I'll send a Texas quarter when I have one!!!!

Our lawn mower is in the garage other power lawn tools are locked in Jack's shop. All is good!

Hoda said...

I think you guys are Sweet!
Don't send quarters.
Come up and visit.
You truly would love it here in Nelson.
I feel so honoured and so blessed with your friendship.

Well I might have to wear socks and boots tomorrow !!!
I will drive an hour and a half north of Nelson for the garlic Fest. It is longer than I normally drive!!!
Up and down the same day!!! Three hours drive total!!!
Anyway the mountains up there had fresh snow on them!!!

Lolly said...

Oh, I am so jealous, Hoda. I know the beautiful country you are talking about. Wish I was there!

88 at 8 o'clock! Yucko!!!

stronghunter said...

I wore socks today, Hoda, but then it wasn't too bad.

Last night was chilly. I had to wear a jacket when I went out to watch the rocket launch. That was so cool. I took my computer out with me so that I had the countdown from NASA. And when they launched, I saw the rocket with a red streak behind it right there in the sky above my own neighborhood.

I was pleased that I was able to use the compass on my phone to calculate where to look...have not done much with compasses, but I got it right!

Lolly said...

Okay Okay Okay.....enough talk about cool weather. It is bad enough when you talk about rain, but now cool weather? Really?

stronghunter said...

Sorry, Lolly.

In need of some dessert. Going to head down to the kitchen.

I accept your apology, Shirley. :)

We have sprinklers going down front. Trying to save the pecan trees. We have a sprinkler system down front but we are just watering under the trees. Breaks my heart to see the grass dying down front. Paying big bucks to keep the lawn green around the house. That will come to an end soon. We can water twice a week but soon it will be only once a week.

magpie said...

I really wish we could share our rain with you, Lolly...

magpie said...

Oh fresh snow on the mountains in BC....would be something beauteous to behold

I wish I had been been able to watch the skies for the rocket launch....I wasn't able to go out for that, but thanks Lynne2 for the information !! Glad you saw it Shirley,
you are very hip with your electronic gadgets !!

I know, Margy! It is beginning to get to me. Our drive into town is narrow country roads with trees on either side hanging over the road. The trees are turning brown and dropping leaves. So sad! I want to water every tree!!!

I have quarters big time While I was watching the movie I went through my bank I got lots of quarters The funny thing is only one Fl but umteenmillion of the other states LOL

Hoda said...

Please do not send quarters.
You are very generous and it was a comment more about how much US money was infused in the Nelson economy that one person gets five American quarters in one day.

stronghunter said...

Can understand your feelings about bad news, Margy.

Getting sleepy here, so I think I am going to get into my pajamas. Haven't done too much today--well, I took Hunter to football practice and hit the bowling alley for three games. I actually did okay at bowling today. That was nice.

I am sure the Canadians get plenty of American money, Hoda. I remember getting Canadian coins from time to time the summer I worked on Lake George.

Lolly said...

Have to tell all of you, there is a girl in Jacob's class who is bigger. She is 5' 3" and wears ladies size 10 shoe. We are talking third grade here. We were in Jacob's room visiting when a lady came up to me. She is the mother of the little girl and she teaches 2nd grade at the school. She told me how thrilled they were (She and the teacher) to have Jacob there. They got the message before school started to have a desk raised for a larger student. We had a great visit. I was so impressed with the teacher but also with the students. I think Jacob is going to have a great year.

stronghunter said...

Nice to know things are looking good for Jacob, Lolly.

Now for the pajamas.

It will be great hearing all of the Jacob stories from this 3rd grade. I am also so very pleased with all you have reported to us about his school, Lolly.

I am soon to close down for the evening.

Before I go I must let you know about my furry friend Mr Marvin. You all knew 3 teeth were extracted - The late afternoon when he came home he was kept in the house. He slept well and took his medicine without any force needed. This morning he ate a lot of his soft food and also the watered down hard food. So out the door to the deck where he sunned for awhile - off to the yard and down to the edge where he loves to sit. I had kept the sliding glass door opened a bit - I was here at the computer and in comes Mr Marvin with a pretty good sized mouse for me! I shuddered and holler for hubby and he was able to retrieve it from Mr Marvin as it was dead. Mr Marvin went back out and this time I shut the door. Hubby walks out here towards the door and start laughing big time.... there is Mr Marvin at the door with his second mouse of the day. Mr Marvin is now known as Mr Mouse Mouth Marvin

With that story I am going to say

Wish I would have slept later.Guess I am awake extra early on this Sunday morning because I fell asleep so early last night. I could not keep my eyes open. It was terrible. I guess the 5 year olds have just worn me out. The week went so fast, but now I realize it's because we didn't have school on Monday. Geesh...

Good Sunday morning Dana and all my eagle friends!

Lolly, I love the snake cake - great job! Lemon cake with lemon icing - one of my favorites! Question, my nephew Michael just turned 9 and is starting 4th grade, yet Jacob is only starting 3rd. Did Laurel hold him back from kindergarten?

Jo, love the Marvin story - I guess that tells you he's feeling like his old self already!

Janet, how is Jack - home yet?

Nothing on my schedule today - will have plenty of time to finish the book I'm reading. I do have laundry to fold and the refrigerator is rather empty so I guess a trip to the grocery store is in my near future.

Tree is Shepherdstown is MT. Kevin (younger son) has been in the Shepherdstown area this past week. Brian and Lynnis flew to CA for some training Brian had to attend and Kevin went to Ranson to animal sit. He has a number of friends in Shepherdstown from his college days at Shenandoah University in Winchester.

Have a good day everyone!

Good Sunday morning eagle friends!

DANAMO, sorry the short week tuckered you out. Maybe you can take a nap this afternoon.

HODA, hope you have a great time and a safe drive on your way to the Garlic Festival. Remember, no brownies!

SANDI, no tennis today? Glad you get a day off to mostly relax. How is Bandit doing?

MARGY, happy day off! What are you plans.

LOLLY, have a blast at the party today with the special snake cake. Can't wait to hear of Jacob's reaction to seeing the fish aquarium.
I do the same as you with the tractor key...one key and it stays in the ignition. Never gets lost.

JO, are you going to the market today, or is even still open?

JUDYE, wishing you a good and fast day at work today. :)

I'll see if I can find a Pennsylvania quarter to send HODA.

Long day ahead. Stuyding 6 chapters, flash cards, and praying I understand the microbiology part!

KAY, anything special on your agenda today? Glad to hear that Seth is enjoying school and stayed this weekend.

Have a great day all....LOLLY, remember PICTURES!

ANDY, hope you do get your cooler temps today. Bet you have a lot of fans going.

I LOVE US!

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

Lori, wish I had thought to make flash cards when I took comparative anatomy in college. Memorizing is tough for me, and I had a hard time with that class.

Judie said...

Knock knock! May I come in, please? Oh, thank you so much.

Computer still not right but usable.

I see Lori has a new radio station and 95.5 seems a good indication of her test results. Congratulations!

I see Shirley has a new man in her life but seems he has to stay outside the house. Congratulations!

This is Jacob's birthday and he's getting a snake and a fish tank! Happy Birthday, Jacob.

And Paula is having a lovely weekend with her Studmuffin. So happy the first week at the new dough factory was a good one.

Wanda and the Capt. had a yummy soup kitchen with leftovers.

Hoda is into coin collecting. Hmmmm?

Others seem to be getting along with sunshine and pool time and all manner of family fun and activities.

Jo, sympathy to you and the family and friends of the young warrior. So very sad.

Nothing new here. One day after another.

Have a lovely sunshiny day.

JUDIE!!! So great to see you back here. Did you get your computer fixed?

Judie said...

Mr. Marvelous Mouse Mouth Marvin - too funny! Jo, he did his job and wanted you to be ever so proud of him. lol

So, now I understand why everyone is sending quarters to Hoda. She will need to pay for companionship after the garlic festival.

Lori, study well and take brain breaks.

stronghunter said...

GOOD MORNING...
Question for SANDI:
what year did Kevin graduate from Shenandoah University? My grandson, Brandon, also graduated from there. Was wondering if they possibly know each other. Brandon is 26 now, but I can't remember the year he graduated.

Need to get dressed and outta here! Have a Blessed Sunday ♥

stronghunter said...

Yikes, Judie, something major must have happened to your computer. Hard to believe it has been this long, and it is still not completely fixed.

I haven't used Norton, at least not recently. What do you think of them? It seems they should do better.

Judie said...

It is nice to be able to return. For how long is the question.

Although I am computer challenged, I do not think Norton is the culprit, or not the total culprit. I believe the problem is Google Chrome. Everything was being corrupted by pop-up ads that led to more ads that infected the system. I was even getting pop-up ads on the blog. The computer "engine" would race and race and race and we would have to turn it completely off. Hoping to have Peggy in India migrate my stuff back to Firefox. It was so bad we were assigned a "team" of experts to get the system cleaned up. They took control and we communicated via computer and telephone for up to 6 1/2 hours in a day. Have seen several ads yet this morning.

If any of you use computer protection other than Norton, please let me know.

Okay, off to do some laundry.

Lolly said...

Good morning!

Sandi....Cut off date is Sept. 1 in Texas. Jacob was not held back. There is a boy in his class who turned 9 in April. He apparently was held back by parents. If he had had a summer birthday he would have been held back and only be in 2nd grade this year. Yikes!

Looking forward to today. Going to be fun! Laurel has already posted a birthday picture. He got presents from his Mom and Dad this morning. Silly boy sleeps in a sleeper! Someone commented it looked like a Christmas morning picture. He had on his Coca Cola sleeper.

Sandi said...

Wanda, Kevin was at Shenandoah from the fall of 2001 til December of 2005 - he will be 30 in October. He was a music theater major so he was enrolled in the music conservatory program. If Brandon was at Shenandoah for serious academic pursuit, then he and Kevin probably never crossed paths, even if they were there at the same time. If he was heavily into spending Mom's and Dad's money and having a good time, then he and Kevin are probably friends! =)

Judie, welcome back to the blog. So sorry to hear about the computer problems but I appreciate the heads-up about Google Chrome! Will keep using Firefox like I have for years! We have Avast for our computer security - started with the free version but have now upgraded to the paid version. It only costs $40 a year to protect 3 computers (just renewed the license). I have been pleased with the job it does. Brian, our computer-geek son, also likes AVG.

Nest tree is MT.

Headed outside to work in the garden - later!

the greek fest was wonderful last night. had gyros (but the left off the feta :( louloumades (a fried dough puff with honey and powder sugar) and tiropita (cheese filled pasty puffs). wandered around, listened to the music which is delightful! shopped a little. about 2 hours and went home.

bowling starts tonight. our normal teammate, russell isn't bowling this year. so it will be tom, me, chelsea and a pal of mine from work jessie. we were the 9's last year. thinking of new names: chels' suggestions:

how i met your gutter

Judie, I use Microsoft Essentials. I became disgruntled with paying $75 per year for Nortons and it did not do anything. I run Spybot Search and destroy and it was always catching adware and spyware that Nortons never saw. Essentials is free, runs in your tray and you never know it is there.

Again, I have it on two laptops, one of which is on all the time and it has not had the first problem. You have to have a Window's OS and that is the only requirement. I use Firefox and rarely IE. It has gotten excellent reviews from CNet and Reddit just to name a few. And it's free. Just thought I would share.

stronghunter said...

I have used Spybot Search and Destroy, too. My sons told me about Spybot and Malwarebytes.

For anyone who owns a Kindle and loves cats, this book is a free download today - The Cat Manual, by Michael Ray Taylor. Here's the blurb for it:

"Humorous advice for cats, by cats.

The author “discovered” the feline world’s best-kept secret in a file hidden on his mother’s computer by her cat, Cleo, and now shares it with humanity for the first time. Topics covered range from avoiding visits to the vet, to the artful display of captured prey, to getting in the way of a human trying to read anything, including this paragraph. Upon publication, Cleo denied authorship and hired a team of lawyers, all of whom have their claws out, but despite her best efforts, word is spreading:

The Cat Manual is hilarious for cat-lovers of all ages."

Back to my book - I'm 89% finished reading it. Predictable but entertaining.

stronghunter said...

Poor Marvin. But you really don't need him messing with a mouse.

I remember Susan's kitty Soliel caught a mouse in Susan's apartment once. They took the mouse away from Soliel and she meowed as if to say, "Hey, that was MY mouse." Soliel was a little fuzzy princess of a kitty. Susan and her roommates were very surprised she caught a mouse.

They figured it arrived in their apartment inside a box that was delivered earlier. I think they had three cats at the time. A mouse would not last long.

stronghunter said...

Sounds very interesting, Sandi. I really think I need to invest in my own Kindle. I bought them for my sons.

and I didn't know this about juvies

In general, a Bald Eagle’s daily activity depends on the age of the bird and the season. According to the Birds of North America online, some studies suggest that immature eagles only spend about two to five percent of each day [24 hour period] in flight. More than half of their time is spent roosting, and about a third of their time is spent perching.

JudyEddy said...

that is at the bottom of the link so I wonder if our juvies are somewhere in the area in a tree

Judie said...

Good evening everyone.

So happy Paula is safely in paradise and Lolly & Co. had a lovely birthday day, and Will is enjoying his new tractor toy, and Hoda does NOT want our quarters.

Thanks so much to those who have offered alternatives to Norton. I have made a list and will ask Darth to check them out and encourage a change. I am appreciative.

Now, as for The Evil Jufie...over heard mumbling about making a visit to sunny FL.

You are welcome, Hoda. Those dragon boat ladies are amazing.

Headed to the pillows soon. Need to arise very early to make a visit to dracula. Routine. Cardiologist on Wed.

The sandperson is filling a large satchel. Restful sleep for all.

JudyEddy said...

JUDIE you need to discourage JUFIE from FL tell her its to hot or something we don't need her kind here LOL oh and you can tell her we are in hurricane season and she may want to go else where LOL

stronghunter said...

I rode the tractor for a bit. It will take some practice before I am comfortable.

We are home and watching THE GAME!

GO COWBOYS!!!

Great afternoon! Jacob was thrilled with the cake. The snake is already soaking in Laurel's bathtub! lol He loved the sweatshirt jacket we gave him. Silly boy was wearing it. Had to force it off him when we went out to eat. Thrilled with the aquarium and it is set up ready for fish in a couple of days! Enjoyed our meal out. The three boys together are so much fun! Jacob was properly embarrassed when the waiters sang happy birthday to him.

stronghunter said...

Had visions of driving John Deere into the new siding on my house, Margy. And I know I had some solid wood put under that siding. Would not have been pretty.

Wasn't sure about backing up, and not sure I could go through the open gate in the fence, so I made a sharp turn through the neighbor's yard, all the while wondering how much of an angle it would take before turning over on its side. Yikes.

But I calmly pulled it back into the front yard and got off without telling Will how scared I was.

Hoda said...

Had a great day.
I am tired.
Off early tomorrow.
Won't be on till I return from the five hour boat trip.

The passanger in my car talked non stop for an hour and a half going up to New Denver and an hour and a half coming down to Nelson!!!

I am in shock!!!

How can anyone talk so much???

What did she say?
I do not know!!!

That more than anything else did me in!!!

Goodnight.
God Bless Us All.

Lolly said...

Shirley, you will learn. I mow a ditch, but it took me a while to get the nerve.

Big win for the COWBOYS!

It has been a long day. Time to get to bed. Wondering what Laurel did with the snake in her tub. lol They had a reason why they put it there and not in Jacob's tub.
Not sure what the reason was.

Tomorrow a luncheon to go to and then Denton in the evening for Joseph's big game. Bless his heart, he is really nervous.

Night all! SED!!!

Lolly said...

LOL Just saw your comment, Hoda. Know what you mean about someone talking ALL the time.

stronghunter said...

Remember having a REAL snake in my tub at least once. That happens sometimes when you have sons who capture these things and bring them home.

stronghunter said...

Good night, Hoda. Sometimes, as they say, "silence is golden."

stronghunter said...

Time for me to say good night. Will need to get up early tomorrow.

Good Morning Everyone!

Here we go, kicking off another work week. Something for your retirees to smile about.

LOLLY, I'm so happy that Jacob had a fantastic birthday and loved all that you did for him...and that you got to see Zach and his parents, too. Big day for you and Jack with the whole family together.

SHIRLEY, you'll get the hang of the mower...please don't give up. Sorry that you were scared, but glad you didn't let Will know. :)

JUDIE, it's so nice to have you back. I'm so sorry about the computer hassles you went through. Dealing with Peggy is never fun.

Oh well, I got up early to study since I didn't get all of it done over the weekend. There's got to be a way to make more time in a day.

I love you all, dearly. Big Hugs for everyone!

Wishing you a warm (not hot) day, with sunshine, love, light and smiles.

Sandi said...

Good morning Lori and all my eagle friends.

Judy, Belle is still perched in the tree!

Sandi said...

Shirley, I have never ridden a lawn tractor either - i bet it would be a little scary til you get the hang of it!

Paula, you'll get very in tune with the moon and those tides as you live so close to water that could threaten your house!

Brian is in CA for some kind of training. Yesterday, he and Lynnis went to Disneyland. Brian posted on FB that Space Mountain was a lot more fun this time (24 years after we all went as a family). He also posted, "Just left the happiest place on earth." Cute thought!

First full week of school! I can do this! Make it a great day everyone!

Janet said...

GOOD Morning Eagle Buds

SANDI thanks for the Belle info

Judie said...

Good morning!

Need to make myself less scary for the public then off to see dracula.

Have a good morning!

stronghunter said...

Good morning,

Yes, we have a full week of school ahead. For students as well as teachers.

Sorry your team lost, Janet. We did too--by 4 pins for the total count. Shucks.

We also have a new member of the team, and she is an excellent bowler. Very lively lady with school-aged children.

Yeah, I just told Will that I would need a little more practice on the mower, but not that I went through some moments of terror--or near terror. I did know how to put on the brakes, and I quickly remembered how to slow down the engine from bunny rabbit to turtle.

stronghunter said...

Love your cute kitty there above my doggy, Judie. Hope she won't slash at Flash the way our cats did.

Poor Luna got greeted by a slash from Lucky and another one from George when she just walked into the house yesterday. I don't think either one draws claws out, but they make Luna jump, and they love that.

Of course, being blind, Luna does not realize the proximity of the cat until it is too late. I wish she would give them a loud "woof!", but she is too much of a lady to do that.

stronghunter said...

Hope all goes well at the Dracula place, Judie.

Hope the day of classes goes well, Lori. I so admire you for taking on such a challenge.

Will had some friends over yesterday, and they told me how excited he was about the new lawn tractor. I think he might wear out the grass. I don't know how many times he has driven back and forth over the lawn.

stronghunter said...

Will need to make time for bowling practice today. The alley does not open until noon. New hours this year. At some point, I will get this right.

magpie said...

Good Morning, Eagle Pals

the nest is unoccupied,
the branches are motionless
and the skies are cloudy

but it's there for us to watch!

magpie said...

Hot Diggity, Lolly DID have the three grandsons and all the big people together too!
This is a very happy thought!

Shirley, I do have this image in my mind of your tractor escapades....
I really am sure you will get the hang of it, and then you will be so surprised about it, when compared to the just beginning..

Bowling: my father loved to play, and loved to watch it on TV...."us kids" would go to the bowling alley for his league play ...I loved the whole sound of everything, people noise, pins, and all that.

We all went bowling as a family sometimes too, that was before gutter guards :)

magpie said...

Oh Hoda...I do know of that
non stop chatter from a passenger in a vehicle :(

I hope your day today is wonderful and noisy in the ways that please you

magpie said...

Best Wishes for a very nice day today, no matter what is on YOUR dance cards

Finally figured why the hummingbirds did not visit my new feeder. I needed to take the cap off! This new feeder came with a cap so you could shake the mixture without spilling anything. I have been boiling the water/sugar mixture and mixing them in the pan, so I don't really need the cap and failed to notice it.

I've had a few hummers since I removed the cap.

Someone recently asked about the occasional lights we see at the Sycamore Palace at night.

I wondered about that, too. After considering such things as UFO's and little green beings from other planets, I thought it's most likely lightning bugs, which means they should disappear fairly soon. If they do not, well, then . . .

Judie said...

Good afternoon.

Have finished my time with dracula. So silly, can look at horrible crime scenes but cannot watch my own blood being sucked.

Hope Shirley gets some bowling time today and can only imagine the near-terror of trying to operate a lawn tractor. However, her adventures sure are fun to read about.

Sad to report that two-year-old Aster was injured by a bullet. Can only hope she will recover and not suffer great pain. Sad also that she was collared and be-ribboned and a hunter disregarded her status as a research bear.

Now, off to tackle some school work for tomorrow.

Hoda said...

Good afternoon.
You have a new mad scientist on your hands!!!
It was so much fun to be out on the water.
We ran seven tests in three different spots.
Amazing instruments testing oxygen, chlorophyll, fecal matter...etc.
Pretty clean process actually.
Nice fast boat with a friendly Captain.
I was invited to join them again in October and I said I would. The dock is 35 minutes out of Nelson and the colours by then will be out of this world.
There were three women running the tests and our samples were already shipped to Provincial Government's labs.

Hoda said...

SHAR we are here for you and T-Bird too.
Thank you for letting us know.
Thank you for coming to the blog. Very good to see you.

Proud of you for learning it.

Hi all - will keep this short since my right eye is dilated and my vision is blurry. Yesterday afternoon, I noticed something like a cobweb in my peripheral vision. Last night, while driving to the store for milk, I saw little flashes of light in the same eye. Talked to the nurse and she said get to the eye doctor. Eye doctor examined me and said I have something called a PVD. Cannot play tennis until I go back for another exam on 10/4 b/c I am susceptible to a retinal detachment for the next 4-6 weeks. Good grief!!!

Shirley, my mom's mobility scooter has the rabbit to turtle thing. She started out running it in turtle mode all the time, now she's up to rabbit!!

OK, watching tennis on TV - men's final of the US Open. I like both Rafa and Djocovik so I have no preference for a winner. Bye!

JudyEddy said...

HEY does anyone understand the credit crap this is on the statement that I got with my score but there is no definition of the letters on either of the two pages I received

Your Risk Grade is B (Prime Plus)
Your credit score ranks higher than 73% of us consumers

Below is list of key factors that adversely affected your credit score in the order of their importance based on their effect on your credit score. We are required to provide these factors for all scores, including those that are very high in the range

1 The available credit on you open revolving credit acct is to low (Code RL)
2 The amount paid on you open real estate acct is to lo (Code MF)

3 The balances on your open acct are to high in comparison to their credit limits (code TQ)

4 The sum of your bank credit card acct balance is to high (Code BN)

Like I said there are no definition to the RL BN TQ MF ( I can make my own lol) and on that one I owe less that 8,000 on my home (what do they want me to do I can't figure this out
SHOULD I CALL THEM or SHOULD I JUST IGNORE bunch of mumbo jumbo to me LOL

IF anyone has a clue thanks in advance
Range of Possible credit scores: 501-990 is the scoring and I am 836 I use to be 795 so its gone up in scoring

JudyEddy said...

Hi, Gang,
Weather report from Anaheim: 93 here, with almost 40% humidity, going up to a predicted 99 degrees.
Keep telling myself, "Mind over matter...Mind over matter." It's supposed to be a couple of degrees cooler tomorrow, then much better on Monday. That's when the humidity is supposed to improve a lot.

Glad to hear that Jack improved enough to ask for a Dr. Pepper, and is picking at food! Hope he's able to go home!

Shirley, the Capt. Kirk video is hilarious!

Lynne2, that's great that you and Steve are volunteering at the cocker rescue!

Well, gotta go try to trim more of Emma's coat. She may eventually have a "summer" hairdo!

HAGD, everyone! I ♥ us!!!

Hi!
The post right before this one is mine from Sunday--I forgot to hit "publish"! Duh!

Haven't had time to read and catch up, so hope everyone's OK. You're all in my prayers and on my mind, whether I'm caught up or not!

Ken just got home, so gotta run for now. Will try to get back here after dinner. I ♥ us!!!
