Whoops! Looks like I did the split! And at this hour of the morning, too!
Whoo!

To change the subject, later today I need to load a couple of pictures from my camera to my laptop. We were really surprised at how much water is in the Santa Ana River! One day's rain made a noticeable difference. The water level had gone down after a couple of days of drying out, but now it's gone back up again. Not flood stage or anything, but noteworthy.
Took a picture of it. BTW, work WAS progressing on the bird sanctuary they are making at the River near us. Nothing going on now. Too much water in there to work on it.

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, (yawn!) going back to bed now.
I see that the night light is on. The porch light and Christmas lights are on, too. Prayers said for everyone. The eye-scanner security (don't worry, Judie, you have SPECIAL clearance!) and Dana's thumbprint-scanner security are enabled. Sweet dreams of our eagles, everyone, and I'll talk to you later today. God bless, and good night/morning! Love you guys! :o]

Good early Morning Andy Good Morning Margy...my live feed is black and white lines. I even set my alarm so I could see the eagles today ha ha on me.

I think this antibotic isn't the right one but have 6 more days so maybe it will kick in.

wvgal_dana said...

Margy when I read your comment about "red Friday" you made me look at what shirt I had put on. I'm ok red apples. It was funny though...you saying me looking lol

Good morning. ???? Is it? NO cams again/still. Stinks, doesn't it???

Margy, so sorry about you having to double back. Happy New Year to you, too! May 2011 bring only good things for us all!

stronghunter said...

Hi,

A quick good morning to everyone. Much to do today. I see the cam is down. Boo! I'll bet our eagles are busy at the nest right now.

I will see you later.

hedgie said...

Andy, sounds like Emma is learning to mind much better than Mai is. The playful nipping is a real problem. Can't even hold her on my lap anymore. They say to just walk away when they start....but she follows and is then on my heels or legs or jumping to reach my hands. Spray bottle doesn't help---she LIKES the water mist on her face. Not sure what to do. I make the puppy ouch noises....and that only stops her for 2 seconds. I am tired of wearing bandaids!!! Help, Lynne, or dog nanny or Mr. Chavez!!!!!

wvgal_dana said...

Good Morning Hedgie-Lynn and Shirley ( :

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE DAY EVERYONE!!

I loved what Jo said about the feeties in her email lol

wvgal_dana said...

Lynn-Hedgie try going over to PetSmart and talking to the lady that helps do the training. I know she would have some answers. Boy she did when Dozer was a puppy and with Little Man. Call find out when she/he is in to talk in person to. Take Mai with you if you can if not just talk with him/her yourself.

Little Man actually has his degree from their and that mean't interacting with other DOGS!!!!!!

Susan said...

Is anyone else having trouble with the live feed? All I'm getting are black and white lines.

hedgie said...

Sent Steve an email abut the cams.

Susan said...

Thanks, Hedgie. I'm anxious to start watching the eagles again!

wvgal_dana said...

Good Morning Susan sorry I can't stick around to talk.

Need to head to town.

take care be safe in travels

Happy New Year to EVERYONE

wvgal_dana said...

To all at NCTC trying to make this live feed work for us. I want to thank you for all the time you have spent this year and with the other cams over the years. I could not have learn't as much about eagles without your help and these cams and the blog.

I want to wish ALL AT NCTC A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR ! GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU !! Thank You

hedgie said...

Sent Steve an email about the cams being down and also asked if the zoom could be sacrificed for the infrared......here is his response:

Lynn,

Our expectation was that the infrared would work on this cam like on previous ones. There may be additional work to make it work better. The still cam is run through Denver and they often use holiday times to do necessary network maintenance on the entire FWS network, thus the fact that the still cam is turned off.

The cam in the tree will have to stay as it is, we are not able to go back up in the tree without consultation with our endangered species office. We pulled it off last year but don't want to do it again as the eagles saw Nu in the nest, and the tree is deteriorating pretty badly.

Nu was not able to get a turtle shell. He was in a body harness hanging from a 125 foot crane, it was snowing hard and the wind was blowing with 15 degree wind chill. Unfortunately with all those factors the shells were not in his mix, getting the camera installed and dead tree limbs trimmed were. I feel bad, but we are really lucky that we were able to install the camera at all. Remember the other camera in the tree had a short and was not working.

We all really appreciate your support, but you must understand that this project is a labor of love that is done by folks in addition to their normal work. Case in point, my wife is really irked at me right now because I am on leave, but am logged in the email system checking emails and essentially working.

Happy New Year. We'll continue to do the best we can with the time and resources available.

Steve

grannyblt said...

I for one, appreciate all your time and that of the crew to bring us this opportunity to observe the eagle nest.

paula eagleholic said...

Morning, all.

I see Lynn sent Steve an email about the live feed. I wonder if NCTC is off for the day?

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning this Last Day of 2010
Thank you Steve for your reply & I for one of many do appreciate all that you and your staff do for the love of the eagles. Wishing you and your family a blessed year ahead.
Thank you Lynn for sending the message

I am off to spend most of the day with Samantha before her other set of grandparents take her home on Saturday. She was left behind to enjoy time with all her cousins due to the car being packed tight without a seat left for her!

I'll be back before the new year begins.

hedgie said...

Enjoy your day, Jo. Poor Samantha----no room for her! Bet she didn't really mind a bit, did she??? Know you all will miss her when she leaves!

Mema Jo said...

Lynn, I think she has been too busy spending the night at all different places that she really hasn't had time for any after thoughts.
I think Izzy keeps going into Sammy's bedroom saying "This is Sammy's room"
Like - Where is she, Mom!

Mema Jo said...

You gotta love Sue on the Bear center:

"I woke way too early this morning and checked the den cam from my phone before getting up. I saw glowing eyes moving around. I watched off an on for half an hour as the eyes appeared and disappeared from sight. I finally saw what I was hoping to see -- 2 sets of glowing eyes! -- SM"

Whoo Hoo !

paula eagleholic said...

Andy, so glad hubby is in love with Emma! But I bet you knew that would happen!

hedgie said...

LOL.....Izzy is a smart cookie!!!

Saw that on FB from Sue, too, Jo!!!
Sure hope the snow doesn't keep them from making adjustments today!

paula eagleholic said...

Yay, thanks for that report Jo!

hedgie said...

Well, it is already looking better!! Daylight making the difference??? Don't see any slobber smears!

hedgie said...

Dana, thanks for info about PetSmart. I will definitely check into it. I was going to enroll for Adunt & Community Ed class but it doesn't start until April!
Where did you do it? Hagerstown? I hope ours has it!

BEagle said...

Hello Eagle Fans.

CLady..You just might need a new keyboard. Makes me laugh but it is still readable!

BEagle said...

There are two adults on the TH nest and two on the WE nest.

Have not seen "H.P." though.

BEagle said...

The Eagles4kids website is impressive. The children built the website with the assistance of their teacher it seems.

Third and fourth graders. I tried to think of what I did in school at that age. No cell phones, no color TV, and certainly no computers. Isn't that a trip?

hedgie said...

According to the website, Petsmart here does have training classes. Will have to call to see when it is.

BEagle said...

The Eagles4kids website has a lot of history on the progress of the cam installation.

It shows me what it takes, behind the scenes, to put something like this together...the cam and web page and etc.

Not to mention that eagles don't like their nests messed with.

Lolly said...

Good morning! Looks like Wanda has already been celebrating the New Year. LOL She "sounded" a wee bit tipsy!

Loved Sue's comment on fb about the two sets of eyes. Have been watching. Think I have seen movement, but no sets of eyes.

No live cam for us and afraid it will be that way for the weekend. However, we KNOW there are eagles visiting the nest, so I am at peace.

Really appreciate Steve's response. I fully understand that they thought the infared would work and understand why they can not go back up. They even thought of the turtle shells! I for one like the new angle of the cam and the clear picture. Still do not understand why we do not have better color.?????? And, look forward to seeing them zoom in on a chick or two!

A big THANKS to NCTC!

hedgie said...

Cool beans, as my aunt Betty used to say! Enrolled for a puppy class starting Fri. the 7th! 8 weeks. Class size never exceeds 8, averages 4. Good socialization opportunity! $115---not bad!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dana!!!

BEagle said...

So...

in conclusion, after reading the candid response from Steve (via Hedgie,) I feel fortunate that we have a cam in WV in order to view some of nature's beauty. I am referring to Liberty and Belle.

Lolly said...

So excited! Just saw a good look at Lily. Maybe they are in the area to work on the cam.

Lolly said...

Lily has gone out of sight now but I got a good look at her face. I have missed seeing her. Welcome back Lily!

Lolly said...

Yea, Lynn. Glad you do not have to wait for April. Mai does need the socialization as well as the training. Hope the weather cooperates so that you are able to safely get to classes.

Lolly said...

I need help.

BEagle said...

and...

the cam may have technical problems at the moment but the diligence that is communicated by Steve, that work is accomplished by volunteer efforts, will have it's rewards soon enough.

Lolly said...

I need the info to remove the "security warning" message. I have been given it before and probably have it around here somewhere, but who knows where. I have been having to click on the warning for every post on this new laptop. Would appreciate help and will file the info this time. Promise! :)

Lolly said...

I must say, I am enjoying my lazy morning today. Rushing to Denton and working all day at such a sad task has taken it out of me.

LOL Loved your comment to Joey, Wanda on the video. He did do a good (and funny)job on the Christmas video.

hedgie said...

Wanda, try unplugging keyboard and then replug and reboot! Funny language therem kiddo!

The turtle shell retrieval was requested (by me) for Jo prior to the nest invasion, Lolly!

Eagles4Kids is amazing, BEagle! Kids are so smart with technology, aren't they?

movin said...

Hahahaha. I signed in on the wrong thread. Still don't know how; I was looking at the latest pic of Liberty and Belle.

BEagle said...

Lolly,

Is the warning coming up as part of the web browser? What web browser are you using?

Or is it coming up in a separate window?

hedgie said...

Lolly, don't have it saved on laptop. Maybe Shar or Sissy will chime in. If not I'll get on PC later after I return from errands.

movin said...

Neither of the cams is working for me this morning. Is that right??

C(°Ù¿°)D Jim

hedgie said...

Yes, Jim. Scroll up and read my message from Steve. :(

Lolly said...

Right, Jim. Both cams are cattywampus! Grrrr!

The warning pops up. Someone on here knows how to do the computer settings so that it allows the avatars and the warning does not have to be clicked at every post.

Thanks Lynn! I know I will get help when they see my post.

I agree with Lolly. Wanda is tipsy-ing right along into 2011.

Lily made a brief appearance and looked a bit apprehensive. So nice to see her -- now for a sight of Hope.

Lynn, so glad you got Mai into a class. It will make adjustments easier for you both.

Okay, back to the books.

Sharon, thank you! I knew you would come through with the info. Have accomplished the task and I promise to file it so I know where it is. LOL Thank you, again. When we start posting fast when eagles in the nest it is a pain to have to click the security warning.

BEagle said...

I got the corned beef, the cabbage, the B/E peas, cornbread fixings, but forgot the potatoes. A run to the store will help that.

Got to see a good snoot shot and ear shot at the bear cam before snooze. : )

BBL

BEagle said...

Oh, I better check to make sure I have a dime for the cabbage. Members of my family always check that. : )

BEagle said...

Later.

Lolly said...

dime for the cabbage?

paula eagleholic said...

Yea, me too. Spill the beans, er cabbage, BEagle.

BEagle said...

Old Irish tradition from my mother. A dime to bring good luck in for the new year...cooked in with the cabbage.

BEagle said...

Corned beef and cabbage with a dime cooked in there.

hedgie said...

I'm back. Good to see that the Lily cam is situated nicely. From what I understood them to say, there is going to be a second cam outside that will show any out-of-den activity. Not sure when it will be up and ready, tho'.
Picture is very clear.....no snow showing now. I see a collar!

Thanks, Shar!!! Knew you would come through for Lolly!

hedgie said...

All of your meals sound yummy!
I decided to postpone chili until tomorrow since it is supposed to be rainy and damp. Stopped to get ribs from the BBQ Wagon----closed due to out-of-town death in the family. :( Don't think I have any pork in the freezer, either. If I do, I'll cook them tomorrow. Do have shredded cabbage for slaw. If not, chili it will be. Tonight??? I think I'll make a skizza!

hedgie said...

It is currently 50° here----yippee. We're havin' us a heat wave!

glo said...

Happy New Year everyone.

paula eagleholic said...

A skizza? Is that a skinny pizza?

Have a good one, Glo.

paula eagleholic said...

Lynn, I did see them panning on another cam, may have been a quick yest

paula eagleholic said...

Oops, test!

hedgie said...

A skizza is a pita stuffed with pepperoni, provolone and pizza sauce and nuked til cheese melts!
It was a feature item on our menu when we had our Mountain Snow shop.

hedgie said...

I never did find the split screen instructions that bear folks said a viewer had shared on FB......guessing it was so that both cams could be up at once, but haven't even seen a link to the 2nd cam.....where did you see the test, Paula?

movin said...

Have a great Eve and a better New Year, Everybody.

C(°Ù¿°)D Jim

paula eagleholic said...

It was on the Lily cam, all of a sudden the view changed to the outside.

By split screen, I think they are talking about just having 2 screens up and resizing them so you can view side by side. I saw that chat on there yesterday on the pond cam.

hedgie said...

Happy New Year to you, too, Jim! Are you partying tonight??? Be careful----it's a jungle out there!

hedgie said...

For locals: ever seen the ShenValRA designation on the TV weather maps? It's a small airport between Staunton and Harrisonburg, VA---there was a mid-air collision there today between a small plane and a helicopter----2 dead.

Lolly said...

I am back. We ran to the grocery store to get a few items. On the menu tonight...stuffed jalapenos for "orders", the three cheese risotto, followed by fillets topped with asparagus and blue cheese. Yummy!

I think the cam automatically switches from the bears to scan the outside, then back to the bears. It seems pretty regular.

Lolly said...

found this...

There are 2 cameras connected to the system. One camera is a small camera that is placed inside the bear den. This is a day color/night infrared (IR) camera which can see in complete darkness. The second camera is installed outside the den and is a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera, which will be used to watch and follow the bears if they come out of the den site.

Only one camera will be streaming at a time, and these cameras can be selected and remotely controlled by members of the Bear Center or PixController, Inc. Engineers. The camera system is also equipped with custom electronics which will monitor the systems battery supply. Daily emails are sent to the engineers with systems status information in order that we can keep the stream running smoothly throughout the project.

Good evening all!

Whew, just got in from another day at Irvine, changed, took care of critters and we are off to dinner at friends Dave and Wendy and Billy. Should be home by 10. Not really crazy about being out at all tonight (geez, I am such a GEEZER!) but we missed Christmas so we are going.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year's Eve and please be safe!! Love you guys! Will try to do some catching up on the blog tomorrow. I may check back in once home tonight!

hedgie said...

Enjoy your evening out, Lynne! You deserve it. Be safe! Happy New Year.

Oh, no---it was a medical helicopter. Thank goodness, victims were not in the chopper----it landed safely.

Thanks, Lolly----I DID read that---but thinks it's beenn a few days ago! That clarifies it for this poor brain!

Judie said...

Just a quick visit as I wanted to check emails.

I'm Irish descent but never heard of the cabbage/dime tradition.

My family always followed the Southern tradition of pork and Black Eyed peas for a year of good luck. Some have Hoppin John. I use smoked ham hock, onion, tobasco, a tiny bit of sugar. I plan to eat a whole mess of peas after recent events.

Darth will master yet another culinary delight!

So happy to have the Lily cam back. Very anxious for the eagle cam to return but am so appreciative of all the hard work that goes into making it possible.

Lolly said...

Hi Judie! Never heard of the dime and cabbage either. My family never followed any traditions and Jack and I have continued that tradition. LOL We just eat any ol' good food with wine.

hedgie said...

Turtle Bay egg cup looks well defined, doesn't it, Paula?

Like that bit of trivia on their page:

The human body grows 40 yards of hair every 24 hours.

I think a lot of people can prove that isn't true!!!

hedgie said...

Judie, I hadn't heard of the dime, either, until just a few years ago!
Maybe it's more of an Appalachian tradition than an Ireland tradition! You know--the A's were settled mostly by ScotsIrish. But don't remember my Dad ever mentioning the dime---and his parents were Irish/English mountain people---closer to the Smokies but they are subrange of the A's....

hedgie said...

Judie, I think you are going to have to hire Darth out! Chez Darth Will Travel!!! Bet he does another excellent job for you!

NCSuzan said...

Happy New Year's Eve! Hope everyone has a very safe, healthy and prosperous 2011.

Had a huge injured bird in our street today. Looked like a broken wing at the least. He was as big as a juvie eagle, black, black straight beak and feathers. He eventually7 hopped around another house. I found a rehabber in Durham and called them. They wanted me to catch the bird, put a box on top of him so he would not get away and send them pictures of the bird. She told me that they were not fully staffed and that they had no one who could catch a bird. And to drive two hours and not catch the bird would be a waste of time. It tears me up that this animal is suffering. He evidently has wandered to a safe place because we could not find him. Just had to vent. Why does things happen on a friday and a holiday? And you would think there would be some other clinic closer to a capitol city. Nope, this is the only one.

hedgie said...

Oh, Suzan, that is sad. You are right-----things like this always happen when the least help is available. Poor bird.

Lolly said...

That stinks, Suzan! Wonder where the bird went. Maybe we can hope he flew away.

Lolly said...

Just saw bear eyes glowing in the dark. Cool! So happy to be back watching Lily.

NCSuzan said...

Thank you for your concern. His wing looked pretty bad. We are surrounded by woods and maybe he went there. He could hop fairly fast. By the time I called the rehabber and got out the camera he was gone. Just sad.

NatureNut said...

Oh, Suzan! So sorry about the bird. Wonder if it's a vulture or large crow?

Put on Lily cam---how neat--they have a night light!!No motion, just snoozing away.
Finished my vaking, & black-eyed peas are in the fridge. We just started having them a few years ago, as someone mentioned they are good luck. Never had them growing up.Will be cooking early tomorrow as Fubby got a 7.4 lb. rib roast!!Will have mashed potatoes, fresh asparagus, etc.

Lolly said...

Yes, it is very sad. You did what you could do.

It was a nice way to end this day, this year, and of course, seeing Wanda, Gene, GG, and Butterfly Mama Karla was grand as well.
AND, I came home with two soup kitchen ham sandwiches lovingly made by the First Mate ☺
that will be MY New Year's snack tonight.

My mother was from Ohio until her mother died when she was very young. She came to live with relatives in WV.

I do not know of Irish traditions, it was probably more inherent superstition and THAT I am not. But keeping the "peace"... I do.

I am not too sure that corned beef is Irish either. ?

There a #51 on the WE nest.

The bear is sleeping still.

hedgie said...

LOL, BEagle....seek and ye shall find--anything on the net!
The History of Corned Beef:
Why do they Call it "Corned" Beef?

The term “Corned” comes from putting meat in a large crock and covering
it with large rock-salt kernels of salt that were refered to as “corns of salt”
This preserved the meat. The term Corned has been in the Oxford English Dictionary
as early as 888 AD.

Irish Were the First Exporters of Corned Beef
Irish were the biggest exporters of Corned Beef till 1825.
The English were serving corned beef but also the Irish. In this day and age
corned beef and cabbage is not very Irish, but corned beef is. The area of Cork, Ireland was a great producer of Corned Beef in the 1600’s until 1825. It was their chief export and sent all over the world, mostly in cans. The British army sustained on cans of Cork’s corned beef during the Napoleonic wars.

A surprise visit from Margy was a great way to spend New Year's Eve. GG was so happy to see her...hugged her and said "where on earth have you been?" We all love when she stops by, and it has been a long while. This is a busy time for everyone (from Halloween to Thanksgiving and then Christmas).
Denise and Brandon were party goers tonight, so we did miss them:(
Jayden was very tired tonight and not as playful as he usually is, but after 2 weeks, it was great to see him. I have some video if I can find the time to work with it. Maybe next year:)

LYNN, I did as you suggested, rebooted and keyboard is working like new...Thank You!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL...LOVE TO YOU ALL♥

Lolly said...

Yeah, that is your story, Wanda. We all know you were looped when you typed that interesting post. LOL Love you!

How great it was for Margy to stop by. She posted after she had been there. It made her day!

Love GG's greeting to Margy.

Jack and I have had two courses of tonights menu. Two more to go! Having different wines with each course. Thanks to Michael. (They are little bottles!)

Is this a split-o-la?

Yes, I had to toss it around because I have been at my position for 10 years.

It will be a Happy New Year. Thanks for your prayers and congrats too.

Lily's collar does look a little doggie! : )

BEagle said...

SPLIT?

BEagle said...

paula eagleholic said...

Beagle split will come at 400 comments

wvgal_dana said...

BEagle what kind of position? I miss what it is?

I fell asleep on counch with Little Man and I have my alarm set for before MN.

wvgal_dana said...

Daughter is getting -4° tonight and snow.

hedgie said...

Paula, I grrrowl a lot and I yelp when appropriate.....and now also using a high pitched repetitive noise to distract her (compliments of British trainer Victoria Stilwell---on Animal Planet!).
As with any hard-headed kid, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't!

Yep---our Suzanne!!! I know----she must absolutely get hooked up when she retires!!!

BEagle said...

Oh I see! 378 is still a distance from the split. Okay.

Thanks

Lolly said...

We just finished our dinner. Yum! Just saw Lily scratch. She does seem restless.

Sounds like a great time tonight, Paula. No babysitting for us. Laurel, Joey and the boys are watching movies. Boys have bathed but are trying to stay up til midnight.

Also, at midnight, Joey is calling and trying to get a house in Colorado for us to use next Thanksgiving. The house is owned by their church. Reservations start at midnight. We want it for the week of Thanksgiving. Room for all of us and have dinner brought in. I go for that! Michael and Ashley are to be with us next Thanksgiving. Room for more family, too!

BEagle said...

Dana, the position is pretty much doing what I do now, it's going up a couple levels and making more money and holds a little more responsibility.
How's that for someone who can't figure out holidays or splits?

: D

BEagle said...

I think Lily has got the itchies. She's scratching.

Mema Jo said...

Is anyone else yawning...?

Maybe some ice cream would help
I just had hot chocolate..

Almost there..........

hedgie said...

She's probably got fleas, BEagle!!! Bet that's why bears scratch against tree trunks so much!!! Thought I saw a few flakes of snow there, too, a little while ago.

Megan noted on FB...shooting had already started near her. It started here, along with firecrackers, at 10. People are so crazy.

Wow----mid-to-upper 50's tomorrow!!
I can handle that! Need to move some wood before the rain starts....easier when it's not so cold or windy!!!

BEagle said...

What in the world is Lily swatting at?
She keeps batting at something out there.

My eyes are droopy.
