GOOD MORNING EVERYONE Cloudy and winds out of the NE here at the beach...going to start to pack up and head home, have to be at the zoo tonight for a meeting. Still having e-mail issues on this computer, can read, but not reply or compose, so please, am not ignoring you all who are sending:)!
also having problems getting onto sites on my fav list..when I come back in the middle of June, maybe I can get someone in to look at it...Comcast, has been here twice, guy just tells me I need mor RAM, my D-I-L disagrees with him, says I have enough...
If there's a big doubt, just buy a new one with at least 2 gigabytes (3 would be better), because the Vista operating system uses a lot more resources, and this watching nestcams, etc. uses even more over the course of a day.
good question, Jim, not being a technical person, don't know, but probably not enough for this 6 year old PC:(, hubby brought laptop done for me, and evidently it was working, but he did not bring antenna for my wireless mouse, and I'm not adapt and doing the keyboard thingy, and the computer was in the room where one of my granddaughters was sleeping, so did not get a chance to see how it worked.
Good morning! Been checking all the cams. Nothing much going on in Finland. Still only one eagle in the OK nest. BWE looks MT and the PA falcons are all over the ledge, presently eating.
I took Friday to see if they would fledge. They kept coming 1/2 way out. By 6pm I decided they were just pulling my leg. I was ready for them on Sat. I set things up alittle before and finished by 7am. I wished I had used a video camera. Too far away for my camera. Freezing a first bundled in my coat, blanket over pants legs and hat on head. I was ready !! Then it got hot...yep started removing items..then the sun kept trying to hit me. Don't do well sun and Meds.
I was determined this had to be the day. Ate breakfast out there. Kept checking the movement with the binoculars. Those little rascals looked like sometimes they would fall out of the nest box. Nooooo they was not ready..I still think they were playing with me.
Then at 10:45am one came out "flying" straight up about 25 to 30 feet to the electric wire. 10:48 yes 3 minutes later the 2nd cam "flying out" straight up to a tree 25-30 feet up then moved near sister on the electric wire. I did not see the 3rd one fledge. Probably happened while I was excitedly looking at the 2 on the wire up there. 1st fledge was a girl and 2nd fledge was a boy. Could certainly tell my the size.
One feeding from Blue (Dad) and Birdie (Mom) and believe it or not...truly they flew along with them to the orchard in back. I watched them flying from tree to tree.
They aren't like some birds...they must be born with the instinct to fly well right away.
Although looking through the binoculars. Their chest was dotted with brown but a lot of white fluffy fuzz. lmbo
An experience I could not put a price on. ( : Blue, Birdie and the BB's..
Have been watching the OK eaglet that is left in the nest. It "flies" to one edge to the other. One time it sat on one of the little sticks sticking out from the nest. I held my breath...afraid the stick was going to break.
OK computer experts....one of my icons at bottom of puter reads as follows: LOCAL AREA CONNECTION 5...SPEED 12.0Mbps....STATUS: Limited or no connectivity...what does that mean??? when trying to repair it says if it doesn't work, it may not be my puter..to call the network...does that mean call Comcasr??? I will not be back here til middle of June, so it will have to wait:(
Has anyone seen any update on the NBG eaglet? It's Buddy - right?
Glad we now have the 2 separate ledge views up at the PA Falcons! San Jose falcons are getting darker feathers and running back & forth on their ledge at the nest box.
been paying for high-speed internet here for almost 2 years, and it has never worked, and they blame it on my puter...you are very welcome, DANA.....parent in the nest...thanks for the info, PAULA ANS SHARON
Good Morning, everyone. Another cloudy, cool day here. I am having live feed problems, also.
Jo, here is an update on Buddy from the 26th:
The young eagle was examined first thing this morning and appears to be in normal chatty spirits. The bird is gaining weight dramatically and takes food without hesitation.
The mass has again increased in size since Saturday and now protrudes below the cutting surface of the upper beak.
Listed on two different food boxes.... Help please? Does anyone know the difference? FOOD QUESTION: Enriched four bleaded (wheat flour, malted barely flour). and Enriched wheat flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour)
Comical the way our 2 eaglets are keeping an eye on whatever it is that Pearl is eating. lol Pearl is hopping with food in talon! Not too graceful!! lol
The 3 eaglets are just being still in the nest. One at noon, one down around 6 and the other in between. They are just looking out & feathers are being blown .... My live feed keeps fading in & out I do STOP it and start it up again & it last for awhile......... Their feathers are really being ruffled by the wind. Of course they are facing the wind......
Good afternoon; Well it's time for me to head home and check on the eagles and see how there doing,we still have three.I just posted more photos on my webshots site pages 11 & 12 I will see all of you tomarrow.
Hi Bill - The signs are posted and in effect around the nesting area. I am trying to see if the view from the DayCareCenter would be good. Waiting for a reply from NCTC to help me on that decision. If we need to park along the road enroute to the day care - that is when we may wish to minimize the amount of cars going in. We may all get a ride in the Eagle Express VERY ANXIOUS TO MEET YOU AND VERY GLAD YOU ARE COMING IN!
May 27 One of Wolong's two missing pandas, Xi Xi, has been found. Xi Xi was found over the weekend wandering in the dense forest, about 200 meters away from the breeding center. Staff at Wolong continue to search for the remaining missing panda.
DEB - I'm sure if we go over to Larry's updated blog later, he will tell us what it was. There is a raft that floats nearby (it's there to deter the boats from coming too close) - if it were a boat with a dog in it - that loon would be off the nest...............
Deb, it sure looks like a boat close to the loon nest, I've seen the raft and this doesn't look like it, it keeps moving left to right and back again...loon looks mad.
Ok, maybe it isn't the raft if you've seen it before. I thought the loon looked upset, too. I thought I saw a paddle once, too. I wonder if someone is taking pictures.
Larry said that the raft is anchored in place, but the storms were strong enough to move the anchors. That would explain why it is floating around like that. I wish we could see more of it.
No Jo,, they had the cones nearby, and the speed limit was down to 45, but saw no workers, think they might be doing it a night, because the big lights were nearby.
UPDATE: May 28 2008, 3:00pm by Dr. Dave McRuer, Director of Veterinary Services at the Wildlife Center of Virginia
We performed an in-house test of the eaglet's blood for lead (a common contaminant that brings Bald Eagles to our Center). The levels were below detection, indicating that this is not a contributing factor causing the mass on the beak. Blood was taken today for several other tests aimed at ruling out an environmental source. These tests include a panel looking for heavy-metal contamination and organophosphates, a common group of chemicals used in pesticides. Results should be in by the end of the week.
The mass itself continues to grow. A swelling has recently developed on the roof of the mouth, directly under the soft tissue mass. This swelling was not present when the bird arrived at Wildlife Center and is not encouraging. In addition, the top beak has begun to deviate in the direction of the mass leaving the tip of the beak at least 1/4 inch to the left of the same point on the bottom beak. Our theory is that with the disruption in the bone under the mass, the growth of the beak has slowed down compared to the same bone on the right side of the beak. As a result, the healthy right side is literally pushing/curving the upper beak to the left.:(
So I wish it were as simple as Remove the growth & give Buddy an artificial beak like Beauty got They are feeding him a lot & he is gaining weight. I hope they can all get their heads together & come up with a way to help the little guy!
Thank you Mother Nature for NOT letting any of our 3 eaglets or our Liberty & Belle go through any of these scenarios that have touched the other nests!
I don't know, sounds like a real problem for the little guy. Hope they can help him. Gotta go back out and plant in the garden, and its time to check the peonies again...... c u
NEST WEATHER Tonight Clear. Lows around 40. North winds around 5 mph this evening...becoming light and variable. Thursday Sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. Ok, here is my 2 cents worth: I think the Biologists at Norfolk are playing around with Buddy, experimenting, teaching, learning, etc. about this growth. It is my opinion that the growth should have been removed immediately, and then tested, biopsied and examined to their hearts content. Meanwhile, Buddy is in the processes of dying...even if he is eating like a horse. When they do get around to removing the growth, they will have to remove his whole head to get rid of it all!! I am ANGRY!! I know that I know nothing about the process of rehabilating an eagle, but this is what my heart is saying.
Here is the last paragraph of the update from NBG:
Our current treatment plan includes antibiotics to help fight secondary bacterial infections, antifungal drugs to prevent the occurrence of aspergillosis (a common fungal disease in raptors that are enduring stress), and medications to help boost the immune system. The mass is also being scrubbed daily with iodine to slow its growth and help keep any open wounds clean. We are still awaiting authorization to release biopsy results from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Yes, that is what it sounds like to me. That might also explain why they are taking more blood samples--the results came back inconclusive. Is that the right word?
LIVE WEB CHAT: Friday at 1:00 pm, please join us for a live Web chat with Ed Clark, Director of the Wildlife Center of Virginia. This will be your opportunity to ask questions about the eaglet's treatment for avian pox and its future.
It sounds to me like Buddy's life is wrapped up in RED TAPE. To give them the benifit of the doubt, maybe they knew from the beginning that Buddy couldn't be rehabilitated. Bless his heart.
This is really upsetting. I visited NBG just to see the nest. They have had no luck this year and poor Buddy. It breaks my heart! Have forwarded info to Suz.
Okay, I have done that which was requested! Now, I am really new to this so please be patiet and excuse mistakes. I have created a blog!!!!! Yes, I finally did it!! More to come when the caladiums are all up and open.
Thank you Deb! The yard is my biggest interest aside from family. I spend a lot of time out there. Jack is always saying "I have a d---- good gardener."
Hey gang! Anyone remember me? I started a new job about 3 weeks ago, and I can't get on the computer during the day anymore. And I'm too tired at night to do much. I hope everyone is well. When are our trio schedule to take flight??
Hi Jo! I'll say something to Myron about the 7th. I'll be getting a new e-mail address in the next week or so, but you have both of my home addresses. I'm working in Chambersburg, and we're moving into a new building sometime next week.
Sounds good! Job location not to far from home - watch out for those BIG trucks in the fast lane on 81! They move you right along! Would be great to see you 2 again! Let me know - even at the last minute!
BWE nest is MT BWO nest female in nest Lucy Loon just bobbing up & down Wild Watch Cams: Osprey incubating egg(s) Lake WA eaglets peeking out from behind the tree trunk BlueBird incubating eggs Kent Nest zilch! Herons are preening & standing tall - that nest just doesn't have too much room anymore!!!
Two of the San Jose falconettes fledged today. They actually have people on the ground following them to make sure they are okay. They send out a fledge alarm and people come to help.
Lolly, I'm not sure which is more gorgeous, your grandsons or your yard! Thanks for finally sharing. Question: do you leave your caladiums in the ground year round or do you have to dig the bulbs up? I love them, but don't have the time to dig them up in the fall.
I didn't think about how they would need one, but, especially in a big city, so many things could happen. I was surprised when I read that they needed help following them.
HELLO, back from zoo, nothing new on Mei, this meeting was just to get things ready in case we have a birth.....1st shifts will be from 4 to 7 at night, and then once her hormones go in the right direction, it will be 24/7...but there is a 48 hour window, if her hormones spike and nothing happens, it means she had a pseudo-pregnancy...this happened last year, so they only had one 24 hour shift before they knew it was over.....everyone was teasing Lisa Stevens, the panda curator about the possibility of twins and how it would really shake things up

Morning, all!
Good Morning Jim ( : Are you sleeping any better?
I LOVE PEONIES!!
Blogger cop just gave me one of those horrible messages AFTER I didn't copy & save my message. Too early on a thread to have to do that!
Was just saying that it is bright breezy and less humid today! Should be very nice weather. We didn't get the rain as predicted for yesterday.
Safe journey up the road Helen!
Don't strain your eyes, Sharon!
Dana - what is the status of your
baby BB's?
good question, Jim, not being a technical person, don't know, but probably not enough for this 6 year old PC:(, hubby brought laptop done for me, and evidently it was working, but he did not bring antenna for my wireless mouse, and I'm not adapt and doing the keyboard thingy, and the computer was in the room where one of my granddaughters was sleeping, so did not get a chance to see how it worked.

And I just got my live feed back. Pic has been gone for a while but is back now.
What a wonderful experience, Dana. I have never had a bluebird to nest here. May try to put up another nest box this Fall. The BB's are sooo special.
My live feed is still a mess.
Have been watching the OK eaglet that is left in the nest. It "flies" to one edge to the other. One time it sat on one of the little sticks sticking out from the nest. I held my breath...afraid the stick was going to break.
Going to go eat breakfast on the patio. Comfortable now, but will be really hot again today.
Awww, Dana...so glad you got to see them fledge!
Dana - Your BB watch turned out well!
I wonder if the Robins are still in the nest at Iris' door.
I love the Spring and new birth we can watch.

Wow, she was almost at the camera that time. Maybe she wiped out the web!
Food fight! Have a safe trip, Helen.
Parent in nest...think it was empty taloned! Kids voicing their displeasure!
Sharon, she was facing the cam....she need to face right or left!!
I was hoping that Buddy's biopsy report was back & they knew what
they were trying to treat.
I wonder if Pearl could be thinking that it would be a beautiful day to take to the sky
Anyone else having problem with blogger - just ate another one of my comments... gave me a dreadful error screen.......
Hasn't swallowed any of my posts yet Jo, but running slow....
Thank you Deb truly

Trying to figure our why the 2nd one bothers me.
Comical the way our 2 eaglets are keeping an eye on whatever it is that Pearl is eating. lol Pearl is hopping with food in talon! Not too graceful!! lol
What does the live feed show the 3 eaglets are doing now?
The 3 eaglets are just being still in the nest. One at noon, one down around 6 and the other in between. They are just looking out & feathers are being blown ....
My live feed keeps fading in & out

I bet it is the raft, I can see through the bottom. I just rewound it to look closer.
still don't know if she is pregnant yet, Jo, will probably get the lastest update tonight at meeting
Looks like everyone is getting a bite of lunch.
Deb, it sure looks like a boat close to the loon nest, I've seen the raft and this doesn't look like it, it keeps moving left to right and back again...loon looks mad.
I just checked Larry's blog and it is a swimming raft that I saw. Thanks, Jo! He said the storms have moved it closer than they normally have it.
food delivered to PA FALCON NEST, 3 went running for it, one stayed in hatch box??
Ok, maybe it isn't the raft if you've seen it before. I thought the loon looked upset, too. I thought I saw a paddle once, too. I wonder if someone is taking pictures.
wonder why it moves so far back and forth when current is only going one way
I would hope that no one would be that close, and stay that long.
There was a cantankerous guy in a boat with a dog that was too close & stayed too long pretending to fish!
Larry's blog is interesting to read.
HELEN - Was there any bridge construction going on over the bay?
I read that, Jo, he always has great updates, and observations
Our adult and eaglet are still eating
I have no idea what it is
Did anyone see what was brought in
Larry said that the raft is anchored in place, but the storms were strong enough to move the anchors. That would explain why it is floating around like that. I wish we could see more of it.
No Jo,, they had the cones nearby, and the speed limit was down to 45, but saw no workers, think they might be doing it a night, because the big lights were nearby.
I only made one stop for gas, and made it home in about 3 hours.
Is tonight your first Panda Watch class, Helen?
Heading to the O's game tonight
All have a great evening!!
Have a good time Paula!
Since they broke their losing streak you may see a good game!!
UPDATE: May 28 2008, 3:00pm
by Dr.
As a result, the healthy right side is literally pushing/curving the upper beak to the left.:(
So I wish it were as simple as Remove the growth & give Buddy an artificial beak like Beauty got
They are feeding him a lot & he is gaining weight. I hope they can all get their heads together & come up with a way to help the little guy!
Thank you Mother Nature
for NOT letting any of our 3 eaglets or our Liberty & Belle go through any of these scenarios that have touched the other nests!
MEGAN How many peonies did you cut today?
I don't know, sounds like a real problem for the little guy. Hope they can help him. Gotta go back out and plant in the garden, and its time to check the peonies again...... c u
lol.. JO I have cut 103 this morning and it looks like there may be close to that many to pick now..
thanks for the update on Buddy, Megan...
Must go see about what is to be eaten for dinner.... I know my frig is pretty bare here at the end of the month.

TTUL...off to the ZOO:)
Get us the scoop on Mei, Helen!
TTUL
I'm happy about it too, Sharon!
Something just wasn't the same around here for the past couple of days!!
loL
Off to get supper started....
What beauties these babies are sitting on the side of that nest!
Wanda, I have to say I am inclined to agree with you!
Our babies are making a mental list of where they will travel to from there!
10 days and counting until the nest visit!
I agree with you Wanda - At least give the little guy a chance and don't let him suffer with the growth when you can remove it!!!
Pearl really casts a long shadow
It took me a while to figure out
what it was across the nest....
OUCH
The mass is also being scrubbed daily with iodine to slow its growth and help keep any open wounds clean.
Does it sound to you like they may already have the autopsy results and are just waiting for authority to release the info..........???
BBL
Going out to water some potted plants
Yes, that is what it sounds like to me. That might also explain why they are taking more blood samples--the results came back inconclusive. Is that the right word?
Go here for more information on Buddy. It has been determined that he has Avian Pox and will need surgery to remove the growth:
Buddy update
Thanks for the update, Deb. He would have died if they hadn't taken him from the nest. So at least he has a chance now.
It is very sad for Buddy, I hope the surgery is successful.
Okay, I have done that which was requested! Now, I am really new to this so please be patiet and excuse mistakes. I have created a blog!!!!! Yes, I finally did it!!
More to come when the caladiums are all up and open.
Wow- nice Lolly, your gardens are beautiful! love the gazebo and the grandkids are adorable.
Thanks! I would be your number one customer if I lived in your area.:)
lol..thanks- back outside to work, got a couple of hours of daylight left and a little more energy.
Your yard is beautiful. Lolly. I wish mine looked like that!
Thank you Deb! The yard is my biggest interest aside from family. I spend a lot of time out there. Jack is always saying "I have a d---- good gardener."
Lolly - Your gardens are just beautiful. Thanks for the pictures.
Hey gang! Anyone remember me? I started a new job about 3 weeks ago, and I can't get on the computer during the day anymore. And I'm too tired at night to do much. I hope everyone is well. When are our trio schedule to take flight??
Hi Sunny! Having a get together on June 7th Saturday to visit the nest
The oldest should be ready within the week or so to take off!
Any chance you and Myron are free oh the 7th? Dinner at the Rumsey around 4:30-5:00.
Feel free to email any updated address for you.
Is your new job still close to home?

Herons are preening & standing tall - that nest just doesn't have too much room anymore!!!
Parent in our nest. Think it is Lib. He is eating. One eaglet hoping back and forth.
I found a deer in the PA woods!
Whatever parent is eating sure seems tough.
Parent left.
Hope our 3 know that birds aren't allowed to fly after dark...
Deb - PA falcons have the same type of service once they fledge... the
ground crew just in case needed.
I didn't think about how they would need one, but, especially in a big city, so many things could happen. I was surprised when I read that they needed help following them.
Eagle at Kent 1.
Loon is off her eggs, they are a pretty brown.
DON'T FORGET - PECKIN' PEARL'S 11 WEEK BIRTHDAY IS TOMORROW!!
HELLO, back from zoo, nothing new on Mei, this meeting was just to get things ready in case we have a birth.....1st shifts will be from 4 to 7 at night, and then once her hormones go in the right direction, it will be 24/7...but there is a 48 hour window, if her hormones spike and nothing happens, it means she had a pseudo-pregnancy...this happened last year, so they only had one 24 hour shift before they knew it was over.....everyone was teasing Lisa Stevens, the panda curator about the possibility of twins and how it would really shake things up
SPLIT...SPLIT... SPLIT!!!
