Vacuumed many more animal hairs from the family room carpet again today. Kathryn got the dogs washed and got one of those brushings that removes loose hair.

We did the drive, Paula. We just did not stop at all the trail heads and do the hikes. Oh, we did do two hikes, one short and one long, but there were just too many people.

Going to load the moose picture. Will tell you when it is on.

Mema Jo said...

Shirley - Sounds like Belks has some untrained clerks as far as how to check and remove the safety gimick

Mema Jo said...

Lolly are you going to make a new album for this trip for your pics?

hedgie said...

Well, if we can hang on for a few more minutes and not do anything stupid.....we just might get another game in the win column!!

hedgie said...

Thanks for the warning, Shirley. Saw them Friday but decided to wait--glad I did!

stronghunter said...

Yes, Lynn, dresses are very short. I think it would be uncomfortable to wear a dress that barely covers your panties.

I also marvel at all of the bra straps showing. In some cases, the whole back of a bra is showing. One girl had purple bra straps with a dress that was not purple. If you are going to wear a dress that shows your back or is strapless, you just have to get the proper bra.

Lolly said...

Ok, put up two pictures.

Now going to serve Jack some warm apple pie. Bought a pie along side the road from the "Pie Lady". We bought one last time we were here. She said she made 26 pies this morning. Can you imagine?

stronghunter said...

I probably distracted the woman yesterday. There was a loose thread in the sweater I had noticed she was trying to fix. Of course, that's not an excuse.

The one at Christmas was looking for shoplifters. Again, that's not an excuse.

stronghunter said...

Hi Lolly. Where are you now?

hedgie said...

WHOOHOO, SKINS!!!

hedgie said...

Poetic justice in McNabb's eyes, no doubt!!!!

BEagle said...

Gotta see a picture of Gianni in a Reds dress.

: )

Lolly said...

Hi Shirley! We are at a KOA in Twin Mountain, NH. It is in the White Mountains.

BEagle said...

The towels were probably just to look at, not really to use. But if they put Redskins on something, it should be a good product.

New England Trip....blog!

stronghunter said...

Close one!

stronghunter said...

Wasn't sure how far along you had gotten, Lolly. Last time I read, you were headed for Ohio. I am having computer issues, and am sharing my little notebook.

stronghunter said...

Rus is headed home. He came down for a model helicopter get-together. He picked up Hunter and took him along.

Mema Jo said...

BEagle - I even have my gd's bulldog in Redskin gear! Not to mention their 2 children and dad and mom
They are coming home from Germany and already have tickets to the DEC game!

How hung up on a team can you be!

stronghunter said...

Nice pictures, Lolly.

Mema Jo said...

It is raining in the valley

Lolly said...

Was just reading the blog. When we went to the volleyball tournament, Elizabeth asked her Grandma, my sister, to wash some of her clothes. Her shampoo had exploded in her suitcase!! We cleaned her bag and her clothes, one of which was a denim skirt that was only about 10 inches long. We hooted and hollered at that skirt. Now mind you, Elizabeth is beautiful, 6'1" and skinny as a rail. Still trying to picture her in that skirt. I am not sure it would cover "everything". LOL She had even let out the hem...had strings hanging.

Mema Jo said...

I hope Paula gets back from WallyWorld before RUBICON tv show comes on.......

GO SKINS! GO RAVENS! WHAT AT GREAT DAY FOR FOOTBALL!

Lolly, glad you two had a nice day AND a very nice treat of chowder and lobster roll. Yummy.

Paula, a lobster roll done right is a life-long memory of yummy.

Shirley, I am beginning to develop a profile on school teachers who set off store alarms. Will forward to FBI profilers.

Bet George is in Chinese heaven.

Don't know about what your students wear to classes but some days I just have to close my eyes so as not to see way too much.

Congratulations, Hunter.

Lynn, may call Salvation Army tomorrow. They might take the typewriter. I'll get back to you and thanks.

Hi BEagle and TBird.

Nope, Shirley. Bra straps and "in" and students now cut away the tops of sweat shirts and sweaters just so bra straps will show.

Dinner is over and I think I'll got play like I'm Mema Jo and put my feet up. Been a long day on feet and legs.

stronghunter said...

I am sure it is hard to find skirts with any length nowadays. When I was student teaching, I got told that my skirt was too short, and it was barely above my knees. I could not find a longer skirt in the store, so I had to wear older dresses and skirts. We were not allowed to wear pants, of course. And we had to wear high heels.

Judie said...

Lovely pictures, Lolly.

Jo, raining here since 6pm. Grass already looking better after this week of natural watering.

stronghunter said...

You do that, Judie. You can also tell them that my skirt was too short.

Did I ever tell you about the time I was questioned by the FBI? It was a spooky experience.

BEagle said...

Got my son's dad a Reds ball cap. He ran into Jacobi and got the cap autographed. We will never know if the hat can be laundered with that signature on it.

Yeah. There are those into the Skins!

Hi Judie.

hedgie said...

Shirley, I saw one last night whose bra back showed a couple of inches!

Judie, did you eat cookies for dessert? Love pumpkin cookies!!
For those of you who are coffee drinkers, Starbucks has a Pumpkin Latte----Christie was taking Carolyn one at work for her b-day!
And DQ has a pumpkin pie Blizzard!!

stronghunter said...

So I guess I am already in their files.

Susan found a pin in a frozen potato dish, and we reported it to the police. It ended up with Will, Susan, and me being questioned by the FBI. They reported it to the Secret Service so the President would not be served any of those potatoes.

They talked to us for awhile and then left us alone in the room. Will commented that the large mirror in the room was not a normal mirror. Then, after the formal questioning was over, they had an "informal" conversation with us. Interesting technique.

So, Judie, I am wise to the ways of the FBI.

hedgie said...

Starting to get a bit of "scanxiety" here. CT tomorrow....as any of you who are survivors know....it is always a time of anxiousness until the results are in. And have to drink that terrible glop 2 hrs. before.....can't do it plain. First time I had one they said to add Crystal Light orange-flavored which made it taste like a Dreamsicle. Tolerable. Then they said no, can't add anything. Oh well----I added it anyway, and no problem, so will do so again!
Just glad there's some of my good shows on tonight to occupy my mind.

stronghunter said...

I saw a couple with more than two inches. I really can't imagine a parent allowing that, but maybe the parents do not know any better, either. A very pretty dress is not pretty with a bra back showing.

BEagle said...

Hoping for good results on the CT..
Hedgie.

stronghunter said...

Will be thinking about you, Lynn.

Lolly said...

Prayers going up for you, Lynn! Watch that TV tonight!

I am not into athletics. So yes in a since temporary but no not temporary. These are the ones I will be wearing. No others are
being made. I will call and see if I can see him tomorrow. He said called, "about anything".

not a link:
Judie for your typewriter and other things "freecycle" is

Shirley has used it and mentioned it on the blog.

Shirley lol George in a box. Our Tabithia loved paper bags.

hedgie said...

BEagle, I have a hat signed by Art Monk and a t-shirt signed by Darrell Green! I DON'T wear them!!

hedgie said...

Dana, I have no idea about the Starbucks. I don't drink coffee, so don't pay attention to their offerings.

Good Grief!!! Been trying to get to this last page forever & am getting ERROR 503!!!!

Went to grocery store after leaving farmhouse office & it started raining before I got out at around 6PM! Still light rain now.
We had an exciting arrival to work.
Opened door & alarm did not whine, punched in a couple #s of my code & nothing, so figured someone else had come by and didn't reset it. A little while later were visited by 4 police--one squad car, one p/up, & 2 motorcycles!!!They got message of breaking and entering!!!!So, alarm must be working, it's just not telling us!
Got home in time to see Skins win!
Now Da Bears are on! See Ravens won, also!

Hello Eagle Pals...raining here too

hedgie said...

Jo, I was referring to Starbucks.

Yes, Dana, see your comment.....if they are supposed to last for 2 yrs., it shouldn't be falling apart now!

Strange, Loretta. When I get the 503, my post still goes through. I just hit refresh and voila---back to page and comment is there!
Oh-oh, now we've got a burlgar in our midst!!!

magpie said...

Lynn...agree with Jo's idea: We will pray you straight through your CT scan Monday (( hugs ♥ ))

NatureNut said...

Lynn, Was reading back and remembered that a few years ago at Back to Bethesda, Art Monk was a guest car judge. Think he had lived in Chicago when he was young and had a neat old car. He signed my shirt. Gotta look for it. I told him my chipmunk story. Accidently hit one leaving the Park. Saved it & put in freezer to have it taxidermy mounted. I wanted it standing so I could make a little Art Monk Skins jersey for it!!!! (Unfortunately, wasn't mounted by a very busy person!)

magpie said...

saw the blip on here about an Eagle sighing at 6:58 pm ...then it was all Redskins !!

Glad Jo saw one of the Royal Pair.
I was watching after seeing ISS this morning, heard the eagles calling, both, but they did not visit the nest

First year I have actually heard the characteristic adult eagle sounds at this nest

NatureNut said...

Lynn, I never got to write a Comment---couldn't get to the page!! Are the police coming????

wvgal_dana said...

Hedgie-Lynne prayers have been sent and continue for your CT Scan.

Judie said...

Lynn, will think of you tomorrow and will say a "good report" prayer for you. How quickly are you given the results? Hope it is quickly as waiting is difficult.

Yep, Shirley. Will was correct about the mirror -- and there was a least one microphone in the room with you -- and there was likely a video camera taping your every move.

I did taste a pumpkin spice cooking. Okay but won't waste time or ingredients again.

Lowreeda, very glad there was no real cause for alarm. Might have spooked me a bit.

There is a Freecycle nearby. What I don't know is if recycled items are tax deductible. Darth will want to know. I'll try to contact them tomorrow.

magpie said...

Yeah, what's the deal on the burglar ???

There are so many burglars in this county...

DOH got hit the other day, scores of chain saws, pull saws and all other kinds of vital equipment got ripped off :(

magpie said...

food, and travel, and wildlife, and family pets, and family itself, yard and garden, clothes...sorry I can't comment on each and every one !
Sure is good to see what folks are up to though

Dana: best wishes with the orthotics...my first pair lasted over a year, then I got rechecked, arches had fallen even more so I got a second round of them

Lynn, Best of Holy Wishes on your CAT scan. You don't have to go in the tube, do you??? That must be for an MRI.Had one of those over a year ago--didn't have to go all the way in tube, but boy what clanging and banging even w/ear plugs. Need to take earmuffs! I was concerned about my neck stent--was not supposed to be metallic enough to have magnet effect it thank goodness!
Gonna see some Bears (Chi.)

BEagle said...

The eagle sighting at 6:58 was gone at 6:59. Maybe the morning will bring something.

This only thing I have seen since is spider legs.

Time to hit the hay.
You are in my prayers for a great week ahead!

hedgie said...

Loretta, does Frank do taxidermy, too? A man of many talents......do you still have Art ChipMONK in freezer???

Judie, Freecycle here is an online Yahoo group where you post an email on what oyu have to give away, or what you are looking to get for free, and then people hook up with you to give or take! Definitely not tax-deductible. Suspect that if you are talking about a municipal recycling effort that it is not tax deductible, either. They collect things for destruction and then metals, etc. are re-used in industry!

hedgie said...

Margy, it appears that 503 HAS replaced blogger cop----now that you mention it, I haven't gotten the old blogger error screen since the 503 page started appearing!

Goodnight, BEagle. Hope you have a good week, too.

Mema Jo said...

Commercial - Way to go Will!

magpie said...

G'Night BEagle, nice to see you on here today, good week wishes to you too...
yes, maybe birdies in the rain in the nest in the morning

This morning I heard quite a noise, almost thought it was raining here in the neighborhood or wind blowing, saw across the way hundreds of grackles roosted in tree tops and making their noises, then they all swooped and flew into another set of trees, think they were getting ready to migrate South, did not see them after they roosted too far away the third time

wvgal_dana said...

Hedgie-Lynn when to you get results of CT Scan?

stronghunter said...

Hi Judie,

That happened at a time when people were making false claims about things being put in food products, so I know they were just checking us out to see if we were trying something like that. It was a creepy feeling, even though we were innocent of any wrongdoing.

They told us that we were in control of any publicity. We did not want any. We just wanted to report a possible problem.

We were all aware that we were left alone to see if we might talk freely when we thought no one was listening. I suppose many people fall into that trap. I am sure there are plenty of stupid people out there.

Fortunately, we had nothing to hide. We never heard anything else about it. That's just as well.

It was a very big mirror in a very strange place for a mirror. I have been on the other side of a mirror like that looking for shoplifters in a store. I also observed children in a preschool when I took child psychology.

Will has watched plenty of TV shows.

I figured they might have been amused at how quickly Will noticed the obvious. But maybe they weren't amused.

He was probably in the eighth grade at that time.

stronghunter said...

George is sitting here with me as I relax in the recliner. Whoops, he acted like he might bite me. He'd better make nice. We are in this adventure together. He has a good life whether he knows it or not. No hissy fits or biting allowed. He has been hissing at Hunter and Kathryn. He gonna have to suck it up.

stronghunter said...

Regarding the FBI. There was a camera at the entrance to the place. And the door was locked, as I recall. They had to let us in.

And the sign outside the building did not say who was in that suite.

hedgie said...

Well, thank goodness, CSI: Miami picked up where it left off last season!

stronghunter said...

We accomplished a lot today. Especially Will. He mowed the grass and hooked the dryer to a flexible exhaust hose so we could put it closer to the wall. He also put the washer in a plastic tub thing to catch leaks. Then he, Kathryn, and Rus discarded a lot of stuff.

stronghunter said...

I'm sure you can't get tax credit for things you freecycle.

It is amazing what people will take, though. I had been putting off taking things to donate. It is nice to put it on the front porch and have it disappear. Kathryn appreciates the covered porch. It doesn't matter if there is a little rain.

Mema Jo said...

The eagle sighting this evening - I think it was Lib and I placed the
6:56pm photo in the E_M album.

hedgie said...

Sounds like a very unsettling experience, Shirley. Too bad the VICTIM had to go through that, as well as her family!

Mema Jo said...

I can tell George is not really the King Of The Hill nowadays! It does sound like he is coming around.. I
hope he warms up to Kathryn and Hunter
eventually. Give him a few extra pets as long as he doesn't bite... lol

stronghunter said...

It was in the middle of my very eventful divorce, Lynn. Just one more adventure in the middle of so many more. Never told the ex nor much of anyone else. It has been awhile now.

Mema Jo said...

I'll just say that the Bear Update
is up and Lynn will give you a
link

stronghunter said...

George is generally okay with Kathryn, and usually okay with Hunter. But he got an attitude with Kathryn today. She can put him in his place. He used to be her cat before he came to live with me.

hedgie said...

Funny, Jo!!!!!

Shirley, sounds like a good case of revenge to me. I'm sure Judie can analyze George's behavior, but to me he is definitely retaliating---probably abandonment issues!!!

stronghunter said...

Thanks for bear report info, Jo and Lynn. Looks like things are okay.

George is purring. Happy to have me to himself. He was frazzled because there was a lot of activity here today. Rus joined us and there were model helicopters flying around the room, though George ignored them for the most part.

stronghunter said...

It is getting late. Time for me to look for the sandperson as Judie says. I will see you later.

Mema Jo said...

This comment "visiting households that feed bears" I thought it was all woods related as far as the bears finding food.

I guess the cubs go with their mother into a den even though more cubs are going to be born in that den.

Bears are very interesting! Well, so are all of natures creatures........

Bear Update

The Wait Continues

The Wait Continues

October 3, 2010 – 8:04 PM CDT

Jo_-_20101003After checking her den again yesterday, Braveheart has moved slightly over 2 miles away from it.

About 4:30 PM today, Lily and Hope finally decided to leave the small area where they spent 44 ¾ hours 1.9 miles from their den. As of 8:08 PM, they were 1.1 miles away from that spot but are 35 degrees off course if they are heading for their den.

The pattern of locations for Lily and Hope in the small area they spent so much time suggests foraging. We’ll know when we check that spot for scats. But if they’re still hungry, why aren’t they visiting households that feed bears? Are they looking for something special? The scats (or lack of them) could give a clue.

Jo_bed_-_20101003After moving 5 miles 2 nights ago, Jo (picture) spent today bedded only a quarter mile from yesterday’s bed. She had raked leaf litter from a large area today to insulate her from the cold ground (picture of bed).

Juliet and cubs also spent the day in a small area, but early this evening they moved to one of her old dens. We wonder if she is thinking of reusing it. This is the second time she has visited this old den this fall.

All still have their ribbons, which have proved to be durable and highly visible, but they probably won’t encounter bear hunters now. They are mostly sedentary, and few bear hunters are around.

hedgie said...

Jo, Lynn has mentioned friendly nearby landowners before, as well as some that aren't.
Oh, yes, denning with the cubs that are under 1 is normal....even if new ones are expected.

Judie said...

I hope Shirley finds the sandperson quickly as I am in need, also.

Lynn, not such a very long wait. That is good.

Goodnight Shirley and BEagle.

Am turning my light off but will leave the night light on for others coming in, headed back the hallway, to the tub, or elsewhere that momsters and dadsters go in the dark of night.

Hi, Everyone,
Getting here kinda late, but just got home from Sis-in-law's. Had to go let the bulldogs in for the night.

We spent most of the afternoon watching pre-recorded TV shows. Needed to get caught up. Have now deleted enough of them to have plenty of room for new ones this coming week.

It has cooled down nicely tonight--the air is full of moisture, and feels like fall. Should be comfy sleeping tonight. It's down to 62 already, and it's not quite 8:30!

Lynn, was it you who asked where we got the pumpkin pancakes? Our favorite breakfast place, Kimmie's Coffee Cup, has them. Yum! While I'm thinking about it, our favorite coffee is the sugar-free vanilla iced coffee at McDonald's. We're absolutely hooked on it! I've figured out how to make a pretty good "wannabe" at home, though.

Read back a bit here--Lynn, had to laugh at the mental picture I got of Cinnamon chasing the cat! Must've looked like the Keystone Cops!

Shirley, sounds like George might have a case of sensory overload. Way back when we had our Siamese, he would get that way sometimes, too, if there was a lot of activity in the house. We had a floor-to-ceiling carpeted scratching post for him. It had 4 shelves on it that allowed him to get up high, away from small children and our cockapoo. It was kind of like a pole lamp the way it stayed in place. Does George have a place like that where he can chill out?
Maybe even a spot on a high bookcase shelf.
A friend of ours, who always had a houseful of cats and several dogs, put in a dutch door to one of the bedrooms, and kept the top half open at all times, so the cats could get away from the dogs. I think George has adjusted to the "full house" admirably, but might just need a place to retreat to once in a while.

Oh, my! A somewhat tardy HAPPY BIRTHDAY to CAROLYN! Hope it was a GREAT day for you!

Good Monday Morning in Eagle Land and also to those that don't blog but read it.

Hi Andy, and Hedgie-Lynn.

I have prayers going for Hedgie-Lynn for a good result for her Cat Scan.

I was saying prayers for Diann but only God knew why. Now I know today she too is having a Cat Scan.
Prayers for good results also.

Wow Hedgie-Lynn that bear lived a long life and delivered a lot of cubs. Still sad though (:

Shirley my Tabithia didn't like a house full.
She always found her own space. After they left she would come around again. I would think with
additional dogs now. Maybe George just doesn't quite like all the new ruckus.

Hope to see another moose!

Good morning,

I am on hold for my new insurance company. I have been on hold for an hour now. My planning time is precious. I am not happy.

Andy, George can get into my bedroom and sometimes does.

I am still waiting on hold. I will soon be forced to hang up and wait until this afternoon to call again. It is so frustrating to have to wait so long and then give up.

I need to get ready for my first class.

The elevator music is making me angry.

stronghunter said...

I really hope that the fact that it is a Monday at the first part of the month is the reason for this long wait. They have been calling me and leaving messages that I need to call them.

I called last week, but it was a different number, as I did not have this number with me at work. I just need to make sure everything is okay. I am afraid that today is the last day for me to get things straightened out.

Prayers for Lynn today. Also, I think I read that Diann needs a prayer today, so prayers for her as well.

Call them from another phone while you are on hold Shirley, and when they answer, tell them you are still waiting, for an HOUR, on the other line and you will wait no more!

Good morning everyone! Dreary cold day here. Chilly in the house. Would love to turn the heat on to get the chill out, but landlord turned it off last spring. I asked them to please turn it back on the day before yesterday because the weather was going to be so yuky, but it didn't get done. UGH.

Prayers for clear scan today Lynnellen! For Diann, too!

Have to do some chores before heading to the dentist for my stupid filling. double UGH.

Finally got to talk to insurance people.

So irritating, I know, Shirley! :(

Lynne, feeling your dental anxiety! Yuck---hate dental work.

stronghunter said...

Sounds like a good plan, Lynne. But I do not think I would have had any opportunity to talk with a real person.

The lady seemed astonished that I had to wait so long. She just wanted to tell me about their rules. Geesh!

Bell about to ring!

Bye.
