments. Dave I thought it wasn't you over there. It says Connt. not Indiana??? You trying to confuse me??? lol
Well, this nest watching has got me confused this morning.
Was it the original female or male at the new nest this morning at Norfolk???
If there is still something of a conflict between Norfolk's female's, why isn't it being reported more thoroughly by the experts there??? The bloggers seem as confused as I am...
Was there an intruder at the Maine nest, and if there was, why is there no mention of it or any video on that site???
Why do they never talk about the Maine site on the Maine blog???
One thing is for sure... Both Hummingbird chicks have fledged... Two things: Belle is still hanging in there through rain and snow and sleet.
DEB---I didn't realize that was in SD---Have seen some of the movies & did read Wounded Knee, etc.---People love to make fun of WV--that's when I go off!!----I can relate to that---I was hoping you might have some SIOUX in your lineage---That is all so interesting----Did you go to the same school if they were in your area!! ---
Norma, I do have some, but it is so small that it doesn't amount to much anymore, something like 1/64th on my dad's paternal side. I wish we knew more about his mother's heritage, as I think she had a lot of Sioux traits in here features.
I was in West Virginia, way back in 1977, what I remember was beautiful. I was on my way back from Dc area and camped there one night, it has been so long I don't remember where.
This is SD for you. A buffalo escaped in Sioux Falls this morning and was running on the city streets. it was chased by an elementary school, that had to be locked down, since buffalo can be dangerous. The buffalo was eventually shot and killed in a cornfield on the edge of town. Sioux Falls is right around 175,000 people.
Hey Deb, I have seen cattle herded right through the town I grew up in. It was easier to herd them across the bridge than across the river. Never seen a buffalo run through town tho.
JILL---MAULEY said no BABY yet--which is good--isn't it---Grand-kids are ill as is daughter's husband & his mother----if my memory is correct----W/check the blog & see if I can find it---POOR ZACK had school!!!---Maysville 7 inches!!
NORMA I did see that post last night but I thought I saw her on here this morning. Maybe not. Zach was out watching the eclipse last night, you should have seen his outfit. I will send it to you later if I think about it. He is a mess.
That is a first for me, too, Jill. There is a big Bison Round-up every fall in Custer State Park. I would like to go sometime. They round up the bison, brand them and sell off the excess herd. Buffalo meat is pretty good and is supposed to be good for you. Unfortunately, it is expensive.
Friends of ours who own quite a bit a land bought a buffalo. Maybe 2. I don't know. He always wanted a buffalo so he went and got one. Go figure. It is way up on the mountain outside of town. I havent' seen it yet. But my oldest was up there visiting and saw it. Nobody told him that it was there and it was standing at the fence right beside the drive way.
Deb, I wish too there were more forgivness and less "festering" of old hatreds. We can't change what was (even if we don't endorse it) but we can move forward if we are determined to put the past behind us. Easy to say I guess if one was never discriminated against... Nevertheless, if God can forgive us, we humans should be able to as well. Man's inhumanity is to each other difficult to understand.
We have been to several PowWows in different States in the U.S. and Territories in Canada and have really enjoyed the enthusiasm and spirit we found at them.
There used to be thousands of buffalo here, but they were killed for sport and just left lying where they were shot. Now quite a few ranches in western SD raise them for meat. Here in eastern SD, there aren't as many.
I wish they had a zoomer in Maine, so we could see what is going on.
I was going to go to a PowWow this past summer, which would have been my first. My dad got sick with pneumonia and I had to go to CA. Luckily, my dad recovered against all the doctors opinions. I need to make a list of all the things I want to see and start checking them off.
IRIS---Thank You!---You have said it so beautifully!!--Seems we don't understand even when we try------But we must keep trying to understand each other---that would be a start---
DANA & JIM--On the blog comments at ME--One video 2/21--6:15 a.m. (min. might be wrong)---Just shows an EAGLE flying in--sitting---then leaving!!---Some other videos--don't know whats on them---weren't dated 2/21!!
DANA---Here is the mix up with 2 Daves----There is a blog there & Conn. Dave is on that----IND. DAVE--WENT ON THE BLOG TO COMMENT ON THE STATEMENT DAVE CONN. HAD MADE!!
Well the 2 Dave's are as confusing as all this eagle commotion. lol
Boy I sure like a simple life! Doesn't take much to keep me happy - I guess all I ask is ..... Don't Confuse Me With The Facts!
Now I do think the bad weather is going to hit us tonight and stick around all day Friday into Saturday. At least I am making Chicken Noodle Soup & getting some foods that I don't need to cook - just in case the ice takes down our electric...
CCB Researcher wrote: The male adult was at the new nest from about 8:30 to 9:30am this morning Feb 21. Have not seen the new (intruder) female yet today. She was at the new nest yesterday morning. Found this in the Mine forum about this mornigs visit, and yesterdays.
I am off to get my hair cut, then up to SF for errands and the Eagle Awareness Days presentation at the Outdoor Campus. There will be a live Raptor Program, so I will, hopefully get some good pictures. BBL.
Hi, eagle lovers. We got about 5 inches of snow up on this mountain yesterday. I left around 3:00 to get my hair cut and didn't get here til 11:00 this AM due to a dentist appointment. It's 20 degrees right now. Was 2 degrees at my house this AM. Tonight and tomorrow doesn't look good weatherwise. DEB - South Dakota is one of the states I'd love to visit sometime - in particular Badlands Nat'l Park. I have forgotten when we could possibly see our first eaglet. Could someone remind me?
Very good Danelle! I had a niece and a nephew born on my birthday - one on my 13th and one on my 18th. It is a very good day for an eaglet to be hatched!
Hi JILL! I swear, they should make t-shirts that say that. I stay away from Walmart at all costs.
I saw on yesterday's blog that you travel I-81. I heard there was a really bad accident on there. I can totally sympathize with the traffic frustration. I used to drive up to Hagerstown hospital (where I worked for 2 years) and I came across many an accident. And then when you get on 11, it's just as bad because everyone tries to go that way too! It's nuts! I remember it took me 2 hours one time to get to Inwood from Hagerstown. Insane! That's one of the many reasons why I now work at a hospital in Ranson, much closer to home and no highways!
Danelle- it took me an hour from exit 13 to the state line. I had read on the net that southbound was closed, I find out today that both lanes were closed. If I had known that I would have gone up 11 or just stayed home. I came back 11 most of the way and it wasn't too bad. Anybody traveling 81 during bad weather needs to remember that the bridge at the 23 mile marker is extremely dangerous. That is where most of the accidents happen during bad weather.
Walmart wasn't too bad but I imagine it will get progressively worse as people get off work tonight and realize they need bread milk and toilet paper. Who here couldn't get by with what they have in the house right now? I only got the things I really really needed, I havent' been to the grocery store in 3 weeks so we were a bit low.

Norma I got the 'woods' up last evening! Missed the turkeys this am.
NBG eagle just flew off - camera didn't follow.. well it tried to follow - now focused on nest.
MOrning, all. Awesome eclipse last night. Sorry you missed it Jim, it started around 6-7pm your time...
Love your moon shot Megan. Was really a clear night for viewing!
I think I prefer to watch our peaceful Beautiful Belle rather then getting dizzy watching zoomer cam in NBG.

Mits and Sharon - nice to see you on here. Glad you are both feeling better!
Thank you Paula, good to be back.
Good Morning Jo, Paula, Vatray, Iris, Dave and Watchers ( :
Yes over at Maine it is like Norfolk. Some say it is Dad on limb at Maine some say it is Mom. Their intruder there is a fully grown female.
Dave I couldn't find any. I thought you had taken some pictures of your eagles there. If so where do I see them at?
MORNIN' IRIS!!---MORNIN' & WELCOME VATRAY!!---Beautiful SNOWY picture postcard weather here ----Trees are glistening in the sunshine!
WELCOME vatray;)
DANA---Do you think the ME video fight was over food!!----We saw that a couple other times!---guess I am trying to find a reason other than taking over nest!!
Intruders have to stay out of Shepherdstown. I would hate to drive up there and break out my glock on some intruding eagle. :)
No Norma "no food has been involved in this happening at Maine".
'ATLANTA BEAUTY' MEI--is climbing all around on the 'FUN HAMMOCK"--See LUN LUN coming in!!----This is where they usually start wrestling with each other!!!---Not many more days to watch them playing together!!
NormaI don't think the Dave that is commenting at Maine is our Dave. Our Dave is from Indiana that Dave is from Conn.
NOW---Both are missing at the ATLANTA SITE!!
DANA---I am talking about comments made on the BLOG!!----& it was INDIANA DAVE commenting about the blog!!!!
KENT is up---NO EAGLES OR SQUIRREL!!
COOL SHARON!!---We have special CANES to take care of them!!---EAGLE CANES!!---ho!
I am headed out the door around 11:00 for your neck of the woods Paula..Ledos for lunch with past co-workers.
Sharon I would be right beside you headed for the nest tree if an intruder even flew over the top of the barn!!!
I knew you would join my posse, Mema Jo! :)

We may have to install a metal detector for you...
Good morning, everyone!!

Jim
DEB---I didn't realize that was in SD---Have seen some of the movies & did read Wounded Knee, etc.---People love to make fun of WV--that's when I go off!!----I can relate to that---I was hoping you might have some SIOUX in your lineage---That is all so interesting----Did you go to the same school if they were in your area!! ---
Eagle at NBG, dang, just flew off. It was sitting on the branch.
Yes, "Glock" is a famous German arms manufacturer, which makes some fine guns, as do several well known American firms.

Jim, you have to go to the right place on the Maine forum...the discussion is there
Maine Forum
The Maine blog, however has not been updated for quite some time

Hmmm, actually he does have a couple of current notes on there, like they were turning on the infrared, which was on last night...
Jim check your mail
This is SD for you. A buffalo escaped in Sioux Falls this morning and was running on the city streets. it was chased by an elementary school, that had to be locked down, since buffalo can be dangerous. The buffalo was eventually shot and killed in a cornfield on the edge of town. Sioux Falls is right around 175,000 people.
Did Donna (Mauley)say anything about the new baby? Maybe I missed it. My cousin was asking me if we had heard from her.
PAULA---That's what I was reading this a.m.---posted 2/20--- electric was fixed--last post!!--That is where I found DAVE'S COMMENT!!
I am going to eat and go to Walmart now. If you don't hear from me by late evening send out a search party. LOL.
JILL-----10:56 a.m. COMMENT!!----MAULEY!!!
Thanks Norma.
Egg roll our nest
Take a peek at Steffi's Catalina Report this week. Interesting new pairs and nests...
I looked up the strange sounding tree she mentions in Wikipedia, and it is also known as the Channel Islands Oak.
ZZ is climbing her trees, maybe sleeping by now....
I'll try to take a look at your link, Paula.

IRIS---Thank You!---You have said it so beautifully!!--Seems we don't understand even when we try------But we must keep trying to understand each other---that would be a start---
For sure Norma, for sure we HAVE to keep trying!
HAD MADE!!
I hope that is more clear---let me know!!!
Well the 2 Dave's are as confusing as all this eagle commotion. lol
Boy I sure like a simple life! Doesn't take much to keep me happy -
I guess all I ask is .....
Don't Confuse Me With The Facts!
Now I do think the bad weather is going to hit us tonight and stick around all day Friday into Saturday.
At least I am making Chicken Noodle Soup & getting some foods that I don't need to cook - just in case the ice takes down our electric...
I have already started praying for our eagles!!!!

Thanks Megan - I had also read that but not sure what to think that it indicates... Young female chickened out & not ready to raise a family...?
I feel a panda nap coming on.......

And gone at VA
Shoot, I missed it.
Could you tell who it was, Paula?
Egg roll our nest
Hi everyone! Just now getting on here. I see the hummingbirds have both fledged. :( I enjoyed watching those little guys. How's everyone doing?
Looked like Dad to me...at VA - it wasn't BBB (3b) (Big Beaked Bertha - the new female)
Howdy Danelle!!
Hi Paula! How are ya?
Carol, I marked roughly the 8th of March on my calendar - give or take a couple of days...I stand to be corrected though - might have gotten it wrong.
Thanks mema jo for the update on Sandy! That is music to my ears. :)
JILL-you still on here?
The first egg will hatch on March 6, my 46th birthday!
Hey SHARON-that's my b-day too! I'll be 27.
I just came back Danelle. Went to walmart and survived.
I agree Sharon! :)
Sounds like we may need one very large birthday cake on March 6th.
That is where most of the accidents happen during bad weather.
hahaha, thanks floragirl. Sounds good to me! Cake is my favorite dessert, well, besides cheesecake. I just absolutely love the icing on cakes! :)
did someone say, CAKE?????
Walmart wasn't too bad but I imagine it will get progressively worse as people get off work tonight and realize they need bread milk and toilet paper. Who here couldn't get by with what they have in the house right now? I only got the things I really really needed, I havent' been to the grocery store in 3 weeks so we were a bit low.
Hey Mits, your ears sure did perk up to cake! :)
I like the whipped icing myself.
My friend made a red velvet cake with lemon cream cheese icing. It was delicious.
Yummmm!!! That sounds delicious! Hahaha-Mits, you sure crack me up. Sounds like we should have a cake party! :)
Oh, Mits, Cake is my weakness, too. I love cake. donna
