Mockingbird in Flight

Still picture of a mockingbird in flight. You can see the white on the wings when they fly.

JudyEddy said...

I forgot to mention the white on the wings duh me LOL
Sure was nice that we had a adult to oggle over this evening

JudyEddy said...

I think I have had the same mocking bird in my yard for years Live in the bush up front I love watching them

Hoda said...

Sure enough I do see that also why the tail and wings would be distinctive.
Thank you SHIRLEY for posting.

Hoda said...

JUDYE your clues to mockingbird ID were very helpful earlier on too. I am not sure I could see the white from the distance on the cam. Good to know and to see the picture SHIRLEY.

I am planning to visit my brother and his wife in Fort Collins. I have not seen them in years. The plans are not definite yet because Kathryn wants to join me, but she is not supposed to have a vacation this year.

However, she has been working very hard--at least 10 hours a day--60+ hours a week. Since she has been there, the company performance has increased greatly, and she has gotten a lot of credit for the difference.

I think she said that the shop where she works has moved up from 6th place out of 10 shops within the company to first place.

She knows they want to keep her happy. But it is hard to ask for a vacation when she is not really supposed to get one. I think she really needs a break, and I want her to go with me. Of course, Hunter would go too.

The last time I went to Fort Collins, Rus and Kathryn were small children. They came to Fredericksburg once when Will and Susan were children, and Jim has come alone several times.

stronghunter said...

We have mockingbirds in our yard. Sometimes they try to take over. I enjoy them. They don't come to the feeders, but sit on the very top of a tree or a roof and sing. They mock other birds or various sounds they hear.

Good evening to all!

Yes, it is ME that was curious about laptops and planes. I will indeed keep it with me. :) And yes, I am going to Michigan.

There are two reasons for going. The first and foremost reason, there are two ladies up there that I have been online friends with for 6+ years. I want to meet them..so making a Reiki class up there seems like the best way to do that! I can write it off as a business cost and have a little time with them as well!

Its been a great day. Hot. Humid. But it is july and what else can we expect. Yard work and pool.....

Reiki Share was tonight and I have this nice little gathering that shows up nearly every time... Its quite Lovely.

HODA: your gathering sounds like my kind of place. I wish I had more time to attend drum circles...it just sounds great.

JUDYE: stinks about the truck!!!! But remember what dad always said, oil is cheaper than a new truck/car...maintence is cheaper than a new vehicle.

Mockingbirds. I love them. They are ornrey...and we have tons of them around here. Brazen little things...

Watching David Allen Coe on the tv....boy is he rough looking! lol. I never knew what he looked like....

Well, hope everyone has a peaceful night rest....SED!!

Judie said...

JudyE, so sorry about the truck expenses. Never money we want to spend but we do need our wheels (and alternators).

Lori, so happy to know your parents are doing so well. Being interested in "doing" things is a really good sign. How's the mouth? Yours?

Hoda, very glad to know you all are having a super fun partay round your part of the country. Your life is full.

Shirley, what a nice plan you have. I do hope that Kathryn can get a few days away to go with you. Will do you both a world of good.

Not much accomplished here today. Still just so oppressive. Hate to move around. Did manage to sort of learn a bit more about using the stuuuuupid tablet. I just hate when a gadget is smarter than I.

Headed to the pillows early so the sandperson is packing a satchel. Will be on the way soon.

Restful sleep for all.

Hoda said...

Safe travels SHIRLEY. Let us know when you can actually go.

JUDIE...stay centred with the tablet. It is NOT smarter than you.

It is so hot I am considering swimming in the lake tomorrow. I almost jumped in after Dragon Boat practice today.

Ms Bookworm said...

Good Evening!

It was a little cooler here today, but the humidity was higher than the temperature. It did sprinkle a little, which helped.

We had to laugh at Emma this evening. After her dinner and trip outside, she got in Ken's face and just barked and barked! We asked if she needed to go out again, and no, that wasn't it. When she started barking at me, we finally figured it out. She was saying that Ken and she needed to go to bed--it was half-an-hour past their usual bedtime! We had been watching a movie, but we are postponing that until tomorrow now.
Emma was totally happy to go back to her bed. She's such a character! (a creature of habit, too, apparently!)

Well, think I'm going to go veg in front of the TV for a while. There's a fan out there, and it feels cooler than it does here.
Hope everyone has a fantastic night's sleep, with SED. Have said prayers for everyone. The porch light is on, and both security systems are enabled. God bless, and goodnight. I love all of you!

I'm sure you will master the electronic gadget, Judie.

Lori, I, too, was happy to read of your parents' adventures. How very nice they can travel again.

Hoda, you continue to amaze me with all of your activities.

Keep us updated on the Michigan trip, Janet.

Time for me to call it quits for the evening. George is already settled at the foot of my bed. Hunter and Kathryn returned from their Saturday adventures and all is quiet.

SED, everyone.

Good Sunday Morning Everyone!

After reading all the posts we sure are an active group - except for Judie and me and hot days! I just couldn't get going yesterday, though I did make a trip to WMart, the car wash and to the Dawg Wash for Dalai and RoRo's special kibble. Dal has pancreatitis and RoRo is on a special blend for the crystals in his urine. TMI? LOL

JO, hope you have a great time at the market today and get to see Megan. Please tell her we all say hello and hope she is feeling better. Hope her flowers aren't suffering after all that heat!

Today is supposed to be the day the heat breaks. Still haven't had any rain here though there was lots of loud thunder and bright lightening to the south of me. Dang, I wanted the rain!

SHIRLEY, hope you get to take your vacation to Colorado and Kathryn and Hunter get to go with you! It's such a pretty state.

Have a great day all.

Lori O. said...

Keep forgetting to ask is everyone is seeing lots more butterflies this year? We have more than ever this summer and it's just stunning. Besides the usual, and I don't know their names, a black one with white circles, smaller black and white with orange spots, lots of the big yellow/orange ones and the black with blue, too! Tons of the little white ones, also.

stronghunter said...

Good Sunday morning!

I do hope the heat breaks today, but that we do not have any violent storms.

Kathryn told me that the birds have been complaining that I have not been filling their feeders properly, so I took care of that this morning. Can't have unhappy birds. And I put out some peanuts for the squirrels. They were out there running on the fence. I enjoy watching the bluejays swoop down and grab the peanuts as well.

Kathryn has suggested that if we all go to Colorado, we'll rent a SUV or something roomy in Denver and drive to Fort Collins with something large enough to take everyone wherever we want to go.

We had fun driving into the mountains when we were there before. Kids from the East Coast get a kick out of seeing snow in the summertime. So do I.

stronghunter said...

I've seen a lot of butterflies, too, Lori.

My butterfly bush has recovered from the fire--it was a bit singed--and is blooming now. I will have to check it out.

stronghunter said...

The yellow/orange butterflies and the black with blue sound like swallowtails, Lori.

I went swimming in the lake! Yep that is what I did! Woke up it is hot. I put bathing suit on and went to the lake and swam and now I am chilled!!! Oh bliss oh joy! Did you get that I am cool enough to be chilled!!! Was in the water for half an hour sat and wrote for half an hour to dry off and now I am on my way to the co-op for blue berries and peaches with a stop at my favourite cafe for a vegetarian sandwich and an Americano!!!
I will ride my bicycle back to the park this afternoon to see Justin Trudeau. Pierre Elliott's son, and I hope Canada's next Prime Minister

Hoda said...

Kootenay Lake is Glacier fed lake, yet with all the heat we have had it is actually alright to swim in it.

LORI where I live the butterflies are plentiful I do not see an increase this year though.

SUV rentals are expensive SHIRLEY.
I see a need to be comfortable when travelling but my oh my do the gozzle up the gas!!! Are you planning on off road driving???

Safe travels and enjoy.

Hi all!

have been absent for the past few days, busy with company and playing with my new phone!

But ... THERE IS AN EAGLE IN THE TREE RIGHT NOW!!!! It's one of the adults with a smaller bird flying around over its head.

Later - hope everyone is well!

Lori O. said...

HODA, so glad you got cool with your swim in glacier water! WHOOOHOOO! You are a brave lady! Good for you!

I just came in from spraying bleach water on the north side of the house that gets all mossy...cleaned up very nice...and sprayed some more weeds through the woods. I know it seems I'm always doing this but if I do it all one year, it really controls it for the next three or four years, and I haven't done it several years! I have 4 acres of catching up to do.

JO, did you get to the Farmers Market?

Lori O. said...

Hello SANDI - thanks for the heads up! Hope you're having a great time with your friends...we miss you!

Lolly said...

Good afternoon! Home from church and getting ready to head outside to hold the hose for a while...it's what I do. LOL

Wish I had a cool lake to get into, Hoda. Sounds absolutely fantastic!

Annie seems okay today. Her eating is a little better. Is it possible she is so senile she forgets to eat? Putting her dish in the bathroom close to where she sleeps seems to be encouraging more eating.

Heading outside now before it gets hotter. 89 and heading up!

Thank you, Lori. This next month is the anniversary of her showing up at our house after being dumped. Poor little kitten! She has a strange personality but basically she has been the healthiest cat we have ever had, thus the long life.

Judie said...

Good late afternoon.

Still hot here but clouding over.

I see Hoda went swimming this morning. How cool is that? Speaking of cool, wonder if she experienced brownie induced chilling effects? Seriously, glad you got some relief Hoda.

Glad Annie is a bit better today.

All the butterflies must have migrated to other momster yards. Have only seen about three so far. Butterfly bush is in bloom.

Sandi, so very happy you and your guests are enjoying each other. Obviously, your guests are not Darth's cousins.

Lori and I are on the inactive list but we can hope Jo saw Megan and told her we hope she's all healthy.

Okay, off to make a cucumber salad for tonight. Leftover rotisserie chicken, an ear of corn, and cucumber salad. No muss no fuss no oven.

Oh, finally have all my teaching books and materials in my office. Darth, on the other hand, has an office floor covered with boxes, etc. just like it was before. Makes me sad.

Bye

Good Afternoon Eagle Buds !

Hmmmm, heat supposed to let up, eh ? I spose' it has a tad, but I sweated buckets sweeping the front porch and deck this morning. Had to take a second shower in order to join Julie and the guys at Whole Foods for a good lunch.

LORI, happy news re:your parental units !

SHIRLEY, wish I could tag along with you and Kathryn when you go to Ft. Collins. My oldest grandson is working on his Masters in Anthropology there now. He's Michigan born n' bred, but is loving beautiful Colorado !

LOLLY, Annie just keeps on tickin' and we're all so glad !

HODA, glad you have that refreshing lake to dive into ! Hard to believe this heat wave is stretching so far north. Another Trudeau as P.M., interesting and I hope you get your wish !

Anyone but me need a new bra or 2 ? Just ordered two Bali's from Bare Necessities and got a third one free. Free shipping if the order is over $70, too. Offer good til' the 23rd, I believe. Yep, you are my favorite support group, but now and then I need an assist you just can't provide !

good afternoon....its sunday, mid afternoon. its been a busy weekend.

yesterday was yard work, grass mowing, etc. tom worked on backfiling the ditch by the pool.

today, rain was in the forecast. wanted to take the boat out or go to the creek to swim, but a 70% chance of rain nixed that.

instead, it was sunny this morning. so i hit the pool before 9 for a bit. tom and michael started to work on re-doing the pathway to the pool. he is doing it all in the limestone rock that is present everywhere here. it really looks good.

i worked in the yard a little more, than started to scrape and paint the ramp to the house. it pretty much needs it every other year.

as for you all! wow!

HODA: swimming in a glacier fed lake! how awesome is that!!!!!! i'm coming to YOUR pool!!!!!

STRONGHUNTER; your trip sounds nice. i hope you all get to go.

LOLLY: holding space in positive light and thought for you and annie.

i need to fill my hummingbird feeders today. being lazy right now. well, no, letting my toesies dry. i painted them a few min ago and one must allow them to dry! :)

its been such a nice day. i've gotten a few things done. but have had some time to just relax as well.

starting dinner in a bit. then its time to get ready for work tomorrow.

i am getting a massage. we have a new therapist, she's been a therapist for 15+ years, but has never worked in a place like massage envy. the boss asked me to get a massage from her and give her some pointers. we have very stringent policies on things like draping and such. if you aren't used to it, it takes a little time to adjust to.

anyway, maybe take the boat out this week and start getting olivia ready for school. aug 1 start date.

hope everyone has a great afternoon!

Hi all! House is empty and quiet again! Had a great time with our Baltimore friends and then our niece, her husband, and her 2 stepsons came yesterday to spend the night until they could check into their place in Ocean City today.

Have been playing some with my new phone - I can see how people get addicted to these things! Very cool all the things a smartphone can do!!

Although I haven't posted in the past few days, I've done some speed reading in an attempt to keep up with everyone's goings-on. Let's see ...

Jo visited Megan at market today,

Dana is home from the beach (sadly, we weren't able to get together), =(

Lori is spraying bleach and weed killer outdoors and her folks are back to traveling and her dad is feeling much happier,

Judy is having truck trouble and is back to work,

Judie has her stuff all back in order and Darth doe not (no surprise - men!!),

Shirley is planning a trip out west,

Hoda went swimming in a freezing lake,

Annie isn't eating well,

Emma tells everyone when it's time for bed,

Olivia is going back to school soon and Janet is going to Michigan,

Joey is teaching freshman English this coming school year,

Paula is at the beach - not sure if it's Larry's place or hers,

Kay is buying bras online,

Lolly is getting ready to do some painting,

and the cam is currently down!

I'm sure I've missed some things but ...

ROYAL BABY WATCH:

ST MAry's LINDO WING has a policy of inducing mothers for delivery no longer than two weeks over the due date.
The official due date according to Palace Insiders, according to the Telegraph of London, was July 19th. Kensingtom Palace only said around the middle of July. Clarence House also said around the middle of July.
The obstetricians in LINDO WING of St Mary's believe the risk increases to the infant sustaining itself past the 40th week of pregnancy and encourage the parents to induce on the 21st week. They give dates for them to choose and very rarely allow them to go to 42 weeks.

So this is the 41st week of the Duchess Pregnancy...

If the babe comes after the Queen has gone to Scottland, the same protocol used...does the royal messenger have to go to Balmoral with the news?

Hoda said...

Actually not...Buckingham Palace announces.
The written note leaves St Mary's Hospital to Buckingham Palace. Depending on the time of the day they get in touch with HER MAJESTY.
Then the announcement is placed on the board in the court of Buckingham Palace.
Clarence House, Prince Charles Residence, said they would tweet the news.

Prince William has been known to choose how things are done and protocol, subject to HER MAJESTY'S approval could be changed. It happened for his wedding and she gave him permission to throw out the list of who is to attend and to create his own list...

Good late evening,

My sheets are in the dryer, so I will be up for awhile. Guess I could find other sheets in the closet, but I think I will just wait. It's what I do when George has a hairball issue. You do not want to know more. . .

Bras online . . . I haven't told you of my latest bra shopping experience. I went to Victoria's Secret. Had not visited their fitting rooms that I recall, at least not recently. Each room had a suggestive name on it. Inside was a bell for you to ring if you needed help. Plenty of young ladies running around with bras and suggestions.

Post-mastectomy ladies need special considerations, and I was pleased. I enjoyed carrying around the large pink shopping bag they gave me. Why not?

We will have to check on the SUV rental idea. Not sure if Kathryn can use her rental car connections in Colorado. Would be nice.

stronghunter said...

Thanks for the nice summary, Sandi.

stronghunter said...

Glad that Annie is doing okay, Lolly.

I just thought of another place where teachers with advanced degrees can pick up adjunct jobs. Military bases. I taught Marines for awhile and really enjoyed it.

I went to Quantico and found several offices representing different colleges. I was able to get a job with Park College teaching at Fort Myer. My class met from 5:00-10:00 PM one night a week. They said we should not try to lecture for five hours. No kidding.

I do not expect all of the colleges operate that way.

stronghunter said...

I looked at Park College's locations and noticed that they also had classes meeting at the White House. That would have been very interesting. I was at a middle school in Arlington, VA, although I was based at Ft, Myer, which is next to Arlington Cemetery. Park College's main campus is in Missouri.

We had a nice, quite weekend (Sat & Sun)
Spent time on the deck, staining, grilling and cold drinks. Getting close to having that staining done! We've had a new outdoor rug to put down for about 8 months now, anxious to see how it looks:)
Grilled some old steaks that we found in the bottom of the freezer (over a year old) and they were still very tasty, along with grilled squash and roasted potatoes, side dish of green beans. Trying to cook and eat more healthy. We have to cut out evening nibbling!!

Going to church early morning (if I can pull myself together)to get meal started and have 8 bags of clothes and a bunch on hangers.

Today was my granddaughter, Jillian's 28th birthday...the day she was born, she took my breath away...I fell so deeply in love with (((her)))!

Poor Dustin didn't get to come home this weekend, Karla told him gas was too expensive, now that she is not working, it doesn't fit into her budget!
I'm afraid that he will miss his girlfriend so much that he may want to drop out of school (he is a family person and misses everyone).

Ok, up and at um in the morning, so bed here I come now.
Good night with love and prayers for all~♥~

So pleased The Duke and The Duchess were admitted to St Mary's hospital without fanfare and that 90 minutes later the Palace let the media know!!!
Ha ha ha strikes my funny bone!

Lynne you all will probably know before I do. I am off to a full day and all I care about is that the baby and mother are healthy.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
I am sure she is thrilled.

Queen is due back to Buckingham Palace later this afternoon.
Labour was Not induced.
They travelled from Kensington Palace to the hospital without police escort and were admitted through a rear door.

Now I am off.

Have a terrific day.

Good Monday Morning Everyone!!!

Guess everyone is on Royal Baby Watch now. Hope it's a girl!

We went to dinner at iHOP last night and I drank a caffeinated diet Pepsi, and drank the whole thing....was up till three this morning. Think the caffeine so late is a bad idea. I usually limit it at noon!

SHIRLEY, hope Hunter has a fun day at the water park. Loved your story about shopping at Victoria Secret! LOL You go girl!

Haven't seen much from MARGY this weekend. Hope all is well.

Our weather is definitely cooler today...but we have an 80% chance of thunderstorms today and tonight. Could really use the water!

HODA, what's up for you today?

KAY, has your weather finally cooled and the rain stopped?

SANDI, hope you get all your errands done. Busy day for you.

Hope everyone has a GREAT and joyous day!

I LOVE US!

Glad you enjoyed the story about my shopping trip, Lori. Was a little hesitant to post it.

I think Hunter will enjoy the water park. We had thought he would be going to Kings Dominion today, but that is next Monday.

Good morning to all ♥
Seems like I say that every day but I sure do mean it.
Cooler temps really agree with me..
No plans for the day except to relax and enjoy whatever comes my way.

Shirley - that had to be exhilarating to carry around a pink bag from Victoria's. I bet you got some good stares!

BTW - Kathryn is thinking very good about the SUV - It will add on to the enjoyment once you get there.

Wanda it sounds like you are getting your deck all fancied up. Good luck with the hangers in the clothes closet today!

Lori - I drank coffee at IHops when we had dinner the other evening. I too realize that after 4:00pm I should stay away from the coffee - Tossed and turned most of the night.

I am sure Margy is having a good time with James and his company. However; I thought they ventured out westward for a while. Anxious to know
when the doctor releases her for light duty - Margy may have already told us - but I can't remember.

Very excited now about Dutchess Kate's labor starting. Just praying for a healthy delivery and healthy baby. That cam is great if you like watching the police guards but more so for the messages. First baby - early stages - they will probably be there through the night.
