Wednesday

NCTC is closed today due to the snow and ice. They just now plowed my street, which has a layer of snow and then 3/4 of an inch of ice on top. I suspect that the cam transmitter is ice covered, thus the problem.

Thank you Steve and Eagle Eye! No one plowed our lane this morning, and we attempted to do so, but the layer of ice is so thick, so after shoveling for three and a half hours around the vehicles and house, and several phone calls to the pres. of the assoc., a neighbor finally showed up with his tractor and plowed our lane. Phew! we were starting to think we would never get the lane cleared.

Congratulations, Mits!!

Paula A32 really checking out that nest. Maybe she is thinking in about 2 years or so that SC might consider the same arrangements that SC has. lol

MY HUSBAND IS A____, can't figure it out Megan?

My husband is a SAINT...now I think I got it:):):)!

Mema Jo said...

Bet it is

You know Valentine's day talk

MITS said...

That's it, Jo, you are exactly correct!!!!!

MITS said...

Oh No, Black screen at BW.

MITS said...

Ok, its back at BW.

floralgirl said...

OK, sorry, Mom duties, saw them coming in and had to make hot chocolate. be back much later as I shovel too much heavy ice and snow

Ho Ho That was fun Megan!
We'll do it again..... Enjoy the hot chocolate!

Mema Jo said...

I need to take a break... Be back after dinner ( I am eating early )

floralgirl said...

You were so close, Jo. I added some pics to my album on Momsters site of birds in my yard if anyone wants to see them.

floralgirl said...

Oh, I am so hungry, my reward for shoveling out mom in laws steps and car- homemade fried chicken, waiting for her to bring it over. She makes the best fried chicken I have ever had, no bones in it. It is great.

floralgirl said...

Thanks Jo and MIts for the articles about the early mornnig wake up calls, interesting to learn they spent $25,000 for the use of this system.

MITS said...

Watching the MAINE CAM, and, I keep thinking Jim Santore from "THE WEATHER CHANNEL", should be popping up in front of the camera!

MITS said...

Well, Megan, it worked:):).

floralgirl said...

Yeah, it worked all right,. What I didn't realize, cause I hung up in disgust as soon as the message started, was that it was a message announcing school was closed from the week before! Can they get a refund??

MITS said...

Your kidding me...I can think of a place that could use 25,000 for a cam.

EGG TURNING TIME AT VA.

MITS said...

Does any one know when VA eggs were laid?

floralgirl said...

Wow, ran out to feed the birds one last time tonight, it is so bitter cold out there. Hate the strong gusting wind.

floralgirl said...

I can't watch that cam:(, #@*% dial up connection.

MITS said...

Ok, found the info for the VA eggs. I'm concerned about the 1 egg I saw looked like it had a crack in it, and on the blog it was said that because of DDT, that it is not uncommon fot the eagle to lay thin-shelled eggs. The cam is up so nice and close, you could see everyting she was doing while she was turning them.

MITS said...

LOL....Megan! Go get some rest and enjoy your fried chicken:).

MITS said...

VA eagle is up again, seems very restless.

floralgirl said...

Well, I am snacking on chips as I await the fried chicken delivery!

MITS said...

I haven't had fried chicken in a long time:(:(.

floralgirl said...

Oh, she makes the best fried chicken I have ever tasted. Everyone that eats it raves about it.

MITS said...

My sister makes a mean fried chicken.

Just Vicky said...

Are the Norfolk eggs close to hatching??? Does anyone know??

Mema Jo said...

I can smell Megan's fried chicken
The wind just gusted at about 50 mph and the smell coming into the valley was something else.

Saw Megan's new photos. She really does have lots of cardinals.

Mema Jo said...

VA cam- Is anyone's VA cam very dark however you can see the eagle and the cam has the long range view of the tree?

Mema Jo said...

Vicky - Somewhere on their blog it tells you I can only remember that the 3rd egg was laid Feb 7th Mits' birthday..

Just Vicky said...

Thanks Mema JO! Gives me some idea then!

Mema Jo said...

Vicky 1/31, 2/3, 2/7
If you go into their cam from the beakspeak.com link on the left the write ups are below the cam.

Just Vicky said...

That's my Captain Mema Jo -- tells me where to go!!

MITS said...

Once again, Jo comes to the rescue with the correct info....They are just starting their journey. Wrote to them late this afternoon, regarding what I believe is a beak crack in one of the eggs, perhaps, by mom or dad, when they were turning them...MTBR.

MITS said...

MITS said...

Thank you Norma:).

normabyrd said...

MEGAN----I just looked at your bird photos---Those CARDINAL pics are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!---I have always had a few & enjoy watching them---but nothing like you have---THANKS for posting them!!

MITS said...

Megan what do you feed your cardinals? I've never seen so many:). How did my Mr. Hawk get to your house? He was hanging around my back yard all morning.

floralgirl said...

Well, it took me years, but I finally got every cardinal in the neighborhood to live in my yard.LOL. We just feed the birds black oil sunflower seeds. That is really their favorite. We have had 3 hawks that are always hanging around the yard lately. They are mostly afetr mice, but do eat some of the songbirds. Always breaks my heart if I see them grab one, but they gotta eat, too.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Good evening everybody. It is still pretty nasty here so I didn't make my usual trip out. Hopefully our cam will get back up tomorrow.

Andrew leaves tomorrow going to WVU for the Honor Band this weekend. I am going up Saturday morning early. It is about 5 hours from here. This is our last time of doing this. Maybe next year, I will watch him in the real WVU Mountaineer Marching Band!!

Mauley said...

Hey Good Friends, Happy Valentines Day to all of you. and Congratulations Mits. You are a winner with all of us all of the time.Sharon, I feel like I should be going to watch Andrew perform, too. It is so sad that senior year. You think, "Oh this will be the last home game for us, or Oh this will be the last performance in this or that, and Oh, this is Andrew's last Valentine Day in high school, or Oh, this is ANdrew's last Easter in high school." It is really bad when it is the last child, but with Andrew, just let me say, Aren't you glad to have Mattie. She looks more like you than Andrew does, can't you just keep her??? I bet she and Andrew get along so well. Clap for him for all of us. Will Mattie get to go. Did you hear from your tests and get a schedule for them to tell you that the abscess is gone> Love all of you donna

Mema Jo said...

You all are going to love this.Lisa (again) has placed photos on her BW nest update.
Do the slideshow and under the pic for the timing chose 1. Let me know what you think after you view all 22 pics of the 3 soaring eagles. I think that one is a juvie

Mema Jo said...

Mauley - I guess I looked at things differently - When my 5th and last child in his senior year did specific things that would be the last time for it to happen in school - Man I shouted with joy! Yeah Man - You made it! You're on your way to bigger & better!! But I know that graduation is a sad proud day! Especially for your last one!

MITS said...

Well, that was some awsome pics from Bob Quinn...take a look at the tree view also, he has pics from the National Zoo, Bermuda, his backyard with wonderful bird and cat pics....and correcto-mondo, Jo, that is definitely a JUVIE.

MITS said...

Sharon, should be a fun time!!!

floralgirl said...

Sounds great, Sharon. Tell Andrew way to go! Looks like a juvie in those pics to me, Jo.

MITS said...

Probably the juvie we see at the osprey nest somtimes.

Sandra, I check about 2-3 times a day the falcon sites knowing I probably wouldn't see a falcon but also knowing what an inspirational sight those 2 cams are. With the snow, I was looking for bird prints!

floralgirl said...

Well, nite all, long day here, too much shoveling has taken it's toll on my back and shoulders, and I never did get to nap today.Schools haven't announced yet, so I have to assume they will be on time, although I bet there may be a delay in the morning, at least I know they won't be calling me at 4:30 am! LOL- Hope they can fix our cam tomorrow, and I wish these winds would die down soon. Think they are supposed to be with us all nite, though. Hope I can get some rest, mother nature is wreaking havoc with my sleep. schedule.

Hey, everyone, Good night, of course... But I wanted to tell you there are a bunch of great pics of eagles playing "chase" on the BW site.

Hope our cam comes back as the freeze eases.

Good morning Eagle land. I hope everybody has a good day. I am hoping to hear from the doctor this morning. They received the films yesterday evening after he had left for the day!

Mauley said...

Good Morning everyone. Sharon we are waiting to hear from you when they let you know something, too.

floralgirl said...

Morning, 12° here and still windy. Icy as can be outside, hard to walk without falling. Hubby made it out to work, doesn't think he can make it back in later. No school here again, thank goodness. Our development roads are a mess, gonna have to get on the phone in a little and complain. Guy who plowed only made one lane, and even it is crappy. If you meet a car, your gonna be screwed. Have to walk to the mailboxes down at the front of development to send some letters, hope I don't fall, gotta find a walking stick or something.

floralgirl said...

Sharon, hope you get some good news, keeping my fingers crossed...

belle_wv said...

Good morning everyone - another snow day here and boy is it cold today! Sure glad kids didn't have to go out and wait for bus pick up in this cold. I bet the schools are cold too - usually takes until friday for them to warm up from the previous weekends temp set back, and with us out - guess it never will warm up this week... going to wear lots of layers to work tomorrow for sure

belle_wv said...

Congratulations Mits on winning the beautiful quilt - I kept forgetting to send in my entries... glad it will be getting a good home - as if any one of us wouldn't have been a good home for it... :)

I am so far out of the loop that y'all will have to fill me in on anything I've missed - cam is down and hopefully will warm up soon - maybe we need to make a warm waterproof quilt for our cam equipment?

Sharon - I'm keeping my prayers going that all is going well for you and that the abscess is going going GONE :)

Oh my - I think it is a good thing that I am usually at work - I can't keep up with y'all - nest hopping - so many nests with two letter names - I have no idea which is which or where or anything, but I'm just glad to hear reports of so much activity :) Our nest has three eggs - I hope Lib and Belle are not suffering too much to keep them warm and dry through the nasty wind and weather we've been having. Snow makes it easier to spot some ground critters for meals, so hopefully they can keep tummies full while they are keeping eggs safe

normabyrd said...

Good Late Cold Morning to All
Read emails, checked cams & read your comments. Hi Belle Don't see Suzanne but sure wouldn't have wanted to start up my car as early as our gal in Pa. Wow Suzanne - 2 days to hook up your computer is great!

Va Nest - looks like he/she is down in the nest bed.
NE Nest - love those bird prints in the snow!
Eagle in ME Nest now - fixing up some things

belle_wv said...

Glad to get a chance to stop in, even if I have been 'in and out' - now it is time to get ready and venture OUT - see what the roads are like - have to take my daughter's tenor to get some repairs - her band director is getting antsy that she gets it fixed before the jazz festival... have a great day and stay in and warm - speaking of in and warm - did megan ever make it back from her trip to the mailbox? I hope she didn't get stuck in an icy drift or run over or fall and break anything!

Mema Jo said...

Sure have, Sharon. She loves that tub. Wonder if she'll play with the yellow ball when she awakes?

MITS said...

Eagle at VA, was just up a few minutes ago, cam tried very hard to see her eggs, but no luck, she has them covered with pine branches, but got a really good close up of how carefully she tries to get back onto the the eggs...thanks for the heads-up, Jo on the Maine eagle, was concerned about them yeaterday, during the BLIZZARD.

MITS said...

Lisa, has some good pics on osprey cam site of eagles drying out after the big storm.

floralgirl said...

Yeah, Belle I made it back! I think I would have done better with ice skates than boots, though. Had to call and complain about the road:( really hated to do that, but they only plowed one lane wide and if you meet another car you are both gonna get stuck. Word is there is already a truck stuck in a snowbank and they can't get it out. Think the guys who plowed would have put down cinders or salt, but no. Wish I had a big tractor, I would have done a better job. Maybe they should hire a woman to clear the roads:)! Gotta go, hubby says he's on his way, and I gotta stop traffic going out, so he can make it in. It's all uphill coming in. This ought to be fun,(not) Wish our cam was working! Sun is trying to shine!

normabyrd said...

HI SHARON---Did you get to see BUTA BUTA this a.m. climbing in the tub?---Those little black legs tickle me so---She is always trying to reach something that's out of her reach----ADORABLE!

MITS said...

I love that the flamingos share their pond at the zoo with the ducks...pretty pic this a.m.

Mema Jo said...

Going to get some lunch - Then I have a haircut appointment - Not far from here & hubby checked out the roads & they are clear. I'll be back later this afternoon.

Sure hope Megan knows how to stop
traffic! lol I am convinced she can and will do anything she needs to do!
