Back from the Dr.

Hope Jo Ellen has a great reunion and Lynnellen has fun shopping today! Very cool that your friend is adopting the mare and foal!

Dana, my hummers are still here and very active today, too! I treat each viewing as the last, as it could very well be.

BEagle, so glad you are going to Dr! Hope it ISN'T shingles!

Too beautiful a day for Margy and Paula to have to be stuck indooors working :(

And poor Judie, not getting to pull any weeds today. How sad. LOL!

Shirley, that sure was a rude awakening from the weather alarm! SO cool about the tickets from Freecycle! I just go a fairly new toaster broiler convection oven...mentioned earlier I have no idea how to use it! But I'm figuring it out. Also got a really nice hummingbird feeder, one of those cat emery board scratcher things As Seen On TV....lady said she took out of box, sat on floor, cats ran from it and never went near it again! Also got a glider rocker in fairly good shape...always wanted one! And I have found new homes for some of my stuff too!

Well, heading out shortly, friend Billy's 13th B'day cookout this afternoon. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Lynne2, hi. Are the outcomes fatal for the squirrels? I would guess so but am hoping not.

Need assistance. Was out back about two weeks ago and noticed a bush/shrub that had long reddish/magenta flexible limbs with clusters of white flowers in a sort of cone shape cluster. Flowers have now turned to small round berries which have a dark red juice but no pit inside. Juice stains. Wild cherry? Wild black cherry? Tried online but couldn't tell from pictures.

The best the Dr. could tell is that it's shingles.

If so I am too late for treatment but gave me pills, cortisone.

From pictures I saw on the web, this is a very, very, very mild case of it.
AND I have no pain with it.

Judie said...

Yep, BEagle, you've got shingles. Itching and pain, in addition to the blisters, are typical. Just like with chicken pox (which is the virus gone dormant after childhood exposure, called herpes zoster), do not mess with scabs -- scars will result.

Okay, I went back into the yard. The berries have a magenta colored juice which has a bitter taste and a tiny soft seed not a pit. Looked some more online and wonder if it is chokecherry? Most of the berries have disappeared as in critters have had a feast.

Judie, I have some of those in my yard too, inbetween my fence and neighbors fence. They are tall, like 5 foot or so.

Heading out in a few to watch the grandkids, will be back home late.

Have a good evening, everyone!

paula eagleholic said...

Sorry about the shingles, BEagle, but glad it's a mild case.

BEagle said...

Thanks for prayers and empathy.
It's just about a 3 inch patch.

It does not hurt.

I just want to scratch occasionally.

Good afternoon!
BEagle, unfortunately the pain of shingles often comes AFTER the lesions have healed and can last for months sometimes. Since it IS a mild case, hope that will not be the case.

Judie, chokeberries sounds like a real possibility. Used to have them at my first house here.
The BIRDS are usually the only ones to partake....and then leave lovely stain messes wherever they "go"!

Here is an interesting article about China and Pandas:

Fate of the Pandas

The squirrel "ailment" is a bit worrisome, isn't it? Have not noticed any such problem with mine.

hedgie said...

Where did everyone go?? Out having fun, I hope.

Just finished cleaning up from dinner---ribs on the grill and tomatoes. Very good.

Hi Lynn

I was perched at the computer
both eagles made a very brief visit, like they KNOW we are waiting to see them
in at 719 pm and out by 0722 pm or so...

Hello everyone
Hope today has been a good day....
sorry BEagle you have the discomfort but things will work out okay for you

hedgie said...

No nest action that I saw. Too webby now to keep watching. Amazing how quickly the days are shortening.

magpie said...

sounds like you folks had some fun with Eagle Watching this morning, must check pictures soon !

magpie said...

when they arrived this evening, there was a little clunking time then both just floated onto the nest within seconds of each other...

Lynne2...is there anything you don't know the answer to nature-wise?? You are a gold mine waiting to be discovered

magpie said...

we have lots and lots of very nature-smart folks on here!

Nice pictures in the album...

Dana,
especially like your photo this morning with the time 8:39:38

Hi Margy, nice to have you drop by during regular evening business hours. Please have a nice late evening. Any time planned with James?

BEagle, guess I wasn't as empathetic as I should have been. I apologize. I had a moderate case and it is miserable. I was a student at the time and had some very difficult days. Have since gotten a "shingles" vaccine shot. You might consider that.

No Lynn. I am Not out having fun. Prepared dinner, ate dinner, cleaned up after dinner, now about to do after dinner nap. lol I think we need to send a search party for Jo. Is she still picnic-ing?

Paula and Lynn, I told Darth to NOT dig up what I think is a chokeberry shrub. I hope it will winter over and I can transplant it to a better location. Found a picture online that seems very much like what I have. According to what I could find, it provides food for the critters, including bears. I think one of the Lily/Hope updates said they were eating chokeberries. So, if it stays in the yard, maybe Lily and Hope will come to visit -- maybe they will bring the shiny green garland -- in my dreams.

Eyes heavy so going to try to watch some t.v. Will return later.

magpie said...

Hey there Judie, nice to see you too !

Gee, I am so sorry that Darth did NOT feel ike pulling weeds today

sure was a beautiful day !

We had a few folks who thought they could sneakily do some outside burning....too bad, fires got away from them and became brush fires! that's called a violation.

We have started getting tongue-tied telling people that the Burn Ban is still on..
lady co-worker told a caller that there is a Burn on Banning, and today, same gal told a caller that
there is a Brush Ban....

magpie said...

lady I work with had Shingles a few years ago...
she was absolutely miserable and in a great deal of pain....

hope BEagle that you got your case "arrested" early enough to avoid all that

Well, time for me to do a little work around the house....like clear a spot on the bed for some reading, OR, plunk in front of the TV for a little while

Be back soon...will be anxious to hear the Mema Jo report too

xo

Hi Margy and Judie. Was just talking to Christie. She's trying to get ready for her 2 week trip to MN tomorrow. I'll tell her to watch out for the garland, etc., since I have doubts that it or the bears will head for your place, Judie!!! They like that cold weather!!! Hoping that we have a long time to wait for that!

hedgie said...

You are so right, Margy---we are so fortunate to have so many people with so much varied knowledge! We are a real olio of brainpower!
Carolyn was saying that it was getting tongue-twisting yesterday telling people that the burn ban was in effect until the Gov. rescinds it....repeat....repeat!
There are so many more, tho', who don't even call to ask....just do it---argh.

magpie said...

Christie is really racking up the travel miles!

Is she liking things so far Lynn?

hedgie said...

Margy...late last night I was looking at what nightsky I could see...the moon was low in the SW sky,, but high in the SE was a VERY bright something. Any idea what it was?

magpie said...

maybe Jupiter....what time Hedgie?

Jupiter is as bright in the East as Venus has been in the West...

if "below" Orion, it would be Cirius...THE brightest star

hedgie said...

She is putting in lots of hours, Margy. Getting acclimated, but admits to feeling dumb when she's with the engineers. I told her that it will all get better after she has the training that the next two weeks will provide. She has no trepidation about traveling for that, but is hoping that when things settle down into the routine when she will be on her own, that she won't have so much daily distance travel. She went from Warrenton,VA to Baltimore one day this week---a 10 hr. day. One day she was in Georgetown for 8 hrs.
