I have some pictures of a Luna moth that was on my porch a month or so ago (pics are soemwhere... if I find them I can send them somehow - well with my bad luck with email maybe not..)

Paula & Belle: The email didn't go to the Momster site - I just checked it out... Unless you, Paula, get them first & approve them. But I know when I send a message that it pops right up in my inbox only minutes after I hit send.

That hummingbird pic is great, hope mine turn out as well, snapped a bunch over the weekend when they were out.
Wow-computer completely froze up-had to shut it down and restart...full moon..Yeah WVA Vicky-I read it,it is an unteresting moth.wings move very rapidly just like a hummingbird.If you stand still they will fly all around you to get to the flowers,sometimes brushing by you.They are quite large and often people are afraid of them,but they are harmless.Just quite beautiful to watch.
Maybe right about a line for the phone... not sure what time lights out is... oh well

I've never seen such a big beautiful moth - I thought the luna moths were big - but they're tiny compared to that!

Thanks Paula-hard to catch them sitting still,takes a little while,sometimes all they do is fight.Ate a late lunch by the feeder so I could get some good shots.

Yeah Belle-I love luna moths also,never see them in my yard-sometimes if hubby is working late,he'll see one in a parking lot.(they are attracted to the lights)at least twice he brought me a luna moth home.What love!!

I sat out on the deck this weekend, have the feeder and 2 plants all in a row. They were dive bombing each other, flying to the trees and resting, sitting in the vegetable garden, and stopping at the feeder. Sat there quiet as a mouse, one finally landed and sat on the hook that holds one of the plants...got a pic or two...hoping they turn out halfways decent. Was a most enjoyable time, drank 3 cups of coffee Sunday morning watching them, very relaxing!
Vicky-Il- there are many different types of hummingbird moths.Some are out during the day,they resemble large bees.fly like hummers.Others are sphinx moths(also called hummingbird moths),they come out at night and are larger.
Has anyone ever heard the hummingsbirds chirp? They are so cute, sound like little sqeaky mice! Finally got to hear that this weekend, too.

Luna moth is green and kind of luminescent. I think if he was thinking it was a hummingbird it is definitely Floral's Sphynx moth check her photo album on momsters..

Are you working towards a degree? I well remember those days of night class and Saturday class... took me 14 years to finish college part time and get my Bachelors degree.
Yeah Paula,sometimes they come so close to my head when they are fighting I'm sure they are gonna crash into me.You can hear them slam into each other and they are very vocal.One of my favorite summer activities is watching them.When I'm out in the garden they are flying all around me nonstop.

Vicky-Il if it was out during the day it was a hummingbird moth- if you google images of hummingbird moths you will see lots of pics of them.There are several different kinds.
Yepper Paula on the degree - I am a 'hair width' away from my Master's - it has been a grueling two years working full time and taking classes non-stop but is the way things are now with the No Child Left Behind law - have to have the paper from the big university or me no workies

Oh hummers are quit mouthy; I love it when the bird book says; "they don't land always flying" lol. They land on lots of things. They try to run one another away from feeders no matter how many you put up.
I love the sound the hummers make when they dive bomb each other . I think that's where the got the sound effects for the light sabres in Star Wars movies LOL

my BS is in Biology from MANY years ago.. Masters is in Special Ed.. From WVU, Marshall and took a couple classes from Univ of Phoenix last summer too

Paula - I hear you on 14 years being enough... folks want me to get my Dr. next - like H... NO - I have had no life for the last two years - wouldn't be fair to my family and the pay raise would be like 2k a year - cost way more than that in classes... I wouldn't be taking these if I didn't love teaching and want to work with my students.

Sneaks in door.. Sorry i was busy tonight training the new girl.. Today has been a wonderful day and i still can not believe that the kids were near here up in the sky,, They seem to be heading south towards Winchester ok.. I even went and checked on eagles wing formation and other large birds and i think i haveseen them enough to recognize them.. It was them i know in myheart it was they didnt stay long but long enough to take my breath away..

When husband and I went to get groceries yesterday. On the Interstate we seen a bird high high up in the sky couldn't tell what it was. It was just soaring and soaring over Martinsburg. Sometimes when they are that high you can't see if more if they are higher. We both thought of Eagle. Then nah. Now that Nilla said that I do believe it was also what we saw.

Good Morning Everyone.. Well Vicky i saw them it was shortly before 5 pm and from the direction they would have been like over the country side out this side of RT11.. but flying towards the south, they all three circled afew times but they were high, sky was clear. Sorta like flying over towards the airport.. Well hope everyones day is beautiful its going to be fantastic no humidity and nice all week. Mits no i wasnt tryin to hide them..lol But movedback so you could see Jo.. That poor boy Jo went in and grabbed him off his stool
