New thread.
Update: just got back from running the Shenandoah staircase whitewater kayak run in Harpers Ferry.
Didn't see any eagles this time, but we saw the biggest granddaddy osprey I have ever seen. He was fishing right over our heads, and must have had more than a six foot wingspan!

Good sunny Sunday morning to all in Eagle-Osprey-stork-owl-etc. land!
okay, just made a quick trip around the world. NCTC nest empty. BW nest empty. Red girl still not fledged in Hbg. A missing teen falcon in Indy (missing since 6/7) returned home today, safe and sound. Storks up and about, surrounded by a lot of other noisy little birds. That's all for now. HOpe you all have a wonderful day! I'm off for some kayaking, and will watch the sky for raptors!
GOOD MORNIN' EAGLE BUDDIES!!!---THANKS for the new thread STEVEN!------HAPPY DAD'S DAY!!--ENJOY!!----CONGRATS SUNNY---YOU ARE NO. 1 TODAY---Thanks for the update!!--ENJOY KAYAKING TODAY!!!---SOUNDS LIKE A PERFECT SUNDAY!!!
LATER!!---Errands---
Good morning everyone. Getting hot and humid here in Eagle Land. Owl box in Washington is empty. There's a new story about the fledgling in New York. They named it Ziggy because it was found next to the Ziegfeld Theater.
Feeding in Finland. I see two babies
Good Morning! Happy Fathers' Day to you Steve.. May our feathered father, Liberty, enjoy his day & catch as many fish as he can eat
Hello Sandra and Norma. Looks like I missed seeing Sunny - hope she has a great kayaking day filled with some rapids!
Going to check out the cams - Sandra did you see the 2 chicks plus an egg in Finland?
Good news for the Loch Garten Ospreys.
At 10.30pm last night our hardy volunteers reported that EJ was restless, shuffling in the nest cup and repeatedly looking down towards her belly. Was she feeling the second egg in this miraculous clutch about to hatch beneath her? Quarter of an hour later she stood up to reveal a newly hatched chick. Late night phone calls resulted in joyous elation and the question as to whether our hearts could take any more emotion!
At 6.30am this morning Henry arrived back onto the nest with a Trout which EJ promptly tore into small pieces for the chick's first feed. Fingers crossed for the next few days!

Happy Father's Day to our own Liberty and all Dads!
Jo, I didn't see the egg, but I don't know its location in the nest. I just saw the two babies eating voraciously. Going to get dressed to go to market.
Sandra, say hello to Megan
Thanks Paula for the update on EJ and Henry. Yesterday's news was not that good.
Really a sunny day out there!
Check this out!

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there. If anybody is around Mtbg today there is the Classic Car Cruise In downtown. Some of the fathers might enjoy that. 1-5
Off to work in the yard....have a great afternoon!
GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY FATHERS DAY FROM SO CAL...
Good clip of the surgical removal of the bubble wrap, Paula.
Hooked up to the video for the NY Kestrel nestbox this morning...three chicks and perhaps some more eggs there.
Have CT and Loch Garten tabs running, BUT I'm having troubles connecting to the Finnish Osprey site...guess I'll backtrack to Lisa's link.
I haven't been able to connect with the Santa Cruz cam for 2 days...anyone know the prob there?
WE and TH chicks are growing and exercising. Won't be long before they are airborn.
There's still one eyass sleeping and hanging out behind the post at PA...assume it hasn't fledged yet.
Have an excellent day.
Jim

The NY Kestrel is feeding chicks now...I think I see one more egg to be hatched.

Jim, that is correct for the Finnish osprey cam....
Santa Cruz has been down since Friday afternoon, hopefully they will have it back up tomorrow...think it is a mainland problem...

Strangely, and unusually, the Finnish link does work in my AOL browser, while it will not open in a million years in Explorer!
The map link does work in Explorer though.
It's probably something to do with the security settings on Explorer. I had to set them to default a while back to cure another problem, and they have been working great for all links until this.
Paula, would you know which setting to tweak? I think it might be something about 'enabling some kind of scripting'.

Jim - Mail on the way!
I just came back to the blog, and here are some new comments from Steve that were on the front page:
Update: just got back from running the Shenandoah staircase whitewater kayak run in Harpers Ferry.
Didn't see any eagles this time, but we saw the biggest granddaddy osprey I have ever seen. He was fishing right over our heads, and must have had more than a six foot wingspan!
The jeveniles are in the nest at VA now....
Jim
Does anyone know about the Red-tail eyasses in Queens?
The blog doesn't seem up to date, but I have not heard they have fledged...not visible now though.
I still see one Peregrine eyass at PA... perched on the far corner calling loudly to be fed.
Jim
Steve That had to be one awesome sight! I feel sure you won't forget those wings above you! Sunny was kayaking today also but I don't know exactly where. Going to be funny if she comes back & reports seeing the same osprey.
I have been checking our nest for an evening visit - but none yet.
EAGLE ALERT
OUR NEST
EAGLE ALERT---OUR NEST!
GREAT MINDS JO!--ho!
Eagle Alert!
good evening Jo and Normabyrd. I just came on to see the eagle in the nest. I see you already beat me to it. :)
MT nest - It was a good visit At first I thought it was Liberty but then decided it must be Belle.
Anyhoo--- It was one of our EAGLES!!!
Eagle fix for the day!
Hi There Norma and Candy! I didn't know you were with me! So glad you both are here.
A stay of about 10 minutes isn't too bad. Have they been seen another time today?
After being on all day yesterday, I have kind of played it cool today. I guess no one has seen a third chick in Finland yet either.
Candy
JIM---I haven't seen the NYC RED-TAIL HAWKS' CHICKS for over a week-----Check them most every day!!!-----Did you get SUZANNE'S pics of the FINLAND OSPREYS chicks & EGG I forwarded------ I didn't see the EGG today!!
WOW STEVEN!---Sounds like you had a GREAT FATHER'S DAY on the river!!!!
I went to go into our Eagle site this morning just after 5am to see if we would have an early visit, and I saw the light on in the computer/bedroom. It was my husband up and on line. Since it was Father's Day, I decided to be kind and let him have it. Our guest will be here again tonight so won't be able to get on in the early am until he stays over at the fire station in Nags Head for training.
HI CANDY---I see there were "3" GREAT MINDS!---ho!---I watched the FINLAND OSPREY nest a bit today---Saw 2 chicks---but didn't see the EGG---
One of the pretty adults is in the BW nest - not sure if it is the Lady or the Lord...
AWESOME!!---EAGLE in nest!---Twice today!!!!----COOL!!
I saw the 2 chicks in the Finland nest today - for once the adult was in back of them - they were right up front. Did not see an egg & I'll be truthful that the lighting was so dim that there could have been 3 chicks.
I don't know where to go to get any news that I can read about it.
Did you see the news article and Paula's video about the CT chick? Run through this blog - the links are here in the comments.
BW eaglet has come in - must be eating whatever adult left.. I didn't see the adult leave.
PA FALCON preparing a FOOD (bird) for the eyass---on the ledge watching!!!
Normabyrd, I watched that dang nest all day yesterday trying to get a look. When I finally got the parent off the nest, it was shadowy and hard to see. They don't cooperate very much by getting up often. :)
Going to check out the pics I took of our eagle's visit & post in Momsters for the beginning of this new week.
Jo, I did see the Ct. nest and them taking the "necklace" off the baby osprey. That was a great moment when man could step in and remedy the situation. It was a great day for that poor little chick.
Norma, nice pic of the falcon in Pa. They have moved the cam up close. You say he is eating another bird?
FINLAND OSPREY----Is sleeping ---- Sun reflecting on her feathers---gives them a red glow!!
CANDY---What do you think the FALCON is preparing?---I thought it looked like he was removing feathers from a bird?
Rats! I was out walking the dogs and just got back in. Looking forward to the pictures!
I checked on the Maine forum today about the Finnish osprey. They have only seen 2 chicks also.
Everything seems calm in the three So. Cal nests. Yes there is an eaglet in BW nest. Two chicks in Kent nest and a chick and egg still in Puget sound. Darkness has taken over Norfold and storks. It looks like the Pa. falcon is ready to take off again.
Would be great if that falcom could move just a couple of more inches to the left...
The one eating, I mean!
Norma, it looked like another bird to me too, but he seems to have lost interest in it.
Howdy Beachmom and Norma
LOL. stay away from my dinner!
Must fix FOOD!!----LATER!!
Aha, the one did steal it!
Hi Paula. Looks like the one Pa. fa;cpm took off and they need to bring the cam back so we can get a good look at the others on the ledge/
The one just attacked the other's dinner and he pushed him off the ledge. Then another one arrived and he chased him off too. Now he tried to come back and the one without the dinner chased him off too. They are still screaming at each other and now one is eating, LOL.
I meant no one was eating coz they were all screaming at each other. The other 2 have left the one alone with the dinner now and he is eating it.
The Pa. falcons must have been feeding on a bird, as thee are a few scattered about. A lot happens in the two minutes it takes to refresh the pic.
I saw them plucking the feathers.
Steve - Have you seen any other osprey up this way?
It is getting too dark and shadowy to see Finland, so I guess I'll have to take everyone's word that there are only 2 chicks in the nest yet. Maybe Suzanne will see something tomorrow when she checks in in the am
Is it me or did it get dark awfully fast at the Pa. falcon site? That didn't happen in the last 2 minutes.
Paula I was just thinking about you because I have a large piece of sinfully chocolate cake with rich chocolate icing! I know it's not nice to tell you that since I can't offer you some of it, but I couldn't resist!
I have heard from Megan - she has had major computer problems and had to get her old one out. Not quite up to par.. She had market today in Shepherdstown and on Saturdays' she is in Charlestown.... Maybe Sandra saw her when she went downtown this morning.
JO - You are bad!!!
I don't know if Sandy got to see Megan or not - I heard from her today, and she sold out by 11:30!!
Beach mom - it did get dark there pretty quick
That's great! If I ever want any, I have to tell her to hold them for me because I am a late riser!
Photos almost finished in album
Did someone say chocolate cake, knowing full well that she wouldn't have to share it? :) I agree with Paula, Jo, you are bad. Shame on you!
Photos ready for the Slideshow..
Sunday's evening visit
YUMMIE YUMMIE
LAST BITE ALL GONE
We have more commotion going on in a lot of nests this season!
Wood Duck TX
Read about these 2 females!
BBL
OHG Jo, I think the bird world is going crazy right along with the real world. There surely has been a lot of disturbances on different nests this season.
There was Paula telling us earlier this evening about the Pa. falcons even fighting each other for food.
Well, I think I am going to call it a day for now. Hope every father had a very nice Father's Day and the same for all you lady eagle/bird watchers out there. Suzanne will be back tomorrow morning starting our day with her wonderful sightings and writings. Good Night All and Good Morning Suzanne!
Went to the cupboard. No chocolate cake. So I ate some Twizzlers.
Well, you gotta do with what you have
Yup. Maybe I'll buy some chocolate cake tomorrow, thought!
Maybe I'll buy some Twizzlers!
I am going to call it a day!
Good night & Peace Be With You
Remembering all in prayer
Evening, everyone...
I don't have any chocolate cake either!!
I took a look at Mema Jo's Wood Duck nest...it almost looks like the mother has a huge throat bladder or bag, which she extends to help cover the eggs she is incubating. Am I imagining things? I've never heard of that, but that breed do lay a lot of eggs to incubate.
I hope somebody got pics or video of the PA fledglings returning at dinner time.
Jim
GOOD NIGHT/GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE...
Hope you had a good weekend, Suz.
I just read on the Maine blog that both the eagle and Osprey cams are down because of the computer failure ... the same computer that was attacked by hackers earlier in the season. Wing doesn't seem to think it will be fixed soon...
Have a good week,
Jim
Just had a bit of a scare coming home. 3 deer jumped in front of me. In Martinsburg. For those of you familiar with the town it was on Martin Street. A residential section but not where you would expect to find wildlife wondering the middle of the road.
Hi Suzanne, looks like I beat you here this morning.
Wow, good morning, Jill. You sure did beat me! I was late, and then talking to my boss, just now logged on. Geesh. Jill, don't know what's with the deer lately, but last couple weeks since it's been getting warmer, they are more in the street and on the shoulders. I'm thinking maybe the underbrush is growing up, and they are coming out along the road where it's easier to munch the grass. I must have seen a dozen deer this morning, but thankfully, was driving slow enough that I could stop if need be. That's part of the reason I was late. Driving too slow in PA, but I don't want my car damaged, and I DON'T want to hurt any wildlife!
Nice night out, though.68° at my house, 76° here already! Gonna be a warm one!
Don't have any cams up, and tried to print the blogs so I could read them later, but that's not working, so maybe I'll catch up another day.
All have a great eagle day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Just had an early visitor to the BW eagle nest. One of the chicks stopped by for a look around, then took off again. Our cam appears to be up, and have a good pic. Osprey nest MT. Finland, however, is awake...midday there. Appears to be raining, parent has wings out protecting the chicks. I'm gonna have to go back and see if the 3rd egg hatched this weekend. Stork babies are really getting big! Can't see a thing on the PA falcon cam, and they have not yet updated their site. They don't seem to be updating the site as much as they used to in years past!
Well, crap! Parent is up off the chicks, and think one of the chicks is using the egg as a pillow! So guess it didn't hatch yet. Hum, wonder if it will now.
Something is in the BW eagle nest. It's way too small to be Justice or Majesty, but it's a fairly large bird. Jill, are you still up? What is that?
Well, now I don't know. Looks like an eaglet, but I'm thinking the eaglet just arrived, and is making a meal out of whatever was in the nest. Have to send pics to Lisa, and ask her.
EAGLE ALERT!!!
Thinking it may be Belle, just standing in center of nest looking around.
BW eaglet still over whatever it was...
Still 1 falcon on PA ledge, probably the smallest one. Maybe he'll fledge today or tomorrow.
Eagle still in our nest, BW eaglet still in their nest.
Finland chicks are eating. Belle still in center of nest, BW still eating.
I was wrong, that's Lib, and he's on his perch prior to departure. Got the glowing eyes thing going on...
BW parent arrived, and can clearly see chick eating a very large fish now. Chick isn't mantling, though.
Lib still on perch.
BW parent left. Lib still on perch.
Lib still on perch just looking around. Waiting for Belle to show up and keep him company.
Oh, wings out, getting ready for takeoff. Facing in the nest, though.
Well, he flew over to the launch pad. So now, not sure who it is.
Poof, gone. I'll send pics, you all decide who you want it to be. I've never seen Belle on the perch, but I have seen Lib take off from the launch pad. But it looked kinda big for Lib, but it's still kinda dark.
Eagket still in nest toting fish to other side now.
Oh my, moved the fish to other side of nest and took off. Left leftovers.
BRB
Osprey just arrived. Other BW eaglet just discovered the leftover fish. He was eating something, now he's taken over the fish.
Poof, osprey gone.
Well, eaglet took a couple bites, went over to other side of nest, then left. Neither one of them must have liked this fish.
BW eaglets are turning out to be good hunters! Eaglet back with another fish!
BW eaglets are in and out eating leftover fish. Osprey nest (what I've been watching), still MT. Our nest MT. Stork babies getting big, out and about on the nest. Saw 1 falcon a couple times this morning, but haven't for a little while. Still looks wet in Finland, but parent keeping babies dry. Parent doesn't look too wet, but the nest and surrounding area looks wet. Mrs. B on her eggs, and I've seen 3 owls in Benicia, seems they are also in and out. That's my report for this hour...
One lone falcon is still on the ledge. He was eating earlier, so parents are still feeding him.
Dawn in Kent, parent in tree, both chicks taking up entire nest while they sleep!
There are now 2 falcons on the corner of the ledge. Not sure if 1 is a parent, or if both are chicks.
Pics from this morning's visit just went out. Still not sure who it is, your call.
GOOD MORNING SUZ--
I really slept in this morning. Spent all of yesterday in Winchester, Va with my children and grandchildren and was really worn out last night.
I just got a real good view of the Finland babies and there are clearly 2 and 1 egg. I would guess the egg isn't going to hatch after all this time.
Mrs. B is half way through her incubation. (due to hatch 23rd or 24th)
Kent babies are huge. Do you know when they will be ready to fledge?
Good morning, everyone,
I noticed before getting to the blog that VA eaglets are coming to the nest for food now.
Jim
one of the BW eaglets just arrived to eat also.
Check the Channel Islands...Santa Cruz cam is working this morning ... early ... but the two Catalina cams are not up yet.
The SC eaglet is branching this morning.
Jim
Just saw the SC eaglet take the short flight down from the branch into the nest and now he's feeding on left over breakfast...
Jim
Good Morning JIM
The SC eaglet is eating as if he hasn't eaten for a long time. He is really going at it.
Morning, Suzanne,
I was reading your comments about deer. Deer are browsers and feed on shrubs, etc., and they like the edges of fields, meadows, clearings ... and also roadways where their favorite foods grow.
They are probably feeding on new growth after the big rainstorms you guys had.
Have you tried that trick I suggested last year...blowing your horn when you see them near the road? That gives them another 'fix' on your position, and they usually will move away.
Jim
All 3 juveniles are at the nest in Norfolk, VA, right now.
Yes, Santa Cruz was really hungry and now he's repairing the nest...he seems a little ahead of schedule.
The eaglet last year always seemed a bit behind until after the fledging.
Jim
Lock Garten...both adults are present.
NEW THREAD HAS BEEN PROVIDED!!
LET'S GO OVER THERE.
JIM
HEY EAGLE BUDDIES!!---NEW THREAD!
Morning, CostumeLady and Jim. Jim, I thought of blowing my horn this morning, I had a deer half on and half off the road on the other side, but I was afraid I'd scare it INTO my car. I dimmed the lights, but didn't turn them off, cause I was afraid I wouldn't see him if he shot out in the road. Yeah, lately, they have lots of new growth to munch, but it's very near the roads. I did blow my horn last year a couple times, and not sure it did anything but startle the deer. They didn't run, but they were kinda very jumpy when I blew the horn. I'll try it tomorrow, I'm sure there will be deer on/near the road.
Candy, I don't know when they'll fledge, have to go count days. Something like 45 days or so after they hatch, isn't it? Don't remember when Kent hatched, have to go look it up.
Finland chicks are getting fed, other parent just left. They are so cute. I'm with you Candy, don't think that egg will hatch now. they are so cute, such little chicks, such big mouths!
Jim, both BW chicks this morning brought in fish.
Oh, there are 4 owlets in Benicia nest box! Haven't seen that for a while.
