GOOD FRIDAY LEAP DAY EVERYONE Wanda, hope you and Gene have a safe and wonderful trip:). As Suzanne would say, "keep your eyes to the skies", you never know what you might see going across this beautiful country of ours.
MORNIN' HELEN!!---I forgot today is LEAP year day!!---You are probably too young to remember 'SADIE HAWKINS DAY'---In the AL CAPP comics----This is the day a WOMAN can grab a husband!!---Such a 'quaint' idea!!!---ho!
Morning, Vicky, Megan, and Helen. Helen hope you're feeling good today! Norma, they mentioned Sadie Hawkins Day on the news last night. Had to laugh! Yup, I'm definately ready for Spring! Be outta here shortly, crowd is starting to arrive, noise level has gone up considerably!
SADIE HAWKINS DAY---I don't think so MEGAN----Of course--I am too young to remember!!---This was a BIG FUN TIME on every college campus!! & high schools too!!---You wore the short skirt & off the shoulder blouses!!----I think the BALLS were held in November!!---
VA NEST---MT---Has anyone seen the 'skinny squirrel' lately?---Remember they told us yesterday that the squirrels were still in the bottom of the nest!!!
Megan Sadie Hawkins Day was for the "unmarried". Norma do I remember that right??? The women would chase after the guy. Something was on tv later years. I use to watch and get a kick out of.
Thanks, Norma, have agreat day! I'm getting ready to go also, briefings start in a few. All have a great eagle/panda day. All have a great weekend! Hopefully, blog Monday. I'll try to get on later around lunch, but don't know if i'll be able to. See ya'll Monday. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Alright, I know what sadie hawkins day was.. just kiddin.. don't alert hubby, I'm sticking with the one I got, just being goofy, you know, If I don't laugh I'll cry...
Beautiful MEGAN!!---That's why you are so COOL!!---ENJOY talking with you!!---I feel the same way----DISCOVERED!!----LIFE is much more fun where you SMILE!!---STAY COOL!!
Megan we know you are sticking with the guy you got. I mean "you already have him trained". No one wants to have to train another lol Gal your the most of the mostest (not hostess). The guy you got knows "he is a lucky son of a gun" wink hee hee
BEAUTIFUL PINK FLAMINGOS are almost dancing this morning!!---The black & white DUCKS are taking over the pool!!-----SO FUNNY TO WATCH THEM SWIM SO FAST!!!!
Wow Megan I re-read my comment. That wasn't suppose to mean that your not a "wonderful hostess too". You are I am sure of that. Why because of who you are. ( :
You all know sometimes my spelling is not so hot. Well is I start spelling things like rczuz then you know the "word verification" has gotten me lol I really don't mind it....
Good Morning, everyone. It is 34 here today, supposed to get up to 42, I think we will beat that. Norma, there were about 8 divers this morning. None waved while I was watching.
Thanks Paula - going over to take a look-see now. They were sorta suspicious acting yesterday - I hope their tree holds up this year! I love that heart shaped nest but that tree is losing its roots!
MITS - that's a good excuse - I think I'll stick with it!
Norma That is an eagle's nest at Lake Washington on the WildWatch Cams that you see. I thought the same thing as you when I saw it!! Cam 3 at Kent should be the next one up & running - then we will be able to see down into the nest
DEB I don't know of any direct link to Washington nest.. I will look for a home page.. WildWatch has 2 different barn owls to watch. I prefer Ms Owl with her 6 eggs. Deb - are you saying that with BC when First Light cam times out - just do the F5 refresh & it should come back up?
I keep feeling that after I type my letters for the word verification that & click on Publish - that it's like waiting to see if you won a prize!! lol Hate these v's & w's side by side! Somebody's playing with my eyes! Just wait until I get my new expensive lens! lol
Jo, I don't have to do anything to BC after I open it. I think it is because on a Mac, I have to watch most of the live cams in Quicktime. I don't know how it works, I click and the computer does it. Paula had a link for WMP that should work for you.
Good morning everyone! I'm here to catch up for a few minutes, then I leave for a dentist appointment, and then I'm heading to Shepherdstown for the weekend. I'll be dining at the Rumsey Tavern tomorrow nigh, although it won't be as much fun without all of you! I'm sure I'll miss the first hatching at BWE, so take good notes. Hugs and prayers to everyone!!
I know that I celebrate when it is only 5 letters instead of 8! I didn't see any eggs either, Paula. On the Wildwatch page, it talks about them just getting back to the area. They are Great Blue Herons and when I googled the image, they have a lot of different looks.
You know, I don't mind doing the 'type the letters' thing to beat SPAM, if I only have to do it once. But sometimes, especially if I do a "preview", I have to do it several times per comment, and I think that's way beyond the necessary program!!
You are reading right, Jim, wow that is a lot of eggs for one little bird. I wondered if maybe there was more than one mom, but didn't you say they are very territorial?
You know, you all were talking (O)possums yesterday..
We have them out here too [according to Wikipedia, they are found coast to coast, and they were introduced to California in 1911, which is before my time].
They get big and ugly (darker colored) and vicious looking out here too.
But they are very cute when they are fairly young, and just add 'ugly' until nobody wants to look at them. And then they're dead by the age of two (in the wild)!
One of the women where I worked last used to have a pet possum, which she sometimes brought to work in one of those doggy tote bags. Of course, she kept it fairly clean and groomed, so it maintained a good appearance to the end. I think it lived to the age of 3-4 under her care.
Okay, I am going to tell an opossum tale! When Buphals was maybe a year old, he was laying in the yard and then I saw something laying about 2 feet from him. I went up to it and it was a small opossum. I thought surely he had killed it but it looked unharmed, just not moving. Then, like an epiphany, it hit me, it was playing possum, just like Daddy used to do with me and scare the wits out of me when I thought he was asleep. Playing possum worked for this little feller because Buphals never even saw him there.
Yeah, Sharon, Possums definitely go into a coma-like state wherein they look dead, and they smell just terrible ... carnivores, which normally would take an animal like that, will not think about eating them.
I've seen a few snakes on TV nature shows that do something similar.
It is a very effective defense against larger or faster animals.
Whoever wrote that article hasn't seen the possums in Martinsburg. They are huge. One reason you see so many dead in the road is because they play "possum" then get run over by cars.
I don't know if I've seen a "huge Possum", Jill, but I've heard of them before.
It probably depends on how much food they can find. They do get large around the coastal So Cal area though.
And they get used to eating your cat's food, and then they get vicious if you try to run them off.
My Brother-in-law had to buy an air pistol just for such a group of possessive Possums. Didn't kill them, but it made them think twice about standing there bearing their teeth at my relatives.
They had to carry the pistol whenever they went out on the back patio at night, where the cats were fed, for quite a while, but I don't think it is much of a problem now.
I was noting the other day that the Norfolk cam looks like it is transmitted in 3D, which brings it to life a lot more. Do you have any idea of how much extra price tag that adds??
Ours looks good though this season. Can't wait for the streaming picture with the Dolby surround sound now.
I think every modern computer comes with a 3D (capable) Video Board.
But not every source has the equipment to photograph and transmit in 3D.
Take a look at Norfolk and see if you can't tell everything is a lot more rounded and the picture has a lot more depth to it than most of what you look at daily.
Jim, we live near a school and with that comes a dumpster full of goodies for the possums. Which in turn makes for some very large possums. One was so fat he literally waddle from side to side as he walked. No running for that guy.
I clicked on the one someone put back there in blue. Although I have the page up. I've tried cam 1 nothing and cam 2 nothing???
http://wdfw.wa.gov/wildwatch/heroncam/index.html
Did want to say Paula also to Mits. The link Paula gave for BC I used in WMAP and it works great. I didn't want to use my wmp. I use it for other things. TY Paula BC stays up all day now. ( :
Just a quick pop in, just to let you all know I'm still alive.
Takes me ages to catch up on all the blog and then when I've finished I din't have much time to post before I have to leave again. I really hate this time difference thing !!!
http://www.marwell.org.uk/
The link above is to one of our zoos in the South of England called MARWELL and they have a new baby there an AMUR LEOPARD very rare,
I thought you all might like to look in and see this beautfiul new baby.

there is a big old heron in the nest at Wild Watch cams,,,can't wait to see the eagle at Lake Washington
Yup, just read back....awesome, more eaglets on the way :)
Anyone else having problems with Tesoro this morning?
I haven't been able to get Tesoro to open ..no pic on cam, screen.
Jo, are there direct links so you can open Lake Washington like the one you gave me for Kent? That Lake Washington nest is awesome!
no Tesoro here, just keeps saying connecting to the media
Oh boy I'm glad someone told me: there is an egg at BC
I think I just spelt oink lol
Eagle at BWO
Eagle on love branch at VA
Norma That is an eagle's nest at Lake Washington on the WildWatch Cams that you see. I thought the same thing as you when I saw it!! Cam 3 at Kent should be the next one up & running - then we will be able to see down into the nest
Mits, that is a big heron. That will be fun to watch, too.
I know Deb, I love herons
Mits, wasn't that a heron we saw down in the boone docks at Shepherdstown?
I take it the Heron is on eggs.
yes, it was, Sharon
sure does look like it, Paula
Anyone else notice how alert our eagle looks?
DEB I don't know of any direct link to Washington nest.. I will look for a home page..
WildWatch has 2 different barn owls to watch. I prefer Ms Owl with her 6 eggs.
Deb - are you saying that with BC when First Light cam times out - just do the F5 refresh & it should come back up?
I keep feeling that after I type my letters for the word verification that & click on Publish - that it's like waiting to see if you won a prize!! lol
Hate these v's & w's side by side!
Somebody's playing with my eyes! Just wait until I get my new expensive lens! lol
FWS is down again for me...was trying to refresh to check on eagle...
there are 2 herons there, 1 in nest and the other on the branch
that would be on cam 2
2 Herons now...
Jo, I just hit the "play" button again for BC
My cam is down, too.
Jo, I don't have to do anything to BC after I open it. I think it is because on a Mac, I have to watch most of the live cams in Quicktime. I don't know how it works, I click and the computer does it. Paula had a link for WMP that should work for you.
Ok, I figure it out for Wildwatch, just keep opening the link Jo gave the other day in a new page and you can watch them all.
OUr cam is back now
2 eggs visible at BW
Something is interesting our eagle
Really moving head around to follow something...
I tried Paula's link and it didn't work for me....check out #3 Heron cam, it looks like several nest and several heron sitting nearby
and now...not-these letters slow me down...and I have so many screens open, I got lost among them. umlcvzrz!!!!
maybe watching a tennis match:).
egg turning our nest
Ok my BC is on WMP.. I'm ok!
Yep my cam went down but it is now up/running.
Egg Roll Time
Mits - the WMP link for BC didn't work for you? Did you cut and pasted it into your WMP? I just opened it....
http://eagles.firstlightpower.com/
eagles/live/eagleslive_100.asx
Cut and paste, all on one line into "open url"
yeah did that, Paula, for some reason having problems with WMP and real player....?
but the f5 refresh works great:)
MITS check the link I sent you by email.
Eagle at the Lake Washington nest.
Those herons don't really look like our blue herons - do they?
I hope that tree isn't going to be in the way!
Both our nest

We'll be thinking about you Sunny!
Enjoy your weekend in Shepherdstown!

Hopefully, it is not glock time!

Looks OK our nest...
I didn't see any eggs in the heron nest...
Anyone feel like you are typing German or Swedish or Russian when you are putting in your word verification :)
I say we just ignore the blasted spammers and get rid of the WV:)
I know that I celebrate when it is only 5 letters instead of 8! I didn't see any eggs either, Paula. On the Wildwatch page, it talks about them just getting back to the area. They are Great Blue Herons and when I googled the image, they have a lot of different looks.
Remember that on the BWE page you have the Pop Up Cam..........
I need to get some food... brunch I guess... lol
BBL
now I get the 8 letters...
Both eagles in BC.
GOOD MORNING, EVERYBODY..
I see the whole gang is here today...even Suzanne.
Am I reading the Hummingbird cam right?? It looks like another pair of eggs has been laid...he's going to move the camera this weekend.
Boy, that Channel Island variety is going to take over the world at this rate!

Jim
You know, I don't mind doing the 'type the letters' thing to beat SPAM, if I only have to do it once. But sometimes, especially if I do a "preview", I have to do it several times per comment, and I think that's way beyond the necessary program!!
[:~)]
Jim
You are reading right, Jim, wow that is a lot of eggs for one little bird. I wondered if maybe there was more than one mom, but didn't you say they are very territorial?
Hi, Deb,
I didn't say the "territorial" thing, I don't think, but I also read it recently.
Also, I don't believe a female hummer would use another's used nest, and this one has two or three she keeps rebuilding and using.
She's a family-rearing machine!!
[:~)]
Jim
Hey Jim. Saw you email, haven't had time to look at it yet but thanks. I will get to it later this afternoon.
You know, you all were talking (O)possums yesterday..
We have them out here too [according to Wikipedia, they are found coast to coast, and they were introduced to California in 1911, which is before my time].

Jim
Thanks, Jim, for the hummer info. Maybe it was Joe who told us the territorial info.
It looks like it is snowing on the turkeys in PA.
CORRECTED COMMENT (I LEFT OUT A WORD)

If you were planning to light a candle for our friend's recovery, now is a good time.

Jim
Well, my pic has been frozen for over 30 minutes.
Yup frozen at 12.22.01
Here's a link to the Wikipedia article on Opossums. There's also another one under "Opossum" with different pics, etc.
Jim
“VA Possums”
Now that you say it, my cam is frozen on Liberty at 12:22 also. Pretty good view of him at least.
Jim
Eagle at Lake Washington, I got a picture this time.
Both there now.
Whoever wrote that article hasn't seen the possums in Martinsburg. They are huge. One reason you see so many dead in the road is because they play "possum" then get run over by cars.
I haven't seen an eagle on BWO in several days ... have you?
Maybe they are anticipating the Osprey's return, or maybe it's just too cold and windy out there.
Jim
Brad is working on the fix. The Service website has been up and down today...
Jim
Thanks for the update on the cam, Steven.
How's the 'moving picture' feed progressing??
I was noting the other day that the Norfolk cam looks like it is transmitted in 3D, which brings it to life a lot more. Do you have any idea of how much extra price tag that adds??
Ours looks good though this season. Can't wait for the streaming picture with the Dolby surround sound now.
Jim
Eagle at Lake Washington
OUr cam still frozen
Jim - just saw an eagle at BWO yesterday eating...and one today, just hanging out
Where did you get the 3d glasses at for Norfolk?
Thanks for the update Steve.
Hi, Paula, how's it going?
Jim
Eagle at Lake Wash gone, probably just popping in and out at this stage...although I would think egg laying time would be soon
Going great Jim. Lots of eagles to watch now! :)
Hahahaha, Paula. You didn't know about 3D effect?
I think every modern computer comes with a 3D (capable) Video Board.
But not every source has the equipment to photograph and transmit in 3D.
Take a look at Norfolk and see if you can't tell everything is a lot more rounded and the picture has a lot more depth to it than most of what you look at daily.
Jim [:~D]
And, Oh yeah, the computer version of 3D doesn't require the 3D glasses.
I remember vividly when the 3D came out from Hollywood, and how excited all us kids were about it.
I think I still have some of those flaming arrows implanted in the middle of my forehead!!
Jim
OUR CAM IS BACK UP!
Our cam is working!
Thank you, Brad and NCTC!
JIm - NOrfolk may appear to be 3D because it is focused on the tree, and there ias alot of background movement....JMO
I guess I've just been unlucky at BWO, Paula. Glad to hear they're still using that nest.
Jim
My WV cam is up too ... looks like Belle now.
Jim
Later, everybody...
Jim
P.S. Here's an article on 3D graphics in computing for those who doubt it exists.
Jim
3D computer graphics
Oh, I am not doubting 3D graphics, just a 3D webcam...
Interesting, Jim. I compared NBG to Maine and thought I could see a difference. BBL.
Jim, we live near a school and with that comes a dumpster full of goodies for the possums. Which in turn makes for some very large possums. One was so fat he literally waddle from side to side as he walked. No running for that guy.
Eagle at BWO
Fresh pine sprig at BWE
Looks like Lib is snoozing
The herons are spending a lot of time at the nest....
Whick Heron cam do you all have up?
Hmmm, what is that brown thing in the BWE nest, near the eagles tail...about 9 in the nest
PH cam zoomed in closer now
The one at Wild Watch, Dana...cam 2

Did want to say Paula also to Mits. The link Paula gave for BC I used in WMAP and it works great. I didn't want to use my wmp. I use it for other things. TY Paula BC stays up all day now. ( :
Sometimes looks brown, sometimes it looks red...was thinking it was something different...it's red now...
Now you know, in WV, we can legally pick something up off the road if we kill it, take it home and cook it up!
This is the link I have, Dana

Which Dad at BC would bring Mom in some fluff. She could use it to pull around herself. Keep her and egg warm.
With this WV you couldn't do a "fast" eagle alert :(
