Good morning Lori and all my eagle friends! Went to bed at 9 after a 2 hour nap from 4-6. Not feeling as achy today but my nose is still stuffed. It's really just a cold - not to worry!

Can't see the nest tree on the cam page - all gray.

Lori, another day, another test right? Onward and upward! I hope you like your clinical placement - do you get any say in where you go?

Sorry to hear that Bev is still doing poorly and no news on Shannon.

Lolly, still no word from the doc? Surely that's a good sign!

Both of our dogs get to lick the plates!

Jo, hope Marvin feels better today!

Have a great day all!

Good Morning Eagle buds

JUDIE or anyone have you heard of the Jennifer Mee (the hiccup girl from years ago here in FL) the jury selection started The guy that they were accused of killing worked with me at Walmart he worked the third shift I didn't know him but just in passing Don't know if it will be televised

SHIRLEY congratulation on both wins of last evening ball game and bowling and try not to get frustrated its just a game Have fun and don't be so hard on yourself

Memories I use to walk to the ice cream store up the street at the light and to school also those where the good ole days The song comes to mind I ride by bike I roller skate don't drive no car LOL You all know that song We had a road in front of Hacks house we would ride and skate when Mr Hacks truck wasn't parked there Don't remember a lot of my childhood but I do remember that or maybe its just the pictures that help

Angie posted pic on fb and I shared on my wall not for sure if you can see all 17 pic I made the two public but the album is Angie friends so let me know and I can download them and post that way They have gotten a lot done

LOLLY I also had cats that loved ice cream and they also begged for it or for any food I should say

LORI please don't beat yourself up over the grade you still passed and I can understand that it doesn't make you feel any better with half the class failing but you will do good and get through this Chin up young lady you are giving your all and that is what counts

barelt see the tree but can see a MT attic

I know what you mean with shorter days JANET.
I still keep the windows open and have not yet turned on the heat... I expect that to change with the shorter days.

checking back in. have some extra time this morning.

YES LORI: every single test cannot be wonderful. there are going to be a few that don't measure up to our expectations. so let it go. let go of what you cannot control. you passed. and besides, IF you aced every single test, then there would be NO reason for school because you would know everything! enjoy the process. don't berate yourself. it will all be okay. look at the bigger picture my friend!!!!

HODA: yes, fall begins this weekend. it has been such a cool, wet summer, i think is why i'm having a hard time letting go of it this year. normally i love the fall. we are still very gren here, which is unusual. the rain has helped with that. i even have some tomatoes growing. hoping a few ripen before it really gets chilly.

still have unripened figs as well.

JUDYE: that road you used to ride on, and me too, but only up to hack's....so busy over the past few years. the ice cream place down the road to the right....near black jack... was now a liquor store....lol. things change don't they?

i wonder sometimes what is becoming of mom and dad's place since that man bought it. i may run flowers up to mom and dad later this year, for both of us. but i do not think i am ready to see the house.

i am so glad angie and carl have a nice "new" home. that makes me happy.

i am grateful. i do have family that loves me and accepts me. and i have a plethora of friends that know me and love me. after many years of being what i "should" be, i no longer do that. i am who i am. and i know gratitutde.

i am happy.
i am light.
i am love.

may all beings be happy and free and may i contribute to that happiness and freedome in some way by may actions, my thoughts, adn my words. Namaste.

love to all

Good morning.

Chilly here. Have put on a flannel shirt.

For those not feeling well, including furry friends, please feel better quickly.

Congratulations to Cyclone Shirley's team on the win and congratulations to Hunter's team.

Thinking of Lori and how well she's doing. So proud of her.

Judy, great that Jordyn is enjoying her new home. I am not familiar with the Mees case. Will look it up.

Off to find coffee. Have a wonderful morning.

Good morning,

Cool here this morning. Last night was certainly football weather.

Bowling frustration: All of the practice and all of the lessons have not improved my score one bit. I think it might have helped me figure out what I am doing wrong. Maybe. This has truly become a challenge for me.

Will not practice bowling today. Will wants to shop for some new shrubbery. Old ones have been dug up. I also want new lattice around the bottom of the front porch.

stronghunter said...

On a positive note--because of my bowling handicap, my score has helped our team score.

stronghunter said...

Yes, Judie. It is time to get out the warm clothing.

Lolly said...

Warm clothing? Really?

Oh, Good morning! 81 here and going up. Another day in the low 90's and muggy!!! Yesterday the sweat was pouring off of me while in the yard,

Lolly said...

Jack has finally called the doctor and they are supposed to call back. BIG goof on the doctor's office as far as I am concerned.

Armadillo has been doing just a little scattered damage to the lawn and flowerbeds each night. Jack set up the cameral last night facing towards a large armadillo hole. LOL He got pictures of our neighbor mowing!!! Will try again tonight. The camera has time and date, so he is thinking it would be good to know at what time the armadillo emerges from his hole. However, armadillos make lots of holes, so we are not sure he is even in that hole, Jack makes fun of me. When I find a hole I fill it in and sometimes put concrete edging over it.

Lolly said...

Typo on camera. LOL

Yeah--warm clothing, Lolly. I just ordered a stadium blanket for Kathryn's birthday. Just got that idea last night, so I think it might not get here by her birthday on Sunday, but maybe by the time she really needs it.

I figure we'll go out to her favorite restaurant on her birthday...that usually means a trip to The Melting Pot, which will cost more than what I paid for the blanket.

Hope to see an update on Shannon, also.

Jo, good day for Marvelous Marvin to be out and about. Glad he's feeling better.

Lolly, sure hope Jack's doctor calls pronto.

Nice gift for Kathryn, Shirley. No doubt she will be both happy and grateful. Have you ever asked about a bowling approach called "spot" bowling? Has to do with where to stand to throw the ball.

BBL

Lolly said...

Hmmm?? Stadium blanket. That reminds me. Have been saving denim for years and years ago even cut squares. Planned to make a denim quilt. I made one for us years ago. Nothing warmer than that sitting in a cold stadium and plan on making one for Laurel and one for Michael, Guess now is the time to make Laurel's.

Lolly said...

The quilts are really cute especially with decorated pockets. Some of the squares already cut have pockets from Laurel's jeans when she was little.

stronghunter said...

Hadn't heard the term "spot bowling," Judie, so I looked it up. Yes, it is one of the things I discussed with the bowling teacher, and it's one of the changes I made over the summer. Maybe it will eventually help. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

stronghunter said...

Sounds like a wonderful idea, Lolly. I am sure Lauren will appreciate a stadium blanket, and one made by you from scraps of her childhood clothes will be very special--and with pockets yet!

I ordered one from Land's End after looking at lots and lots of them. It is water resistant on one side and comes with straps for carrying.

I didn't want one with a team logo. This year, Hunter's team is the Jets, but that will likely change next year if he continues to play.

stronghunter said...

On the bowling--my teammates have said that I should stand to the right of center since the ball usually drifts off to the left, but sometimes it drifts off to the right, so the real solution is to get in control of things so there's no drift.

Mema Jo said...

Shirley - sounds like it's a Wrist Control problem. Some rollers can twist that wrist and make a Spinner and it hits right on the king pin. Me - It would be a gutter ball for sure! lol

Wrist control--that is what my teammates say, Jo. I did ask the teacher. She never did confirm that it's what the problem is, though. She did not seem to see a problem. Might try to get back with her, but not easy to do when Hunter is in school.

Lori O. said...

Goodness, lots going on here.

Good afternoon everyone!

SANDI, I'm glad you're feeling better. It just stinks having a cold...glad you got some rest and maybe that'll help get rid of it.

SHIRLEY, wish I had some bowling suggestions for you. Sounds like you're doing all the right things, with lessons and all the practice and the team. Oh, congrats on the win!

Thanks to ALL of you for your words of support, but I'm afraid the drama continues today. I couldn't even begin to write all of it, but after yesterday's dismal test, there was today's test on skin and the whole system and all the workings. I thought I had it aced and was feeling very confident last night and early this morning, then I took the test. Did not pass with a 68%....class average was 61! As Kate told me yesterday, doesn't that tell you, or them, there's something majorly wrong. There were at least 16 (I counted) questions that were never addressed in any of the books, or in lectures. I asked the instructor about it and she said it's right here and pointed it out in the book...well, what she pointed out was a blurb on a chart about Athlete's Foot ... I said, that's not Tin_____ whatever was on the test on those 4 questions, she said - it's right there. I was controlled, but very upset and said you mean I study this word for word and take notes, and make flashcards and try my hardest to get good grades, and you throw in questions that were never even talked about -- she said, tin____ whatever is the medical term for Athlete's Food, you should have looked it up. I'm still furious.

At lunch there were 13 of us standing around talking about these last two tests, and today's teacher, in particular, and every single one of us -- there's 29 in the class now -- failed! I think there is something majorly wrong - they are teaching to the test....
The way the people who administer the licensing test want them to teach it. We have a huge test everyday so we can get used to taking these kinds of tests... URGH.

I'm sorry to complain, but today was just over the top. Also, turns out that my Skills Day has been delayed (thank you, God) more time to study all those things. I got my assignment at I will be close to home --- in a long term care facility for I think it's six weeks, but that won't start until - well, I need to look at my calendar. What a crazy day. So my uniforms are all ironed and ready to go - yay for that!

Thanks for listening to me. I love you all so much.

LOLLY, hope you get a call back from the doc's soon. The denim quilts sound fabulous. How warm and cozy.

HODA, JUDIE, JANET and KAY, thanks for your special love...you are loved in return.

Prayers for the Riffe family, Bev and Mattie. Hope Sharon finds some peace.

Gosh, you guys are the best...thank you so much for being here for me.

Mema Jo said...

Ahoy Steve!

New thread before you leave for the day?

Sandi said...

Good afternoon all!

Oh dear, no good news about Shannon and more bad news for the family Riffe!! Sending prayers and positive energy their way!

Lori, all I can say is, if I gave a test and 45% of my class failed it, I would be saying that I hadn't done a very good job of teaching the concept. I would be re-teaching the material and then re-testing! Sadly, some teachers believe their job is to simply disseminate information and, if the students don't "get it," it's the fault of the students. I feel so badly for you b/c I know you can't try any harder than you already are!

Need to run some errands - BBL!

Mema Jo said...

Lori - as I am sure Judie will have input on this 'failure' subject -
I also know that if a certain percentage fails - there is something wrong with the teaching.
I sure hope this is addressed by someone higher then the instructor.

I am happy you have your assignment..
You will do exceptionally well I'm certain about that!

stronghunter said...

Interesting, Lori...you might be onto something. Teachers do get pressured to produce good test results, and sometimes they get so involved in testing that they forget to teach. It's not all their fault. The system is going that way right now.

Testing takes a lot of time and puts a lot of pressure on everyone.

Do you all ever go over the tests and discuss the answers and how they can be gleaned from the material? Is it possible to request something like that? If not during class time, maybe a special session?

I do not know how your school works, but when I was teaching college students, I got evaluated by them. I felt obliged to address their concerns. They were paying for the education.

I also found when I was in grad school that it was helpful to request a meeting with the teacher. In one particular class, I was getting B's and wanted A's, so I asked the prof what he was looking for and he told me. I made the adjustments and I got the A. Of course, this was someone I respected to begin with. That helped.

stronghunter said...

I agree with Sandi. If I had such a high failure rate, I would be re-teaching and re-testing.

Mattie and I are home. The tests showed her gallbladder is normal. They referred her to see Dr. K. Patel tomorrow or Friday. I called Dr. K. Patel's office and they don't take Mattie's insurance and we would have to pay $125 to be seen tomorrow. Not sure about you guys, but I really don't have $125 laying around. More will be revealed.

As for my sis, Beverly, they just took her for her EGD. Tom is there with her now. I am tired! Now back to Princeton to carry the message to some still suffering folks.

Lori, is this program intended to prepare you to test for a nursing license? While I am troubled by what you describe, I wonder if the intensity/thinking without direct instruction is because nurses and doctors make life/death decisions and they want you to be as competent as possible. None of us want nurses/doctors/veteranarians who don't know what they're doing. Just a thought.

Off to put my fee up for a few.

LORI it is tough of that there is no doubt.
That they are trying to reshape and remold your mind and your level of comfort with all things human health, is of no doubt.
Tell you car poor friend to hang tough.
I think you are doing great.
It is not just knowing the text book stuff.
Your method of learning is terrific and keep it up.
Do not get discouraged... All your work will pay off.
Don't resist that there is something else going on.
I feel certain that there is.
As JUDIE pointed out and I agree with her the public has high demands and high expectations of our health care providers.
They are making a professional out of you. Tough yes!
150% Commitment is what it is about. It is a life style not a job! I think they know that and want to make sure you know that also.
All that being said, I have more than a 150% trust and faith that you will make it through. You will hang tough. Complain all you want we are here for you. Then chin up and buckle down and get back to it, your studying is your power. Never forget that. NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

Lori, I thought of an example I'll share. When I had my left carotid cleaned out and was in ICU, a young nursing student was there. The nurse was quizzing him. Okay, back to put my feet up.

stronghunter said...

Very sleepy now.

Bridge was fun. We had a little wine and a lot of laughter. An old friend from way back joined us. It was good to see her again.

I did not win, but that is okay.

Lori,
One thing I found helpful in grad school, especially when it came to the critical thinking tests was my study group. We got together and combined our ideas. It was interesting how different people approached the same study question.

I have a tendency to throw out ideas without necessarily knowing how to put things into the best order. Someone else would grab my idea and say, "Yes, that's good, and here is how it all fits together." Teamwork got us through some of the tough stuff.

Saying good night to all. Best wishes for rapid healing and good health. God bless.

Good morning eagle pals!

It's Thursday. Today I go to the local senior center for four hours then have to do a paper on a person I'll do an interview with there. Who knows, we may play Bingo! I'm expecting it to be a good time, except the writing the report part. lol

SHIRLEY, thank you so much for all the great ideas you've offered me about studying and school. Sounds like you had it tough at times, too. I do appreciate it. Glad you got to see an old friend at Bridge last night.

SANDI, I hope you're feeling back to your normal self today. Have you been working with the cold? That would not be fun...feeling puny and having to do the daily grind. Anyway, blessings for a renewed and healthy day!

Mom and Dad come home from their camping trip today. It's been a quiet week in this house. Love them dearly but they always have at least two competing TV's going, and the phone rings off the hook.

The little black kitten is a boy - I found out as I snuck up on him yesterday and got to hold him. He is probably only 4 - 5 weeks, so it's great that the orange mama adopted him. It was funny this morning. He's too tiny to eat the food out of the bowl, so he just climbs up and inside it and starts chowing down! He brings me smiles. Very cute.

Wishing everyone a great, blessed day with love, light, lots of smiles and joy.

Prayers for Shannon, BEV and Mattie.

Sandi said...

Hey, Lori!

Yes, I've been going to work every day. It's just a cold.

Have fun at the senior center - maybe you'll even win at Bingo!

Good Morning Eagle Buds !!!!

Reading back I see prayers are still in order for Shannon and the Riffe family ! I'm on it !

LORI, others here who are far brighter and closer to the teaching n' testing world have given you expert advice. I'm just thinking they are trying to weed out the faint of heart. Don't let em' snag you in that net ! You can do it ! I'm glad you have your assignment at the "long care facility". I think you'll learn more in that 6 weeks than you can in weeks of classroom drills. Big {{{{{{{{LORI}}}}}}}}}'s for you !!!

Oh, that little black boy kitty brings a smile to my face ! So glad he came your way, LORI !!!

LOLLY, happy news re:Jack's test !!!

Another good day for Penny and me to be outside ! SIL Hugh installed his expertly made gate on my deck last night. I can now turn Penny loose for fresh air and sunshine with no worries about her escape or about some evil predator comin' to get her. ☺

Love and prayers for all !

Bev from FB - Good morning. My EGD showed severe gastritis and esophagitis, which sux but could have been worse. Hopefully with the right belly meds I can go home today or tomorrow. Still feeling pretty rotten.
Then 1/2 hr ago Bev said: Going home today. Very grateful to be in the solution. Thanks so much for all the prayers!

Back to FB - no update on Shannon yet.

Mattie - Mattie is okay. She won't go back to school until tomorrow. They want her to see a GI doc so we have to find one that will take her insurance.

Still praying for all the Southern Delegation and especially that Sharon stays in the Well status.

Lolly said...

Good morning! Thanks, Jo, for bringing over the Southern Delegation updates. Was thinking of doing just that.

So very glad the little black kitty was adopted. Too young to be weaned, needed a momma!

Another hot, humid day and then supposedly we get RAIN tomorrow. Will believe it when I see it. In the meantime out to water pots.

Hoda, yesterday I reapplied Tung oil (like varnish) to the edge of my kitchen counters, window sill, and kitchen table. I also got down and scrubbed baseboards and after that attacked the kitchen ceiling fan. The fan was yucko! Today I apply a second coat to the table. Years ago we purchase an unfinished table. We did the finish on it. Love my kitchen table!

good thursday afternoon. i have been asleep. apparently i have had a virus. left work early with severe gastrointestinal upset yesterday and ahve been asleep since. got up long enough to take care of things i had to do, but nothing more.

stronghunter: if the wrist is perhaps the problem, i see soem bowlers use a wrist brace?

just a thought.

dearest lori: breathe!!!! again, you cannot possibly know everything nor ace every test. you know what i stunk at and was in abject fear of every week? muscle tests. to have an instrutctor say: quadratus lumborum, and i had to point it out on a real body, and label the origin and insertion points .... i really stunk at it.

and written muscle tests...freaked me out.

and that's what i do every day now...

however, instrutors do need to instruct..not expect you to instruct yourself ..are there lectures? ..DOES she teach or just tell you what to study? ..this concerns me....and not just teach to the test. they need to help to prep you for the job that you are going to do..... you can only do your part....

what i'm saying it: look at the big picture. just take a deep breath and do your best. that's all anyone can ask of you. that's all you can ask of yourself! (((hugs))))

HODA: i was just teasing you. i know the newer cars talk. mine does not, thankfully. i'd have a word or two back with it. lol.

Good news from Lolly and Jack! :)

all right need to do a couple of things before i pick up the kid. funny, when i am down, nothing gets done. i really need a house elf (think harry potter).

love and hugs to all.

4 days down, one to go. This week has seemed SO LOOOOOONG!!! I think it's b/c I'm looking forward to going to visit Brian and Lynnis this weekend in WV. This will be the last time I see Brian before he leaves for that God-awful place the State Dept. is sending him to.

I have no idea what the weekend plans are except that we will NOT be at Sunfest in Ocean City! The reality is, even if we were home this weekend, we wouldn't go to Sunfest - too much traffic and congestion. I much prefer sleepy little Bethany.

I didn't see hummingbirds at any of my 3 feeders yesterday afternoon or evening and I haven't seen any since I got home today (I did see them on Tuesday, the 17th). I'm wondering if this cooler weather gave them the signal to head toward Mexico??

Hey all, I just noticed that there is a new message under the cam picture. It says, "The winter nesting season starts up again in Jan 2014." My apologies if someone already posted this.

stronghunter said...

I would have to get advice on a wrist support. The whole thing is quite confusing. All kinds of stuff about different releases...and oil conditions on the lanes.

They are not inexpensive, either.

My teammates have lots to say about how much oil is on the lanes, etc., etc.

so sad another the third in a half a year that a child was run over my parent on a lawn mower This child was 2 yrs of so sad According to the Ped ER dr it happens often

Last year they also said January for Camera it happened earlier.
I would presume they need to fix the cam before nesting season so as to not disturb the eagles.

Forgot to tell you. Jack put the cam by the largest armadillo hole, First night he got pictures of the neighbor mowing. Last night we got three pictures of a opossum! Wonder if it is living in the armadillo hole? LOL

Just talked with Laurel. Jacob has been walking the half mile to her school. All is going well. He has one intersection to cross that has a light, but no crossing guard. This week a counselor at Laurel's school asked if her 2nd grade son could walk with Jacob this week. Sure! They talked about that intersection and her husband is the one who installs buttons for pedestrians at intersections. So...they have already started the work on installing a button for the boys to press. Hip hip hurray!!! Oh, and the first day...the daddy of the second grader just happened to be working at the intersection at the time the boys had to cross. Love it!

Hello, gang! Have had to do a lot of reading!!!
Speaking of loony, I put some photos from yesterday in the Nook. Enjoy.
My gosh, it's reading like notes from a hospital ward! Prayers for Shannon, Bev, and Mattie. So glad Jack got a good report. Took long enough, didn't it?
I have heard of kidney stone patients getting them zapped in a water tub. Some kind of thermal or wave treatment & then they can pass pieces. Maybe depends on size.
I got Dr.(dermatologist) call to return for "Moh's" procedure on my nose. Something new~~~remove thin slice, maybe freeze, slice & dice, and examine while you wait. UGGH. Can be 1-2 hours. Appt. lady said I could be there for 6 hours! No way, Jose! I'm a 1/2 hour away from home!
Lori, sounds like something abnormal at your school, not the students! Hope that's resolved.
Hoda, you must have entered a future century with your rental car! Glad things are back to normal.

Ewwww--there's a big (3" diameter, legs & all) hobo spider loose in the house, in a corner of the living room! He galloped back there last night while I was running to get the broom to smash him with, and I'm not sure now whether he's still there! Will stay up late and wait and watch.

Good Red FRIDAY Morning everyone!

Finally, it's Friday for all the workers! Hip hip hooray!

I had a great time and wonderful experience yesterday at the senior center. Met some very nice people and got to help a few. I loved it. Played Yahtzee with them, too. And, escorted two of them home to the senior apartments next door. It was a lovely experience. Back to school today.

Went through one of my text books last night to mark all the instructions for all the demonstrations I have to perform for Skills Day on Oct 4. There's 23 different skills for this first skills day...everything from sterile hand washing to moving a patient from a wheel chair to a bed, catching them fall, bed bath, and the list goes one. Feel better now that I've organized it - now just have to find someone to practice on.

I got an assignment too, to take vital signs, including b/p on 10 people. I'm not too quick at the b/p yet. lol

LOLLY, Praise God for your rain! So happy for you. Made me smile thinking of you sitting there smiling at all the rain! Your landscape will be happy again!

HODA, how did your busy day go yesterday? I think you have a busy day everyday. :) So you've put aside your take it easy plan that you were doing a few months ago?
Love you!

SANDI, I'm so excited for you to see Brian this weekend. We'll all be praying for him, and the others with him, while he's gone. How's Bandit doing?

LORETTA, keep us posted on your MOH's procedure. Sounds simple, but we'll worry until we hear you're okay.

KAY, Big good morning hug to you! Are you and Penny enjoying this warm weather. I think ours will start to cool down again this weekend.

JUDYE, cute story about Jordyn and the carrots! What a doll she is.

Where have LYNNE1 and LYNNE2 the Queen been?

JUDIE, have a great day at the big school house. Your students are so lucky to have you! And, so are we! Big hugs.

Prayers for Shannon, Bev and Mattie. Glad they're doing better.

Have a glorious day all....love all of you, very much!

good RED FRIDAY morning to all!!!

LOLLY: I see the front that is heading our way must be giving you rain as well. :) hurray!!!!

LORI: thank you. I AM feeling much better this morning. Human even! I don't know what virus THAT was, but I slept probably close to 20 hours in less than 2 days.

Olivia went to ice skating last night.....and they put her on the harness and lift. Her private coach had her working it in for a few min and it was great. She has been wanting to try it. Her pal, Sabrina, who skates with the private coach after Olivia's session got to do the same thing. They rather look like puppets on a string...as they go to jump, the instructor literally pulls them a bit into the air. Its neat to watch.

Shirley: i have no advice regarding the wrist braces. s orry. i have seen folks use them, but it will take someone much more informed than me to guide you. i have to fight with my writst as well, esp when i get tired. i have to focus on keeping it straight down the lane. i do not throw a curve at all. but the information is out there and may be helpful to you.

and it may lower some of your frustrations!

i am so glad to be feeling human today and ready to rock. we went to red robin last night for dinner and much to my dismay they quit serving hot tea. bah humbug! :{
guess not many requests for it?

perhaps i can order hot water and bring myown hot tea bag?

okay, get ready for work time is upon me.

light, love, blessings, smiles and hugs to all. holding each of you in my heart and thoughts for a beautiful day!
