FRIDAY'S UPDATE FROM ATLANTA Friday, August 22 No surprise here, but Lun Lun is continuing to sleep the days away. About the only thing that has changed in the last few days is that as of yesterday, she has gone off eating her biscuits, apple and pear. Basically all she’s willing to eat is sugarcane, banana (without the peel) and a few handfuls of bamboo leaves. This is something that we want to see as she gets closer to a potential birth, as food intake becomes less of a priority. Unfortunately, this means she is also less likely to come close to us so that we can check the status of any physical changes she might be experiencing, which also means ultrasound is out of the question. We just have to take the opportunity to check her out if she decides to lie in a position that lets us see her vulva. This most likely means it would be at a distance, and sometimes is hard to accurately judge. She did allow me about one minute of training this a.m., but was for the most part unresponsive. Hopefully this suspense will end soon. Joseph T. Svoke Giant Panda Keeper II, Carnivore Department
Thanks, HEDGIE... it's taking awhile to cool down but it sure feels better... good thing, or I would not have gotten to my cleaning! Friday night date with the vacuum cleaner, what fun ! It's got to be done though.. xo Good Friday Evening Everyone !
Trust me, though, I am not complaining about housework, I am grateful to have a roof over my head...and it is kinda nice to see some of my special things again! Yes, it was THAT BAD !
And I'm ready to stop at the drop of an Eagle Feather! But I have to force myself to stay off the other sites until I get some of this done....I did just have a peek at Okie bird cam and saw a nice buck, and no chicks at WildWatch Osprey.... but that's it! Back to Work ! xo
Good Evening I know you can't hear me, Margie with the vacuum running! Had a nice early eve with daughter at the Mall - came home with one new shirt I found & it was on sale! Dinner at Applebee's & then home. Late cup of coffee for now. Don't see any thing in our nest.. :( I best check out Down Under's ledge
Did you find anything that you forgot you had, Margy? I've always found that to be FUN!!!! You will really feel like you've accomplished alot when you bed down for the night!
It was good, Mits. Very windy in the morning, but it calmed down this afternoon.
The osprey are starting to venture further from the hack tower, but most still come back at least once a day. We have two pro fishing osprey that are on their own already.
Little Gabby is making progress, but Janie reminds us to not get our hopes up too much. When you get to hold them, it is easy to become attached to them.
No, really - I did find some pictures/negatives that I have been looking for, and lovingly dusted all my birdie music boxes... also found a few cassette tapes, including one wild Yodeling tape, so that one went in as soon as the A/C was back and I could shut the windows!
Margy, we are superstitious and renamed Sneezy. He is now called Gabby after the man who started the Raptor program at U of Minnesota. He is eating on his own and gaining weight, but has a ways to go yet.
Helen, I loved the pictures of Beauty that you sent out. Next step is in October, then the final fitting should be next spring. The good news is Beauty has been granted status as an educational bird and will be able to live even if the final beak doesn't work. The rules on keeping these birds are very strict, but Janie is very persuasive when she is passionate about saving a raptor that man has injured.
There are more pictures showing Frieda on her nest day AND NIGHT posted on Froona's blog. I think Frieda could lay anytime, although there are no mating pics showing.
The official Frodo site either doesn't have many pics or is not displaying them.
I think Froona must have a timer or something judging by the number she has at all hours.
I was glad to hear it, too. I was so worried when I first heard that if it didn't work she would have to be put down. Janie's main point was that she can use Beauty to educate young people on whose responsibility it is to protect wildlife.
ya know there are some nasty ignorant people in this world, either by what they say, or what they do.....went down to my car today, and someone stole my 2 magnets on the back of my car...one was an American flag, that said GOD BLESS AMERICA...and the other was an OVARIAN CANCER MAGNET, my Mother -In-Law died from this disease 4 years ago, and this is how long I have had it on my car.....:(
We had a high school biology class in today. They were very informed and had lots of questions. Their teacher is great and loves this project. He has helped out quite a bit, even lending his boat to the water rescues that happened.
We had Janie going for awhile, she would ask questions of the class and we would mime answers for them. She was so impressed with all they knew. The laughter finally gave us away, but you know that the kids will remember what they heard today.
Mits, I had that happen w/ my patriot magnet a few years ago. I bought another one and lifted up the rear wiper blade and put it on over the arm and that at least made it more difficult for anyone to swipe! LOL...in the COLD of Feb., I couldn't get the magnet loose when I traded in...and GMAC charged me $30 for having left it on! (I do SmartBuy, wherein I just pay for three years and then turn it in and start over with something new....kind of an extended lease!) But you are right...people are ignorant!!!
I think I am wrong about the falcon. I put up the pop up cam and the time is wrong and doesn't change. I thought it would be like our pop up and be current.
Mits, I'm sorry to hear of the magnet thieves. You don't suppose it was just some little kids, who thought they might have a use for some magnets sometime, do you?
that sounds like a good idea, Lynn...my car is over 8 years old now....and I love it but am getting antsy for a new one...I have never owned a car this long in my life
no Jim......we have alot of people come down here from a state up north.....and they love to drink and damage things....and act like they own the joint....and if it was kids that did it, the parents would do nothing about it
MITS - I am really sorry about those magnets...I can't make any sense out of it...maybe a prayer for the poor heartless soul out there...that would something so hurtful... .....sigh......xo
I clicked on the pics every 10 seconds and it was stuck on 11:01. I finally noticed the bird wasn't moving an inch and checked the time. I am trying it again.
going to shut down for the night...hubby is at the O's game up in Baltimore, and says he is going to drive down tonight....and I'm not a happy camper about that....so, GOOD NIGHT EVRYONE.....LYNN got myself some Hydrox cookies from the store.....and I well remember the Charles chips.......yummmmmmy!
The South Dakota pole vaulter at the Olympics came in fourth place. It would have been nice if he could have medaled, but fourth place is still pretty good.
I also found an old home-made cassette tape of Oldies songs - "Blue Moon" is on, Slow Twistin' just ended. And Before that, Bird Dog... sorry guys this has nothing to do with birds, but these songs are great ! I should clean house more often !
I'm waiting for the sea eagles to visit. I wonder if they were just resting up for the big trip south. I will have to double check and see if they migrate, instead of just assuming they do.
It sounds like they spend the winter in the southern part of Finland and can occasionally be found in the north. I looked in many places for the answer, but what I found was on a photography site.
DEB - Can you tell me what part of Finland these nests are in, and how close together they might be, two Finney's nests we are watching...I can look it up in awhile too... I hope they show up before 1 o'clock or so like they did last night.. Water sure looks nice and still, doesn't it..
I am "Slam Wore Out". (love that expression)(Sharon or Sissy?) It has been a long day. GeeGee and I had a fun evening; she felt good and ate quite a bit. She said "I can't believe it...I'm 88 years old and still having fun with my daughter. Made me feel so good! Capt. Gene is coming home tomorrow. So glad...I really miss him in the evenings.
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE SLEEP TIGHT PRAYERS FOR ALL.....WAKE UP MASON
Helen, are you enjoying chips and cookies together? I used to do that...the chips cut down on the sweetness!! OK, call me weird!! I'm sure you'll be happy to have Jubby home. And I know Wanda can't wait for the Captain!! Sounds like a neat tape, Margy!
It is after midnight - everyone on here are now known as Night Owls
I sure did lose track of time this evening. I am off to bed but had to say Good Night all my friends.. Peace to you and yours.. Prayers for all being said..
I think this is a picture of Finney's youngest eyass feeding on a fish she caught herself!
I was about to shut everything down, and was looking at an empty, sunny nest, wondering if she had migrated, when she suddenly appeared.
She was mantling and looking ferociously in several directions as if about to be attacked and screeching at something. Then she just stopped doing that whole group of behaviors and settled down to feeding on her fish, which she had clutched in her talons, but which I hadn't seen before.
weather is gorgeous......hubby called last night around 11 o'clock, decided to stay at our sons' home....thank God...they had gone to the game together...and the lucky duck gets to see the M&M girls:)

Hi, everyone, sounds like a good day on the blog, with everyone enjoying Paula's name game.
Hi, Deb, how was your day?

How wonderful....
How is Sneezy doing?
By the way, Mom and two chicks at Wildwatch - at least at this moment..
HEDGIE: Yes, I found my dust rags! HA HA HA -
No, really - I did find some pictures/negatives that I have been looking for, and lovingly dusted all my birdie music boxes...
also found a few cassette tapes, including one wild Yodeling tape, so that one went in as soon as the A/C was back and I could shut the windows!
Love ya'
Looks like a little black mink with a white fur stole in OUR nest..
oh those night-time illusions are too much!
xo
Margy, we are superstitious and renamed Sneezy. He is now called Gabby after the man who started the Raptor program at U of Minnesota. He is eating on his own and gaining weight, but has a ways to go yet.
Oh, that's a good name, and a nice tribute to the fellow at U MINN.
Soon maybe they will be naming one DEB....eh?
Helen, I loved the pictures of Beauty that you sent out. Next step is in October, then the final fitting should be next spring. The good news is Beauty has been granted status as an educational bird and will be able to live even if the final beak doesn't work. The rules on keeping these birds are very strict, but Janie is very persuasive when she is passionate about saving a raptor that man has injured.
I'm glad about that Deb.....feel better knowing she will be protected and loved...she is a BEAUTY
Ha, good one, Margy. The bad thing about getting so involved with the osprey is they are going to leave soon and then we will all be a little lost.
Check the link below.

Frieda by day and by night
I was glad to hear it, too. I was so worried when I first heard that if it didn't work she would have to be put down. Janie's main point was that she can use Beauty to educate young people on whose responsibility it is to protect wildlife.
ya know there are some nasty ignorant people in this world, either by what they say, or what they do.....went down to my car today, and someone stole my 2 magnets on the back of my car...one was an American flag, that said GOD BLESS AMERICA...and the other was an OVARIAN CANCER MAGNET, my Mother -In-Law died from this disease 4 years ago, and this is how long I have had it on my car.....:(
100% agre....Deb, teach the youth.
There is a falcon there, now, Jim!
I have it on Deb, must have missed it
We had a high school biology class in today.
I don't see any new blogs or articles at the SD Zoo, BUT there are a couple of new video clips you should see.
One is on the lion cubs, and the newest one is on a new baby (6' 2", 145 lb.) giraffe.

Jim
I think Froona lives on the ledge.....:)
I must have missed the falcon, Deb.
Mits, I'm sorry to hear of the magnet thieves. You don't suppose it was just some little kids, who thought they might have a use for some magnets sometime, do you?
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
that sounds like a good idea, Lynn...my car is over 8 years old now....and I love it but am getting antsy for a new one...I have never owned a car this long in my life
no Jim......we have alot of people come down here from a state up north.....and they love to drink and damage things....and act like they own the joint....and if it was kids that did it, the parents would do nothing about it
MITS - I am really sorry about those magnets...I can't make any sense out of it...maybe a prayer for the poor heartless soul out there...that would something so hurtful...
.....sigh......xo
Margy, if they only realized life is uncertain.....Deb my falcon cams have correct time ii:45 a.m. August 23rd
oooppppss that is 11:45a.m.
I clicked on the pics every 10 seconds and it was stuck on 11:01. I finally noticed the bird wasn't moving an inch and checked the time. I am trying it again.
It is working now, maybe I did something wrong, go figure.
going to shut down for the night...hubby is at the O's game up in Baltimore, and says he is going to drive down tonight....and I'm not a happy camper about that....so, GOOD NIGHT EVRYONE.....LYNN got myself some Hydrox cookies from the store.....and I well remember the Charles chips.......yummmmmmy!
I should clean house more often !
how wonderful, Deb....
Morning is breaking in Finland...
nothing in either nest at this time..
The Osprey chick was on the other nest very briefly, is gone now, I just caught a short glimpse of it about 15 minutes ago...then Poof, gone.
I'm going back and forth between computer room and bedroom so I might have missed some of it too...
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
SLEEP TIGHT
PRAYERS FOR ALL.....WAKE UP MASON
Helen, are you enjoying chips and cookies together? I used to do that...the chips cut down on the sweetness!! OK, call me weird!!
I'm sure you'll be happy to have Jubby home. And I know Wanda can't wait for the Captain!!
Sounds like a neat tape, Margy!
MARGY...BEDTIME!
Good Night, Wanda, sorry I missed you. I love to hear about your family things...
Your Mom, she's something else!
xo
BEDTIME LYNN!
Finneys on the water is beautiful this "morning"--but MT nest.
That is such an awesome Osprey, in the Finney nest right now..
Yes, Wanda mama!!! It is. Goodnight all. Pleasant dreams. God bless all! Wake up, Mason!
It is after midnight - everyone on here are now known as Night Owls
I sure did lose track of time this evening. I am off to bed but had to say
Good Night all my friends..
Peace to you and yours..
Prayers for all being said..
WAKE UP NOW MASON
Psst.... You should see those 2 sea eagles!!! Awesome.....
Oh Mema - Glad you see them too!
I was forcing myself to get some things done and just now got back on the computer...
Good Night, but I bet I missed you...I might be the only Night Owl left.....??
xo
Yepper! You're a Hoot!!!!
((hugs)) Night!
You know, those Sea Eagles, their coloring, is fantastic!
NOT as pretty as Liberty and Belle, though....
7:30 am their time, 12:3o am our time...
Somehow that chick at Finney's got food...I don't think he brought it in with him, but I didn't see the adult bring it in either...
There's four more pictures in the Sea Eagles album, and Jo has posted two on Yahoo....Nice!
Good Night...All
Take Care, and Prayers
xo
...WAKE UP MASON...
I like the name of the TGIF thread Sharon/Steve.
Here's my version of TGIF-Thank God I'm Forgiven-I like it. :)
good morning eagle land
Might as well say
A VERY GOOD SATURDAY MORNING TO YOU ***
I crashed and missed "good night" at a reasonable hour....

Jim
Hey Jim-does that mean you're going to bed now or waking up? :)
Do we have any eagles out there this morning?
I think this is a picture of Finney's youngest eyass feeding on a fish she caught herself!
I was about to shut everything down, and was looking at an empty, sunny nest, wondering if she had migrated, when she suddenly appeared.
She was mantling and looking ferociously in several directions as if about to be attacked and screeching at something. Then she just stopped doing that whole group of behaviors and settled down to feeding on her fish, which she had clutched in her talons, but which I hadn't seen before.
Chick is fishing
good morning everyone....WAKE UP MASON:)
GOOD MORNING HELEN...
How's the weather at the beach this morning...did Jubby get home ok?
It is 59° here...sunny and hot later.I haven't seen our Royal Couple for several days now. They are teasing us!
weather is gorgeous......hubby called last night around 11 o'clock, decided to stay at our sons' home....thank God...they had gone to the game together...and the lucky duck gets to see the M&M girls:)
Jim.....Finney is too young to have a chick...that is his nest from last year
