Monday #2
Update: warm day today. It's good to see the eagles "relaxing" a bit more after the weather the past couple of weeks. I know I've said this before, but we are getting very close to activating the live feed. There have been lots of technical challenges because of the addition of audio. Special thanks to the Eaglet Momsters and the Friends of the NCTC for their support. When things are ready you folks will be the first to know.

thanks for the update, Steven
who are the Friends of the NCTC, Steven???
Whoo Hoo
Thanks for the info and the new thread, Steve.
And thanks for the heads up, Mits.
I love the eagle crossing sign, Paula:)
That's who I send the $$$ to Mits. They are a "refuge support group", like Friends of Blackwater....the website is here...
Friends of NCTC
Friends of NCTC actively supports the mission of the training center, and provides opportunities for members of the local community to enjoy and participate in activities at this extraordinary world-class facility.
Cheryl, I have lived in Bethesda, the last 24 years, hubby works in DC, but NOT for the government...born and raised in Baltimore
Well, that is cool, Paula:):):)
good thing NCTC has friends:)
Hi ya'll! I made it over!
Thanks Steven for the update.
Mits, I think NCTC Friends are growing more and more every day. What do you think?
Yuppers!
Thanks, Steven, for the update and Mits, for letting us know about the new thread.
Wow another new person. Welcome, Cheryl. This is great. So much better than the stupid spammers we had this weekend.
I think so too, Sharon. I can't believe I have never read about them, Paula, thanks for their site, interesting.
Thanks Mits. You can buy that sign at hmmmm....that place in Tennesee, with the 2 eagles....
Paula, I love the pic at the top of their page, how it shows how close the complex actually is to the river
Well that was no fun. I made a comment. This one:K10 just brought a fish in for his lady K26 at SC/PH...next thing I know me and this comment are on a page 201 by ourselves. I waited no one commented.
So I when back to comment 200 and found out there was a "new thread".
Ok I didn't like that trick.....
Just want to know was you all holding the door open for me??? lol
American Eagle Foundation....
http://www.eagles.org/
Thanks for the welcome Jill. Small world Mits, small world indeed.
I've got to go for today. Thanks for all the great info and web links. I'll chat again tomorrow afternoon. Have a great evening all.
Eagle in NBG nest.
Of Course we were Dana! But I didn't think about announcing it on the second half of that thread...
Hey Dana you have to stay alert around here. Things move really fast. LOL
Cheryl, pretty soon you will be learning about "poop shoot", fledging, launch pad, oh my God what are they feeding them now?, stuff like that! :)
That's ok Paula who knew my comment would take me over there. lol I didn't count or look to see we were at 200 and mine was 201. Which mean't ooops I'd be on a different page lol That's ok you all left "animal tracks for me to follow" thank you all lol
Oh yes and I followed the "eagle droppings" too and found you all. lol
NBG gone, eagle in Maine.
well, time for me to head home and make sure my cable internet gets installed properly. Talk to ya'll later!
Love,
Danelle
WoW a new thread in the middle of the day!!! Thanks Steven! I am having some computer/HP problems so have not really been paying much attention today, sorry.
But welcome to our three newcomers.!!!We are so glad you found us!!! It is such fun to learn about nature in general and Eagles in particular!!!
see ya, Danelle.
eagle still sitting in MAINE NEST and calling out
Dang it all, Dana! Why did you shut the door on me.. I have been so lost today! lol
Hanky panky in Maine.
Now she is laying in the nest.
Deb, is she smoking a cigarette? :)
Jo, one of the Kent eagles was in the nest this morning. I posted pictures and someone had posted pictures of a visit yesterday by both eagles.
Could be, Sharon! The screen turned to black and white. Oops, there they go.
Lisa, has a pic of the 1st fish Dad has brought into the BLACKWATER nest this season
Nest Update
02/25/08:
Our father eagle brought in a good-sized fish for the mother eagle today.
This is the first fish he's brought to the nest this season.
He usually brought 'birds' Right?
I mean he isn't starving our Lady Blackwater is he?
Mits, when do you think you will be able to return as our Preaching Meteorologist?
Our dad has been a little lite on the food this year. It's made us wonder if it's a different male.
Normally our male is overflowing with food (especially fish), but this year he's made mom go get her own a lot of the time. When he does bring food, it's usually leftover birds.
I asked our ranger if there was any kind of fish shortage because of our drought. But he said no, the fish surveys have been fine.
Hopefully dad will pick it up when the chicks arrive.
thanks, Lisa Dad needs to pick up the pace.
Sharon probably when I can sit at the computer longer than 15 mins....
AMEN///
You got half of it already, Mits! :)
Do I remember right that the biologists have to take the eggs from the nests on the Islands and change them for other eggs?
Jo I put the stopper at the bottom of the door. It should have been open. Sorry next time I stand there and hold it for you LADY ( :
Where did OUR NEST go???
did anyone else lose their cam picture??
both eagles were at BWE, now 1, don't know if it was another food drop?
Dana, I closed mine and now can't reopen it.
yep mine is gone.
It's back!
now it is back
Just finished dinner.... Saw Dana's queston.. I had to refresh our cam but thank goodness it did come up.
Is your's ok now Dana.
10 is turning the egg at PH.
All done, and settled back down.
I lost the nest again.
I lost it again also.
Back, I hope this doesn't keep happening.
I didn't like that!! :(
It wouldn't even let me refresh or except the http....but I'm not a "giver upper"..I finally got it through googling NCTC eagles.
Ok who shut the door on me??? lol
Nope I'm gone again "NO NEST" eeeekkkkk
Someone put the tiny url in here in blue so I can get to the nest PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE
Got the cam back up-have no idea how long it will stay.. I see Spidey down in the lower right corner.. We could blame it on him... Not!
working fine here- eagle cam
I haven't noticed my cam going down. Going to pay closer attention I guess. It is up now.
Dana Did Megan's link work for you?
Nope Jo it did not...hummmm
I've done everything I can think of. I can't get our nest back up. Very unusual for that to happen.
I'll bb going to close everything (cams) down and do a restart. Here's hoping I'll see you all in a bit. ( :
Well, I'm with the rest of you that have lost the cam...I've been trying to get it back for well over an hour now. One time for just a little while it came back and then POOF it was gone again.
HELP What is going on? I'm having Belle & Lib withdrawal!
I have a picture, but am just thinking it isn't refreshing. I noticed the clock hasn't moved.
Now I lost my picture again. It would have to happen when no one is working. At least I am assuming no one is working.
Back and three eggs showing. I snapped a picture in case it doesn't last.
Time to eat. BBL.
I'm not touching my cam
It is ticking away correctly
I just saw movement of our eagle's head.. I do mean turning movement.
So I'll just cross my fingers &
NOT hit refresh.
They take the eggs away from the eagles replace them with fake eggs then after the chicks hatch they put them back in the nest. A couple of weeks I think.
haven't a clue what is wrong with the cam:(:(:(
My cam seems to still be working fine.
cam always did like you, Sharon
Well I'm back here but no cam of our nest will work.grrrrrrrrr
Well, Mits you are not alone. I cannot get to any fws.gov page now, much less the cam.
The whole fws can't be down can it?
I tried to open the cam but got nothing. Suppose it has something to do with the live feed? Maybe they are working on it. Course I tried a couple of other sites and got nothing too. (Not birds)
No Iris it is not I have BWE up
got cam back up, but some of the writing on left side is missing
I know if I refresh it will dissapear again.....this is weird
Just stopped in to see what's happening and see some of you can't get our nest? I just had a look see and it seems OK.
I can get the main page of FWS up but can't open the rest of them.
I have had my cam up for days so maybe that makes a difference. Wouldn't leave out of it now for nothing, except, of course, if the computer shuts down or something.
is there an egg in CO. nest???
I think FWS may be working on their site.
see now I have to try and refresh as it is 10 mins behind the time
Cam time 7:23pm
Belle just tucked head under
wing That's her right wing
Mine went black and that was it gone, and it won't come back up.
bbiaw
Mits, Iris and I agree that the cam time is NOT our computer time
I should about 7-8 mins slower time on our cam.
The cam time has been off by 6-7 minutes for quite awhile now. More than that is a problem. Has to do with the time they have set at NCTC.
yeah, I know mine is always, 6 mins, behind, but my time was on 7:18p.m. and real time was 7:26p.m., you could just tell it had stopped for me
MITS 8 minutes off is what I am showing......
I was over in the Catalina Islands
Belle has changed position - may have been an egg roll.....Head/body position towards 12 noon...
back
My cam time has never been the same as my computer clock. Jo yours sounds way off though.
Spidey himself is on the cam - not just his web........ lol
Well, I have it back up and it is still 6 minutes off, close to 7 minutes actually. But when I tried to comment here - this page would not open?? Something strange it going on.
also, we are at 102 posts and it did not switch to a new page?
My cam just came back and now I have to go. Check in later.
Page switch at 200 Iris.
The only cam I am having a problem out of is ours. All the others I usually open. Open ok.
Dana I may have reset my computer clock incorrectly... But the difference has remained the same between cam & pc.. I may not match anyone else's pc time...
Right now I show 7:55
Let's see what this comment shows
could be the same...
So my pc & blog are 1 minute off of each other with the blog being 1 min behind my pc.......
Cam is now 7:48:08
Ok ladies I'm getting off computer. I've done something to my back. That is affecting my left leg. Can't hardly walk or lift the left leg. I'm going to lie down awhile. Take care hope to see our nest back by tomorrow.
Take Care Dana.
see ya, Dana..
Going to take a break...
I'll bbl.........
I can't get our cam open either...
They will take eggs from the Two Harbors and West End nests this year...they will take them about 7-10 days after the 2nd egg is laid
TH has one egg, WE has none
Good night Everyone:)!
Good night Mits, sleep well.
Our cam shows our eagle with head
tucked under the wing. This is different then before when head was up & pointed at 12 noon.
Hi Paula.... I have not touched the cam on my pc to refresh.. Just letting it go on its on.
Lots of new visitors today Good to have them joining us.
I am back and have a picture. Time seems to be ok. I won't touch it. Cameraman is doing some looking at NBG, now back on the nest. Thanks for the info on the nests on the Islands. Will they take the eggs from PH, also?
Deb, I think that PH (Santa Cruz) was a natural hatching in the nest last year. ALSO I think, if my memory serves me right, that there were 2 eggs at PH last year. One got broken in the nest.
thanks, Jo. Darn, there goes my picture again.
That was quick, I have a picture back.
Deb - only from TH and WE this year. Twin Rocks is going to keep theirs this year, for the first time.
Paula, was I right in telling Deb that SC/PH had 2 eggs last year & that one got broken...
Thanks for the information. I tried reading back through the IWS updates, but hadn't made it to the info I was looking for yet. I am signing off for the night. Our eagle just woke up.
Talk with you all tomorrow.
Jo you were right, I remember the broken egg in the PH nest last year. I've been trying to get on here for over an hour and it finally let me post.
Better say, good night and Prayers for all....
Yepper! Eagle just woke up & all
of us night owls are headed off to bed.
Good Night Everyone
Hopefully I'll make it here in am hrs
Prayers for all being said
Good Morning Early Birders!
Great, I come home and everybody leaves. JIM where are you? LOL
YAY, the cam is back up for me.
Eagle snoozing...gonna join her....(well not literally!)
Good night, all!
I couldn't open the WV cam site from beakspeak.com tonight... or any other way I am aware of. What's the story??
I did get to the blog with a link I set up last year.
Anyone else having troubles?
[:~)]
Jim
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
SLEEP TIGHT
PRAYERS FOR ALL
JIM, OUR CAM HAS BEEN WORKING OFF AND ON. WE THINK THEY ARE WORKING ON IT OR IN THE PROCESS OF.
Yes, Mema Jo, you are right. 2 years ago PH had one chick, a female it turns out. But last year they laid 2 eggs, managed to hatch 1 chick, Limuw.
The second one was broken at night during a wind storm. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but I figure a gust of wind caught the mother when she was standing and turning in the nest... caught her on one leg and pushed her far enough that she had to put her other foot down on the eggs.
[:~)]
Jim
Thanks, Wanda. My browser keeps telling me it "can't find the server."
Even when I managed to get to the blog page, I couldn't open the cam from the list of contacts on the right side.
Just tried again, same story.
Did anything dramatic happen here today??
[:~)]
Jim
We had three new people join the blog. Legit eagle lovers. Karen from CA. Cheryl from Frederick Maryland and Don from Sharpsburg MD. I believe I got that right. Other than that, not much excitement. At one point somebody thougth NBG laid an egg, turned out to be a false alarm but they were hiding in the leaves again today. LOL.
Hey, I finally got the cam open!! They must have stopped dickering with it because it opened very quickly and normally.
Belle looks very secure, has her head tucked and is pointing toward 10 o'clock.
[:~)]
Jim
That is the way the camera has been all night. Some can't open it for awhile then boom opens right up, some never had a problem, others never got it open.
Hi, Jill...
I checked the Norfolk site before I came over here, and they have some pretty good pics from the last day or so.
It's beginning to look as though they got rid of the intruder for good somehow.
Unless another one comes along, I think things should proceed more smoothly now.
It's a good thing they took the eggs. That marked a stopping point for all the birds, and as it turned out, the original pair started up again. Probably shortened the process quite a bit.
[:~)]
Jim
Hopefully we will see a couple more eggs at NBG in the next week. Hopefully the intruder has found a single fellow to mate with.
Guess I will try to get some sleep before they start calling me to work. Being Tuesday I might get to sleep all night. Knock on wood.
A single fellow with his own nesting territory.
[:~)]
Jim
Have a good rest, sleep well.
Talk to you tomorrow.
[:~)]
Jim
I think my sleep has been a lot like yours lately. Can't get to sleep or stay asleep.
Yes a single male with his own territory far far from the camera. We don't ever want to see her again. LOL
GOOD NIGHT, EVERYONE. SLEEP DEEPLY AND WELL, REST FULLY.....
GOOD MORNING SUZANNE AND THE EARLY CREW OF BIRDERS.....
JIM
Yes, I'm trying to break that cycle of getting to sleep late, waking up late, but I haven't been very successful yet.
Maybe tonight...
Well when you figure it out let me know. Now I am off to work. YIPPEE.
Hey Suzanne, don't get to see you much anymore, usually sleeping when you are around.
I've been to sleep, up again, and I'm finally thinking of doing it again.
Checked in to our cam before shutting it down....
Belle is facing 12 o'clock and is tenting with wings spread wide. Rain is sparkling on her shoulders.
Guess she heard the forecast :~D .
Jim
Good morning, world. Good morning, Jim. Sorry I'm late, was talking to a co-worker for a few minutes. Seems the early birds want to talk today.
Not too bad out, 35° in PA, 38° here, but rain started around 3:00, right before Point of Rocks. Not too heavy, but you'll need an umbrella. But if that's as bad as it gets, consider ourselves lucky!
Opened our cam, sure can see Spidey's web blowing back and forth in the breeze! He's got a web partially over the cam. Already! Sure hope he gets bored and moves on, cause if he keeps this up, he'll totally block the pic when the infrared is on.
Saw Steve's update note. Hopefully soon. He's dangling that carrot....
Jim, I hope you can get some sleep. Raining here, good sleeping weather. RU getting any of that rain in CA? If so, hope not too much!
Ok, all have a great eagle/panda day.
Eyes to the sky, se the raptors fly!
Well about the time I dropped off to sleep they called me back in. So I haven't had any sleep yet.
It is raining a little bit here. Just enough to make you have to use your wipers.
Opened BWE, and see Lord BW FINALLY brought a fish to the Mrs in the nest!!!! Nice fish, but it sure took him long enough to remember he needs to feed mom, the lazy butt. Today is day 31 for egg #1, so hatching will be soon! Anywhere from 32-36 days! Can't wait, our first local baby!!!! How exciting.
Morning, Jill. Started raining shortly before 3. Our eagle just woke up.
oh my goodness, Tai is awake. Layiing on his back eating bamboo. No surprise there, but at this hour? Poor baby gonna need a panda nap later! He's so cute!
Wow, we have IR on the Maine nest! That's cool. What an eerie pic that makes! But it will be so cool watching the eagles!!
Wow, have you guys checked out the new "counter" MAPSTATS Steve has on the blog? Under the ClustrMaps. Very interesting info! Detailed info on cities that are watching the cam, and keep looking around, you'll find out who is watching the blog AND eagletmomsters! How cool is that. Steve, love it, very interesting. But as usual, be careful what you say...the world is watching. This will show you where in the world they ARE watching. Check it out.
Good Morning suzanne; The weather
here is not as cold but it going
to change later today with rain
changing to snow and some strong
winds.I went and watched the eagles
yesterday after work and got there
in time to watch them change places
on the nest.I took some photos of
them both on the nest and saw the
female fly off and land in a tree
about 40 yards away and flew off
to the east toward the watershed
to hunt.With seeing them change
and having them stay on the nest
for over a week and a half now i
am sure that they are sitting on
eggs,and that is soooo cooool
Indiana Nesting Eagles----Dave
Morning, Suzanne. Saw the map stats you spoke of..interesting in a spooky way. Really gives details about who is watching. Eagle is sitting in NBG nest when I pulled up camera just now.
Hey COOL!!! Good morning, Dave. Glad you pretty much confirmed that there are eggs in the nest! Bet you can't wait until they hatch and the little ones get big enough to watch from your view point! Wow, that will be cool. Oh, you'll have to take lots of pics, especially when they start branching and fledging.
There is an eagle in NBG, but I swear it looks like the male. Has a very even neckline, and the female's is jagged. Think we have another egg yet? Think it's a tad too early. Our eagle has turned around, but missed the egg roll.
Our eagle waking up and looking around, and the other eagle at NBG just this sec flew in! Now to see who is who. They're both looking down in the egg cup. Maybe that was the female and she DID lay an egg. They're still both looking, wish I could see down there.
Can't tell from this point on their size who is who. Both still there looking and maybe moving grasses in egg cup? They're doing something down there.
OH, egg roll for ours!
There ours went back on those beautiful eggs.
Both eagles at NBG still. Just standing there looking at each other and looking around. Oh, they just zoomed in. Both necklines look crooked, so no clue who is who. Think that's the female in front, the one that just flew in, but wouldn't swear to it.
NBG, one eagle flew to one branch, other eagle flew to other branch, and just now flew off. One that is on the branch is the one that just flew in a sec ago.
Other eagle back and is gonne do some stick rearranging.
Well, he got the stick where he wanted it (or she), and now looks like s/he's tenting. Oh no, just resting, back to work. Oh that was cute, head in the nest and butt wiggling in the air! But now sitting on the egg cup. Ooops, one on branch just flew off, and one in nest now standing watching where s/he went.
NBG zoomers may be thinking that was the female, they zoomed in on her, but she had no black. Since then, she flew off, and they've zoomed out on the nest.
Ours is awake and looking around.
Searching, and they found one in a tree. Just perching. Both eagles gone at the moment, but in the area. Must not have an egg yet.
They're just watching the eagle perched in a tree. He's not far from the nest. OH< never mind, just flew off. they're zooming out now trying to find him, he did not go back to the nest.
GOOD MORNING SUZ....
I am looking at NBG also, and the female has dark streaks on her head. I wonder if it is the Hussy?
One just arrived back at the nest, NBG. Didn't see them bring in a stick, but they're rearranging again.
Looks like Belle just arrived!
Lib left, belle gonna take over. Looking at eggs. Turning them with curled talons, now back on them. NBG eagle is very industrious, still working.
Morning, Wanda. Neither one of them had the dark streaks. The dark streaks are the younger female, she's not quite 5 yet. Had dark in her head and on her tail. Both NBG eagles this morning were totally white.
Did you see our switch?
Looks like the original pair in the nest at NBG to me. The younger female had a lot of black feathers showing and even a spot by her eye. I haven't seen that this morning.
Hey, good morning, Megan. Like your eclipse pic! Sorry I missed it, slept through everything, was too sick to get up.
I think this is the original pair also, no black on either of them today.
Wow, did you guys see that wing go by the cam?
I have never seen the Hussy, so I feel relieved that you two ladies say it is not her.
I was just thinking about Robert in Chincoteague and the egg that was laid in Jan. It had been a while since he told us about it and thought it must be near time for hatching. Checked back over my journal and it was Jan. 25. I was hoping they would get a cam and we could watch. Don't know why he mentioned it to us if he isn't going to keep us updated.
WOW! I sound grouchy this morning...maybe I need more sleep.
Wow, what a bank coming in that was!!!! More stick rearranging, this is getting serious! Look at him/her go!
COME ON OVER EAGLE BUDDIES!!!!---NEW THREAD--------
LOL, you shoulda heard me earlier, Wanda!!! Well, no, come to think of it, glad you didn't. Maybe it's the air! I was grouchy too.
Wow, off to get another stick again. We are definately getting serious about making this a new nest for this clutch!!
Uh oh, look, one on the branch. What do you bet that's mom bringing in all those branches, and here sits pop hiding in the evergreen tree...... heheheh, too funny.
Maybe I will get to see an egg hatch at BW before I leave. I will miss our babies all together. They will be half grown by the time I get back!
