she was inseminated on the 19th of March....gestation is 3 to 6 months, usually the embryo floats til it attaches....but once it does, than it is only 40 to 50 days til birth....they do weekly hormone tests and sonograms if Mei wants too....but she is showing signs of nesting and is refuses to eat her beloved carrots, BUT, the same signs happen if it is a false pregnancy.....Bottom line is we wait and see.
Morning Suzanne, Mits and Wanda, Good to have you back Suzanne. Missed you yesterday. Mits hope we hear about the Woolong pandas today. Wanda those little pandas just seem to show up.
was watching GMA this a.m. and they were talking to someone who had visited the Chengdu province and saw pandas...so don't think we wwill know for awhile....
Ceil, I think I do recall that it is not until near time for birth that we know for sure that pandas are pregnant. It is so exciting. How long is the gestation period?
I was wondering how the pandas made out after the earthquake. Nobody is saying on the news. Sorry, but that's the first thing I thought of when I found out where it was! Poor guys, hope they're all alright!!! Morning, Ceil. Good to be back.
The area is also the refuge for much of China's panda population. The fate of the 130 pandas housed at the Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center was unknown, Xinhua reported.

A top U.S. aid official said Beijing had not yet requested assistance
Morning, Sharon. Beautiful Indigo Bunting! Never did see mine again. if he's around, he's not out and about much. Mocking bird has made himself at home, see him everyday. And saw a new one Friday, a Rose breasted Grosbeak, another beautiful bird. Specially in flight!!!
Suz, the male grosbeak has the red and the female has bright yellow under her wings that you can only see when she flies. She is such a beautiful bird and even eating, she moves with such grace.
Thanks, Sharon. I had the male, he was beautiful! He was flying to my chipped sunflower feeders when I came home Friday. Had to stay in the car and watch him for a while.
Good Morning all eagle watchers Today is going to be a great day, The sun is out and it is going to get up to 70 today.I checked on my eagles yesterday and all is well they made it through the high wind and rain that we had over the weekend and there are still three eaglets.I watched them pick and eat food that the adults had left in the nest. They were both gone hunting for more food to keep them happy and full. They are growing fast and have feathers and are all about the same size. Take care Indiana Nesting Eagles----Dave
Thanks, Helen. Can't get mine to come up, and the still pic is frozen too. Darn. Sharon, didn't know they liked suet too. I had to fill my suet feeders for the mockingbird, which he loved. But the $*&)(* starlings also love suet, darn birds! Used to only have 2 or 3, which is a very low count for me...till I filled the suet feeders. Now the darn things are all over the place! But so is the mockingbird, so take the good with the bad, I guess. I have a suet feeder down by where I feed the finches, but have lint for the birds in it now. But since that's where I saw my rose breasted grossbeak, maybe I'll put suet in it this afternoon. Morning, Dave. Sounds like youre babies made it through that horrible storm this weekend.
Great day it is going to be! Sun is shinning and Live Feed Up/Running & Jim you are up & about at a great time in the morning. Did as I promised Suzanne yesterday and came right to the blog to say Hello. Anxious to see Dave's pics & read Lisa's comments. BRB
Concern for human life and panda life in China.. SD Zoo says... NEWS UPDATE (May 12, 3:30 p.m.): The initial information we received from Wolong cannot be confirmed. We are still awaiting news regarding how the panda center is doing.
Helen - I know you will keep us posted as you receive info from DC Zoo
Hi Deb and Lolly. Didn't mean to ignore you, but wanted to post about the baby stork. Thought I saw one this morning, but wasn't sure. Babies babies everywhere! How cool is that.
Deb, are you talking about the stork babies? Or the jackdaw babies? Which has 2. The jackdaw has 4 babies now, and the stork has at least one, but I'm thinking two too.
Hi, eagle lovers. I have been so busy lately - no time to blog. I do check the video several times everyday. I miss reading the blog. It's too bad when work interferes with recreation! But, work is my way to pay for the gas that gets me to work to pay for the gas.... Election Day in WV - I voted last Thursday. Early voting is a good thing! Would you believe it - it was 34 degrees and snowing when I got to work yesterday. I continue to see ospreys along the river a couple of times a week. Have only seen 1 adult bald eagle - about 3 weeks ago and a possible juvenile last week. Must get back to work now. Just wanted you to know I'm still around and hope all is well with all of you. I'll definitely be on here more when fledging time gets here.
First Chick hatched In the early morning hours of May 13th, many stork fans followed the hatching of the first chick. At first, only peeping noises could be heard. Later, a stork removed the shells, and a short time later the little head of the teeny one of about three ounces (80 grams) could be seen. Great joy rules among the stork friends the world over, and everyone hopes for healthy and strong offsprings of Cico and Luna.
I DEFINITLY saw two, two heads up and bobbing. This is a for sure, nothing iffy about it. One was up, Mom was doing some nestorations or something, I was watching carefully, then up pops the second head.
Well that was a tease. Mom came to visit the kids and they thought she was bringing food. Guess she just came to check on them, so they're gonna take a nap. Little cuties!
THANKS, DEB. I feel better now. The GE stork guy needs to update his update. We have 2 babies. Sure glad of that, I was thinking my eyes were really going bad!
Time for me to hit the road. All have a great eagle/panda day. Enjoy the sun while we have it. Heard last night this is the only day this week we (PA) won't have rain. UGH! They are saying it may not rain Sunday. Sure hope they're right on that, at least. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
I just happened to look and see her there as I have been on the phone & in my emails. I wonder if it is just pure bird instinct or if she really knows that that is where her "free bird" life begins! lol
Watching the Loon cam... I just think she has the most beautiful feathered pattern. 2 eggs hatch & then we'll see those little ones riding around on her back! That's the part I like!
Going to go do something physical now I've been sitting here most of the morning..... Still have some planters that need my attention & I sure don't have any green thumbs to brag about!
BEIJING (AFP) - More than 80 giant pandas at China's most famous panda park, the Wolong centre, were safe and well following a huge earthquake that struck the area, state press said Tuesday.
A total of 86 giant pandas at the park did not sustain injuries following a 7.9-magnitude quake that hit the southwest province of Sichuan, where the park is located, Xinhua news agency said.
Previous media reports had put the number of pandas in the centre at 130, suggesting some of the endangered animals may still be unaccounted for, but Xinhua's report made no mention of the figure

Helen, when will we know if a baby panda is on the way?

If Pearl spreads her wings, she will knock Tiny right off the edge.

More than two dozen British and American tourists who were thought to be panda-watching in the area also remained missing.
