Cam Update: I just got a call from the tech guys who were out at the tree. About 60 feet of the cable is damaged, thus the lack of signal. We are going to pull down the webcam signal and continue our preparations to go up the tree and work at the end of the month. More on this as they give me info.

Technical Note - Our cam technician will try to work on the cam on Friday. If we can fix it on the ground, we'll continue with the season. If not, we'll shut down the cam until November or December.

CONGRATULATIONS PAULA on being the first on today. You were the early bird. I could hear my air conditioner going, and I was sooo comfortable in bed, I hated to get up and get cool. Finally had to get up to iron a shirt for my husband. He sings in a church choir and they have a funeral this morning.
Going to check out the BB/Swallow nest and see how far they have gotten on the nest. BB

7/4/07 UPDATE---KESTREL BOX:--Some may have noticed there were 4 chicks...Now 3.....What happened is not uncommon among birds of prey...1 CHICK was somewhat behind the others, etc....& not sufficiently getting its share of food.----It weakened & was consumed by its siblings. NATURE CAN SEEM CRUEL TO US, BUT IT IS EFFICIENT.----(have learned to accept this)---

GOOD MORNING WANDA! It is funny that you should get on now, as I just went out and got my cup of coffee. :) I also had to put on some eggs to boil, as my husband and I are going to a micnic as a going away gathering for a young man who in going into the Marine Reserves. I am going to try and do deviled eggs. Knowing my luck, I'll probably have trouble getting the shells off.
CANDY--
Try putting the eggs in cold water and refrigerate them for awhile, if you have time. Then crack them and roll them around and around on the counter--shell should peel right off. If you just pulled the eggs out from under the hen, it won't work! LOVE DEVILED EGGS!
You can always revert to Egg Salad if you have to! lol

Had my COFFEE this morning at 5:30--No on up to share it with.

HOW TO BOIL EGGS!!---THIS NEVER FAILS!!!!!
Put your eggs in COLD WATER & bring to a GOOD BOIL----COVER & take off stove & let them set for 20--25 min.----Pour off water & IMMEDIATELY STICK THEM IN COLD WATER----I put them in the FRIDGE when I take them out of the water to cool them!!!---WILL PEEL RIGHT OFF!!!!

Yes NORMA, I have made lots of boiled eggs. I love them any way they can be fixed! I LOVE Eggs Benedict and Eggs in Spinach salad.
Eggs do not love me. (Cholesterol)

"60 feet of cable damaged" ... sounds like permanent for this season.
I was reading over at the IWS site, and apparently the heavy overcast at the nest sites on Catalina is the culprit keeping the WE and TH cams dysfunctional ... no sol, no solar power.
They do have a few pictures of the nests and eaglets that Dr. Sharpe took recently...and some aerial shots of Catalina Island with nesting sites.
Well, I've got some chores and errands to do. I'll check back later.

It sure looks like EGGBERT flew the coop. He wasn't there when I looked awhile ago, but I didn't know if he had already fledged or not. There he is. or there was just feathers and body in front of the camera for a minute there. He's there; right by the middle.
I can hear Limuw screeching away on his cam, but don't see him. Just the buzzing of bees or flies.
I was busy blogging & now Eggbert has returned and I didn't see from where?
Anyone see him come back to the nest?

I did call Sandra but she was out with daughter-in-law. I'll touch base with her later. Did get to speak with Tom and told him good luck next week and that we would see him soon walking the streets of Shepherdstown -he agreed that in about 4 months that will be happening!

Jo, all I saw was an empty nest and then when you said he was gone, I looked and saw more empty nest and then he came in from behind or along side the camera as there was a flurry of brown feathers in front of the cam and there he was.
Glad to hear that things are still ok for Tom. Our prayers will be with him to get thru this and on his feet again.

Rehearsal dinner was great! Paula, Amber was there & we talked. Had red velvet cake! Yummie! The buffet was extremely good - it was at the Hagerstown Venice Restaurant - service was really good. Everyone is really ready for tomorrow!
Glad to hear it Jo. I just heard they redid the bar/dance area, but haven't been there yet. We used to have a bunch of compamy dinners and stuff there, food was always good.
