Helen, Can you post on the blog for me that Sunday is Squiggles', Zhen Zhen's first birthday? I wrote it on my calendar, and it just popped up. Hard to believe she's a year old already, little cutie pie! She was born at 1:31, their time, 3 Aug 07.
Good morning everyone. Just looked in on the flamingos. The chicks are getting so big. Last night who every was doing the panda cam NZ had close ups at one point of Tai's paw and then Mei's paw.
I am watching pandas and working. No dolphins in Bluefield though. I watched that show about the pandas that Hedgie told us about. Have you seen it, Mits?
Good August Morn! So the pic is up on the live feed but that means the sound is down! Mei is good ole' Mei! I guess that is some of the reasons for the CALM morning! Where is our NORMA Oh yes! I remember well! (Finally my memory is working) Her company came yesterday! Enjoy them Norma.
yes, I saw it, I'm not a big Samantha Brown fan....thought the segment was a bit sanitized, but that is due to the fact that China is a communist country, therefore, everything had to be censored, still do not agree with the statement of no twins being born in the wild.....FONZ is doing a trip to China the end of this month, Lisa Stevens is going to be the lead tour guide, she is panda curator at the zoo....would love to go on it, but not in good enough shape to do it...they will be going to Chengdu Breeding center
Sloth bear on Cam 2A - just walked past the cam - can't see now. No other animals visible on cams. Except the sleeping ferrets.. Finally got to see one of the flamingo chicks... legs really did get longer........
Update on Patrick - left Kuwait and has arrived at Iraq camp. Has been able to call home to talk with all his girls! Update on Ryan - Scheduled home in Jan 09. Both my guys are on 15 month tours. I don't think Bush is going to cut that down to his 12 month deals - only the upcoming assignments. I wish I am reading it wrong! Well, I really pray that I am. Freedom Isn't Free - PUT YOUR RED FRIDAY SHIRT ON
I've been thinking of calling the Atlanta zoo and see if they need some bamboo for their Pandas. I have lots of Real Bamboo that has moved into my yard from the neighbors who planted it.
Hey, Red.....are you anywhere near Double Spring? Not sure what part of your state it is in...guess I could look it up on the map...just remember that my cousin said she is about 2 hrs. from Birmingham.
Two additional urine samples were collected yesterday, one in the morning and one in the evening, providing a mean progestin value of about 61 ng/mg Cr. A sample collected this morning had a progestin concentration of 53 ng/mg Cr. As yesterday’s mean and today’s progestin values are still higher than baseline range, we can conclude that the luteal phase is not over yet and that there is still hope for a cub.
good evening everyone-got some fresh green beans and new potatoes cooking-waiting on some apples beverly is sending me from WV-smells like old times in my household
lol....I think that every night, but I'm guessing it is not written in stone that she will even deliver during the night, I know the cam operators hope it happens durning the day when the keepers are there
August 1 It is the beginning of August and all of us thought we would have an answer to the big question by now! Here we are, still hoping for a cub.
Mei Xiang slept from around 2:30 p.m. yesterday until just after midnight. After she woke up, she occupied herself paw licking for four minutes, nipple licking for ten minutes, and dragging bamboo into the den before falling back to sleep.
She was quite herself this morning. She came out for the ultrasound between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m. and was only slightly jumpy. She was bright-eyed and chewed her food with more energy than we have recently observed. Mei especially enjoyed slurping down two rather juicy pieces of sugar cane as a reward for her cooperation. She shreds and leaves the outer culm of the cane, just like when eating bamboo, and then she gets down to business on the inner part. Mei also engaged in quite a bit of paw and body licking to clean up all of the sweet remnants. Mei slept all day and when she awakened around 3 p.m., she moved to the den and began to eat her nest. Never mind that there was ten kilograms of fresh bamboo, nicely refreshed by the mister in the storage shed, waiting in her enclosures.
Mits-Sharon and Mattie are here. I'm going to sweeten my apples that Beverly sent and getting in the showere. Talk to you all later. Love Hope the cam will not be off all weekend! @#!$#@!!
Evening everyone sorry i just up and disappeared the other day but I got ill and was not on for few days.. Ahhh i thought sure i new cub would be here by now and Tai would have new brother or sister... Any ways ill be back and when i return please look at my new picture!!!!
Jazzys Birthday picture in her birthday dress her aunt Dawn bought her...I have couple more but can only put 1 at time on here..lol Mits i think Mei is waiting for you to be there to have that baby....
Thanks Hedgie i just think sometimes my stents in my heart gets clogged up and i flop out for awhile til it passes.. Just take the Plavix and Imdur and hope for the best..lol Im to rottin to really get ill.. asked anyone... wink
A friend had Dr. Pittaluga, and said if she hadn't already had a heart attack she would have when she saw him because he was so darn handsome! So when my guy had his cath and I met him, and had to agree with her!!
Sounds like I should have headed to Bedford or Hedgesville for my dinner. All those home grown goodies. I do have a lope for later. They are really good this year.
Watching Mei sleep Frodocam has not ledge tenants yet Slow evening - everyone enjoy!
Right, Hedgie, it does. I sent the apples down to Thelma and Sharon and Mattie are gonna munch em all up!! Staying with my mil tonight. She just laid down. I am not too good at this caregiver stuff. Sharon has always done that.
Hi Sissy - Mei has been sleeping since I've been on. I need to go read up on Lun Lun down in Atlanta.
I hope Mei soon has a little cub for us to watch. I didn't know about the cam when Tai was born so I don't know what kind of coverage they have on a new cub. Just familiar with Atlanta when ButaButa was born.
They are still watching Lun Lun like we are Mei! They reported ..... Based on Lun Lun's current hormone profile, we expect a possible birth window from August 9 – August 19. However, this may be adjusted based on her behavior and physical changes.
Sissy - it is exciting - the waiting and all and then hoping you will be tuned in to the cam when it unexpectedly happens! I know we were all watching the Atlanta cam. I think that Sharon may have even seen the birth. She'll have to get on here after eating her delicious dinner and tell us!
No, Jo, he is at work. He will come when he gets off at midnight. She has already laid down. I so worry about something happening to her while I am here. Don't want to do the wrong thing, etc. She is the strongest woman I have ever met. She had 11 children, raised 4-5 that weren't hers, too. She has also buried 3 sons before their 50th birthday to cancer. A really great woman and she is so ready to go to heaven to be with her family.
She's okay, Paula, sleeping right now. She fell again yesterday while I was here. I am afraid we are getting to the place where we aren't able to keep her safe at home.
I think some people are having trouble getting on the blog...just got an email from Naturenut...so if you are here, don't leave unless you're ready to leave for the night...
Yeah Jo, she does use a walker and it gets way too far out in front of her. Mattie told her that her arms got too far ahead of her feet. But she can't ambulate at all without it. So we are trying to be right there for every step. That is not as easy as it sounds, either.
Yeah, a physical therapist comes once a week and a CNA comes twice a week to bathe her. But no one to stay. We are doing that ourselves and it is just a few doing everything. You know how that works. Everybody has big plans and no one follows through.
Hallelujah, Been trying to get back on here for almost 3 hours!! Thx, Paula for today's link---that worked. Now I hope you could get back on!!
We've all been a little frustrated not being able to see very many animals--online & in real life. But today at Chelsea, the farmhouse office, WE WERE SHOCKED by this creature!!! Click on my blog...
Well, blog threw me off w/ an aborted operation message, but was able to get right back on. Yeah, Sis, that's always how it works....everyone makes noise and promises but just a few do it all. Don't really know anything about how Medicare handles home health (I have a feeling they probably don't!) but some respite care might be good for all of you!
lol Naturenut: I was expecting some wild hairy monster but I was relieve when I saw your spook! Wanda said earlier today that she & Dustin took a walk and brought home 2 cocoons to keep until the butterflies appear!
Oh, I have a funny. We got up here this evening (me and Ellie Mae) and Mrs. Riffe has 2 tennis balls on the legs of her walker. Ellie has tried everything she can to get them balls off the legs of that walker. She is so addicted to tennis balls, just knew those were hers.
Yes, Jim, I noted earlier that there was an update. Goodnight Bluefield crew! Hope Tom has success with that, Sissy. Hey, Jo...I'll never forget one time when I was a kid and brought in a mantis cocoon. I put it on the window sill and forgot about it, until I had hundreds a baby manti ALL OVER my room!!! Mom was less than thrilled...unfortunately, she used the vacuum cleaner to solve the problem! Calling it a day. Two in a row w/ 6am alarm has me slam tuckered out! Peace and prayers...see y'all tomorrow.
I had seen them before on people's walkers but I never thought of it like Ellie did. She just automatically thought it was time to play. Well, I am signing off for the night. Been a long day. Nite nite my fine feather loving friends.
Going to call it a day and hope that tomorrow brings another 'good one'. Must take a moment to thank everyone for prayers for my health as it was 1 year ago that I had this surgery. Time really goes by fast!
Good Night Everyone Peace to you & yours Prayers for all our needs
Not a techie night! Got knocked off again (I think Bigfoot did it!) Opened email & clicked on Paula's link Taa Daa! Artist at work did BF. She just got back from camping vacation in Oregon & was scared to go as she really believes in those kind of creatures!!!She's sending out pics as a gag! I was actually able to see the NZ panda cams at work this PM & Mei was in her den w/tons of bamboo, just stripping vaway. Other cam showed a sleeping hulk! I assume that was Tian. For those of you hitting the hay,Pleasant Feather Dreams ;>)) Gotta end earlier than usual too--work tomorrow--BOO
Yes, it has been a long day, Sissy. Mine started very early this morning (Gene too). Got Mom's air conditioner fixed, took her to the hospital and got her CT scan from her lips to her hips. Went to the pharmacy and got her meds. By then, she felt good enough to go to the Red Lobster in Winchester. The lobster was exceptional! As were the cheese bisquits. I had a mango, bluebery daqueri. Tasted as good as it looked. Mom had a mudslide, Denise had an Eagle Talon (sangria with a lot of fruit) Dustin had 3 cokes.
I don't know if this will interest you, but you might need a graphic equalizer ... listening to the old Reggae, for example.
I am listening to AOL's player, which they are replacing the XM-AOL player with. They had the settings all wrong, and it sounded "Plinky"; so I contacted them asking for more midrange and bass. They did adjust it and improved the sound a lot, but it still needed more, especially bass.
I looked on the INet, found a really pro one, which is kind of high priced, and some others I didn't really examine much.
Then I got the idea that my computer might have one already, so I ran a "Search" for "graphic equalizer" on my "C" drive, and sure enough, my "Creative Labs" sound card has a nice one. I'm still adjusting it, but the music has a lot more "life" to it already.
GOOD SATURDAY MORNING Everyone! Had trouble getting in here, but I won't turn this off again!Trouble if we get new thread..:>O Light rain here--maybe worse around noon, but then passing we hope.

I know the feeling Jim. I have been up at 5 the last 2 mornings, but went to sleep at 10.
Well, it's still cloudy and 67° in So Cal this morning.
It will clear later and rise to the mid 80's, though.
We are going to have a beautiful weekend.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have on my red shirt, red hair and red face. Just call me Red. lol
Hey Red!! I have on my red shirt, have red stripes in my hair, and I am a redneck!
Oh, I'm a redneck too. Thanks for the reminder. :)
Boy, I sure could use an eagle fix.
Had a short one yesterday morning early. One adult briefly.
Tai looks like a typical kid. Toys everywhere.
Man oh man, I wish I was a panda!!
Looks like Mei has a pretty good bed made in the corner.
I have bamboo in my yard, almost enough for one meal. I could be a panda for a little while on that.
I've been thinking of calling the Atlanta zoo and see if they need some bamboo for their Pandas. I have lots of Real Bamboo that has moved into my yard from the neighbors who planted it.
Hi gals and guys! Happy red shirt Fri. to all. Another busy day on this end...think I need a nap!
No RP cam...no still cam...no music! Bummer.
Hey, Red.....are you anywhere near Double Spring? Not sure what part of your state it is in...guess I could look it up on the map...just remember that my cousin said she is about 2 hrs. from Birmingham.
Double springs is South of me. Heck the whole state is south of me. I'm 3 miles south of the Tennessee line. North of Huntsville
She is the park service archaelologist at Bankhead National Forest.
Huntsville is where the space camp is, isn't it?
Mei looks like she has just about buried herself in the nesting material!!! And still chowing down.
Yup, Space Camp is here. Drove by it earlier this week with a special friend.

hope all is well in eagle land
Mei seems restless tonight.
sounds good, Thelma:) yummy
ok as soon as I said that, Mei settled down
helen do you think tonight could be the night?
lol....I think that every night, but I'm guessing it is not written in stone that she will even deliver during the night, I know the cam operators hope it happens durning the day when the keepers are there
she can't get comfortable
i have only fuss at nctc how bout you
I have seen videos from when she had Tai, and the time leading up to the birth, you can actually see contractions.
it's amazing how small they are and how uncomfortable and strong the contractions are?!
I don't even have the cam up, only go there if someone says something is going on..did see the adults last night
August 1
It is the beginning of August and all of us thought we would have an answer to the big question by now!
Never mind that there was ten kilograms of fresh bamboo, nicely refreshed by the mister in the storage shed, waiting in her enclosures.
it just totally amazes me....we are so lucky to be able to witness these events
back in the birthing den
yes-in the den and it is totally amazing
I think she just sneezed
oh dear, she is climbing the bars'''get that bear and epidural:)
back down again...
she sure does need an epidural!!!
do they get epidurals mits
no, they deliver naturally....no outside interference
well i wouldn't think they would get epidurals but my ignorance is do they get anything?
oh okay
zilch..
do you have anything on your NCTC mits?
I don't have it on, Thelma
can't take you eyes off huh Helen :) I can't imagine actually working around her and the closeness you feel cause I feel close and I never see her.
is there anyone lurking that can enlighten me on their cam at NCTC? :)
looks like it is not working, Thelma.....it is an honor and privilege to be at the zoo
still cam looks bad too.
No, Thelma, cam not up! Guess we will be without for the entire weekend!
Mits-Sharon and Mattie are here. I'm going to sweeten my apples that Beverly sent and getting in the showere. Talk to you all later. Love
Hope the cam will not be off all weekend! @#!$#@!!

Interesting update from Dr. McRuer on Buddy!! Not bad info, but tempered with "time will tell."
Who's your Doc, Nilla?
A friend had Dr. Pittaluga, and said if she hadn't already had a heart attack she would have when she saw him because he was so darn handsome! So when my guy had his cath and I met him, and had to agree with her!!
Selma Group in Winchester Va. and Mellott here in town...
Man in town saw some "bears":
3 kids skinny-dipping.
Just had to throw that out. I have live feed and cam, both are gnarly.
Hi Everyone. oxo
Neal S. Gaither, MD
J. Cullen Hardy, MD,
Sturgis is really filling up! Look for the good-looking chick with the camera: That will be our DEB!
(No, I haven't seen her yet.)
Saw several police officers standing around a few minutes ago. Wonder what THEIR 9-1-1 Center is all about this week!
XO
Pittaluga is in with Gaither at Selma, along w/ others.
Hi Margy!! How was your day? Besides 'beary' long?
Cute, Hedgie!
Work was not as busy today...but the week-end is upon us, Youth Fair starts this week, so things will be rocking, I figure.
I go to two midnights and three days starting this week-end,
8-hour days only, first time in years that we have been on 8-hour days!
Heading out the Road: Gotta catch some water balloon time with the grandson!
Love to all, have a nice Friday evening. I have to say:

Slow evening - everyone enjoy!
Good evening everyone. Is my sister out there anywhere?
Sis, Sharon and Thelma are eating 'taters and beans and apples!! Sounds like panda food!

No work tomorrow, but have to go in for a couple of hours on Sunday...
Yeah, I gotta do a couple of hours sometime this weekend, but I am lucky, I do mine at home (or mother-in-law's, as the case may be).
And how is she feeling, Sissy.
hello....the nice thing about the National Zoo is the sound.....you can hear those little pandas yell
She's okay, Paula, sleeping right now. She fell again yesterday while I was here. I am afraid we are getting to the place where we aren't able to keep her safe at home.
Looks like Tai is having a party, I think that is Tai.
Hi Paula Hi Mits
Paula at least you'll get 1 day all your own this weekend!
Mits if that is Tai on Cam 2 - he sure is up late ..
Sissy - if she falls a lot does she
use a walker? Sometimes they are very clumsy to use inside..
I think some people are having trouble getting on the blog...just got an email from Naturenut...so if you are here, don't leave unless you're ready to leave for the night...

Don't really know anything about how Medicare handles home health (I have a feeling they probably don't!) but some respite care might be good for all of you!
Yeah, Tom's brother has been checking into that. We have someone for a few hours a week to kind of fill in between jobs till one of us can get here.
Tia is still partying with the bamboo.
Got kicked out.
Ha Ha Nature...are you getting ready for a certain holiday early....
Glad the link worked for you and Sharon!!
Well, my tired butt is getting ready to go to bed.
Good night and sweet eagle dreams, my friends of fine feathers and fur!

Hi, everybody,
You might have read the update on Buddy already, but in case you haven't, here's a 'bluie link' for you.

Update on Buddy
Oh, I have a funny. We got up here this evening (me and Ellie Mae) and Mrs. Riffe has 2 tennis balls on the legs of her walker. Ellie has tried everything she can to get them balls off the legs of that walker. She is so addicted to tennis balls, just knew those were hers.
Thanks for the link Jim. Saw it posted earlier but hadn't gone to look. Some cool pics.
I have seen that before on walkders, Sissy
Thanks Jim - Buddy still has a ways to go but he is a little trooper!
I had seen them before on people's walkers but I never thought of it like Ellie did. She just automatically thought it was time to play. Well, I am signing off for the night. Been a long day. Nite nite my fine feather loving friends.
Nite Lynn = I did the same thing as you with the mantis cocoon. lol
Sissy - I have seen the walkers with 'brakes'. Maybe that is what you should get for her.
Going to call it a day and hope that tomorrow brings another 'good one'.
Must take a moment to thank everyone for prayers for my health as it was 1 year ago that I had this surgery.
Time really goes by fast!
Good Night Everyone
Peace to you & yours
Prayers for all our needs
((((hugs))))
Not a techie night! Got knocked off again (I think Bigfoot did it!)
Opened email & clicked on Paula's link Taa Daa!
For those of you hitting the hay,Pleasant Feather Dreams ;>))
Gotta end earlier than usual too--work tomorrow--BOO
Yes, it has been a long day, Sissy. Mine started very early this morning (Gene too). Got Mom's
air conditioner fixed, took her to the hospital and got her CT scan from her lips to her hips.
