Update on Lily..no new word on Hope:

June 3, 2010 - 12:12 PM CDT
Today Lily is roaming in a very remote area far outside her usual territory. We wonder what she's up to. We're thankful for the GPS technology that allows us to track her. It would be difficult to locate her via the usual telemetry methods unless we flew. -- SM

Students, I meant students. They will be our Freshmens in the Fall.

Happy Birthday Jess!!!!

About seeing bears in yards. I have lots of bird feeders in my yard. Two years ago I got up in the morning, looked out the window only to find one of my feeders, which was on a strong metal pole was bent right in half. Called Game Warden. He said it was a bear that bent it to get the seeds. He said to stop feeding the birds for awhile. I couldn't do that, birds were having their babies and counted on the seeds. Never saw the bear. I would of stopped if it came back again. It was just one passing through.

Judie and Shirley, Some of these students are so arrogant. I am in the Plato Lab so I don't have to grade papers. The computer does it all. I just have to print them out. Can't blame me, it's all in their hands. I am very lucky.

Yesterday, a student in Building Trades didn't finish his final assignment. He wrote his research paper with me, but didn't finish the building end of final. Teacher gave him 2 extra days. Still not finished. Teacher failed him. Student got angry at teacher. Said he wanted to punch the teacher and 3 other students in that class. For safety reasons they sent him down with me for the rest of the day to keep him out of trouble. He probably wouldn't act on his words but the fact that he said it was a concern. I usually can control him. It was his last day. When he left I felt sad. He shouldn't of made a threat He is very smart, but his home life is not good. I have gotten to know him and he is such a broken child. Told him I didn't wanted to read about him in the newspaper unless it was a success story.

Glo, I hope your knee gets better.

Hope, Oh! Little Hope. My heart keeps breaking. I hope they find her and can keep her fed. Tears.

Opps, Sorry everyone. I think I just wrote a book. So much to say. LOL

Just a quick visit.

Ragdoll, forgot about the fires in Canada. Double yippee! Any evidence the grizzlies leave will go up in smoke! Think I might be nervous if a threatening student were sent to me for safe keeping.

Palmer resting up near noonish.

Anxious to hear from Lolly about Annie, Sissy's tush, Lynne's mutts, Wanda's GG, and all others.

Rapid extradition for Van Der Sloot. Holloway's family lives about 15 minutes from us. Yep, he should have a nice time in jail -- he's very attractive, ya know.

Hi Jo, Mits, and Ceil.

Back to work.

hedgie said...

The gal that Van Der Sloot killed in Peru cames from an important family. That will make a conviction more liely, say the pundits. The important man should sue Aruba for not having locked the jerk up 5 yrs. ago. It was EXACTLY five yrs. to the day since Natalie disappeared......know what I think? He timed it to coincide so as to thumb his nose at Aruban officials and the world. JMHO.

Mits said...

I think you are right, Lynn:(

hedgie said...

Judie, Natalie's father? or mother?

hedgie said...

Never heard that, either way. Though they all lived in AL. Seems to me I had heard that her mom and step-father had broken up a couple of years ago....wonder if they divorced?

NatureNut said...

Checked Palmer awhile ago & those giant wings flapped her across the nest w/an "edgy" landing! Be still, my heart!

Gotta get back out w/flowers before storms?

hedgie said...

Thunder is getting close. Shutting done now. Will be back after storms pass...as long as power stays up! Be safe!

PA Nana said...

Good afternoon everyone. Waiting for the storm(s) to start. I just said yesterday that I had the place to myself and here I am, alone. Jim got the laundry room cleared of water the night of the storms here (3-6 in. in 3 hrs.)and we're under a severe storm watch again.

We have a sixteener? Happy, happy Jessica. What an age.

Lynne2, glad you gave your critters a pardon.

To all teachers - God bless you!!
I could never do what you do and wouldn't want to try. Was hard enough "raising" 4 children without a manual.

Lolly, hope Annie is better.

Is Hope going to be another Koo? This is really hard to watch but I can't stop. St. Anthony, something been lost and can't be found, we need a miracle.

Didn't feel the earthquake here. Reports say it more towards the center of the state. Will have to watch the news tonight; if we have power.

Sissy, hope you're sitting pretty today.

Wanda, hope GG is well. You're a great daughter.

Bears? We used to vacation in Centre county, PA, and saw black bears often. Then, I was not so excited to see them, now I can't get enough of Hope between the tears.

Enough, I'm tearing up just thinking about her.

Hi,

Raining like crazy here. Power flickered off once. (I'm at school.)

Must run off my exam for the seniors and get ready for a tea party tomorrow.

stronghunter said...

Kid I was writing about previously--when he took his week off, he said he would read a book and summarize each chapter while he was out. I mentioned it when he returned, and he said he had a little more to do. Today, I gave him written notice that I expect all of the summaries by Monday, and there will be a test. He was mighty insulted and had a fit because nobody else had to do all of that. Nope, but they did other things while he was taking a week off.

After he calmed down, I did recruit him to help me run the movie for class. Yes, I do keep trying to win them over.

Now I have to put together a test for one student.

It is what we call differentiation--taking care of the needs of an individual student. Smart kids need to be challenged, and ones who are smarty-pants kids in addition need to have their comeuppance.

stronghunter said...

About ready to venture out. Do not want to catch up with the storm.

glad test are normal so far Lolly, do you know if the T4 was over 2.5? The free T4 tests (in most labs) are only run twice a week depending on the lab it may be a few days. How is she acting today?

Well now, looks like a big storm heading right at me. Better unplug for a while.

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Gang,

Dropping in quickly to say hello. Got the blood tests done in short order this morning. Got the gal in the lab who's the best ever at drawing blood! Didn't feel a thing, and no bruise or bleeding when she was done. Doggone, she's good! Got a good parking place, too!

Have been trying to reach the SSA on the phone since I got home. They auto-deposited the first installment of my retirement benefits today, and it's $155 more than their estimate was! Has me worried that somebody miscalculated, so want to talk to a human and make sure it's right.
Also need to find out whether I need for them to take taxes out, too. I think it may be necessary.

Ms Bookworm said...

Hope Margy has an uneventful evening at work!

Gosh, all kinds of weather going on back east! And a PA earthquake!
Know they happen there once in a while, but not very often. Good to hear it was downgraded in intensity.

Glad Palmer is OK--hope the rains go away soon.

hedgie said...

Hi again. That storm was a lot of noise for nothin'! Hardly enough rain out of it to matter. Everything is already dried up.
Hope everyone else fared well: rain where you needed it, just a little where you don't.

hedgie said...

Andy, if you are always to the good on taxes, you are probably okay without a deduction. Only a portion of SS is taxable. On the other hand, if you can spare it each month, then you get a nice little refund come spring. I get 10% taken out. But you do have to tell them...it's not automatic.
Hope your bloodwork is all A-OK.

Judie.......psyc stuff as in psychopath!!!

Lolly, so far so good, I guess with Annie. Hope the final test is useful in finding out what is wrong.

It is spooky about the death being 5 years exactly to the date that Ms Holloway went missing. I guess the good Lord gave him that much time to make amends and when he didn't he is now caught Hook Line and Sinker
What a shame for another murder to be the reason.

Hey Jim, I would send you a reminder to open up the blog but you'd have to open the blog to see it. lol

Yes, Lynn, psychopath. Without details, mere speculation but: The date is significant psychologically and killing on an anniversary date may indicate a "signature" or calling card, as may be the similarity of locating a victim (bar) and similarity of somewhat exotic location. It may also indicate the time to relive and fantasize about the first murder (psychological cooling off period) had ended and the need to kill again was compelling. The timing may also indicate a need to taunt police -- here I am and you can't find me -- cops are stupid and I am oh so clever. He also upped the ante by selecting a victim from a prominent family -- a greater psychological thrill. Would love to know the details of the crime scene. Wish my friend at Interpol could tell me.

Oooo, Lolly. I think you're in lots of Lolly trouble. Let us know who wins and give Annie many extra hugs.

Andy, glad you had a good day.

stronghunter said...

Have been somewhat following the murder story. I am pretty much maxed out right now, though.

One of our librarians said they were "beared" the other night. Bird feeder pole bent and a pretty good mess made. He said they have some feeders hung too high for the bears to get to, though. I don't know how they fill them. I will have to ask.

hedgie said...

Good question, Shirley!!
Hope you can relax and enjoy your tea party!!!

Judie said...

Lolly, it was so nice of you to let the boys win! Nice grandma!

The Van Der Sloot case is going to get lots of press so details will be plentiful -- just have to short facts from speculative ratings boosters. The additional charge for extortion is likely a legal tactic to try to ensure a conviction of some crime that will result in serious prison time -- like an insurance policy.

No news of Hope but hope the trail cameras will be the solution to locating her.

Can't see Palmer -- Boris has been busy.

Going back to 48 hours. BBL to say goodnight.

stronghunter said...

I think the kids are looking forward to it. It's a graded activity for them. They are required to dress appropriately, behave appropriately, and bring food. If they prepare the food and bring a recipe, they get an A+. They get an A for doing everything else and bringing packaged food. It is a tradition at our school for the honors English 12 classes.

Last year, I brought treats for the other classes, and got really amused at one of the boys who wanted to eat all of the strawberry dip because it was so good. I think it would have made him sick.

Hello...
Just finished reading the day's blog comments.
Diann is not the only one with a flooded basement. I watered GG's garden and flower beds yesterday, and apparently, the water leaked into the basement and covered about 3/4 of the floor. Gene will go tomorrow morning and use the shop vac to clear it out.
Speaking of GG, her doctor said wound is slowly healing and there are no signs of infection. She needs to go back next week. Doc fussed at her for pulling weeds (he visits his in-laws who lives next door and saw her!) Says she needs to elevate leg as much as possible for quicker healing

Shirley, you really do have "A TEACHER'S HEART"...you are so caring about your students! Love your stories, along with Judie's. You two are great:)

Lolly, maybe Annie has become incontinent and is ashamed of herself and that is why she hides and is acting so peculiar. Hope she gets straightened out soon.

Lynn, I was at GG's when it rained and we got a really nice amount of rain there and looks like a nice rain here at my house. It's wet under the trees, which means we got a decent rain.

I'm so excited about our Nest Visit on the 12th. 22 momsters and dadsters are coming...PARTY!!

She was mad. Saw her sitting there favoring her front right paw. She doesn't want to walk because she does not want to put her paw down.

Heading to bed. Tried to do a little catching up on fb and our blog. But to give you all a smile I have a little Jacob story,

After dinner we went out and played a game of Bocce on the front lawn. After we came in, Jacob and I were talking. He said very seriously and very proudly, "I did my very first really good burp tonight after dinner." Oh,mercy me! These boys are something else! Wait til Uncle Michael hears that story. He will be so proud! ☺ Nite all!

Good Morning Eagle Family. It's real quite here this AM. I hope all is fine with everybody. Only have a minute. (at work).

Hedgie, On the Canada fires. 50 fires are burning. Out of the 50 fires, 8 classified as out of control. They started around May 26th due to dry conditions and ignited by thunderstorms/lighting. So far it has taken 150000 acres.

Lolly, Annie may have an abscess that is just not surface yet. My Zackie had one because of a blocked anal gland. Had it for sometime before it broke. I never picked up on it and I am very attentive with my babies. I do pray they find out what is going on with her.

put storm pictures up from Thursday in the Momsters album....
Palmer was so twitchy, then laid down, then wingersized a lot after the rain

Wanda, Glad that GG is on the upside. She and you have had a rough time.

I know what it's like to have a wet basement. With the flooding this winter/spring I got hammered. If you were watering her flower, how did the water get into the basement?

Magpie, That was some long hours you had to work. Hope they give you overtime.

Said the word HOPE. Has there been any updated news on Hope? I am at school. Not allowed to go on facebook.

This was posted on FB six minutes ago..........

Lily the Black Bear June 4th, 2010 (8:38 AM CDT) Hope is alive and looking good! More details later in the update - SM

It was a long shift and rather busy Ragdoll, cops took a few bites out of drug crime...and one house fire :(

time to hit the sack, but I did put some Megan Flowers Pictures on Magpie's Roost Link plus my tomato plant and a picture of James
and got some new wildflower pics on West Virginia Wildflowers link, finally

Loon update....

OK!!! How much more drama can we stand!??!!?

I am just writing a post about there being 3 huge white pelicans swimming near the nest and I look up at the tv just after the loon has gotten off the nest and SEE ONLY ONE EGG!!!

What happened?!?!

I went down to the lake with the binoculars. Just then BOTH loons came flying toward the nest from out in the lake. They landed nearby.

That is when I saw it.

A small dark spot in the water! Could it be the egg FLOATING?!?!?

I could not think of going back out to the nest! I did not want to go back out. But if it was the egg, how could I not?!?!

I tried to make my way out as quietly and quickly as possible.

The loons watched!

They swam close to the nest.

But they did not seem excited. They did not call.

When I got out there, sure enough! It was the egg!!

I quickly scooped it up. Now the loons both started diving!

One swam underwater very close to my legs! I feared a stab but he went by me.

I hurriedly went over to the nest and placed it by the other egg and backed away and started my retreat.

It was then that one of the loons did the penguin dance three times.

They are still near the nest. Hopefully one will get back up soon!

But how much damage was done to the egg by being in the water?

It will be interesting to see how the egg ended up in the water if there is any video of it! Did it get kicked out? I have never seen that happen before, although I know it happens.

Drama! Drama! Drama!

hope it's a great Friday for everyone

let's see, the Captain is probably assembling fishing tackle, sunscreen, bug repellent, camera, chow, and hopes for a good weather week-end ☺

Mits said...

so that answers the question someone had the other day.....loon eggs float..also over 1200 people watching

Lolly said...

OMG!!! It looked like one of the eggs could roll into the water at any time!!! We discussed whether it would float or not! Now we know. Yes, this is just too much drama! Yea, for Larry saving the egg.

Oh here is a picture of a wild orange butterfly weed taken this morning near the office

Good Night

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Was just checking to see if anybody had posted the news on Hope. I see Lolly did! I am so glad to hear that! Good morning everybody.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I am back in Bedford. Get to see my boy at the lake tomorrow. So excited about that.

magpie said...

just read back and saw the Loon report Mits, thanks, cause I don't have time to check it myself! ☺

Lolly said...

Haven't even said "Good Morning!" Got on and the action started...fast!

Joseph let Annie outside. Found her bedded down in the same place under a shrub. Got her, petted her, and brought her in. She has gone into the bedroom. She is eating a little, using her cat box as normal....but acting strange. She walks very gently and cautiously.

Ragdoll said...

Lolly, thank you for the update on Hope. THERE I HOPE!!!

WOW, I hope the loon egg will be okay.

I can't get the our live cam up. I just get the As the World Turns. Been that way all morning. BOO! Hiss!!

Lolly said...

Not getting our cam. Have black and the cicle thingy. Not good!

FuzzleMT said...

WHERE IS PALMER?

FuzzleMT said...

OH wait - is that her about 12:00 VERY close to the branch?

Lolly said...

Guess it is back to the Loon cam! Both eggs in view! Have you been reading Larry's blog and his story of the Loon rescue. He is such a great writer, but do not like waiting till tomorrow to finish reading the story. LOL

FuzzleMT said...

Oh! I thought the nest was empty - she IS there - hard to tell on the "still cam."

Ragdoll said...

Lolly, Please call your vet. Sometimes when a cat walks gently, almost in slow motion they could be crystals in her urine. It backs up and gets into the blood stream. Very serious. Called my vet for my Myer, (years ago) Told me to get there ASAP. I also volunteered at my vet and saw this quite often. Please call.

Ragdoll said...

Palmer is a "TREE HUGGER". LOL

Mema Jo said...

Hello All on this dramatic Friday!
I guess we'll call it Frantic Friday!

Can't get over the loon egg being saved by Larry
And can't get over Hope being fed by Dr Rogers.. Wonder if their trail cams will have a video...

Hello FuzzleMA Palmer is in the stage of giving us heart failure!

Mema Jo said...

Talk about heart failure
Just tried to spot Palmer.....
She is making like a tree trunk...
Can you find her at first glance??

Ragdoll said...

Lolly, I don't mean to scare you with the info I have been given you. I don't want to sound like a know it all. I love kitties (any animal) and have alot of experience through the years with my Kitties. If I am over stepping my boundries. Please lets me know. So sorry if I have. (smile)

FuzzleMT said...

I know, huh? She's too much. Looks like she is trying to climb the branch or stretch a leg! Silly girl.

When is Mom or Dad Loon going to get on those eggs. Have to keep them warm. Aren't they due to hatch any day? I hope the one that went in the drink will be okay.

stronghunter said...

Hi,

My block two kids are enjoying socializing and signing yearbooks after the tea party. They are all dressed up in their Sunday best and look very nice.

I feel guilty, so I bought lemonade and cookies for my third block to enjoy while they take their exams. It would be hard to hide the evidence that the other class had a party.

Just saw that there was a protest at the National Spelling Bee, for heaven's sake! It seems that they are protesting the spellings of some words. Odd.

Mema Jo said...

Palmer Please just hang out at the nest for 9 more days!

stronghunter said...

Good to know that Hope is getting food. I can't get on Facebook right now.

Ragdoll said...

Mema Jo, Thank you for the info. I wish I could she her. I have to wait until I am home. Facebook and School Systems don't get along. Is it a good shot.

FuzzleMA, I am from Southern Maine.

Mema Jo said...

Shirley - you are just great! Enjoy the
rest of your day with the students!

Ragdoll said...

Shirley, Your the Best Teacher. It's nice to have some FUN with students after all the hard work you have put into them. Have a wonderful time.

Good Morning Jim.

Good morning, Jo, Ragdoll.

Has there been any follow up on the the "Hope" or the loon egg thing??

How long was the egg in the water and has the pair been setting on it since??

That's a peculiar happening. First time I've heard of it.

Yes, the live feed opened for me immediately, Mema Jo, and all the controls below screen are somewhat different this A.M.

....Sound still hums though. Hahaha.

Mema Jo said...

Jim - no new news other than Larry's update on seeing the egg in the water.

Hi T-Bird Not sure about the pool....... what do you think? I am hoping she is still there on the 12th

movin said...

I think Palmer's about ready to fledge. Just winged it from one end of the nest to the other.

Anyone know exactly how old she is??

I think Heidi went somewhat earlier last year than the eaglets from our nest go when we have 2-3 to feed.

Mema Jo said...

Jim Palmer will be 11 weeks old this Saturday (hatched on 3/20)

T-Bird Palmer could do you the honor of first flight on your b-day!

movin said...

I just realized that the live pic is significantly bigger when in the smaller mode today. That's what happened to the controls, I guess.

The nesting loon just waddled up and checked and rolled eggs and waddled back down............

Mema Jo said...

What a yawn from Palmer up by the tree trunk.

Okay Live feed timer still going and did not stop at 10....
I wish it would just go on and on and on..........

hedgie said...

Hello gang!
Had a nice breakfast with good fellowship with former co-workers. I was the only gal this month, so gots lots of attention!! Always good for the ego, right?
Now to get caught up here. See on FB that Hope was seen on one of the new field cams at one of the milk/berry/nut feeders they put out. Sue says she looks good. Pray that it is so!

movin said...

Has Palmer been "attacking" her food and mantling yet??

Liberty usually tries to get them into the necessary aggressive mode by the time they fledge.

I think she could fledge very soon as far as the feather growth, etc., goes. She will certainly go before the 12 week mark.

C(°Ù¿°)D

Jim

Ragdoll said...

I have the live feed too. Yes, the bottom is different.

Jim, They saw Hope. She is okay. They have a picture of her at a feeding site. Haven't seen it yet. Facebook and Schools don't get along.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Are we doing a dinner Saturday evening?

Ragdoll said...

BBL - duties call. ^..^

movin said...

Thanks, Ragdoll. Schools are not the only ones who filter out F.B. or other sites they think are either security risks or time consumers.

The place I worked at last filtered quite a few, including Ebay for awhile.

Ragdoll said...

Peek a Boo Palmer. LOL

Okay, I'm gone. For real!

movin said...

Palmer's calling for food. She's starting to sound more insistent now.

That's how Liberty makes them more aggressive ... and more willing to leave the nest. He makes them wait for the food until they dive for it aggressively and mantle.

Some of the young at PH, for example, have gotten to where they nearly take their father's leg off before he can let go of the fish.

Thought I'd say GOOD MORNING, before it is AFTERNOON. Still in my PJs. Gene is tending to GG this morning and her flooded basement.

There is just too much excitement on our wildlife cams...as if my life needs more excitement! I may need to find some nerve pills;)

I'm wondering if it is possible for Hope to be fed on a continuing basis by her two Guardian Angels until she is able to take care of herself?? No more interference, just food supplement to her natural diet.

I'm thinking the loon eggs must be infertile:(

hedgie said...

Saw the post from Larry about the egg drama...lucky that he happened to be watching/looking and saw it! Glad that mama is back on the nest.

Hoping that Hope is as good as Sue said she looked.

Shirley, enjoy your fun day!!

Deb, had no idea that the fires were so bad----can't believe there hasn't been more news coverage here about it. So awful.

Jim and Jo---there does seem to be something a little different about the viewbox, but only thng I can put my finger on is no border around the controls. ??? Palmer is really eyeballing the cam lens!!

Judie said...

Hopeful news of Hope. Eager for a more detailed update.

Missed a bunch of comments this morning. Happy everyone seems to be doing well.

Off to see if I can see Palmer. Had as the circle turns this a.m.

stronghunter said...

Second block helped me clean up and put the desks back in rows. (They were in groups.) I sent my third block to first lunch so they won't have lunch in the middle of an exam.

Funny how kids show up on days they don't have to be here. They get exempted from an exam, then show up anyway.

I think the seniors have already been told that they need a visitor pass to come after they have graduated! We do have classes for a few days after graduation, but for underclass students only. They do not move graduation when we have to add time to make up for snow days. It would be too complicated.

Mema Jo said...

WOW Live feed is on 40+ minutes & hasn't stopped yet.......

hedgie said...

Margy, know you're asleep---or at least hope you are!! But what a terribly long shift you put in---whew!!

Lolly, how does Annie act if you try to palpate her foot/leg?? She might have a foreign body that is abcessing....just a thought. Poor kittie.

Shar---did you have any luck selling the house? Know you'll be hugging that big boy soon!!

Costume Lady said...

I cannot view the photos of the osprey chicks that Chrissy sends in the Momsters Mail. Could one of you email me one or two? Dana used to send the ones that she thought I'd enjoy, because she knew I couldn't view them from Momster Mail. Really miss her doing that:(

hedgie said...

Shar---no dinner this time. We have a big enough lunch planned that no one will be hungry for din-din. Also gives folks a chance to get home before dark! Saves money, too!!!

hedgie said...

FuzzleMA---please tell this feeble brain once again what your real name is and the other screenname you are sometimes using. Promise I will write it down this time!!
Yep, Palmer gives me heart failure on many occasions when she is hard to see!!!
