I talked with a cousin in NJ who has been checking our Eagle Cam and reading some of the blog. She clicked on a link a few nights ago, and blotto! computer shut down completely took the computer to an IT, who isolated the virus, said it somehow led to a porno site... she is not sure which site it was, thought it was a blue link to a video... all is fixed now.... pretty strange, wonder if anyone else had a problem like that
Good Evening, Eagle Pals
hope Lynne is feeling better soon, and thanks Sissy for that report on Kailey, sounds like a miracle
Was watching the nest when that Whale arrived, Palmer sure seemed to be trying her best to eat it, Belle was watching so patiently.... was some wonderful viewing during that time
thanks for the comments on my wildflowers...so much is popping out now, including those beautiful orange tiger/day lilies! have some favorites that I always like to find, including the "James Rockets" (really Dame's Rockets), Butterfly weed, and in July - cardinal flower Jack in the pulpits were a rare find this year for me! easier for me to get the plants than the animals and birds photographed
I figured someone would have said something by now too Paula... unless their computers shut down and they can't tell us ...
must have just been a fluke
she has really enjoyed watching our nest and enjoys all the nest news...
I also sent her the link to Duke Farms since that is in NJ
well, I sure hope everyone is doing okay, that ailments go away, all pets are healthy, that rest is good and restorative and that your all's Sunday will be a good one God Bless Us, Every One xo ♥
Can you believe that statistic of over 6 mill. viewers since the bear cam went online? Wow---that may well be a record for nature cams! So they have a collar! Wonder how long it will take for them to catch the little imp and get it on.........."Catch me if you can"???? Saying my goodnights. Prayers for all. See all fine, fowl friends in the morning.
P.S. Margy, too bad about your cousin. Nope, haven't heard of anyone else having any trouble like that. If she reads the blog on occassion, she probably thinks we're all crazy!!! Bye.
I was just reading about someone having a problem with their computer after clicking on a BLUE LINK...I, too, had a problem with one yesterday or the day before. I clicked on the blue link and it took me to all sorts of weird places...one after another, after another! Nothing obscene, that I noticed, just didn't take me where the link was supposed to. I had to re-boot to get rid of what was happening!
Another Urgent Care visit for GG today:( She was swollen and had a rash all over her body. Doc said she was having a reaction to the antibiotic she was taking for her wound. We were given a script for new meds. May cause an upset stomach, so got some meds for that! How many pills can this poor lady take?! Doctor thinks she may have to go to the WOUND CENTER, whatever and wherever that is??!!
Fell asleep in my chair. Getting to be a habit. Heding to bed. Good report on Hope. Will be at the computer next Saturday. Laurel said she needs two weeks to prepare for the yard sale.
today's report from Larry the Loon guy....... The sky is clear and a bright blue this morning. And the birds are all singing their Sunday best. A chorus worthy of any choir.
The loon has just let out a single wail. It is almost as if it is a call to its mate, "I am here waiting. Where are you?"
But right now I do not see the mate anywhere in sight.
This is day 33 for the first egg and tonight will be day 31 for the second egg.
So the questions start to mount if the eggs will hatch. And the short answer is that I do not know! But we are now at a fairly critical time. If we do not see the eggs hatch in the next couple days, the chances of them hatching start to go down with each passing day.
But the loons have not given up yet.
They still sit faithfully on the eggs.
Questions have been raised of how long they will continue to sit on an egg that does not hatch.
A couple years ago we had a situation where one egg hatched and the other one did not. The loon kept returning to the nest, along with the chick, to sit on the unhatched egg. After about 10 days or 2 weeks, it was obvious that the second egg was not going to hatch. So in consultation with several experts, we decided that the right thing to do would be to take the egg off the nest to break that bond and to let the loons and the chick get on with their lives.
It was a controversial decision and a number of people were very upset with me that we would do such a thing. But in hindsight, I think it proved to be the right decision. It almost immediately broke the bond with the nest and the parents could teach the chick what it meant to truly be a loon. And that was to be in the water fishing rather than on an artificial nest with an egg that was not going to hatch.
We x-rayed the egg and found that the chick had died inside the egg about halfway through its development. This fit perfectly with a time that the nest had been completely filled with cold water during a storm when an eagle had chased the loon off the nest.
One egg survived. The other one did not.
But this morning it is too early to contemplate something like that.
There is still a chance that our eggs might hatch.
But I have to be brutally honest that now my concern begins to mount with each passing day. A while back I said that if we went significantly beyond this weekend without a hatch, that a successful hatch starts to become questionable. I still feel that way.
There is still a lot of hope. But it begins to dim with each passing day.
There are documented cases of loons sitting on eggs for well over 60 days before finally abandoning the nest. So the loons are faithful in doing their part. And beyond!!
But in most cases of a natural nest along a shore, if an egg does not hatch, eventually a predator will take it. Raccoons are the biggest predators of loon eggs from nests on shore. So nature has a way of breaking that bond with the nest as well.
There is a 50% chance of rain or thunderstorms later today. So the loons will be cooler as they sit on the nest. And we still need the rain since it has been so dry. But we do not need, nor do the loons need, any severe weather with high wind and waves or especially any hail.
But they take what they get. And stay faithful in any kind of weather. In hot weather. In cool weather. In stormy weather. In beautiful sunny, cool weather like it is right now.
For our loons right now, this is just about the ideal. Like Goldilocks, not too hot, not too cold. Not too windy. Not too still.
Morning all! Sure too bad about the link causing problems for people. Surely hope it wasn't any that I put up! Paula----how would Steve know?? Great update on thre loons, Mits. Larry is pretty much of the same mindset as many of us. Wanda, so sorry about GG. It hink they have or are getting ready to open a Wound Center here. THere is also one in Hagerstown and Winchester. The neighbor who died recently had poor results at both. He had better results at Georgetown U Hosp. in DC---they use hyperbaric O2 treatments.
Odd view at the nest. Palmer seems frozen near the noon spot. Leaves are moving, so I have no reason to think anything is wrong with the cam. Oh, now Palmer is moving her head.
Would be nice to see baby loons today. Thanks for the information, Mits. It does seem less likely as time passes that we will get any little loons this year. I really enjoyed watching them last year.
Just time for a quick "Good Morning!" Time to start getting ready for church. Really hot and humid here. Good day to stay in, though I have some work to do. I have today and tomorrow that I can work outside. Then Tuesday I go to babysit. Joey is going with Laurel to the surgeon to see about that lump that is under her arm. Hmmmm??? Glad he is going with her.
Does not sound too good for the Loons, though they are still hoping. I believe in hope!!
I meant to tell you that when I opened the BWO site, Mom was feeding the chicks, and I was able to see all three bobble heads intermittently. All looked healthy, but the youngest is still a lot smaller. ... Active though.
I am slow moving this morning... Just pure laziness I suppose. I was putting peanuts out and the darn bag split and I now have quite a lot of peanuts on the deck floor. I need a herd of squirrels or a flock or blue jays and crows to clean it up for me.
Prayers for Laurel's exam results and for GG's wound to heal!
Crows, too. I got them all! Guess I'd better not send Flash. He will eat peanuts, too, but I don't think he really should, especially not in the shells.
That water is so still at the loon's lake. I don't want to give up on their eggs, so I keep watching for the little black fuzz ball's head to come out of the adult's wing. Please Mother Nature - let it happen!
Palmer just laid down again after jumping across the nest. Those sides of the nest are NOT going to hold up for many more jumps upon them. Maybe she is just hiding from the wind.
Saw a hummer--again on the wrong side of the house, not near feeder.
Just saw a squirrel throwing more leaves off a tree, then come down and carry a bunch up to the nest---replenishing it with green on top of the browned leaves....guess she's making it softer for a new litter.
Nope Hedgie - hubby just picked them all up and they are back into the container..... I was having fun watching them disappear.. Crows are so cautious. One flew down on the deck about 3 feet from the nuts and then flew away without taking any!
Looks like it could rain anytime here in the valley but it may just be the humid haze in the sky.
Hello All. Just dropped in to say Hi. Have lots to do today. I was so lazy yesterday. No yard work for me today. Rainy, thunderstorms and 67 degrees. Inside work only.
Have the parents fed Palmer today? She is squawking a bit. She just laid down.
Wanda, so sorry about GG. She has been through so much lately. I have never heard of a wound center.
Sorry I missed the heart attack time. LOL I get so worked up. Mixed feelings. Won't want to miss her fledge, but don't need a heart attack. LOL
Good news on Hope. I pray she will grow into a healthy bear. She sure has captured my heart.
Shirley, I also get done with school on the 16th. Yaaaa-Whoooo!
Well, back to work. My hubby is helping. I done want to miss out on this chance.
I hope our weather for the 12th is not so humid - thank goodness for the Eagle Express.
May be hearing that Jenny will be able to come.. Doesn't go to work until afternoon hour. And on Tues I will know if I will be adding Kristen's name I love my girls to be with me and enjoying what I am enjoying! Will any gd come with you? We could have a youth group... lol
I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Cannot get the live cam at all. Just that stupid pale square. Clicking and double clicking is apparently useless. Anyone know what I might try?
Lolly, will mark down Tuesday to send a prayer for Kristen but believe all will be just fine.
Phoenix is just hangin out and looking over the edge. Adult babysitting.
TH eaglets are really growing. One looks very ready to fledge.
Going to read some. BBL
Oh, Jo, the Titmouses and Cardinals and Chipmunks and squirrels all seem to devour peanuts as soon as I put them out. Only Thumper, the rabbit, seems to have a nut allergy.
Getting ready to storm...warnings out until evvening. It is SO dark. Wind blowing. Doesn't look like this cloud has hit the nest yet. Think I will shut down for now, even tho' I haven't heard thunder yet. Jo, hope Kristen and Jenny can both come Sat.!! What is the daughters' name who is in Italy? I keep thinking Carole, but not sure if I'm remembering right! BBL.
Judie, I have had some problems with the live feed, but have been successful after hitting refresh and clicking and waiting. I use Firefox. Sometimes I have had to resort to IE or Google Chrome.
I cannot get the Hornby site, though. Maybe I need to download something. I used to visit that nest, but I think it was on Hancock then.
Looked at the Pix Pa site for the first time in awhile last night. It does not seem to have changed. Still lots of raccoons.
The wind has picked up at the loon cam. Wavelets on the lake and the sound of the little floaty nest thing moving.
We have plenty of poison ivy in the far back among the trees and vines back there. Whenever I am tempted to clean that area out, I look at the poison ivy and decide against it.
It sounds like Judie needs some updating. Some people leave their computers on all the time. Maybe if Judie tries shutting down, waiting 5 minutes and reboot, updates will be prompted.
I have read that it helps to clean exposed areas with alcohol. Best solution is to stay away from it!
My first encounter with poison ivy was when I was a child. My brothers and I slid down a bank of poison ivy into the water while wearing bathing suits. Our mother had to take us to the doctor and give us medicine. It was a mess.
I remember that a man who saw Hidey blow out of the nest said that Hidey looked surprised when he left the nest. I wondered how he could tell that Hidey looked surprised, though I expect Hidey was surprised.
I will be thinking about you all this year. I was tempted to take a day of leave and go, but I will save the leave for October. I did have some concern about being able to manage graduation with the colitis, but I think I will be okay.
I can see some of spidey's work, too, Jo. I wonder if there aren't usually some strands there, and that we do not always see them because of the light. They seem to be visible as soon as evening comes and the light dims a bit, and now there must be clouds.
Whoa Jim - cam was zooming all around at NBG until it found the one fleding! Beautiful site - all feetsies and black talons at first. lol Looks to be getting real windy down there also. Hope the storm at our nest soon passes.
Whoever was having troubles with Hornby site, I just opened it without probs. It uses the flashplayer 10 like our site; so maybe if you try it again, look at the top of your browser window to see if the site is requesting to download plugins. If it is, let them download them, and you should be able to get the pic.
Thanks, Jim. I'll give that a try. Very frustrating as I can easily get instant access to all the other cams I watch.
Don't think updates are the issue. Finally got the live feed twice yesterday -- almost seemed like a fluke. Anyway, I'll try the refresh and click. Even tried to go through Google but only got the still cam. Have turned the computer off several times to reboot and that did not help.
Speaking of which, eaglets on Catalina are doing great. Just checked them. Camellia is in a beautiful closeup at NBG. Isla and EJ are quietly babysitting. Phoenix is stretching and yawning.
And Palmer, Palmer seems to be giving everyone nerve attacks! Off to try again.
She took a little flight back when Jo said "not the best move" and landed there, but I did not see anything happen to her unless the wind caused something. I thought she was just getting low because of the wind, but it has been awhile.
Maybe she got frightened by the wind when she was wingersizing. She should have been. She started from right on the edge of the nest. Had backed up there earlier and was spreading her wings. Could have gone over the left side.
If you have looked at Caltran eaglets lately, you can see the oldest flapping and actually leaves the nest and onto a branch supporting the nest. That is scary.
Glad to know that Palmer has no such tempting branch in her nest arrangement.
Tornado Watch 273 in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening... This Afternoon Showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds. Highs in the mid 80s. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent. » ZIP Code Detail Tonight Partly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Some thunderstorms may produce damaging winds in the evening. Lows in the mid 50s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the evening. Chance of rain 50 percent.
Started watching movie but had to run out here just to check on Palmer. Mits - looks like there is a rough time ahead at the nest..... Prayers for Palmer
BEagle, that is what the eagles are supposed to do....practice getting air under the wings....and flap and sometimes branch before they fledge...all a part of the learning process....if she was not doing this I would be worried:(.
Afternoon Everyone! Got up way to early, worked outside & had a Panda nap! St. Francis statue arrived, so he's out on deck. Hope it will help all our animals even a little! Palmer is partly visible at noon. Looks windy there, too. I got a little cloudy & blowing here awhile ago. Yesterday, they finally got both osprey cams working at Park!Last year, the original konked out, so they put one on new nest by boat ramp.Last time I saw the 2 bobbleheads in 1st nest, they looked smaller than ping-pongg balls. Now they have daek d0own/feathers. Nest #2 has one chick.
LOL, Jo, you missed the storm and the scare about Palmer!!! Supposedly over, at least for now. Warnings were until 1:45...and that was just when the sun came out in Jeff. Co. Christie and Jessica are doing a charity 5K for Weight Watchers...it was touch and go whether they would be able to....but guess they're about half-way through by now. Jess is texting Carolyn moaning about how hard it is and how tired she is already!
Palmer squealing! Now crunching--maybe there are some nestovers. Looks a little darker unless that's the cam.She just jumped to middle of nest--loks like that's wear the food is & I can see all of here! Getting much darker here.
Oh no I didn't Hedgie.. But in someways I wish I had... Shirley BEagle and I were on when all this first started! She really looked as though she was going to blow over the edge!
Mama squirrel was working so industriously building up that nest....either the wind blew or she knocked down half of it.....but she's still working. Got pics. Also had a hummer within a foot of me....lovely. But didn't have camera with me. Think I will bring feeder around to that side of house.
I have to hope that if she should blow over, she would be able to land safely at this point, but do not want to see her blowing around in a strong wind.
Speaking of chipmunks, when Will had some friends over last weekend, one of the women looked out of my window, and said, "Oh, a chipmunk!" It was a squirrel. I am always surprised when someone does not know what a squirrel looks like. Susan had a roommate who did not recognize squirrels. That seems so odd to me.

Good report on Hope. Will be at the computer next Saturday. Laurel said she needs two weeks to prepare for the yard sale.
Nite all! Sweet dreams!
Good Sunday (JUNE 6th, 2010) morning everyone, have a blessed one....Remember D Day.
Lisa has some good videos on her site....BWO.....
We added three new chick videos to our Osprey Cam Web Log. Check out the clips to see our three chicks in action.
Loon is jumping up and down like crazy this a.m., can't get settled, calling out, but eggs still look intact from what I can see of them.
today's report from Larry the Loon guy.......
The sky is clear and a bright blue this morning. And the birds are all singing their Sunday best. A chorus worthy of any choir.

Good morning, everyone!
If it isn't too late, I'll have a chocolate frosty, also.
No, Margy, nothing more heart-fluttering than watching Palmer practice at nest edge.
The number of viewers for Lily and Hope is incredible. Understandable, but incredible.
Wanda, so sorry GG is having more trouble. Wound Center places treat wounds that have not responded to prior treatment -- it's what they do.
Good morning, Mits.
Coffee and newspaper time.
Hi ya, Judie:), off for coffee too.
Morning, all!
sorry the blue link got you to Wanda. Maybe Steve has already removed it. Wound care might help GG.
heading out for awhile today...
Morning all!
Sure too bad about the link causing problems for people. Surely hope it wasn't any that I put up! Paula----how would Steve know??
Great update on thre loons, Mits. Larry is pretty much of the same mindset as many of us.

Re: D-Day---remember the 2004 movie "Ike: Countdown to D-Day"? Tom Selleck played Eisenhower. GOOD movie.
Heading out, catch ya'll later
Good morning,
Odd view at the nest. Palmer seems frozen near the noon spot. Leaves are moving, so I have no reason to think anything is wrong with the cam. Oh, now Palmer is moving her head.
Hope GG has a better day, Wanda.
Chocolate frosty. Sounds good, to me, too, Judie.
Haven't had a problem with a blue link, at least not yet.
Would be nice to see baby loons today. Thanks for the information, Mits. It does seem less likely as time passes that we will get any little loons this year. I really enjoyed watching them last year.
Good news about Kailey, and I hope Lynne is completely recovered by now.
Well it took 4 'newer' clicks to find all of you to say Good Morning I guess we could hit 1000 before Monday morning. I just hope Steve is okay!
Just finished my 1st cup of coffee and checking on Palmer and the Loon! Thanks Mits for bringing over Larry's comments.
Just time for a quick "Good Morning!" Time to start getting ready for church. Really hot and humid here. Good day to stay in, though I have some work to do. Palmer is just resting or sleeping in the area of the egg cup. She spends so much time on the edge, it seems strange to see her at this position.
Hello, Jo and Lolly. Good morning.
Morning, Jo. LOL It took me a few clicks as well to find the right page on the blog.
Good morning, Shirley. How many more days of school for you. Laurel is feeling good with school over for her.
Palmer has decided to get up on the edge now.
Palmer has his wings outstretched and doing wingersizers!

Oh, boy, some good jumps and flap!
Good morning, Jim!
I have to leave now. Need to eat and get ready for church.
Have a great Sunday! I'll BBL after church.
Thought Palmer was going over the edge that time!
June 16 is my last day, Lolly.
Hope Laurel gets a good report from her doctor, Lolly.
I meant to tell you that when I opened the BWO site, Mom was feeding the chicks, and I was able to see all three bobble heads intermittently. All looked healthy, but the youngest is still a lot smaller. ... Active though.

Prayers for Laurel's exam results and for GG's wound to heal!
Peanuts disappear from my back porch almost as fast as I put them out, Jo. I'll send you some squirrels and blue jays.
I do really want to see at least one of the two loon eggs to hatch!
Palmer is up there at the noonish site!
I need to break away for just a little while BRBsoon
Crows, too. I got them all! Guess I'd better not send Flash. He will eat peanuts, too, but I don't think he really should, especially not in the shells.
Hot and humid out there, today, Jo. You are smart to leave the peanuts for the critters to clean up.
That water is so still at the loon's lake. I don't want to give up on their eggs, so I keep watching for the little black fuzz ball's head to come out of the adult's wing. Please Mother Nature - let it happen!
It would be nice to see at least one loon hatch. It really would.
Looks like a few clouds in the sky reflected on the lake at the loon cam. Very calm lake today.
Taking a break. BBL.
Palmer just laid down again after jumping across the nest. Those sides of the nest are NOT going to hold up for many more jumps upon them. Maybe she is just hiding from the wind.
See you in a little while Shirley.
Didn't last long for Palmer - she is up at Lib's spot looking outward...
Saw a hummer--again on the wrong side of the house, not near feeder.
Just saw a squirrel throwing more leaves off a tree, then come down and carry a bunch up to the nest---replenishing it with green on top of the browned leaves....guess she's making it softer for a new litter.
Jo, bet those peanuts will all be gone before days end!!
Nope Hedgie - hubby just picked them all up and they are back into the container..... I was having fun watching them disappear.. Crows are so cautious. One flew down on the deck about 3 feet from the nuts and then flew away without taking any!

A good day to all. Will be back later. ((HUGS))
I hope our weather for the 12th is not so humid - thank goodness for the
Eagle Express.
May be hearing that Jenny will be able to come.. Doesn't go to work until afternoon hour. And on Tues I will know if I will be adding Kristen's name
I love my girls to be with me and enjoying what I am enjoying! Will any gd come with you? We could have a youth group... lol
I didn't realize that Sharon was only a little over an hour away from Bev & Tom's site! That's great.
I can't tell if I am hearing the wind at our nest or the loon's nest... so I turned off the sound at the loon's.
Just got an email
Bonjourno from Italy
They are sight seeing like crazy and eating delicious foods and taking lots of pics.
C U Later DEB
I am also taking a break
Lunch time and street clothes time
BBL
Good just after noon, everyone.
It's cool and cloudy and 66°, but we're planning on at least the high 70's today in the southland (So Cal).
[:~D]
Jim
Judie, I just checked my live feed, accidentally hit the "refresh" key, and now I have a light colored blank space there too.
Don't know if it was frozen before I refreshed... It was working earlier this morning though.
[:~D]
Jim
Good afternoon to everyone.
Is this a record breaking thread?
Just popped in to check on that superb eaglet on the nest. She really likes that perch at noon.
Ah, there we go. Some wings flaps to help put her at the one positions for probably a PS.
I was hoping to see a hatching at the loon nest.
OK, we're back on, and Palmer is practicing wing strokes all over the nest.
[:~D]
Jim
Try refreshing a couple of times and then clicking on the arrow on the left side of the control panel.
[:~D]
Jim
Getting ready to storm...warnings out until evvening. It is SO dark. Wind blowing. Doesn't look like this cloud has hit the nest yet. Think I will shut down for now, even tho' I haven't heard thunder yet.
Jo, hope Kristen and Jenny can both come Sat.!! What is the daughters' name who is in Italy? I keep thinking Carole, but not sure if I'm remembering right! BBL.
I would love to gather up all my squirrels to eat the peanuts.
I would love to gather up my deer too who eat our neighborhood flowers and my tomato plant, shamrock and strawberries.
Hi,
Just finished lunch. BLT and squash.
But do deer eat peanuts? If Flash does then may be deer would too. I would like to distract them from my tomato plant.
Deer are supposed to like poison ivy but they haven't found the p ivy in my iris bed.
I scratched for a week after pulling that stuff out.
Wow, we are almost to the 900 mark. Remember when we took it to 1,000? I believe that was at Christmastime.
Here's a cut and paste on the Hornby cam. Maybe this will help.
http://www.wildearth.tv/web/dch-hornby-01?streamId=hornbyeagles01
I hear raindrops.
We have plenty of poison ivy in the far back among the trees and vines back there. Whenever I am tempted to clean that area out, I look at the poison ivy and decide against it.
What do you know, BEagle. It worked! Thanks.
The PH #69 was producing strong winds with wing flaps.
I will bookmark that address.
Now, how do we help Judie? It is more important for her to be able to see Palmer.
The only thing I know to do is refresh a couple of times, and when you click on the "play" arrow, wait a bit.
Some people are immune to poison ivy, others get it way to easily.
If you cover yourself completely (and it's usually to warm for that)
and shower and launder right after messing with the ivy, it's supposed to help.
It sounds like Judie needs some updating. Some people leave their computers on all the time. Maybe if Judie tries shutting down, waiting 5 minutes and reboot, updates will be prompted.
When was the last time you had the cam up?
Settle down Palmer or we are going to
lose you!
Palmer is really ...Oh no stay back
Whew! Palmer is really working those wings. Heart throbs.
Yes, I would definitely wash everything I had worn in poison ivy.
Keep a close watch over Palmer
and tell her to settle down until that storm passes or we are going to have
and MT nest.........
I remember my days of laying in the poison ivy. I had to wear calamine lotion.
That gel from Benedryl is really soothing with the itchiness.
Looking upward - hope adults are up there
That is what happened to Hidey. A windy day and wingersizes, and at the same age, I believe.
I remember that a man who saw Hidey blow out of the nest said that Hidey looked surprised when he left the nest. I wondered how he could tell that Hidey looked surprised, though I expect Hidey was surprised.
I think Palmer knows when the winds are too strong. She is really a smart bird.
Hang on, Palmer!
When was the nest visit last year?
Well smart until it comes to food.
She seems to be hunkering down right now, and a good thing, too.
I can't tell that the sycamore is swaying. I have seen that happen. It's a big tree. Takes a lot to make it sway.
She better keep those wings tucked for the present.
Sounded like an adult just landed above
May 23rd 2009 Shirley
Looks like Palmer is looking at a parent above.
So it was the week before the fledge.
Some rain drops have made it over the mountain into the valley here.
No wind to speak of yet.......
I will be thinking about you all this year. I was tempted to take a day of leave and go, but I will save the leave for October. I did have some concern about being able to manage graduation with the colitis, but I think I will be okay.
I can still see a trace at the bottom of the lens of Spidey's web from last evening.
Sunny here, but there are some clouds.
That is good to hear, Shirley!
Close ups of fledglings at Norfolk site.
[:~D]
Jim
I can see some of spidey's work, too, Jo. I wonder if there aren't usually some strands there, and that we do not always see them because of the light. They seem to be visible as soon as evening comes and the light dims a bit, and now there must be clouds.
Yes, Jo, I like to handle the normal things of life. I got through BDP day out on the football field.
lol Looks like Palmer tucked her head down under and is hiding from the rain and wind.
No, Palmer!
No wing spreading, now!
No backing up to the edge!!
Whoa Jim - cam was zooming all around at NBG until it found the one fleding!
Beautiful site - all feetsies and black talons at first. lol
Looks to be getting real windy down there also.
Hope the storm at our nest soon passes.
Back to Palmer!... and heart failure!
That was not a wise more Palmer!!!!!
Whoever was having troubles with Hornby site, I just opened it without probs. It uses the flashplayer 10 like our site; so maybe if you try it again, look at the top of your browser window to see if the site is requesting to download plugins. If it is, let them download them, and you should be able to get the pic.
[:~D]
Jim
Got it, Jim. BEagle's link worked. Thank you.
Palmer seems to have decided to stay low for now.
What is wrong with Palmer???????
It is windy in Norfolk, but it looked sunny, too, Jo.
Palmer looks like a crashed plane, but I do not think anything is wrong.
Did anyone see anything happen? Did she get hit by blowing debris??? Something isn't right......
The storm missed us, but was supposedly bad in nest country.
Just doesn't look like hunkering down..........
She really does look odd, but she was doing something similar earlier.
Left wing position???
I don't know, Lynn. She has been like that for awhile.
Not the same position, no.
Moving her head now.
THank the Lord, she raised her head.
Hi all! It does look like there is something wrong with Palmer, but guess (and hope) She is just hunkering down from wind and rain.
She took a little flight back when Jo said "not the best move" and landed there, but I did not see anything happen to her unless the wind caused something. I thought she was just getting low because of the wind, but it has been awhile.
Whew! Worried mother hen here! It scared me really badly.
Palmer is ok. The winds are very strong and she plopped down where she is.
She hasn't tucked all her feathers in on the left wing is all.
Maybe she got frightened by the wind when she was wingersizing. She should have been. She started from right on the edge of the nest. Had backed up there earlier and was spreading her wings. Could have gone over the left side.
Oh, good, she's up and fluffing the wings. Looks A-OK!
Standing up and looking normal again. Just watch that wingspreading now, Palmer. It is still windy.
Calling out, too. Ma, where were you? Why didn't you come stay with me???
Good golly what a wing spread
and a poop shoot, nicely done.
Just posted on FB...
Lily the Black Bear Hope is sleeping soundly in a maple tree within sight of the feeding station. -- SM
Settle down, girl. It's not the time to go.
Oh, wow! I thought for sure she had just launched herself!
I am not so sure she is frightened but she sure is frightening us!
She's gonna do it...if not by intention by accident in that wind.
I am not sure she will still be in the nest by next weekend.
Hi everyone. Heading to 1000 again I see. IS Steve away or sick? Hope he's okay.
Palmer is giving me heart palpatations. She is so anxious to leave. Those twigs on the edge won't hold her much longer with all her bouncing around
I agree, Lolly. But I hope she will be just fine and near the nest.
Thank goodness she settled down.
If you have looked at Caltran eaglets lately, you can see the oldest flapping and actually leaves the nest and onto a branch supporting the nest. That is scary.
Glad to know that Palmer has no such tempting branch in her nest arrangement.

Was just checking Jo's blog for pictures of the tree. There are a few branches near the nest that Palmer could land on if necessary.
Oh good grief!!! You all are worse than a scary movie for a blind person. I take it Palmer is okay?
Started watching movie but had to run out here just to check on Palmer.
Mits - looks like there is a rough time ahead at the nest.....
Prayers for Palmer
Palmer is fine, Judie.
I hope we don't lose our cam...
Just saw a brilliant blue flash across the live feed screen....
Back to finish my movie
BEagle, that is what the eagles are supposed to do....practice getting air under the wings....and flap and sometimes branch before they fledge...all a part of the learning process....if she was not doing this I would be worried:(.
Thanks, Shirley.
Shutting down. Dark, very windy, looks like a storm is just a heartbeat away. BBL
Time for dessert. I am going for more ice cream.
Doann, we don't know what's up with Steve.
Goes from sunshine to cloudy and back again here. Right now it is sunny, but I see lots of clouds. Not too windy.
Enjoyed the ice cream. Had to get George a snack, but he wants mine, too.
Palmer is squealing and hunting up nestovers. She has had plenty of exercise today. Now she is hungry.
Palmer is looking for some nestovers and rearranging fluff.
Palmer squealing! Now crunching--maybe there are some nestovers. Looks a little darker unless that's the cam.She just jumped to middle of nest--loks like that's wear the food is & I can see all of here!
Getting much darker here.
Just checked weather channel. Tornado watch here and just about everywhere around here.
Loretta, guess you know that race is still on rain delay......but drivers are in the cars....MTBR.
It seems like hummers like to fly close, but it is hard to get pictures.
The Calorie King says a 4 oz. chocolate Frosty has 160 calories
4 grams of fat and 26 carbs.
BEagle you're breaking y heart!
I have to especially watch carbs...
One Frosty every 2 weeks is ok I think
lol
As long as I don't eat lunch or dinner that day!!!
Sunny at the nest now.
That's for a Jr. Frosty. Never noticed those on the menu.
Yeah. Sometimes I have to take another Metfor to be safe.
Adult on the nest. Looks like Lib.
Lib flew off. Did he leave a fish?
What is it?
Maybe a frog? Maybe a chipmunk? She's doing right by it whatever it is.
I'd take that Frosty, regardless of those figures, BEagle!
Just got a fairly good shot of a bluebird. Lots of fussing between two, but could only locate one.
Of course, Susan's roommate was odd. She once asked Susan what liquid dogs require.
Chipmunk or whatever--Palmer is making short work of it.
Camera is having some issues.
That was a weird cam thingy----hope it's not going down.
Jr Frosties are not worth the trouble... It is smaller than a baby ice cream cone.... Go for the medium... I guess I could take an extra metformin
I will take a frosty, too.
Looks like it is about to storm here.
96 according to our thermometer. Yuk! Think I will move to Colorado!
Looks like the sun is out at the nest. Well, it was a second ago! LOL
Very close to 1,000. I don't remember what the record for posts is, but it is something over 1,000.
I do hope Steve is okay, and is just out enjoying himself somewhere.
LOL, Shirley, that girl needs to take some animal science courses!! Bet Susan doesn't tolerate someone like that too well, does she?
93 degrees here.
