Jim i thought i saw 2 flying together last week heading towards Shepherdstown from Martinsburg out here on Rt 11 South.. They were flying really low together thats what caught my eye and of course the wing span...

Important Note-
The Osprey Cam is offline so work can be done on the ground around the base of the cam. We expect to be offline for 2-3 weeks.
Sad news from the Maine Discussion forum -- Sheri the Woods Hole osprey that was tagged with a transmitter, injured her legs and had to be euthanized.

We have never seen or heard of any banding of the new chicks from Brisbane. I don't think Frieda or Frodo were ever banded.. They just return to their nesting ledge. Last year Greg thought there was a NEW Frieda.

Good TGIF day to everyone out there. I have spent much of my time this morning reading email and watching Mei, the little lonesome hobbie, and Finney's nest. Missed all our eagle visits.:( What else is new. I have also caught up on the blog and am now ready to get to it.
THE OLYMPICS ARE HERE FINALLY! I will be glued to the set also. I just love watching all of it.
Now I think I will follow JO and get some lunch. BB

Brisbane ledge - Now the cam view is like it was last year. I still have not seen either falcon there.
I wonder if it is a good sign that a cub being born is getting closer and closer the more Mei Sleeps and Sleeps
usually is a good sign, but I have heard nothing from the zoo at all today, and to me that is a bad sign.....it has been 2 days since urine reports.
Maybe they should run some water to give her the urge to give them a urine sample....... lol

Hi ya'll, been a busy beaver today. Running, working, etc. We are never gonna find a cub in all that bamboo if Mei does give us one.
The busy "beaver" was a pun, by the way. Bluefield Beavers!! Getting ready for football season, can't hardly wait. 3 more weeks till the first game.

just remember if they think birth is imminent, they will turn off the cams, but will turn them back on asap.

Yes Jo i had Jazzy the last 3 days and took her to her mother this morning.. She keeps me hoppin for sure.. But i wouldnt have it any other way...She finally got some hair and im able to put lil tiny pony tails on each side in the back.. thats if you can get her to hold still long enough..lol
yes, Nilla, it is off to the side of the middle den......I'm hoping that too, but she isn't doing anything out of the ordinary now...just eating....but they did not expect Tai to come when he did, they had assured everyone on the night watch, her levels had not come down, and even when the cam operator called them repeatedly, they did not believe her.

Helen, just wondering....how long a shift do cam operators/watchers work? Is there only one person or two? What happens if only one and he/she falls asleep and misses a birth?????

According to Chinese culture, today is a very lucky day.We are all excited about the start of the Olympic games. It would be wonderful if some luck was directed at a certain panda den.
Mei Xiang continues to cradle her Kong toy and do some intermittent ano-genital licking. Overnight there was a total 43 minutes of cradling. There were only brief episodes of paw licking and nest building. Mei did some ano-genital licking for a total of 18 minutes overnight and this morning. The longest bout was nine minutes.
We collected one urine sample this morning, but it didn't make it to the facility where we conduct these analyses, so there will be no results for today. Mei has not provided any more urine samples.
I'm just hoping the person that was taking it, did not have an accident or anything....
Hedgie those cameras down there look very complicated to me when i saw them remember Mits we watched them from the hall... Mei is very restless walking out of den now .. up on rocks...
usually just a 3 hour watch and only one person, sometimes that one person will do a double shift...there is a timer right now that goes off every 5 minutes, for us to record what and if anything is going on.....on a mother cub watch that timer will go off every minute, can get really busy on a day shift.

Tom has to work all weekend, Saturday and Sunday. His brother put his mom in a nursing home yesterday, so we are up in the air about that. We were going to go to the lake Sunday but it is not looking too promising.
The nursing home is supposed to be for rehab, so we will see. Keep us in your prayers (pray that we don't kill somebody~!)
Sissy - sounds as though some member of the family did something without
having a Family Conference. Don't dwell on it too much - vent & then let it go... Just take care of Mom.
Prayers are with you because I feel the emotions of what you are going through.

Lun Lun has shown the first signs of entering into the next phase of what could be a pregnancy or pseudopregnancy. This morning when I arrived in the giant panda building, I found her sleeping, which is extremely unusual for her. Usually she is the one who is waiting up for us when we come in the building at 7 a.m. After eating her morning fruit and leafeater biscuits, she would not shift out into the day rooms. After walking away for five minutes, I returned to find her fast asleep in one of her dens. This behavior is also unusual because the pandas will only fall asleep in the late morning after eating a fresh batch of bamboo. Lun Lun slept in this morning until about 11 a.m., and then woke up and started to finally eat. If this pattern continues, we should see signs of decreased activity and decreased appetite for the next few weeks. These behaviors are normal and expected, but at this time, we still have no way of knowing whether or not Lun Lun is pregnant. While we’re very optimistic, it’s still important to remember that giant panda pseudopregnancy mimics pregnancy so closely that there’s no way to know for sure which condition Lun Lun is currently experiencing. Cross your fingers and stay tuned!

That's good, Helen...would hate to think that she is exposed to light all night; then she would really know she's on display and being watched! LOL.
