WOWEEE, can't believe this retarded 'puter opened the new thread!! Very quiet here on the Pax River. Due to rain, most people have cancelled kayak/canoe rentals.
Have seen hummers, squirrels, cardinals & goldfinches so far. NO Bigfoot!

This morning at about 7am, Mei was literally climbing the walls. She was peeping in the window of a door and then began to climb the walls. I would guess she was trying to get inside. She is a very frustrated animal.

I am going to try to sign on a work a little bit this morning. Tom is in there with this mom napping and watching westerns (he is in heaven, all of his favorite things, Mom, home, and westerns).
Reckon maybe Sharon, Thelma, and Mattie go to go to Smith Mountain Lake. I haven't talked to her this morning.
Hey, Sissy, Capt. Eagle likes Westerns too. He will sit for hours watching old westerns.

Hey, local folk...Southern States in Ranson (just down the street from my daughter) was hit by lightening last night, and gutted.
Southern part of county and Jefferson really got slammed by storm, but not bad back here in the NW corner of Berkeley!

Lynn, we had the storm last night, too, but nothing more than a good, soaking rain. Then, early this morning, another small storm, lasting only a few minutes. I can hear our garden saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Hedge, the monster was made by girl I work w/because she just had camping vacation in OR & is afraid of things that might be in the woods!! So has nothing to do w/Oct. holiday.She's going to send it around as something she dwnlded from her camera w/vacation pictures!!!
Other bird I just saw was osprey talking away in a tree, but of course flew away when I tried to get his pic.
The thunder is rollin' here, looks like another storm is moving through. Not been anything big though, just summer storm.
Well, I am going to give it a shot too this morning, er, I mean AFTERNOON! Stayed up late, went to bed with the storms at 3:30 -
and stayed in bed as long as I could. Go to work at midnight tonight so figured I better get a bank of sleep in early.

Panda Birthdays

Our sibling pandas will be celebrating their birthdays this weekend. Zhen Zhen is turning one this Sunday, and Su Lin will be three on Saturday. What a treat it has been to watch each of these two pandas grow. Just think about how small they started out, only ounces in weight!
We will be celebrating this joyous occasion with extra special treats for our birthday girls. The birthday treats will be put out both in the morning and again in the afternoon. Come stop by the Giant Panda Research Station to wish the girls a happy birthday or catch a glimpse of the fun on Panda Cam!

Hey Sher, sorry about your sciatica. When did that start? We just had a horrendous storm blow threw here. Had to shut down the puter. Now the sun is shining and it is beautiful. Gonna try to get some work done.

At 155 PM EDT...Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 5 miles north of Clear Spring to 12 miles north of Highfield PA...moving southeast at 20 mph. These storms will be capable of producing brief heavy rainfall...small hail and wind gusts to 40 mph. A tenth to a quarter of an inch of rainfall is expected with this activity. The communities of Long Meadow... Hagerstown...Emmitsburg and Thurmont will likely be affected through 330 PM EDT. I can see this storm going by us now..thank goodness we're missing it here.

I was on phone with daughter in Clear Spring Area - It may have blown over them - she heard thunder but the rain didn't hit them. I can hear it coming into the valley now..
Will be going to church later - last Saturday is when the storm came up as we were ready to leave church at 6pm. Oh well, it's the weekend - what else could we expect?

Jefferson County was getting some lightning thunder and rain when I left there around 6:45 - - looked like some it was hitting more South of there.
Southern States Co-Op store in Ranson was standing, but all around the windows looked scorched - now all the windows (if they are still there) are boarded up with plywood...guess it took that hit, HEDGIE, that you mentioned much earlier..
Maybe I shouldn't say this, but rather a "Gentleman's Club" than a Feed and Plant store would have been better!
Heading down for a nap soon, due in at midnight.

We drove to Mass with white fluffy clouds & sunshine because the rain/hail storm had passed. Coming out of Mass was a different story with more rain coming down. Priest said it was the first time he ever had to ask us to leave.. lol

We got rain at about 6PM with sun too.Must have been a rainbow somewhere. Later it got cloudy & big black cloud was doing thunder & lightning around 8 PM, but no more rain. Will miss ISS.

On my way out of Park, had to stop by eagle nest area. Couldn't see anything but heard some squealing which was probably ospreys. I'm gonna have to study up on their sound differences!!
A little further up the road, a strange black bird(foot)flew next to my car and went in a tree. It looked at first like a small turkey, but is probably an immature vulture. Had yellow legs--took pics--hope I got him.Nothing like a good mystery!!
MEMA: Did you see it? I got up from nap....musta missed the very first part of it then: WHAM! There it was! Bright little rascal all right, brighter than Jupiter, went straight across from NNW to NNE - I moved to get a better view away from some tall trees, and it had plum disappeared! Guess it got away from the Sun! Whew! Well, more Sunday night. Back to bed for another 60 minutes for me..

Good morning everyone. No panda cub yet. Our cam is acting up. Our neighborhood was without electricity for 15 hours yesterday. This has never happened. Thank heaven it was not hot yesterday. Worried about my neighbor who just got home from the hospital. She did well. She was worried about her dog. All have a good day. Sunny day in Baltimore. Home of the Star Spangled Banner.
Good morning Ceil. Was just watching Mei Xiang. She was looking out the window of the door in the birthing den and somebody came by and patted her hand. That was so cute! Then they put a piece of bamboo through the hole.

Its a lovely bright sunny day here,, birds singing,,those that are still here,,my beautiful Swifts have left for Africa except for a few stragglers and they will be gone by lunchtime I would think,,,oh how I'll miss them so,,,,,
Frank is in bed after his nightshift, Matt and Natalie are planning a day trip out somewhere,,the cats have had their breakfasts and are both back in bed,,,,
I've cooked a large batch of pancakes for breakfast and about to go and start the veg for Sunday Dinner,,,,,
Watching Darling Mei,,,she has had a little bamboo and played with her nest this morning,, had a couple of big drinks,, had a poo and a wee,, and gone back into the birthing den to lie on the concrete block and now is napping a little,,,,,
Mei popped out again to bring in some bamboo,,sitting in the corner of the birthing den eating a little,, left back leg up on the wall,,now she is licking her nether parts again,,she hears something and looks to the right of her,,she seems a little nervous today,,back to licking again,,,,,,
Gobbo [Tai Shan] has done his rounds and now is sitting eating bamboo,lying back like daddy,,leaning on his fav log in the sunshine,,,,,,,

Hi Sharon and Chrissy, Popping in before I go get some breakfast. Send some of those pancakes Chrissy. Sharon I was watching Mei when they were putting the bamboo in the window. Those keepers are so good to those animals. Off to get some chow.
My one neighbor who had electricity has my eggs. That is the only thing I wanted to save. They are organic and cost $3.45 a dozen and I just got them Friday night. Bye.

after the great tragedy in China, with the devastating earthquake, it would be nice if both zoos had cubs....I would love to pet one of the pandas one day, but they are very strict with volunteers being in places they should not be..., but someday:)

I'm so sorry,, I thought you could you know,,, how silly of me is that,,, I took it for granted that you had already petted Gobbo when he was a tiddler,, forgive me please,, to be so near and not be able to hold him,, that would just kill me,,,,
We had a program here last night on Animal Planet,, I didn't like it much but it was what it was,,, they had tourists visiting Wolong,, and they had them sitting in chairs and one of the keepers would bring a baby panda and put it on thesae peoples knees for photos,, I thought it degraded the Panda,, it looked so contrived pet,,, they just kept shoving carrot in the babies mouth till the photo was taken,, all its dignity taken away,, made me cry,,,,,
There doesn't seem to be anymore news about the wild panda's in Wolong Provence does there,, unless I've not been looking in the right place,,,again,,,,???
Right pet,, I'd better go and get dressed,, can't sit here in my nighty all day can I,,,

Chrissy, they are China's' animals, but the National Zoo, treats all of its animals with a lot of love and respect....it doesn't bother me not to touch them, just love talking about them and the other animals on the Asian Trail.....I know they are trying to find out the fate of wild pandas, but think they have alot more on their plate in finding the missing people and burying them.
